The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted higher education worldwide. Higher education institutions needed to adapt very rapidly to the crisis and a new environment, and also needed to revise their role in society. Higher education institutions can contribute to social innovation through research, education and helping to address citizens' issues and communities' needs, which is why the creation of social labs by higher education institutions has increased in the last decades. Social labs are spaces where higher education institutions experiment and test new ideas. However, social labs at higher education institutions are still a relatively new phenomenon and have not yet been examined sufficiently. Moreover, it is not fully known how COVID-19 affected social labs' activities and impacted their establishment. To reflect on the current reality, this article focuses on two research questions: (1) How were social lab activities and partnerships affected during the pandemic? and (2) What impact has COVID-19 had on social labs? To answer these questions, a quantitative survey was conducted, and the data was analysed by quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that the biggest challenge lies in organisational processes and human resources management. Yet, it should be noted that COVID-19 also provided opportunities. They are mainly linked with an impulse to develop innovations and increase digitisation in social labs. The study showed that social labs with flexible organisational processes and human resource management were more successful in their adaptation to crisis conditions caused by COVID-19. In summary, this article provides insight into social labs in higher education institutions by bridging an existing knowledge gap in scientific literature, and expands on it by investigating pandemics as having a crisis impact on social lab development., Pandemie Covid-19 narušila vysokoškolské vzdělání po celém světě. Vysokoškolské instituce potřebovaly k velmi rychle se přizpůsobit krizi a novému prostředí a také potřebovaly revizi jejich role ve společnosti. Instituce vysokoškolského vzdělávání mohou přispět k sociální inovací prostřednictvím výzkumu, vzdělávání a pomoci řešit problémy občanů a potřeb komunit, a proto se v posledních desetiletích zvýšilo vytváření sociálních laboratoří vysokoškolskými institucemi. Sociální laboratoře jsou prostory, kde instituce vysokoškolského vzdělávání experimentují a testují nové nápady. Sociální laboratoře na vysokoškolských institucích jsou však stále relativně novými jev a dosud nebyly dostatečně prozkoumány. Navíc není zcela známo, jak Covid-19 ovlivňovaly aktivity sociálních laboratoří a ovlivnily jejich založení. Aby se přemýšlel o současné realitě, tento článek se zaměřuje na dvě výzkumné otázky: (1) Jak byly během pandemie ovlivněny aktivity sociální laboratoře a partnerství? a (2) Jaký dopad měl Covid-19 na sociální laboratoře? Pro zodpovězení těchto otázek byl proveden kvantitativní průzkum a data byla analyzována kvantitativními a kvalitativními metodami. Výsledky ukázaly, že největší výzvou spočívá v organizačních procesech a řízení lidských zdrojů. Je však třeba poznamenat, že Covid-19 také poskytoval příležitosti. Jsou spojeny hlavně s impulsem pro rozvoj inovací a zvýšení digitalizace v sociálních laboratořích. Studie ukázala, že sociální laboratoře s flexibilními organizačními procesy a řízením lidských zdrojů byly úspěšnější při adaptaci na krizové podmínky způsobené CoVID-19. Stručně řečeno, tento článek poskytuje vhled do sociálních laboratoří ve vysokoškolských institucích tím, že překlenuje existující mezeru v znalostech ve vědecké literatuře a rozšiřuje o něm vyšetřením pandemie jako dopad krize na rozvoj sociální laboratoře.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the role of entrepreneurial universities (EU) emerging perspectives that enrich regional knowledge spillover and enhance social innovation system. The existing knowledge spillover within the regions has influenced the creation of new knowledge and cross-disciplinary areas of research that empowers regional small firms and higher education institutes (HEIs) to face the economic, social, and industrial turbulence. This paper explores the impact of entrepreneurial universities effects on regional knowledge development, knowledge spillovers and social innovation based on understanding entrepreneurial universities strategic activities. Additionally, research on entrepreneurial universities emerging perspectives has received considerable attention due to its key enabling inspirations that enable higher education institutes (HEIs) and small firms (SMEs) to meet the development of business networks with ensuring the regional as well as social benefits. Where, it facilitates the regional innovation system and as a result, entrepreneurial university premeditated initiative that promotes regions tacit knowledge utilization, knowledge retention in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and knowledge dynamics. Finally, it is significant to highlight that while addressing the tension between globalization and localization the idea of entrepreneurial universities initiatives and importance of social and regional innovation system has been viewed -with the perception of growing regional knowledge development process; and or taxonomy of knowledge economy for regional economic development.
