Cratylia argentea is a shrub legume native to tropical regions of South America where it is used for animal feed and green manure. In the absence of germination guidelines, the key aim of this study was to define the most suitable temperature for conducting germination and accelerated aging tests. The biochemical attributes of seeds were also assessed. Seeds with 10 % moisture from 4 different seed lots were germinated using the between paper method in a germinator at temperatures of 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C and alternating temperatures of 20/30 °C (16/8 h), with daily counting until germination was stable (seven days without germination). For the accelerated aging test, two temperatures (41 and 45 °C) and six aging periods (0, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 h) for seeds with between 10?40 % moisture content were used. Carbohydrates (%), ethereal extract (%), crude protein (%) and macro and micronutrient contents of the seeds were measured. Results showed that C. argentea seeds consist predominantly of starch (22.67 %) and protein (26.45 %) reserves with a low percentage of lipids. For the germination test, the temperature of 30 °C is recommended, allowing greater percentage and speed of germination, with seedling evaluation at 10 and 20 days. For the accelerated aging test, aging for 48 h at 41 °C is recommended to discriminate C. argentea seed lots in terms of quality. Made available in DSpace on 2022-10-05T18:05:37Z (GMT). O feijão-caupi (Vigna unguiculata), segundo feijão mais cultivado no país, é uma leguminosa comumente produzida na região Norte e Nordeste do Brasil, com alto valor nutritivo e baixo custo de produção. Embalagens a vácuo são alternativas viáveis para diminuição da atividade enzimática e consequente manutenção da qualidade de produtos. Nesse aspecto, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a manutenção da qualidade de variedades de feijão-caupi crioulos da Regional Juruá, armazenados por seis meses. Para o estudo foram utilizadas amostras de feijão-caupi safra 2019, variedades Manteiguinha Branco, Manteiguinha Roxo e Quarentão, procedentes do município de Marechal Thaumaturgo. As variedades foram selecionadas, fracionadas em pacotes de 250 g, embaladas sob vácuo (EV) e de forma tradicional (ET), apenas fechada por selagem simples. Para a avaliação da qualidade foram realizadas análises de composição centesimal e curva de hidratação no tempo zero e aos seis meses de armazenamento. Diante dos resultados conclui-se que o tratamento em embalagem a vácuo é eficiente para manter por mais tempo a umidade, proteínas, lipídios e cinzas das variedades de feijão-caupi estudados. Há diferença no quantitativo de todos os nutrientes para as variedades estudadas. Quarentão é a variedade que obtêm maior velocidade na absorção de água. As maiores diferenças nos percentuais de água absorvidos estão nas primeiras quatro horas de imersão. Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), the second most cultivated bean in the country, is a legume commonly produced in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, with high nutritional value and low production cost. Vacuum packaging is a viable alternative for reducing enzymatic activity and consequently maintaining product quality. In this regard, the objective of this study was to evaluate the maintenance of quality by determining the centesimal composition, hydration curve and quantification of pest insects in varieties of creole cowpea from Regional Juruá, stored for six months. For the study, samples of cowpea 2019 crop, varieties Manteiguinha Branco, Manteiguinha Roxo and Quarentão, from the municipality of Marechal Thaumaturgo, were used. The varieties were selected, divided into 250 g packages under vacuum (EV) and traditionally (ET), only closed by simple sealing. For quality assessment, centesimal composition and hydration curve analyzes were performed at time zero and at six months of storage. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the treatment in vacuum packaging is efficient to keep the moisture, proteins, lipids and ash of the studied cowpea varieties for longer. The amount of nutrients between the varieties is different. Quarentão is the variety that obtains the greatest speed in water absorption. Cratylia argentea (cratília) is a neo-tropical leguminous plant with high resprouting ability, showing great potential as both an animal feed and to fertilize the soil through its N-fixing ability. During scientific expeditions carried out in 2016 to identify and collect germplasm in different states of Brazil, the Terra Ronca State Park (PETeR) stood out as a potential conservation area for this species. There, cratília is well adapted to the dry season, retaining green leaves even during extended dry periods and was found to develop a shrub or climbing habit, depending on light conditions. In the traditional cattle production systems of the region livestock readily consume cratília, making it an important asset for local inhabitants. Based on several populations identified and collected in PETeR, the value of traditional knowledge and use of cratília is discussed as is the potential role of the Park as an in situ conservation unit. Endophytic microorganisms have a wide genetic diversity, being very useful for agriculture, for producing growth regulators and making nutrients available to plants. In this context, this research aimed to isolate and characterize endophytic bacteria from bamboo Guadua sp., in order to evaluate the use of these microorganisms in promoting plant growth in yam plants (Dioscorea rotundata Poir). For this, the macromorphological characteristics of bacterial colonies were studied: shape, borders, consistency, color, brightness. Micromorphological analysis was performed using the Gram method. Biological tests of phosphate solubilization, biological nitrogen fixation and indole acetic acid production were carried out, where the bacteria with the best results were selected to assess the potential to promote the growth of white yam plants. The growth experiment consisted of four treatments: a control (without inoculation) and three treatments with endophytic bacteria, inoculated in pre-acclimated yam plants. Each treatment consisted of 6 repetitions with 5 plants per plot, totaling 30 plants per treatment. The colonies showed similar patterns of morphological characteristics for the three collection sites, with characteristics such as "circular" shape, "entire" border, "creamy" consistency, "brown" color and "bright" shine. We observed that 39.1% of the bacteria were able to perform phosphate solubilization, 61.9% performed atmospheric nitrogen fixation and 26.9% performed indole acetic acid synthesis. The results showed that the endophytic bacteria isolated from Guadua sp. did not promote dry matter accumulation of white yam plants after 45 days of cultivation in a nursery. O vale do rio Juruá localizado no extremo ocidental da Amazônia é caracterizado pelo isolamento geográfico e um grande número de agricultores familiares, condições que formam uma riqueza em espécies alimentares produzidas localmente. Merece destaque o alto número de variedades locaisde mandiocaque é matéria prima na produção artesanal de produtos. Este trabalho teve como objetivo coletar, identificar e conservar as variedades locais de mandioca do vale do Juruá através da criação de uma coleção ex situ de variedadesde mandioca do vale do Juruá. Foram realizadas duas expedições técnicas de coleta de variedades de mandioca na Reserva Extrativista Altas Juruá situada em Marechal Thaumaturgo e no município de Cruzeiro do Sul. Foram registradas, coletadas, identificadas e multiplicadas 21 variedades locais de mandioca junto aos agricultores familiares sendo assim implantada a Coleção Mandioca do Vale do Juruá revelando uma grande riqueza que constitui um patrimônio genético conservado de geração para geração pelos agricultores familiares tradicionais e indígenas. The Juruá River Valley, located at the western end of Amazon, is characterized by geographical isolation and a large number of family farming that form a streak in locally produced food species. Noteworthy is the largest number of raw materials of cassava that is raw cousin in the artisanal production of foods. This work aimed to collect, identify and conserve as a variety of cassava varieties styles from the Juruá Valley through the creation ofan ex situcollection of cassava varieties from the Juruá Valley. Two technical expeditions to collect cassava varieties were organized in the Higth Juruá Extractive Reserve located in Marechal Thaumaturgo and Cruzeiro do Sul. 21 local cassava varieties ofJuruá River Valley were incorporated, collected and multiplied revealing a conserved genetic heritage of generation for classical and indigenous purposes. A mandioca é a cultura mais importante da região do Vale do Juruá, Acre, e seu principal uso se dá na produção para auto consumo e venda da farinha. A caracterização de variedades de mandioca é passo fundamental em programas de melhoramento da cultura auxiliando a seleção de genótipos superiores. O objetivo deste trabalho foi demonstrar por meio de marcadores botânicos-agronômico a diversidade presente das principais variedades de mandioca cultivadas no vale do rio Juruá, Acre. A pesquisa foi realizada no município de Cruzeiro do Sul na Unidade Experimental da Universidade Federal do Acre. Nesta pesquisa foram utilizados 19descritores da cultura usando 17 variedades locais de mandioca. Os resultados evidenciam que existe alta divergência genética entre as variedades que podem ser usadas em programas de melhoramento da cultura. Cassava is the most important crop in the region of Vale do Jurua, Acre and its main use is in the production for self-consumption and sale of flour. The characterization of cassava varieties is a fundamental step in crop improvement programs, helping to select superior genotypes. The objective of this work was to demonstrate through botanical-agronomic markers the present diversity of the main cassava varieties grown in the Jurua river valley, Acre. The research was conducted in the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul at the Experimental Unit of the Federal University of Acre. In this research wereused 19 crop descriptors using 17 local cassava varieties. The results show that there is a high genetic divergence among the varieties that can be used in breeding programs. Cratylia argentea is a multi-purpose shrub with potential as a source of protein for livestock, but is rarely used in production units. This study aimed to monitor the establishment of a stand of this plant in a sandy Ultisol (Red-Yellow Argisol), in an area of 4,000 m2 on a rural property in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, Brazil, comparing 2 planting methods: (i) transplanting seedlings (78 in total); and (ii) direct seeding (3,820 seeds in 1,910 pits). The existing pasture was sprayed with glyphosate before planting C. argentea. Subsequently, herbicide and mechanical methods were used to control weeds, while fertilizer was applied and the area was mulched. In the first year after planting, activities performed and inputs were recorded along with costs in order to create a reference model for those intending to cultivate this species in the humid tropics. At 10 months after planting, average height of plants was 162 cm (range 70?240 cm) with no effect of planting method. Ninety-seven per cent of plants established from seedlings survived, while 81% of pits established from direct seeding in the field had surviving plants. The cost of establishing a hectare of C. argentea was US$ 1,654.17, with 85.8% of the cost for labor and only 14.2% for other inputs, although costs of producing seedlings and hand-planting them were not considered. The Juruá valley mesoregion is recognized for its diversity of cultivars of common beans and cowpea and is an important center for on farm bean conservation in Brazil. However, there is little information about production systems of Creoles cultivars and, in this approach, the study aimed to identify the production centers and to gather information about beans production systems. Thirty eight farmers and five merchants were interviewed using semi-structured questionnaries. Juruá valley farmers use three beans production systems: "beach farming", "slash burn system" and "stuffy farming". The systems use family labor with low dependence on external inputs, two classified as itinerant. The study identified two beans production centers: Alto Juruá extractive reserve and Santa Luzia directed settlement project.
