LIBRARY special collections , *REQUESTS for proposals (Public contracts) - Abstract
The article discusses the renovation of the John M. Flaxman Library at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). The redesign aimed to improve the library's layout and connect the special collection on the fifth floor with the main collection on the sixth floor. The renovation included the addition of a sculptural steel stair, the removal of a portion of the floor slab to create open sight lines and passage of light and sound, and the use of a shared material palette and abundant daylight. The renovated library now serves as a unified learning center for students across artistic disciplines. [Extracted from the article]
