In this paper, we describe a series of diphenylphosphane and diphenylphosphanide gold(III) and gold(III)/gold(I) complexes containing 3,5-C6Cl2F3 as aryl ligands at gold that have been synthesized due to the arylating and oxidant properties of the new polymeric thallium(III) complex [TlCl(3,5-C6Cl2F3)2]n (1). Its reaction with [Au(3,5-C6Cl2F3)(tht)] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) produces the gold(III) complex [Au(3,5-C6Cl2F3)3(tht)] (2), which allows the synthesis of the diphenylohosphane derivative [Au(3,5-C6Cl2F3)3(PPh2H)] (3). Its treatment with acetylacetonate gold(I) derivatives leads to two novel AuIII/AuI phosphanido-bridged complexes, [PPN][Au(3,5-C6Cl2F3)3(µ-PPh2)AuCl] (4) and [PPN][{(3,5-C6Cl2F3)3Au(µ-PPh2)}2Au] (5). All these complexes have been characterized, and the crystal structures of 1, 2, 4 and 5 have been established by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods, showing a novel polymeric arrangement in 1.

Thiazolyl-hydrazones (THs) exhibit a wide spectrum of biological activity that can be enhanced by complexation with various metal ions. Zn(II) complexes with α-pyridine-1, 3-TH ligands may represent an alternative to the standard platinum- based chemotherapeutics. In addition, they show photoluminescence properties and thus can be regarded as multifunctional materials. In this study, we synthesized and characterized three neutral Zn(II) complexes (1–3) with pyridine-based TH ligands HLS1‒3 in order to investigate the influence of the ligands charge on the structure and intermolecular interactions in the solid state, and consequently photophysical properties. The deprotonation of the ligands mainly affects the relative energies of electronic levels in the complexes, compared to cationic counterparts, resulting in similar photoluminescence mechanisms and quantum yields with a small shift in emission energy. The influence of the substitution at the ligands’ periphery on the selected quantum molecular descriptors of the complexes is localized to the substitution site. Also, the substituents did not considerably influence the redox responses of the complexes. However, predominant spectral changes were observed in the course of the first reduction and oxidation processes which caused distinct spectral color changes indicating their possible functionality for electrochromic applications. In addition, complex 1 showed antiproliferative activity with GI50 values below 2 µM on all tested cancer cell lines.

New perhalophenyl three-coordinated gold(i) complexes using the chelate ligand 1,2-bis(diphenyl-phosphino)benzene (dppBz) and [AuR(tht)] (R = C6F5 (1), o-C6BrF4 (2), p-C6BrF4 (3), o-C6F4I (4), p-C6F4I (5); tht = tetrahydrothiophene) have been prepared. The crystal structures of compounds 1 and 2 consist of distorted three-coordinated Au(i) complexes displaying different Au-P distances at the same gold atom. The complexes show intense photoluminescent emission in the solid state at room temperature (RT) and at 77 K. The study of the dependence of the emission lifetime with temperature suggests the existence of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) processes at RT. We have computed the rate constants for intersystem crossing and reverse intersystem crossing of the photophysical processes through first-principle calculations, supporting the experimental observations with very good agreement.

The doubly-aurated [{Au(PMe3)}2(μ-S,N1-2-thiocytosinate)]+ cation breaks up in water solution to form a strongly-coloured and photoluminescent neutral aurophilic oligomer.

Resumen del póster presentado al XIII Simposio de Investigadores Jóvenes de la Real Sociedad Española de Química Sigma-Aldrich, celebrado en Logroño del 8 al 11 de noviembre de 2016., Actualmente se ha producido un gran auge en el estudio de sistemas polinucleares soportados por interacciones metalofílicas, debido en gran medida a las interesantes propiedades ópticas que presentan y sus potenciales aplicaciones. Así mismo, los ligandos N-dadores se han empleado exhaustivamente en la química de coordinación y organometálica debido a su versatilidad y porque promueven interesantes propiedades fotofísicas y electroquímicas, además de la estabilidad que aportan a los compuestos. En este trabajo se ha querido aunar lo mejor de los dos aspectos obteniéndose por primera vez una serie de compuestos heterometálicos de Au y Ag con ligandos de tipo terpiridina. En dicho trabajo se estudia la reactividad de los compuestos poliméricos [{Au(C6F5)2}2Ag2]n y [{Au(C6F3Cl2)2}2Ag2]n frente a distintos ligandos terpiridina. Se pretende estudiar cómo afecta la basicidad del ligando perhalofenilo a las propiedades ópticas del sistema y la influencia de añadir un sustituyente dador o aceptor al ligando terpiridina.

Resumen del póster presentado a la XXXV Reunión Bienal de la Real Sociedad Española de Química celebrada en A Coruña del 19 al 23 de julio de 2015., Los ligandos aromáticos N-dadores han sido ampliamente empleados en la química de coordinación, debido a su versatilidad coordinativa y la estabilidad que proporcionan a los compuestos que forman, pero también porque en muchas ocasiones promueven a estos compuestos interesantes propiedades fotofísicas y electroquímicas. Entre ellos, el ligando 2,2’:6’,2’’-terpiridina contituye una molécula muy versátil y de gran interés. En los últimos años se han publicado compuestos en los que este ligando se coordina a gran variedad de metales. Desde el punto de vista estructural el ligando terpiridina suele actuar como tridentado, pero también se conocen algunos ejemplos en los que se comporta como mono- y bidentado. Por otra parte, se han llevado a cabo numerosos estudios fotofísicos y electroquímicos de complejos de metales de transición coordinados a este ligando, en cambio no hay muchos ejemplos de este tipo de estudios en complejos oro-terpiridina. Así, en esta comunicación se presenta la síntesis, caracterización espectroscópica y las propiedades fotofísicas y electroquímicas de compuestos organometálicos de oro en estados de oxidación +1 y +3 coordinados al ligando 2,2´:6´,2´´-terpiridina. También se ha analizado su comportamiento, tanto en disolución como en estado sólido, y su inteconversión química y electroquímica.

Este libro recoge el amplio y significativo elenco de estudios (microbiología) recientemente realizados por los grupos de investigación de la red GIENOL (Grupos de investigación enológica).-- et al., Es bien conocido que la plata tiene propiedades antimicrobianas muy potentes. Actualmente, la nanoplata es el nanomaterial más utilizado, representando aproximadamente la cuarta parte de todos los nanomateriales comercializados en el mercado. El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo explorar la potencial utilización de nuevas nanopartículas de plata como agentes antimicrobianos en enología, como una alternativa al empleo de los sulfitos. En primer lugar, se ha llevado a cabo la síntesis y caracterización de dos materiales de plata: PEG‐Ag NPs 1, nanopartículas sólidas soportadas sobre polietilenglicol, y GSH‐Ag NPs 2, nanopartículas en solución soportadas sobre glutatión. A continuación, se ha evaluado su actividad antimicrobiana frente a un total de 11 especies, que incluyen bacterias lácticas y bacterias acéticas. Se han establecido los parámetros de inhibición bacteriana, comprobándose que los nanomateriales con recubrimientos a base de ambos polímeros solubles (polietilenglicol y glutatión), son capaces de inhibir el crecimiento de ambos tipos de bacterias, y en concreto, el efecto inhibidor sobre las bacterias acéticas, fue superior al del metabisulfito potásico. También se ha estudiado el mecanismo de acción antimicrobiano de las nanopartículas de plata, en el que parece que están implicados cambios en la membrana plasmática de la célula bacteriana con pérdida de la viabilidad celular y de las funciones vitales de la célula., Los autores agradecen la financiación recibida del Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) a través de los proyectos PRI‐PIBAR‐2011‐1358 y AGL2012‐40172‐C02‐01.

Trabajo presentado a la XXXV Reunión Bienal de la Real Sociedad Española de Química celebrada en A Coruña del 19 al 23 de julio de 2015., Recent interest in luminescent metal complexes has been driven by possible applications in OLED display technology as dopant emitters, in solar photoconversion chemistry as chromophores, and in sensor development for luminescence detection. Potentially attractive in this regard are gold(I) complexes that, in many cases, possess intense, long-lived luminescence in the solid state or in solution with emission energies spanning the visible spectrum. Part of the fascination of gold(I) chemistry is due to the frequent formation of inter- and intra-molecular gold-gold interactions (aurophilicity) and the tendency to adopt linear coordination. Two common strategies in the synthesis of gold(I) compounds consist in the use of a) reactions between gold complexes with the gold center as acid and some basic ligands, or b) reactions in which the gold center can be the base and can interact with acid complexes. The required conditions for a gold complex to show luminescence depend of the nature of the ligands, the geometry around the gold center or the presence of gold-gold interactions in the complexes. Nevertheless, the conjunction of more than one of these conditions makes the assignment more complicated. In addition, the presence of new metal centers can modify the relative energy of the frontier orbitals of gold and create new orbitals, as a consequence of the gold–metal interaction. We will see some examples of three-coordinate complexes, with gold-gold or gold-thallium interactions, with charge-transfer or intraligand transitions.

A novel and efficient strategy for the synthesis of luminescent polymers bearing metallophilic interactions with unprecedented charge sequences has been designed. For this end suitable basic gold units such as [AuR2]-, bearing perhalophenyl derivatives, and dinuclear acid silver terpyridine species, [Ag2(terpy)2](CF3SO3)2, have been chosen. Their combination originates the polymeric derivatives [{AuR2}2Ag2(terpy)2]n (R = C6F5, C6Cl2F3) or [{Au(C6Cl5)2}Ag(terpy)]n. The change of the perhalophenyl group in the gold complex modulates the strength in the metallophilic contacts and, consequently, the polymer arrays and luminescent properties. The X-ray diffraction studies of these derivatives revealed that there are polymers with unusual + + - - + + - - charge sequences for the R = C6F5 and C6Cl2F3 species, whereas the more classical + - + - disposition was found for the bulkiest C6Cl5 derivative. Their luminescent properties also vary depending on the formation of these polymer arrays, and time-dependent density functional theory calculations were performed to determine the origin of the luminescence., The authors gratefully acknowledge the D.G.I.
