Abstract

International audience; This chapter presents semi-empirical models for estimating global horizontal irradiance (GHI) under specific sky conditions. We analysed the models to estimate GHI measurements in four regions of Morocco. The data consist of a 1-year period at four solar irradiance monitoring stations located in the south of the country, Missour (32.86°N, -4.11°E), Erfoud (31.49°N, -4.22°E), Zagora (30.27°N, -5.85°E) and Tantan (28.50°N, -11.32°E). Several empirical clear sky models are considered for a Moroccan case study. These models are validated using GHI measurements from different stations over different time periods. The disagreement between the various measurements of GHI and the semiempirical models used for the estimation of radiation in atmospheric physics and radiative transfer modelling is sometimes significant, especially in the presence of clouds or large concentrations of aerosols. A good agreement is noticed between the measured values and those estimated by some models.

Abstract

International audience; Comparison exercises have been carried out by different research teams to study the sensitivity of the natural convection occurring in a vertical asymmetrically heated channel to four sets of open boundary conditions. The dimensionless parameters have been chosen so that a return flow exists at the outlet. On the whole, results provided by the partners are in good agreement; benchmark solutions are then defined for each of the boundary conditions. Whilst the local and average Nusselt numbers based on the entrance temperature do not depend much on conditions applied in the aperture sections, the net fluid flow rates crossing the channel and the characteristics of the recirculation cells are highly influenced. But we proved that these modifications of flow patterns do not alter significantly the fluid flow rates leaving the channel through the exit section.

3. Thermal properties of a sample prepared using mixtures of clay bricks

Abstract

International audience; The measurements of thermal effusivity, thermal conductivity and specific heat of building materials such as clay used in construction have been performed using transient and steady state hot-plate methods. The estimation of these thermal characteristics is based on the simplified 1D model. Stationary and transient models are performed to estimate the thermal conductivity λ and the thermal capacity ρc, respectively. The use of a brick as a thermal insulating material requires prior knowledge of all its thermal properties. For that purpose, the authors conducted an experimental study in order to characterize the thermal properties of the sample coming from the Moroccan Slaoui's factory used to manufacture the bricks. A comparative study based on other experiments and different theoretical models was performed. The estimation errors due to the measurement on the temperature Tc was found less than 3%.The identification of the parameters is exhibiting residuals less than 0,4°C over the entire time interval. It also enables to assess the gap between the measurements and the model, which shows a good consistency. © 2013 The Authors.

Abstract

International audience; This work is a contribution to understand the thermal behavior of the composite material based on granular cork embedded in plaster. An experimental investigation of its thermal properties was mainly performed using the Flash method and the tiny Hot Plate method in steady state regime. This will allow compare its thermal properties with those of plaster for motivate the proposal that this composite will be used as false ceiling. A comparison of the energy performances of the composite material and plaster was made; it allows deducing a very interesting energy gain. The preliminary findings indicate the composite is better than plaster in term of thermal insulation, energy storage capacity and lightness.
