We study completion with respect to the iterated suspension functor on $\mathcal{O}$-algebras, where $\mathcal{O}$ is a reduced operad in symmetric spectra. This completion is the unit of a derived adjunction comparing $\mathcal{O}$-algebras with coalgebras over the associated iterated suspension-loop homotopical comonad via the iterated suspension functor. We prove that this derived adjunction becomes a derived equivalence when restricted to 0-connected $\mathcal{O}$-algebras and $r$-connected $\tilde{\Sigma}^r \tilde{\Omega}^r$-coalgebras. We also consider the dual picture, using iterated loops to build a cocompletion map from algebras over the iterated loop-suspension homotopical monad to $\mathcal{O}$-algebras. We prove that the stabilization of spaces functor---the classical construction of associating a spectrum to a pointed space by tensoring with the sphere spectrum---satisfies homotopical descent on objects and morphisms. This is the stabilization analog of the Quillen-Sullivan theory main result that the rational chains (resp. cochains) functor participates in a derived equivalence with certain coalgebra (resp. algebra) complexes, after restriction to 1-connected spaces up to rational equivalence. In more detail, we prove that the stabilization of spaces functor participates in a derived equivalence with certain coalgebra spectra (where the stabilization construction naturally lands), after restriction to 1-connected spaces up to weak equivalence. This resolves in the affirmative the infinite case, involving stabilization and suspension spectra, of a question/conjecture posed by Tyler Lawson on (iterated) suspension spaces almost ten years ago. A key ingredient of our proof, of independent interest, is a higher stabilization theorem for spaces that provides strong estimates for the uniform cartesian-ness of certain cubical diagrams associated to n-fold iterations of the spaces-level stabilization map; this is the stabilization analog of Dundas' higher Hurewicz theorem., Comment: 18 pages. We establish a higher Freudenthal suspension theorem and prove that the derived fundamental adjunction comparing spaces with coalgebra spaces over the homotopical iterated suspension-loop comonad, via iterated suspension, can be turned into an equivalence of homotopy theories by replacing spaces with the full subcategory of 1-connected spaces. This resolves in the affirmative a conjecture of Lawson on iterated suspension spaces; that homotopical descent for iterated suspension is satisfied on objects and morphisms---the corresponding iterated desuspension space can be built as the homotopy limit of a cosimplicial cobar construction encoding the homotopical coalgebraic structure. It also provides a homotopical recognition principle for iterated suspension spaces. Working in the Arone-Ching framework for homotopical descent, it follows that the Bousfield-Kan completion map with respect to integral homology is the unit of a derived adjunction. We prove that this derived adjunction, comparing spaces with coalgebra complexes over the associated integral homology comonad, via integral chains, can be turned into a derived equivalence by replacing spaces with the full subcategory of simply connected spaces. The Pluto system was recently explored by NASA's New Horizons spacecraft, making closest approach on 14 July 2015. Pluto's surface displays diverse landforms, terrain ages, albedos, colors, and composition gradients. Evidence is found for a water-ice crust, geologically young surface units, surface ice convection, wind streaks, volatile transport, and glacial flow. Pluto's atmosphere is highly extended, with trace hydrocarbons, a global haze layer, and a surface pressure near 10 microbars. Pluto's diverse surface geology and long-term activity raise fundamental questions about how small planets remain active many billions of years after formation. Pluto's large moon Charon displays tectonics and evidence for a heterogeneous crustal composition, its north pole displays puzzling dark terrain. In this communication, the current tests of gravitation available at Solar System scales are recalled. These tests rely mainly on two frameworks: the PPN framework and the search for a fifth force. Some motivations are given to look for deviations from General Relativity in other frameworks than the two extensively considered. A recent analysis of Cassini data in a MOND framework is presented. The MOdified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) is an attempt to modify the gravitation theory to solve the Dark Matter problem. This phenomenology is very successful at the galactic level. The main effect produced by MOND in the Solar System is called the External Field Effect parametrized by the parameter $Q_2$. We have used 9 years of Cassini range and Doppler measurements to constrain $Q_2$. Our estimate of this parameter based on Cassini data is given by $Q_2=(3 \pm 3)\times 10^{-27} \ \rm{s^{-2}}$ which shows no deviation from General Relativity and excludes a large part of the relativistic MOND theories. This limit can also be interpreted as a limit on a external tidal potential acting on the Solar System coming from the internal mass of our galaxy (including Dark Matter) or from a new hypothetical body., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, version accepted in Phys. The planetary ephemeris is an essential tool for interplanetary spacecraft navigation, studies of solar system dynamics (including, for example, barycenter corrections for pulsar timing ephemeredes), the prediction of occultations, and tests of general relativity. We are carrying out a series of astrometric VLBI observations of the Cassini spacecraft currently in orbit around Saturn, using the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA). These observations provide positions for the center of mass of Saturn in the International Celestial Reference Frame (ICRF) with accuracies ~0.3 milli-arcsecond (1.5 nrad), or about 2 km at the average distance of Saturn. This paper reports results from eight observing epochs between 2006 October and 2009 April. These data are combined with two VLBA observations by other investigators in 2004 and a Cassini-based gravitational deflection measurement by Fomalont et al. in 2009 to constrain a new ephemeris (DE 422). The DE 422 post-fit residuals for Saturn with respect to the VLBA data are generally 0.2 mas, but additional observations are needed to improve the positions of all of our phase reference sources to this level. Over time we expect to be able to improve the accuracy of all three coordinates in the Saturn ephemeris (latitude, longitude, and range) by a factor of at least three. This will represent a significant improvement not just in the Saturn ephemeris but also in the link between the inner and outer solar system ephemeredes and in the link to the inertial ICRF., Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astronomical Journal

Active asteroids are those that show evidence of ongoing mass loss. We report repeated instances of particle ejection from the surface of (101955) Bennu, demonstrating that it is an active asteroid. The ejection events were imaged by the OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security–Regolith Explorer) spacecraft. For the three largest observed events, we estimated the ejected particle velocities and sizes, event times, source regions, and energies. We also determined the trajectories and photometric properties of several gravitationally bound particles that orbited temporarily in the Bennu environment. We consider multiple hypotheses for the mechanisms that lead to particle ejection for the largest events, including rotational disruption, electrostatic lofting, ice sublimation, phyllosilicate dehydration, meteoroid impacts, thermal stress fracturing, and secondary impacts.

The current best estimates of Bennu’s gravity field will be presented, based on the independent solutions from four different teams involved on the OSIRIS-REx mission. The discovery of ejected particles about Bennu that may remain in orbit for several days or more provide a unique opportunity to probe the gravity field to higher degree and order than possible by using conventional spacecraft tracking. However, the non-gravitational forces acting on these particles must also be characterized, and their impact on solution accuracy must be assessed. This talk will present the latest results from the mission, incorporating spacecraft tracking from the lowest orbit in which the satellite will be during the mission.

Upon approach to asteroid 4 Vesta, the Dawn mission included a dedicated satellite search observation of the operational sphere of the spacecraft around Vesta. Discovery of moons of Vesta would constrain theories of satellite f()rmation. The sequence using the framing camera and clear filter includes three mosaics of six stations acquired on July 9-10. 2011. Each station consists of four sets with three different exposures, 1.5,20 and 270 s. We also processed and scanned the optical navigation sequences until Vesta filled the field of view. Analysis of images involves looking for moving objects in the mosaics and identifying catalogued stars, subtracting them from the image and examining residual objects for evidence of bodies in orbit around Vesta. Celestial coordinates were determined using Astrometry.net, an astrometry calibration service (http://astrometry.net/use.html). We processed the images by subtracting dark and bias fields and dividing by a Hatfield. Images were further filtered subtracting a box car filter (9x9 average) to remove effects of scattered light from Vesta itself. Images were scanned by eye for evidence of motion in directions different from the background stars. All objects were compared with Hubble Space Telescope's Guide Star Catalogue and US Naval Observatory's UCAC3 catalog. We report findings from these observations and analysis, including limits of magnitude, size and motion of objects in orbit around Vesta. This paper discusses our determination of the Saturn's pole orientation and precession using a combination of Earthbased and spacecraft based observational data. From our model of the polar motion and the observed precession rate we obtain a value for Saturn's polar moment of inertia

Previous searches for moons around Vesta have found nothing to an upper limit of 22.5 magnitude, that corresponds to 44 +/- 4 m diameter assuming the same albedo as Vesta. The Dawn mission's approach phase has dedicated satellite search observations consisting of two mosaic sequences bracketing the first observations of a complete rotation of Vesta scheduled for early July, 2011. In addition, we use the approach optical navigation image sequences for initial satellite searches. We will report any findings from these observations, and upper limits of magnitude and size.

After the forty-fifth flyby of Titan, the Cassini spacecraft has successfully completed the planned four-year prime mission tour of the Saturnian system. This paper reports on the orbit determination performance of the Cassini spacecraft over two years spanning 2006 - 2008. In this time span, Cassini's orbit progressed through the magnetotail and pi-transfer phases of the mission. Thirty-four accurate close encounters of Titan, one close flyby of Iapetus and one 50 km flyby of Enceladus were performed during this period. The Iapetus and Enceladus flybys were especially challenging and so the orbit determination supporting these encounters will be discussed in more detail. This paper will show that in most cases orbit determination has exceeded the navigation requirements for targeting flybys and predicting science instrument pointing during these encounters.

We have updated the orbits of the small inner Saturnian satellites using additional Cassini imaging observations through 2007 March. Statistically significant changes from previously published values appear in the eccentricities and inclinations of Pan and Daphnis, but only small changes have been found in the estimated orbits of the other satellites. We have also improved our knowledge of the masses of Janus and Epimetheus as a result of their close encounter observed in early 2006.

During the period spanning the second Enceladus flyby in July 2005 through the eleventh Titan encounter in January 2006, the Cassini spacecraft was successfully navigated through eight close-targeted satellite encounters. Three of these encounters included the 500 km flybys of the icy satellites Hyperion, Dione and Rhea and five targeted flybys of Saturn's largest moon, Titan. This paper will show how our refinements to Saturn's satellite ephemerides have improved orbit determination predictions. These refinements include the mass estimates of Saturn and its satellites by better than 0.5%. Also, it will be shown how this better orbit determination performance has helped to eliminate several statistical maneuvers that were scheduled to clean-up orbit determination and/or maneuver-execution errors.

The main VLBI technique that is used at JPL is known as the Delta Differential One-way Ranging ((Delta)DOR). Two DSN antennas simultaneously track a source, and alternate between sources. The signals recorded at the antennas from each source are correlated to obtain the delay in arrival to the two antennas, and the delays are differenced to remove common-source errors. An alternative technique is to use carrier phase differences between antennas. This is routinely done by the Very Large Baseline Array (VLBA) as part of source imaging. The VLBA capabilities are used for scientific research, but also have the potential to be used for navigation. Two main experiments were performed with the VLBA and JPL spacecraft. This paper describes and analyzes these experiments and discusses the possible uses of VLBA tracking for spacecraft navigation.

On April 16, 2005, the Cassini spacecraft performed its lowest altitude flyby of Titan to date, the Titan-5 flyby, flying 1027 km above the surface of Titan. This document discusses the development of a Titan atmospheric drag model for the purpose of the orbit determination of Cassini. Results will be presented for the Titan A flyby, the Titan-5 flyby as well as the most recent low altitude Titan flyby, Titan-7. Different solutions will be compared against OD performance in terms of the flyby B-plane parameters, spacecraft thrusting activity and drag estimates. These low altitude Titan flybys were an excellent opportunity to observe the effect of Titan's atmospheric drag on the orbit determination solution and results show that the drag was successfully modeled to provide accurate flyby solutions.

From June 2004 through July 2005, the Cassini/Huygens spacecraft has executed nine successful close-targeted encounters by three major satellites of the Saturnian system. Current results show that orbit determination has met design requirements for targeting encounters, Hugens descent, and predicting science instrument pointing for targetd satellite encounters. This paper compares actual target dispersion against, the predicte tour covariance analyses.
