This paper addresses the joint operation of wind plants with energy storage systemsin multiple markets to increase the value of wind energy from an economic and technical point of view. The development of an optimized energy management allows scheduling the wind generation in energymarkets, as well as contributing to the system stability through the joint participation in frequency ancillary services. The market optimization maximizes market revenuesconsidering overallstoragecosts, while avoidingenergy imbalancesand market penalties. Moreover, wind power fluctuations, forecast errors and real-time reserverequirementsare controlledby the energy storagesystem and managed afterward through the participation in continuous intraday market. Furthermore, model predictive control approach enables a high compliance of reserve requirementsand a hugereduction of energy imbalancesin real-time operation. Different energy storagecapacities are selected in order to evaluate theircost-effectiveness enhancing the wind plant operation underthe considered study case.

Renewable power plants must comply with certain codes and requirements to be connected to the grid, being the ramp-rate compliance one of the most challenging requirements, especially for photovoltaic or wind energy generation plants. Battery-based energy storage systems represent a promising solution due to the fast dynamics of electrochemical storage systems, besides their scalability and flexibility. However, large-scale battery energy storage systems are still too expensive to be a mass market solution for the renewable energy resources integration. Thus, in order to make battery investment economically viable, the use of second life batteries is investigated in the paper. This paper proposes a method to determine the optimal sizing of a second life battery energy storage system (SLBESS). SLBESS performance is also validated and, as an ultimate step, the power exchanged with the batteries is calculated during one-year operation. The power profile obtained is further used to define the cycling patterns for laboratory testing of second life batteries and to study their ageing evolution when used for the power smoothing renewable integration application. Connecting renewable power plants to the grid must comply with certain codes and requirements. One requirement is the ramp rate constraint, which must be fulfilled in order to avoid penalties. As this service becomes compulsory with an increased grid penetration of renewable, all possible solutions must be explored especially that large battery energy storage systems are still expensive solutions. Thus, in order to make battery investment economic viable, the use of second life batteries is investigated in the present work. This paper proposes a method for determining firstly, the optimal rating of a second life battery energy storage system (SLBESS) and secondly, to obtain the power exchange and battery state of charge profiles during the operation. These will constitute the cycling patterns for testing batteries and studying the ageing effect of this specific application. El fomento de la cultura emprendedora es un tema prioritario en la actual agenda de las políticas públicas de educación superior. El presente artículo analiza la experiencia del proyecto GAZE de fomento de la cultura emprendedora en el estudiantado de educación superior. El proyecto GAZE está basado en la gobernanza donde los usuarios finales de un programa de política pública orientado hacia el emprendimiento participan de su diseño. El artículo ofrece resultados empíricos de talleres de emprendimiento realizados con los estudiantes y un conjunto de recomendaciones de política pública elaboradas por el propio estudiantado.

Con la emergencia de la llamada sociedad del conocimiento, a lo largo de las últimas décadas, las relaciones entre Ciencia, Tecnología, Sociedad e Innovación han sufrido una profunda transformación. Estas relaciones se organizan en un nuevo paradigma tecnoeconómico, cuyo principal eje articulador, productivo y organizacional, es el conocimiento científico y tecnológico, como fuerza estratégica de la competitividad, el crecimiento económico, y el desarrollo nacional y local.Todos estos cambios son los que se recogen bajo el concepto de sistemas regionales de innovación que, junto con otros complementarios, sirven de marco teórico y metodológico a esta investigación. Physicalism claims that colors are physical properties of physical objects. For more than three centuries this philosophical stand has been denied because it was considered not to be “scientifically serious”. In this article we offer a critical review of the history of this accusation to conclude that the apparent incompatibility between the best science and physicalism must be, at least, re-examined., El “fisicalismo acerca de los colores” considera que los colores son propiedades físicas de los objetos. Durante más de tres siglos esa posición filosófica ha estado bloqueada por considerarse que no era científicamente seria. En este artículo se hace una lectura crítica de la vigencia de esa grave acusación para concluir que la supuesta incompatibilidad entre la mejor ciencia y el fisicalismo debe ser, cuanto menos, revisada.
