Purpose: This study aimed to validate an ageism scale for dental students in Switzerland. Methods: The original scale was first translated to German and then evaluated by 14 experts for relevance; four items were eliminated. Validation of the resulting questionnaire was performed at three Swiss dental schools. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed; Cronbach’s alpha (α) was used to assess the internal consistency reliability, and Pearson’s coeffi-cient to identify any correlations with demographic parameters (P < 0.05). Results: PCA revealed 11 items among 4 factors (Overall: 11 items, α = 0.63, variance = 56.6%; Factor #1 (F1): items = 3, α = 0.64; Factor #2 (F2): items = 3, α = 0.42; Factor #3 (F3): items = 3, α = 0.35; Factor #4 (F4): items = 2, α = 0.37). F1 and F4 were correlated with clinical experience (F1: P = 0.042; F4: P = 0.006) and participation in a gerodontology course (F1: P = 0.021; F4: P = 0.004). F1 was correlated with experience of dealing with the elderly (P = 0.031), while residence locality was correlated with F3 (P = 0.047) and F4 (P = 0.043). F2 was correlated with the presence of elderly in the family (P = 0.047). Conclusion: The translated dental ageism questionnaire for Switzerland resulted in an 11-item scale with acceptable reliability. © 2022, Nihon University, School of Dentistry. All rights reserved.

The electromagnetic structure of Zn66 at low excitation energy was investigated via low-energy Coulomb excitation at INFN Legnaro National Laboratories, using the Gamma Array of Legnaro Infn Laboratories for nuclEar spectrOscopy (GALILEO) γ-ray spectrometer coupled to the SPIDER (Silicon PIe DEtectoR). A set of reduced E2, E3, and M1 matrix elements was extracted from the collected data using the gosia code, yielding 12 reduced transition probabilities between the low-spin states and the spectroscopic quadrupole moment of the 21+ state. The B(E2) values for transitions depopulating the 02+ state have been determined for the first time, allowing for the lifetime of this state to be deduced and, consequently, the ρ2(E0;02+→01+) monopole transition strength to be extracted. In addition, the B(E3;31−→01+) value has been determined for the first time in a Coulomb excitation experiment. The obtained results resolve the existing discrepancies between literature lifetimes and demonstrate that Zn66 cannot be described by using simple collective models. Therefore, new state-of-the-art beyond-mean-field and large-scale shell-model calculations were performed in order to interpret the structure of this nucleus. Both the experimental and theoretical results suggest that the triaxial degree of freedom has an important impact on electromagnetic properties of Zn66, while the unique features of the 02+ state indicate its distinct and rather isolated structure.

GALILEO, a new 4 π high-resolution γ -detection array, based on HPGe detectors, has been developed and installed at the Legnaro National Laboratories. The GALILEO array greatly benefits from a fully-digital read-out chain, customized DAQ, and a variety of complementary detectors to improve the resolving power by the detection of particles, ions or high-energy γ -ray transitions. In this work, a full description of the array, including electronics and DAQ, is presented together with its complementary instrumentation.

The synthesis and characterization of new polynuclear lanthanide(III) ionic clusters of general formula [Ln 9 (acac) 16 (OH) 10 ] + [Mo 2 (CO) 10 (μ-H)]- (Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Yb) and [Sm 9 (acac) 16 OH) 10 ] + [CrW(CO) 10 (μ-H)] - is reported. The polynuclear complexes, prepared under pure nitrogen atmosphere by interaction of the hydridic metal carbonyls with the β-dichetonate Ln(acac) 3 ·3H 2 O (Ln=Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Yb). The new clusters were characterized by elemental analysis, complexometric titration for Ln, atomic absorption for Cr, W and Mo, gas-volumetric analysis for CO, FTIR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray structure determination of [Sm 9 (acac) 16 (OH) 10 ][Mo 2 (CO) 10 (μ-H)]. The Eu and Yb complexes are isostructural to the Sm one for which, similarly to their homonuclear chromium and tungsten derivative analogues, a square antiprismatic arrangement of eight Sm ions with the ninth at the center of the antiprism has been found.

We obtained eight collections of DNA samples from ethnically matched systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and controls from five European countries totaling 783 patients and 1210 controls. A highly significant cline in the frequency of the PD1.3 A allele was found among controls but not among SLE patients. The frequency of the PD1.3 A allele increased from the Northeast to the Southwest of Europe. The cline was clearly apparent (P = 1.2 x 10(-6)) when data from controls of other five SLE susceptibility studies were included in the analysis. This variation has severely biased SLE association studies owing to the lack of parallel changes in SLE patients. As a consequence, the PD1.3 A allele was more common in SLE patients than in controls in the Northeast and Center of Europe, similar to controls in Southeast Europe, and less frequent than in the controls in the Southwest of the Continent. This dissociation in allele frequencies between SLE patients and controls in different subpopulations indicated that programmed cell death 1 variation and disease susceptibility are not independent but the type of relationship is currently unclear. As allele frequency clines are common in other polymorphisms their impact in genetic epidemiology studies should be carefully considered.
