Scientific thinking constitutes a vital component of scientific competencies, crucial for citizens to adapt to the evolving societal landscape. To cultivate students' scientific thinking, teachers should possess an adequate professional knowledge foundation, which encompasses pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Assessing teachers' PCK of scientific thinking facilitates the development of effective curricula tailored to their continuous professional development. Despite its significance, empirical studies on biology teachers' PCK of scientific thinking are notably lacking. Hence, this research aimed to create a reliable and valid tool to evaluate upper-secondary school biology teachers' PCK of scientific thinking. The results showed that the instrument exhibits high reliability and good validity, affirming its efficiency for investigative purposes. A collective of 292 in-service biology teachers from upper-secondary schools participated in this investigation through the completion of an online survey. The results indicated that, overall, as well as for each component, upper-secondary school biology teachers' performance on PCK of scientific thinking fell within the lower to middle range. Specifically, the performance levels of four components: knowledge of students (KSU), knowledge of instructional strategies (KIS), knowledge of curriculum (KC), and knowledge of assessment (KA) declined sequentially.

Abstract Background Although extant literature has investigated the impacts of social sites on employees’ job performance in different sectors, scholars have given little attention to teachers’ job performance (TJoP) in higher educational institutes. Purpose We aimed to investigate the direct and mediating impact of social media use (SMU) on TJoP. Based on social cognitive theory, this study proposed a model that consists of six hypotheses. Methodology : To empirically test the model, we develop a survey link to collect data from respondents working in universities in Jiangsu province, China. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS–SEM) using SmartPLS 4 has been used for analyzing 454 respondents. Results Research findings demonstrate the significant effects of SMU on TJoP, well-being, and social media addiction (SMAdd). In addition, teachers’ well-being and SMAdd have a positive and negative significant effect, respectively, on TJoP. Moreover, this research evidenced a significant partial mediation of teachers’ well-being and SMAdd. Conclusion This study points out the key role of SMU in the direct and indirect influences of TJoP through well-being and SMAdd. Further, it brings into view the urgency of higher education to prudently consider the implications of SMU on performance and general well-being among its faculty.

Hydrological models are crucial for characterizing large-scale water quantity variations and correcting GNSS reference station vertical displacements. We evaluated the robustness of multiple models, such as the Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), the Famine Early Warning System Network Land Data Assimilation System (FLDAS), the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and the WaterGAP Global Hydrology Model (WGHM). Inter-model and outer comparisons with Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinate time series, satellite gravity field Mascon solutions, and Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) guide our assessment. Results confirm WGHM's 26% greater effectiveness in correcting nonlinear variations in GPS height time series compared to NCEP. In the Amazon River Basin, a 5-month lag between FLDAS, GLDAS, and satellite gravity results is observed. In eastern Asia and Australia, NCEP's Terrestrial Water Storage Changes (TWSC)-derived surface displacements correlate differently with precipitation compared to other models. Three combined hydrological models (H-VCE, H-EWM, and H-CVM) utilizing Variance Component Estimation (VCE), Entropy Weight Method (EWM), and Coefficient of Variation Method (CVM) are formulated. Correcting nonlinear variations with combined models enhances global GPS height scatter by 15%–17%. Correlation with precipitation increases by 25%–30%, and with satellite gravity, rises from 0.2 to 0.8 at maximum. The combined model eliminates time lag in the Amazon Basin TWSC analysis, exhibiting a four times higher signal-to-noise ratio than single models. H-VCE demonstrates the highest accuracy. In summary, the combined hydrological model minimizes discrepancies among individual models, significantly improving accuracy for monitoring large-scale TWSC.

Abstract Two-dimensional conjugated coordination polymers exhibit remarkable charge transport properties, with copper-based benzenehexathiol (Cu-BHT) being a rare superconductor. However, the atomic structure of Cu-BHT has remained unresolved, hindering a deeper understanding of the superconductivity in such materials. Here, we show the synthesis of single crystals of Cu3BHT with high crystallinity, revealing a quasi-two-dimensional kagome structure with non-van der Waals interlayer Cu-S covalent bonds. These crystals exhibit intrinsic metallic behavior, with conductivity reaching 103 S/cm at 300 K and 104 S/cm at 2 K. Notably, superconductivity in Cu3BHT crystals is observed at 0.25 K, attributed to enhanced electron-electron interactions and electron-phonon coupling in the non-van der Waals structure. The discovery of this clear correlation between atomic-level crystal structure and electrical properties provides a crucial foundation for advancing superconductor coordination polymers, with potential to revolutionize future quantum devices.

Abstract Background Postoperative pain (PP) is a dynamic process that reflects the complex interplay between symptoms, treatment, and patient experiences, and its intensity is reportedly primarily related to the severity of surgical trauma. However, no large-scale national database-based study has hitherto been conducted to assess the occurrence and features related to PP following breast cancer (BC) surgery. Methods In this retrospective analysis, we screened BC surgery cases between 2015 and 2019 within the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) Database, utilizing the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 10th edition clinical modification codes. The researchers identified patients who developed PP and compared them to those who did not. Factors associated with PP were then screened: patient demographics (age and race), hospital characteristics (type of insurance, bed size, teaching status, type of admission, location, and hospital area), length of stay (LOS), total cost during hospitalization, inpatient mortality, comorbidities, and perioperative complications. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the independent risk factors for postoperative pain in BC surgery. Results 39,870 BC surgery cases were identified over a five-year period from 2015 to 2019. The overall occurrence of PP following breast cancer surgery was 6.15% (2,387 cases), with a slight upward trend every year. Abstract Background High-temperature fermentation technology is promising in improving fermentation speed and product quality, and thereby widely used in various fields such as food, pharmaceuticals, and biofuels. However, extreme temperature conditions can disrupt cell membrane structures and interfere with the functionality of biological macromolecules (e.g. proteins and RNA), exerting detrimental effects on cellular viability and fermentation capability. Results Herein, a microbial thermotolerance improvement strategy was developed based on adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) for efficient high-temperature fermentation. Employing this strategy, we have successfully obtained Corynebacterium glutamicum strains with superior resistance to high temperatures. Specifically, the genome analysis indicated that the evolved strains harbored 13 missense genetic mutations and 3 same-sense genetic mutations compared to the non-evolved parent strain. Besides, reverse transcription quantitative PCR analysis (RT qPCR) of the hrcA-L119P mutant demonstrated that both groEL genes were upregulated under 42 °C, which enabled the construction of robust strains with improved heat tolerance. Furthermore, a significant increase in FAS-IA and FAS-IB expression of the fasR-L102F strain was proved to play a key role in protecting cells against heat stress. Conclusions This work systematically reveals the thermotolerance mechanisms of Corynebacterium glutamicum and opens a new avenue for revolutionizing the design of cell factories to boost fermentation efficiency.

Abstract To study the influence of different geological and mining factors on the decompression effect of protective layer mining, a numerical simulation was carried out using FLAC3D numerical software. Taking the Hulusu coal mine as the engineering background, numerical simulation studies were carried out under different mining heights, working face lengths, interlayer lithologies and layer spacing by using FLAC3D numerical software, and the effects of different geological and mining factors on the degree of decompression and the scope of decompression were quantitatively investigated through the control of single‐factor variables. The results show that: the stress at the critical depth of impact ground pressure is 16.44 MPa, and the coefficient of unloading degree C = 0.5 is the indicator of sufficient unloading; the unloading effect of the protected layer decreases with the increase of layer spacing, lithological strength, and length of the working face, and increases with the increase of mining height; the geological and mining parameters of the protected layer show a functional relationship with the critical depth of the unloading, and the order of the influence of pressure relief effect is layer spacing > mining height > interlayer lithology > working face length. The results of the study are very important for the determination of the mining parameters of the protective layer, the estimation of the protective effect, and the design of the management programme of impact pressure.

To master changes in rock mechanical properties and the impact of high temperature on rock-breaking efficiency, the rock mechanical properties of granite, limestone, and sandstone under different temperatures and single-tooth static-pressure experiments were studied. The results show that the compressive strength, shear strength, internal friction angle, and elastic modulus of granite and limestone initially increased and then decreased as the temperature rose. The experimental temperatures were 25 °C, 100 °C, 200 °C, 300 °C, 400 °C, and 500 °C. The mechanical properties of granite reached the maximum at 200 °C, while those of limestone reached the maximum at 100 °C. The compressive strength, shear strength, and internal friction angle of sandstone gradually diminished, while the elastic modulus gradually increased at the abovementioned five temperature points. Among the samples of granite, limestone, and sandstone, the crushing-specific work of conical teeth, wedge teeth, and scoop teeth was smallest when the temperature was 300 °C. Compared to the normal temperature, the load of conical teeth, wedge teeth, and scoop teeth was reduced by 32.1%, 28.4%, and 22.9%, respectively, when they were pressed into sandstone. At the same temperature, the conical tooth had the highest rock-breaking efficiency, followed by the wedge tooth; the scoop tooth had the lowest efficiency. Conical teeth can be used to select the tooth shapes of bits to improve drilling efficiency. Optimizing the tooth profile and conducting research on rock-breaking efficiency under different temperatures and rocks have an important role in bit design and can greatly improve drilling efficiency.

Abstract Background Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is often performed with hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) to reduce metabolic demands and protect the myocardium. However, hypothermia can increase bleeding risks and other complications. Methods This is a prospective, multi-center, randomized controlled trial. From September 2023 to December 2024, a total of 336 eligible patients planning to undergo on-pump CABG will be enrolled. All participants will be randomly divided into mild hypothermia CPB group (target oxygenator arterial outlet blood temperature at 32–33℃) or normothermia CPB group (target oxygenator arterial outlet blood temperature at 35–36℃). The primary endpoint is Universal Definition of Perioperative Bleeding (UDPB) class 2–4. Secondary endpoints are class of UDPB, levels of coagulation and inflammatory factors, in-hospital mortality, perioperative related complications, ICU length of stay, and hospital length of stay. Discussion This clinical trial aims to compare the effects of different target temperature during CPB on postoperative bleeding and to explore optimal temperature strategy to provide new clinical evidence. Trial registration Chictr.org.cn : ChiCTR2300075405. The trial was prospectively registered on 4 September 2023.

Cytochrome P450 enzymes play a crucial role as catalysts in the biosynthesis of numerous plant natural products (PNPs). Enhancing the catalytic activity of P450s in host microorganisms is essential for the efficient production of PNPs through synthetic biology. In this study, we engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae to optimize the microenvironment for boosting the activities of P450s, including coexpression with the redox partner genes, enhancing NADPH supply, expanding the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), strengthening heme biosynthesis, and regulating iron uptake. This created a platform for the efficient production 11,20-dihydroxyferruginol, a key intermediate of the bioactive compound tanshinones. The yield was enhanced by 42.1-fold through 24 effective genetic edits. The optimized strain produced up to 67.69 ± 1.33 mg/L 11,20-dihydroxyferruginol in shake flasks. Our work represents a promising advancement toward constructing yeast cell factories containing P450s and paves the way for microbial biosynthesis of tanshinones in the future.

Abstract For the multistage progression of prostate cancer (PCa) and resistance to immunotherapy, tumour‐associated macrophage is an essential contributor. Although immunotherapy is an important and promising treatment modality for cancer, most patients with PCa are not responsive towards it. In addition to exploring new therapeutic targets, it is imperative to identify highly immunotherapy‐sensitive individuals. This research aimed to establish a signature risk model, which derived from the macrophage, to assess immunotherapeutic responses and predict prognosis. Data from the UCSC‐XENA, GEO and TISCH databases were extracted for analysis. Based on both single‐cell datasets and bulk transcriptome profiles, a macrophage‐related score (MRS) consisting of the 10‐gene panel was constructed using the gene set variation analysis. MRS was highly correlated with hypoxia, angiogenesis, and epithelial‐mesenchymal transition, suggesting its potential as a risk indicator. Moreover, poor immunotherapy responses and worse prognostic performance were observed in the high‐MRS group of various immunotherapy cohorts. Additionally, APOE, one of the constituent genes of the MRS, affected the polarisation of macrophages. In particular, the reduced level of M2 macrophage and tumour progression suppression were observed in PCa xenografts which implanted in Apolipoprotein E‐knockout mice. The constructed MRS has the potential as a robust prognostic prediction tool, and can aid in the treatment selection of PCa, especially immunotherapy options.

A new species of the genus Boulenophrys is described from the coastal hills of eastern Fujian Province, China. The new taxon can be distinguished from all recognized congeners by a combination of discrete morphological character state differences and genetic divergences in the combined mitochondrial 16S + CO1 genes. We also provide a map showing the distribution pattern of Boulenophrys species in Fujian and a provincial-specific key, which will aid their conservation by helping the local authorities accurately identify species during field identifications and data collection efforts.

Abstract How the lung achieves immune homeostasis after a pulmonary infection is not fully understood. Here, we analyzed the spatiotemporal changes in the lungs over a 2-week natural recovery from severe pneumonia in a Syrian hamster model of SARS-CoV-2 infection. We find that SARS-CoV-2 infects multiple cell types and causes massive cell death at the early stage, including alveolar macrophages. We identify a group of monocyte-derived Slamf9 + macrophages, which are induced after SARS-CoV-2 infection and resistant to impairment caused by SARS-CoV-2. Slamf9 + macrophages contain SARS-CoV-2, recruit and interact with Isg12 + Cst7 + neutrophils to clear the viruses. After viral clearance, Slamf9 + macrophages differentiate into Trem2 + and Fbp1 + macrophages, contributing to inflammation resolution at the late stage, and finally replenish alveolar macrophages. These findings are validated in a SARS-CoV-2-infected hACE2 mouse model and confirmed with publicly available human autopsy single-cell RNA-seq data, demonstrating the potential role of Slamf9 + macrophages and their coordination with neutrophils in post-injury tissue repair and inflammation resolution.

Abstract How immune cells are spatiotemporally coordinated in the lung to effectively monitor, respond to, and resolve infection and inflammation in primed form needs to be fully illustrated. Here we apply immunocartography, a high-resolution technique that integrates spatial and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) through deconvolution and co-localization analyses, to the SARS-CoV-2-infected Syrian hamster model. We generate a comprehensive transcriptome map of the whole process of pulmonary infection from physiological condition, infection initiation, severe pneumonia to natural recovery at organ scale and single-cell resolution, with 142,965 cells and 45 lung lobes from 25 hamsters at 5 time points. Integrative analysis identifies that alveolar dendritic cell–T cell immunity hubs, where Ccr7 + Ido1 + dendritic cells, Cd160 + Cd8 + T cells, and Tnfrsf4 + Cd4 + T cells physiologically co-localize, rapidly expand during SARS-CoV-2 infection, eliminate SARS-CoV-2 with the aid of Slamf9 + macrophages, and then restore to physiological levels after viral clearance. We verify the presence of these cell subpopulations in the immunity hubs in normal and SARS-CoV-2-infected hACE2 mouse models, as well as in publicly available human scRNA-seq datasets, demonstrating the potential broad relevance of our findings in lung immunity.

Abstract Peritoneal fibrosis has been linked to hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) as well as O-linked-N-acetylglucosaminylation (O-GlcNAcylation) in peritoneal dialysis (PD). Genistein, recognized for its HIF-1α inhibitory and antifibrotic effects, presents a potential intervention against peritoneal mesothelial-mesenchymal transition (MMT) as well as fibrosis in PD. This study employed human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMCs) together with adenine-induced chronic kidney disease (CKD) rats undergoing peritoneal dialysis to explore Genistein’s role in high glucose-induced peritoneal MMT and fibrosis. Our findings reveal that Genistein exerts anti-MMT and anti-fibrotic effects by inhibiting HIF-1α in HPMCs under high glucose conditions. Genistein inhibited O-GlcNAcylation status of HIF-1α through the mTOR/O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) pathway, promoting its ubiquitination as well as the subsequent proteasomal degradation. In adenine-induced CKD rats undergoing peritoneal dialysis, Genistein suppressed the mTOR/OGT expression and reduced the abundance of O-GlcNAcylation along with HIF-1α in the peritoneum. Additionally, Genistein protected against increased peritoneal thickness, fibrosis, and angiogenesis, while improving peritoneal function. Based on our results, it could be inferred that Genistein might inhibit the abundance of HIF-1α via the mTOR/OGT pathway, thereby ameliorating MMT as well as fibrosis in PD.

Abstract This study analyzes the characteristics of near-surface atmospheric CO2 concentrations on the southern slope of Tomur Peak from 2013 to 2022. Utilizing the Boughton two-parameter algorithm, we determined the CO2 background and non-background concentrations. Additionally, the Hysplit model was employed to investigate the potential contributing areas of the CO2 non-background concentration. Our findings that the CO2 concentration in the study area was approximately 17% lower than the global average, with an annual growth rate that was only about 47% of the global rate. The CO2 non-background concentration accounted for only 6.25% of the observed concentration, but was largely unaffected by near-ground meteorological factors. The source of the CO2 non-background was mainly controlled by the westerly belt, with potential source area mainly located in Central Asia. However, the WPSCF values in the modern ice and snow distribution area south of Tomur Peak and west of the monitoring station were significantly elevated, suggesting a strong wind transport of CO2 after accumulation under the influence of the elevated terrain. The local supplying path accounted for only 12.87%, indicating that human activities in the oasis areas of the Tarim Basin had a limited influence on the study area. Due to the blocking effect of the Baikal high-pressure system and the towering topography of the Tianshan Mountains, the influence of human emissions from higher latitudes was likely negligible.

Abstract Metabolic memory (MM) is a major factor in the delayed wound healing observed in diabetic patients. While “Nocardia rubrum cell wall skeleton” (Nr-CWS) is utilized to enhance macrophage proliferation in immune diseases, its impact on MM wounds in diabetes is unclear. This study demonstrates that transient hyperglycemia leads to prolonged damage in vascular endothelial cells by decreasing METTL3 expression, leading to decreased RNA methylation and impaired cellular metabolism. Remarkably, Nr-CWS application increases METTL3 levels in these cells, facilitating the recovery of cell function. Further in vivo and in vitro analyses demonstrate that transient hyperglycemia-induced reduction in METTL3 hinders RNA methylation of the downstream gene Cds2, impacting mitochondrial function and energy metabolism and consequently reducing angiogenic capacity in endothelial cells. This impairment significantly influences diabetic wound healing. Our findings highlight the profound impact of transient hyperglycemia on wound healing, establishing METTL3 as a significant role in vascular complications of diabetes. This study not only elucidates the pathophysiological mechanisms behind MM in diabetic wounds but also suggests Nr-CWS as a potential therapeutic agent, offering a novel approach for treating diabetic wounds.

Abstract Background Exosomes (EXO) play crucial roles in intercellular communication and glioma microenvironment modulation. Tumor-associated macrophages are more likely to become M2-like type macrophages in the immunosuppressive microenvironment. Here, we aimed to investigate the effects and molecular mechanisms of hypoxic glioma-derived exosomes mediated M2-like macrophage polarization. Methods Highly expressed miRNAs in exosomes derived from glioma cells cultured under hypoxia condition compared to normoxic condition were identified through microRNA sequencing. The polarization status of macrophages was determined using qRT-PCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry. By using RNA-seq, we aimed to identify the downstream target genes regulated by miR-25-3p in macrophages and investigate the mechanistic pathways through which it exerts its effects. The proliferation and migration capabilities of glioma cells were assessed through EdU, Transwell assays, and in vivo experiments. Results We found that miR-25-3p was upregulated in the exosomes derived from hypoxic glioma cells and can be transferred to the macrophage. In macrophages, miR-25-3p downregulates the expression of PHLPP2, thereby activating the PI3K-AKT-mTOR signaling pathway, ultimately leading to macrophage M2 polarization. As part of a feedback loop, M2-polarized macrophages can, in turn, promote malignant glioma progression. Conclusion Our study reveals that miR-25-3p from hypoxic glioma cells is delivered to macrophages via exosomes as a mediator, promoting M2 polarization of macrophages through the miR-25-3p/PHLPP2/PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. This study suggests that targeted interventions to modulate miR-25-3p expression, transmission, or inhibition of PI3K-AKT pathway activation can disrupt the immune-suppressive microenvironment, providing a novel approach for immunotherapy in gliomas. Objectives: This study explores the correlation between serum cholesterol, interleukin-10 (IL-10), macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), and post-intracerebral hemorrhage (post-ICH) depression in patients with acute ICH. Methods: 35 patients with acute primary supratentorial ICH were recruited. Serum cholesterol, including total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), IL-10, and MIF were measured in the first morning after admission. Additionally, a 24-item Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-24) was used to detect depressive symptoms one week after admission. HAMD scores ≥ 8 indicated a diagnosis of post-ICH depression. Results: The levels of TC were significantly lower in ICH patients with depression compared to those without [169.26(139.23–215.67) mg/dL vs. 200.46(182.81–224.74) mg/dL, P = 0.010]. Similarly, levels of LDLC [102.18(78.39–137.28) mg/dL vs. 135.14(120.22–170.63) mg/dL, P = 0.001] and IL-10 [17.56(16.03–22.52) pg/mL vs. 31.17(23.42–37.53) pg/mL, P = 0.001] were also lower in patients with post-ICH depression. Abstract Background Prompt identification of fracture healing is crucial for medical decision-making and clinical research. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Radiographic Union Score for Hip (RUSH) in subtrochanteric fractures and determine the optimal scoring threshold for fracture healing. Methods We obtained 94 sets of X-ray films from the postoperative follow-up of 35 patients who underwent intramedullary nail fixation for subtrochanteric fractures. Six orthopedic trauma surgeons evaluated the imaging data and determined fracture healing based on subjective judgment. They then scored the X-ray images using the RUSH form. After four weeks, the same observers re-evaluated 47 randomly selected sets of radiographs. Subsequently, the observers and study designer conducted a consensus meeting where they agreed on whether the fractures had healed. We used Fleiss kappa to evaluate agreement among observers based on subjective impressions, and the intraclass correlation coefficient assessed RUSH score consistency. Regression analysis examined the relationship between scores and fracture healing consensus using a receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve. Results Based on overall impressions, the agreement level among orthopedic trauma surgeons for determining the healing status of subtrochanteric fractures was moderate (Kappa = 0.564, 95% CI: 0.511–0.616). However, utilizing the RUSH scoring system can improve the consistency to a substantial level of agreement (ICC = 0.748, 95% CI: 0.663–0.817). Regarding intraobserver reliability, there were significant differences among orthopedic trauma surgeons in judging fracture healing based on overall impressions. However, using the RUSH scoring form, the attending group achieved better intraobserver consistency than the resident group. Regression analysis and ROC curve analysis revealed a strong correlation between the RUSH total score, cortical bone score, cancellous bone score, and consensus on fracture healing. The AUC values are 0.769 (95% CI: 0.670–0.868), 0.779 (95% CI: 0.681–0.876), and 0.771 (95% CI: 0.674–0.867), respectively. Conclusions Our study highlights the effectiveness of the RUSH scoring system in enhancing interobserver agreement and intraobserver consistency when evaluating subtrochanteric fracture healing in orthopedic trauma surgeons. We propose setting 21 points as the threshold for the simplified RUSH scoring system to determine fracture healing. This system includes only eight items related to cortical bone, with a total score of 24 points.

Abstract Background Respiratory diseases impose an immense health burden worldwide. Epidemiological studies have revealed extensive disparities in the incidence and severity of respiratory tract infections between men and women. It has been hypothesized that there might also be a nasal microbiome axis contributing to the observed sex disparities. Results Here, we study the nasal microbiome of healthy young adults in the largest cohort to date with 1593 individuals, using shotgun metagenomic sequencing. We compile the most comprehensive reference catalog for the nasal bacterial community containing 4197 metagenome-assembled genomes and integrate the mycobiome, to provide a valuable resource and a more holistic perspective for the understudied human nasal microbiome. We systematically evaluate sex differences and reveal extensive sex-specific features in both taxonomic and functional levels in the nasal microbiome. Through network analyses, we capture markedly higher ecological stability and antagonistic potentials in the female nasal microbiome compared to the male’s. The analysis of the keystone bacteria reveals that the sex-dependent evolutionary characteristics might have contributed to these differences. Conclusions In summary, we construct the most comprehensive catalog of metagenome-assembled-genomes for the nasal bacterial community to provide a valuable resource for the understudied human nasal microbiome. On top of that, comparative analysis in relative abundance and microbial co-occurrence networks identify extensive sex differences in the respiratory tract community, which may help to further our understanding of the observed sex disparities in the respiratory diseases.

Abstract Background Up to 17% of cancer survivors have been reported to develop second primary cancers (SPC), which cause significant physical and economic distress and often complicate clinical decision-making. However, understanding of SPC remains limited and superficial. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) is characterized by its polymorphism and has been associated with various diseases. This study aims to explore the role of HLA diversity in SPC incidence. Methods We analyzed a cohort of 47,550 cancer patients from the UK Biobank. SNP-derived HLA alleles were used and SPC-related HLA alleles were identified using logistic regression, followed by stepwise filtering based on the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and permutation tests. Additionally, we examined the association between extragenetic factors and the risk of SPC in patients carrying hazardous HLA alleles. Results During a median follow-up of 3.11 years, a total of 2894 (6.09%) participants developed SPC. We identified three protective HLA alleles (DRB1*04:03 and DPA1*02:02 for males and DRB5*01:01 for females) and two hazardous alleles (A*26:01 for males and DPB1*11:01 for females) about SPC. The presence of the protective alleles was associated with a reduced SPC risk (males: hazard ratio [HR] 0.72, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.59–0.89; females: HR 0.81, 95% CI 0.70–0.93), while the hazardous alleles were linked to an increased risk (males: HR 1.27, 95% CI 1.03–1.56; females: HR 1.35, 95% CI 1.07–1.70). The hazardous allele A*26:01 indicated skin-lung organ-specific SPC occurrence in males. Animal fat and vitamin C were associated with SPC risk in males carrying the hazardous alleles, while free sugar and vegetable fat were linked to SPC risk in females. Conclusions These results suggest that HLA alleles may serve as biomarkers for the susceptibility and organ-specific occurrence of SPC, while dietary modulation may mitigate hazardous alleles-related SPC risk, potentially aiding in the early prediction and prevention of SPC.

Abstract Background Based on the perspective of social network theory, this study explored the network indicator system that facilitated optimal knowledge sharing effect in Medication Therapy Management Services (MTMS) training teams. The aim was to provide a reference for optimizing MTMS training and improving training quality. Methods Utilizing social network analysis combined with a questionnaire survey, a knowledge sharing matrix for MTMS training teams was constructed. Knowledge sharing behavior was assessed from three perspectives: individual networks, whole networks, and cohesive subgroups. Results Individual network analysis showed that the knowledge sharing effect within the training team reached its peak when the out-degree centrality was ≥ 3.5, in-degree centrality was ≥ 2.5, eigenvector centrality was ≥ 0.065, and closeness centrality was ≥ 7.86. Whole network analysis indicated that the optimal knowledge sharing effect occurred when the network density of the training team was higher than 0.0343 and the training size was less than 117 participants. Cohesion subgroups analysis demonstrated that knowledge sharing was more effective when members with similar working years participated in training together. Conclusions The knowledge sharing indicator system developed for MTMS training teams, based on social network analysis, can assist in optimizing the MTMS training model and improving training effectiveness.

Abstract Background Our previous study revealed that feeding the antimicrobial peptide (AMP) product Scy-hepc significantly enhances the growth of mariculture fish through the activation of the GH-Jak2-STAT5-IGF1 axis. However, the contribution of gut microbiota to this growth enhancement remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanism involved in intestinal absorption and modulation of gut microbiota in Epinephelus akaara following Scy-hepc feeding. Results The results showed that a 35 day regimen of Scy-hpec markedly promoted the growth of E. akaara compared to groups supplemented with either florfenicol, B. subtilis, or a vector. The growth enhancement is likely attributed to alterations in microbiota colonization in the foregut and midgut, characterized by an increasing abundance of potential probiotics (Rhizobiaceae and Lysobacter) and a decreased abundance of opportunistic pathogens (Psychrobacter and Brevundimonas) as determined by 16S rRNA analysis. Additionally, similar to the effect of florfenicol feeding, Scy-hepc significantly improved host survival rate by over 20% in response to a lethal dose challenge with Edwardsiella tarda. Further investigations demonstrated that Scy-hepc is absorbed by the fish foregut (20–40 min) and midgut (20–30 min) as confirmed by Western blot, ELISA, and Immunofluorescence. The absorption of Scy-hepc affected the swimming, swarming and surfing motility of Vibrio harveyi and Bacillus thuringiensis isolated from E. akaara’s gut. Moreover, Scy-hepc induced the downregulation of 40 assembly genes and the upregulation expression of 5, with the most significant divergence in gene expression between opportunistic pathogens and probiotics concentrated in their motility genes (PomA/B, MotA/B). Conclusions In summary, this study shows that feeding AMP Scy-hepc can promote growth and bolster immunity in E. akaara. These beneficial effects are likely due to the absorption of Scy-hepc in the fish’s foregut and midgut, which modulates the colonization and motility of commensal bacteria, leading to favorable changes in the composition of the foregut and midgut microbiota. Therefore, a profound understanding of the mechanisms by which antimicrobial peptides affect host gut microbiota will contribute to a comprehensive assessment of their advantages and potential application prospects as substitutes for antibiotics in fish health and improving aquaculture practices.

Abstract Tamoxifen (TAM) resistance is a major challenge in treating oestrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancers. It is possible that the H2S synthase cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE), which has been previously shown to promote tumour growth and metastasis in other cancer cells, is involved in this resistance. Therefore, we investigated CSE's role and potential mechanisms in TAM-resistant breast cancer cells. First, we examined the effect of CSE expression on TAM sensitivity and resistance in MCF7 (breast cancer) cells. The findings revealed that CSE was directly associated with TAM sensitivity and involved in TAM resistance in ER+ breast cancer cells, indicating that it may be useful as a biomarker. Next, we wanted to determine the molecular mechanism of CSE's role in TAM resistance. Using cell migration, co-immunoprecipitation, western blotting, and cell viability assays, we determined that the CSE/H2S system can affect the expression of PPARγ by promoting the sulfhydrylation of PPARγ, which regulates the transcriptional activity of ACSL1. ACSL1, in turn, influences STAT3 activation by affecting the phosphorylation, palmitoylation and dimerization of STAT3, ultimately leading to the development of TAM resistance in breast cancer. Finally, we examined the effect of CSE inhibitors on reducing drug resistance to determine whether CSE may be used as a biomarker of TAM resistance. We observed that the novel CSE inhibitor I194496 can reverse TAM resistance in TAM-resistant breast cancer via targeting the PPARγ/ACSL1/STAT3 signalling pathway. Overall, our data indicate that CSE may serve as a biomarker of TAM resistance and that the CSE inhibitor I194496 is a promising candidate for combating TAM resistance.

Abstract To prevent zinc (Zn) dendrite formation and improve electrochemical stability, it is essential to understand Zn dendrite growth, particularly in terms of morphology and relation with the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film. In this study, we employ in-situ scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) and spectro-ptychography to monitor the morphology evolution of Zn dendrites and to identify their chemical composition and distribution on the Zn surface during the stripping/plating progress. Our findings reveal that in 50 mM ZnSO4, the initiation of moss/whisker dendrites is chemically controlled, while their continued growth over extended cycles is kinetically governed. The presence of a dense and stable SEI film is critical for inhibiting the formation and growth of Zn dendrites. By adding 50 mM lithium chloride (LiCl) as an electrolyte additive, we successfully construct a dense and stable SEI film composed of Li2S2O7 and Li2CO3, which significantly improves cycling performance. Moreover, the symmetric cell achieves a prolonged cycle life of up to 3900 h with the incorporation of 5% 12-crown-4 additives. This work offers a strategy for in-situ observation and analysis of Zn dendrite formation mechanisms and provides an effective approach for designing high-performance Zn-ion batteries.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effects of Shuanglongjiegu pill (SLJGP) on the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and explore its mechanism based on miR-217/RUNX2 axis. Results found that drug-containing serum of SLJGP promoted BMSCs viability with a dose-dependent effect. Under osteogenic differentiation conditions, SLJGP promoted the expression of ALP, OPN, BMP2, RUNX2, and the osteogenic differentiation ability of BMSCs. In addition, SLJGP significantly reduced miR-217 expression, and miR-217 directly targeted RUNX2. After treatment with miR-217 mimic, the promoting effects of SLJGP on proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs were significantly inhibited. MiR-217 mimic co-treated with pcDNA-RUNX2 further confirmed that the miR-217/RUNX2 axis was involved in SLJGP to promote osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. In addition, analysis of Wnt/β-catenin pathway protein expression showed that SLJGP activated the Wnt/β-catenin pathway through miR-217/RUNX2. In conclusion, SLJGP promoted osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs by regulating miR-217/RUNX2 axis and activating Wnt/β-catenin pathway.

Using strong electromagnetic fields generated by lasers to interact with electrons for precise diagnosis and manipulation of electron beams represents a recent focal point in accelerator technology. This approach surpasses the limitations of conventional RF technology, such as low electric field gradients and timing jitters, effectively enhancing the accuracy of ultrafast electron beam diagnostics and manipulations. As demands for precision continue to rise, the precise diagnosis of crucial parameters of ultrafast electron beams remains challenging. This study delves into the electromagnetic behavior of THz-driven devices and proposes an all-optical method utilizing single-cycle THz radiation to compress and characterize a 3 MeV electron beam. Particle tracking simulations demonstrate an astonishing compression effect, reducing the bunch length from 54.0 fs to 4.3 fs, and achieving sub-femtosecond bunch length measurement resolution. Moreover, when combined with an orthogonal THz streak camera, this method shows even greater potential in multi-bunch scenarios.

Abstract Visual-vestibular conflicts can induce motion sickness and further postural instability. Visual-vestibular habituation is recommended to reduce the symptoms of motion sickness and improve postural stability with an altered multisensory reweighting progress. However, it is unclear how the human brain reweights multisensory information after repeated exposure to visual-vestibular conflicts. Therefore, we synchronized a rotating platform and a virtual scene to present visual-vestibular congruent (natural visual stimulation) and incongruent (conflicted visual stimulation) conditions and collected EEG and center of pressure (COP) data. We constructed the effective brain connectivity of region of interest (ROI) derived from source-space EEG in theta-band activity, and quantified the postural stability and the inflow and outflow of each ROI. We found repeated exposure to congruent and incongruent conditions both decreased COP path length and increased COP complexity. Besides, we found that repeated exposure to the incongruent environment decreased the inflow into visual cortex, suggesting the brain down-weighted the less reliable visual information for postural stability. In contrast, repeated exposure to the congruent environment increased the inflow into posterior parietal cortex and the outflow from visual cortex and S1, suggesting an increase in efficiency of multisensory integration. We concluded that repeated exposure to congruent and incongruent conditions both improved postural stability with different multisensory reweighting patterns as revealed by different dynamic changes of brain networks.

Abstract Background Lung cancer is one of the major threats to human life worldwide. MiR‐190 has been found to perform essential roles in multiple cancer progression; however, there have been no studies focused on its function and underlying regulatory mechanism in lung cancer. Method The miR‐190 expression was detected by real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR). The cell functional experiments, including cell counting kit‐8 (CCK‐8), colony formation and transwell assay were conducted in vitro, as well as animal experiments performed in vivo. The regulation and potential binding sites of CBX4 on miR‐190 were predicted by TCGA data set and JASPAR website and verified by ChIP assay and dual‐luciferase reporter assay. The prospects binding site of miR‐190‐3p on CBX4 3′UTR region was predicted by StarBase and verified by dual‐luciferase reporter assay. Results MiR‐190 was decreased in lung cancer cells. The overexpression of miR‐190 had no effects on cell proliferation, but significantly inhibited cancer metastasis both in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, miR‐190 expression could be transcriptionally inhibited by CBX4, and CBX4 was the direct target of miR‐190‐3p. Conclusion MiR‐190 served as a cancer metastasis inhibitor in lung cancer and formed a regulatory loop with CBX4. These findings provided emerging insights into therapeutic targets and strategies for metastatic lung cancer.

Fly ash grouting is a common method for mine fire prevention and control. Aiming at the problems of fly ash slurry which is prone to water-loss cracking, poor stability and low fire prevention efficiency, fly ash colloids were prepared by adding high molecular polymer xanthan gum (XG) and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) to fly ash slurry, and the gel formation time, water-retaining property and thermal stability of fly ash colloids with different water-cement ratios were tested. The effect of colloid on the inhibition of coal spontaneous combustion was studied by programmed temperature. The results showed that when the water-cement ratio of fly ash slurry was 10∶1, the glue formation time was 9.52 min, and the water-retaining property and static stability were good. The fly ash colloid exhibited the shear dilution phenomenon of non-Newtonian fluid, and the energy storage modulus G′ was higher than the loss modulus G″. It was a pseudo-plastic fluid conforming to the power law model, and exhibited the properties of elastic solid. The weight loss process of fly ash colloidal heating can be divided into three stages (30-100 ℃, 218-380 ℃ and 380-800 ℃), and the total mass loss was about 6.17%. Fly ash colloid had the function of high moisture content, oxygen isolation and fissure sealing. The inhibition rate of coal sample after inhibition was 75.86%, and the corresponding temperature point of CO and C2H4 gas generation were 30 ℃ and 20 ℃ later than that of raw coal. The spontaneous combustion process of coal had been effectively inhibited.

Abstract Background Chronic migraine is closely related to the dysregulation of neurochemical substances in the brain, with metabolic imbalance being one of the proposed causes of chronic migraine. This study aims to evaluate the metabolic changes between energy metabolism and excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in key brain regions of mice with chronic migraine-like state and to uncover the dysfunctional pathways of migraine. Methods A chronic migraine-like state mouse model was established by repeated administration of nitroglycerin (NTG). We used von Frey filaments to assess the mechanical thresholds of the hind paw and periorbital in wild-type and familial hemiplegic migraine type 2 mice. After the experiments, tissue was collected from five brain regions: the somatosensory cortex (SSP), hippocampus, thalamus (TH), hypothalamus, and the spinal trigeminal nucleus caudalis (TNC). Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) was employed to study the changes in brain metabolites associated with migraine, aiming to explore the mechanisms underlying metabolic imbalance in chronic migraine-like state. Results In NTG-induced chronic migraine-like state model, we observed a significant reduction in energy metabolism during central sensitization, an increase in excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate, and a tendency for inhibitory neurotransmitters like GABA to decrease. The TNC and thalamus were the most affected regions. Furthermore, the consistency of N-acetylaspartate levels highlighted the importance of the TNC-TH-SSP pathway in the ascending nociceptive transmission of migraine. Conclusion Abnormal energy metabolism and neurotransmitter imbalance in the brain region of NTG-induced chronic migraine-like state model are crucial mechanisms contributing to the chronicity of migraine.

Based on 778 earthquakes (2009—2022) and their observation reports recorded by the Hunan Seismic Network, through the analysis of the cross-correlation of the waveforms, 149 repeated earthquake pairs were identified which were recorded at least 3 stations with cross-correlation coefficients no less than 0.8. After obtaining these data, the location errors and phase picking errors of the Hunan Seismic Network were statistically analyzed. The results show that the horizontal location error is around 3.5 km, and the vertical location error is around 3 km. The Pg and Sg phase picking errors are about 0.4 s and 0.7 s, respectively. There is no significant difference in location error in Hunan region, except for the Changde area, where the error is basically within 4 km.

Abstract Background Concerns have been raised regarding changes in lipid profiles among patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) during tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF) treatment. We aimed to evaluate the effect of TAF treatment on the lipid profiles of patients with CHB. Abstract We aimed to explore the mineralization characteristics of soil organic carbon(SOC) under different plant species in semi-arid grassland and provide basic soil carbon cycling data. Leymus chinensis, Stipa krylovii Roshev, Artemisia frigida, and Agrophorn cristam (L.) Gaertn were selected as the plant species. Incubation experiment were conducted on SOC mineralization in soil aggregates with particle sizes of > 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2 mm was the highest, exceeding that of A. cristam (L.) Gaertn by approximately 136.14%. S. krylovii Roshev (70.73%), L. chinensis (58.05%), and A. frigida (33.73%) exhibited pronounced promotion effects on mineralization. The potential SOC mineralization of S. krylovii Roshev was the greatest among all species at the same soil particle size. The potential SOC mineralization was highest at a particle size of > 2 mm for all plant types. All plant types increased the SOC mineralization rate and cumulative mineralization in soils with large particle sizes, the mineralization reaction occurred more strongly. Organic carbon cumulative SOC mineralization rapidly increased in all tests during the first 20 days and gradually slowed thereafter.

Abstract Background Colony stimulating factor 1 (CSF1) is generally expressed by immune cells in response to pro-inflammatory stimuli. The CSF1 receptor (CSFR) is activated by CSF1, and plays a key role in macrophage homeostasis. Furthermore, the CSF1R+ macrophages maintain homeostasis in the intestinal epithelium. The aim of this study was to explore the functions of CSF1-expressing and CSF1R+ macrophages in necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which commonly affects the ileum of neonates. Methods In-situ CSF1 expression in the intestines of neonates with NEC or intestinal atresia (n = 4 each) was detected by immunofluorescence staining. The CSF1 levels in the intestinal crypt-derived organoid cultures were measured by ELISA. Peripheral blood monocyte-derived Mφ macrophages were co-cultured with the organoids and stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to mimic the inflamed state of the ileum in NEC patients. Results CSF1 was expressed in the intestinal epithelial cells of the fetal and neonatal samples, but suppressed in the NEC samples. Furthermore, CSF1 expression was downregulated in the intestinal crypt-derived organoids by LPS. CSF1R+ macrophages were detected near the intestinal crypts in the non-inflamed intestines but were absent in tissues obtained from pediatric NEC patients. Peripheral blood monocyte-derived macrophages promoted intestinal organoid proliferation in vitro following CSF1 stimulation. Finally, low concentrations of LPS slightly enhanced the proliferation of organoids co-cultured with the macrophages, whereas higher doses had a significant inhibitory effect. Conclusions Intestinal epithelial cells express CSF1 to regulate the resident macrophages, maintain epithelial homeostasis, and resist infection. The abundant CSF1R+ macrophages in the fetal intestine may overexpress TNF-α upon activation of the TLR4/NF-κB pathway, resulting in epithelial damage and NEC induction.

Abstract Cavity optomechanical systems have enabled precision sensing of magnetic fields, by leveraging the optical resonance-enhanced readout and mechanical resonance-enhanced response. Previous studies have successfully achieved mass-produced and reproducible microcavity optomechanical magnetometry (MCOM) by incorporating Terfenol-D thin films into high-quality (Q) factor whispering gallery mode (WGM) microcavities. However, the sensitivity was limited to 585 pT Hz−1/2, over 20 times inferior to those using Terfenol-D particles. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a high-sensitivity and mass-produced MCOM approach by sputtering a FeGaB thin film onto a high-Q SiO2 WGM microdisk. Theoretical studies are conducted to explore the magnetic actuation constant and noise-limited sensitivity by varying the parameters of the FeGaB film and SiO2 microdisk. Multiple magnetometers with different radii are fabricated and characterized. By utilizing a microdisk with a radius of 355 μm and a thickness of 1 μm, along with a FeGaB film with a radius of 330 μm and a thickness of 1.3 μm, we have achieved a remarkable peak sensitivity of 1.68 pT Hz−1/2 at 9.52 MHz. This represents a significant improvement of over two orders of magnitude compared with previous studies employing sputtered Terfenol-D film. Notably, the magnetometer operates without a bias magnetic field, thanks to the remarkable soft magnetic properties of the FeGaB film. Furthermore, as a proof of concept, we have demonstrated the real-time measurement of a pulsed magnetic field simulating the corona current in a high-voltage transmission line using our developed magnetometer. These high-sensitivity magnetometers hold great potential for various applications, such as magnetic induction tomography and corona current monitoring.

Abstract Background Failure to restore missing teeth in time can easily lead to the mesial tilting of the distal abutment teeth. However, a fixed partial denture (FPD) can improve stress conduction and distribution and prevent periodontal injuries. In these more complex cases, it is necessary to consider various factors comprehensively to improve conventional treatment planning and achieve better results. Methods We selected a patient with a missing first molar and a mesial inclination of the second molar, leaving inadequate space or bone mass for implant denture restoration, necessitating an FPD for restoration. Three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D-FEA) combined with photoelastic analysis were used to explore how the inclination angle (0 ‒ 30°) and different dental restoration materials (zirconia, lithium disilicate, polymer-infiltrated ceramic network, and resin composite) affect the biomechanical behaviour of FPD‒abutments‒periodontal tissue complex. Results The stress was easily concentrated in the FPD connectors, enamel shoulder collar, periapical area, and root bifurcation. The stress on FPD and the periodontal ligament (PDL) of the second premolar increased with an increase in the elastic modulus of FPD, with an opposite trend in the abutments, the alveolar bone, and the PDL of the second molar. The stress on the FPD and alveolar bone increased with increased inclination angle of the distal abutment. The stress on two abutments and their PDL were positively correlated with the inclination angle in two stages; however, when the inclination angle > 12°, the second premolar and its PDL showed a negative correlation. Conclusions FPDs can be used for restoration within 24° of distal abutment inclination, but protecting the abutments ( 12° especially) must be taken seriously. For this purpose, an FPD material with higher strength is recommended.

Member 5 of the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation (T3X5) in central Sichuan Basin has made a breakthrough in exploration recently. However, this new stratum has not been investigated sufficiently with respect to basic geology, making its types and distribution of sedimentary facies unclear, which severely restricts its subsequent exploration evaluation. In this study, types of sedimentary microfacies in the first sand group of T3X5 (T3X51) are clarified through core observation and logging interpretation using core, log and seismic data, and then distribution of sedimentary microfacies in T3X51 is determined according to seismic waveform features and seismic prediction. The results show that T3X51 in the Dongfengchang area is mainly composed of deltaic deposits of several microfacies, such as delta front underwater distributary channel, sheet sand, and interdistributary bay. On seismic sections, different microfacies are significantly different in waveform features, the underwater distributary channel is characterized by one trough between two peaks, while diversion bay exhibits chaotic reflections between T6 and T51. The sedimentary microfacies varied greatly during the depositional period of T3X51 in the Dongfengchang area, this is because that the sediment supply was mainly controlled by the southwest and southeast provenance regions. Three superimposed underwater distributary channels are developed in the Dongfengchang area. The phase-1 superimposed underwater distributary channel in the northwest transition to sheet sand in the northeast, the phase-2 superimposed underwater distributary channel in the south extends shortly, the phase-3 superimposed underwater distributary channel in the northeast has a large development scale. These research findings are helpful to guide the subsequent exploration of T3X5 gas reservoir and also theoretically significant for investigating the depositional evolution of the Xujiahe Formation in central Sichuan Basin.

Abstract Although graphene oxide (GO) has extensive recognized application prospects in slow-release fertilizer, plant pest control, and plant growth regulation, the incorporation of GO into nano herbicides is still in its early stages of development. This study selected a pair of sweet corn sister lines, nicosulfuron (NIF)-resistant HK301 and NIF-sensitive HK320, and sprayed them both with 80 mg kg–1 of GO-NIF, with clean water as a control, to study the effect of GO-NIF on sweet corn seedling growth, photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, and antioxidant system enzyme activity. Compared to spraying water and GO alone, spraying GO-NIF was able to effectively reduce the toxic effect of NIF on sweet corn seedlings. Compared with NIF treatment, 10 days after of spraying GO-NIF, the net photosynthetic rate (A), stomatal conductance (G s ), transpiration rate (E), photosystem II photochemical maximum quantum yield (Fv/Fm), photochemical quenching coefficient (qP), and photosynthetic electron transfer rate (ETR) of GO-NIF treatment were significantly increased by 328.31%, 132.44%, 574.39%, 73.53%, 152.41%, and 140.72%, respectively, compared to HK320. Compared to the imbalance of redox reactions continuously induced by NIF in HK320, GO-NIF effectively alleviated the observed oxidative pressure. Furthermore, compared to NIF treatment alone, GO-NIF treatment effectively increased the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in both lines, indicating GO induced resistance to the damage caused by NIF to sweet corn seedlings. This study will provides an empirical basis for understanding the detoxification promoting effect of GO in NIF and analyzing the mechanism of GO induced allogeneic detoxification in cells.

Abstract Topological semimetals, possessing topologically non-trivial band structures, serve as excellent platforms for realizing topological superconductivity through hard point-contact experiments. In this study, we successfully induce superconductivity in the three-dimensional Dirac semimetal, cubic PtBi2, using ferromagnetic and paramagnetic tips in hard point contact experiments. The induced superconductivity is proven to be insensitive to ferromagnetism and exhibits unconventional features in the point-contact spectra. The highest superconducting transition temperature ( T c $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ ) reaches approximately 5.1 K, and the T c $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ values are proven to have a positive correlation with the coupling between the tip and the sample. Furthermore, we extend our point-contact experiments to trigonal PtBi2, a material possessing a type-I Weyl semimetal band structure and triply degenerate points proximate to the Fermi level. Utilizing both ferromagnetic Ni tips and paramagnetic Ag tips, we successfully enhance superconductivity with a T c $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of up to 3.0 K in this material. The findings from point-contact measurements reveal that the enhanced superconductivity is compatible with ferromagnetism and the magnetism of the tip can affect the symmetry of the enhanced superconducting state. Given that the lattice structure remains stable under pressure up to 51.2 GPa for cubic PtBi2 and 12.9 GPa for trigonal PtBi2, the emergent superconducting states observed in these two PtBi2 materials could inherit their topological nontrivial nature and be promising candidates for topological superconductor.

Abstract Objective To conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in Rare diseases (RDs), with a focus on analyzing publication output, identifying leading contributors by country, assessing the extent of international collaboration, tracking the emergence of research hotspots, and detecting trends through keyword bursts. Methods In this bibliometric study, we identified and retrieved publications on AI applications in RDs spanning 2003 to 2023 from the Web of Science (WoS). We conducted a global research landscape analysis and utilized CiteSpace to perform keyword clustering and burst detection in this field. Results A total of 1501 publications were included in this study. The evolution of AI applications in RDs progressed through three stages: the start-up period (2003–2010), the steady development period (2011–2018), and the accelerated growth period (2019–2023), reflecting this field’s increasing importance and impact at the time of the study. These studies originated from 85 countries, with the United States as the leading contributor. “Mutation”, “Diagnosis”, and “Management” were the top three keywords with high frequency. Keyword clustering analysis identified gene identification, effective management, and personalized treatment as three primary research areas of AI applications in RDs. Furthermore, the keyword burst detection indicated a growing interest in the areas of “biomarker”, “predictive model”, and “data mining”, highlighting their potential to shape future research directions. Conclusions Over two decades, research on the AI applications in RDs has made remarkable progress and shown promising results in the development. Advancing international transboundary cooperation is essential moving forward. Utilizing AI will play a more crucial role across the spectrum of RDs management, encompassing rapid diagnosis, personalized treatment, drug development, data integration and sharing, and continuous monitoring and care.

Abstract Background Current research lacks comprehensive investigation into the biomechanical changes in the spinal cord and nerve roots during scoliosis correction. This study employs finite element analysis to extensively explore these biomechanical variations across different Cobb angles, providing valuable insights for clinical treatment. Methods A personalized finite element model, incorporating vertebrae, ligaments, spinal cord, and nerve roots, was constructed using engineering software. Forces and displacements were applied to achieve Cobb angle improvements, designating T1/2-T4/5 as the upper segment, T5/6-T8/9 as the middle segment, and T9/10-L1/2 as the lower segment. Simulations under traction, pushing, and traction + torsion conditions were conducted, and biomechanical changes in each spinal cord segment and nerve roots were analyzed. Results Throughout the scoliosis correction process, the middle spinal cord segment consistently exhibited a risk of injury under various conditions and displacements. The lower spinal cord segment showed no significant injury changes under traction + torsion conditions. In the early correction phase, the upper spinal cord segment demonstrated a risk of injury under all conditions, and the lower spinal cord segment presented a risk of injury under pushing conditions. Traction conditions posed a risk of nerve injury on both sides in the middle and lower segments. Under pushing conditions, there was a risk of nerve injury on both sides in all segments. Traction + torsion conditions implicated a risk of injury to the right nerves in the upper segment, both sides in the middle segment, and the left side in the lower segment. In the later correction stage, there was a risk of injury to the upper spinal cord segment under traction + torsion conditions, the left nerves in the middle segment under traction conditions, and the right nerves in the upper segment under pushing conditions. Conclusion When the correction rate reaches 61–68%, particular attention should be given to the upper-mid spinal cord. Pushing conditions also warrant attention to the lower spinal cord and the nerve roots on both sides of the main thoracic curve. Traction conditions require attention to nerve roots bilaterally in the middle and lower segments, while traction combined with torsion conditions necessitate focus on the right-side nerve roots in the upper segment, both sides in the middle segment, and the left-side nerve roots in the lower segment.
