At the same time, web application vulnerabilities are being discovered and disclosed at an alarming rate. Web applications often make use of JavaScript code that is embedded into web pages to support dynamic client-side behavior. This script code is executed in the context of the user's web browser. To protect the user's environment from malicious JavaScript code, browsers use a sand-boxing mechanism that limits a script to access only resources associated with its origin site. Unfortunately, these security mechanisms fail if a user can be lured into downloading malicious JavaScript code from an intermediate, trusted site. In this case, the malicious script is granted full access to all resources (e.g., authentication tokens and cookies) that belong to the trusted site. Such attacks are called cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. In general, XSS attacks are easy to execute, but difficult to detect and prevent. One reason is the high flexibility of HTML encoding schemes, offering the attacker many possibilities for circumventing server-side input filters that should prevent malicious scripts from being injected into trusted sites. Also, devising a client-side solution is not easy because of the difficulty of identifying JavaScript code as being malicious. This paper presents Noxes, which is, to the best of our knowledge, the first client-side solution to mitigate cross-site scripting attacks. Noxes acts as a web proxy and uses both manual and automatically generated rules to mitigate possible cross-site scripting attempts. Noxes effectively protects against information leakage from the user's environment while requiring minimal user interaction and customization effort. 6. Electricity markets operation planning with risk-averse agents: stochastic decomposition and equilibium

Abstract

The growing penetration of renewable energy sources in electricity systems requires adapting operation models to face the inherent variability and uncertainty of wind or solar generation. In addition, the volatility of fuel prices (such as natural gas) or the uncertainty of the hydraulic natural inflows requires to take into account all these sources of uncertainty within the operation planning of the generation system. Thus, stochastic optimization techniques have been widely used in this context. From the point of view of the system operation, the introduction of wind and solar generation in the mix has forced conventional generators to be subject to more demanding schedules from the technical point of view, increasing for example the number of start-up and shutdown decisions during the week, or having to face more pronounced ramps. From the point of view of the market, all these technical issues are transferred to the market prices that are subject to greater volatility. This thesis focuses on the problem of risk management using the Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) as a coherent risk measure. The thesis presents a novel iterative method that can be used by a market agent to optimize its operating decisions in the short term when the uncertainty is characterized by a set of random variable scenarios. The thesis analyses how it is possible to decompose the problem of risk management by means of Lagrangian Relaxation techniques and Benders decomposition, and shows that the proposed iterative algorithm (Iterative-CVaR) converges to the same solution as under the direct optimization setting. The algorithm is applied to two typical problems faced by agents: 1) optimization of the operation of a combined cycle power plant (CCGT) that has to cope with the volatility in the spot market price to build the supply curve for the futures market, and 2) strategic unit-commitment model. 8. Compact microstrip lowpass filter with ultrasharp response using a square-loaded modified T-shaped resonator

Abstract

A miniaturized lowpass filter (LPF) with ultrasharp response, good figure of merit (FOM), and simple structure is proposed. The designed structure is fabricated and measured with a 2.9 GHz cut-off frequency. The proposed LPF consists of high impedance lines that are loaded by three similar resonators and two uniform suppressing cells. The filter size is only 0.08~$\times $~0.23~$\lambda $g, which indicates small circuit size. The proposed design exhibits good features, such as an ultrasharp roll-off rate of about 1609 dB/GHz and a good FOM of 162,820. The insertion loss of the proposed LPF is less than 0.14 dB in the passband. With these excellent obtained specifications and flat group delay, this structure can be used in wireless antennae.

9. The comprehension of the passive voice by different populations and the effects of structural priming on this process

Abstract

This thesis investigates the comprehension of the passive voice in three distinct populations. First, the comprehension of passives by adult German speakers was studied, followed by an examination of how German-speaking children comprehend the structure. Finally, bilingual Mandarin-English speakers were tested on their comprehension of the passive voice in English, which is their L2. An integral part of testing the comprehension in all three populations is the use of structural priming. In each of the three distinct parts of the research, structural priming was used for a specific reason. In the study involving adult German speakers, productive and receptive structural priming was directly compared. The goal was to see the effect the two priming modalities have on language comprehension. In the study on German-acquiring children, structural priming was an important tool in answering the question regarding the delayed acquisition of the passive voice. Finally, in the study on the bilingual population, cross-linguistic priming was used to investigate the importance of word order in the priming effect, since Mandarin and English have different word orders in passive voice sentences., Diese Doktorarbeit untersucht das Verständnis von Passivsätzen in drei spezifischen Populationen. Zunächst wurde das Passivverständnis von erwachsenen deutschen Muttersprachlern erforscht, gefolgt von einer Untersuchung des Verständnisses von Passivsätzen deutschsprachiger Kinder. Schließlich wurden bilinguale Mandarin-Sprecher hinsichtlich ihres Verständnisses von Passivsätzen in der englischen Sprache, welche ihre Zweitsprache darstellt, getestet. Ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der Untersuchung des Sprachverständnisses in allen drei Populationen ist der Gebrauch des Structural Priming. In jedem der drei verschiedenen Teile der Untersuchung gab es spezifische Gründe, die Methode des Structural Priming anzuwenden. So wurden in der Studie mit deutschen erwachsenen Muttersprachlern Productive und Receptive Structural Priming unmittelbar mit einander verglichen. Das Ziel war es, die Wirkung von zwei verschiedenen Priming-Modalitäten auf das Sprachverständnis herauszufinden. In der Studie mit deutschsprachigen Kindern war Structural Priming ein wichtiges Hilfsmittel, um die Frage nach dem verzögerten Erwerb des Passivverständnisses zu beantworten. In der Studie der bilingualen Population schließlich wurde Cross-Linguistik (sprachübergreifendes) Priming genutzt um die Bedeutung des Satzbaus auf den Priming-Effekt zu untersuchen, da Mandarin und Englisch in Passivsätzen einen unterschiedlichen Satzbau verwenden.

16. Potential New Approaches in Predicting Adverse Cardiac Events One Month after Major Vascular Surgery.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of our study was to find the best model with sufficient power to improve the risk stratification in major vascular surgery patients during the first 30 days after this procedure. The discriminatory power of 4 biomarkers (troponin I [TnI], N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP], creatine kinase-MB isoenzyme [CK-MB], high-sensitivity C-reactive protein [hs-CRP]) was tested as well as 2 risk assessment models and 13 different combinations of them.Subjects and Methods: The study included 122 patients (77% men, 23% women) with an average age of 67.03 ± 4.5 years. An aortobifemoral bypass was performed in 6.56% of the patients, a femoropopliteal bypass in 18.85%, and 49.18% received open surgical reconstruction of the carotid arteries. A total of 25.41% of the patients were given an aortobi-iliac bypass.Results: During the first 30 days, 13 patients (10.7%) had 17 cardiac complications. The most common complication was the new onset of atrial fibrillation (35.3%). During the first 10 days, 10 patients had 1 complication and 2 patients had 2 cardiac events, while 1 patient had 3 complications. By comparing combinations of scores and markers, it was shown that revised cardiac risk index (RCRI) + Vascular Portsmouth Physiological and Operative Severity Score (V-POSSUM) + hsTnI and RCRI + V-POSSUM + hsTnI + NT-proBNP with 100% sensitivity, > 80% specificity had the best discriminatory ability (AUC 0.924 and 0.933, respectively; p < 0.001 for both models) for cardiac complications during the 30 days after surgery.Conclusion: Combinations of traditional preoperative risk factors and scores can enhance the assessment of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients preparing for large vascular surgery.
