Abstract

A low soybean self-sufficiency rate in South Korea has caused a high import dependence and considerable price variation between domestic and foreign soybeans, causing the false labeling of foreign soybeans as domestic. Conventional soybean origin discrimination methods prevent a single-grain analysis and rely on the presence or absence of several compounds or concentration differences. This limits the origin discrimination of mixed samples, demonstrating the need for a method that analyzes individual grains. Therefore, we developed a method for origin discrimination using genetic analysis. The whole-genome sequencing data of the Williams 82 reference cultivar and 15 soybean varieties cultivated in South Korea were analyzed to identify the dense variation blocks (dVBs) with a high single-nucleotide polymorphism density. The PCR primers were prepared and validated for the insertion–deletion (InDel) sequences of the dVBs to discriminate each soybean variety. Abstract

In this letter, a constant-amplitude biorthogonal multicode (CABM) modulation is proposed. The proposed modulation is a biorthogonal modulation scheme that employs a constant-amplitude transmission of multicode signals by introducing a simple constant-amplitude coding scheme with redundant bits. The proposed CABM modulation can provide bandwidth efficiency up to the level (i.e., 9/16) of constant-amplitude orthogonal multicode (CAOM) modulation. We prove that our encoding scheme proposed in this letter provides this constant amplitude property. The bit-error rate (BER) performance expressions and the union bounds of the proposed CABM modulation and demodulation pairs are derived analytically. The results of the computer simulation and theoretical analysis performed show that the BER performance and the hardware complexity of the proposed CABM modulation are significantly better than those of a CAOM modulation. 31. Comparison of acid extraction and total digestion methods for measuring Cd isotope ratios of environmental samples.

Abstract

To evaluate the pretreatment processing for Cd isotope analysis of environmental samples, acid extractions and total digestions were examined with various environmental certified reference materials. Four certified reference material samples, including fly ash, polluted soil, domestic sludge, and industrial sludge, were digested by six different acid extraction and total digestion methods, and then Cd was separated to remove other matrix by anion-exchange column. The Cd recovery rates of the acid extraction methods were 2.6–89.1%, while those of the total digestion methods were 21.6–88.7%. In these results, the Cd recovery rates were dependent on the sample type. More than 80% of the Cd in the polluted soil and domestic sludge samples could be recovered regardless of the decomposition method, except one method. On the other hand, the Cd recovery rate from fly ash was low when total digestion was performed using a HF mixture, and the recovery rate by total digestion methods for industrial sludge was higher than that by acid extraction. In our results, Cd isotope ratios tended to be more positive by increasing the Cd recovery rates, suggesting that the light isotope of Cd was decomposed preferentially during the decomposition procedures. However, when more than 80% of the Cd in the samples was recovered, the Cd isotope ratios were determined to be similar. This indicated that at least 80% of the Cd should be recovered from environmental samples to accurately measure the Cd isotopic ratio of environmental samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. John Owen's doctrine of sanctification

Abstract

The doctrine of sanctification in Owen's works permeates his whole theology, and in many ways provides a key to his theological system. Specifically, the doctrine of the Trinity stands at the heart of Owen's teaching on the doctrine of sanctification. According to the personal distinctions of the Triune God in the undivided work ad extra, within the covenant of redemption, Owen keeps the incarnate Christ's proper work on earth within the context of the Triune God's common work. In this light the completed aspect of sanctification is interpreted. Owen understands Christ's oblation to include not only his self-offering on earth, but also his ongoing intercession in heaven. The unity of oblation and intercession provides a key to understanding the progressive aspect of sanctification in Owen's thought, in heaven, Christ's mediatorial work as prophet, king, and high priest serves as the framework for the progressive aspect of sanctification. Moreover, the Holy Spirit himself is sent as a result of Christ's mediatorial work in heaven. As a result, a saint is united to Christ by the Spirit's proper work within the covenant of grace. At the moment when the saint is united to Christ, sin no longer has dominion and can never have the ultimate victory over him. This radical change gives us insight into definitive sanctification by the Holy Spirit's proper work in the Triune God's common work. One of the most important aspects in definitive sanctification is that the saint can have communion directly with the Father's love, the Son's grace, and the Spirit's consolation. This communion is essential to the imitation of Christ. Wherever Owen states his desire for communion with God, he brings in the saint's duties. In other words, the idea of communion with the Triune God contains the idea of the saint's obligation. So, through the diligent exercise of divinely granted grace, the saint is able to mortify indwelling sin, because his communion with God in Christ brings fellowship with Him in His death and resurrection. Neither can the saint mortify sin without this communion. The Holy Spirit works in the saint, and with him, within the context of communion with God. Therefore, in Owen's thought a sovereign work of God, and human responsibility, are brought together for the increase of holiness.
