Abstract Background Cereal/legume intercropping can enhance crop productivity and improve soil health in dryland farming. However, little is known about soil biological health under maize/peanut intercropping. The aim of this study was to assess soil biological health based on nematode communities in a maize/peanut intercropping system. Methods We conducted a field experiment with different planting patterns, including monoculture maize (M), monoculture peanut (P), and maize intercropped with peanut (IM, intercropped maize; IP, intercropped peanut) to determine the influence on soil biological health. We measured soil physicochemical properties and nematode communities, and employed exploratory factor analysis combined with cumulative normal distribution curve scoring to identify potential soil biological health traits. Results The intercropped maize gave the highest plant parasitic nematode abundance, trophic diversity index, evenness index, and structure index. The monoculture peanut gave the highest enrichment index and least plant parasitic nematode abundance, trophic diversity index, Shannon diversity index, evenness index, structure index, and channel index. We identified four soil biological health traits, including basic nutrients and biodiversity, food web complexity, slow energy channel, and fast energy channel, mainly represented by soil ammonium nitrogen and Shannon diversity index, structural index and omnivore-predator nematode abundance, fungivorous nematode abundance and plant parasitic nematode abundance, microbial biomass carbon and bacterivorous nematode abundance, respectively. The intercropping systems improved the comprehensive score of soil biological health, especially maize intercropping soil. Intercropping maize and intercropping peanut significantly improved oil biological health traits representing the food web complexity compared with the corresponding monoculture soils. Conclusions Our results indicate that soil nematode and physicochemical indicators reflect different soil biological health traits. Among those traits, the improvement of basic nutrients and biodiversity and the complexity of the food web were the main reasons for improving soil biological health through the intercropping system.

Abstract Objective Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a disease with medical, psychological and reproductive implications, but its common therapies have limited efficacy and a likelihood of complications. This study delves into the therapeutic role of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (hUC-MSCs-EVs) in POI mice through the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)/nuclear factor E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)/autophagy pathway. Methods hUC-MSCs were transfected with lentiviral short hairpin RNA of IGF-1 before EV extraction. Cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced POI mouse models were administrated with hUC-MSCs-EVs. Mouse ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) were induced with CTX, then treated with hUC-MSCs-EVs and ML385. Ovarian histopathological changes were observed, changes in follicle number at all levels were counted and serum sex hormones were evaluated, as well as LC3II/I and Beclin-1 expression. GCs were subject to detection of proliferation, deaths, oxidative stress, and Nrf2 nuclear translocation. Results After CTX exposure, mice showed thinner GCs layer in the ovary, reduced number of GCs and follicles at all levels, disturbed serum sex hormones, enhanced oxidative stress and autophagy, and downregulated ovarian IGF-1; whereas, hUC-MSCs-EVs upregulated IGF-1 to improve the ovarian function. hUC-MSCs-EVs carrying IGF-1 activated Nrf2/HO-1 signaling to inhibit CTX-induced excessive autophagy of GCs, but this ameliorative effect was partially weakened by inhibiting Nrf2/HO-1 signaling. hUC-MSCs-EVs inhibited excessive autophagy of GCs and improved ovarian function of CTX-induced mice through IGF-1/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. Conclusion hUC-MSCs-EVs activate the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling by carrying IGF-1, which in turn inhibits excessive autophagy and damage of GCs, thus improving ovarian function in POI mice.

Abstract Background Physical exercise is an important method for both the physical and mental health of the senior population. However, excessive exertion can lead to increased risks of falls, severe injuries, and diminished quality of life. Therefore, simple and effective methods for fatigue monitoring during exercise are highly desirable, particularly in community settings. The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of real-time detection of exercise-induced fatigue using surface Electromyogram (sEMG) features, including the kurtosis and skewness of the Probability Density Function (PDF) in the community settings to solve the issues of low sensitivity and high computational complexity of commonly used sEMG features. Methods sEMG signals from six forearm muscles were recorded during hand grip tasks at 20% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) task-to-failure contractions from 30 healthy community-dwelling elders at their respective community centers. PDF shape features of the sEMG, namely kurtosis and skewness, were computed from 25 s of non-fatigue stable phase and 25 s of fatigue data for comparison. Statistical tests were conducted to compare and test for the significance of these features. We further proposed a novel fatigue indicator, Temporal-Mean-Kurtosis (TMK) of channel-averaged kurtosis, to detect fatigue with relatively low computational complexity and adequate sensitivity in community settings. ANOVA and post-hoc analyses were performed to examine the performance of TMK. Results Statistically significant differences were found between the non-fatigue period and the fatigue period for both kurtosis and skewness, with increasing values when approaching fatigue. TMK was shown to be sensitive in detecting fatigue with respect to time with lower computational complexity than the Sample Entropy. Conclusion This study investigated PDF shape features of sEMG signals during a handgrip exercise to identify muscle fatigue in older adults in community experiments. Results revealed significant changes in kurtosis upon fatigue, indicating that PDF shape features were suitable convenient detectors of muscle fatigue in community experiments. The proposed indicator, TMK, showed potential sensitivity in tracking muscle fatigue over time in community-based settings with limited computational complexity, highlighting the promise of sEMG’s PDF features in detecting muscle fatigue among the elderly.

Abstract With the emergence of the new generation vision architecture Vmamba and the further demand for agricultural yield and efficiency, we propose an efficient and high-accuracy target detection network for automated pear picking tasks based on Vmamba, aiming to address the issue of low efficiency in current Transformer architectures. The proposed network, named SRSMamba, employs a Reward and Punishment Mechanism (RPM) to focus on important information while minimizing redundancy interference. It utilizes 3D Selective Scan (SS3D) to extend scanning dimensions and integrates global information across channel dimensions, thereby enhancing the model's robustness in complex agricultural environments and effectively adapting to the extraction of complex features in pear orchards and farmlands. Additionally, a Stacked Feature Pyramid Network (SFPN) is introduced to enhance semantic information during the feature fusion stage, particularly improving the detection capability for small targets. Experimental results show that SRSMamba has a low parameter count of 21.1 M, GFLOPs of 50.4, mAP of 72.0%, mAP50 reaching 94.8%, mAP75 at 68.1%, and FPS at 26.9. Compared with other state-of-the-art (SOTA) object detection methods, it achieves a good trade-off between model efficiency and detection accuracy.

Abstract Background Epidemiological studies show inconsistent links between hearing/vision impairment and dementia risk. Using multisource data, we investigated how single or combined sensory impairments relate to risks of all-cause and specific types of dementia. Methods We employed a triangulation approach combining three methodologies. We analyzed 90,893 UK Biobank (UKB) adults to explore single and joint effects of hearing and vision impairments on all-cause and Alzheimer’s disease (AD), vascular dementia (VD) and non-AD non-VD (NAVD). A meta-analysis of prospective studies involving 937,908 participants provided stronger evidence. Finally, we conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using genome-wide association studies from UKB (361,194 participants) and FinnGen (412,181 participants) to validate relationships between sensory impairments and dementia occurrence. Results In the UKB cohort study, compared to participants with normal hearing, those in the mild and severe hearing impairment groups had progressively and significantly higher risk of all-cause dementia (mild: HR1.52, 95%CI 1.31–1.77; severe: HR1.80, 95%CI 1.36–2.38), AD (mild: HR1.63, 95%CI 1.30–2.04; severe: HR2.18, 95%CI 1.45–3.27), VD (mild: HR1.68, 95%CI 1.19–2.37; severe: HR1.47, 95%CI 1.22–1.78), and NAVD (mild: HR1.47, 95%CI 1.22–1.78; severe: HR1.98, 95%CI 1.43–2.75). Besides, vision impairment was associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia (HR1.55, 95%CI 1.18–2.04) and NAVD (HR1.51, 95%CI 1.07–2.13). Furthermore, dual sensory impairment was associated with stepwise increased risks of all-cause and cause-specific dementia than single hearing or vision impairment. In the meta-analysis of 31 prospective cohort studies, risks of all-cause dementia and AD were elevated in participants with single hearing impairment (all-cause dementia: HR1.30, 95%CI 1.21–1.40; AD: HR1.30, 95%CI 1.21–1.40) and dual sensory impairment (all-cause dementia: HR1.63, 95%CI1.14–2.12; AD: HR 2.55, 95%CI 1.19–3.91), while single vision impairment only associated with higher risk of all-cause dementia (HR1.43, 95%CI 1.16–1.71) but not AD. Finally, the MR analysis revealed a significant association between hearing impairment and all-cause dementia (OR1.74, 95%CI 1.01–2.99), AD (OR1.56, 95%CI 1.09–2.23), and NAVD (OR1.14, 1.02–1.26), as well as vision impairment and NAVD (OR1.62, 95%CI 1.13–2.33). Conclusions Our findings showed significant associations between hearing and vision impairments and increased risks of all-cause and cause-specific dementia. Standardized hearing and vision assessment and intervention should be emphasized in dementia prevention strategies.

Abstract Ceria (CeO2) is a widely used oxide catalyst, yet the nature of its active sites remains elusive. This study combines model and powder catalyst studies to elucidate the structure-activity relationships in ceria-catalyzed CO activation and hydrogenation. Well-defined ceria clusters are synthesized on planar CeO2(111) and exhibit dynamic and tunable ranges of Ce coordination numbers, which enhance their interaction with CO. Reduced ceria clusters (e.g., Ce3O3) bind CO strongly and facilitate its dissociation, while near-stoichiometric clusters (e.g., Ce3O7) adsorb CO weakly and promote oxidation via carbonate formation. Unlike planar ceria surfaces, supported ceria clusters exhibit dynamic properties and enhanced catalytic activity, that mimic those of powder ceria catalysts. Insight from model studies provide a method to quantify active sites on powder ceria and guide further optimization of ceria catalysts for syngas conversion. This work marks a leap toward model-guided catalyst design and highlights the importance of site-specific catalysis.

Abstract Retinal neovascularization (RNV) disease is one of the leading causes of blindness, yet the molecular underpinnings of this condition are not well understood. To delve into the critical aspects of cell-mediated angiogenesis, we analyzed our previously published single-cell data. Our analysis revealed that retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells serve a crucial promotional function in angiogenesis. RPE cells were regulated by N6-methyladenosine (m6A). Next, we detected several critical m6A methylase in hypoxic ARPE-19 cells and in oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) mice, our results revealed a significant decrease in the level of methyltransferase like 3 (METTL3). METTL3 specific inhibitor STM2457 intravitreal injection or METTL3 conditional knockout mice both showed a significantly reduced neovascularization area of retina. Additionally, the angiogenesis-related abilities of human retinal endothelial cells (HRECs) were diminished after co-cultured with ARPE-19 treated with STM2457 or sh-METTL3 in vitro. Furthermore, through the integration of Methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP) sequencing and RNA sequencing, we discovered that the metabolic enzyme quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase (QPRT) was directly modified by METTL3 and recognized by the YTH N6-methyladenosine RNA binding protein C1 (YTHDC1). Moreover, after over-expressing QPRT, the angiogenic abilities of HRECs were improved through the phosphorylated phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (p-PI3K)/ phosphorylated threonine kinase (p-AKT) pathway. Collectively, our study provided a novel therapeutic target for retinal angiogenesis.

Abstract Background Pre-frailty is a window of opportunity for frailty reversal and can be enhanced by multicomponent exercise. The Lifestyle-integrated Functional Exercise (LiFE) program may be a promising alternative to overcome traditional exercise barriers. The latest advancements in mobile health (mHealth) technology have enabled individuals to retain the advantages of supervised exercise training within group settings while providing exercise programs that can be accessed and completed at home. This study aims to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and primary efficacy of the PF-Life program, which is the Lifestyle-Integrated Functional Exercise program for Pre-Frail supported by an mHealth platform. Methods Sixteen pre-frail adults aged ≥ 65 years were recruited from five community health centers in Fuzhou, China. All participants were prescribed the PF-Life program by geriatricians using the mhealth platform (web-based portal). Participants engaged in the customized exercises program following in-app video instructions and feedback on the mhealth platform (smartphone application). Physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) were registered daily through wearable devices. Study endpoints were feasibility (retention rate, compliance rate, adverse events), usability (system usability scale), acceptability (qualitative interviews), changes in physical function (timed up and go (TUG), handgrip strength (HGS), and 30-second chair rise tests), PA and SB. Results The intervention was feasible, 88% of participants adhered completely to the study protocol, and 95% had completed at least 75% of the prescribed experimental duration. Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common malignant tumor of the digestive tract in China; its incidence rates and mortality rates have been on the rise in recent years, ranking third in terms of incidence and second in mortality. Rational dietary intervention plays an important role in human health, and prevention and adjuvant treatment of CRC through dietary supplementation is the most ideal and safest way to treat the disease at present. More importantly, dietary protein is the basis of our diet and the key nutrient to maintain the normal function of the human body. Therefore, this narrative review delivered an overview of the common causes and therapeutic treatments for CRC. It emphasized the importance of dietary interventions, with a particular focus on elucidating the distinct regulatory impacts of plant proteins, animal proteins, and their mixed proteins.

Abstract To discuss the application value of Case-based Learning (CBL) combined with Bridge-In, Objective, Pre-assessment, Participatory Learning, Post-assessment, and Summary (BOPPPS) model into master students’ program of oral and maxillofacial surgery. 38 master’s students in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Y2 and Y3 from January 2022 to December 2022 are selected as the research objects. They are randomly assigned into two learning groups, namely the traditional LBL (Learn-based Learning) (19 participants) and CBL combined with BOPPPS mode (19 participants). Their theoretical knowledge was assessed after training and the modified Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX) scale was used to score their clinical thinking. At the same time, the Personal Teaching Efficiency and the Teachers’ Sense of Teaching Efficiency (TSTE) were evaluated, and students’ satisfaction with teaching outcomes was investigated. The basic theoretical knowledge, clinical case analysis and total scores of the experimental group were better than those of the control group, with statistically significant difference (P 0.05), the other four items and total scores in the experimental group were better than those in the control group, with statistically significant difference (P 0.05). CBL combined with BOPPPS teaching method can improve students’ clinical critical thinking ability and help them adapt to the clinical rhythm. It is an effective measure to ensure teaching quality and is worthy of promotion. It is worthwhile to promote the application of CBL combined with BOPPPS mode into master’s course of oral and maxillofacial surgery, which not only improve the basic theoretical knowledge and speculative thinking ability of master’s students, but also improve the teaching efficiency.

High-performance titanium alloys with good corrosion resistance are expected to be applied in marine environments. In this work, we developed a Ti20W alloy using powder metallurgy and hot extrusion, which combined remarkable mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance. The Ti20W alloys exhibited ultrahigh strength (>1400 MPa) and good ductility (>7%), and the specific yield strength was comparable to the common high-strength Ti alloys. The ultrahigh-strength Ti20W alloys had characteristics of the solid solution of W atoms and the precipitation of fine α phases. Compared with Ti6Al4V alloy, the Ti20W alloys showed lower corrosion current density values in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, which was attributed to the solid solution of W elements and the finer α phases. The W oxides, particularly WO3, acted as the barrier to effectively block the penetration of Cl− into the inner oxide layer, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance. The fine α phases could be bridged by the surrounding matrix oxides during the passivation process, which contributed to decreasing the galvanic corrosion between the α phases and the matrix, further improving the corrosion resistance.

Objective To evaluate clinical efficacy of chronic disease management based on a case management model in patients with allergic bronchial asthma. Methods Patients with allergic bronchial asthma admitted to the outpatient of Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital from February 2020 to February 2023 were retrospectively included. The effect of case management on asthma symptom control and lung function was analyzed by tracking the asthma symptom control （ACT） score and lung function at 1， 3， 6 and 12 months after case management. Results A total of 175 patients with allergic asthma were included， comprising 70 male （40%） and 105 female （60%）， with a mean age of （45.58±13.78） years. Among these patients， 139 （79.4%） cases were complicated with allergic rhinitis. Pulmonary function parameters， including FEV1%pred， FEV1， FEV1/FVC， MMEF75/25%pred and PEF， were improved significantly from （87.09±18.56）%， （2.65±0.88） L， （75.09±11.93）%， 52.20% （34.70%， 69.30%）， and （6.65±1.94） L/s to （97.80±13.81）%， （2.96±0.76） L， （84.72±11.18）%， 69.20% （53.70%， 86.90%）， and （7.57±1.89） L/s （all P < 0.001）， respectively. ACT score showed a 100% good control rate after 1-year case management， with a complete control rate of 69.7%. Repeated measures analysis of variance revealed no significant differences in symptom control based on gender or allergic rhinitis history （F = 0.575， P = 0.681； F = 2.317， P = 0.059）. There was interaction between age group and case management time. At 6-month case management， the ACT score of patients aged≥ 60 years old was significantly lower than those of patients ≤ 44 years old and 45-59 years old （both P < 0.05）. The proportion of inhaled drug usage rate and accuracy rate of using inhalation medication devices at 1-， 3-， 6- and 12-month case management was 98.8%， 86.8%， 68.0%， 51.4% and 98.8%， 100%， 100%， 100%， respectively. Conclusion The case management model can significantly improve both the usage rate and correct usage rate of inhaled medication device， enhance symptom control rate， and promote lung function recovery.

Abstract Asthma is a complex chronic respiratory inflammatory disease affected by both genetic and environmental factors. Therefore, our study explored the influence of TRIM11 on asthma and its underlying mechanisms. Our research involved patients diagnosed with asthma and healthy volunteers recruited from our hospital. We observed a reduction in serum TRIM11 expression in asthma patients, which positively correlated with the levels of anti-IgE or IgE. Additionally, both TRIM11 mRNA and protein expression in lung tissue were diminished. The introduction of the TRIM11 gene resulted in a reduction in inflammation in an in vitro asthma model and prevented the development of asthma in a mouse model. Moreover, the TRIM11 gene exhibited a suppressive effect on Ferroptosis and mitigated ROS-induced mitochondrial damage in the asthma model. TRIM11 was found to stimulate UBE2N-TAX1BP1 signaling in the asthma model, with UBE2N being identified as the specific target for TRIM11’s effects on Ferroptosis. Furthermore, TRIM11 protein interacted with UBE2N protein and facilitated the dissociation of UBE2N-UBE2N in the asthma model. In conclusion, TRIM11 plays a vital role in preventing Ferroptosis in the asthma model through UBE2N-TAX1BP1 signaling. This indicates that targeting the TRIM11 mechanism could serve as a promising strategy for anti-Ferroptosis immunotherapy in asthma treatment.

Abstract Background Cryptosporidium spp. are important zoonotic parasites that can cause moderate to severe diarrhea in humans and animals. Among the three Cryptosporidium species infecting the intestines of calves, Cryptosporidium parvum has a broad host range and causes severe diarrhea in calves, while Cryptosporidium bovis and Cryptosporidium ryanae mainly infect calves without obvious clinical symptoms. Comparative genomic analysis revealed differences in the copy number of genes encoding the nonfinancial disclosure quality (NFDQ) secretory protein family among the three species, suggesting that this protein family may be associated with the host range or pathogenicity of Cryptosporidium spp. To understand the function of cgd8_10 encoded NFDQ1, tagged and knockout strains were constructed and characterized in this study. Methods To determine the localization of NFDQ1, we used clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) technology to tag the C-terminus of NFDQ1 with three hemagglutinin epitopes (3 × HA). The tagged strain was constructed, and the genomic insertion was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Immunofluorescence assays were performed to observe the localization of NFDQ1 both in extracellular sporozoites and at various intracellular developmental stages. Immunoelectron microscopy was used to study the ultrastructural localization of NFDQ1. Then, the ΔNFDQ1 strain was generated by CRISPR/Cas9 and the in vitro growth assay on HCT-8 cells was used to analyze of phenotypic changes after knockout NFDQ1 in parasites. Results The NFDQ1 tagging and knockout stains were successfully constructed by CRISPR/Cas9 technology and the insertions of transgenic strains were validated by PCR. The expression of NFDQ1 was validated in parasite by western blot. Immunofluorescence and immune-electron microscopy assay showed that NFDQ1 expressed in both asexual and sexual stages of C. parvum, where it was localized to the cytoplasm of the parasite. Upon ablation of NFDQ1, the ΔNFDQ1 strain showed an apparent growth retardation during sexual replication in vitro. Conclusions NFDQ1 is a cytoplasmic protein without specific localization to secretory organelles, and it may participate in C. parvum growth during sexual reproduction. Future study should determine the role of NFDQ1 following C. parvum infection in vivo. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Sepsis-induced myopathy (SIM) has been recognized as a critical risk factor for the development of acquired muscle weakness among patients in the intensive care unit. These individuals frequently encounter inadequate dietary intake and malnutrition. With the aggravation of the severity of the person’s condition, leading to increased skeletal muscle protein breakdown and reduced synthesis, which is an urgent problem to be solved in clinical nutritional treatment. Whole milk protein powder (WMPP) has promising bioactive nutrients and holds promising potential for enhancing skeletal muscle mass. The study was designed to delve into the potential effects and mechanisms of WMPP intervention for increaseing skeletal muscle mass on SIM mice. Our results clearly show that the intervention with WMPP can significantly improve the exercise capacity and skeletal muscle mass in SIM mice. It significantly increases the diameter and cross-sectional area (CSA) of skeletal muscle fibers, while effectively reducing the excessive aggregation of collagen fibers and the abnormal accumulation of adipose tissue in the skeletal muscle of SIM mice. Moreover, WMPP intervention also significantly alleviated the oxidative stress status of mitochondria, which subsequently enhanced the expression of mitochondrial metabolic enzymes. The mechanism may be associated with decreased AMPK phosphorylation in skeletal muscle tissue and simultaneously increased phosphorylation of mTOR, p70S6K1, and 4EBP-1 in SIM mice. In summary, the WMPP intervention significantly enhances exercise capacity and skeletal muscle mass while mitigating the oxidative stress status of mitochondria. Furthermore, it regulates skeletal muscle anabolism via the AMPK/mTOR signaling pathway in SIM mice.

Abstract Background Critical thinking has been regarded as an essential skill for college students, which is especially imperative for medical students to possess the ability to have in-depth insight into complex clinical situations. Medical Immunology is an overarching principle connecting multiple medical subjects, which emphasizes that immunity is both beneficial and harmful to the host, thus putting higher demands on students’ critical thinking. The utilization of Nobel Prize stories has been cited as a thematic framework for classroom teaching of other courses, showing numerous educational benefits. Therefore, this study rejuvenated a case-based teaching approach by creating and introducing a vibrant material library centered on numerous iconic Nobel Prize cases in Medical Immunology and evaluating its effects on the critical thinking of medical students. Methods A total of 70 second-year medical undergraduates from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were divided into a control group and an experimental group of 35 cases each. Throughout the semester, the control received the traditional teaching method, and the experimental group adopted case-based teaching based on the Nobel prize-centered material library. The process of teaching design and practice was described using “Antitoxin and immunoserum therapy” as a classical example. A unified assessment of the critical thinking dispositions of participants was conducted at the beginning and end of the semester using the Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version (CTDI-CV). Results Intra-group longitudinal comparisons and inter-group parallel evaluations indicated that, compared with the conventional teaching approach, Nobel Prize case-based learning induced a statistically significant increase in the overall score of the CTDI-CV, as well as the scores within the subdimensions of truth-seeking, analyticity, and maturity in judgment (p

In this study, a bimetallic telluride with a hollow polyhedral structure was synthesized using a hydrothermal method followed by vapor deposition. This composite exhibits high conductivity, facilitates rapid diffusion of electrolyte ions into the interior, and accelerates redox reactions, thereby enhancing electrochemical performance. The CoTe2-NiTe2 electrode demonstrates an impressive specific capacity of 188.8 mAh/g at 1 A/g, highlighting its efficiency in storing a significant amount of charge per unit mass during electrochemical reactions. The assembled CoTe2-NiTe2//Zn battery shows favorable capacity retention (76.4%) after 10000 cycles. The energy density is remarkably high, reaching 290.3 Wh/kg, while maintaining a power density of 1.75 kW/kg. This bimetallic telluride strategy holds great promise as an alternative cathode for AZBs.

The emergence of TKX-50, an energetic ionic salt with a high enthalpy of formation and low sensitivity, has opened a new path for the development of high-energetic, insensitive composite explosives. However, due to the poor interfacial binding properties of TKX-50 with conventional binders, there is a lack of effective guidance for the design of TKX-50 based composite explosives. To address the above issues, the interactions between carboxymethyl cellulose acetate butyrate (CMCAB) and other binders with explosives TKX-50/HMX were compared using the molecular dynamics method. Based on the simulations, TKX-50/HMX/CMCAB-based polymer-bonded explosives (PBXs) were prepared with CMCAB as binder, which displays a high binding energy (Ebind) with TKX-50 and high cohesive energy density (CED), and the effect of TKX-50 content on the performance of PBXs was investigated. The physical properties of PBXs, specifically the morphology, mechanical sensitivity, and thermal conductivity, were analyzed by SEM, sensitivity apparatus, and thermal conductivity meter, respectively. The specific heat capacity (Cp) and non-isothermal decomposition temperature of PBXs were tested by DSC, and then the corresponding thermal kinetic parameters were analyzed to evaluate their thermal safety. The adiabatic thermal decomposition processes of PBXs were tested using an ARC instrument. The decomposition mechanism and kinetics were also explored to further analyze their thermal stability and thermal safety under adiabatic conditions. The computer code EXPLO5 was used to predict the detonation parameters of PBXs. The results showed that CMCAB and TKX-50 displayed favorable interfacial bonding properties, and TKX-50 can be bonded with HMX to form a molding powder with a desirable morphology and safety profile. The TKX-50 in PBXs effectively improves the mechanical sensitivity and thermal safety of PBX and has a significant effect on the detonation performance of PBX. This research demonstrates a novel method suitable for screening and investigating high-energetic insensitive explosive systems compatible with TKX-50.

Abstract Background The present retrospective cohort study focused on evaluating the effects of fluctuations in serum uric acid (SUA) on a mildly reduced glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in a population with a normal eGFR in Urumqi, China. Methods A total of 2,154 normal individuals with a normal eGFR were recruited from 2018 to 2021. This study included questionnaire surveys, physical measurements, and blood sampling. We deemed the mildly reduced eGFR to be 60–90 ml·min–1·(1.73 m2)–1. The relationship between changes in SUA levels and the eGFR was assessed. Results (1) During the 3-year follow-up period, 433 individuals (20.10%) presented mildly reduced eGFR. (2) After stratification by the degree to which uric acid changed into five groups, the group showing the greatest change in uric acid concentration had significantly lower eGFR values than the other four groups. As the uric acid concentration (ΔSUA) increased, the degree of mild eGFR reduction (ΔeGFR) also increased (P 0.05). Abstract Objective To investigate indications and surgical procedures of keratoplasty in a tertiary comprehensive hospital in northern part of China over a 20-year period. Methods All patients undergoing keratoplasty between January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2021 in a tertiary comprehensive hospital in northern part of China were retrospectively reviewed. Abstract Background Spermidine (SPD) is an intermediate compound in the polyamine metabolism which takes critical part in a variety of cellular processes. In particular, it has been reported to exert anti-aging effects, suppress the age-related diseases, and extend lifespan across species. However, whether it has the favorable influence on the quality of postovulatory aged oocytes remains elusive. Methods Immunostaining and fluorescence intensity measurement were used to evaluate the effects of postovulatory aging and SPD supplementation on the oocyte fragmentation, spindle/chromosome structure, actin polymerization, dynamics of cortical granules (CGs) and ovastacin, mitochondrial distribution and function, as well as autophagy levels. In addition, in vitro sperm binding assay and in vitro fertilization (IVF) experiment were applied to assess the impacts of postovulatory aging and SPD supplementation on the sperm binding ability and fertilization capacity of oocytes. Results Here, we showed that supplementation of SPD during postovulatory aging could relieve the deterioration of porcine oocytes. Specifically, we found that postovulatory aging impaired the oocyte quality by damaging the morphological integrity of oocytes, maintenance of spindle/chromosome structure, and dynamics of actin cytoskeleton. Postovulatory aging also weakened the sperm binding ability and fertilization capacity of oocytes by compromising the distribution pattern of CGs and their content ovastacin. Notably, supplementation of SPD attenuated these defects in postovulatory aged porcine oocytes via strengthening mitochondrial function, eliminating excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibiting apoptosis, and enhancing autophagy levels. Conclusion Altogether, our findings demonstrate that SPD supplementation is a feasible approach to ameliorate the quality of postovulatory aged oocytes, which can be potentially applied to the human assisted reproductive technology (ART) and in vitro production of animal embryos.

Abstract This paper focuses on the minimum eigenvalue involving the Fan product. By utilizing the Hölder inequality and the classic eigenvalue inclusion theorem, we introduce two novel lower bounds for τ ( A 1 ⋆ A 2 ) $\tau \left ( A_{1}\star A_{2} \right )$ , representing the minimum eigenvalue involving the Fan product of two M-matrices A 1 , A 2 $A_{1},A_{2}$ . The newly derived lower bounds are then compared with the traditional findings. Numerical tests are presented to illustrate that the new lower bound formulas significantly enhance Johnson and Horn’s results in certain scenarios and are more precise than other existing findings.

In order to optimize Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) inside a microgrid's Security-Constrained Unit Commitment framework, this study investigates the use of Seq2Seq (Sequence-to-Sequence) scheduling methods (SCUC). There is a growing consensus that microgrids are an important part of the future of the electric grid because of the advantages they provide in terms of reliability, renewable energy integration, and overall efficiency. In the context of complicated SCUC issues, efficient scheduling and optimization of DERs are essential for realizing their full potential. Seq2Seq models, a kind of deep learning approach, have shown impressive performance in several applications requiring sequence prediction. Uncertainty in renewable energy production, energy demand forecasts, and security limitations are all addressed in this work as Seq2Seq algorithms are applied to microgrid SCUC. Significant gains in economic efficiency, ecological viability, and compliance with security constraints have been shown. This study lays the way for the development of more effective, sustainable, and resilient energy infrastructure by contributing to the advancement of the area of microgrid optimization.

Abstract Background SHR-1707 is a novel humanized anti-Aβ IgG1 monoclonal antibody that binds to Aβ fibrils and monomers to block the formation of Aβ plaques or to promote the microglial phagocytosis of Aβ. Preclinical studies showed that SHR-1707 reduced brain Aβ deposition in 5xFAD transgenic mice. Herein, we conducted two phase 1 studies to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of a single intravenous dose of SHR-1707 in healthy adult subjects. Methods Two randomized, double-blind, single-ascending-dose, phase 1 studies were conducted in China (Study CHN) and Australia (Study AUS). Study CHN consisted of 2 parts. In Part 1, eligible healthy young adults (18–45 years) were sequentially randomized 8:2 to receive SHR-1707 (five cohorts: 2, 6, 20, 40, and 60 mg/kg) or placebo in each cohort; in Part 2, elderly subjects (55–80 years) were randomized 8:4 to receive SHR-1707 (20 mg/kg) or placebo. A similar design was used in Study AUS, but with only healthy young adults enrolled across three dosing cohorts (2, 20, and 60 mg/kg). Results Sixty-two (part 1/2, n = 50/12; age range, 18–42/55–63 years) and 30 subjects (age range, 18–42 years) received SHR-1707 or placebo in Study CHN and Study AUS, respectively. In Study CHN, all treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) were mild, with the most common being transient laboratory abnormalities. In Study AUS, TRAEs were mostly mild (1 moderate event each with SHR-1707/placebo); the most common TRAEs with SHR-1707 were dysgeusia and fatigue (8.3% each). In both studies, the exposure of SHR-1707 increased in a slightly greater than dose-proportional manner over the dose range of 2–60 mg/kg in young adults; there was a dose-dependent increase in plasma Aβ42 concentration following SHR-1707 administration compared with the placebo group. The safety and PK and PD profiles of SHR-1707 in the elderly subjects were consistent with the younger counterpart at the same dose level. No ethnic difference in safety, PK and PD of SHR-1707 was observed. Conclusions A single intravenous dose of SHR-1707 at 2–60 mg/kg was safe and well tolerated in healthy young adult and elderly subjects. The PK and PD profiles are supportive for further clinical development. Abstract This paper proposes a framework to examine how neighborhood factors influence criminal justice (CJ) contact and contribute to disparities across multiple stages of the justice process. By conceptualizing the punishment process as a dynamic set of decision-making points, this study highlights the role of neighborhood context in shaping offenders’ CJ trajectories and post-CJ residential inequality. Using Harris County, Texas, as a case study, this research considers individual-, neighborhood-, and event-level variables to understand the cumulative effects of neighborhood characteristics on CJ outcomes. This study underscores the critical need to investigate neighborhood mobility and its broader implications for community development and public policy. The findings can be supported by extensive data from the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers and the Criminal Justice Administrative Records System, offering a robust analysis of offenders’ spatial patterns and economic transitions.

Abstract Background Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a life-threatening condition characterized by high fever and severe mucocutaneous lesions, often triggered by drugs or infection. During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, there was a marked increase in Stevens–Johnson syndrome cases, but relatively few cases were reported in children. The present article reports a pediatric case of Stevens–Johnson syndrome due to coronavirus disease 2019 infection and provides a review of the most relevant literature. Case presentation A previously healthy 15-year-old Han Chinese boy from China presented to the hospital with oral ulcers, conjunctival hyperemia, and widespread maculopapular rash. He had a history of fever 9 days prior and tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 infection. Upon admission, his rash and mucosal lesions worsened, with the development of blisters on the fingertips of both hands, ocular pain, photophobia, and erosive lesions on the genital mucosa with exudation. He was diagnosed with Stevens–Johnson syndrome and received treatment with methylprednisolone, intravenous immunoglobulin, and dermatological and mucosal care. The patient’s condition was managed, and the dosage of high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone was tapered down, followed by a transition to oral prednisolone. He was discharged without sequelae. Conclusion We should be aware that coronavirus disease 2019 infection is associated with the development of Stevens–Johnson syndrome in children and may lead to a wide spectrum of dermatologic presentations. Although Stevens–Johnson syndrome is a relatively rare condition, given its potentially serious consequences, it is crucial to identify it as early as possible and to take appropriate preventive and therapeutic measures to reduce complications and improve the quality of life for patients.

Abstract Background Most patients with osteoporosis experience vertebral compression fracture (VCF), which significantly reduces their quality of life. These patients are at a high risk of secondary VCF regardless of treatment. Thus, accurate diagnosis of VCF is important for treating and preventing new fractures. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic and predictive value of quantitative bone imaging techniques for fresh VCF. Methods From November 2021 to March 2023, 34 patients with VCF were enrolled in this study, all of whom underwent routine 99mTc-MDP whole-body bone planar scan and local SPECT/CT imaging. The maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) of 57 fresh VCF, 57 normal adjacent vertebrae, and 19 old VCF were measured. Based on the site of the fracture, fresh VCFs were regrouped into the intervertebral-type group and the margin-type group. Meanwhile, 52 patients who had no bone metastasis or VCFs in their bone scan were assigned to the control group. The SUVmax of 110 normal vertebral bodies and 10 old VCFs in the control group were measured. Results The median SUVmax of fresh VCF was 19.80, which was significantly higher than the SUVmax of other groups. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve showed that the cut-off value of SUVmax was 9.925 for diagnosing fresh VCF. The SUVmax in the intervertebral-type group was significantly higher than that in the margin-type group (P = 0.04). Abstract Background Gesture recognition using surface electromyography (sEMG) has garnered significant attention due to its potential for intuitive and natural control in wearable human–machine interfaces. However, ensuring robustness remains essential and is currently the primary challenge for practical applications. Methods This study investigates the impact of limb conditions and analyzes the influence of electrode placement. Both static and dynamic limb conditions were examined using electrodes positioned on the wrist, elbow, and the midpoint between them. Initially, we compared classification performance across various training conditions at these three electrode locations. Subsequently, a feature space analysis was conducted to quantify the effects of limb conditions. Finally, strategies for group training and feature selection were explored to mitigate these effects. Results The results indicate that with the state-of-the-art method, classification performance at the wrist was comparable to that at the middle position, both of which outperformed the elbow, consistent with the findings from the feature space analysis. In inter-condition classification, training under dynamic limb conditions yielded better results than training under static conditions, especially at the positions covered by dynamic training. Additionally, fast and slow movement speeds produced similar performance outcomes. To mitigate the effects of limb conditions, adding more training conditions reduced classification errors; however, this reduction plateaued after four conditions, resulting in classification errors of 22.72%, 22.65%, and 26.58% for the wrist, middle, and elbow, respectively. Feature selection further improved classification performance, reducing errors to 19.98%, 19.75%, and 27.14% at the respective electrode locations, using three optimal features derived from single-condition training. Conclusions The study demonstrated that the impact of limb conditions was mitigated when electrodes were placed near the wrist. Dynamic limb condition training, combined with feature optimization, proved to be an effective strategy for reducing this effect. This work contributes to enhancing the robustness of myoelectric-controlled interfaces, thereby advancing the development of wearable intelligent devices.

Abstract The wilt disease of ginger, caused by various Fusarium species, imperils the cultivation of this valuable crop. However, the pathogenic mechanisms and epidemiology of ginger wilt remain elusive. Here, we investigate the association between ginger rhizome health and the prevalence of Fusarium conidia, as well as examine fungal community composition in symptomatic and asymptomatic ginger tissues. Our findings show that diseased rhizomes have reduced tissue firmness, correlating negatively with Fusarium conidia counts. Pathogenicity assays confirmed that both Fusarium oxysporum and Fusarium solani are capable of inducing wilt symptoms in rhizomes and sterile seedlings. Furthermore, Fungal community profiling revealed Fusarium to be the dominant taxon across all samples, yet its relative abundance was significantly different between symptomatic and asymptomatic tissues. Specifically, there is a higher incidence of Fusarium amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) in symptomatic above-ground parts. Our results unequivocally implicate F. oxysporum or F. solani as the etiological agents responsible for ginger wilt and demonstrate that Fusarium is the principal fungal pathogen associated with this disease. These findings provide critical insights for efficacious disease management practices within the ginger industry.

Abstract Background The study aimed to identify the optimal model for predicting rectal cancer liver metastasis (RCLM). This involved constructing various prediction models to aid clinicians in early diagnosis and precise decision-making. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 193 patients diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma were randomly divided into training set (n = 136) and validation set (n = 57) at a ratio of 7:3. The predictive performance of three models was internally validated by 10-fold cross-validation in the training set. Delineation of the tumor region of interest (ROI) was performed, followed by the extraction of radiomics features from the ROI. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression algorithm and multivariate Cox analysis were employed to reduce the dimensionality of radiomics features and identify significant features. Abstract Background Cancer cachexia‐induced skeletal muscle fibrosis (SMF) impairs muscle regeneration, alters the muscle structure and function, reduces the efficacy of anticancer drugs, diminishes the patient's quality of life and shortens overall survival. RUNX family transcription factor 2 (Runx2), a transcription factor, and collagen type I alpha 1 chain (COL1A1), the principal constituent of SMF, have been linked previously, with Runx2 shown to directly modulate COL1A1 mRNA levels. l‐Carnitine, a marker of cancer cachexia, can alleviate fibrosis in liver and kidney models; however, its role in cancer cachexia‐associated fibrosis and the involvement of Runx2 in the process remain unexplored. Methods Female C57 mice (48 weeks old) were inoculated subcutaneously with MC38 cells to establish a cancer cachexia model. A 5 mg/kg dose of l‐carnitine or an equivalent volume of water was administered for 14 days via oral gavage, followed by assessments of muscle function (grip strength) and fibrosis. To elucidate the interplay between the deltex E3 ubiquitin ligase 3L(DTX3L)/Runx2/COL1A1 axis and fibrosis in transforming growth factor beta 1‐stimulated NIH/3T3 cells, a suite of molecular techniques, including quantitative real‐time PCR, western blot analysis, co‐immunoprecipitation, molecular docking, immunofluorescence and Duolink assays, were used. ObjectiveTo explore the association between feeding methods at 1 month postpartum and maternal sleep status. MethodsFrom November 2021 to September 2022, a total of 757 postpartum women at 1 month postpartum in Nanjing, Chengdu, Xi′an, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Qingdao were surveyed by face-to-face to collect information on infant feeding methods and sleep status of 1 monthpostpartum women. The study subjects were divided into four groups according to the feeding methods: (1) exclusive breastfeeding, (2) exclusive breastfeeding/bottle-feeding, (3) mixed feeding – breastfeeding, and (4) mixed feeding – breastfeeding/bottle-feeding. A generalized linear model was used to analyze the association between feeding method and sleep duration of postpartum women. A multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between feeding method and the risk of insufficient or excessive total sleep duration and subjective sleep quality in postpartum women. ResultsThe number of women in the exclusive breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding/bottle-feeding, mixed feeding – breastfeeding, and mixed feeding – breastfeeding/bottle-feeding groups was 263, 173, 152, and 169, respectively, and the total sleep duration was (8.4 ± 1.7), (7.8 ± 1.5), (8.3 ± 1.8), and (8.1 ± 1.7) hours, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, compared with mothers who exclusively breastfed, total sleep duration and night sleep duration were reduced by 0.7 and 0.5 hours, respectively, in mothers who exclusively breastfed/bottle-fed and mothers who mixed fed – breastfed/bottle-fed (P < 0.05). The risk of insufficient total sleep duration (< 7 h) was significantly increased in the exclusive breastfeeding/bottle-feeding group, with an adjusted OR (95%CI) of 2.07 (1.16 – 3.72). The risk of poor or very poor subjective sleep quality was significantly increased in the exclusive breastfeeding/bottle-feeding group, mixed feeding – breastfeeding group, and mixed feedin – breastfeeding/bottle-feeding group, with adjusted OR (95%CI) of 3.11 (1.52 – 6.35), 2.31 (1.02 – 5.22), and 3.00 (1.32 – 6.80), respectively. ConclusionPostpartum women who exclusively breastfed had longer sleep duration and the best subjective sleep quality.

Necrozoospermia is a poorly documented condition with a low incidence, and its definition and clinical significance are unclear. Herein, we provide a reference range for necrozoospermia and discuss its possible etiology and impact on male fertility and assisted reproductive outcomes. We extracted relevant information from 650 Chinese male partners of infertile couples and statistically analyzed sperm vitality. Necrozoospermia was present in 3.4% (22/650) of our study population, and the lower cut-off value for sperm vitality was 75.3%. We compared two methods for assessing sperm vitality (eosin-nigrosin head staining and hypo-osmotic swelling test [HOST]), for which the percentage in the eosin-nigrosin group (mean ± standard deviation [s.d.]: 77.5% ± 10.5%) was significantly higher than that in the HOST group (mean ± s.d.: 58.1% ± 6.7% [5–10 min after incubation] and 55.6% ± 8.2% [25–30 min after incubation]; both P < 0.001). The incidence of necrozoospermia increased with age (odds ratio [OR] = 1.116, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.048–1.189, P = 0.001), while the percentage of normal sperm morphology and DNA fragmentation index (DFI) were significantly associated with necrozoospermia, with ORs of 0.691 (95% CI: 0.511–0.935, P = 0.017) and 1.281 (95% CI: 1.180–1.390, P < 0.001), respectively. In the following 6 months, we recruited 166 patients in the nonnecrozoospermia group and 87 patients in the necrozoospermia group to compare intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and pregnancy outcomes between the two groups. The necrozoospermia group had a significantly lower normal fertilization rate (74.7% vs 78.2%, P = 0.041; OR = 0.822; 95% CI: 0.682–0.992) than that in the nonnecrozoospermia group. This study presents substantial information on necrozoospermia to establish comprehensive and applicable reference values for sperm vitality for spontaneous conception and artificially assisted reproductive management.

Abstract Low back pain (LBP) is a highly prevalent disease. Among the various causes of LBP, one of the most frequent is myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) which affects the spinal stabilizer muscles. The aims of this study were to compare the differences in muscular electrical activity and biomechanical properties between the painful and non-painful sides in patients with unilateral MPS and to verify the feasibility of surface electromyography (sEMG) and MyotonPRO for assisting in MPS assessment. Forty patients with unilateral lumbar MPS were recruited via the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Center of West China Hospital Sichuan University from October 2022 to October 2023. The electrical properties of the bilateral erector spinae muscles were characterized by sEMG signals during a trunk extension task. The following four time-domain features of sEMG were extracted: root mean square (RMS), mean absolute value (MAV), integrated EMG (iEMG), and waveform length (WL). And two frequency domain features were extracted: the median frequency (MDF) and mean power frequency (MPF). The mechanical properties of the muscles were assessed by MyotonPRO at rest. The following biomechanical parameters were acquired: oscillation frequency [Hz], dynamic stiffness [N/m], logarithmic decrement, relaxation time [ms], and Creep. The visual analog scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain severity, and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used to evaluate the severity of disability and disruption to lifestyle activities caused by LBP pain. Abstract Biological studies of the determinants of Cryptosporidium infectivity are lacking despite the fact that cryptosporidiosis is a major public health problem. Recently, the 60-kDa glycoprotein (GP60) has received attention because of its high sequence polymorphism and association with host infectivity of isolates and protection against reinfection. However, studies of GP60 function have been hampered by its heavy O-linked glycosylation. Here, we used advanced genetic tools to investigate the processing, fate, and function of GP60. Endogenous gene tagging showed that the GP60 cleavage products, GP40 and GP15, are both highly expressed on the surface of sporozoites, merozoites and male gametes. During invasion, GP40 translocates to the apical end of the zoites and remains detectable at the parasite-host interface. Deletion of the signal peptide, GPI anchor, and GP15 sequences affects the membrane localization of GP40. Deletion of the GP60 gene significantly reduces parasite growth and severity of infection, and replacement of the GP60 gene with sequence from an avirulent isolate reduces the pathogenicity of a highly infective isolate. These results have revealed dynamic changes in GP60 expression during parasite development. They further suggest that GP60 is a key protein mediating host infectivity and pathogenicity.

Abstract Nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from forest soils are typically intensified under elevated anthropogenic nitrogen (N) deposition, likely due to increased N availability. However, the extent to which these emissions are linked to N availability across different timescales remains poorly understood. Here we investigated the temporal-scale-dependent mechanisms of N₂O emissions in a subalpine forest under N-addition, using hourly-resolved N₂O measurements. Our findings revealed that N-addition induced both pulse emissions and a long-lasting effect on soil N₂O emissions. The pulse emissions occurred immediately after each N-addition, indicating a strong linkage between the pulse events and elevated N availability. However, variations in annual N₂O emissions were not directly regulated by N availability but were instead explained by denitrifying microbial functional genes ratio. A global meta-analysis further confirmed the importance of microbial functional genes in regulating N2O emissions in natural terrestrial ecosystems. Our results suggest a crucial role of microbial functional genes in predicting annual N2O emissions from forest soils.

Abstract Background Ferritin, a key indicator of body iron levels, has been reported to associate with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the onset of Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, limited research explores the association between mid-pregnancy ferritin levels and the risk of postpartum abnormal glucose metabolism (AGM) in patients with GDM. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted in 1514 women with GDM recruited from January 2016 to January 2021, and 916 women were included. Demographic characteristics, medical history and family history, pregnancy complications were recorded. Multiple logistic regression models were performed to assess the association between mid-pregnancy ferritin levels and the risk of postpartum AGM. Results Following the postpartum oral glucose tolerance test, 307 (33.5%) exhibited AGM. The resource utilization of calcium carbide residue (CCR) and rice husk ash (RHA) is helpful to save resources and alleviate environmental pollution. In this research, CCR and RHA were used to modify soft clay, and the resonant column test was conducted to explore its small-strain dynamic characteristics. The micro-mechanism of CCR-RHA modified soft clay (CRSC) was investigated by using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and mercury intrusion tests. The findings demonstrated that the dynamic shear modulus of the CRSC increased with the increase of RHA content and confining pressure, but decreased with the increase of shear strain. In contrast, the damping ratio presents the opposite change law. The Hardin-Drnevich (H-D) model was used to fit the dynamic shear modulus/maximum dynamic shear modulus (G/Gmax)-shear strain γ and the damping ratio D-shear strain γ. As confining pressure increased, Gmax increased but Dmax dropped in CRSC specimens with the same RHA content. The changes of the fitted G/Gmax-γ curve could be divided into progressively decrease stage and rapid decrease stage, while the changes of the fitted D-γ curve could be separated into linear stage and slow stage, with the same turning point γ = 10−4. Microscopic tests revealed that the incorporation of CCR and RHA helped to promote the hydration reaction, and the generated hydration products such as calcium silicate hydrate were able to enhance the integrity and compactness of the CRSC. The results of this research putfward solid foundation for the application of CCR-RHA in the modification of soft soil.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to evaluate the impact of adding 4 mg estradiol valerate to progesterone for luteal support on pregnancy rates in IVF cycles following a long protocol with reduced luteal serum estradiol levels post-hCG triggering. Design, setting, and participants The prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted at a public tertiary hospital reproductive center with 241 patients who experienced a significant decrease in serum estrogen levels post-oocyte retrieval. Interventions Participants received either a daily 4 mg dose of estradiol valerate in addition to standard progesterone or standard progesterone alone for luteal support. Results The ongoing pregnancy rate did not show a significant difference between the E2 group and the control group (56.6% vs. 52.2%, with an absolute rate difference (RD) of 4.4%, 95% CI -0.087 to 0.179, P = 0.262). Similarly, the live birth rate, implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, early abortion rate, and severe OHSS rate were comparable between the two groups. Notably, the E2 group had no biochemical miscarriages, contrasting significantly with the control group (0.0% vs. 10.7%, RD -10.7%, 95% CI -0.178 to -0.041, P = 0.000). In the blastocyst stage category, the clinical pregnancy rate was notably higher in the E2 group compared to the control group (75.6% vs. 60.8%, RD 14.9%, 95% CI 0.012 to 0.294, P = 0.016). Conclusion Adding 4 mg estradiol valerate to progesterone for luteal support does not affect the ongoing pregnancy rate in embryo transfer cycles using a long protocol with a significant decrease in serum estradiol levels after hCG triggering. However, it may reduce biochemical miscarriages and positively impact clinical pregnancy rates in blastocyst embryo transfer cycles. Trial registration ChiCTR1800020342.

Abstract Background Breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) has a negative impact on patients’ quality of life, general activities, and is related to worse clinical outcomes. Fentanyl inhalant is a hand-held combination drug-device delivery system providing rapid, multi-dose (25μg/dose) administration of fentanyl via inhalation of a thermally generated aerosol. This multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, multiple-crossover, double-blind study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of fentanyl inhalant in treating BTcP in opioid-tolerant patients. Methods The trial was conducted in opioid-tolerant cancer patients with 1 ~ 4 BTcP outbursts per day. Each patient was treated and observed for 6 episodes of BTcP (4 with fentanyl inhalant, 2 with placebo). During each episode of targeted BTcP, patients were allowed up to six inhalations, with an interval of at least 4 min between doses. Primary outcome was the time-weighted sum of PID (pain intensity difference) scores at 30 min (SPID30). Results A total of 335 BTcP episodes in 59 patients were treated. Background: The incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC), which exhibits differential clinical, pathological, and molecular features compared to late-onset CRC (LOCRC), is rising globally. The potential differential effects of blood glucose on EOCRC compared to LOCRC have not been investigated. Methods: This study analyzed 374,568 participants from the UK Biobank cohort and 172,809 participants from the Kailuan cohort. The linear associations between blood glucose and EOCRC/LOCRC were estimated using Cox regression models. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis and non-linear Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using a 70-SNPs genetic instrument for fasting glucose were used to explore the potential non-linear associations. Results: Participants in the highest quintile of blood glucose had higher overall CRC risk compared to the lowest quintile (HR = 1.10 in the UK Biobank cohort, 95% CI: 1.01–1.21, P-trend = 0.012; HR = 1.23 in the Kailuan cohort, 95% CI: 1.01–1.51, P-trend = 0.036). Elevated glucose (>7.0 mmol/L) was more strongly associated with increased risk of EOCRC (HR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.07–2.44) than with LOCRC (HR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.02–1.27) in the UK Biobank cohort (P-heterogeneity = 0.014). Elevated glucose (>7.0 mmol/L) was associated with increased risk of LOCRC (HR = 1.25, 95% CI: 1.04–1.65) in the Kailuan cohort as well. There was no evidence for non-linear associations between blood glucose and risks of EOCRC/LOCRC. Conclusions: This study showed a positive association between blood glucose and CRC risk in a dose-response manner, particularly for EOCRC, suggesting that tighter glucose control should be a priority for younger age groups.

Abstract Objectives Wild soybean (Glycine soja), the ancestor of domesticated soybean, retains a higher level of genetic diversity and adaptability to harsh environments, making it highly valuable for breeding. Here, we re-sequenced 69 wild soybean individuals collected by the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and identified 1,613,162 high-quality SNPs which not only enriches our understanding of the genetic structure of wild soybean, but also provides valuable resources for further genomic research and genetic improvement of soybean. Data description In this study, we collected 69 wild soybean accessions from Shandong Province, China, and performed re-sequencing on the DNBSEQ platform, followed by SNPs identification. We then integrated ADMIXTURE, neighbor-joining tree, and principal component analysis to illustrate population characteristics. The results showed that these wild soybean accessions could be divided into three distinct subpopulations, exhibiting significant genetic differences.

Parkinson disease (PD) is defined by the loss of dopamine (DA). Changes in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), particularly in local field potential (LFP), can be attributed to deficits in DA and DA receptor expression levels. PPN is a heterogeneous nucleus consisting of cholinergic, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABAergic), and glutamatergic neurons. However, it is unclear whether low levels of DA receptors affect the activity of different PPN neuron types. We record the neuronal activity of PPN by administering the selective dopamine D1 and D2 receptor antagonists, SCH23390 and Raclopride, respectively. This study discover that the firing rates of glutamatergic neurons could be normalized, and their firing patterns were more consistent in lesioned rats treated with raclopride. Raclopride administration could correct the increased coherence and phase locking between glutamatergic spikes and beta-band oscillatory activity in lesioned rats. ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between comorbidity and comorbidity pattern prevalence and mobility function among community-dwelling the elderly in Zhejiang province, and to provide a reference basis for the prevention and intervention of comorbidity prevalence in the elderly. MethodsFrom June to December 2022, a multi-stage random sampling method was used to select 7 776 community-dwelling the elderly aged ≥ 60 years old in Zhejiang province for a questionnaire survey. The relationship between comorbidity and comorbidity pattern prevalence and mobility function was analyzed among the 2 445 the elderly who were finally included and participated in the mobility function test. ResultsAmong the 2 445 community-dwelling the elderly in Zhejiang province, 1 250 had comorbidities, with a comorbidity prevalence rate of 51.12%; 533 had cardiovascular-metabolic comorbidity pattern, with a comorbidity prevalence rate of 21.80%; 323 had respiratory system comorbidity pattern, with a comorbidity prevalence rate of 13.20%; 143 had mental-sensory comorbidity pattern, with a comorbidity prevalence rate of 5.84%; and 258 had musculoskeletal joint comorbidity pattern, with a comorbidity prevalence rate of 10.55%. The completion time of the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test for community-dwelling the elderly in Zhejiang province ranged from 5.05 to 59.55 s, with a mean completion time of (11.21 ± 3.15) s; the completion time of the One-Leg Standing with Eyes Closed (OLS-EC) test ranged from 0 to 29 s, with a mean completion time of (3.72 ± 2.72) s; and the number of repetitions completed in the 30-second Chair Stand (CS-30) test ranged from 0 to 30, with a mean number of repetitions of (13.51 ± 3.79). After adjusting for confounding factors such as gender, age, education level, marital status, and place of residence, community-dwelling the elderly with comorbidities in Zhejiang province had longer TUG completion times (β = 0.51, 95%CI: 0.26 – 0.19), and fewer CS-30 repetitions (β = – 0.73, 95%CI: – 1.02 – – 0.45) compared to those without comorbidities; community-dwelling the elderly with cardiovascular-metabolic comorbidity pattern had longer TUG completion times (β = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.30 – 0.23), and fewer CS-30 repetitions (β = – 0.78, 95%CI: – 1.13 – – 0.43) compared to those without cardiovascular-metabolic comorbidities; community-dwelling the elderly with respiratory system comorbidity pattern had fewer CS-30 repetitions (β = – 1.34, 95%CI: – 2.61 – – 0.07) compared to those without respiratory system comorbidities; and community-dwelling the elderly with musculoskeletal joint comorbidity pattern had longer TUG completion times (β = 0.47, 95%CI: 0.08 – 0.02) compared to those without musculoskeletal joint comorbidities. ConclusionThe prevalence of comorbidities among community-dwelling the elderly in Zhejiang province was positively correlated with the risk of individual mobility function decline, and the impact of different comorbidity pattern prevalence on the mobility function of community-dwelling the elderly varies.

Abstract Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a disorder of low bone mass and increased fracture risk due to a range of genetic variants that prominently include mutations in genes encoding type I collagen. While it is well known that OI reflects defects in the activity of bone-forming osteoblasts, it is currently unclear whether OI also reflects defects in the many other cell types comprising bone, including defects in skeletal vascular endothelium or the skeletal stem cell populations that give rise to osteoblasts and whether correcting these broader defects could have therapeutic utility. Here, we find that numbers of skeletal stem cells (SSCs) and skeletal arterial endothelial cells (AECs) are augmented in Col1a2 oim/oim mice, a well-studied animal model of moderate to severe OI, suggesting that disruption of a vascular SSC niche is a feature of OI pathogenesis. Moreover, crossing Col1a2 oim/oim mice to mice lacking a negative regulator of skeletal angiogenesis and bone formation, Schnurri 3 (SHN3), not only corrected the SSC and AEC phenotypes but moreover robustly corrected the bone mass and spontaneous fracture phenotypes. As this finding suggested a strong therapeutic utility of SHN3 inhibition for the treatment of OI, a bone-targeting AAV was used to mediate Shn3 knockdown, rescuing the Col1a2 oim/oim phenotype and providing therapeutic proof-of-concept for targeting SHN3 for the treatment of OI. Overall, this work both provides proof-of-concept for inhibition of the SHN3 pathway and more broadly addressing defects in the stem/osteoprogenitor niche as is a strategy to treat OI.
