Abstract H2O transforms to two forms of superionic (SI) ice at high pressures and temperatures, which contain highly mobile protons within a solid oxygen sublattice. Yet the stability field of both phases remains debated. Here, we present the results of an ultrafast X-ray heating study utilizing MHz pulse trains produced by the European X-ray Free Electron Laser to create high temperature states of H2O, which were probed using X-ray diffraction during dynamic cooling. We confirm an isostructural transition during heating in the 26-69 GPa range, consistent with the formation of SI-bcc. In contrast to prior work, SI-fcc was observed exclusively above ~50 GPa, despite evidence of melting at lower pressures. The absence of SI-fcc in lower pressure runs is attributed to short heating timescales and the pressure-temperature path induced by the pump-probe heating scheme in which H2O was heated above its melting temperature before the observation of quenched crystalline states, based on the earlier theoretical prediction that SI-bcc nucleates more readily from the fluid than SI-fcc. Our results may have implications for the stability of SI phases in ice-rich planets, for example during dynamic freezing, where the preferential crystallization of SI-bcc may result in distinct physical properties across mantle ice layers.

Abstract Background Deprescribing has been defined as the planned process of reducing or stopping medications that may no longer be beneficial or are causing harm, with the goal of reducing medication burden while improving patient quality of life. At present, little is known about the specific challenges of decision-making to support deprescribing for patients who are accessing palliative care. By exploring the perspectives of healthcare professionals, this qualitative study aimed to address this gap, and explore the challenges of, and potential solutions to, making decisions about deprescribing in a palliative care context. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with healthcare professionals in-person or via video call, between August 2022 – January 2023. Perspectives on approaches to deprescribing in palliative care; when and how they might deprescribe; and the role of carers and family members within this process were discussed. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Reflexive thematic analysis enabled the development of themes. QSR NVivo (Version 12) facilitated data management. Ethical approval was obtained from the NHS Health Research Authority (ref 305394). Results Twenty healthcare professionals were interviewed, including: medical consultants, nurses, specialist pharmacists, and general practitioners (GPs). Participants described the importance of deprescribing decision-making, and that it should be a considered, proactive, and planned process. Three themes were developed from the data, which centred on: (1) professional attitudes, competency and responsibility towards deprescribing; (2) changing the culture of deprescribing; and (3) involving the patient and family/caregivers in deprescribing decision-making. Conclusions This study sought to explore the perspectives of healthcare professionals with responsibility for making deprescribing decisions with people accessing palliative care services. A range of healthcare professionals identified the importance of supporting decision-making in deprescribing, so it becomes a proactive process within a patient’s care journey, rather than a reactive consequence. Future work should explore how healthcare professionals, patients and their family can be supported in the shared decision-making processes of deprescribing. Trial registration Ethical approval was obtained from the NHS Health Research Authority (ref 305394).

Curriculum mapping is the process of creating a visual representation of the teaching and assessment of learning outcomes in a degree, program or major. Best practice recommendations about curriculum mapping typically focus on mapping individual programs. Therefore, many recommendations, such as meeting individually with faculty as they map their course, may not be feasible for large-scale mapping projects. This paper describes the process of a large-scale curriculum mapping project designed to map the Bachelor of Science degree and 24 of its associated majors. The project involved the participation of faculty from three colleges within a research-intensive University to map over 400 courses. We describe the key questions and decisions involved in carrying out the mapping project, our data collection and analysis process, and our dissemination efforts to ensure that the mapping results were used to inform curricular change.

Introduction Mental health concerns are prevalent among adult patients with long COVID (LC), but the current state of knowledge regarding mental health in the context of LC is not fully understood. The objective of this scoping review is to map and summarise the existing research on mental health conditions among LC patients and highlight the knowledge gaps. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the evolving landscape of research in the area.Methods and analysis The concept of interest is mental health in adult LC patients. This scoping review will be guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis and reported according to the recommendations in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Review guidelines. Using predefined search parameters, a comprehensive search of two electronic databases (Medline and APA PsycINFO) and grey literature sources identified 3104 potentially eligible articles published from 1 January 2020 to 4 April 2024. Following the removal of duplicates, 2767 articles were imported for screening in Covidence. The study selection process involves screening titles, abstracts and full text of potentially relevant articles, which will then be analysed using thematic analysis. Data will be extracted using a predefined extraction form.Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval is not required because this study does not involve human participants or primary data collection. The findings from this review will be disseminated through a peer-reviewed publication, conference presentations and professional networks. In addition, a summary of the results will be shared with patient partners and other relevant stakeholders.Public health implications The findings from this scoping review will contribute to a better understanding of mental health issues arising in LC patients and inform future research directions and public health interventions in this area.

Studies have examined the effects of school disciplinary policies and practices on Black boys. Much of this research highlights the degree to which many of these disciplinary policies and practices have affected Black boys in P-12 contexts in negative ways. A small and emerging body of scholarship has begun to investigate the effects of school discipline policies and practices in P12 contexts on Black girls. The focus of this study was to investigate the effects of disciplinary policies on Black girls in comparison to girls from other races in the 15 largest school districts in Ohio. Drawing from recent out-of-school suspension data from the Office for Civil Rights Data Collection, we examined the degree to which Black girls were suspended out of school in the 15 largest school districts in Ohio. More specifically, out-of-school suspension rates (1 or more suspensions combined) for Black girls in relation to the suspension rates of girls from other racial backgrounds was analyzed. Findings indicated that Black girls were suspended at disproportionately higher rates in the majority of the districts in this study. Recommendations for practice are discussed.

UNLABELLED: NeuVax is a vaccine comprised of the HER2-derived MHC class I peptide E75 (nelipepimut-S, NPS) combined with GM-CSF. We completed a randomized trial of preoperative vaccination with NeuVax versus GM-CSF alone in patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). The primary objective was to evaluate for NPS-specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses. Patients with human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A2-positive DCIS were enrolled and randomized 2:1 to NeuVax versus GM-CSF alone and received two inoculations prior to surgery. The number of NPS-specific CTL was measured pre-vaccination, at surgery, and 1 and 3 to 6 months post-operation by dextramer assay. Differences in CTL responses between groups and between pre-vaccination and 1-month post-operation were analyzed using a two-sample t test or Wilcoxon rank sum test. The incidence and severity of adverse events were compared between groups. Overall, 45 patients were registered; 20 patients were HLA-A2 negative, 7 declined participation, 1 withdrew, and 4 failed screening for other reasons. The remaining 13 were randomized to NeuVax (n = 9) or GM-CSF alone (n = 4). Vaccination was well-tolerated with similar treatment-related toxicity between groups with the majority (>89%) of adverse events being grade 1. The percentage of NPS-specific CTLs increased in both arms between baseline (pre-vaccination) and 1-month post-operation. The increase was numerically greater in the NPS+GM-CSF arm, but the difference was not statistically significant. NPS+GM-CSF is safe and well-tolerated when given preoperatively to patients with DCIS. In patients with HLA-A2-positive DCIS, two inoculations with NPS+GM-CSF can induce in vivo immunity and a continued antigen-specific T-cell response 1-month postsurgery. PREVENTION RELEVANCE: This trial showed that vaccination of patients with HLA-A2-positive DCIS with NeuVax in the preoperative setting can induce a sustained antigen-specific T-cell response. This provides proof of principle that vaccination in the preoperative or adjuvant setting may stimulate an adaptive immune response that could potentially prevent disease recurrence.

Service reservoirs (SRs) are a critical component of drinking water distribution systems that impact water quality. There are no performance measures to quantify or understand this impact. By applying the concept of sink or source behaviour to describe the processes of material accumulation and mobilisation within SRs, this research develops a practical metric to facilitate assessment and quantification of SR performance. It is demonstrated how a few weeks of continuous data from instrumentation deployment at both inlet and outlet of SRs is sufficient to reveal valuable insight into SR and network performance. Through real-world applications, we provide evidence that the metric was able to track SR performance showing both beneficial and detrimental impacts on water quality, as well as quantifying seasonality and the benefits of SR cleaning. Such insight is invaluable for proactive, justifiable, and targeted decisions on the location and frequency of maintenance and management interventions. Non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis is a long-term lung disease characterised by abnormal dilatation of the bronchi, with patients experiencing chronic productive cough and recurrent exacerbations. Currently, there are no licensed drugs for use in bronchiectasis while clinical trials have been conducted to either test new drugs or repurpose existing ones. These drugs target the underlying pathophysiology of bronchiectasis which is known to include infection, inflammation, mucus hypersecretion and retention. Most of the drugs used in daily clinical practice for bronchiectasis are off-label with no randomised trials exploring their safety. This review aims at exploring the safety profile of drugs frequently used in clinical practice to manage bronchiectasis, including antibiotics (e.g. macrolides, aminoglycosides, polymyxins, fluoroquinolones, aztreonam), mucoactive therapy (e.g. hypertonic saline, mannitol, DNase and carbocisteine), anti-inflammatory therapy (inhaled corticosteroids) and drugs currently in development for use in bronchiectasis (e.g. brensocatib, benralizumab and itepekimab).

Deriving insight from the increasing volume of water quality time series data from drinking water distribution systems is complex and is usually situation- and individual-specific. This research used crowd-sourcing exercises involving groups of domain experts to identify features of interest within turbidity time series data from operational systems. The resulting labels provide insight and a novel benchmark against which algorithmic approaches to mimic the human interpretation could be evaluated. Reflection of the results of the labelling exercises resulted in the proposal of a turbidity event scale consisting of advisory 4 NTU levels to inform utility response. The idea that comprehenders predict upcoming linguistic content has become core to many theories of language processing. Experimental studies exploiting morphosyntactic and phonotactic constraints on a word form preceding a high cloze target word have been key to underpinning predictive accounts of comprehension, but investigating these tight sequential contrasts with traditional behavioral methods is difficult. The maze task, with its more focal measure of incremental processing, may provide a cheap and easy methodology to study early cues to prediction. An experiment investigating the a/an contrast (DeLong, Urbach, & Kutas, 2005; Nieuwland, et al., 2018) using A-maze (Boyce, Futrell, & Levy, 2020) finds that unexpected articles, as well as nouns, elicit slower focal response times. Response times are also shown to be inversely related to noun cloze probabilities, with slower responders showing larger effects of expectation. This study demonstrates that the maze task can be sensitive to expectation and is a useful alternative methodology for investigating prediction in comprehension.

This article explores the role that gestures play in the development of mathematical understanding. Using Pirie Kieren's (1994) notion of image making and Lunney Borden's (2011) idea of verbing mathematics, we share two examples of how students respond to teacher requests to demonstrate what they know about arrays.

Much has been written about the ways in which Black boys are often underserved in literacy classroom in the United States. Relatively little has been documented about the literacy strategies that are yielding promising outcomes in this study group. The purpose of this integrated literature review is to identify what we call promising literacy instructional practices with Black boys across the P-12 educational spectrum. Through an analysis of 62 publications, we outline a host of different instructional practices that have yielded positive outcomes with Black boys. Recommendations for teachers and future research studies are provided.

This article explores the complex relationship between researcher and respondent through shared experience and interaction in the interview processes. Ethical considerations related to the balance of power and potential for change in respondents' professional actions and decisions post-interview are discussed whilst problematizing the concept of truly informed consent. Informed by critical incident analysis, the article draws on the researcher's experience of undertaking a qualitative-based study founded in the principles of phenomenological hermeneutics. Concluded in 2016, the research investigates the impact of pedagogical training programs on respondents' teaching practice and engagement with professional learning. Respondents, experienced lecturers working in the adult education sectors in Scotland and Wales, contacted the researcher to share their post-interview experiences. The research was not designed to elicit change in respondents, nor influence professional choice or practice. However, each communication received attributed participating in the research as the source for renewed interest and engagement in professional learning. Although research interviews becoming an enriching experience for respondents is a recorded phenomenon the ascribed effects were profound, potentially life-changing, and not fully anticipated. Ethical considerations for researchers designing and undertaking interview-based research are considered alongside the potential for engagement in research interviews as a catalyst for professional learning in practice.

Contemporary activists and scholars have framed how Black males are faced with constant policing and killing of Black bodies by White police officers (Coates, 2015) and how Black boys are being sent to punishment rooms in urban schools (Ferguson, 2000). Therefore it is not surprising that teaching in our politically and racially charged times can be daunting for both a White male teacher and Black boys in an urban school. Unnerving statistics about Black students reveal they are performing behind their White peers. Blacks are more likely to be expelled from school, and they are twice as likely to drop out of school as their White counterparts (Aud et al., 2010). However, there are teachers who are applying culturally relevant teaching (CRT) and who are mindful of students' funds of knowledge and cultural backgrounds. Because the majority of teachers are White, there have been calls for a study in which a White teacher used CRT to develop and focus on relationships with Black students to strengthen instruction. Data sources for this study included: (1) observations of classroom literacy instruction; (2) informal interviews with the focal teacher; and (3) 200 artifacts of pictures and copies of student work and instructional materials. The findings reveal that teacher-student relationships are pivotal in students' academic learning. Although the analysis is limited to a small case study of one classroom, the relationships presented should encourage mainstream White teachers who are outsiders to minority students' cultures to implement CRT.

Abstract Introduction Cultural competence is an important attribute underpinning interactions between healthcare professionals, such as pharmacists, and patients from ethnic minority communities. Health‐ and medicines‐related inequalities affecting people from underrepresented ethnic groups, such as poorer access to healthcare services and poorer overall treatment outcomes in comparison to their White counterparts, have been widely discussed in the literature. Community pharmacies are the first port of call for healthcare services accessed by diverse patient populations; yet, limited research exists which explores the perceptions of culturally competent care within the profession, or the delivery of cultural competence training to community pharmacy staff. This research seeks to gather perspectives of community pharmacy teams relating to cultural competence and identify possible approaches for the adoption of cultural competence training. Methods Semistructured interviews were conducted in‐person, over the telephone or via video call, between October and December 2022. Perspectives on cultural competence and training were discussed. Interviews were audio‐recorded and transcribed verbatim. The reflexive thematic analysis enabled the development of themes. QSR NVivo (Version 12) facilitated data management. Ethical approval was obtained from the Newcastle University Ethics Committee (reference: 25680/2022). Results Fourteen participants working in community pharmacies were interviewed, including eight qualified pharmacists, one foundation trainee pharmacist, three pharmacy technicians/dispensers and two counter assistants. Three themes were developed from the data which centred on (1) defining and appreciating cultural competency within pharmacy services; (2) identifying pharmacies as ‘cultural hubs’ for members of the diverse, local community and (3) delivering cultural competence training for the pharmacy profession. Conclusion The results of this study offer new insights and suggestions on the delivery of cultural competence training to community pharmacy staff, students and trainees entering the profession. Collaborative co‐design approaches between patients and pharmacy staff could enable improved design, implementation and delivery of culturally competent pharmacy services. Patient or Public Contribution The Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement group at Newcastle University had input in the study design and conceptualisation. Two patient champions inputted to ensure that the study was conducted, and the findings were reported, with cultural sensitivity.

In a two-year field study across 58 isolated wetlands in Texas (USA), we examined whether odonate (Insecta: Odonata) assemblages were structured by local environmental filters or instead simply reflected the use of any available water in this semi-arid region. Cluster analysis resolved three wetland groupings based on environmental characteristics (hydroperiod, water chemistry, vegetation); 37 odonate species were detected at these wetlands. The most speciose assemblages occurred at wetlands with longer hydroperiods; these sites also had the most species found at no other wetland type. Ordination plots indicated some filtering with respect to the hydroperiod, but there was only mixed or weak support with respect to other local factors. Because water persistence was the strongest driver maintaining odonate diversity in this region, regardless of water quality or vegetation, beggars cannot be choosers in this system and conservation efforts can focus on water maintenance or supplementation.

Societal Impact Statement Given the rapidly increasing drought and temperature stresses associated with climate change, innovative approaches for food security are imperative. One understudied opportunity is using feral crops—plants that have escaped and persisted without cultivation—as a source of genetic diversity, which could build resilience in domesticated conspecifics. In some cases, however, feral plants vigorously compete with crops as weeds, challenging food security. By bridging historically siloed ecological, agronomic, and evolutionary lines of inquiry into feral crops, there is the opportunity to improve food security and understand this relatively understudied anthropogenic phenomenon. Summary The phenomenon of feral crops, that is, free‐living populations that have established outside cultivation, is understudied. Some researchers focus on the negative consequences of domestication, whereas others assert that feral populations may serve as useful pools of genetic diversity for future crop improvement. Although research on feral crops and the process of feralization has advanced rapidly in the last two decades, generalizable insights have been limited by a lack of comparative research across crop species and other factors. To improve international coordination of research on this topic, we summarize the current state of feralization research and chart a course for future study by consolidating outstanding questions in the field. These questions, which emerged from the colloquium “Darwins' reversals: What we now know about Feralization and Crop Wild Relatives” at the BOTANY 2021 conference, fall into seven categories that span both basic and applied research: (1) definitions and drivers of ferality, (2) genetic architecture and pathway, (3) evolutionary history and biogeography, (4) agronomy and breeding, (5) fundamental and applied ecology, (6) collecting and conservation, and (7) taxonomy and best practices. These questions serve as a basis for ferality researchers to coordinate research in these areas, potentially resulting in major contributions to food security in the face of climate change.

An experimental platform for dynamic diamond anvil cell (dDAC) research has been developed at the High Energy Density (HED) Instrument at the European X-ray Free Electron Laser (European XFEL). Advantage was taken of the high repetition rate of the European XFEL (up to 4.5 MHz) to collect pulse-resolved MHz X-ray diffraction data from samples as they are dynamically compressed at intermediate strain rates (≤103 s−1), where up to 352 diffraction images can be collected from a single pulse train. The set-up employs piezo-driven dDACs capable of compressing samples in ≥340 µs, compatible with the maximum length of the pulse train (550 µs). Results from rapid compression experiments on a wide range of sample systems with different X-ray scattering powers are presented. A maximum compression rate of 87 TPa s−1 was observed during the fast compression of Au, while a strain rate of ∼1100 s−1 was achieved during the rapid compression of N2 at 23 TPa s−1.

Abstract Aims This review aims to identify the evidence base for the consequences of over and undertreatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a frail population. Method In this systematic review, we searched MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, CINAHL and the Cochrane Library for studies from January 2001 to 15th August 2022. We included a variety of study types that assessed and reported frailty including patients ≥18 years old. Studies included those that reported the prevalence of over or undertreatment of diabetes mellitus in a frail population and those examining outcomes related to glucose control in frail older people living with diabetes. Data were extracted using a bespoke extraction table using a narrative synthesis approach. Results A total of 4114 articles were identified with 112 meeting inclusion criteria. These included 15,130 participants across the 11 studies with sample sizes ranging from 101 to 11,140. Several areas were identified in the included studies where under or overtreatment of diabetes impacted outcomes for patients. These included hospital admissions, readmissions, length of stay, falls, mortality, cognitive impairment and cardiovascular disease outcomes. Conclusion The results showed that there was a high heterogeneity of outcomes between the studies and that many examined small numbers of participants. In this review, both over and undertreatment were shown to increase adverse outcomes in frail older people. Further research around optimal glycaemic control for frail older people living with diabetes is required with the aim to identify ideal target ranges and produce practical clinical guidelines to promote attainment of these.

Abstract Introduction Undertaking physical activity, pre‐ and post‐operatively, can benefit recovery time and improve post‐surgical outcomes. One cohort of patients that have reported these benefits are those undergoing surgery for breast cancer. Yet, what remains unclear is the level to which physical activity interventions are implemented into standard surgical care for patients with breast cancer. Aims This systematic review aimed to examine existing qualitative evidence focusing on pre‐ and post‐operative physical activity interventions to better understand the benefits and shortcomings of physical activity within the surgical journey. Methods A systematic literature search was undertaken in November 2022, across five databases: MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, CINAHL, and Scopus. Qualitative studies involving people with breast cancer who had undertaken a physical activity intervention, either pre‐ and/or post‐operatively, were included for analysis. The review was registered on PROSPERO: CRD42022372466 and performed according to PRISMA guidelines. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme qualitative study checklist was used to assess study quality. Results Fourteen studies were included, comprising the perspectives of 418 people receiving surgery for breast cancer. One study implemented preoperative physical activity interventions; the remaining studies focused on post‐operative interventions. A narrative systematic review was undertaken due to heterogeneity in reported results. Four themes were developed by thematic analysis, centring on: (1) factors promoting engagement with physical activity interventions; (2) factors preventing engagement with physical activity interventions; (3) the impact of pre‐ and post‐operative interventions on physical and psychological health; and (4) participant recommendations for pre‐ and post‐operative interventions. Conclusion Pre‐ and post‐operative physical activity interventions were well‐accepted. Patients recognised factors which promoted or prevented engagement with interventions, as well as pre‐ and post‐operative physical and psychological benefits that arose as a result. Evidence based co‐design studies may further inform successful implementation of prescribed physical activity into standard care for surgical breast cancer patients.

It is qualitatively well known that kinetics related to nucleation and growth can shift apparent phase boundaries from their equilibrium value. In this work, we have measured this effect in Bi using time-resolved X-ray diffraction with unprecedented 0.25 ms time resolution, accurately determining phase transition pressures at compression rates spanning five orders of magnitude (10-2-103 GPa/s) using the dynamic diamond anvil cell. An over-pressurization of the Bi-III/Bi-V phase boundary is observed at fast compression rates for different sample types and stress states, and the largest over-pressurization that is observed is ΔP = 2.5 GPa. The work presented here paves the way for future studies of transition kinetics at previously inaccessible compression rates.

The high-precision X-ray diffraction setup for work with diamond anvil cells (DACs) in interaction chamber 2 (IC2) of the High Energy Density instrument of the European X-ray Free-Electron Laser is described. This includes beamline optics, sample positioning and detector systems located in the multipurpose vacuum chamber. Concepts for pump-probe X-ray diffraction experiments in the DAC are described and their implementation demonstrated during the First User Community Assisted Commissioning experiment. X-ray heating and diffraction of Bi under pressure, obtained using 20 fs X-ray pulses at 17.8 keV and 2.2 MHz repetition, is illustrated through splitting of diffraction peaks, and interpreted employing finite element modeling of the sample chamber in the DAC.

Abstract Litz wires operating in a cryogenic environment can potentially improve both the efficiency and power density of electrical machines and passive components. However, due to the low resistivity and high magnetic fields, eddy‐current losses may become significant in cryogenically cooled windings, especially in airgap winding arrangements or in the case of significant slot leakage fields, unless the litz wire parameters are carefully chosen. A framework for litz wire loss performance optimization and experimental characterisation at cryogenic temperatures is provided. An optimum operating temperature for minimum loss is derived based on analytical expressions, which highlights the role of litz wire parameters, current density and external field. The proximity loss model, used to calculate the optimum operating temperature, is validated experimentally. Two test rigs with different magnetic cores were designed and built. Copper and aluminium litz wires with a strand diameter down to 0.1 mm were tested in a liquid nitrogen bath with a uniform harmonic external magnetic field up to 0.5 T peak and a frequency up to 1 kHz. Measurements show good agreement with the theoretical results and confirm that the proposed model can be confidently used during the preliminary design of cryogenic windings.

Understanding language requires comprehenders to understand not only what speakers say, but what speakers might imply. Scalar items (e.g. some, numerals) often invite comprehenders to compute scalar implicatures, pragmatically strengthening the semantic meaning of scalar items by negating their stronger alternatives. Recent priming evidence suggests that scalar implicatures may share underlying mechanisms, priming both within and between implicature types. We report two experiments designed to extend these finding to or, which has an inclusive meaning that can be strengthened to an exclusive meaning, potentially via scalar implicature. Experiment 1 investigated or alongside some and numerals, holding the number of visual symbols constant. Experiment 2 reduced the visual complexity of Experiment 1. Both experiments found robust within-category priming, but failed to fully replicate or extend between-category priming effects. We discuss implications of these results with respect to visual manipulations and the potential fragility of priming across different categories of scalar implicature.

This study explores peer feedback in a combined fifth and sixth-grade classroom. Drawing on Hattie and Timperley's (2007) model for feedback, we analyzed 334 peer feedback comments gathered during six mathematics lessons. Our analysis revealed evidence of peer feedback being beneficial to the students who provide it as well as those who receive it. Specifically, we share examples of how peer feedback can support opportunities for providers of feedback to: (1) self-regulate by choosing mathematics strategies; (2) make connections between their own mathematical ideas and those of their peers; and (3) engage in ongoing back-and-forth conversations. Findings from our study point to recommendations for teachers to be more purposeful in their prompts to students about the types of feedback they might provide one another.

Objective: Despite recognized benefits, engagement in Advance Care Planning (ACP) remains low. Research into peer-facilitated, group ACP interventions is limited. This study investigated the acceptability of community-led peer-facilitated ACP workshops for the public and whether these workshops are associated with increased knowledge, motivation and engagement in ACP behaviors. Methods: Peer-facilitators from 9 community organizations were recruited and trained to deliver free ACP workshops to members of the public with an emphasis on conversation. Using a cohort design, workshop acceptability and engagement in ACP behaviors was assessed by surveying public participants at the end of the workshop and 4–6 weeks later. Results: 217 participants returned post-workshop questionnaires, and 69 returned follow-up questionnaires. Over 90% of participants felt they gained knowledge across all 6 learning goals. Every ACP behavior saw a statistically significant increase in participant completion after 4–6 weeks. Almost all participants were glad they attended (94%) and would recommend the workshop to others (95%). Conclusion: This study revealed an association of peer-facilitated ACP workshops and completion of ACP behaviors in public participants. Innovation: This innovative approach supports investment in the spread of community-based, peer-facilitated ACP workshops for the public as important ACP promotion strategies.

Objective: Poor therapeutic adherence and the contributing factors have been extensively researched in several chronic diseases, including COPD. However, the influence of ethnicity on adherence to nonsurgical treatment interventions for COPD (e.g. smoking cessation and pulmonary rehabilitation) is not well understood. This scoping review was performed to better understand variations in adherence among people from minority ethnic communities diagnosed with COPD. Method: This scoping review was designed based on the refined frameworks of Arksey and O'Malley, developed by JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute). Systematic searches were performed across three databases: CINHAL (EBSCO), MEDLINE (Ovid) and Embase (Ovid). Results: Out of 3654 identified records, 37 studies were deemed eligible for inclusion; these were conducted in various countries and involved populations of diverse ethnic groups diagnosed with COPD. The included studies considered provision and/or adherence to medication (n=8, 21.6%), smoking cessation (n=11, 29.7%), influenza vaccinations (n=7, 18.9%), pulmonary rehabilitation (n=11, 29.7%) and oxygen therapy (n=2, 5.4%). Outcomes varied widely between studies within a single intervention (e.g. initiation, adherence and completion of pulmonary rehabilitation programme). However, most of the included studies suggested the presence of inequalities linked to ethnicity across interventions. Conclusion: This review indicated the presence of poor adherence to nonsurgical interventions among people from minority ethnic backgrounds living with COPD. However, due to the heterogeneity in population groups considered and compared within the individual studies, it is challenging to identify and understand the key inequalities influencing adherence to nonsurgical interventions. Further research is needed to better explore this.

We present ReDU ( https://redu.ucsd.edu/ ), a system for metadata capture of public mass spectrometry-based metabolomics data, with validated controlled vocabularies. Systematic capture of knowledge enables the reanalysis of public data and/or co-analysis of one's own data. ReDU enables multiple types of analyses, including finding chemicals and associated metadata, comparing the shared and different chemicals between groups of samples, and metadata-filtered, repository-scale molecular networking.

The 2019 European Congress of Radiology program, Women in Focus: Be Inspired, offered insights from successful women and men for overcoming a number of everyday work and personal life challenges. With regard to balancing career and personal life and achieving well-being, the advice of female and male radiology leaders on the front lines, throughout the world, shares common themes. This paper highlights and expands on points of advice and encouragement from the Women in Focus program. The first step is to know yourself, so you can set priorities. Then, take charge, be brave, and follow your dreams, which may not be the same as other peoples. Finding balance requires examining your goals and acknowledging that you may not be able to get everything you want all at once. Receiving effective mentorship from numerous sources is key, as is finding an environment that supports your growth. It is important to surround yourself both at work and at home with people who support your ideas and give you a sense of peace, well-being, and resilience. If the culture does not fit, have the courage to move on. Current leaders should reach out to ensure the diversity of future teams. Society benefits, radiology benefits, and our patients benefit from a specialty that values equity, diversity, and inclusiveness.

Abstract Introduction Medicines‐centred consultations are vital to support medicine effectiveness and optimize health outcomes for patients. However, inequalities negatively impact ethnic minority populations when accessing medicines advice. It is important to identify opportunities to improve access for these communities however, knowledge of how best to achieve this is lacking; this study will generate recommendations to improve access to medicines advice from community pharmacies for people from ethnic minority communities. Methods A series of codesign workshops, with four groups of patient‐stakeholders, were conducted between September–November 2021; they took place in‐person or via video call (adhering to COVID‐19 restrictions). Existing evidence‐based perceptions affecting access to medicines advice were critiqued and recommendations were generated, by use of reflexive thematic analysis, to improve access for ethnic minority patients. The workshops were audio‐recorded and transcribed verbatim. QSR NVivo (Version 12) facilitated data analysis. Results Twelve participants were recruited using purposive sampling; including eight UK citizens, two asylum seekers and two participants in receipt of residency visas. In total, four different ethnic minority groups were represented. Each participant took part in a first and second workshop to share and cocreate recommendations to improve access to medicines advice in community pharmacies. Three recommendations were developed and centred on: (i) delivering and providing culturally competent medicines advice; (ii) building awareness of accessing medicines advice from community pharmacies; and (iii) enabling better discussions with patients from ethnic minority communities. Conclusions These recommendations have the potential to support community pharmacy services to overcome ethnic inequalities affecting medicines advice; service commissioners should consider these findings to best meet the needs of ethnic minority patients. Cultural competence training for community pharmacy staff could support the creation of pharmacies as inclusive healthcare settings. Collaborative working with ethnic minority communities could enable specific tailoring of medicines‐centred services to best meet their needs. Abstract Both cerium (Ce) and praseodymium (Pr) undergo a volume collapse transition under compression that originate from similar electronic mechanisms. Yet the outcome could not be more different. In the case of Ce with one affected 4f electron the volume collapse leaves the crystal symmetry intact, whereas for Pr with two 4f electrons the crystal symmetry changes from a distorted face centered cubic structure to a lower symmetry orthorhombic structure. In this paper, we present a study of the effect of strain/compression rate spanning nearly 4 orders of magnitude on the volume collapse phase transitions in Ce and Pr. These dynamic compression experiments in a diamond anvil cell also reveal kinetic differences between the phase transformations observed in these two materials. The transition cannot be overdriven in pressure in Ce, which indicates a fast kinetic process, whereas fast compression rates in Pr lead to a shift of the phase boundary to higher pressures, pointing to slower kinetics possibly due to the realization of a new crystal structure.

Abstract Introduction Regular reviews of medications, including prescription reviews and adherence reviews, are vital to support pharmacological effectiveness and optimize health outcomes for patients. Despite being more likely to report a long‐term illness that requires medication when compared to their white counterparts, individuals from ethnic minority communities are less likely to engage with regular medication reviews, with inequalities negatively affecting their access. It is important to understand what barriers may exist that impact the access of those from ethnic minority communities and to identify measures that may act to facilitate improved service accessibility for these groups. Methods Semi‐structured interviews were conducted between June and August 2021 using the following formats as permitted by governmental COVID‐19 restrictions: in person, over the telephone or via video call. Perspectives on service accessibility and any associated barriers and facilitators were discussed. Interviews were audio‐recorded and transcribed verbatim. Reflexive thematic analysis enabled the development of themes. QSR NVivo (Version 12) facilitated data management. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Authority (ref: 21/HRA/1426). Results In total 20 participants from ethnic minority communities were interviewed; these participants included 16 UK citizens, 2 refugees and 2 asylum seekers, and represented a total of 5 different ethnic groups. Three themes were developed from the data regarding the perceived barriers and facilitators affecting access to medication reviews and identified approaches to improve the accessibility of such services for ethnic minority patients. These centred on (1) building knowledge and understanding about medication reviews; (2) delivering medication review services; and (3) appreciating the lived experience of patients. Conclusion The results of this study have important implications for addressing inequalities that affect ethnic minority communities. Involving patients and practitioners to work collaboratively in coproduction approaches could enable better design, implementation and delivery of accessible medication review services that are culturally competent. Background Regular daily nebulised antibiotics are widely used in managing bronchiectasis. This patient population typically has severe bronchiectasis requiring multiple other medications. Given that little is known about patients’ views and preferences for such therapies, this was the focus of our study. Methods To explore patient lived-experience using nebulised antibiotics, focus groups and semi-structured interviews were conducted with patients and carers; these were audio-recorded and transcribed to enable thematic analysis. QSR NVivo software facilitated data management. The themes developed from the qualitative data analysis were then used to co-design a questionnaire to capture attitudes and preferences towards nebulised therapy. Questionnaires were completed by patients and statistical analysis was performed. Ethical approval was obtained (13/WS/0036). Results The study's focus groups comprised 13 patients and carers, and 101 patients completed the questionnaire. Patients described nebulised therapy as an imposition on their daily routine, in turn affecting reported rates of adherence. Results demonstrated that 10% of all patients using nebulised antibiotics found these hard/very hard to administer. Further, 53% of participants strongly agreed/agreed that they would prefer an antibiotic delivered by an inhaler over a nebuliser, if it were as effective at preventing exacerbations. Notably, only 10% of participants wished to remain on nebulised therapy. Conclusions Inhaled antibiotics delivered via dry powder devices were deemed quicker and easier to use by patients. Providing they were at least as effective as current nebulised treatments, patients deemed inhaled antibiotics to be a preferable treatment option.

Abstract In the last few years, the superconducting transition temperature, T c , of hydrogen-rich compounds has increased dramatically, and is now approaching room temperature. However, the pressures at which these materials are stable exceed one million atmospheres and limit the number of available experimental studies. Superconductivity in hydrides has been primarily explored by electrical transport measurements, whereas magnetic properties, one of the most important characteristic of a superconductor, have not been satisfactory defined. Here, we develop SQUID magnetometry under extreme high-pressure conditions and report characteristic superconducting parameters for Im-3m-H3S and Fm-3m-LaH10—the representative members of two families of high-temperature superconducting hydrides. We determine a lower critical field H c1 of ∼0.82 T and ∼0.55 T, and a London penetration depth λ L of ∼20 nm and ∼30 nm in H3S and LaH10, respectively. The small values of λ L indicate a high superfluid density in both hydrides. These compounds have the values of the Ginzburg-Landau parameter κ ∼12–20 and belong to the group of “moderate” type II superconductors, rather than being hard superconductors as would be intuitively expected from their high T c s.

Abstract Introduction Healthcare inequalities and ethnicity are closely related. Evidence has demonstrated that patients from ethnic minority groups are more likely to report a long‐term illness than their white counterparts; yet, in some cases, minority groups have reported poorer adherence to prescribed medicines and may be less likely to access medicine services. Three themes were developed from the data regarding the perceived barriers and facilitators affecting access to medicine services for ethnic minority patients. These centred around patient expectations of health services; appreciating cultural stigma and acceptance of certain health conditions; and individually addressing communication and language needs. Conclusion This study provides much‐needed evidence relating to the barriers and facilitators impacting minority ethnic communities when seeking medicine support. The results of this study have important implications for the delivery of person‐centred care. Involving patients and practitioners in coproduction approaches could enable the design and delivery of culturally sensitive and accessible medicine services. Curriculum mapping is the process of creating a visual representation of the teaching and assessment of learning outcomes in a degree, program or major. Best practice recommendations about curriculum mapping typically focus on mapping individual programs. Therefore, many recommendations, such as meeting individually with faculty as they map their course, may not be feasible for large-scale mapping projects. This paper describes the process of a large-scale curriculum mapping project designed to map the Bachelor of Science degree and 24 of its associated majors. The project involved the participation of faculty from three colleges within a research-intensive University to map over 400 courses. We describe the key questions and decisions involved in carrying out the mapping project, our data collection and analysis process, and our dissemination efforts to ensure that the mapping results were used to inform curricular change. La cartographie de programmes d’études consiste à créer une représentation visuelle de l’enseignement et de l’évaluation des résultats d’apprentissage dans un programme menant à un diplôme, dans un autre programme ou dans une majeure. Les recommandations pour les meilleures pratiques concernant la cartographie de programmes se concentre habituellement sur la cartographie de programmes individuels. Par conséquent, de nombreuses recommandations, telles que la rencontre individuelle avec les professeurs et les professeures alors qu’ils préparent la cartographie de leurs cours ne sont pas toujours possibles dans les cas de très grands projets de cartographie. Cet article décrit le processus d’un grand projet de cartographie de programme d’études conçu pour cartographier un baccalauréat en sciences et 24 de ses majeures associées. Le projet a impliqué la participation de professeurs et de professeures de trois collèges d’une grande université axée sur la recherche pour cartographier plus de 400 cours. Nous décrivons les questions et les décisions clés qui ont permis de mener à bien ce projet de cartographie, nos données et le processus d’analyse, ainsi que nos efforts de dissémination pour assurer que les résultats de la cartographie ont été utilisés pour effectuer les changements aux programmes d’études.

Abstract Background There is increasing interest in the role of community pharmacy in the early diagnosis and prevention of cancer. This study set out to examine how often community pharmacists (CPs) encourage patients to spot or respond to potential signs and symptoms of cancer, and how often they help people to make an informed decision about taking part in bowel cancer screening. Methods Data from 400 UK CPs, who completed the 2018 Cancer Research UK Healthcare Professional Tracker survey, were analysed. The primary outcomes were: ‘how often CPs encourage patients to spot or respond to potential signs and symptoms of cancer’ and ‘how often CPs encourage eligible people to make an informed decision to participate in bowel cancer screening’. Associations between behaviours and demographic and psychological variables (Capability, Opportunity and Motivation) were assessed using multivariate logistic regression. Results Most (n = 331, 82.8%) CPs reported occasionally, frequently or always encouraging patients to spot or respond to potential signs and symptoms of cancer, while only half (n = 203, 50.8%) reported occasionally, frequently or always helping people make an informed decision to participate in bowel cancer screening.
