The current study investigates the association between teacher demoralization and perceived school effectiveness. The sample consists of 267 teachers working in the province of Batman during the 2021-2022 academic year. They were reached through convenient sampling. Two data collection tools were used in the study. To measure teachers' demoralization level, the "Teacher Demoralization in Educational Policy Context Scale" and the school effectiveness level "Perceived School Effectiveness Scale" were adopted. The demoralization scale was a self-reported one, and school effectiveness was measured based on teacher perceptions. Since the data were normally distributed, parametric tests were employed. Within the descriptive statistics, means and standard deviations were calculated, and Pearson correlation coefficients, simple and multiple regression analysis were conducted to reveal the associations between variables. The findings revealed that teachers were moderately demoralized, and they perceived their schools as moderately effective. There was a significant moderate level of negative association between teacher demoralization and perceived school effectiveness. Teacher demoralization was a significant predictor of school effectiveness. We discussed the findings based on the previous literature. The researchers made some suggestions based on the findings and for further research.

School effectiveness research has received considerable attention for over half a century, resulting in abundant literature. However, there is a gap in the literature in terms of presenting this knowledge base through a bibliometric analysis. To fill this gap, the current study examines the articles on school effectiveness published in journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) database between 1981 and 2021. The search was conducted using the terms "school* effectiv*", "effectiv* school*", "effectiv* of school*", "effectiv* in school*" and "or" between them. Only articles published in the English language were included in the analysis. The initial search yielded a total of 3089 articles, but when the studies that did not satisfy the study's inclusion criteria were excluded, a total of 1102 studies remained. The research findings include the general profile of the articles, the annual frequency distribution of the articles by year, the most productive researchers, journals, and countries by the number of articles, the most influential articles in terms of the number of citations, the most frequently occurring author keywords, and their co-occurrence pattern. The findings also reveal co-authorship and cross-country collaboration patterns. The findings are anticipated to provide substantial implications for researchers to develop a deeper and more detailed insight into school effectiveness as a research field by structuring the existing literature. Additionally, some suggestions were made based on the findings.

This study investigates the mediating role of teachers' subjective well-being in the relationship between empowering leadership and the organizational resilience of schools. The sample consists of 410 teachers working in Kocaeli province. Participants were reached by a convenient sampling method. Data were collected with the "Empowering Leadership Scale", "Teacher Subjective Well-being Scale" and "Organizational Resilience Scale". The validity and reliability of the scales were tested within the scope of the current study, which yielded satisfactory results. Before the data analysis, the distribution of the data and whether there was a multicollinearity problem among the predictor variables were tested. Path analysis was used to test the research hypotheses. The findings suggested that the participants' perceptions of the variables were relatively positive. There were statistically significant, positive associations between the variables. On the other hand, empowering leadership significantly predicted teacher subjective well-being and organizational resilience, and teacher subjective well-being significantly predicted organizational resilience. Lastly, teachers' subjective well-being had a mediating role in the relationship between empowering leadership and organizational resilience. Drawing on these findings, it can be concluded that empowering teachers positively contribute to their subjective well-being (engagement in school and teaching efficacy) which in turn increases schools' organizational resilience.

BACKGROUND: Race-specific spirometry reference equations are used globally to interpret lung function for clinical, research, and occupational purposes, but inclusion of race is under scrutiny. RESEARCH QUESTION: Does including self-identified race in spirometry reference equation formation improve the ability of predicted FEV1 values to explain quantitative chest CT abnormalities, dyspnea, or Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) classification? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Using data from healthy adults who have never smoked in both the National Health and Nutrition Survey (2007-2012) and COPDGene study cohorts, race-neutral, race-free, and race-specific prediction equations were generated for FEV1. Using sensitivity/specificity, multivariable logistic regression, and random forest models, these equations were applied in a cross-sectional analysis to populations of individuals who currently smoke and individuals who formerly smoked to determine how they affected GOLD classification and the fit of models predicting quantitative chest CT phenotypes or dyspnea. RESULTS: Race-specific equations showed no advantage relative to race-neutral or race-free equations in models of quantitative chest CT phenotypes or dyspnea. Race-neutral reference equations reclassified up to 19% of Black participants into more severe GOLD classes, while race-neutral/race-free equations may improve model fit for dyspnea symptoms relative to race-specific equations. INTERPRETATION: Race-specific equations offered no advantage over race-neutral/race-free equations in three distinct explanatory models of dyspnea and chest CT scan abnormalities. Race-neutral/race-free reference equations may improve pulmonary disease diagnoses and treatment in populations highly vulnerable to lung disease.

Abstract Huntington’s disease (HD) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder caused by the extension of the CAG repeats in exon 1 of the HTT gene and is transmitted in a dominant manner. The present study aimed to assess whether patients’ sex, in the context of mutated and normal allele length, contributes to age on onset (AO) of HD. The study population comprised a large cohort of 3723 HD patients from the European Huntington’s Disease Network’s REGISTRY database collected at 160 sites across 17 European countries and in one location outside Europe. The data were analyzed using regression models and factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) considering both mutated allele length and sex as predictors of patients’ AO. AO, as described by the rater’s estimate, was found to be later in affected women than in men across the whole population. This difference was most pronounced in a subgroup of 1273 patients with relatively short variants of the mutated allele (40–45 CAG repeats) and normal alleles in a higher half of length distribution—namely, more than 17 CAG repeats; however, it was also observed in each group. Our results presented in this observational study point to sex-related differences in AO, most pronounced in the presence of the short mutated and long normal allele, which may add to understanding the dynamics of AO in Huntington’s Disease. Objectives. This study aims to characterize the exposure of Mexican young university students to internet audiovisual content and analyze their subjective experiences in consuming such content. Material and Methods. A multiple case study design was employed utilizing content analysis as an analytical strategy. Data were collected through a 15-item semi-structured interview, validated by experts calculating the content validity coefficient (CVC) before initiating data collection. Results. Sixteen participants were evaluated. Data analysis considered two general categories: A) Exposure to audiovisual content (types of media, initial devices used for viewing playful content, variations in consumption times, historical patterns of audiovisual content consumption); and B) Subjective experience of audiovisual content consumption (emotions associated with consumption, positive and negative perceptions). Category A yielded two main results: 1) Mobile devices facilitated access to audiovisual content, though television and video games remained the primary means of entry; and 2) participants exhibited a shift in interests towards more specialized content during their university years. Concerning category B, participants reported seeking audiovisual content to experience specific emotions such as fear and joy. Additionally, they highlighted benefits like social connection, entertainment, and learning. However, some reported negative effects, including experiencing negative emotions and a perceived lack of control over the time spent consuming audiovisual content. Conclusions. This research contributes to the understanding of audiovisual content consumption habits in young university students. It seeks to identify how the consumption of such content positively and negatively impacts their emotions, entertainment experiences, learning, and socialization processes. Furthermore, the study aims to shed light on potential risks associated with problematic usage patterns.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices—by which companies contribute positively to society through their voluntary actions and initiatives—have advanced slowly in Russia. In Russia, the separation between the state and business is not clear, as is the difference between state-owned companies and nominally ‘private’—but still state-controlled—companies, and this has shaped CSR. CSR as practiced in Russia is state-initiated to an extent greater than that in many other countries. The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO), in the Russian Arctic, has a significant population of indigenous people whose way of life has traditionally been based on reindeer herding, fishing and other subsistence activities that are threatened by the ecological damage caused by the hydrocarbon extraction that is carried out in the region by large state-owned or state-controlled corporations such as the parastatal corporation Gazprom. CSR has the potential to ameliorate some of the problems faced by residents of the YNAO, including difficulties relating to transportation, the supply of goods, health care and environmental protection. To achieve this, the CSR roles of the different parties involved need to be better defined and the CSR actions should shift emphasis from modernizing the larger settlements of the YNAO to improving the lives of people who maintain a more traditional way of life on the tundra. Drawing on interviews, government and company documents, and Russian and non-Russian scholarly papers, this Perspective piece considers some aspects of CSR in the YNAO and points to topics of future research.

Abstract Background The Catalan Cancer Plan (CCP) undertakes periodic audits of cancer treatment outcomes, including organ/space surgical site infections (O/S-SSI) rates, while the Catalan Healthcare-associated Infections Surveillance Programme (VINCat) carries out standardized prospective surveillance of surgical site infections (SSI) in colorectal surgery. This cohort study aimed to assess the concordance between these two monitoring systems for O/S-SSI following primary rectal cancer surgery. Methods The study compared O/S-SSI incidence data from CCP clinical audits versus the VINCat Programme in patients undergoing surgery for primary rectal cancer, in 2011-12 and 2015-16, in publicly funded centres in Spain. The main outcome variable was the incidence of O/S-SSI in the first 30 days after surgery. Concordance between the two registers was analysed using Cohen’s kappa. Discordant cases were reviewed by an expert, and the main reasons for discrepancies evaluated. Results Pooling data from both databases generated a sample of 2867 patients. Of these, O/S-SSI was detected in 414 patients—235 were common to both registry systems, with satisfactory concordance (κ = 0.69, 95% confidence interval 0.65–0.73). The rate of discordance from the CCP (positive cases in VINCat and negative in CCP) was 2.7%, and from VINCat (positive in CCP and negative in VINCat) was 3.6%. External review confirmed O/S-SSI in 66.2% of the cases in the CCP registry and 52.9% in VINCat. Conclusions This type of synergy shows the potential of pooling data from two different information sources with a satisfactory level of agreement as a means to improving O/S-SSI detection. This study investigates the mediating role of self-efficacy in the relationship between school principals' instructional leadership behaviors and teachers' positive instructional emotions (enjoyment, pride, and hope). The study sample consisted of 380 teachers (from primary to high school) working in Batman, Turkey, during the 2020-2021 academic year. A two-stage sampling procedure (criterion sampling, and convenient sampling) was employed. The data collection procedure was carried out online. To test the hypotheses, we employed structural equation modeling. The findings indicated statistically significant relationships between instructional leadership, teachers' self-efficacy, and positive instructional emotions. As for predictive relationships, instructional leadership significantly predicted teachers' self-efficacy and positive instructional emotions. On the other hand, self-efficacy predicted positive instructional emotions and mediated the relationship between instructional leadership and emotions. These findings provide evidence that school principals can help teachers experience positive emotions during instruction by nurturing their self-efficacy perceptions through instructional leadership behaviors.

This study investigates the mediating role of organizational commitment on the relationship between principals' empowering leadership and teachers' job performance. To this end, it employed a cross-sectional design, one of the quantitative methods. Data were collected through the "Empowering Leadership Behaviors Scale", "Organizational Commitment Scale" and "Job Performance Scale". The sample consisted of 324 teachers working in different cities in Turkey. They were employed through convenience sampling and responded to the scales online. Predictive relationships between variables were revealed using a structural equation model. Before testing the structural model, the validity of the scales and measurement model was investigated. The findings indicated that validity and reliability of scales were ensured. On the other hand, the fit indices regarding the measurement model satisfied the cutoff values in the literature. Since the data did not satisfy the multivariate normal distribution assumption, bootstrapping was used. The findings indicated that empowering leadership is positively associated with teachers' job performance and organizational commitment. On the other hand, organizational commitment boosts job performance. Lastly, empowering school leadership enhances organizational commitment, which in turn teachers' job performance. Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a neglected vector-borne disease which is endemic in many countries across Africa and has seen recent geographical expansions into the Arabian Peninsula. RVF can cause severe infections in both animals and humans. RVF infections in livestock can lead to mass fatalities. In humans, the symptoms are nonspecific and can often lead to misdiagnosis. However, a small proportion progresses to haemorrhagic infection with a significantly higher mortality rate. The culmination of this can cause severe socioeconomic impacts. This review aims to identify the main socioeconomic impacts caused by RVF outbreaks as well as existing knowledge gaps. Ninety-three academic and grey papers were selected, covering 19 countries and 10 methodological approaches. A variety of socioeconomic impacts were found across all levels of society: Livestock trade disruptions consequently impacted local food security, local and national economies. Most livestock farmers in endemic countries are subsistence farmers and so rely on their livestock for sustenance and income. RVF outbreaks resulted in a variety of socioeconomic impacts, e.g., the inability to pay for school fees. Main barriers to vaccine uptake in communities were lack of access, funds, interest along with other social aspects. The occupational risks for women (and pregnant women) are largely unknown. To our knowledge, this is the first review on RVF to highlight the clear knowledge gap surrounding the potential gender differences on risks of RVF exposure, as well as differences on occupational health risk in pastoral communities. Further work is required to fill the gaps identified in this review and inform control policies.

Abstract Background Dose-escalated radiotherapy is known to improve progression free survival in patients with localized prostate cancer, and recent advances have led to the standardization of ultrahypofractionated stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) delivered in just 5-fractions. Based on the known effectiveness of the accepted though invasive 2-fraction treatment method of high-dose-rate brachytherapy and given the ubiquity of prostate cancer, a further reduction in the number of treatments of external-beam SABR is possible. This study aims to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and non-inferiority of generalizable 2-fraction SABR compared to the current 5-fraction regimen. Methods 502 patients will be enrolled on this phase II/III randomized control trial. Eligible patients will have previously untreated low- or favorable intermediate-risk adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Patients will be randomized between standard SABR of 40 Gy in 5 fractions given every-other-day and 27 Gy in 2 fractions at least two days apart but completing within seven days. MRI-based planning, radiopaque hydrogel spacer insertion, and fiducial marker placement are required, and SABR will be delivered on either a standard CT-guided linear accelerator or MR-LINAC. The primary endpoint will be freedom from disease progression, with additional secondary clinical, toxicity, and quality of life endpoints. Discussion This study will be the largest prospective randomized trial, adequately powered to demonstrate non-inferiority, comparing 2-fraction SABR to standard 5-fraction SABR for localized prostate cancer. As the protocol does not obligate use of an MRI-LINAC or other adaptive technologies, results will be broadly generalizable to the wider community. Respiratory diseases, spanning from the common cold to severe conditions such as pneumonia and COVID-19, pose significant challenges to global health and contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality. The emergence of COVID-19 has heightened the requirement for effective therapeutic strategies. This review article examines the potential of specific medicinal plants, namely Black Cumin, Licorice, and Echinacea, and their phytoconstituents in the treatment of respiratory diseases, with a focus on COVID-19. It synthesizes extant knowledge on the therapeutic efficacy of these plants, which have been used traditionally in Unani, Ayurvedic, and Chinese medicine to alleviate respiratory symptoms and boost immune functions. This review also discusses the immunomodulatory and antiviral properties of these three specific medicinal plants, as well as their function in the treatment of a number of life-threatening diseases. Incorporating insights from ethnomedicine and contemporary scientific research, this review highlights the urgency of exploring herbal medicines as complementary therapies for respiratory diseases and offers perspectives on incorporating these natural remedies into contemporary treatment paradigms, particularly in the fight against COVID-19. Abstract Common mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) deletions are large structural variants in the mitochondrial genome that accumulate in metabolically active tissues with age and have been investigated in various diseases. We applied the Splice-Break2 pipeline (designed for high-throughput quantification of mtDNA deletions) to human RNA-Seq datasets and describe the methodological considerations for evaluating common deletions in bulk, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomics datasets. A robust evaluation of 1570 samples from 14 RNA-Seq studies showed: (i) the abundance of some common deletions detected in PCR-amplified mtDNA correlates with levels observed in RNA-Seq data; (ii) RNA-Seq library preparation method has a strong effect on deletion detection; (iii) deletions had a significant, positive correlation with age in brain and muscle; (iv) deletions were enriched in cortical grey matter, specifically in layers 3 and 5; and (v) brain regions with dopaminergic neurons (i.e., substantia nigra, ventral tegmental area, and caudate nucleus) had remarkable enrichment of common mtDNA deletions.

Clinical and preclinical studies suggest that some of the behavioral alterations observed in schizophrenia (SZ) may be mechanistically linked to synaptic dysfunction of glutamatergic signaling. Recent genetic and proteomic studies suggest alterations of cortical glutamate receptors of the AMPA-type (AMPARs), which are the predominant ligand-gated ionic channels of fast transmission at excitatory synapses. The impact of gene and protein alterations on the electrophysiological activity of AMPARs is not known in SZ. In this proof of principle work, using human postmortem brain synaptic membranes isolated from the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), we combined electrophysiological analysis from microtransplanted synaptic membranes (MSM) with transcriptomic (RNA-Seq) and label-free proteomics data in 10 control and 10 subjects diagnosed with SZ. We observed in SZ a reduction in the amplitude of AMPARs currents elicited by kainate, an agonist of AMPARs that blocks the desensitization of the receptor. This reduction was not associated with protein abundance but with a reduction in kainates potency to activate AMPARs. Electrophysiologically-anchored dataset analysis (EDA) was used to identify synaptosomal proteins that linearly correlate with the amplitude of the AMPARs responses, gene ontology functional annotations were then used to determine protein-protein interactions. Protein modules associated with positive AMPARs current increases were downregulated in SZ, while protein modules that were upregulated in SZ were associated with decreased AMPARs currents. Our results indicate that transcriptomic and proteomic alterations, frequently observed in the DLPFC in SZ, converge at the synaptic level producing a functional electrophysiological impairment of AMPARs.

This study investigated the mediating role of initiative climate on the relationship between distributed leadership and organizational resilience in schools. The study employed a cross-sectional design following quantitative methods. The sample consisted of 310 teachers recruited from different cities located in seven geographical regions of Turkey in 2020-2021 academic year using convenience sampling. Data were collected online (Google Forms) using the "Distributed Leadership Inventory," "Personal Initiative Scale," and "Organizational Resilience Scale," all of which had acceptable validity and reliability. Participants "agreed" with initiative climate and organizational resilience in schools and school principals' distributed leadership behaviors. There were positive correlations between the variables. The results showed that distributed leadership (leadership coherence and leadership functions) fosters initiative climate and organizational resilience in schools. Initiative climate also contributes to organizational resilience in schools. Lastly, it can be said that distributed leadership has a significant effect on schools' resilience through initiative climate.

Objective To evaluate cognitive function in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory activity.Patients and methods We performed a cross-sectional study of a cohort of patients with RA initiating their first biological treatment due to moderate-to-high inflammation and a healthy control group (no inflammatory diseases) matched for age, sex and educational level. IntroductionLrba is a cytoplasmic protein involved in vesicular trafficking. Lrba-deficient (Lrba-/-) mice exhibit substantially higher levels of IgA in both serum and feces than wild-type (WT) mice. Transforming growth factor β1 (TGFβ1) and its receptors (TGFβR I and II) is essential for differentiating IgA+ B cells. Furthermore, increased IgA production suggests a potential connection between Lrba and the TGFβR signaling pathway in IgA production. However, the specific function of Lrba in B cell biology remains unknown.AimGiven the increased IgA levels in Lrba-/- mice, the goal in this work was to explore the lymph organs where the switch to IgA occurs, and if TGFβR function is affected.MethodsNon-immunized Lrba-/- mice were compared with Lrba+/+ mice. IgA levels in the serum and feces, as well as during peripheral B cell development, were determined. IgA+ B cells and plasma cells were assessed in the small intestine and secondary lymphoid organs, such as the spleen, mesenteric lymph nodes, and Peyer’s patches. The TGFβR signaling pathway was evaluated by determining the expression of TGFβR on B cells. Additionally, SMAD2 phosphorylation was measured under basal conditions and in response to recombinant TGFβ. Finally, confocal microscopy was performed to investigate a possible interaction between Lrba and TGFβR in B cells.ResultsLrba-/- mice exhibited significantly higher levels of circulating IgA, IgA+ B, and plasma cells than in peripheral lymphoid organs those in WT mice. TGFβR expression on the membrane of B cells was similar in both Lrba-/- and Lrba+/+ mice. However, intracellular TGFβR expression was reduced in Lrba-/- mice. SMAD2 phosphorylation showed increased levels under basal conditions; stimulation with recombinant TGFβ elicited a poorer response than in that in Lrba+/+ B cells. Finally, we found that Lrba colocalizes with TGFβR in B cells.ConclusionLrba is essential in controlling TGFβR signaling, subsequently regulating SMAD2 phosphorylation on B cells. This mechanism may explain the increased differentiation of IgA+ B cells and production of IgA-producing plasma cells.

IntroductionPrecise patient positioning with image guidance (IGRT) is essential for safe prostate radiotherapy. We present the first report of utilizing a CT-visible hydrogel spacer, used to decrease rectal radiation dose, as a surrogate fiducial marker to aid in daily IGRT with cone-beam CT (CBCT) in stereotactic radiotherapy (SABR) for prostate cancer.Materials and methodsPrior to CT simulation, patients underwent placement of three intraprostatic gold fiducial markers and radiopaque hydrogel spacer per standard practice. At treatment, after initial setup, a CBCT was acquired and fused to the planning CT based on 3-dimensional matching of the spacer. A second alignment was then performed based on the fiducial markers. The six directional shifts (three linear and three rotational) were recorded, and the differences compared.Results140 individual fractions across 41 consecutive patients were evaluated. Mean/median differences between hydrogel spacer-based and fiducial-based alignment in linear (vertical, longitudinal, lateral) and rotational (rotation, pitch, roll) shifts were 0.9/0.6mm, 0.8/0.5mm, and 0.6/0.4mm, and 0.38/0, 0.62/0, and 0.35/0 degrees, respectively. No difference was observed in 9.9%, 22.9%, and 22.14% of linear shifts, and 65.7%, 65%, and 66.4% rotational shifts, respectively. Significantly smaller differences were observed in the latter 70 fractions vs. the former, and results were consistent across evaluators.ConclusionsFor precise daily IGRT with CBCT for prostate SABR, alignment using a radiopaque hydrogel spacer was highly comparable to intraprostatic fiducial markers. This represents the first report supporting an additional indication of IGRT for a CT-visible hydrogel spacer, to further enhance treatment accuracy and potentially obviate the need for the additional fiducial marker procedure.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks affecting Asiatic black bears (Ursus thibetanus) and a Malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) were previously reported in 2011 in two housing facilities at a Vietnamese bear rescue centre. In this study, demographic data of all animals housed in the centre at the time of the outbreaks (n = 79) were collected. Blood samples drawn from 23 bears at different timepoints were tested for FMDV-specific antibodies targeting using a non-structural protein (NSP) ELISA and by virus neutralisation test (VNT). The relationship between seroconversion and clinical signs was explored and epidemic curves and transmission diagrams were generated for each outbreak, where FMD cases were defined as animals showing FMD clinical signs. Outbreak-specific attack rates were 18.75 and 77.77%, with corresponding basic reproduction numbers of 1.11 and 1.92, for the first and second outbreaks, respectively. Analyses of risk factors showed that after adjusting for sex there was strong evidence for a decrease in odds of showing clinical signs per year of age. All samples collected from bears before the outbreak tested negative to NSP and VNT. All cases tested positive to VNT following onset of clinical signs and remained positive during the rest of the follow up period, while only 6 out of 17 cases tested positive to NSP after developing clinical signs. Six animals without clinical signs were tested post outbreaks; five seroconverted using VNT and three animals were seropositive using NSP ELISA. This study provides initial epidemiological parameters of FMD in captive bears, showing that FMDV is easily spread between bears in close proximity and can cause clinical and subclinical disease, both of which appear to induce rapid and long-lasting immunity.

The recent geopolitical events, such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, have strained the available resources worldwide. In emerging economies like Bangladesh, which is heavily reliant on imported gas, oil, and coal, this has created a severe energy crisis. In response to the energy crisis and to support eco-friendly waste management, converting waste into energy is being recognized as a promising solution. However, introducing waste-to-energy systems in developing economies faces many intricate challenges that require careful examination. This study, therefore, aims to explore and evaluate the challenges associated with adopting a waste to energy (WtE) conversion system in emerging economies like Bangladesh. The research methodology involves identifying challenges from an extensive review of existing literature and expert feedback and then combining Bayesian theory with Best Worst Method (BWM) to evaluate the challenges. Among the 21 challenges analyzed, the ‘need for well-developed planning and incentivized policymaking’, ‘ineffectiveness in waste segregation at the source’, and ‘high cost for installation, maintenance, and infrastructure development’ appear to be the most significant challenges with weight values 0.071, 0.067, and 0.066, respectively. The study can enhance managers' understanding of the challenges faced by this sector and thus facilitate informed decision-making. The outcomes of this study are expected to enrich the existing body of knowledge, promote the diffusion of WtE technology in emerging economies, reduce dependency on the international energy market, and achieve global sustainable development goals (SDGs) such as affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), and climate action (SDG 13).
