This work describes the synthesis and characterization of new quinolone–benzothiazole hybrids, the study of their aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties, and the use of these systems as efficient fluorescent probes for cyanide ions. These conjugated derivatives are linked through a double bond favoring electronic communication, and together with their planar geometry, can strongly aggregate under solvophobic environments, leading to aggregation and exhibiting significant AIE behavior. The double bond between electroactive units is prone to nucleophilic addition reactions by cyanide ions, selectively, conducive to turning off the fluorescence properties, making this hybrid system an efficient probe for cyanide ions. Prognostic studies may have a descriptive exploratory objective on an outcome or a comparative objective in the search for factors associated with it. A second objective is explanatory to determine the effect of a particular prognostic factor adjusted for its confounders, with or without the intention of establishing causality. The third objective is the construction of a predictive prognostic scale. For each of these objectives, there are recommended statistical methods for clarification and validity. In this article, the methods and application examples are presented. The proper selection of analytical methods allows for clear and valid communication of the results of a prognostic study. We report a straightforward and efficient synthesis of 4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl benzenesulfonate (3a) and 8-iodo-4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl benzenesulfonate (3b) in good yields through an O-sulfonylation reaction of 7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-ones 1a and 1b with benzenesulfonyl chloride 2 mediated by triethylamine in dichloromethane at ambient temperature. Drug resistance in infectious diseases developed by bacteria and fungi is an important issue since it is necessary to further develop novel compounds with biological activity that counteract this problem. In addition, new pharmaceutical compounds with lower secondary effects to treat cancer are needed. Coordination compounds appear to be accessible and promising alternatives aiming to overcome these problems. In this review, we summarize the recent literature on coordination compounds based on nitrobenzoic acid (NBA) as a ligand, its derivatives, and other nitro-containing ligands, which are widely employed owing to their versatility. Additionally, an analysis of crystallographic data is presented, unraveling the coordination preferences and the most effective crystallization methods to grow crystals of good quality. This underscores the significance of elucidating crystalline structures and utilizing computational calculations to deepen the comprehension of the electronic properties of coordination complexes. This article discusses the chronology of the different stages that determined the expansion of the inquisitorial jurisdiction over the Jews between the late twelfth century and 1376. Its fundamental goal is to inquire about the facts and responses that turned the Jews into potential targets for inquisitors. I will hold a theoretical perspective--no use-case will be addressed--aiming to describe the self-perception that the medieval inquisition had of its attributions. Introduction: hemoglobinopathies are autosomal recessive hereditary diseases caused by quantitative or qualitative alterations in the globin chains. Neonatal screening allows their detection. Objective: to report on the birth prevalence of hemoglobinopathies in a private hospital seven years after its implementation. Material and methods: this is a descriptive study on the results of the screening for hemoglobinopathies performed on all newborns over a seven-year period. Results: of 10,698 newborns studied, 48 were confirmed to have hemoglobinopathy, which gave a rate of 46 per 10,000 (95% CI: 30 to 59). One patient was confirmed with hemoglobin H disease and another at risk for alpha-thalassemia. The rest were heterozygous for structural hemoglobinopathies. Conclusion: although the prevalence of hemoglobinopathy is low, the rate is within what is expected at national and global levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: the neonatal metabolic screen is a tool that allows identifying patients with different diseases, from preclinical stages Objective: to report the birth prevalence of metabolic diseases detected through the expanded neonatal metabolic screening program of a private hospital in Mexico City. Material and methods: cross-sectional and descriptive study, which includes the results of all screening studies performed on newborns, over a seven-year period (2016-2023). Blood samples were taken by puncture between the second and fifth day of life. Rates are presented in cases per 10,000 live births. Results: during the period, 10,442 newborns were studied. A specific disease was identified in 41 (0.4%) patients, while carrier states of different diseases were detected in 77. The diseases diagnosed were: glucose-6 dehydrogenase deficiency (rate 31.6), congenital hypothyroidism (rate 2.8), phenylketonuria (rate 1.9), tyrosinemia (rate 0.95), short-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (rate 0.95), and cystic fibrosis (rate 0.95). Conclusions: the prevalence of diseases detected by neonatal screening obtained in the present study is similar to that previously reported in Mexico, with the exception of glucose 6 dehydrogenase deficiency, which is higher.
