Objective To discuss the possible etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of epidermoid cysts of the jaw and to provide a reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods A case of an epidermoid cyst in the right mandible with retained deciduous teeth and succedaneous impacted teeth was reviewed and analyzed in combination with the relevant literature. Results A patient presented with a mass in the right mandible that had persisted for 1 month after being found at imaging examination. Tooth 83 was retained, and tooth 43 was unerupted. Swelling was characterized by no obvious tenderness, fluctuation, or table tennis sensation and was observed in the lingual alveoli of teeth 83, 44, and 45. Imaging revealed a low-density shadow in the apex of teeth 83, 44, 45, and 46, approximately 1.9 cm × 2.6 cm × 1.6 cm in size, which wrapped around the dental crown of tooth 43. Preliminary diagnoses were as follows: right mandibular mass thought to be a dentigerous cyst; impacted tooth 43; and retained primary tooth 83. The mass in the right mandible was removed, and teeth 43 and 83 were extracted under intravenous and inhalation anesthesia. During the operation, the mass was observed to have a thin cyst wall and contained bean-like residue. Histopathological examination indicated an epidermoid cyst in the right mandible. At the 1-week follow-up examination, the patient reported no discomfort, and the surgical area showed good recovery. According to the literature, epidermoid cysts are benign cysts originating from ectopic ectodermal tissue that can occur throughout the body but rarely in the oral cavity and are even extremely rarer in the jaw. Epidermoid cysts of the jaw, which have no specific clinical manifestations, can be confused with odontogenic cysts such as dentigerous cysts and odontogenic tumors. Dental pulp tests and other techniques can serve as a reference for clinicians. The diagnosis is confirmed via histopathology. Surgical removal is a common treatment, with a good prognosis and a low recurrence rate. Conclusion The principle of treatment for an epidermoid cyst of the jaw is similar to that for a jaw cyst. The prognosis is good when the cyst is removed completely.

Carbon emission reduction in the construction industry is crucial for promoting low-carbon transformation of the industry and for realizing the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. This study analyzes the current status of carbon emissions in Chinese construction industry. It identifies that the production of building materials and the operation of buildings are the primary sources of carbon emissions in the overall construction process. Moreover, the growth rate of carbon emissions from the construction industry in China is decelerating, and the spatial characteristics of carbon emissions demonstrate an increase from the south to the north and from the west to the east. We have identified six key challenges that must be addressed to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in the construction industry of China: policy and standards framework, energy-efficient and carbon-reducing technologies, reduction of carbon emissions from existing buildings, carbon emission data collection and monitoring systems, economic incentives, and increased awareness of carbon reduction. Staged goals for the low-carbon development of the construction industry are also proposed. Furthermore, we suggest improving related policies and standards system, optimizing the use of energy-saving technologies, reducing carbon emissions in existing buildings, developing green finance, improving the ability to monitor carbon emissions, and enhancing the awareness of energy conservation and carbon reduction, so as to provide references for the low-carbon transformation and high-quality development of China’s construction industry.

Formaldehyde (HCHO), as one of the main indoor toxic pollutions, presents a great threat to human health. Hence, it is imperative to efficiently remove HCHO and create a good indoor living environment for people. Herein, a layered perovskite material SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT), was studied for the first time and exhibited superior photocatalytic efficiency and stability compared to commercial TiO2 (P25). Furthermore, a unique dark–light tandem catalytic mechanism was constructed. In the dark reaction stage, HCHO (Lewis base) site was adsorbed on the terminal (Bi2O2)2+ layer (Lewis acid) site of SBT in the form of Lewis acid-base complexation and was gradually oxidized to CO32− intermediate (HCHO → DOM (dioxymethylene) → HCOO− → CO32−). Then, in the light reaction stage, CO32− was completely converted into CO2 and H2O (CO32− → CO2). Our study contributes to a thorough comprehension of the photocatalytic oxidation of HCHO and points out its potential for day–night continuous work applications in a natural environment. A method for counting the number of citrus fruits based on the improved YOLOv5s algorithm combined with the DeepSort tracking algorithm is proposed to address the problem of the low accuracy of counting citrus fruits due to shading and lighting factors in videos taken in orchards. In order to improve the recognition of citrus fruits, the attention module CBAM is fused with the backbone part of the YOLOv5s network, and the Contextual Transformer self-attention module is incorporated into the backbone network; meanwhile, SIoU is used as the new loss function instead of GIoU to further improve the accuracy of detection and to better keep the model in real time. Then, it is combined with the DeepSort algorithm to realize the counting of citrus fruits. The experimental results demonstrated that the average recognition accuracy of the improved YOLOv5s algorithm for citrus fruits improved by 3.51% compared with the original algorithm, and the average multi-target tracking accuracy for citrus fruits combined with the DeepSort algorithm was 90.83%, indicating that the improved algorithm has a higher recognition accuracy and counting precision in a complex environment, and has a better real-time performance, which can effectively achieve the real-time detection and tracking counting of citrus fruits. However, the improved algorithm has a reduced real-time performance and has difficulty in distinguishing whether or not the fruit is ripe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Radiation‐induced intestinal injury (RIII) is a common complication after radiation therapy in patients with pelvic, abdominal, or retroperitoneal tumours. Recently, in the model of DSS (Dextran Sulfate Sodium Salt) ‐induced intestinal inflammatory injury, it has been found in the study that transgenic mice expressing hVDR in IEC (Intestinal Epithelial Cell) manifest highly anti‐injury properties in colitis, suggesting that activated VDR in the epithelial cells of intestine may inhibit colitis by protecting the mucosal epithelial barrier. In this study, we investigated the effect of the expression and regulation of VDR on the protection of RIII, and the radiosensitivity in vitro experiments, and explored the initial mechanism of VDR in regulating radiosensitivity of IEC. As a result, we found that the expression of VDR in intestinal tissues and cells in mice can be induced by ionizing radiation. VDR agonists are able to prolong the average survival time of mice after radiation and reduce the radiation‐induced intestinal injury. For lack of vitamin D, the radiosensitivity of intestinal epithelial cells in mice increased, which can be reduced by VDR activation. Ensuing VDR activation, the radiation‐induced intestinal stem cells damage is decreased, and the regeneration and differentiation of intestinal stem cells is promoted as well. Finally, on the basis of sequencing analysis, we validated and found that VDR may target the HIF/PDK1 pathway to mitigate RIII. We concluded that agonism or upregulation of VDR expression attenuates radiation‐induced intestinal damage in mice and promotes the repair of epithelial damage in intestinal stem cells.
