2. Towards Real-Time Visual Tracking with Graded Color-names Features

Abstract

MeanShift algorithm has been widely used in tracking tasks because of its simplicity and efficiency. However, the traditional MeanShift algorithm needs to label the initial region of the target, which reduces the applicability of the algorithm. Furthermore, it is only applicable to the scene with a large overlap rate between the target area and the candidate area. Therefore, when the target speed is fast, the target scale change, shape deformation or the target occlusion occurs, the tracking performance will be deteriorated. In this paper, we address the challenges above-mentioned by developing a tracking method that combines the background models and the graded features of color-names under the MeanShift framework. This method significantly improve performance in the above scenarios. In addition, it facilitates the balance between detection accuracy and detection speed. Abstract

In this paper, we mainly study the theory of linear codes over the ring $R =\mathbb{Z}_4+u\mathbb{Z}_4+v\mathbb{Z}_4+uv\mathbb{Z}_4$. By the Chinese Remainder Theorem, we have $R$ is isomorphic to the direct sum of four rings $\mathbb{Z}_4$. We define a Gray map $\Phi$ from $R^{n}$ to $\mathbb{Z}_4^{4n}$, which is a distance preserving map. The Gray image of a cyclic code over $R^{n}$ is a linear code over $\mathbb{Z}_4$. Furthermore, we study the MacWilliams identities of linear codes over $R$ and give the the generator polynomials of cyclic codes over $R$. Finally, we discuss some properties of MDS codes over $R$.

Abstract

The thermal degradation of polylactide (PLA) during melt processing may lead to poor product properties. In this study, a unique Raman system was applied to explore the thermal degradation kinetics of molten PLA under five different temperatures and three atmospheres. It was found that the intensity of specific Raman bands correlated with the concentration of functional groups in the PLA during the degradation process. Kinetic models for thermal degradation were established based on the intensity of the characteristic band of C-COO. Kinetic parameters determined by kinetic models quantitatively revealed the effect of temperature and atmosphere on thermal degradation. Furthermore, time sweep rheological tests using the same degradation conditions were performed for verification, and the results corroborated the spectral analyses. This investigation demonstrates the feasibility of Raman spectroscopy for thermal degradation kinetic analysis. 11. Task-Specific Feature Purifying in Radar-Based Human Pose Estimation

Abstract

Recently, radar-based human pose estimation has attracted increasing attention, which aims to reconstruct the human skeleton from the radar signals with the advanced deep neural networks. However, one fundamental challenge is the interferences from task-irrelevant ingredients due to the propagation characteristics of radar signals during feature learning. In this article, we present a two-stage framework for task-specific feature purifying to distill the feature representation with high discriminability specific to the pose estimation task but less interpersonal discrepancy, which is essential to handle the difficulties arising from the task-irrelevant interferences in reconstructing the human skeleton. The logic behind the proposed two-stage feature purifying architecture is that the discrepancy among individual personal data is first eliminated with an adversarial auto-encoder module to distill the interpersonal-independent features, and then the pose-irrelevant components are removed through a feature disentanglement module to form task-specific features for human pose estimations. The two-stage architecture turns out to be considerably effective for feature purifying against the interferences due to the task-irrelevant ingredients involved in the feature learning process. The experimental study is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

With rapid population aging and increasingly indoor sensing technologies, mining effective information in sensor data is in need that we can analyse individual behaviour semantics, or even predict intentions. The model for indoor activity recognition (AR) is usually based on statistic while sensor data can impliedly reflect abundant information in order. Behaviour will trigger environment perception sensors. Inspired by information transmission in nature, persistent action keeps activity pheromone accumulating and inactive action keeps it volatilizing along with time shift. Different from statistic model, our framework proposes a method to construct multi factor features named activity pheromone matrix (APM). It has a double-layer model for recognizing daily activities include the high-overlapping. The experimental results show that our method can effectively promote the accuracy of activities recognition compared with the existing statistical models, even the high-overlapping activities in small areas.

Abstract

In this Letter, the authors propose a novel framework based on block sparse Bayesian learning (bSBL) for exploiting the tree structure on wavelet coefficients in the process of recovering signals. A Boolean matrix is designed to transfer the tree structure of wavelet coefficients to a non-overlapped block structure. In this block-structured sparse model, the bSBL-based algorithm is used to learn the intra-block correlations and to derive the updating rule of model parameters. Experimental results show that for both 1D and 2D signals their proposed algorithm has superior performances compared with other model-based compressive sensing algorithms.

41. A comparative analysis for the volatile compounds of various Chinese dark teas using combinatory metabolomics and fungal solid-state fermentation

Abstract

A total of 98 compounds including 20 aldehydes, eight arenes, six acids, 17 alcohols, 13 ketones, nine esters, nine methoxyphenolics, three alkenes, seven alkanes, and six other components were tentatively identified in six Chinese dark teas (CDTs) using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Multivariate statistical analysis revealed that dark teas from Yunnan and Guangxi provinces could be classified into one group, and other CDTs belonged to the other cluster. The diagnostic volatile compounds being responsible for CDTs' discrimination were observed as (E,E)-2,4-decadienal, methoxyphenolics, geraniol, α-terpineol, 2,4-heptadienal, cis-jasmone, linalool oxides, and 2-nonenal. Furthermore, mature tea leaves were separately fermented using Eurotium cristatumand Aspergillus niger.The results showed that E. cristatumincreased the contents of cis-jasmone, α-terpineol, ß-ionone, nonanal, and 2-pentylfuran, whereas A. nigeradvanced the levels of geraniol, linalool oxides, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid, and ß-ionone after short-term fermentation. Fungus species may contribute to forming the flavor of Chinese dark teas by affecting the volatile compounds during postfermentation.

On the basis of the analysis of main problems existing in current agricultural meteorological service in China, for the purpose of exploring a solution to the “last kilometer†problem in rural meteorological service, this article designed four short message service products with the business brand name “meteorology for agricultural condition†, including “weather prediction for farming season†, “weather forecast for farming†, “weather alert†, and †meteorological hazards of agriculture†. By taking advantage of telecom operators’ market, these products have been spread to more than 100 million rural mobile phone users and widely welcomed. They also contributed enormously to disaster prevention and peasants' income growth, and achieved good social and economic benefits.

Abstract

Human localization with fiber-optic sensors is a data-efficient, low-computational-cost substitute for vision-based approaches, especially, in indoor environments. A challenging task in building such a system is increasing the sensing efficiency, that is, the ratio of the number of monitored cells to that of sensors involved. In this paper, we develop a spatiooral Boolean compressed sensing model for addressing this issue. Specifically, we formulate the sensing task as the issue of encoding and decoding the sensed space in a joint spatiooral fashion, and we employ ant colony optimization for creating the required codebook. The design and implementation of this model is presented as well. Two aspects are mainly concerned. First, the modular design paradigm is explored to facilitate the deployment scalability. Second, a calibration mechanism is incorporated into the signal acquisition process for reliability enhancement. A lab-scale prototype system is developed for localizing two persons within a 7 x 7 grid using only 12 sensors, which are more efficient compared with 15 sensors required in a conventional model. The experimental results are reported to validate the proposed model.
