3. Reservoir compaction in shallow gas reservoirs: The impact of production-induced reservoir compaction on the recovery of gas from shallow reservoirs

Abstract

Compaction occurs in many consolidated hydrocarbon reservoirs and is responsible for both improvement and loss of recovery. This study assesses the effects of rock compaction and the consequences on the production and recovery in unconsolidated shallow gas reservoir a topic of which little is known. The compaction behaviour in unconsolidated to weakly-consolidated reservoirs is studied by compiling a large data set from published laboratory experiments data. Analysis of the data set indicates that the initial porosity, the pre-consolidation stress and the degree of consolidation of the reservoir formation are the main controlling parameters on the rock compressibility. To account for compaction in unconsolidated sands, a set of equations describing plastic deformation is derived fromthe equations describing linear elastic compressibility. The pore volume reduction and permeability reduction calculated based on these equations tend to over predict the effects of compaction when compared to measured data. Empirical relationships are derived for pore volume and permeability reduction based on compaction behaviour trends which can be applied to unconsolidated reservoirs. With these derived empirical trends compaction is simulated on shallow gas reservoirs. A simplified reservoir model is built capturing the main characteristic of shallow gas reservoirs in the Netherlands. The integration of the effects of compaction within the simulations is done by incorporating the range observed in the pressure-dependent rock characteristics i.e. pore volume (porosity) and permeability. The assumption of a constant reservoir compressibility leads to an uncertainty in the recovery factor of up to 10%when compared to the pressure-dependent assumption. 6. Feedback op schrijfopdrachten in het basisonderwijs. Het effect van het feedbacktype op de vooruitgang in tekstkwaliteit.

Abstract

De schrijfvaardigheid van leerlingen in het basisonderwijs is al jaren onder de maat. Een van de oorzaken hiervan is dat docenten niet in staat zijn om leerlingen goede feedback te geven op hun schrijfopdrachten. Dit, terwijl feedback juist een effectief middel blijkt om schrijfvaardigheid te verbeteren (Matsumura, Patthey-Chavez, Valdés, Garnier, 2002; Parr & Timperley, 2010). Het is dus van belang om docenten een beter inzicht te geven in wat nu effectieve feedback is om zo de schrijfvaardigheid van leerlingen te verbeteren. In dit onderzoek is er daarom eerst gekeken naar de huidige wijze waarop docenten feedback geven door te analyseren welk feedbacktype het meest wordt toegepast. Vervolgens is geanalyseerd of er een verband bestaat tussen de hoeveelheid van de feedbacktypes commentaar en verbeteringen in de tekst enerzijds en de vooruitgang in tekstkwaliteit anderzijds. Hierna is gekeken op welke aspecten docenten hun feedback richten. Tot slot is er gekeken naar welke feedback leerlingen doorvoeren om hun schrijfopdracht te verbeteren en waarom. Dit is gedaan aan de hand van schrijfopdrachten gemaakt door 27 leerlingen uit groep 8. Deze opdrachten zijn vervolgens door 3 docenten voorzien van feedback en door de leerlingen gereviseerd. Uit de resultaten van dit onderzoek blijkt dat er geen statistisch verband is tussen de feedbacktypes en de vooruitgang in tekstkwaliteit. Verder blijkt dat docenten veel commentaar geven en in staat zijn om feedback te geven op hogere-orde aspecten. Echter, de hoeveelheid feedback op hogere-orde aspecten is niet hoger dan de hoeveelheid feedback op lagere-orde aspecten. Feedback op hogere-orde aspecten heeft een betere invloed op de schrijfvaardigheid (Birenbaum, 2007) en zou daarom meer gebruikt moeten worden. Het lijkt dus een goed idee om de docenten aan te sporen tot het geven van meer feedback op hogere-orde aspecten. Abstract

Meiosis in seven interspecific Cucumis hybrids has been analysed i.a. in C. metuliferus × C. zeyheri, where the parents belong to different sections. In the triploid hybrids a remarkably high number of trivalents has been found. Additional data from literature on geographical distribution, cucurbitacins, flavonoid patterns, isozymes, C-banding, genome size, DNA amount and chloroplast DNA are used to discuss species relationships and evolution. The African cross-compatible group is divided into the Myriocarpus subgroup with the diploid species C. africanus, C. myriocarpus subsp. leptodermis and subsp. myriocarpus, and the Anguria subgroup with C. anguria, C. dipsaceus, C. ficifolius, C. prophetarum, C. zeyheri and all polyploids (except C. heptadactylus). It is argued that the Asian subg. Melo with x = 7 is derived from the African subg. Cucumis with x = 12; the latter contains all the polyploid species and has the most common basic chromosome number of the Cucurbitaceae. 15. Linkage of downy mildew resistance genes Pd1 and Pd2from Allium roylei Stearn in progeny of its interspecific hybrid with onion (A. cepa L.)

Abstract

Male meiosis of the interspecific hybrid between Allium roylei and A. cepa is undisturbed relative to its parents. Based on meiotic data, A. roylei is concluded to be a closer relative of A. cepa than A. fistulosum. Segregation ratios for downy mildew resistance among BC1 and F2 progenies from the F1 between A. roylei and A. cepa indicate the presence of two dominantly inherited, weakly linked nuclear resistance genes, Pd1 and Pd2, in A. roylei (recombination frequency 0.32±0.03). Presumably Pd1 and Pd2are the first genes described in Allium residing in one linkage group. The prospects of exploiting A. roylei in onion breeding seem very promising.

Abstract

It is now well established that epidermis, like many other tissues, contains a phospholipase A2 that is responsible for the initiation of the arachidonic acid cascade. Here we report that human epidermis also contains a second, quite distinct enzyme of the phospholipase A2 group, which is unique in its extreme activity against phospholipids in true solution. It also differs from the classic cutaneous enzyme in that (a) its activity is not reduced by pretreatment of the skin with corticosteroids in vivo nor by treatment of the epidermal homogenate with alkaline phosphatase in vitro, and (b) its activity is reduced, rather than increased, in the lesions of inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis. The enzyme seems to occur mainly in fully differentiated keratinocytes, its level being low in the basal cell layer of epidermis and in keratinocytes cultured in vitro. On the basis of these observations, we suggest that this new phospholipase A2 is responsible for the degradation of phospholipids that accompanies the terminal keratinization process.
