Global control of infectious diseases depends on the continuous development and deployment of diverse vaccination strategies. Currently available live-attenuated and killed virus vaccines typically take a week or longer to activate specific protection by the adaptive immunity. The mosquito-transmitted Nodamura virus (NoV) is attenuated in mice by mutations that prevent expression of the B2 viral suppressor of RNA interference (VSR) and consequently, drastically enhance in vivo production of the virus-targeting small-interfering RNAs. We reported recently that 2 d after immunization with live-attenuated VSR-disabled NoV (NoVΔB2), neonatal mice become fully protected against lethal NoV challenge and develop no detectable infection. Using Rag1-/- mice that produce no mature B and T lymphocytes as a model, here we examined the hypothesis that adaptive immunity is dispensable for the RNAi-based protective immunity activated by NoVΔB2 immunization. We show that immunization of both neonatal and adult Rag1-/- mice with live but not killed NoVΔB2 induces full protection against NoV challenge at 2 or 14 d postimmunization. Moreover, NoVΔB2-induced protective antiviral immunity is virus-specific and remains effective in adult Rag1-/- mice 42 and 90 d after a single-shot immunization. We conclude that immunization with the live-attenuated VSR-disabled RNA virus vaccine activates rapid and long-lasting protective immunity against lethal challenges by a distinct mechanism independent of the adaptive immunity mediated by B and T cells. Future studies are warranted to determine whether additional animal and human viruses attenuated by VSR inactivation induce similar protective immunity in healthy and adaptive immunity-compromised individuals.

Abstract Spinal cord injury (SCI) often accompanies impairment of motor function, yet there is currently no highly effective treatment method specifically for this condition. Oxidative stress and inflammation are pivotal factors contributing to severe neurological deficits after SCI. In this study, a type of curcumin (Cur) nanoparticle (HA-CurNPs) was developed to address this challenge by alleviating oxidative stress and inflammation. Through non-covalent interactions, curcumin (Cur) and poly (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (pEGCG) are co-encapsulated within hyaluronic acid (HA), resulting in nanoparticles termed HA-CurNPs. These nanoparticles gradually release curcumin and pEGCG at the SCI site. The released pEGCG and curcumin not only scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and prevents apoptosis, thereby improving the neuronal microenvironment, but also regulate CD74 to promote microglial polarization toward an M2 phenotype, and inhibits M1 polarization, thereby suppressing the inflammatory response and fostering neuronal regeneration. Moreover, in vivo experiments on SCI mice demonstrate that HA-CurNPs effectively protect neuronal cells and myelin, reduce glial scar formation, thereby facilitating the repair of damaged spinal cord tissues, restoring electrical signaling at the injury site, and improving motor functions. Overall, this study demonstrates that HA-CurNPs significantly reduce oxidative stress and inflammation following SCI, markedly improving motor function in SCI mice. This provides a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of SCI.

Abstract Aberrant caspase recruitment domain family member 14 (CARD14) signaling has been strongly associated with inflammatory skin conditions. CARD14 acts as a scaffold protein, ultimately activating the transcription factor NF-KB. Although primarily studied in the context of inflammation, recent research has suggested its potential implications in tumorigenesis. In this study, we gathered The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) tumor data to gauge the involvement of CARD14 in cancer, including genetic alterations, expression patterns, survival correlations, immune cell infiltration and functional interactions across diverse cancer types. We found heightened CARD14 expression in most tumors and there was a significant correlation between CARD14 expression and the prognosis of patients for certain tumors. For instance, patients with higher CARD14 expression had a better prognosis in sarcoma, lung, cervix and head and neck cancers. Moreover, CARD14 expression positively correlated with neutrophil infiltration in most of the cancer types analyzed. Finally, enrichment analysis showed that epithelial development and differentiation pathways were involved in the functional mechanism of CARD14. Our results show that CARD14 may have the potential to become a prognostic biomarker in several cancers, hence, further prospective studies will be required for its validation.

Abstract Leading digital innovation projects in smart cities requires the right human resources with the right set of competencies. Such requirement is challenging because city managers and built environment professionals are traditionally trained and work in disciplinary and professional silos. This results in a lack of knowledge, abilities, and tools to produce optimal outcomes for communities across multiple sectors. Guided by a socio‐technical and multidisciplinary approach, the DC2‐CF framework is proposed to help urban planners identify, develop and expand the competencies they need to effectively steer responsible digital innovation and ensure public value creation. The DC2‐CF proposes a digital innovation process model to facilitate the delivery of successful urban digital innovation projects based on the lessons learned from working with city digital leaders. In addition, the DC2‐CF provides a delivery structure which identifies specific tasks, competencies, and roles necessary to enable the use off the innovation process model in practice and break down the professional silos currently existing in cities. The framework is envisioned to assist city planners in fostering leadership capacity in local authorities and the private sector in digital city development, contributing to enhancing collaborative working and effective public value creation.

Abstract Background This paper reviews the scope of research on kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery. Further, it reviews the current situation, evaluation tools, risk factors, adverse effects, and intervention methods of kinesiophobia to provide a reference for promoting early rehabilitation of patients after cardiac surgery. Methods Guided by the scoping methodology, the Web of Science, PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, China Biomedical Literature Database, VIP Database, Wanfang Database, CNKI, and other databases were searched from database inception until July 31, 2024. The studies obtained were screened, summarised and systematically analysed by two researchers. Results Eighteen studies (16 cross-sectional studies, one qualitative study, and one randomised controlled trial) were included. The incidence of kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery was 39.20–82.57%, and the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart (TSK-SV Heart) was used to evaluate this incidence. The influencing factors of kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery included demographic characteristics, pain severity, frailty, exercise self-efficacy, disease-related factors, and psychosocial factors. Kinesiophobia led to adverse health outcomes such as reduced recovery, prolonged hospital stays, and decreased quality of life in patients after cardiac surgery, and there were few studies on intervention methods for postoperative kinesiophobia. Conclusion The kinesiophobia assessment tools suitable for patients after cardiac surgery should be improved, and intervention methods to promote the early recovery of patients after major clinical surgery and those with difficult and critical diseases should be actively researched.

One mechanism proposed to explain high species diversity in tropical systems is strong negative conspecific density dependence (CDD), which reduces recruitment of juveniles in proximity to conspecific adult plants. Although evidence shows that plant-specific soil pathogens can drive negative CDD, trees also form key mutualisms with mycorrhizal fungi, which may counteract these effects. Across 43 large-scale forest plots worldwide, we tested whether ectomycorrhizal tree species exhibit weaker negative CDD than arbuscular mycorrhizal tree species. We further tested for conmycorrhizal density dependence (CMDD) to test for benefit from shared mutualists. We found that the strength of CDD varies systematically with mycorrhizal type, with ectomycorrhizal tree species exhibiting higher sapling densities with increasing adult densities than arbuscular mycorrhizal tree species. Moreover, we found evidence of positive CMDD for tree species of both mycorrhizal types. Collectively, these findings indicate that mycorrhizal interactions likely play a foundational role in global forest diversity patterns and structure.

This is an article in the field of mineral processing engineering. A pegmatitic lithium polymetallic mine in Xinjiang Province, in which the main target mineral is spodumene, accompanied by a small amount of niobium-tantalite, and the gangue minerals are mainly feldspar, quartz and mica. In this article, the DMS test is carried out for the spodumene ore firstly. The middling of DMS and the fine sample of -0.6 mm are combined as feed for flotation test. After grinding the feed, the systematic flotation tests were carried out. Finally, as to the raw ore containing Li2O 1.68%, by adopting the combined technology of DMS-Flotation, the dense medium concentrate obtained contains Li2O 6.5% and 51.58% of recovery, the flotation concentrate obtained contains Li2O 5.37%, and 31.94% of recovery. The total concentrate contains Li2O 6.02%, and the recovery is 83.52%. DMS for this spodumene ore can directly produce high-grade concentrate with a recovery of 50%, and discard tailings with a yield of 43%, which can greatly save the cost of crushing grinding.

Abstract Passivation materials play a crucial role in a wide range of high-efficiency, high-stability photovoltaic applications based on crystalline silicon and state-of-the-art perovskite materials. Currently, for perovskite photovoltaic, the mainstream passivation strategies routinely rely on crystalline materials. Herein, we have invented a new amorphous (lysine)2PbI2 layer-enhanced halide perovskite. By utilizing a solid phase reaction between PbI2 and lysine molecule, an amorphous (lysine)2PbI2 layer is formed at surface/grain boundaries in the perovskite films. The amorphous (lysine)2PbI2 with fewer dangling bonds can effectively neutralize surface/interface defects, achieving an impressive efficiency of 26.27% (certified 25.94%). Moreover, this amorphous layer not only reduces crystal lattice stress but also functions as a barrier against the decomposition of organic components, leading to suppressed de-structuring of perovskite and highly stable perovskite solar cells.

The aim of this study is to assess the impact of serum magnesium (Mg) levels on prognostic outcomes in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergoing treatment with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKI). A cohort comprising 91 patients with NSCLC with epidermal growth factor receptor mutations received EGFR-TKI therapy. Assessments of liver and kidney function and electrolyte levels were conducted before treatment initiation and after completing two cycles of EGFR-TKI therapy. Data on variables such as age, gender, presence of distant metastasis, smoking history, other therapeutic interventions, and the specific TKI used were collected for analysis. Cox regression analysis revealed that patients with higher Mg levels prior to EGFR-TKI therapy had significantly longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Elevated Mg levels remained predictive of PFS and OS after two cycles of EGFR-TKI therapy. Multiple regression analysis confirmed these findings. Additionally, it was observed that smokers might represent a unique population, demonstrating a correlation between OS and Mg levels. Our findings indicate that serum Mg level is a prognostic factor in patients with NSCLC undergoing EGFR-TKI therapy. This may provide new insights into the underlying mechanisms of EGFR-TKI therapy related to electrolyte balance.

Abstract Purpose To examine residents’ first-aid kit preparation and its influencing factors. Design Cross-sectional survey. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 449 permanent residents in Sichuan Province using convenience sampling. We examined participants’ demographic characteristics, self-efficacy, health literacy, and personality. Findings Of the participants, 111 (24.7%) stocked a home first-aid kit. The most frequent supplies were disinfection supplies (91.9%), common medicines (86.5%), and dressing supplies (76.6%). Family per capita monthly income, medical expenses payment method, chronic diseases, general self-efficacy, and health literacy were influencing factors of family first-aid kit preparedness. Conclusion A multilevel and interactive emergency literacy education system should be established to improve residents’ abilities to prevent emergencies.

Abstract Interleukin-17A therapeutic inhibitors are among the most effective treatment methods for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis (PP). Reflectance confocal microscopy is a non-invasive imaging technique already documented to be beneficial in evaluating the follow-up of PP under treatment with topical actives and phototherapy. This study aimed to assess the epidermal and dermal changes associated with psoriasis and its treatment with RCM during systemic secukinumab treatment in patients with moderate-to-severe PP. A pilot study was conducted to evaluate RCM as a non-invasive tool for monitoring secukinumab treatment in patients with PP. For patients receiving secukinumab treatment, lesional skin was selected for RCM imaging, which were recorded at all scheduled times. The RCM evaluation criteria were established based on the histopathological diagnostic criteria for psoriasis. The clinical severity of psoriasis was assessed utilizing the psoriasis area severity index. A total of 23 patients with PP were included in the study. Each patient received 300 mg of subcutaneous secukinumab as induction therapy at baseline and weeks 1–4, followed by maintenance therapy every four weeks. Microscopic confocal changes were observed during the treatment. The results identified early microscopic evidence of the anti-inflammatory activity of secukinumab, which was not detected during the clinical examination. RCM findings correlating with the PASI were used to observe the patient’s response to treatment and were identified as follows: acanthosis and parakeratosis, presence of epidermal and dermal inflammatory cells, presence of non-edge dermal papillae, and vascularization in the papillary dermis. This study is the first to demonstrate the use of RCM as an effective tool for non-invasive monitoring of secukinumab therapeutic response at a cellular level in a clinical or research setting. Early detection of RCM parameters associated with secukinumab activity may facilitate the identification of an early treatment response. RCM appears to be capable of providing practical and helpful information regarding follow-up in patients with PP undergoing secukinumab treatment. RCM may also provide novel perspectives on the subclinical evaluation of PP’s response to biological therapy.

Abstract Background Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic inflammatory disease, characterized by the presence of non-caseating, epithelioid granulomas. Glomerular disease in patients with sarcoidosis is rare and membranous nephropathy (MN) is cited as the most common. The association between the two diseases remained unclear. This article reported a case of co-occurrence of sarcoidosis and anti-PLA2R-associated MN, to provide a possible relationship between these two entities. Case presentation A 61-year-old Chinese Han woman with a history of sarcoidosis was admitted to our hospital for nephrotic syndrome. Her sarcoidosis was diagnosed according to the adenopathy observed on the computed tomography scan and the biopsy of lymph nodes. The MN presented with nephrotic syndrome with a PLA2R antibody titer of 357RU/ml, and the final diagnosis was based on a renal biopsy. The patient’s sarcoidosis was remitted after treatment with prednisone. One year later MN was diagnosed, and she was treated with prednisone combined with calcineurin inhibitors, based on a full dose of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) inhibitor. The patient’s sarcoidosis had been in remission while the MN was recurrent, and her renal function deteriorated to end-stage renal disease 6 years later due to discontinuation of immunosuppression. A genetic test led to the identification of the HLA-DRB1*0301 and HLA-DRB1*150 genes associated with both sarcoidosis and MN, which provides a new possible explanation of the co-occurrence of these two diseases. Conclusion This case suggested for the first time a potential genetic connection between idiopathic MN and sarcoidosis which needs further studies in the future.

The catalytic mechanism of N2 fixation by nitrogenase remains unresolved in how the strong N≡N bond is activated and why the reductive elimination of H2 is required. Here, we use density functional theory and physiologically relevant thermal simulations to elucidate the mechanism of the complete nitrogenase catalytic cycle. Over the accumulation of four reducing equivalents, we find that protons and electrons transfer to the FeMo cofactor to weaken and break its bridge Fe–S bond, leading to temporary H2S formation that exposes the Fe sites to weakly bind N2. Remarkably, we find that subsequent H2 formation is responsible for chemical activation to an N=N double bond accompanied by a low barrier for H2 release. We emphasize that finite temperature effects smooth out mechanistic differences between DFT functionals observed at 0 K, thus leading to a consistent understanding as to why H formation is an obligatory step in N2 adsorption and activation.

Immune recognition of viral genome-derived double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) molecules and their subsequent processing into small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) in plants, invertebrates, and mammals trigger specific antiviral immunity known as antiviral RNA interference (RNAi). Immune sensing of viral dsRNA is sequence-independent, and most regions of viral RNAs are targeted by virus-derived siRNAs which extensively overlap in sequence. Thus, the high mutation rates of viruses do not drive immune escape from antiviral RNAi, in contrast to other mechanisms involving specific virus recognition by host immune proteins such as antibodies and resistance (R) proteins in mammals and plants, respectively. Instead, viruses actively suppress antiviral RNAi at various key steps with a group of proteins known as viral suppressors of RNAi (VSRs). Some VSRs are so effective in virus counter-defense that potent inhibition of virus infection by antiviral RNAi is undetectable unless the cognate VSR is rendered nonexpressing or nonfunctional. Since viral proteins are often multifunctional, resistance phenotypes of antiviral RNAi are accurately defined by those infection defects of VSR-deletion mutant viruses that are efficiently rescued by host deficiency in antiviral RNAi. Here, we review and discuss in vivo infection defects of VSR-deficient RNA and DNA viruses resulting from the actions of host antiviral RNAi in model systems.

Chronic pain (CP) affects over 30 % of the global population, imposing significant financial burdens on individuals and society. However, existing treatments for CP offer limited efficacy and troublesome side effects, primarily owing to a lack of knowledge of its precise underlying mechanism. Pathological stimuli disrupt the intricate process of protein folding and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis. This disruption leads to the accumulation of misfolded or unfolded proteins in the ER, generating a condition termed ER stress. Emerging data have indicated that ER stress, occurring in the peripheral and central nervous systems, contributes to the development and maintenance of CP. This review aimed to comprehensively explore the intersection of ER stress and CP within the lower and upper nervous systems and highlight the cell-specific contributions of the unfolded protein response in different CP types. We provide a comprehensive synthesis of evidence from animal models, examining neuronal and non-neuronal mechanisms and discuss the damaging ER stress-linked inflammation, autophagy, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, which collectively drive disease progression and contribute to a neurotoxic environment. However, the mechanisms through which ER stress influences the most advanced centre-of-pain projections in the brain remain unclear. Further investigation in this area is crucial to elucidate the relationship between ER stress and CP and facilitate the development of novel therapeutic drugs for this intractable dilemma.

Cadmium is a significant environmental pollutant that poses a substantial health hazard to humans due to its propensity to accumulate in the body and resist excretion. We have a comprehensive understanding of the damage caused by Cd exposure and the mechanisms of tolerance, however, the intricate mechanisms underlying multigenerational effects resulting from Cd exposure remain poorly understood. In this study, Caenorhabditis elegans were used as a model organism to investigate Cd-induced multigenerational effects and its association with epigenetic modifications. The results showed that Cd exposure leads to an increase in germ cell apoptosis and a decrease in fertility, which can be passed down to subsequent generations. Further analysis revealed that transcription factors DAF-16/FOXO and SKN-1/Nrf2 play essential roles in responding to Cd exposure and in the transgenerational induction of germ cell apoptosis. Additionally, histone H3K4 trimethylation (H3K4me3) marks stress-responsive genes and enhances their transcription, ultimately triggering multigenerational germ cell apoptosis. This study provides compelling evidence that the detrimental effects of Cd on the reproductive system can be inherited across generations. These findings enhance our understanding of the multigenerational effects of environmental pollutants and may inform strategies for the prevention and control of such pollutants.

Background: Huashi Baidu granule (HSBD), an approved herbal formula for treating COVID-19, demonstrates safety and efficacy. Despite its market approval, the detailed methodology and identification of its active components remain unexplored, leaving its bioactive constituents and action mechanisms unclear. Methods: This study investigated the potential mechanisms of HSBD’s active ingredient in treating COVID-19. Our approach integrated various techniques, including the UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS method, analysis of the GEO database, network pharmacology, surface plasmon resonance, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations, to formulate a comprehensive research strategy. Results: The UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS method employed for HSBD analysis proved stable, reliable, and reproducible. We identified 25 principal components in HSBD, with 7 compounds detected in plasma, namely Pogostone, P-Hydroxybenzoic acid, Paeoniflorin, Rhein, Emodin, Ephedrine hydrochloride, and Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network analysis identified MMP9 as a pivotal target. Surface plasmon resonance analysis revealed that Paeoniflorin and Rhein exert their antiviral effects by interacting with RBD and ACE2. In contrast, Emodin’s antiviral mechanism predominantly involves binding to MMP9. Molecular docking results indicated strong binding affinities of Rhein and Paeoniflorin to the hACE2 protein, and high binding affinities of Emodin to the MMP9 protein, all of which were corroborated by molecular dynamics simulations. Conclusion: We investigated the methodology and identified the active components of HSBD, focusing on those absorbed into the plasma, to elucidate the effective material basis of HSBD in the treatment of COVID-19, our research offered insightful exploration into its mechanisms of action against COVID-19.

Objective To explore circular RNAs(circRNAs) that regulate ferroptosis in cervical cancer,in the development of new therapeutic targets. Methods The differentially expressed circRNAs(DEcircRNAs),differentially expressed microRNAs(DEmiRNAs) and differentially expressed mRNAs(DEmRNAs) between cervical cancer and control groups were analyzed based on GSE102686,TCGA,GSE9750.circRNAs and mRNAs with targeted regulatory relationships with DEmiRNAs were predicted by the Starbase database and compared with differential analysis results.Enrichment analysis of mRNAs was performed to identify mRNAs associated with cell death(cell cycle,apoptosis,and iron death) and to construct relevant competitive endogenous RNAs(ceRNAs) regulatory networks.Univariate Cox regression analysis was performed to identify miRNAs and mRNAs that significantly affect patient outcomes.Cervical cancer tissues and distant control cervical tissue samples from 12 patients with cervical cancer were collected to detect gene expression using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) and Western blot,and targeted binding of genes was detected using a dual-luciferase reporter. Results A total of 179 DEcircRNAs,93 DEmiRNAs,and 739 DEmRNAs were identified between cervical cancer and controls,and 160 DEcircRNAs were found,and 565 DEmRNAs were targeted to DEmiRNAs.The ceRNAs regulatory network of circ_0001461/miR-145-5p/transferrin receptor(TFRC) was finally identified to be associated with ferroptosis.circ_0001461 and TFRC were significantly upregulated and miR-145-5p was downregulated in cervical cancer tissues(P

Abstract Load variation, distributed power output uncertainty and multi‐microgrids network complexity have brought great difficulties to the frequency stability of the whole microgrid. To address this problem, this paper uses a multi‐agent deep reinforcement learning(DRL) algorithm to design the controllers to control the frequency of the multi‐microgrids. Firstly, a load frequency control (LFC) model for multi‐microgrids was built. Secondly, based on the centralized training and decentralized execution (CTDE) multi‐agent reinforcement learning (RL) framework, the multi‐agent soft actor‐critic (MASAC) algorithm was designed and applied to the multi‐microgrids model. The state space and action space of multi‐agent were established according to the frequency deviation of every sub‐microgrid and the output of each distributed power source. The reward function was then established according to the frequency deviation. The appropriate neural network and training parameters were selected to generate the interconnected microgrid controllers through multiple training of pre‐learning. Finally, the simulation study shows that the MASAC controller proposed in this paper can quickly maintain frequency stability when the system is disturbed. Sensitivity analysis shows that the MASAC controller can effectively cope with the uncertainty of the system parameters.

Aberrant tumor blood vessels are prone to propel the malignant progression of tumors, and targeting abnormal metabolism of tumor endothelial cells emerges as a promising option to achieve vascular normalization and antagonize tumor progression. Herein, we demonstrated that salvianic acid A (SAA) played a pivotal role in contributing to vascular normalization in the tumor-bearing mice, thereby improving delivery and effectiveness of the chemotherapeutic agent. SAA was capable of inhibiting glycolysis and strengthening endothelial junctions in the human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) exposed to hypoxia. Mechanistically, SAA was inclined to directly bind to the glycolytic enzyme PKM2, leading to a dramatic decrease in endothelial glycolysis. More importantly, SAA improved the endothelial integrity via activating the β-Catenin/Claudin-5 signaling axis in a PKM2-dependent manner. Our findings suggest that SAA may serve as a potent agent for inducing tumor vascular normalization.

This paper discusses the exponential stability of periodic solutions for stochastic neural networks with multiple time-varying delays. For these networks, sufficient conditions in the linear matrix inequality forms are rare in the literature. We constructed an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional to eliminate the items with multiple delays and establish some sufficient conditions in linear matrix inequality forms, to ensure exponential stability of the periodic solutions. Several examples are provided to demonstrate that our results are effective and less conservative than previous ones.

Abstract In sustaining arch locked-segment-type slopes, natural soil arches play a key anti-sliding role in the slope's evolution. In this study, a self-developed model test device was used to simulate the whole process of deformation evolution of sustaining arch locked-segment-type slopes, and the formation of natural sustaining arch and its locking control effect on slope stability were studied. The test results show that the continuous formation and progressive destruction of the sustaining arch were observed. The sustaining arch formed in the second time has the best locking effect, and the anti-sliding force reaches its stress peak point. However, the slope is not in a critically unstable state, instead, the stress is continuously adjusted to form a larger range of soil arch to resist the slope thrust. Consequently, the slope destabilizes until the ultimate shear strength of arch foots is exceeded, at which point the critical arch height of the arch is reached. The critical arch height mechanical model for slope stability analysis was developed based on the soil arching effect and limit equilibrium theory. The applicability of the model was demonstrated by the physical test and Xintan slope data, which can provide some guidance for early warning of landslides.

Abstract Stroke survivors frequently experience difficulties in daily activities, such as bathing, feeding, and mobility. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of a computer-adaptive test-Longshi scale (CAT-LS) for assessing activities of daily living (ADL) in stroke survivors. This cross-sectional study collected data using an electronic application. The ADL function of stroke survivors in rehabilitation departments of hospitals was assessed using both the CAT-LS and BI. Correlations between the CAT-LS and Barthel index (BI) and concurrent validity were evaluated using Pearson’s correlation test and multiple linear regression. Interrater reliability was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient based on a two-way random effect. The internal consistency of the CAT-LS was assessed using Cronbach’s coefficient (α) and corrected item-total correlations. Overall, 103 medical institutions in China were used in this study. Based on the MODIS (moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer) AOD (aerosol optical depth) and MEIC (multi-resolution emission inventory for China) in Northeast China from 2003 to 2022, the spatial distribution and interannual trend of AOD in Northeast China are analyzed. Effects of meteorological factors and anthropogenic emissions on AOD changes in Northeast China are discussed. Results show that the AOD maximum in central Liaoning is 0.6, followed by an average AOD of 0.4 in western Jilin and 0.3 in Heilongjiang. The average AOD in Northeast China is lower than that in north China, Yangtze River Delta and other frequent pollution areas. High AOD occurs in spring and summer in Northeast China, and it decreases spatially in autumn while increases in winter. The summer AOD in Liaoning is significantly higher than that in other regions, when the average value in central Liaoning and the Bohai Rim increases to 0.6. The highest values of AOD in different seasons occur in Liaoning, followed by Jilin and Heilongjiang. The increase of AOD in summer is mainly related to environmental humidity, and adverse meteorological conditions and local emissions have certain effects on near-surface atmospheric extinction in winter. The annual occurrence frequency of AOD in the range of [0.1, 0.2) and [0.2, 0.3) in Liaoning is up to 50%, the annual occurrence frequency of AOD in the range of [0.1, 0.2) in Jilin and Heilongjiang is up to 25%-30%, and the annual occurrence frequency of extreme clean condition in Heilongjiang is up to 15%. Affected by dust events in spring, the occurrence frequency of AOD [0.2, 0.3) and AOD [0.3, 0.4) in Northeast China is 25%. The regional average value of AOD in Northeast China is higher in 2003 and 2014, which is mainly influenced by boundary layer meteorological elements and anthropogenic emission of SO2, PM2.5, organic carbon (OC) and NO2. In Northeast China, AOD is negatively correlated with boundary layer height and average wind speed, and positively correlated with anthropogenic emissions. The correlation coefficient between AOD and anthropogenic emissions of SO2, PM2.5 and OC is the highest in Liaoning. From 2003 to 2022, AOD in Liaoning shows a weak negative growth trend (about-0.1 per decade), while the AOD in Jilin and Heilongjiang shows little change trend. From the perspective of seasonal interannual trend, there is a transition from a negative increasing trend in spring to a positive increasing trend in summer before 2012. After 2013, the summer AOD in Northeast China shows a negative growth trend (-0.3 per decade), which confirms that the contribution of summer aerosol to atmospheric extinction in Northeast China is decreasing in the past 10 years.

Abstract Due to the large fluctuations of the boundaries and internal variations of the lesion regions in medical image segmentation, current methods may have difficulty capturing sufficient global contexts effectively to deal with these inherent challenges, which may lead to a problem of segmented discrete masks undermining the performance of segmentation. Although self‐attention can be implemented to capture long‐distance dependencies between pixels, it has the disadvantage of computational complexity and the global contexts extracted by self‐attention are still insufficient. To this end, the authors propose the GFRNet, which resorts to the idea of low‐rank matrix factorization by forming global contexts locally to obtain global contexts that are totally different from contexts extracted by self‐attention. The authors effectively integrate the different global contexts extract by self‐attention and low‐rank matrix factorization to extract versatile global contexts. Also, to recover the spatial contexts lost during the matrix factorization process and enhance boundary contexts, the authors propose the Modified Matrix Decomposition module which employ depth‐wise separable convolution and spatial augmentation in the low‐rank matrix factorization process. Comprehensive experiments are performed on four benchmark datasets showing that GFRNet performs better than the relevant CNN and transformer‐based recipes.
