It is an important but difficult issue to identify charge and energy transfer processes in materials where multiple band gaps coexist. Conventional methods using transient absorption and optoelectrical characterization based on devices could not provide a clear picture of transfer dynamics. According to the bimolecular and monomolecular nature of each process, the carrier dynamics is supposed to solve this issue. In this work, we established a novel, convenient and universal strategy based on the calculation of carrier dynamics to distinguish energy/charge transfer and reveal their transfer dynamics in methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3) films with mixing wide-band gap small grains and narrow-band gap large grains. A highly efficient charge transfer process is confirmed with a high negative nonradiative bimolecular recombination coefficient of -2.12 x 10(-7)cm(-3) s(-1), indicating that free carriers within small grains are efficiently transferred from small grains to large grains. As a result, emission from large grains becomes dominant when increasing the photoexcitation intensity. In addition, current-density-dependent electroluminescence results in emission only from large grains, further verifying the charge transfer process. Moreover, it is interesting to find that when decreasing the size of small grains, the charge transfer process is facilitated, leading to an increased nonradiative bimolecular recombination coefficient from -2.12 x 10(-7) to -4.01 x 10(-7) cm(-3) s(-1) in large grains. Our work provides a convenient strategy to identify and quantify energy and charge transfer in metal halide perovskites, which can be used to enrich our understanding of perovskite photophysics. The threshold carrier density, conventionally evaluated from optical pumping, is a key reference parameter towards electrically pumped lasers with the widely acknowledged assumption that optically excited charge carriers relax to the band edge through an ultrafast process. However, the characteristically slow carrier cooling in perovskites challenges this assumption. Here, we investigate the optical pumping of state-of-the-art bromide- and iodine-based perovskites. We find that the threshold decreases by one order of magnitude with decreasing excitation energy from 3.10 eV to 2.48 eV for methylammonium lead bromide perovskite (MAPbBr(3)), indicating that the low-energy photon excitation facilitates faster cooling and hence enables efficient carrier accumulation for population inversion. Our results are then interpreted due to the coupling of phonon scattering in connection with the band structure of perovskites. This effect is further verified in the two-photon pumping process, where the carriers relax to the band edge with a smaller difference in phonon momentum that speeds up the carrier cooling process. Furthermore, by extrapolating the optical pumping threshold to the band edge excitation as an analog of the electrical carrier injection to the perovskite, we obtain a critical threshold carrier density of similar to 1.9 x 10(17) cm(-3), which is one order of magnitude lower than that estimated from the conventional approach. Our work thus highlights the feasibility of metal halide perovskites for electrically pumped lasers. In recent years, deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been widely applied to handle low-level vision problems. However, most existing CNN-based approaches can either handle single degeneration each time or treat them jointly through feature entangling, thus likely leading to poor performance when the actual degradation is inconsistent with hypothetical degradation condition. Furthermore, feature coupling will bring a large amount of computation, which may make the methods impractical to real-time mobile scenarios. In order to address these problems, we propose a deep decoupled cooperative learning model which can not only develop the corresponding recover network to deal with each degradation, but also flexibly handle multiple degradations at the same time. Thus, our approach can achieve disentangling and synthesizing single image super-resolution and motion deblurring, which has high practicability. We evaluate the proposed approach on various benchmark datasets, covering both natural images and synthetic images. The results demonstrate its superiority, compared to the state-of-the-art, where image SR and motion deblurring can be accomplished effectively concurrently. Incorporating chiral organic compounds into metal halide frames is a common and useful method to introduce chirality in metal halide composites. The structures of resulting racemic and chiral composites are usually considered to be nearly identical owing to similar chemical bonding. In this work, by incorporating chiral MBABr (bromide methylbenzylamine) into an inorganic frame, a significant crystallization difference between the resulting racemic and chiral metal halide composites is observed, as confirmed by both structural and spectroscopic measurements. In addition, the structural transformation in the chiral composites can also be induced by moisture, ascribed to the asymmetric hydrogen bonding in chiral materials. These results provide new insights for the future synthesis of chiral materials and open up new possibilities to advance the materials functionalities. Manganese-based organic-inorganic metal halide composites have been considered as promising candidates for lead-free emitters. However, in spite of their excellent luminescence properties in green and red regions, blue emission-a critical component for white light generation-from pristine manganese-based composites is currently missing. In this work, we successfully achieve blue luminescence center in manganese-based composites through selecting specific organic component methylbenzylamine (MBA). Our approach is fundamentally different from green and red emission in manganese-based composites, which result from manganese-halide frameworks. The coexistence of different luminescence centers in our manganese-based composites is confirmed by photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) results. As a result of different photoluminescence excitation responses of different emission centers, the resulting emission color can be tuned with selecting different excitation wavelengths. Specifically, a white light emission can be obtained with Commission Internationale de leclairage coordinates of (0.33, 0.35) upon the 330 nm excitation. We further demonstrate the promise of our manganese-based composites in the anti-counterfeiting technology and multicolor lighting. Our results provide a novel strategy for full-spectral emission in manganese-based organic-inorganic metal halide composites and lay a solid foundation for a range of new applications. Poyang Lake Basin is of great importance to maintain regional ecological balance. However, fish biodiversity in this basin has rapidly declined as the result of anthropogenic habitat alteration, such as dam construction, sand mining, and water pollution. Here, we aimed to analyze the temporal and spatial changes in biodiversity patterns of fish in Poyang Lake Basin over the last 37 years. The number of fish species underwent a significant decrease in the current period. In particular, 36.7% of the migration of fish was extirpated. Twenty‐seven fish species have been formally assessed using the Chinese Red List were currently listed as Critically Endangered (9), Endangered (3), Vulnerable (10), and Near Threatened (5). Alpha and gamma diversity revealed that fish diversity had also decreased, and beta diversity showed significant composition dissimilarity in two periods. PCoA showed that the historical fish composition dissimilarity was significantly different from that of the current period. We found a significant effect of the geographical distance on the spatial turnover component for the historical and current periods. In addition, the nestedness component was the main contributor to beta diversity, which indicated one large protected area should be established in Poyang Lake and the Ganjiang River Basin with higher species richness. These results indicated that fish biodiversity declined in the current period likely caused by anthropogenic habitat alteration and other threatened factors. Therefore, we suggest that the habitat reconstruction and biodiversity conservation for fish have become imperative in this basin, and a complete management plan should be carried out., Poyang Lake Basin is of great importance to maintain regional ecological balance. Summary This paper reports a new method to generate stable and high-brightness electroluminescence (EL) by subsequently growing large/small grains at micro/nano scales with the configuration of attaching small grains on the surfaces of large grains in perovskite (MAPbBr3) films by mixing two precursor solutions (PbBr2 + MABr and Pb(Ac)2·3H2O + MABr). Consequently, the small and large grains serve, respectively, as passivation agents and light-emitting centers, enabling self-passivation on the defects located on the surfaces of light-emitting large grains. Furthermore, the light-emitting states become linearly polarized with maximal polarization of 30.8%, demonstrating a very stable light emission (49,119 cd/m2 with EQE = 11.31%) and a lower turn-on bias (1.9 V) than the bandgap (2.25V) in the perovskite LEDs (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/MAPbBr3/TPBi[50 nm]/LiF[0.7 nm]/Ag). A novel time calibration method for waveform sampling application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) based on switched capacitor arrays (SCAs) is proposed in this paper. Precision timing extraction using SCA ASICs has been proved to be a promising technique in many high energy physics experiments. However, such ASICs suffer from irregular sampling intervals caused by process variations. Therefore, careful calibration is required to improve the time resolution of such systems. We evaluated the limitation of a popular method using the proportionality between voltage amplitude and sampling interval of adjacent switched-capacitor cells responding to either a sawtooth wave or a sine wave . The new time calibration method presented here utilizes the relationship between sampling intervals and the known input signal period to establish overdetermined linear equations, and the roots of these equations correspond to the actual sampling intervals. We applied this new method to a pulse timing test with an ASIC designed by our team, and the test results indicate that the new time calibration method is effective.

The crisscross progress of transportation and energy carries the migrating track of human society development and the evolution of civilization, among which the decarbonization strategy is a key issue. Traffic carbon emissions account for 16.2% of total energy carbon emissions, while road traffic carbon emissions account for 11.8% of total energy carbon emissions. Therefore, road traffic is a vital battlefield in attaining the goal of decarbonization. Employing clean energy as an alternative fuel is of great significance to the transformation of the energy consumption structure in road transportation. Hydrogen and ammonia are renewable energy with the characteristics of being widely distributed and clean. Both exist naturally in nature, and the products of complete combustion are substances (water and nitrogen) that do not pollute the atmosphere. Because it can promote agricultural production, ammonia has a long history in human society. Both have the potential to replace traditional fossil fuel energy. An overview of the advantages of hydrogen and ammonia, as well as their development in different countries such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, and other major development regions is presented in this paper. Related research topics of hydrogen and ammonia’s production, storage and transferring technology have also been analyzed and collated to stimulate the energy production chain for road transportation. The current cost of green hydrogen is between $2.70–$8.80 globally, which is expected to approach $2–$6 by 2030. Furthermore, the technical development of hydrogen and ammonia as a fuel for engines and fuel cells in road transportation is compared in detail, and the tests, practical applications and commercial popularization of these technologies are summarized, respectively. Opportunities and challenges coexist in the era of the renewable energy. Based on the characteristics and development track of hydrogen and ammonia, the joint development of these two types of energy is meant to be imperative. The collaborative development mode of hydrogen and ammonia, together with the obstacles to their development of them are both compared and discussed. Finally, referring to the efforts and experiences of different countries in promoting hydrogen and ammonia in road transportation, corresponding constructive suggestions have been put forward for reference. At the end of the paper, a framework diagram of hydrogen and ammonia industry chains is provided, and the mutual promotion development relationship of the two energy sources is systematically summarized.

We report the discovery of a new unidentified extended $\gamma$-ray source in the Galactic plane named LHAASO J0341+5258 with a pre-trial significance of 8.2 standard deviations above 25 TeV. The best fit position is R.A.$=55.34^{\circ}\pm0.11^{\circ}$ and Dec$=52.97^{\circ}\pm0.07^{\circ}$. The angular size of LHAASO J0341+5258 is $0.29^\circ \pm 0.06^\circ_{stat} \pm0.02^\circ_{sys}$. The flux above 25 TeV is about $20\%$ of the flux of Crab Nebula. Although a power-law fit of the spectrum from 10 TeV to 200 TeV with the photon index $\alpha=2.98 \pm 0.19_{stat} \pm 0.02_{sys}$ is not excluded, the LHAASO data together with the flux upper limit at 10 GeV set by the Fermi LAT observation, indicate a noticeable steepening of an initially hard power-law spectrum %($\alpha \leq 1.75$) spectrum with a cutoff at $\approx 50$ TeV. We briefly discuss the origin of UHE gamma-rays. The lack of an energetic pulsar and a young SNR inside or in the vicinity of LHAASO J0341+5258 challenge, but do not exclude both the leptonic and hadronic scenarios of gamma-ray production., Comment: Accepted by APJL

Metal halide perovskites have shown rapid development in various fields such as photovoltaics, photodetectors, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and optically pumped lasers owing to their superior optoelectronic properties. Here, we review the basic optoelectronic properties of halide perovskites from a photophysical perspective. We highlight that halide perovskites are promising in various optoelectronic devices functioning at a wide range of carrier densities. We discuss optically and electrically generated carrier density under two different excitation modes [continuous wave (CW) and pulsed] as well as the impact of carrier density on the optoelectronic behavior of perovskites. Moreover, we discuss lasing actions at high carrier densities and summarize key rules to evaluate the lasing actions. Last, we provide an outlook on perovskite-based electrically pumped lasers. One of the most critical challenges in perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) lies in poor operational stability. Although field dependent ion migration is believed to play an important role in the operation of perovskite optoelectronic devices, a complete understanding of how it affects the stability of PeLEDs is still missing. Here, we report a unique self-repairing behavior that the electroluminescence of moderately degraded PeLEDs can almost completely restore to their initial performance after resting. We find that the accumulated halides within the hole transport layer undergo back diffusion toward the surface of the perovskite layer during resting, repairing the vacancies and thus resulting in electroluminescence recovery. These findings indicate that one of the dominant degradation pathways in PeLEDs is the generation of halide vacancies at perovskite/hole transport layer interface during operation. We thus further passivate this key interface, which results in a high external quantum efficiency of 22.8% and obviously improved operational stability. Bandgap tuning through mixing halide anions is one of the most attractive features for metal halide perovskites. However, mixed halide perovskites usually suffer from phase segregation under electrical biases. Herein, we obtain high-performance and color-stable blue perovskite LEDs (PeLEDs) based on mixed bromide/ chloride three-dimensional (3D) structures. We demonstrate that the color instability of CsPb(Br1-xClx)(3) PeLEDs results from surface defects at perovskite grain boundaries. By effective defect passivation, we achieve color-stable blue electroluminescence from CsPb(Br1-xClx)(3) PeLEDs, with maximum external quantum efficiencies of up to 4.5% and high luminance of up to 5351 cd m(-2) in the sky-blue region (489 nm). Our work provides new insights into the color instability issue of mixed halide perovskites and can spur new development of high-performance and color-stable blue PeLEDs. Understanding the feasibility to couple semiconducting and magnetic properties in metal halide perovskites through interface design opens new opportunities for creating the next generation spin‐related optoelectronics. In this work, a fundamentally new phenomenon of optically induced magnetization achieved by coupling photoexcited orbital magnetic dipoles with magnetic spins at perovskite/ferromagnetic interface is discovered. The depth‐sensitive polarized neutron reflectometry combined with in situ photoexcitation setup, constitutes key evidence of this novel effect. It is demonstrated that a circularly polarized photoexcitation induces a stable magnetization signal within the depth up to 7.5 nm into the surface of high‐quality perovskite (MAPbBr3) film underneath a ferromagnetic cobalt layer at room temperature. In contrast, a linearly polarized light does not induce any detectable magnetization in the MAPbBr3. The observation reveals that photoexcited orbital magnetic dipoles at the surface of perovskite are coupled with the spins of the ferromagnetic atoms at the interface, leading to an optically induced magnetization within the perovskite’s surface. The finding demonstrates that perovskite semiconductor can be bridged with magnetism through optically controllable method at room temperature in this heterojunction design. This provides the new concept of utilizing spin and orbital degrees of freedom in new‐generation spin‐related optoelectronic devices., The depth‐sensitive polarized neutron reflectometry technique reveals the optically induced static magnetization in metal halide perovskite by coupling photoexcited orbital magnetic dipoles with spins at perovskite/ferromagnetic interface. This work demonstrates that perovskite can be bridged with magnetism through optically controllable method in perovskite/ferromagnetic heterojunction, providing the new concept of utilizing spin and orbital degrees of freedom for spin‐related optoelectronics.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite thin films with nanostructured polycrystalline grains have shown great potential in various nanoscale optoelectrical applications. Among them, the field of electrical memory has fallen behind due to insufficient knowledge of the related resistive switching characters and mechanisms. In the present work, switching behaviors of perovskite memory devices are systematically analyzed by comparing them with organic memory devices. We found that decreasing the conductivity of a polycrystalline perovskite thin layer would lead to unipolar switching behaviors, which is supplementary to the present perovskite memory family where bipolar switching is commonly reported. Moreover, our proposed symmetrical device with a nanoscale heterolayer structure enables us not only to achieve highly reproducible unipolar switching devices but also to settle the argument whether microconducting channels exist within perovskite memory devices through characterizing the microscopic morphological homogeneity. Surprisingly, the scanning electron microscopy results show that partial 10 pm large perovskite grains would be decomposed into various 100 nm small grains under high external bias, indicating the presence of microconducting channels. Furthermore, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results together with photoluminescence results of the perovskite thin film before and after applying bias are nearly identical, demonstrating that microconducting channels are formed without any difference in compositions or optical properties. Our discoveries provide a practical strategy to achieve electrical storage via organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite thin-film devices. The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory is in the R&D phase, in which the Water Cherenkov Detector Array is an important part. The signals of Photo-Multiplier Tubes would vary from single photo electron to 4000 photo electrons, and both high precision charge and time measurement is required. To simplify the signal processing chain, the charge-to-time conversion method is employed. A prototype of the front-end readout ASIC is designed and fabricated in Chartered 0.35 ��m CMOS technology, which integrates time disctrimination and converts the input charge information to pulse widths. With Time-to-Digital Converters, both time and charge can be digitized at the same time. We have conducted initial tests on this chip, and the results indicate that a time resolution better than 0.5 ns is achieved over the full dynamic range (1~ 4000 photo electrons, corresponding to 0.75 ~ 3000 pC with the threshold of 0.188 pC); the charge resolution is better than 1% with large input amplitudes (500 ~ 4000 photo electrons), and remains better than 15% with a 1 photo electron input amplitude, which is beyond the application requirement.

The paper presents the design and measurement results of a transient waveform recording ASIC based on the Switched Capacitor Array (SCA) architecture. This 0.18 {\mu}m CMOS prototype device contains two channels and each channel employs a SCA of 128 samples deep, a 12-bit Wilkinson ADC and a serial data readout. A series of tests have been conducted and the results indicate that: a full 1 V signal voltage range is available, the input analog bandwidth is approximately 450 MHz and the sampling speed is adjustable from 0.076 to 3.2 Gsps (Gigabit Samples Per Second). For precision waveform timing extraction, careful calibration of timing intervals between samples is conducted to improve the timing resolution of such chips, and the timing precision of this ASIC is proved to be better than 15 ps RMS.

Time-Interleaved Analog-to-Digital Conversion (TIADC) is one of the significant technique in high speed waveform digitization systems. In our latest work, a 20-Gsps 12-bit TIADC system is designed and a series of tests are conducted on the proposed system and a broadband mismatch error correction is implemented. The test methods and results are specifically presented in this paper. The test results show that the -3dB bandwidth of the proposed system is 6 GHz and the ENOB performance is about 8.7 bits at 647 MHz and 7.6 bits at 6 GHz which is significantly enhanced by the mismatch error correction process.

The Yangtze River Basin (Changjiang Basin) hosts one of the most diverse freshwater mussel assemblages on Earth. However, due to human activities this fauna is dramatically imperiled in this region, highlighting the need for urgent conservation measures. To better protect and conserve these taxa, it is crucial to understand the main drivers that control the diversity patterns, as well as the anthropogenic influence on these patterns. Here, we estimated distinct diversity metrics (i.e. species richness and alpha, gamma, and beta diversity) to analyze the spatial freshwater mussel diversity changes across 16 tributaries and lakes from the middle and lower Yangtze River Basin, in two periods: past 1962–2012 and present. For the past, mussel records were compiled from previous studies, for the present, we surveyed 565 sites for freshwater mussel presence and abundance within the 16 selected areas. We also assessed several climatic and geographical parameters to try to identify the main factors that modulate species composition across the study area. We show that from the historical to the present periods, species diversity experienced a significant decrease, registering, per river/lake, an average of 5.4 extirpations of species native to China and 3.9 of the Yangtze River Basin endemics. The gamma diversity of the whole study area and the alpha diversity of each of the studied rivers and lakes have also decreased during this period. The beta diversity values indicated a significant trend towards taxonomic homogenization over the last decades. Poyang and Dongting Lakes should be considered for protection given due to their high diversity and species loss given that nestedness in these lakes represented the main component of beta diversity.

The Luoxiao Mountains play an important role in maintaining and supplementing the fish diversity of the Yangtze River Basin, which is also a biodiversity hotspot in China. However, fish biodiversity has declined rapidly in this area as the result of human activities and the consequent environmental changes. Beta diversity was a key concept for understanding the ecosystem function and biodiversity conservation. Beta diversity patterns are evaluated and important information provided for protection and management of fish biodiversity in the Luoxiao Mountains. The results showed that the spatial turnover component was the main contributor to beta diversity of Hemiramphidae, Amblycipitidae, Catostomidae, Clariidae, Balitoridae and Percichthyidae in the Luoxiao Mountains, which indicated that a number of protected areas would be necessary to conserve fish biodiversity and that these families would need conservation measures. Most protected areas are currently limited to some regions; therefore, in order to protect fish diversity, conservation efforts must target an increase in the number of protected areas which should be spread across each of the regions.

The vertically ordered (small-to-large n) quasi-2D perovskite films serve as common approaches to facilitate directional charge transfer. Here, we report a different strategy of uniformly arranging different-n-value nanoplates (PEA(2)MA(n-1)Pb(n)I(3n+1)) by introducing vacuum poling treatment to enforce nucleation during crystallization. This uniform distribution is verified by delicate mechanical tape-peeling method while monitoring optical absorption, photoluminescence (PL), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). With uniform distribution, efficient carrier transfer within 10 ps is revealed by transient absorption. Moreover, record-high fill factor (FF) of 82.4% with power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.04% (Voc = 1.223 V, Jsc = 17.91 mA/cm(2)) was demonstrated. Superior stability is achieved with retaining 96.1% of initial efficiency after 8-month storage and maintaining 97 7% at 80'C for over 180 h. This uniformly arranging different-n-value nanoplates offers a new material engineering strategy to enhance carrier transfer and extraction for developing high-efficiency and stable quasi-2D perovskite solar cells.

Time and charge measurements over a large dynamic range from 1 Photo Electron (P.E.) to 4000 P.E. are required for the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA), which is one of the key components in the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). To simplify the circuit structure of the readout electronics, a front end ASIC was designed. Based on the charge-to-time conversion method, the output pulse width of the ASIC corresponds to the input signal charge information while time information of the input signal is picked off through a discriminator, and thus the time and charge information can be digitized simultaneously using this ASIC and a following Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC). To address the challenge of mismatch among the channels observed in the previous prototype version, this work presents approaches for analyzing the problem and optimizing the circuits. A new version of the ASIC was designed and fabricated in the GLOBALFOUNDRIES 0.35 um CMOS technology, which integrates 6 channels (corresponding to the readout of the 3 PMTs) in each chip. The test results indicate that the mismatch between the channels is significantly reduced to less than 20% using the proposed approach. The time measurement resolution better than 300 ps is achieved, and the charge measurement resolution is better than 10% at 1 P.E., and 1% at 4000 P.E., which meets the application requirements.

Optoelectronic behavior in materials such as organic/inorganic hybrid perovskites depend on a complex interplay between fast (electronic) and slower (ionic) processes. These processes are thought to be influenced by structural inhomogeneities (e.g. interfaces and grain boundaries) bringing forward the necessity for development of techniques capable of correlating nanostructure and photo-transport behavior. While Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) is ideally suited to map surface potentials on relevant length scales, it lacks sufficient temporal resolution to extract the meaningful system dynamics. Here, we develop a time resolved surface photovoltage (SPV) measurement based on full information capture of the photodetector stream during open loop KPFM operation. G-Mode, or G-KPFM allows quantification of SPV with microsecond temporal and nanoscale spatial resolution. Using this technique, we observe concurrent spatial and fast temporal variations in the SPV generated across a methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3) thin film, a possible indicator relating microstructure with heterogenous photo-transport behavior. We further demonstrate the advantage of adopting big data analytics including unsupervised clustering methods to quickly discern spatial variability in the information rich SPV dataset. Beyond G-KPFM, such clustering methods will be useful for interpretation of the multidimensional datasets arising from the growing number of time resolved KPFM approaches now available.

The design and measurement results of a waveform digitizer based on the Switched Capacitor Array (SCA) architecture, fabricated in CMOS 180 nm technology, are presented. The prototype ASIC containing two channels inside is fully functional at a sampling rate of 2 Gsps with an analogue -3 dB bandwidth of about 450 MHz. Each channel integrates 128 sampling cells and a ramp-compare ADC. With this ASIC, sine waveform and reconstructed PMT waveform recording tests were conducted. We also evaluated its performance on fast pulse timing, and the timing precision is proved to be better than 20 ps RMS after a series of correction strategies.

Polarization effects on optoelectronic behaviors in perovskite-based devices are difficult to address due to quick electronic polarization relaxation and ionic polarization from mobile ions. Here we show the effects of polarized excited states on photoluminescence and photocurrent in MAPbBr3 thin-film devices. We found optically polarized transition dipoles, oriented paralleled and perpendicular to device built-in field, give rise to significantly different photoluminescence and photocurrent outcomes. It provides a new understanding that controlling domain geometry can further enhance the light-emitting and photovoltaic performance of perovskite-based applications. The observation proves that the anisotropy of photoexcited transition dipoles is existed in the electronic states of MAPbBr3. Particularly, this indicates that photo-induced electronic polarization can be shown as photoinduced dielectric polarization at the dipolar polarization regime, which impacts device performance. We also observed that increasing photoexcitation intensity leads to a decreases on both field-induced photoluminescence quenching and field-induced photocurrent enhancing, which implies a cooperative interaction between transition dipoles of increased density that favors light emission but infavors charge dissociation. This provides a critical understanding on why organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites can function as efficient photovoltaic and light-emitting materials at low and high excitation intensities, respectively. Our estimation shows that, by manipulating the ratio of dipole orientation, the efficiencies of perovskite-based LEDs and solar cells could be improved by 50% and 18%, respectively. Clearly, the polarization effect presents a new insight on further controlling photovoltaic and light-emitting actions by manipulating the polarization of excited states in perovskite optoelectronics.

This paper reports an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) initiated by intrinsically passivating grain boundary defects and aligning transition dipoles in polycrystalline perovskite (MAPbBr3) films. The method is developed by using concurrently occurring fast and slow growths to attach small grains on surfaces of large grains toward low-threshold ASE. This materials processing utilizes one-step solution method of mixing two MAPbBr3 precursor (PbBr2-based and Pb(Ac)2 · 3H2O-based) solutions to control two subsequent growths: quickly growing large grains followed by slowly growing small grains, leading to unique emitting centers from large grains and self-doping agents from small grains. With this design, spectral narrowing phenomenon is observed from the large grains with the full width at half maximum decreasing from 21 to 4 nm when the pumping fluence is increased from 2 to 10 µW, generating an efficient ASE. Concurrently, the observed ASE shows a linear polarization reaching 21.1%, indicating that the transition dipoles in large grains are linearly polarized with coherent interaction. Therefore, this processing strategy presents a unique method to intrinsically passivate grain boundary defects and align transition dipoles toward developing ASE by attaching small grains (serving as passivation agent) to the surfaces of large grains (functioning as light-emitting centers).

High precision and large dynamic range measurement are required in the readout systems for the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) in the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). This paper presents a prototype of a 12-bit 40 MSPS Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) designed for the readout of the LHAASO WCDA. Combining this ADC and the front-end ASIC finished in our previous work, high precision charge measurement can be achieved based on the digital peak detection method. This ADC is implemented based on a power-efficient Successive Approximation Register (SAR) architecture, which incorporates key parts such as a Capacitive Digital-to-Analog Converter (CDAC), dynamic comparator and asynchronous SAR control logic. The simulation results indicate that the Effective Number Of Bits (ENOB) with a sampling rate of 40 MSPS is better than 10 bits in an input frequency range below 20 MHz, while its core power consumption is 6.6 mW per channel. The above results are good enough for the readout requirements of the WCDA.

The morphologies of self-assembled Ge/Si(001) islands with initial Si capping at a temperature of 640 °C are investigated by atomic force microscopy. Before Si capping, the islands show a metastable dome shape with very good size uniformity. This dome shape changes to a pyramid shape with {103} facets at a Si capping thickness of 0.32 nm, and then changes to pyramid shapes with {104} and {105} facets at Si capping thicknesses of 0.42 and 0.64 nm, respectively. Noteworthy is that islands with one side retained their dome shape while the other three sides that changed to {103} facets are observed at a Si capping thickness of 0.18 nm. These observations indicate that island shape change with Si capping is a kinetic rather than thermodynamic process. The atomic processes associated with this island shape change are kinetically limited at a low temperature of 400 °C, and no significant change in size and shape of islands is observed when Si capping layers are deposited at this temperature.

Despite quick development of perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) during the past few years, the fundamental mechanisms on how ion migration affects device efficiency and stability remain unclear. Here, it is demonstrated that the dynamic redistribution of mobile ions in the emissive layer plays a key role in the performance of PeLEDs and can explain a range of abnormal behaviours commonly observed during the device measurement. The dynamic redistribution of mobile ions changes charge-carrier injection and leads to increased recombination current; at the same time, the ion redistribution also changes charge transport and results in decreased shunt resistance current. As a result, the PeLEDs show hysteresis in external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) and radiance, that is, higher EQEs and radiance during the reverse voltage scan than during the forward scan. In addition, the changes on charge injection and transport induced by the ion redistribution also well explain the rise of the EQE/radiance values under constant driving voltages. The argument is further rationalized by adding extra formamidinium iodide (FAI) into optimized PeLEDs based on FAPbI(3), resulting in more significant hysteresis and shorter operational stability of the PeLEDs. Orientational manipulation of transition dipole moment (TDM) plays an important role in controlling the polarization of excited states in light emission as well as lasing actions. The present work discovers vertically aligned TDMs in hybrid perovskite films through angle-resolved photoluminescence (PL) measurements, which show enhanced emission through the film edge. With increasing excitation intensity, the edge emission induced by these vertically aligned TDMs becomes dominant and eventually leads to amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) through the edge view. Meanwhile, polarized emission of both PL and electroluminescence (EL) provides further evidence for vertically aligned TDMs. Surprisingly, the degree of polarization (DOP) through the film edge is increased when grain boundary defects are passivated through either stochiometric engineering or self-passivation by mobile ions under working conditions. With increasing DOP, ASE threshold of the perovskite film is reduced owing to enhanced collective behaviors of light-emitting states. This work presents a useful method to manipulate TDMs in organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites.
