BACKGROUND: The field of robotic-assisted surgery is rapidly growing as many robotic surgical devices are in development and about to enter the market. Currently, there is no universally accepted language for labeling the different robotic systems. To facilitate this communication, we created what is, to our knowledge, the first classification of surgical robotic technologies that organizes and classifies surgical robots used for endoscopy, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. METHODS: We compiled a list of surgical robots intended to be used for endoscopy, laparoscopy, and/or thoracoscopy by searching United States, European, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korean databases for approved devices. Devices showcased at the 2023 Annual Meeting for the Society of Robotic Surgery were added. We also systematically reviewed the literature for any existing surgical robotic classifications or categorizations. We then created a multidisciplinary committee of 8 surgeons and 2 engineers to construct a proposed classification of the devices included in our search. RESULTS: We identified 40 robotic surgery systems intended to be used for endoscopy, laparoscopy and/or thoracoscopy. The proposed classification organizes robotic devices with regard to architecture, port design, and configuration (modular carts, multi-arm integrated cart, table-attachable or arm-table integration). CONCLUSION: This 3-level classification of robotic surgical devices used for endoscopy, laparoscopy and/or thoracoscopy describes important characteristics of robotic devices systematically.

In musculoskeletal and sports medicine, pain has traditionally been linked to tissue injury, often assuming a linear correlation between tissue damage and pain intensity. However, modern pain science has illuminated the complexity of the human pain experience, incorporating psychosocial elements, nervous system sensitization, immune responses, and structural changes in the brain as factors. This contemporary understanding of pain has proven highly beneficial for both clinicians treating individuals in pain and those experiencing pain. Pain neuroscience education (PNE) provides individuals in pain with an understanding of the underlying neurobiology and neurophysiology of their pain experience, which has been shown to result in decreased self-reported pain, reduced disability, the alleviation of fear and fear-avoidance behaviors, diminished pain catastrophizing, and improved movement. Currently, research on PNE predominantly focuses on interventions with individuals with persistent or chronic pain conditions. However, those who experience acute, sub-acute, and perioperative pain also have the potential for elevated levels of fear, fear-avoidance, and pain catastrophizing, indicating potential benefits from PNE. This invited commentary seeks to inform readers about the latest advancements in pain science and propose a conceptual model for delivering PNE in acute pain experiences. Introduction: Identifying key differences between manufacturers' submitted analysis and economic reanalysis by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) is an important step toward understanding reimbursement recommendations. We compared economic values reported in manufacturers' analysis with the CADTH reanalysis and also assessed methodological critiques. Methods: Two reviewers extracted data from the clinical and economic reports in publicly available CADTH reports from 2018 to 2022. We used the Wilcoxon rank-sum test to assess the difference between mean economic values, and the Chi-square test to assess the association between the CADTH critique final recommendations. Results: Of the total submissions, 99.4% included effectiveness critiques, 88.8% included model structure critiques, 69.1% included utility score critiques, and 78.7% included cost critiques. The median incremental cost-utility ratio (ICUR) in the manufacturers' analyses was $138,658/quality-adjusted life-year (QALY), 2.5-fold lower than the CADTH's reanalysis at $380,251/QALY (p < 0.001). The median CADTH reanalysis for 3-year budget impact analysis (BIA) was $4,575,102, which was 27% higher than the manufacturers' submitted 3-year BIA (p < 0.001). CADTH requested a price reduction for 95% of all submissions, and the median price reduction request was 63.5%. In 2021 and 2022, the willingness-to-pay threshold identified in CADTH reports remained constant at $50,000 per QALY gained for all medications. Conclusion: There was high frequency of CADTH critiques on manufacturers' submissions in all four aspects of economic submissions: effectiveness, cost, utility score and structure. We observed a higher median incremental cost and lower median incremental QALYs in the CADTH reanalysis compared with the manufacturers' submissions. The resulting higher ICUR in the CADTH reanalysis often leads to a recommendation that the manufacturer needs to reduce its price. Predicting abnormalities of wearable medical devices plays a very important role in saving the lives and health of patients. This importance has opened new horizons for researchers with the development of newer algorithms. The long-term memory algorithm (LSTM) is one of the most important methods that are a special type of recurrent neural network (RNN) that has a high ability in this field and greatly increases the accuracy of correct and incorrect prediction of these abnormalities. In the current research, by using this algorithm and taking into account different parameters, the anomalies related to the sensors of the research field were determined. The results showed that there are influential parameters in the construction of this architecture, which include 3 very important factors: the number of neurons in the LSTM layer, the batch size, and the activation function. Also, the LSTM architecture together with the Dropout layer, with parameters Batch size = N = 128 and Tanh activation function shows a better performance and the lowest amount of error (MAPE) as well as the amount of the calculated mean square error (RMSE) in determining the anomaly. have sensors in the medical field. Investigations related to the results of 16 repetitions of optimization also showed that the process of reducing errors in the correct and incorrect identification of anomalies in the training phase has reached its lowest level with the increase in the number of tests, which shows the optimality and appropriateness of the work process. This study investigates the adoption of indoor air quality (IAQ) management technologies in Germany and Portugal, focusing on the common and differentiating factors influencing individuals' motivations and the perceived health impacts of these technologies. Utilizing a model based on the protection motivation theory, we surveyed 800 participants (400 from each country) to understand how their perceptions of the risks associated with poor IAQ and their evaluations of the effectiveness and costs of technologies like air purifiers and sensors drive the adoption intention of these technologies and well‐being of individuals. To estimate the complex relationships in our model, we employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM). Our model explains nearly 50% of the variance in well‐being for both countries. The results revealed significant differences in the factors driving technology adoption: Germans are primarily motivated by individual efficacy and personal responsibility with the people close to them. Regarding the similarities, participants from both countries value the technology's effectiveness in improving IAQ and do not see being vulnerable to health issues derived from poor IAQ as a motivator. These insights highlight the need for strategies that are tailored to specific cultural and national contexts to promote the adoption of IAQ management technologies, aiming to enhance IAQ and public health outcomes. Nuclear Medicine is witnessing a revolution across a large spectrum of patient care applications, hardware, software and novel radiopharmaceuticals. We propose to offer a framework of the nuclear medicine practice of the future that incorporates multiple novelties and coined as the NEW (nu) Clear medicine. Background: This correlative study aimed to examine how the different primary care models (physicians in solo practice, physicians in collaborative practice, physicians and nurse practitioners in collaborative practice, after-hours clinics, community centers, or emergency rooms) were associated with their capability to offer timely access to their patients. The data collected from the primary care provider's perspective was to complete the New Brunswick Health Council results on patients' perspective. Methods: A convenience sample of 120 primary care providers (33 physicians in solo practice, 33 physicians in collaborative practice, 27 providers in collaborative practice with nurse practitioners, 2 providers working in after-hours clinics, and 10 providers in Emergency departments) responded to an online survey about their primary care models and accessibility. We used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software to run correlations, independent t-tests and Fisher's exact tests to compare timely access to care between variable groups. Results: A positive correlation was observed between patient load (or the number of patients under a primary care provider's practice), age and years of experience. However, the patient load did not translate to more timely access to care. However, a statistically significant difference (p = 0.032) was observed when primary care providers kept appointment slots available for daily urgent requests. When a primary care provider booked all available appointment slots, only 85% of them could offer timely appointments (in 5 days or less), compared to 97% who could deliver it when appointment slots were left open in their daily schedule. The primary care model (solo vs. collaboration), the use of health technologies and the type of provider did not significantly influence timely access to care. In contrast, the primary care providers who reported teleworking (or working remotely) were less likely to offer timely access to care. Conclusion: Timely access to care is not always available to patients, even those with a primary care provider. Certain organizational practices may improve access to care and should be integrated into primary care in New Brunswick and elsewhere in Canada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Robotic-assisted technologies have been developed to increase surgical precision and reduce surgical variability in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Several different robotic systems have been introduced in the last decade for TKA. The DePuy Synthes VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution (VRAS) is an imageless system designed to eliminate the need for preoperative CT scans and is one of the latest entrants in the rapidly evolving field of robotic technology in TKA. This study compared the clinical and economic outcomes associated with VRAS and other robotic-assisted technologies for primary TKA. Methods: A retrospective cohort study using the Premier Healthcare Database included patients who underwent primary TKA with VRAS or other robotic-assisted technologies from January 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023. The primary outcome for the study was hospital follow-up visits (revisits) within 90 days post-TKA. Secondary outcomes included readmission and revision rates within 90 days post-TKA, operating room time, length of stay, discharge status and hospital costs. Cohorts were balanced using propensity score fine stratification, and generalized linear models were constructed to evaluate outcomes. Results: This study included 827 VRAS TKA patients and 16,428 TKA patients treated with other robotic-assisted technologies. The 90-day all-cause and knee-related revisit rates were significantly lower for VRAS than for other robotic-assisted technologies (all-cause 13.9% vs. 22.8% and knee-related 2.8% vs. 5.4%, respectively; p value < 0.01). The all-cause and knee-related 90-day readmission rates were also lower for VRAS, although the differences were not statistically significant. The 90-day revision rates were similar for VRAS and other robotic-assisted technologies (0.48% vs. 0.45%), as was the operating room time (138 vs. 137 min). The 90-day knee-related cost for the VRAS cohort was $15,048 compared to $16,867 for other robotic technologies. Conclusions: This database study demonstrated that early postoperative revisit rates and total cost of care are lower for VRAS than for all other robotic-assisted technologies for TKA, while operating room time and discharge status were similar. Immuno-positron emission tomography (immunoPET) enables imaging of specific targets that play a role in targeted therapy and immunotherapy, such as antigens on cell membranes, targets in the disease microenvironment, or immune cells. The most common immunoPET applications use a monoclonal antibody labeled with a relatively long-lived positron emitter such as 89Zr (T1/2 = 78.4 h), but smaller antibody-based constructs labeled with various other positron emitting radionuclides are also being investigated. This molecular imaging technique can thus guide the development of new drugs and may have a pivotal role in selecting patients for a particular therapy. In early phase immunoPET trials, multiple imaging time points are used to examine the time-dependent biodistribution and to determine the optimal imaging time point, which may be several days after tracer injection due to the slow kinetics of larger molecules. Once this has been established, usually only one static scan is performed and semi-quantitative values are reported. However, total PET uptake of a tracer is the sum of specific and nonspecific uptake. In addition, uptake may be affected by other factors such as perfusion, pre-/co-administration of the unlabeled molecule, and the treatment schedule. This article reviews imaging methodologies used in immunoPET studies and is divided into two parts. The first part summarizes the vast majority of clinical immunoPET studies applying semi-quantitative methodologies. The second part focuses on a handful of studies applying pharmacokinetic models and includes preclinical and simulation studies. Finally, the potential and challenges of immunoPET quantification methodologies are discussed within the context of the recent technological advancements provided by long axial field of view PET/CT scanners. Wearables offer a promising solution for enhancing remote monitoring (RM) of heart failure (HF) patients by tracking key physiological parameters. Despite their potential, their clinical integration faces challenges due to the lack of rigorous evaluations. This review aims to summarize the current evidence and assess the readiness of wearables for clinical practice using the Medical Device Readiness Level (MDRL). A systematic search identified 99 studies from 3112 found articles, with only eight being randomized controlled trials. Accelerometery was the most used measurement technique. Consumer-grade wearables, repurposed for HF monitoring, dominated the studies with most of them in the feasibility testing stage (MDRL 6). Only two of the described wearables were specifically designed for HF RM, and received FDA approval. Consequently, the actual impact of wearables on HF management remains uncertain due to limited robust evidence, posing a significant barrier to their integration into HF care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Application of data-driven strategies may support veterinarians' decision-making, benefitting pig disease prevention and control. However, little is known about veterinarians' need for data utilisation to support their decision-making process. The current study used qualitative methods, specifically focus group discussions, to explore veterinarians' views on data utilisation and their need for data tools in relation to pig health and welfare management in Spain, the Netherlands, and Ireland. Results: Generally, veterinarians pointed out the potential benefits of using technology for pig health and welfare management, but data is not yet structurally available to support their decision-making. Veterinarians pointed out the challenge of collecting, recording, and accessing data in a consistent and timely manner. Besides, the reliability, standardisation, and the context of data were identified as important factors affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of data utilisation by veterinarians. A user-friendly, adaptable, and integrated data tool was regarded as potentially helpful for veterinarians' daily work and supporting their decision-making. Specifically, veterinarians, particularly independent veterinary practitioners, noted a need for easy access to pig information. Veterinarians such as those working for integrated companies, corporate veterinarians, and independent veterinary practitioners expressed their need for data tools that provide useful information to monitor pig health and welfare in real-time, to visualise the prevalence of endemic disease based on a shared report between farmers, veterinarians, and other professional parties, to support decision-making, and to receive early warnings for disease prevention and control. Conclusions: It is concluded that the management of pig health and welfare may benefit from data utilisation if the quality of data can be assured, the data tools can meet veterinarians' needs for decision-making, and the collaboration of sharing data and using data between farmers, veterinarians, and other professional parties can be enhanced. Background: Africa, specifically the Sub-Saharan region, has had numerous medical technology clinical trials to address the various healthcare challenges around infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and nutritional disorders it is facing. Medical device clinical trials provide performance data in terms of safety, efficacy, and efficiency, which is a requirement before commercialization. Key players such as academicians, governments, international organizations, and funders collaborate to drive these trials, but their growth in Africa remains slower compared to other parts of the globe. This paper aims to evaluate the number of medical device clinical trials conducted in different African countries that are registered on the clinicaltrials.gov website. Methods: Data on medical device clinical trials was mined from clinicaltrials.gov website accessed on 22nd September, 2022. The data extracted was analyzed and cleaned in Microsoft Excel and R. Countries were grouped into regions and descriptive statistical analyses for each region were done. Additionally, frequency distributions were also generated and no inferential statistical tests were performed, as the primary focus of this analysis was to describe the distribution of medical conditions across regions. Results: Thirty-one African countries had registered medical device clinical trials on the website with the majority taking place in Egypt and South Africa. Medical device trials for heart related issues took longer to complete compared to other conditions. Malaria, HIV, and male circumcision related device trials were mainly conducted in Eastern and Southern Africa while trials related to dental, fertility, and obesity were concentrated in Northern Africa. Female reproductive health issues were studied equally across all regions. Some African countries did not have any trials registered on clinicaltrials.gov website. Around the world, the adoption of digital technologies in health care has accelerated considerably in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the emergence of the pandemic, China had already embarked on a private sector, technology enterprise-led creation of an innovative internet health care ecosystem, which has dramatically transformed China's health care landscape. In this article, we describe the evolution of China's internet health market, focusing on internet telemedicine. We trace its early origins with the establishment of information networks in the 1980s, to the emergence of a fast-growing internet health market in the 2010s that leveraged the capabilities of technology enterprises in e-commerce, logistics, and payment systems. Private health care platforms have played a central role throughout this transformative process. The supplyside of the market has a unique public-private mix structure, with the coexistence of public and private internet hospitals, and with the majority of telemedicine services provided by public hospital doctors working on private platforms in a dual practice capacity. We conclude with a discussion of the prospects of internet telemedicine, including how it should be optimized and harnessed to improve China's health system. Mobile health technologies enable continuous, quantitative assessment of mobility and gait in real-world environments, facilitating early diagnoses of gait disorders, disease progression monitoring, and prediction of adverse events like falls. Traditionally, mobile gait assessment predominantly relied on body-fixed sensors positioned at the feet or lower trunk. Here, we investigate the potential of an algorithm utilizing an ear-worn motion sensor for spatiotemporal segmentation of gait patterns. We collected 3D acceleration profiles from the ear-worn sensor during varied walking speeds in 53 healthy adults. Temporal convolutional networks were trained to detect stepping sequences and predict spatial relations between steps. The resulting algorithm, mEar, accurately detects initial and final ground contacts (F1 score of 99% and 91%, respectively). It enables the determination of temporal and spatial gait cycle characteristics (among others, stride time and stride length) with good to excellent validity at a precision sufficient to monitor clinically relevant changes in walking speed, stride-to-stride variability, and side asymmetry. This study highlights the ear as a viable site for monitoring gait and proposes its potential integration with in-ear vital-sign monitoring. Oximeters have significantly evolved since their invention and are essential for monitoring chronic diseases in home care. However, commercial models can present an economic barrier. Therefore, we conducted a review of the use of low-cost pulse oximeters in the home care of patients with respiratory diseases. Our review included studies addressing oxygen saturation and heart rate monitoring in adults, focusing on the use of portable devices. Our search identified advances in vital signs monitoring that could provide accessible solutions for non-clinical settings. Although there are challenges related to clinical validation and accuracy, these oximeters may improve medical care, particularly in resource-limited areas. As a result, the accessibility of these devices opens up new possibilities for patients with chronic respiratory diseases in home care, enabling regular self-monitoring and increasing control over their health. In the last few decades, major progress has been made in the medical field; in particular, new treatments and advanced health technologies allow for considerable improvements in life expectancy and, more broadly, in quality of life. As a consequence, the number of elderly people is expected to increase in the following years. This trend, along with the need to improve the independence of frail people, has led to the development of unobtrusive solutions to monitor daily activities and provide feedback in case of risky situations and falls. Monitoring devices based on radar sensors represent a possible approach to tackle postural analysis while preserving the person's privacy and are especially useful in domestic environments. This work presents an innovative solution that combines millimeter-wave radar technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to detect different types of postures: a series of algorithms and neural network methodologies are evaluated using experimental acquisitions with healthy subjects. All methods produce very good results according to the main parameters evaluating performance; the long short-term memory (LSTM) and GRU show the most consistent results while, at the same time, maintaining reduced computational complexity, thus providing a very good candidate to be implemented in a dedicated embedded system designed to monitor postures. Neural recording systems play a crucial role in comprehending the intricacies of the brain and advancing treatments for neurological disorders. Within these systems, the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) serves as a fundamental component, converting the electrical signals from the brain into digital data that can be further processed and analyzed by computing units. This research introduces a novel nonlinear ADC designed specifically for spike sorting in biomedical applications. Employing MOSFET varactors and voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), this ADC exploits the nonlinear capacitance properties of MOSFET varactors, achieving a parabolic quantization function that digitizes the noise with low resolution and the spikes with high resolution, effectively suppressing the background noise present in biomedical signals. This research aims to develop a reconfigurable, nonlinear voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO)-based ADC, specifically designed for implantable neural recording systems used in neuroprosthetics and brain–machine interfaces. The proposed design enhances the signal-to-noise ratio and reduces power consumption, making it more efficient for real-time neural data processing. By improving the performance and energy efficiency of these devices, the research contributes to the development of more reliable medical technologies for monitoring and treating neurological disorders. The quantization step of the ADC spans from 44.8 mV in the low-amplitude range to 1.4 mV in the high-amplitude range. The circuit was designed and simulated utilizing a 180 nm CMOS process; however, no physical prototype has been fabricated at this stage. Post-layout simulations confirm the expected performance. Simple Summary: Salivary gland tumors (SGTs) are rare and complex, making them difficult to diagnose and treat. This work focuses on the role of exosomes, extracellular vesicles secreted by almost all cell types, in the development and progression of SGT. Exosomes are crucial in cell-to-cell communication and play significant roles in tumor biology, including modulating the tumor environment, aiding metastasis, and affecting immune responses. A better understanding of exosome biology can lead to their use as biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis, as well as targets for treatment, potentially transforming SGT management and improving patient outcomes. Exosome-based liquid biopsies could offer non-invasive, real-time diagnostics and enhance patient care through precision medicine. This review explores the advancements in salivary exosome analysis, highlighting its potential for non-invasive cancer detection and the development of innovative diagnostic techniques. They play multifaceted roles in tumor biology, including modulating the tumor microenvironment, promoting metastasis, and influencing immune responses. Results: This review focuses on the role of exosomes in SGT, hypothesizing that novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches can be developed by exploring the mechanisms through which exosomes influence tumor occurrence and progression. Introduction: The use of portable ultrasound equipment in emergency medicine has shown the capacity to greatly improve patient care in the swiftly changing field. This research evaluates the influence of the Butterfly POCUS device on patient contentment in the Emergency Department at Jordan University Hospital. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 98 patients to examine their satisfaction levels after undergoing an ultrasound examination. We then evaluated these levels in relation to demographic and clinical characteristics. Results: Seventy eight percent of the patients expressed a high level of satisfaction with their evaluation. This satisfaction level was consistent across all patient demographics, with no notable differences. Significantly, there was a clear correlation between greater satisfaction levels and higher first pain ratings, indicating that the technology effectively addresses patient concerns and enhances the diagnostic experience. Background & Objective: Today, blockchain technology presents a new framework that can help address some challenges facing health and medical education. Accordingly, there is a growing interest in using this important technology, especially among medical educators. Looking towards the future of educational technology and considering the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, medical education experts are expected to accept blockchain technology widely. This study aims to investigate all aspects related to the application of blockchain in medical education. Material & Methods: The study was conducted through a PRISMA systematic review of 10 databases, namely Scopus, Web of Science, Eric, Wiley Online Library, ProQuest, Springer, Noormags, Magiran, and Irandoc, in December 2022, and was updated in February 2023. By utilizing the strategies of this systematic review, a total of 980 related articles were identified, of which 187 were selected. After screening and criteria were applied, 18 relevant articles were selected to complete the research. Results: The results show that the application of blockchain technology in medical education has the most significant impact in the two sectors of education and healthcare. In health and treatment, blockchain technology plays a crucial role in registering patients' treatment records, storing treatment information, and ensuring the security and durability of information. In medical education, blockchain technology is utilized to issue educational certificates, enhance credibility, offer cloud storage space, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning. The trend in research methods is shifting towards mixed methods. Vascularity plays a pivotal role in the progression of breast lesions and may be associated with their aggressiveness and likelihood of being malignant. Contrast-enhanced imaging techniques are necessary to evaluate vascularity due to the limited sensitivity of conventional color Doppler techniques, in which motion artifacts are eliminated using wall filters. However, in this process, low-flow signals from small vessels also get removed unintentionally. Advancements in technology have revolutionized the way ultrasound images are generated, resulting in tremendous improvements in Doppler imaging techniques. The new, ultrasound-based noncontrast microvascular imaging techniques overcome the limitations of conventional Doppler, and are highly sensitive for detecting microvessels and low flow. The resultant high Doppler sensitivity leads to detection of vascularity in more breast lesions. With people's concern for health and the development of medical technology, medical products for children are gradually appearing in pharmacies and online stores. However, the appearance of most children's household medical products tends to meet the needs of adults, which leads to low acceptance of medical products. This study aimed to explore 10- to 16-year-old children's visual and tactile perception of different materials by researching the relationship between the psychological quantities of visual and tactile perception and the physical quantities of the material surface. Based on the theory of kansei engineering, we measured the physical quantities of nine materials used in insulin syringe products and administered a perceptual questionnaire test for children. By correlating subjective perceptions with the physical attributes of the materials' surfaces, we determined a strong correlation between the visual and tactile psychological properties and the properties of the materials' surfaces. Children clearly perceive materials, and materials with lower roughness can elicit calmness, while materials with higher gloss elicit negative emotions. Background: When clinically effective, cost-effective health interventions are not fully implemented in clinical practice, population health suffers. Economic factors are among the most commonly cited reasons for suboptimal implementation. Despite this, implementation and economic evaluation are not routinely performed in conjunction with one another. This review sought to identify and describe what methods are available for researchers to incorporate implementation within economic evaluation, how these methods differ, when they should be used, and where gaps remain. Methods: We conducted a scoping review using systematic methods. A pearl-growing approach was used to identify studies. References and citations were identified using Web of Science and Scopus. We included for review any study that contained terms relating to economic evaluation and a series of implementation-related terms in the title or abstract. The search was conducted and validated using two independent researchers. Results: Our review identified 42 unique studies that included a methodology for combining implementation and economic evaluation. The methods identified could be categorized into four broad themes: (i) policy cost–effectiveness approach (11 studies), (ii) value of information and value of implementation approach (16 studies), (iii) mixed methods approach (6 studies), and (iv) costing approach (9 studies). We identified a trend over time from methods that adopted the policy cost–effectiveness approach to methods that considered the trade-off between the value of information and value of implementation. More recently, mixed methods approaches to incorporate economic evaluation and implementation have been developed, alongside methods to define, measure and cost individual components of the implementation process for use in economic evaluation. Conclusion: Our review identified a range of methods currently available for researchers considering implementation alongside economic evaluation. There is no single method or tool that can incorporate all the relevant issues to fully incorporate implementation within an economic evaluation. Instead, there are a suite of tools available, each of which can be used to answer a specific question relating to implementation. Background: Electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) is an essential technology in the modern health system. This technology has made many changes in the prescription process, which have advantages and disadvantages and have created opportunities for transforming the health system. This study aimed to investigate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the e-prescribing system implemented in Iran from the physician's viewpoint. Methods: This phenomenological qualitative study was conducted in 2022. The participants were 15 Iranian specialist physicians working at Urmia University of Medical Sciences, selected purposively and deliberately. Data was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews using an interview guide comprising 16 questions. Interviews were conducted until data saturation was reached. The audio data was transcribed into text and analyzed using the thematic analysis. To ensure the validity and reliability of the findings, the criteria introduced by Lincoln and Guba were employed. Results: The results of this study showed that the e-prescribing system executed in Iran has diverse and multidimensional strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In the strengths section, the analysis of the interviews led to the extraction of semantic units in the categories of prescription process, prescriber, patient, technical, economic, communication, and insurance. Also, the weaknesses in the three categories of the prescriber, patient, and technical were debatable. The opportunities extracted from the narratives of the interviewees were placed in four categories including technical, national macro policies, Ministry of Health macro-policies, and socio-cultural issues. Finally, the discussed threats are classified into two technical and macro policies of the Ministry of Health categories. On the other hand, technical issues played an effective role in all aspects of the SWOT model. Conclusion: The e-prescribing system in Iran has strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. An overarching factor across all aspects of the SWOT model was technical infrastructure. A robust technical infrastructure is considered a strength and an opportunity for the growth of the electronic prescribing system in Iran. Background: Abortion and its complications have always been associated with challenges such as the lack of awareness, high cost of receiving in-person services, lack of access to the skilled healthcare workers, distance from healthcare centers in remote areas, and cultural sensitivities. Therefore, the use of mobile health technology in post-abortion care has been suggested. This study aimed to investigate factors influencing the acceptance and use of mhealth technology in post-abortion care. Method: A mixed-methods study was completed in 2023. Initially, a literature review was conducted. Then, a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire was designed based on the results of the literature review. The research participants were gynecologists (n = 24), midwives (n = 38), and women who had experience of abortion (n = 183). Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The findings revealed that the participants had different opinions about the importance of motivating and inhibiting factors which included individual, technical, economic, organizational, and ethico-legal aspects. It seems that the individual, organizational, economic, and ethico-legal motivating factors as well as the ethico-legal inhibiting factors were more important than other factors and had higher mean values. In addition, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean values of gynecologists and patients regarding the individual motivating (P = 0.014) and technical inhibiting factors (P = 0.016). The gynecologists' opinions regarding the technical motivating factors were also significantly different from midwives (P = 0.044) and patients (P = 0.010). Conclusion: Multiple factors may influence the acceptance and use of mhealth technology in post-abortion care. Therefore, mhealth service developers must consider these factors to improve the quality of services and increase technology adoption. This will lead to saving costs, improving health, reducing abortion complications, and ultimately improving quality of life for women. Background: Telehealth uses Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in distance health-related activities between professionals, managers, and patients of health services. This cross-sectional study compared the ICT infrastructure available in Brazilian Basic Health Units (BHU) for telehealth actions, along with evaluation cycles of the National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care (PMAQ-AB). Methods: Data from the second and third cycles of the PMAQ-AB were used. A total of 22,021 BHUs were evaluated concerning the availability of computers, cameras, stereo boxes, microphones, printers, television, and internet available. The presence of each ICT equipment assigned a score to each BHU. The sum of these scores assigned a final score to the BHU and was used for comparison among different Brazilian regions. The data were analyzed descriptively and by Wilcoxon test (p ≤ 0.05) using SPSS v. 25. Results: The increase in the median number of ICT equipment was statistically significant in the BHU in Brazil and the Brazilian regions (p < 0.001). The South, Southeast, and Midwest regions had the highest median scores in both cycles. Conclusions: The availability of ICT equipment for telehealth actions in BHU improved over the PMAQ-AB cycles, with differences in the ICT structure between Brazilian regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Entrepreneurial ecosystems in various geographical areas of the world are often compared in the context of entrepreneurship research. There are far fewer comparative studies on different types of ecosystems. In this study, a traditional entrepreneurial ecosystem based in Canada is compared with a digital entrepreneurial ecosystem specializing in life sciences, in Switzerland, bridging the gap between both and yielding previously unknown insights. The aim is twofold: to decipher both the differences and the similarities between the two models and to describe the predominant type of entrepreneurship in each case. The method consisted of a quantitative study of socio-economic data in combination with the administration of a qualitative analysis of interviews with—industry, government, and university—experts with links to one or the other ecosystem. The main findings showed that the traditional ecosystem had varied entrepreneurial support, public financial support, and collaborative networks between SMEs and start-ups, whereas in the specialized digital ecosystem, business support tended to be sector-specific with private financial support and networks emerging between multinationals and start-ups. Our study contributes to entrepreneurship research by showing that high-tech industries such as biotechnology and medical technology manage to go beyond a purely digital approach in digital ecosystems. The generic nature of the high-tech industries within the traditional ecosystem was the main driver of traditional entrepreneurship, while the sector-specific approaches of the industries within the specialized digital ecosystems were shown to drive innovative entrepreneurship. Although preventive health technologies are commonly considered as enhancing consumer wellbeing, little is known about their unintended consequences. This paper explores the relationship between consumer engagement (CE) with preventive health technologies and wellbeing, to best understand when engagement is beneficial‐versus detrimental‐to consumer wellbeing. A thematic analysis of 30 in‐depth interviews with users of such technologies reveal that (1) consumers engage with preventive health technologies based on a variety of health goals, (2) specific engagement trajectories result from those contrasting consumer health goals, and (3) the beneficial versus detrimental role of CE with preventive health technologies in consumer wellbeing is conditioned by the type of trajectories consumers engage in. This paper proposes a nuanced perspective by demonstrating that CE with preventive health technologies can be considered a double‐edged sword for consumer wellbeing. Modern medical technology innovation is a critical safeguard for human health, while a significant number of developing nations are confronted with the challenge of biopharmaceutical technological advancement. To investigate the possible routes of technological advancement, we investigated the impact of the endogenous knowledge spillover effect on firm innovation endeavors. Our research involves a theoretical two-stage R&D game model that is built around the characteristics of pharmaceutical organizations. Theoretical studies elucidated the impact as well as the probable mechanism of the spillover effect. To verify the theoretical study, we conducted econometric analysis using data from the pharmaceutical sector of Chinese enterprise listed on the A-share market. The study's findings indicate that endogenous knowledge spillovers impede organizations' innovation endeavors. This phenomenon may be attributed to the existence of the patent race paradigm and high concentration of enterprises' R&D endeavors in specific areas. Additional examination of heterogeneity demonstrates that private firms, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and non-high-tech enterprises experience a larger adverse impact from the spillover effect. Hence, we suggest implementing "loser's subsidies", reallocating R&D resources, and making modifications to competition policies as measures to enhance the innovation performance of biopharmaceutical markets. OBJECTIVES: During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical education programs were challenged to optimize learning while balancing social interaction with exposure risk. In response, our internal medicine (IM) residency program transitioned to "simulcast" educational sessions. In simulcast sessions, multiple small groups of learners met in person in separate rooms and connected to the large-group session via videoconferencing. This qualitative study describes IM residents' perceptions regarding the advantages and disadvantages of learning in simulcast compared to virtual and in-person settings during the pandemic. METHODS: Categorical IM residents at Penn State during the academic year 2020-2021 were invited to participate. Eligible residents participated in one 30-min virtual, semistructured focus group. We used inductive thematic coding to analyze resident responses. RESULTS: Forty-eight percent (n = 29/60) of invited residents participated in focus groups. In the simulcast setting, participants felt more accountability to participate in their small groups compared to a larger group or virtual setting. Educational experiences varied based upon facilitator skill level. Overall, in-person settings were preferred to virtual, when possible, due to increased social connection. Respondents identified educator enthusiasm and presentation quality as key to engagement regardless of setting. CONCLUSION: Residents had variable responses to the simulcast setting based upon their comfort with participation by group size, desire for social connection, and perception of teaching strategies. The key identified pitfalls to simulcast teaching were resident discomfort in small groups, heterogeneous learning experience, lack of engagement, and technology challenges. These pitfalls can be mitigated through strategic distribution of learners in groups, trained facilitators, and interactive teaching modalities. Given that simulcast and mixed (simulcast, virtual, and in-person) teaching settings are here to stay postpandemic, anticipating pitfalls and creating adaptable educational content that translates in multiple settings is crucial. Background: In China, Internet-Based Sharing Nursing Service (IBSNS) is a new mode of nursing service delivery that has been in practice for over five years, which enables nurses to provide care at clients' home. However, the acceptance and associated factors of IBSNS among caregivers of elderly with chronic diseases who are the major clients of the service were unclear. Aim: To explore the acceptance of IBSNS and its associated factors among Chinese caregivers of elderly patient with chronic diseases based on the modified Technology Acceptance Model (mTAM). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February 2023 to March 2023. Caregivers of hospitalized elderly with chronic diseases were recruited using convenience sampling method from three hospitals in Beijing, China. Data were obtained from self-reports of participants. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze data. Results: A total of 65.1% of the caregivers had neutral to weakly positive behavioral intention of IBSNS use. The mTAM model was supported with good model fit. Perceived ease of use was positively associated with perceived usefulness. Both perceived usefulness and perceived security were positively associated with attitude, consequently, attitude was associated with behavioral intention. Conclusions: Improving the ease of use, security, and usefulness may be helpful to increase the positive attitude towards IBSNS and behavioral intention of using IBSNS, which provides valuable insights that can help healthcare providers improve the integration of technology in patient care, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and more efficient healthcare systems. Managing genetic disease using medically assisted reproductive technology is increasingly promoted as a feasible option, given revolutionary advances in genomics. Far less attention has been directed to the issue of whether there is equitable access to this option. Context and circumstance determine equitable access; however, reporting has drawn overwhelmingly from affluent Anglo-western populations in developed countries. The experiences of poorer, less educated subpopulations within affluent countries and populations in less developed countries are underreported. The ability of consumers to understand the opportunities and risks of medically assisted reproductive technology is likewise not well described in the literature despite significant technological complexity and evidence that genetic disease may be overrepresented within some disadvantaged population groups. Equity is achieved by identifying barriers and allocating appropriate resources to enable understanding and access. In the case of utilising medically assisted technology, social and power relationships, regulations, and the presumptions of authority figures and policymakers reduce equitable access. Physical or cultural marginalisation from mainstream health services may result in reduced access to genetic and prenatal testing, in-vitro fertilisation and genetic screening of embryos necessary for medically assisted reproduction. Cost and regulatory frameworks can likewise limit opportunities to engage with services. Moreover, the quality of the information provided to prospective users of the technology and how it is received governs understanding of prevention and inhibits adequately informed choice. Best practice care and adequately informed choice can only be achieved by conscientiously attending to these accessibility issues. Key limitations include small sample sizes, insufficient security measures, practical issues with wearable sensors, and reliance on internet connectivity in areas with poor network infrastructure. Background: Graded diagnosis and treatment, referral, and expert consultations between medical institutions all require cross domain access to patient medical information to support doctors' treatment decisions, leading to an increase in cross domain access among various medical institutions within the medical consortium. However, patient medical information is sensitive and private, and it is essential to control doctors' cross domain access to reduce the risk of leakage. Access control is a continuous and long-term process, and it first requires verification of the legitimacy of user identities, while utilizing control policies for selection and management. After verifying user identity and access permissions, it is also necessary to monitor unauthorized operations. Therefore, the content of access control includes authentication, implementation of control policies, and security auditing. Unlike the existing focus on authentication and control strategy implementation in access control, this article focuses on the control based on access log security auditing for doctors who have obtained authorization to access medical resources. This paper designs a blockchain based doctor intelligent cross domain access log recording system, which is used to record, query and analyze the cross domain access behavior of doctors after authorization. Through DBSCAN clustering analysis of doctors' cross domain access logs, we find the abnormal phenomenon of cross domain access, and build a penalty function to dynamically control doctors' cross domain access process, so as to reduce the risk of Data breach. Finally, through comparative analysis and experiments, it is shown that the proposed cross domain access control model for medical consortia based on DBSCAN and penalty function has good control effect on the cross domain access behavior of doctors in various medical institutions of the medical consortia, and has certain feasibility for the cross domain access control of doctors. Background: The development of novel medical imaging technologies and treatment procedures hinges on the availability of accurate and versatile phantoms. This paper presents a cost-effective approach for creating anthropomorphic abdominal phantoms. Methods: This study proposes a cost-effective method using 3D printing and readily available materials (beeswax, plaster, and epoxy resin) to create high-fidelity anthropomorphic abdominal phantoms. The three-dimensionally printed phantoms exhibited X-ray attenuation properties closely matching those of human tissues, with measured Hounsfield unit (HU) values of −115.41 ± 20.29 HU for fat, 65.61 ± 18.06 HU for muscle, and 510 ± 131.2 HU for bone. These values were compared against patient images and a commercially available phantom, and no statistically significant difference was observed in fat tissue simulation (p = 0.428). Differences were observed for muscle and bone tissues, in which the 3D-printed phantom demonstrated higher HU values compared with patient images (p < 0.001). The 3D-printed phantom's bone simulation was statistically like that of the commercially available phantom (p = 0.063). Conclusion: This method offers a cost-effective, accessible, and customizable alternative for abdominal phantoms. Several technologies have been introduced into neurorehabilitation programs to enhance traditional treatment of individuals with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Their effectiveness has been widely investigated, but their adoption has not been properly quantified. The aim of this study is to assess the distribution of conventional (Treatment As Usual—TAU) and technology-aided (Treatment With Technologies—TWT) treatments conveniently grouped based on different therapeutic goals in a selected SCI unit. Data from 104 individuals collected in 29 months were collected in a custom database and categorized according to both the conventional American Impairment Scale classification and a newly developed Multifactor (MF) clustering approach that considers additional sources of information (the lesion level, the level of independence in the activities of daily living, and the hospitalization duration). Results indicated an average technology adoption of about 30%. Moreover, the MF clusters were less overlapped, and the differences in TWT adoption were more pronounced than in AIS-based clustering. MF clustering was capable of grouping individuals based both on neurological features and functional abilities. In particular, individuals with motor complete injuries were grouped together, whereas individuals with sensorimotor incomplete SCI were collected separately based on the lesion level. As regards TWT adoption, we found that in the case of motor complete SCI, TWT for muscle tone control and modulation was mainly selected (about 90% of TWT), while the other types of TWT were seldom adopted. Even for individuals with incomplete SCI, the most frequent rehabilitation goal was muscle tone modulation (about 75% of TWT), regardless of the AIS level, and technologies to improve walking ability (about 12% of TWT) and balance control (about 10% of TWT) were mainly used for individuals with thoracic or lumbar lesions. Analyzing TAU distribution, we found that the highest adoption of muscle tone modulation strategies was reported in the case of individuals with motor complete SCI (about 42% of TAU), that is, in cases when almost no gait training was pursued (about 1% of TAU). In the case of cervical motor incomplete SCI, compared to thoracic and lumbar incomplete SCI, there was a greater focus on muscle tone control and force recruitment in addition to walking training (38% and 14% of TAU, respectively) than on balance training. Overall, the MF clustering provided more insights than the traditional AIS-based classification, highlighting differences in TWT adoption. These findings suggest that a wider overview that considers both neurological and functional characteristics of individuals after SCI based on a multifactor analysis could enhance the personalization of neurorehabilitation strategies. Background: Anatomical reduction and stable fixation of complex tibial plateau fractures remain challenging in clinical practice. This study examines the efficacy of using 3D printing technology combined with customized plates for treating these fractures. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 22 patients treated with 3D printing and customized plates at the Orthopedic Department of the Central Hospital affiliated with Shenyang Medical College from September 2020 to January 2023. These patients were matched with 22 patients treated with traditional plates with similar baseline characteristics. Patients were divided into an experimental group (3D-printed models and customized plates) and a control group (traditional plates). The control group underwent traditional surgical methods, while the experimental group had a preoperative 3D model and customized plates for surgical planning. We compared baseline characteristics and recorded various indicators, including preoperative preparation time, surgical time, intraoperative blood loss, number of intraoperative fluoroscopies, hospital stay duration, fracture healing time, complications, knee joint range of motion (ROM), Rasmussen anatomical and functional scores, and HSS scores. Results: All surgeries were successful with effective follow-up. The experimental group had shorter surgical time, less intraoperative blood loss, and fewer intraoperative fluoroscopies (P < 0.05). At 6 months and 1 year postoperatively, the experimental group had better knee joint HSS scores than the control group. Preoperative preparation time and total hospital stay were shorter in the control group (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in fracture healing time and follow-up duration between groups. The experimental group showed better knee joint flexion angles (P < 0.05). Rasmussen scores showed no statistical difference between groups (P > 0.05). The incidence of complications was slightly lower in the experimental group but not significantly different. Conclusion: 3D printing technology combined with customized plates for complex tibial plateau fractures enables precise articular surface reduction, significantly shortens surgical time, and reduces intraoperative blood loss. Background: Digital health technologies are increasingly used by healthcare professionals working in pediatric hospital and rehabilitation settings. Multiple factors may affect the implementation and use of digital health technologies in these settings. However, such factors have not been identified in a multidisciplinary, pediatric context. The objective of this study was to describe actual use and to identify the factors that promote or hinder the intention to use digital health technologies (mobile learning applications, virtual/augmented reality, serious games, robotic devices, telehealth applications, computerized assessment tools, and wearables) among pediatric healthcare professionals. Methods: An online survey evaluating opinions, current use, and future intentions to use digital health technologies was completed by 108 professionals at one of Canada's largest pediatric institutes. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare the attitudes of healthcare professionals who intend to increase their use of digital health technologies and those who do not. Linear regression analyses were used to determine predictors of usage success. Results: Healthcare professionals reported mostly using mobile and tablet learning applications (n = 43, 38.1%), telehealth applications (n = 49, 43.4%), and computerized assessment tools (n = 33, 29.2%). Attitudes promoting the intention to increase the use of digital health technologies varied according to technology type. Healthcare professionals who wished to increase their use of digital health technologies reported a more positive attitude regarding benefits in clinical practice and patient care, but were also more critical of potential negative impacts on patient-professional relationships. Ease of use (β = 0.374; p = 0.020) was a significant predictor of more favorable usage success. The range of obstacles encountered was also a significant predictor (β = 0.342; p = 0.032) of less favorable evaluation of usage success. Specific factors that hinder successful usage are lack of training (β = 0.303; p = 0.033) and inadequate infrastructure (β = 0.342; p = 0.032). Conclusions: When working with children, incorporating digital health technologies can be effective for motivation and adherence. However, it is crucial to ensure these tools are implemented properly. The findings of this study underscore the importance of addressing training and infrastructure needs when elaborating technology-specific strategies for multidisciplinary adoption of digital health technologies in pediatric settings. Background: Health professionals need to be prepared for interdisciplinary research collaborations aimed at the development and implementation of medical technology. Expertise is highly domain-specific, and learned by being immersed in professional practice. Therefore, the approaches and results from one domain are not easily understood by experts from another domain. Interdisciplinary collaboration in medical research faces not only institutional, but also cognitive and epistemological barriers. This is one of the reasons why interdisciplinary and interprofessional research collaborations are so difficult. To explain the cognitive and epistemological barriers, we introduce the concept of disciplinary perspectives. Making explicit the disciplinary perspectives of experts participating in interdisciplinary collaborations helps to clarify the specific approach of each expert, thereby improving mutual understanding. Method: We developed a framework for making disciplinary perspectives of experts participating in an interdisciplinary research collaboration explicit. The applicability of the framework has been tested in an interdisciplinary medical research project aimed at the development and implementation of diffusion MRI for the diagnosis of kidney cancer, where the framework was applied to analyse and articulate the disciplinary perspectives of the experts involved. Results: We propose a general framework, in the form of a series of questions, based on new insights from the philosophy of science into the epistemology of interdisciplinary research. We explain these philosophical underpinnings in order to clarify the cognitive and epistemological barriers of interdisciplinary research collaborations. In addition, we present a detailed example of the use of the framework in a concrete interdisciplinary research project aimed at developing a diagnostic technology. This case study demonstrates the applicability of the framework in interdisciplinary research projects. Conclusion: Interdisciplinary research collaborations can be facilitated by a better understanding of how an expert's disciplinary perspectives enables and guides their specific approach to a problem. Implicit disciplinary perspectives can and should be made explicit in a systematic manner, for which we propose a framework that can be used by disciplinary experts participating in interdisciplinary research project. Furthermore, we suggest that educators can explore how the framework and philosophical underpinning can be implemented in HPE to support the development of students' interdisciplinary expertise. Background: Obesity, characterized by excessive fat accumulation, poses a significant public health challenge globally. Recent advancements in medical technology have heralded the emergence of endoscopic bariatric treatments (EBTs) as innovative alternatives to conventional obesity interventions. Despite previous systematic reviews and network meta-analyses, they also highlighted discrepancies in outcomes and efficacy among different EBTs. Here, we will update a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focusing on EBTs and presents a protocol for the reproducibility and transparency. Methods: The core protocol of this study was registered at PROSPERO database (CRD42024514249) on Jan 2024. Core databases including MEDLINE through PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane library will be searched relevant studies, and a systematic review with network meta-analysis will be performed. Two evaluators (EJ Gong and CS Bang) will independently screen the titles and abstracts following the eligibility criteria; (1) RCTs investigated the compared the efficacy of EBTs and controls; (2) studies published in English; and (3) studies in full-text format. We will exclude studies meeting the following criteria; (1) studies that did not report the treatment outcomes, such as percent excess weight loss or percent total body weight loss; (2) case reports and review articles; (3) ineligible research objects, for example, animals or children; and (4) insufficient data regarding treatment outcome. The primary outcomes will be the common efficacy metric found after systematic review of relevant studies, such as percent excess weight loss or percent total body weight loss with a follow-up of at least 6 months. Narrative (descriptive) synthesis is planned and quantitative synthesis will be used if the included studies are sufficiently homogenous. The quality of the identified studies will be assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias assessment tool version 2.0 (ROB 2.0). All the systematic review and network meta-analysis process will be undertaken keeping the principles of the Preferred Reporting Items for a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis for systematic review protocols (PRISMA-P) and PRISMA Extension Statement for Reporting of Systematic Reviews Incorporating Network Meta-analyses of Health Care Interventions (PRISMA-NMA). Discussion: This updated systematic review and network meta-analysis will provide information about comparative efficacy of various EBTs and this will help physicians in the decision-making process for the selection of treatment modalities in the clinical practice. Flexible devices, such as soft bioelectronics and stretchable supercapacitors, have their practical performance limited by electrodes which are desired to have high conductivity and capacitance, outstanding mechanical flexibility and strength, great electrochemical stability, and good biocompatibility. Here, we report a simple and efficient method to synthesize a nanostructured conductive hydrogel to meet such criteria. Specifically, templated by a hyperconnective nanofibrous network from aramid hydrogels, the conducting polymer, polypyrrole, assembles conformally onto nanofibers through in-situ polymerization, generating continuous nanostructured conductive pathways. The resulting conductive hydrogel shows superior conductivity (72 S cm−1) and fracture strength (27.2 MPa). Supercapacitor electrodes utilizing this hydrogel exhibit high specific capacitance (240 F g−1) and cyclic stability. Furthermore, bioelectrodes of patterned hydrogels provide favorable bioelectronic interfaces, allowing high-quality electrophysiological recording and stimulation in physiological environments. Objectives: This study examined the level of technology proficiency amongst healthcare professions students. Additionally, the study provides an evaluation of the pilot implementation, as well as the effect of a 7-module telehealth course on the level of adoption and future use of telehealth amongst future Australian healthcare workforce. Methods: Students from four health-sciences departments at the University of Melbourne, Australia, participated in this pilot study by completing the course and an online questionnaire, which included both structured and open-ended questions. The questionnaire included: 12-items on socio-demographic and Internet utilization; 34-items about acceptance and use of telehealth adapted from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) questionnaire; and 22-items about confidence in using the Internet and ICT, adapted from Technology Proficiency Self-Assessment Questionnaire for 21st Century Learning (TPSA-C-21). Results: The evaluation included 26 students who expressed confidence in their Internet/ICT skills They showed enthusiasm for telehealth and recognized its potential benefits, but also emphasized the value of face-to-face interactions. They requested information on legal and aspects and additional learning. Post-test assessments indicated improvements in overall acceptance and use attitudes towards telehealth and on six dimensions of the UTAUT2 instrument. Participation in the course indicated improvements in students' overall acceptance and use attitudes and on six of the ten dimensions of the UTAUT2 instrument (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This preliminary evaluation indicated that the telehealth course was a positive and enjoyable learning experience for students with appropriate structure and information. The course was successful in improving students' acceptance and use of health technology. The study identified areas in which further development might be required. Surgical robotics application in the field of minimally invasive surgery has developed rapidly and has been attracting increasingly more research attention in recent years. A common consensus has been reached that surgical procedures are to become less traumatic and with the implementation of more intelligence and higher autonomy, which is a serious challenge faced by the environmental sensing capabilities of robotic systems. One of the main sources of environmental information for robots are images, which are the basis of robot vision. In this review article, we divide clinical image into direct and indirect based on the object of information acquisition, and into continuous, intermittent continuous, and discontinuous according to the target-tracking frequency. The characteristics and applications of the existing surgical robots in each category are introduced based on these two dimensions. Our purpose in conducting this review was to analyze, summarize, and discuss the current evidence on the general rules on the application of image technologies for medical purposes. Background: Diabetes is a chronic medical condition with severe complications, mainly caused by unhealthy lifestyles in genetically susceptible individuals. There has been a growing interest in the role of mobile health technologies in achieving better self-efficacy in managing diabetes. This study attempts to assess the impact of a web-based model on improving the diabetes status among Type 2 diabetic patients attending a tertiary care hospital in southern India. Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted among patients with type 2 diabetes attending the outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital in Mysuru, southern India, for 6 months. Diabetes Care (https://www.diabetescare. co.in/), which is an online website that can be used as a risk prediction tool for uncontrolled diabetes and recommends lifestyle changes, was used by 456 diabetes patients for 6 months. We assessed the change in glycosylated haemoglobin levels at the beginning and after 6 months of using the software. Results: The mean HbA1c value at the start of the study was 8.039% ± 1.981. The HbA1c value assessed after 6 months post-intervention showed an improvement of 7.794% ± 1.853 with a mean difference of 0.245. A paired T-test showed a statistically significant association with a P value of 0.049. Conclusions: Evidence from this study suggests that intervention using a webbased model focusing on risk prediction and educational intervention showed an improvement in the diabetic status of the patients with T2DM. Objective: We aimed to investigate the relationship between sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, as well as the utilization of diabetes technologies, with diabetes management in individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Materials and Methods: Our study included 134 cases diagnosed with T1D who were followed for at least 1 year with T1D. Results: Of the cases, 67.2% were using insulin pens as their insulin regimen, while 37.8% were using insulin pumps. The rate of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) usage was 29.9%. The rate of CGM usage was 5% in families with low income levels. Glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level of children with working mothers was found to be higher compared to those with non-working mothers (median 9.2% vs. 8%; P = .009). Cases with 3 or more siblings had higher HbA1c levels compared to those with 2 or fewer siblings (median 8.7% vs. 8.1%; P = .044).The median HbA1c was 8.7% in cases using insulin pens and checking fingerstick blood glucose (SMBG); 8.3% in cases using insulin pumps and SMBG; 7.6% in cases using insulin pens with CGM, and 7.5% in cases using insulin pumps with CGM (P = .003). Conclusion: The utilization of insulin pumps with CGM in T1D cases exhibited lower HbA1c levels. Similarly, even the usage of insulin pens with CGM demonstrated improved diabetes management. Maternal employment and having a higher number of siblings may negatively affect diabetes management due to increased caregiver burden. We believe that personalized healthcare delivery tailored to the individual needs of T1D patients based on family and clinical characteristics could have positive effects on diabetes management.
