Abstract

The study examines the mineral content of table salts used by households in villages adjacent to the production areas. A total of 210 samples from commercial and local salts were collected, and analyzed using iodometry titration, spectrophotometry, colorimetry, and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) techniques, followed by a household interview for salt type preference. The lowest detectable concentration LOD, lowest quantifiable concentration LOQ and, recovery of methods ranged (0.32–2.155 μg/kg), (0.117–6.387 μg/kg) and, (94.2–103.6 %), respectively. Abstract

The Rohde--Schramm theorem states that Schramm--Loewner Evolution with parameter $\kappa$ (or SLE$_\kappa$ for short) exists as a random curve, almost surely, if $\kappa \neq 8$. Here we give a new and concise proof of the result, based on the Liouville quantum gravity coupling (or reverse coupling) with a Gaussian free field. This transforms the problem of estimating the derivative of the Loewner flow into estimating certain correlated Gaussian free fields. While the correlation between these fields is not easy to understand, a surprisingly simple argument allows us to recover a derivative exponent first obtained by Rohde and Schramm, subsequently shown to be optimal by Lawler and Viklund, which then implies the Rohde--Schramm theorem., Comment: 17 pages. v2: minor mistake corrected, some references added

Abstract

Significant attention has been given to the algorithmic management models that provide leadership to the global workforce that drives the gig economy (Aneesh, 2009; Danaher, 2016; Rosenblat & Stark, 2016). As the pitfalls of algocratic management are studied (Jabagi et al., 2019), limited consideration is given to strategies aimed at addressing the observed challenges of algorithm-based management. This article considers the findings of empirical studies that examine governance by data (Jabagi et al., 2019; Johns, 2021), while proposing a hybrid model of human-algorithmic management, where human intervention is introduced at key points in the algorithm to address algorithmic management's growing deficiencies. Just as Baum's (2018) Tin Man in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was aware that not having a heart created significant limitations, so too must organizations that profit from algorithmic management. Abstract

We propose to model the fixation locations of the human eye when observing a still image by a Markovian point process in R 2 . Our approach is data driven using k-means clustering of the fixation locations to identify distinct salient regions of the image, which in turn correspond to the states of our Markov chain. Bayes factors are computed as model selection criterion to determine the number of clusters. 6. Liouville Brownian Motion and Thick Points of the Gaussian Free Field

Abstract

We find a lower bound for the Hausdorff dimension that a Liouville Brownian motion spends in $\alpha$-thick points of the Gaussian Free Field, where $\alpha$ is not necessarily equal to the parameter used in the construction of the geometry. This completes a conjecture in \cite{berestycki2013diffusion}, where the corresponding upper bound was shown. In the course of the proof, we obtain estimates on the (Euclidean) diffusivity exponent, which depends strongly on the nature of the starting point. For a Liouville typical point, it is $1/(2 - \frac{\gamma^2}{2})$. In particular, for $\gamma > \sqrt{2}$, the path is Lebesgue-almost everywhere differentiable, almost surely. 7. Exploring random geometry with the Gaussian free field

Abstract

This thesis studies the geometry of objects from 2-dimensional statistical physics in the continuum. Chapter 1 is an introduction to Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLE). SLEs are the canonical family of non-self-intersecting, conformally invariant random curves with a domain-Markov property. The family is indexed by a parameter, usually denoted by κ, which controls the regularity of the curve. We give the definition of the SLEκ process, and summarise the proofs of some of its properties. We give particular attention to the Rohde-Schramm theorem which, in broad terms, tells us that an SLEκ is a curve. In Chapter 2 we introduce the Gaussian free field (GFF), a conformally invariant random surface with a domain-Markov property. We explain how to couple the GFF and an SLEκ process, in particular how a GFF can be unzipped along a reverse SLEκ to produce another GFF. We also look at how the GFF is used to define Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) surfaces, and how thick points of the GFF relate to the quantum gravity measure. Chapter 3 introduces a diffusion on LQG surfaces, the Liouville Brownian motion (LBM). The main goal of the chapter is to complete an estimate given by N. Berestycki, which gives an upper bound for the Hausdor dimension of times that a γ-LBM spends in α-thick points for γ, α ∈ [0, 2). We prove the corresponding, tight, lower bound. In Chapter 4 we give a new proof of the Rohde-Schramm theorem (which tells us that an SLEκ is a curve), which is valid for all values of κ except κ = 8. Our proof uses the coupling of the reverse SLEκ with the free boundary GFF to bound the derivative of the inverse of the Loewner flow close to the origin. Our knowledge of the structure of the GFF lets us find bounds which are tight enough to ensure continuity of the SLEκ trace.

12. The Word Made Digital: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Increase Bible Engagement

Abstract

The purpose of this descriptive study was to understand whether a relationship exists between an individual's behavioral intention to use a Bible-based chatbot that leverages AI to create human-like engagement with Scripture and the constructs of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, perceived enjoyment, and perceived risk, controlling for gender, age, and experience among registered users of the Inductive Bible Study App. Data was collected through an online survey and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), multi-group analysis (MGA), and homogeneity-of-slopes analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). While this quantitative descriptive study validated the correlation between each of the four reflective constructs and the formative construct (behavioral intent), the data suggests that perceived enjoyment maintains the strongest link to behavioral intent. In addition, the moderators appear to indicate that the strongest correlation to behavioral intent is found in communities of younger males with no prior exposure to chatbots. The results of this study provide useful insights into how individuals perceive and make decisions about using technology for religious or spiritual purposes, and how these perceptions may differ based on demographic factors. Additionally, the results inform the development and implementation of similar AI-based tools in religious or spiritual contexts and provide insights into how leaders in these contexts can effectively utilize technology to engage with their communities.

Abstract

To make more valuable to the people those things from which the people are accustomed to derive value has been appropriately been said to be the prime business of legislators. That the schoolhouse, whose value to the people is already great, may become still more valuable to them, is the purpose of the community-organization movement which the Bureau of Education has undertaken to foster. Every school district should be a little democracy, and the schoolhouse should be the community capitol. Here the people should meet to discuss among themselves their common interests and to devise methods of helpful cooperation. It should also be the social center of the community, where all the people come together in a neighborly way on terms of democratic equality, learn to know each other, and extend and enrich their community sympathies.
