1. Nesting habitat characteristics of flatback Natator depressus, green Chelonia mydas and loggerhead Caretta caretta turtles in eastern Queensland, Australia

Abstract: Coastal areas provide essential habitats for marine turtle nesting and hatching, but they are under increasing threat due to climate change and other anthropogenic impacts. Very little is known about the nesting habitat characteristics of flatback Natator depressus, green Chelonia mydas and loggerhead Caretta caretta turtles in eastern Queensland, which limits our ability to evaluate which nesting beaches are at risk due to anthropogenic and environmental disturbances and prioritise conservation and monitoring actions. Here, we used generalised linear models to investigate the relationship between the presence/absence of flatback, green and loggerhead turtle nests and environmental and topographic characteristics of 237 potential nesting sites along the central and southern coasts of Queensland. The presence of nesting flatback turtles was strongly correlated with the mainland and non-coral cay islands with decreasing latitude, as there is an interaction between site type and latitude. In contrast, green turtles preferred to nest on coral cays rather than mainland and island beaches. Loggerhead turtles were more likely to nest on coral cays, the mainland, then islands, with presence increasing with latitude. Among these site types and higher latitudes, presence was stronger on sheltered than on semi-exposed beaches. Identifying environmental and topographical features influencing the presence of nesting flatback, green and loggerhead turtles is an important first step to improve the conservation of these species by prioritising sites for monitoring and managing threats to important beaches.

2. Inter-nesting habitat use by green turtles Chelonia mydas in the Great Barrier Reef

Abstract: Understanding green turtle habitat use during the nesting season is important for informing management decisions relating to green turtles and ecosystems that support them. Despite patterns such as migration being described, few studies investigate behaviour during the inter-nesting period. This research aims to describe and quantify the spatial distribution patterns of green turtles during 2 nesting seasons on Raine Island in the northern Great Barrier Reef. Satellite telemetry data were used to analyse the inter-nesting movements and patterns of green turtles in 2017 (n = 19) and 2018 (n = 20). The inter-nesting period ranged from 51 to 100 d (76.33 ± 15.98 d) across both seasons. The average inter-nesting area of individual turtles did not differ between nesting seasons (2017: 12.31 ± 13.22 km2, 2018: 12.01 ± 21.92 km2). In addition, it was established that 39 individuals are a sufficient sample size to describe the spatial distribution. Approximately half of the tracked individuals remained at the same reef for their entire inter-nesting season (n = 19), and half used habitat on nearby reefs (n = 20). Most turtles showed fidelity to Raine Island as a nesting site (n = 37), laying all their clutches on the island. However, 2 individuals travelled 479 and 337 km during the inter-nesting period. This study thus highlights where the habitats used by green turtles during the inter-nesting season are and how they are used. Therefore, management strategies and conservation decisions can be informed to maintain the viability of these essential habitats.

3. Survey of drug use and its association with herd-level and farm-level characteristics on German dairy farms

Abstract: ABSTRACT: The use of veterinary drugs is of similar importance to that of human drugs in addressing health challenges. In this context, pharmaceuticals and their metabolites inevitably enter soil and water in unknown quantities. Therefore, this study collects and analyzes drug data from 2020 for 50 dairy farms located in Germany. The most frequently used substance group is antibiotics (40.13%), followed by antiphlogistics (18.86%), antiparasitics (13.09%), and hormones (9.29%). Treatment frequencies record the number of days per year on which an average animal on a farm was treated with a substance. The calculated values range from 0.94 to 21.69 d/yr and are distributed heterogeneously across farms. In this study, on average, a cow was treated on 6 d in 2020: 2.34 d with antibiotics, 1.07 d with antiphlogistics, 0.76 d with antiparasitics, and 0.41 d with hormones. In addition to individual farm management practices, other factors are related to treatment frequency. Farms with a veterinary care contract used more hormonal substances than farms without a care contract. In addition, higher milk yield coincides with more frequent treatments with antiphlogistic or hormonal substances. Other related factors include grazing, longevity, farm size, and use of a claw bath. Our study represents an important first step in describing the amounts and determinants of veterinary drugs used in livestock farming. Such insights on magnitudes and farm parameters are essential to estimate potential environmental effects and derive strategies to reduce veterinary drug use.

4. Occurrence of leatherback turtles around Australia

Abstract: Leatherback turtles Dermochelys coriacea are a pelagic species, globally endangered due to multiple anthropogenic impacts. Although protected under Australian legislation, species-specific practical protection has been hampered by sparse information about leatherback distribution in Australian waters. To fill this gap, we obtained records of leatherback interactions with fisheries gear, opportunistic sightings at sea, beach stranding events and non-target capture in shark control programs. We evaluated the temporal and geographic distribution of records and assessed potential bias in observation opportunity based on human population density and fishery activity. Based on 1073 leatherback observations from 1990 to 2022, we found that sightings were unevenly distributed right around Australia, encompassing longitudes from 105.4°E to 165.1°E and latitudes from 43.7°S to 10°S. In the extreme southeast of Australia, hotspots were apparent during December to March (austral summer). In temperate and subtropical latitudes to the west and east of Australia, hotspots appeared predominantly during June, July and August (austral winter), but were also apparent, albeit weaker, to the east in all other months. Our results confirm that the species is present around Australia in all months of the year and has a much wider geographic and offshore distribution around Australia than previously reported. Hence, we inferred that Australian waters are highly important for migrating and foraging leatherbacks from subpopulations breeding in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, all of which are at high risk of extinction, and we suggest that Australian management agencies have crucial roles in protecting these endangered animals.

5. Intraspecific variability in flatback turtle habitat use: δ15N as an indicator of foraging locations

Abstract: Identifying migration routes and key habitats is critical for the management and conservation of migratory species. Tracking and stable isotope analysis (SIA), particularly of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N), are often used to study animal movements, with SIA particularly useful when animals move through isotopic gradients. Marine turtles are typically highly migratory, moving between nesting and foraging grounds often located 100s-1000s km apart. The flatback turtle Natator depressus is endemic to the Australian continental shelf. Satellite tracking (n = 44) and SIA (n = 33) of females nesting in eastern Queensland, Australia, were used to identify main foraging areas, describe intraspecific variation in the location of foraging areas, and determine if δ13C and/or δ15N values can be used to identify foraging regions. Although foraging grounds were widely dispersed, tracking identified 3 main foraging regions. SIA agreed with tracking, indicating foraging site fidelity. Generalized linear models and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were used to estimate how well δ13C/δ15N and nesting sites can perform as indicators of broad foraging regions and to predict foraging regions for turtles with no tracking data. δ15N was a strong predictor of the foraging region. LDA correctly classified the foraging region of 94% of individuals and was suitable to predict foraging regions of untracked individuals. A strong negative linear relationship between turtle δ15N and foraging latitude indicates the presence of a δ15N isoscape along the eastern Queensland coast. This is the first demonstration of an isoscape for the region, which should be useful for studying and monitoring the habitat use of flatback turtles and other migratory species.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE Clerkship grades are a component of determining a residency candidate's competitiveness. In 2017, the University of Minnesota Medical School's pediatric clerkship transitioned its standardized multiple-choice exam, the Aquifer Pediatrics Examination, to pass/fail with eligibility for honors being determined by clinical performance, not exam performance. We assessed the effect this change had on Aquifer exam performance and evaluated for correlation between Aquifer exam performance and clinical evaluation scores in order to gather insight into the validity of each type of assessment with respect to one another. METHODS We analyzed de-identified data from 750 medical students between the academic years of 2016 to 2017 and 2019 to 2020. Individual Aquifer exam scores were compared to individual clinical performance scores. Differences in exam performance before and after the transition to pass/fail were investigated with a two-sample t -test and Cohen's d for effect size. RESULTS No correlation was found between Aquifer exam scores and clinical performance scores. 7. Patterns of nesting behaviour and nesting success for green turtles at Raine Island, Australia

Abstract: To understand how turtles use the nesting habitat at Raine Island across a nesting season, and how the turtles respond to the restoration of the island’s dune systems, we identified 534 nesting events for 39 green turtles Chelonia mydas across 2 breeding seasons using data derived from satellite tags. Tracked turtles laid between 4 and 10 clutches of eggs. Patterns of nesting success varied between individuals, within and between seasons. Nesting success was higher in 2018-19 (57%) than 2017-18 (45%), and in both years, nesting success was lowest between October and early January (50%). The density of female turtles ashore was lower in 2018-19, and likely explains higher nesting success in 2018-19 because competition for nest space was lower. In 2017-18, females had more attempts per clutch, and the attempts were around 90 min longer. Consequently, energy required to lay a clutch of eggs in 2017-18 was significantly higher than in 2018-19, highlighting potential costs of lower nesting success rates on reproductive output. The area of beach re-profiled as an intervention in 2014 and 2017 was a nesting hotspot in 2017-18. However, in 2018-19, the area was not used to the same extent, and the nesting hotspot occurred on the north-eastern unaltered beach. Collectively, the tracking of turtles across the whole nesting season enabled us to assess overall beach use and nesting site fidelity of green turtles at Raine Island. Results will aid future planning and management of beach restoration activities at turtle nesting sites.

9. Confirmed feasibility of a satellite tracker attachment method on small juvenile hawksbill turtles Eretmochelys imbricata

Abstract: Satellite trackers can be used for studying sea turtle movement, illuminating their migrations and behaviours. However, many studies have focused on adult turtles, with uneven species representation, despite the importance of understanding movement and habitat use of turtles at all life-stages. Furthermore, few publications detail successful satellite tracker attachment methods, particularly for juveniles. Smaller-sized juvenile sea turtles often have an irregularly shaped carapace and are fast growing, rendering the attachment of rigid trackers in a safe and durable manner challenging. Juvenile hawksbill turtles’ specific carapace shape and imbricated scute arrangement further complicate satellite tracker attachment compared to juveniles of other turtle species. This study’s objective was to confirm the feasibility of an attachment method that would allow small-sized juvenile hawksbill turtles (~267-345 mm curved carapace length) to continue growing, without tracker loss or damage to underlying scutes. Replica trackers were made of resin (simulating Wildlife Computer Spot-387 trackers), and attached with epoxy, silicone and neoprene, using a technique modified from those used on neonate loggerheads and Kemp’s ridleys. Throughout the study (3.5 mo), replica trackers remained attached, the turtles grew up to 114% heavier and 25% longer, and all turtles appeared clinically healthy and active. Furthermore, all scutes were undamaged after tracker removal. As a critically endangered species, the paucity of data on hawksbill turtles, and specifically juveniles, can hinder evidence-based management decision-making. The improved ability to satellite track juvenile hawksbills can, therefore, help better our understanding of their ecology and inform management and conservation practices for this species.

Abstract: Detecting genomic alterations (GAs) in advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) can expand treatment options by identifying candidates for targeted therapies. Erdafitinib is FDA-approved for patients with platinum-refractory aUC with activating mutation or fusion in FGFR2/3. We explored the prevalence and spectrum of FGFR2/3 GAs identified with plasma cfDNA NGS testing (Guardant360) in 997 patients with aUC. FGFR2/3 GAs were detected in 201 patients (20%) with characterized activating GAs in 141 (14%). Our results indicate the Guardant360-based FGFR2/3 GA detection rate is similar to those described from previous studies employing tumor tissue testing, suggesting that plasma-based cfDNA NGS may non-invasively identify candidates for anti-FGFR targeted therapies.

13. Effect of sea turtle rehabilitation centres in Queensland, Australia, on people’s perceptions of conservation

Abstract: Sea turtles are found worldwide, with all 7 species considered species of conservation concern. The public has seen sea turtle rehabilitation centres as an important tool for conserving sea turtle populations. However, educating the public regarding threats to sea turtles and how they can minimise these threats by making a change in their own lives may be more beneficial than rehabilitation alone, in terms of the ability to restore turtle numbers. In order to determine the educational role of rehabilitation centres, 245 surveys were distributed at several Australian-based rehabilitation centres. The survey was in 2 parts. The first part collected information about visitor’s knowledge of threats, their willingness to pay for conservation, and socio-economic information. The second part determined what threats visitors had learned about, whether visitors would make a change to help support sea turtle conservation, and whether they would be willing to pay more for conservation following their visit. Overall, results showed that all visitors to the sea turtle rehabilitation centres were willing to make a change in their lives to help protect sea turtles. Additionally, the majority of visitors were willing to donate annually to sea turtle conservation. The extra revenue raised could be used for conservation purposes and further research to address the threats sea turtles face. Combining the opportunity for visitors to observe sea turtles up close and learn about threats and how they can be minimised at rehabilitation centres will assist in increasing population sizes and protecting them into the future.

Abstract: We explore the effect of charge density wave (CDW) on the in-plane thermoelectric transport properties of (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 and (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)2 heterostructures. In (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 we observe an abrupt 86% increase in the Seebeck coefficient, 245% increase in the power factor, and a slight decrease in resistivity over the CDW transition. This behavior is not observed in (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)2 and is rather unusual compared to the general trend observed in other materials. The abrupt transition causes a deviation from the Mott relationship through correlated electron states. Raman spectra of the (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 material show the emergence of additional peaks below the CDW transition temperature associated with VSe2 material. Temperature-dependent in-plane X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra show a change in the in-plane thermal expansion of VSe2 in (PbSe)1+δ(VSe2)1 due to lattice distortion. The increase in the power factor and decrease in the resistivity due to CDW suggest a potential mechanism for enhancing the thermoelectric performance at the low temperature region.

Abstract: Abstract A search is made for charged Higgs bosons predicted by Two-Higgs-Doublet extensions of the Standard Model (2HDM) using electron-positron collision data collected by the OPAL experiment at $\sqrt{s}=189\mbox{--}209\ \mbox{GeV}$ , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 600 pb−1. Charged Higgs bosons are assumed to be pair-produced and to decay into $\mathrm{q} \bar{\mathrm{q}}$ , τν τ or AW±. No signal is observed. Model-independent limits on the charged Higgs-boson production cross section are derived by combining these results with previous searches at lower energies. Under the assumption $\mathrm{BR} (\mathrm{H}^{\pm} \to \tau\nu_{\tau}) + \mathrm{BR} (\mathrm{H}^{\pm} \to \mathrm{q} \bar{\mathrm{q}}) = 1$ , motivated by general 2HDM type II models, excluded areas on the $[m_{\mathrm{H}^{\pm}} , \mathrm{BR} (\mathrm {H}^{\pm} \to \tau\nu_{\tau})]$ plane are presented and charged Higgs bosons are excluded up to a mass of 76.3 GeV at 95 % confidence level, independent of the branching ratio BR(H±→τν τ). A scan of the 2HDM type I model parameter space is performed and limits on the Higgs-boson masses $m_{\mathrm{H}^{\pm}}$ and m A are presented for different choices of tanβ.

Abstract: Following civil unrest during 2020, physicians began to notice a variety of injuries resulting from crowd control weapons. While prior research emphasized ocular trauma, genitourinary complications of injuries have yet to be investigated. A previously healthy 27-year-old male presented to the emergency department due to sudden onset of severe left testicular pain following rubber bullet trauma. Physical exam showed extreme tenderness, abrasion, contusion, and edema of the left testicle with normal right testicle. Doppler ultrasound showed minimal blood flow to the superior pole with irregularity of the tunica albuginea. Surgery confirmed testicular rupture with a large tunical violation and extruded spermatic tubules. The testicle was thoroughly irrigated, non-viable tubules were debrided, and intraoperative ultrasound confirmed restoration of blood flow. Patient was discharged and instructed to follow-up should he face any fertility concerns in the future. Current crowd control guidelines state projectiles should be aimed at the lower abdomen or extremities; however, projectiles can cause testicular trauma which may lead to hypogonadism, infection, and psychological impact. Until there are changes to methods of crowd control, attendees should consider the use of athletic cups.

Abstract: Background An incomplete circle of Willis (CoW) has been associated with a higher risk of stroke and might affect collateral flow in large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke. We aimed to investigate the distribution of CoW variants in a LVO stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) cohort and analyze their impact on 3‐month functional outcome. Methods CoW anatomy was assessed with time‐of‐flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF‐MRA) in 193 stroke patients with acute middle cerebral artery (MCA)‐M1‐occlusion receiving endovascular treatment (EVT) and 73 TIA patients without LVO. The main CoW variants were categorized into four vascular models of presumed collateral flow via the CoW. Results 82.4% (n = 159) of stroke and 72.6% (n = 53) of TIA patients had an incomplete CoW. Most variants affected the posterior circulation (stroke: 77.2%, n = 149; TIA: 58.9%, n = 43; p = 0.004). Initial stroke severity defined by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) on admission was similar for patients with and without CoW variants. CoW integrity did not differ between groups with favorable (modified Rankin Scale [mRS]): 0–2) and unfavorable (mRS: 3–6) 3‐month outcome. However, we found trends towards a higher mortality in patients with any type of CoW variant (p = 0.08) and a higher frequency of incomplete CoW among patients dying within 3 months after stroke onset (p = 0.119). In a logistic regression analysis adjusted for the potential confounders age, sex and atrial fibrillation, neither the vascular models nor anterior or posterior variants were independently associated with outcome. Abstract: While a linear growth behavior is one of the fingerprints of textbook atomic layer deposition processes, the growth often deviates from that behavior in the initial regime, i.e. the first few cycles of a process. To properly understand the growth behavior in the initial regime is particularly important for applications that rely on the exact thickness of very thin films. The determination of the thicknesses of the initial regime, however, often requires special equipment and techniques that are not always available. We propose a thickness determination method that is based on X-ray reflectivity (XRR) measurements on double layer structures, i.e. substrate/base layer/top layer. XRR is a standard thin film characterization method. Utilizing the inherent properties of fast Fourier transformation in combination with a multi-Gaussian fitting routine permits the determination of thicknesses down to $t \approx 2$ nm. We evaluate the boundaries of our model, which are given by the separation and full width at half maximum of the individual Gaussians. Finally, we compare our results from two layer stacks with data from X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, which is a standard method for measuring ultra thin films.

Abstract: The composition and thickness of thin films determine their physical properties, making the ability to measure the number of atoms of different elements in films both technologically and scientifically important. For thin films, below a certain thickness, the X-ray fluorescence intensity of an element is proportional to the number of atoms. Converting this intensity to the number of atoms per unit area is challenging due to experimental geometries and other correction factors. Hence, the ratio of intensities is more commonly used to determine the composition in terms of element ratios using standards or a model. Here, the number of atoms per unit area was determined using X-ray structure information for over 20 different crystallographically aligned samples with integral unit cell thicknesses. Abstract: To assess the suitability of asymmetric cyanine dyes for in vivo fluoro-optical molecular imaging, a comprehensive study on the influence of the number of negatively charged sulfonate groups governing the hydrophilicity of the DY-67x family of asymmetric cyanines was performed. Special attention was devoted to the plasma protein binding capacity and related pharmacokinetic properties. Four members of the DY-67x cyanine family composed of the same main chromophore, but substituted with a sequentially increasing number of sulfonate groups (n = 1−4; DY-675, DY-676, DY-677, DY-678, respectively), were incubated with plasma proteins dissolved in phosphate-buffered saline. Protein binding was assessed by absorption spectroscopy, gel electrophoresis, ultrafiltration, and dialysis. Distribution of dye in organs was studied by intraveneous injection of 62 nmol dye/kg body weight into mice (n = 12; up to 180 minutes postinjection) using whole-body near-infrared fluorescence imaging. Spectroscopic studies, gel electrophoresis, and dialysis demonstrated reduced protein binding with increasing number of sulfonate groups. The bovine serum albumin binding constant of the most hydrophobic dye, DY-675, is 18 times higher than that of the most hydrophilic fluorophore, DY-678. In vivo biodistribution analysis underlined a considerable influence of dye hydrophilicity on biodistribution and excretion pathways, with the more hydrophobic dyes, DY-675 and DY-676, accumulating in the liver, followed by strong fluorescence signals in bile and gut owing to accumulation in feces and comparatively hydrophilic DY-678-COOH accumulating in the bladder. Our results demonstrate the possibility of selectively controlling dye-protein interactions and, thus, biodistribution and excretion pathways via proper choice of the fluorophore's substitution pattern. This underlines the importance of structure-property relationships for fluorescent labels. Moreover, our data could provide the basis for the rationalization of future contrast agent developments.

Abstract: Preparing homologous series of compounds allows chemists to rapidly discover new compounds with predictable structure and properties. Synthesizing compounds within such a series involves navigating a free energy landscape defined by the interactions within and between constituent atoms. Historically, synthesis approaches are typically limited to forming only the most thermodynamically stable compound under the reaction conditions. Presented here is the synthesis, via self-assembly of designed precursors, of isocompositional incommensurate layered compounds [(BiSe)1+δ] m[TiSe2] m with m = 1, 2, and 3. The structure of the BiSe bilayer in the m = 1 compound is not that of the binary compound, and this is the first example of compounds where a BiSe layer thicker than a bilayer in heterostructures has been prepared. Specular and in-plane X-ray diffraction combined with high-resolution electron microscopy data was used to follow the formation of the compounds during low-temperature annealing and the subsequent decomposition of the m = 2 and 3 compounds into [(BiSe)1+δ]1[TiSe2]1 at elevated temperatures. These results show that the structure of the precursor can be used to control reaction kinetics, enabling the synthesis of kinetically stable compounds that are not accessible via traditional techniques. The data collected as a function of temperature and time enabled us to schematically construct the topology of the free energy landscape about the local free energy minima for each of the products.

Abstract: Single- and few-layer metal chalcogenide compounds are of significant interest due to structural changes and emergent electronic properties on reducing dimensionality from three to two dimensions. To explore dimensionality effects in SnSe, a series of [(SnSe)1+δ]mTiSe2 intergrowth structures with increasing SnSe layer thickness (m = 1-4) were prepared from designed thin-film precursors. In-plane diffraction patterns indicated that significant structural changes occurred in the basal plane of the SnSe constituent as m is increased. Scanning transmission electron microscopy cross sectional images of the m = 1 compound indicate long-range coherence between layers whereas the m ≧ 2 compounds show extensive rotational disorder between the constituent layers. For m ≧ 2, the images of the SnSe constituent contain a variety of stacking sequences of SnSe bilayers. Abstract: Introduction: The irreversible pan-HER inhibitor NER showed modest single agent activity for HER2mut MBC in Part I of MutHER trial. In Part II, we hypothesized that (1) N+F would improve activity in estrogen receptor positive (ER+) HER2mut MBC due to ER-HER2 crosstalk and (2) dual HER2 blockade by adding trastuzumab at disease progression (PD) could overcome resistance. Methods: Pts with ER+HER2mut MBC were enrolled to 2 cohorts (FUL treated or naive) to receive N+F with diarrhea prophylaxis. ER- pts received NER in an exploratory ER- cohort. Trastuzumab was added at PD if approved by insurance. Simon's Minimax 2-stage phase II design with the primary endpoint of clinical benefit rate (CBR: rates of complete/partial response [CR/PR] plus stable disease [SD] >24 weeks [wks]), with anticipated vs null hypothesis being CBR of 55% vs 35% (FUL treated) or 65% vs 40% (FUL naïve) with 80% power, 1 sided 0.05 alpha, was used. Secondary endpoints included progression free survival (PFS) and adverse events (AEs). Serial blood samples were analyzed for circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) by Guardant360 for concomitant mutations, HER2mut variant allele frequency (VAF) dynamics, and resistance mechanisms. Results: Between Sep. 2015 and Oct. 2020, 40 pts with HER2mut MBC were enrolled, completing the 1st stage of each ER+ cohort. 35 pts (21 FUL treated, 10 FUL naïve, 4 ER-) were evaluable for response, with median age 63 (35-82) years, 3 (0-12) prior MBC regimen, lobular BC in 13 (37%) and visceral mets in 32 (91%) pts. 21 (68%) ER+ pts had prior CDK4/6 inhibitor. All but 1 pt has come off study due to PD. Table 1 shows the efficacy by cohort. Further enrollment is closed per protocol. Adding trastuzumab at PD induced CB in 4 (3 PR, 1 SD≥24 wks) of 5 pts (1 ER-, 4 ER+), with PFS 28 (95% CI 18~NA) wks. Common AEs across cohorts were diarrhea (G3 21%) and fatigue (G3 5%). No G4 AEs. ctDNA HER2mut was detected in 72% (23/32) baseline (BL) samples tested. In pts with paired samples, HER2mut VAF decreased at C1D15/C2D1 from BL in 75% (15/20) and rose in 89% (16/18) at PD. Acquired HER2mut, including the T798I gatekeeper mutation, were detected in 2 pts at PD. Mutations in TP53 (53%), PIK3CA (43%), and CDH1 (35%) were common, but none significantly associated with PFS in all or ER+ pts. Conclusions: NER, or N+F, is active for HER2mut MBC with good tolerability. Adding trastuzumab at PD induced further response, supporting dual HER2 blockade for HER2mut MBC. Abstract: Reward mediates the acquisition and long-term retention of procedural skills in humans. Yet, learning under rewarded conditions is highly variable across individuals and the mechanisms that determine interindividual variability in rewarded learning are not known. We postulated that baseline functional connectivity in a large-scale frontostriatal-limbic network could predict subsequent interindividual variability in rewarded learning. Resting-state functional MRI was acquired in two groups of subjects (n = 30) who then trained on a visuomotor procedural learning task with or without reward feedback. We then tested whether baseline functional connectivity within the frontostriatal-limbic network predicted memory strength measured immediately, 24 h and 1 month after training in both groups. We found that connectivity in the frontostriatal-limbic network predicted interindividual variability in the rewarded but not in the unrewarded learning group. Prediction was strongest for long-term memory. Similar links between connectivity and reward-based memory were absent in two control networks, a fronto-parieto-temporal language network and the dorsal attention network. The results indicate that baseline functional connectivity within the frontostriatal-limbic network successfully predicts long-term retention of rewarded learning.

Abstract: Synthesis and characterization of Mg x Zr2−x N2 (0.5 ≤ x ≤ 1.8) thin films deposited by reactive magnetron co-sputtering in nitrogen plasma is reported. Composition measurements show that nitrides with low oxygen content (less than 1%) can be formed up to x = 1.0, at which point an increase in oxygen content is observed. Up to composition of x = 1.6 the Mg x Zr2−x N2 thin films form in a rocksalt-derived crystal structure, as revealed by X-ray diffraction measurements. At x > 1.6 the films rapidly oxidize. The lattice constant of the stoichiometric MgZrN2 composition is a = 4.537 A, and only small changes in lattice parameter are observed with changing composition. Electrical conductivity decreases by several orders of magnitude with increasing Mg-content. The conductivity of Mg-rich (x ≥ 1) films increases with increasing measurement temperature, indicating semiconducting character of Mg-rich Mg x Zr2−x N2. Optical absorption measurements of these Mg-rich samples show a clear absorption onset at 1.8 eV, also indicative of semiconducting behavior.

Abstract: Data on muon pair production obtained by the OPAL collaboration at centre of mass energies near the Z peak are analysed. Small angular mismatches between the directions of the two muons are used to assess the effects of initial state photon radiation and initial-final-state radiation interference on the forward-backward asymmetry of muon pairs. The dependence of the asymmetry on the invariant mass of the pair is measured in a model-independent way. Abstract: A search is performed for Higgs bosons decaying into invisible final states, produced in association with a Z(0) boson in e(+)e(-) collisions at energies between 183 and 209 GeV. The search is based on data samples collected by the OPAL detector at LEP corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 660 pb(-1). The analysis aims to select events containing the hadronic decay products of the Z(0) boson and large missing momentum, as expected from Higgs boson decay into a pair of stable weakly interacting neutral particles, such as the lightest neutralino in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The same analysis is applied to a search for nearly invisible Higgs boson cascade decays into stable weakly interacting neutral particles. No excess over the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. Limits on the production of invisibly decaying Higgs bosons produced in association with a Z(0) boson are derived. Assuming a branching ratio BR(h(0) -> invisible) = 1, a lower limit of 108.2 GeV is placed on the Higgs boson mass at the 95% confidence level. Abstract: This Letter describes a direct search for pair produced magnetic monopoles in e(+)e(-) collisions. The analysis is based on 62.7 pb(-1) of data collected with the OPAL detector at an average centre-of-mass energy of root S = 206.3 GeV. The monopole signal was assumed to be characterized by two back-to-back particles with an anomalously high ionization energy loss dE/dx in the tracking chambers. No evidence for production of monopoles was observed. Upper limits were obtained on the magnetic monopole pair-production cross-section (sigma) in the mass range 45 GeV/c(2) < m(M) < 102 GeV/c(2). The average limit is sigma < 0.05 pb and is essentially independent of the magnetic monopole mass. The cross-section limit is derived at the 95% confidence level and is valid for spin-1/2 magnetic monopoles. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: Inclusive jet production (e(+)e(-) -> e(+)e(-) + jet + X) is studied in collisions of quasi-real photons radiated by the LEP beams at e(+)e(-) centre-of-mass energies root s(ee) from 189 to 209 GeV. Jets are reconstructed using the k(perpendicular to) jet algorithm. The inclusive differential cross-section is measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum, p(T)(jet), in the range 5 < p(T)(jet) < 40 GeV for pseudo-rapidities, eta(jet), in the range - 1.5 < eta(jet) < 1.5. The results are compared to predictions of perturbative QCD in next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: A new scalar resonance, called the radion, with couplings to fermions and bosons similar to those of the Higgs boson, is predicted in the framework of Randall-Sundrum models, proposed solutions to the hierarchy problem with one extra dimension. An important distinction between the radion and the Higgs boson is that the radion would couple directly to gluon pairs, and in particular its decay products would include a significant fraction of gluon jets. The radion had the same quantum numbers as the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson, and therefore they can mix, with the resulting mass eigenstates having properties different from those of the SM Higgs boson. Existing searches for the Higgs boson are sensitive to the possible production and decay of radions and Higgs bosons in these models. For the first time, searches for the SM Higgs boson and flavour-independent and decay-mode independent searches for a neutral Higgs boson are used in combination to explore the parameter space of the Randall-Sundrum model. In the dataset recorded by the OPAL experiment at LEP, no evidence for radion or Higgs particle production was observed in any of those searches. Abstract: Measurements of R b , the ratio of the b b ¯ cross-section to the q q ¯ cross-section in e + e − collisions, are presented. The data were collected by the OPAL experiment at LEP at centre-of-mass energies between 182 and 209 GeV. Lepton, lifetime and event-shape information is used to tag events containing b quarks with high efficiency. The data are compatible with the Standard Model expectation. The mean ratio of the eight measurements reported here to the Standard Model prediction is 1.055 ± 0.031 ± 0.037 , where the first error is statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract: We present a determination of the LEP beam energy using "radiative return" fermion-pair events recorded at centre-of-mass energies from 183 GeV to 209 GeV. We find no evidence of a disagreement between the OPAL data and the LEP Energy Workings Group's standard calibration. Including the energy- averaged 11 MeV uncertainty in the standard determination, the beam energy we obtain from the OPAL data is higher than that obtained from the LEP calibration by 0+-34(stat.)+-27(syst.)MeV, Comment: 24 pages, 5 figures, Submitted to Phys. Abstract: Events with a final state consisting of two or more photons and large missing transverse energy have been observed in e + e − collisions at centre-of-mass energies in the range 192–209 GeV using the OPAL detector at LEP. Cross-section measurements are performed within the kinematic acceptance of the selection and compared with the expectations from the Standard Model process e + e − → ν ν ¯ γ γ ( γ ) . No evidence for new physics contributions to this final state is observed. Upper limits on σ ( e + e − → X X ) ⋅ BR 2 ( X → Y γ ) are derived for the case of stable and invisible Y. In the case of massive Y the combined limits obtained from all the data range from 10 to 60 fb, while for the special case of massless Y the range is 20 to 40 fb. The limits apply to pair production of excited neutrinos ( X = ν * , Y = ν ), to neutralino production ( X = χ ˜ 2 0 , Y = χ ˜ 1 0 ) and to supersymmetric models in which X = χ ˜ 1 0 and Y = G ˜ is a light gravitino.

Abstract: A search for the Higgsstrahlung process e + e − → hZ is described, where the neutral Higgs boson h is assumed to decay into hadronic final states. In order to be sensitive to a broad range of models, the search is performed independent of the flavour content of the Higgs boson decay. The analysis is based on e + e − collision data collected by the OPAL detector at energies between 192 and 209 GeV. The search does not reveal any significant excess over the Standard Model background prediction. Results are combined with previous searches at energies around 91 and at 189 GeV. A limit is set on the product of the cross-section and the hadronic branching ratio of the Higgs boson, as a function of the Higgs boson mass. Assuming the hZ coupling predicted by the Standard Model, and a Higgs boson decaying only into hadronic final states, a lower bound of 104 GeV / c 2 is set on the mass at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract: Bose-Einstein correlations between like-sign charged-particle pairs in e(+)e(-) --> W+ W- events recorded with the OPAL detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies between 183 GeV and 209 GeV are studied. Recently proposed methods which allow direct searches for correlations in the data via distributions of test variables are used to investigate the presence of correlations between hadrons originating from different W bosons in W+W- --> q (q) over barq (q) over bar events. Within the statistics of the data sample no evidence for inter - WW Bose-Einstein correlations is obtained. The data are also compared with predictions of a recent implementation of Bose-Einstein correlation effects in the Monte Carlo model PYTHIA.

Abstract: Hadronic event shape distributions from e+e− annihilation measured by the OPAL experiment at centre-of-mass energies between 91 GeV and 209 GeV are used to determine the strong coupling α S. The results are based on QCD predictions complete to the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO), and on NNLO calculations matched to the resummed next-to-leading-log-approximation terms (NNLO + NLLA). The combined NNLO result from all variables and centre-of-mass energies is while the combined NNLO + NLLA result is The completeness of the NNLO and NNLO + NLLA results with respect to missing higher order contributions, studied by varying the renormalization scale, is improved compared to previous results based on NLO or NLO + NLLA predictions only. The observed energy dependence of α S agrees with the QCD prediction of asymptotic freedom and excludes the absence of running.

Abstract: A search for single production of doubly-charged Higgs bosons has been performed using 600.7 pb^-1 of e+e- collision data with sqrt(s)=189--209GeV collected by the OPAL detector at LEP. No evidence for the existence of H++/-- is observed. Upper limits on the Yukawa coupling of the H++/-- to like-signed electron pairs are derived. Additionally, indirect constraints on the Yukawa coupling from Bhabha scattering, where the H++/-- would contribute via t-channel exchange, are derived for M(H++/--) < 2TeV. These are the first results for both a single production search and constraints from Bhabha scattering reported from LEP., 20 pages, 9 figures, Submitted to Phys. Lett. B

Long-lived charged heavy leptons and charginos are excluded for masses below 102.0 GeV. For particles with fractional charge +-2/3, +-4/3, and +-5/3, the upper limit on the production cross-section varies between 0.005 and 0.020 pb. All mass and cross-section limits are derived at the 95% confidence level and are valid for particles with lifetimes longer than 10-6s. Abstract: A search was performed for charginos with masses close to the mass of the lightest neutralino in e+e- collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 189-209 GeV recorded by the OPAL detector at LEP. Events were selected if they had an observed high-energy photon from initial state radiation, reducing the dominant background from two-photon scattering to a negligible level. No significant excess over Standard Model expectations has been observed in the analysed data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 570pb-1. Upper limits were derived on the chargino pair-productin cross-section, and lower limits on the chargino mass were derived in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Extension of the Standard Model for the gravity and anomaly mediated Supersymmetry breaking scenarios., 26 pages, 9 figures

Abstract: The tau -> mu nu nu branching ratio has been measured using data collected from 1990 to 1995 by the OPAL detector at the LEP collider. The resulting value of B(tau -> mu nu nu) = 0.1734 +- 0.0009(stat) +- 0.0006(syst) has been used in conjunction with other OPAL measurements to test lepton universality, yielding the coupling constant ratios gmu/ge=1.0005+-0.0044 and gt/ge=1.0031+-0.0048, in good agreement with the Standard Model prediction of unity. A value for the Michel parameter eta = 0.004 +- 0.037 has also been determined and used to find a limit for the mass of the charged Higgs boson mH+- > 1.25 tan beta, in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

Abstract: Searches for first generation scalar and vector leptoquarks, and for squarks in R-parity violating SUSY models with the direct decay of the squark into Standard Model particles, have been performed using e+e- collisions collected with the OPAL detector at LEP at e+e- centre-of-mass energies between 189 and 209 GeV. No excess of events is found over the expectation from Standard Model background processes. Limits are computed on the leptoquark couplings for different values of the branching ratio to electron-quark final states.
