The use of solar photovoltaics (PV) energy provides additional resources to the electric power grid. The downside of this integration is that the solar power supply is unreliable and highly dependent on the weather condition. The predictability and stability of forecasting are critical for the full utilization of solar power. This study reviews and evaluates various machine learning-based models for solar PV power generation forecasting using a public dataset. Furthermore, The root mean squared error (RMSE), mean squared error (MSE), and mean average error (MAE) metrics are used to evaluate the results. Linear Regression, Gaussian Process Regression, K-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Trees, Gradient Boosting Regression Trees, Multi-layer Perceptron, and Support Vector Regression algorithms are assessed. Their responses against false data injection attacks are also investigated. The Multi-layer Perceptron Regression method shows robust prediction on both regular and noise injected datasets over other methods., Comment: 6 pages,3 figures, 3 tables, 2021 International Conference & Exposition on Modern Energy and Power Systems (ICMEPS2021)

Scholin (3), O. Evren Guler (3) Abstract: ABSTRACT The cue-word technique is frequently used with adults to examine the distribution of autobiographical memories across the life span. Such studies demonstrate childhood amnesia: a paucity of memories of events from the first 31/2 years of life, and a gradually increasing number of memories from age 3 to age 7. The pattern is remarkable in light of findings of autobiographical competence among children in the period of life eventually obscured by this amnesia. In the present study, we modified the cue-word task for use with school-age children. Seven- to 10-year-olds successfully generated and dated memories of past events. Girls provided more complete narratives than boys. Across the sample, the resulting distribution of memories was better fit by an exponential than by a power function, implying that early memories may not consolidate and instead remain vulnerable to interference. Implications for explanations of childhood amnesia are discussed. An important need at the level of society is represented by the desire to efficiently allocate public funds, taking into account the great existing needs. The current allocation of municipal funds is carried out, most of the time, without clear criteria. A positive example of the allocation of public funds is represented by projects financed from European funds, because there are clear criteria for projects that are financed from non-reimbursable external sources. Fuzzy logic models have applications in fields such as control theory or artificial intelligence. At the same time, fuzzy logic has been implemented in electronic products such as cameras, washing machines, air conditioners or microwave ovens. The innovative element of this model is represented by the combination of elements of economic analysis of investment projects and elements of modern analysis using fuzzy techniques. This multicriteria analysis with fuzzy logic (MAFL) uses 3 criteria (total investment cost per kilometre, time savings per kilometer and economic net present value per kilometer) extracted from the economic analysis of 3 investment projects. The selected project is P1 (Oradea – Arad highway) according to the application of the multicriteria algorithm with fuzzy logic (MAFL) which assumes that the selected project is the one with the maximum value in the column vector related to the projects (inference)

Extant literature in the field of interior point methods (IPM) for Linear Programming (LP) is mostly algorithmic-based and makes little effort to introduce the LP theory itself. A study is conducted to demonstrate that it is also possible to generate a simple and self-contained derivation of the basics of duality for LP from the perspective of the IPM approach. It is shown that the logarithmic barrier function for the primal-dual problem has its own minimizer for every value of the barrier parameter. This study contributes to the IPM literature by improving the accessibility of IPMs and by focusing on a methodological approach that differs from methodologies that employ vertices and optimal bases of the classical Simplex-based technique.

hyaluronic acid ,chondrocytes ,chondroadherin ,collagen type II ,hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha - Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of three different formulations of hyaluronic acid (HA): Low molecular weight (MW) Sinovial One((R)), medium MW Viscoplus((R)) and high MW Durolane((R)), on chondrocyte proliferation and collagen type II (COL2A1), hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1 alpha) and chondroadherin (CHAD) expression in primary chondrocyte cultures. Standard primary chondrocyte cultures were established from osteochondral tissues surgically obtained from 6 patients with gonarthrosis. Cell morphology was evaluated using an inverted light microscope; cell proliferation was determined with a MTT assay and confirmed with acridine orange/propidium iodide staining. Levels of CHAD, COL2A1 and HIF-1 alpha expression were assessed using specific TaqMan gene expression assays. The results demonstrated the positive effect of HA treatment on cell proliferation, which was independent from the MW. COL2A1 expression increased in the medium and high MW HA treated groups. It was observed that HIF-1 alpha expression increased in the high MW treated group alone. CHAD expression increased only in the medium MW HA treated group. Evaluation of gene expression revealed that levels of expression increased as the duration of HA application increased, in the medium and high MW HA treated groups. In terms of increased viability and proliferation, a longer duration of HA application was more effective. Taken together, it may be concluded that the administration of medium and high MW HA may be a successful way of treating diseases affecting chondrocytes in a clinical setting.

Turkish Grain Board (TMO) General Directorate Building was designed by Vedat Özsan, Cengiz Bektaş ve Oral Vural (Özsan-Bektaş-Vural Architects) in 1964 and constructed between 1964 and 1968 in Ankara. One of the significant aspects of the building is the involvement of works of art. One percent of the building cost was allocated to the works of art. Moreover, the architects get inspired by some artists during the building design. Such kind of art and architecture synthesis was common in modern architecture between 1950 and 1980 both in Turkey and in the world. However, this aspect of the TMO building is not known enough in the literature. The aim of this study is to analyze the works of art in TMO General Directorate building in terms of art and architecture synthesis. The research method was mainly based on the literature about art and architecture synthesis, individual writings of architect Cengiz Bektaş and some artists (Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Burhan Alkar etc.) and the analysis of the building on site. These works of art vary from wall ceramic to stained glass, and after 1988, a monumental sculpture was added to the building via competition. Moreover, after this sculptor competition, TMO established a plastic arts application center in 1989.

Objective:It was aimed to compare the diagnostic rates of radiological diagnostic methods such as chest X-rays and chest computerized tomography (CCT) and swab (throat and nose) reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction test (RT-PCR) in preoperative screening for the detection of Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection.Method:One hundred-seven preoperative patients who were asymptomatic for COVID-19 were retrospectively evaluated. Their demographic data were evaluated along with RT-PCR test results, chest X-rays and CCTs defined according to the Radiological Society of North America expert consensus on COVID-19.Results:Chest X-rays were performed in 55 (51.4%) cases, and CCT in 52 (48.6%) patients. None of the chest X-rays displayed findings of COVID-19 infection. In 2 (3.8%) CCTs, typical findings of COVID-19 infection were observed. Four (3.7%) cases were RT-PCR positive. The diagnostic rate of radiological methods (chest X-rays and CCT) for COVID-19 was 1.8%, while that of RT-PCR was 3.7%. CCT had a sensitivity of 50%, a specificity of 98%, and accuracy of 96% when compared to RT-PCR for the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection during the preoperative screening of asymptomatic patients. Conclusion:Radiological diagnostic methods such as chest X-ray and CCT should not be mandatorily/routinely suggested because of their low sensitivity in the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection in preoperative screening for asymptomatic cases. More studies with larger patient populations will be more illuminating on this issue.

Introduction: To compare orthopaedic trauma cases treated surgically in our clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey with surgically-treated trauma cases in previous periods, and to discuss these in the light of literature. Materials and Methods: Patient data of 3 different periods were compared. Group 1 included cases in the time period 11 March - 30 May, when the hospital was operating as a pandemic hospital for the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. Group 2 included cases from the equivalent time period the year before the pandemic, thought to have similar patient characteristics, and Group 3 covered the time period immediately before 11 March when COVID-19 was known in the world but there had not been any cases diagnosed in Turkey. Operations were performed in our clinic because of orthopaedic trauma to 186 patients in Group 1, to 262 patients in Group 2, and to 261 patients in Group 3. Results: A decrease of 29% was observed in trauma cases during the pandemic. In Group 1, 62 of 186 patients were aged >65 years, and 43 of these (69%) had a hip fracture. In Group 2, 33 (58%) patients aged >65 years underwent surgery for hip fracture and in Group 3, 60 (75%) patients. The time from hospital admission to surgery was mean 3.76±3.55 days in Group 1, 3.18±3.08 days in Group 2, and 2.68±2.33 days in Group 3 (p=0.017). The number of cases of attempted suicides was 6, 3, 3, respectively in the three groups (p=0.184). 30-day mortality was determined in 5, 3, and 4 cases, respectively (p=0.460). Conclusions: A decrease in the number of trauma cases was observed during the pandemic. However, there was no such decrease in hip fractures in elderly patients despite the quarantine of those aged >65 years. The workforce of the clinic was divided up during the pandemic for the diagnosis and follow-up of COVID-19 cases and thus there was no reduction in the workload of orthopedists as trauma surgery continued at the rate of 71%. Therefore, it can be considered very important to apply strict regulations which will decrease the risk of the spread of infection, and implement a multidisciplinary work flow for the more rapid discharge of trauma patients.

- Abstract
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) and, to a lesser extent. carbonic anhydrase XII (CA XII) are highly overexpressed in hypoxic tumors. In this study, the inhibitory effects of 11 different anticancer drugs including paclitaxel, amethopterin, etoposide, irinotecan, gemcitabine, 5-fluorouracil, oxaliplatin, epirubicin, cisplatin and carboplatin on the tumor-associated carbonic anhydrase isozymes CA IX and CA XII and cytosolic carbonic anhydrases I and II have been investigated. SX. 18MV-R Applied Photophysics stopped-flow instrument was used for measuring the initial velocities for the CO, hydration reaction catalyzed by different CA isozymes. by following the change in the absorbance of a pH indicator CA IX and CA XII were the Most affected by carboplatin and cisplatin amongst the panel of anticancer drugs. Moreover, the cytosolic carbonic anhydrases I and H can also be affected. Consequently, CA IX and CA XII are interesting targets for anticancer drug development, although more selective and powerful CA inhibitors could prove useful for elucidating the role of the protein in hypoxic cancers, for controlling the pH imbalance in tumor cells and for developing diagnostic or therapeutic applications for the management of hypoxic tumors, generally unresponsive to classical chemo- and radiotherapy Copyright 2008 Prous Science. Austenitic stainless steels (SSs) are commonly used as in-core and surrounding structural materials in today’s industrial BWR and PWR systems. Such adaptable steels have also been the primary materials studied and used in several advanced nuclear reactor technologies, such as fast breeding and magnetic fusion reactors. In this study, some critical material properties, such as structural, physical, and radiation-shielding properties of REX-734 and 316L SS, were experimentally evaluated and compared to those of a number of other alloys. In addition to homogeneous element distribution, both alloys exhibit strong crystal orientation. The REX-734 alloy has a tensile strength of 1,259 MPa, whereas the 316L SS alloy has a tensile strength of 495 MPa. Moreover, nitrogen in the REX-734 alloy formed ultra-hard nitrides with Cr, Nb, and Si and precipitated into the structure and increased the strength. According to our findings, the mass attenuation coefficient values of the 316L SS sample were slightly higher than those of the REX-734 sample at all energies. It can be concluded that the REX-734 sample, with its exceptional strength qualities and excellent radiation attenuation capabilities, may be a viable nuclear power plant material for future investigations.

Objective:The uses of flow volume loop (FVL) section of pulmonary function test (PFT) and thorax computed tomography (TCT) are examined in the evaluation of dyspnea, which is one of the leading symptoms of compression due to goiter.Method:Thirty-six patients who were admitted to the Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis Clinic of University of Health Sciences Turkey, Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital between August 2019 and January 2020 with the complaint of dyspnea and who were diagnosed with goiter were enrolled in this prospective study. To determine the compression of the goiter on the trachea, PFT and TCT were performed in all cases. The patients were evaluated in terms of age, gender, smoking history, complaints, respiratory system physical examination findings, FVL, type of goiter, presence of TCT findings of external compression and deviation of trachea due to goiter. The degree of external compression on trachea according to the TCT were grouped as follows grade 0: No compression on the trachea, grade 1: Compression narrowing the tracheal lumen diameter less than 50%, grade 2: Compression narrowing the tracheal lumen diameter more than 50%. FVL in PFT was grouped as normal and upper airway obstruction (UAO).Results:Twenty-six of the 36 cases were female (72.22%). The median age was 54.50 (range, 32-80) years. When the location of the goiter was evaluated, it was found that 25 (69.44%) of the cases had retrosternal goiter (RSG) and 11 (30.56%) had cervical goiter (CG). In terms of FVL, 28 (77.78%) were compatible with UAO and 8 (22.22%) with normal condition. Tracheal deviation was detected in 18 (50%) cases. External compression of trachea was detected in 28 (77.78%) cases, grade 1 in 14 (38.89%) cases and Grade 2 in 14 (38.89%) cases. FVL was found to be compatible with UAO in grade 0, 1, and 2 with the percentages of 25%, 85.71%, and 100%, respectively (p=0.0001). Normal FVL appearance in Grade 0 group was statistically significant when compared to grade 1 and grade 2 (p=0.001). According to goiter type, the compatibility of FVL with UAO was higher in the RSG group with a statistical significance (p=0.002).Conclusion:Although TCT is useful in evaluating the boundaries of the disease and surgical anatomy in patients with goiter, preoperatively, the FVL of the PFT should be considered as a priority over TCT to support the clinical correlation of dyspnea due to goiter.

Post-operative chemoradiotherapy is one of the therapeutic approaches for operated gastric cancer. During radiotherapy planning, pancreas has not been accepted as a critical organ until now, thus toxicity to pancreas has not been considered. In our prospective study, serum pancreatic enzyme levels and pancreatic volume after RT is investigated. Seventy-one patients with gastric cancer were evaluated adjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Mean pancreas volume, mean pancreas radiotherapy dose and V5, V10, V20 and V40 values were calculated. Fasting blood glucose, insulin, amylase and glycosylated hemoglobin levels were evaluated before radiotherapy and re-evaluated at the end of radiotherapy, at 1th, 3rd, 6th and 12th months after radiotherapy. Pancreas volume was evaluated before radiotherapy and re-evaluated at 12th month after radiotherapy. Before the initiation, after the first session and at the 1th, 3th, 6th and 12th months of radiotherapy, difference between serum Fasting blood glucose (p= 0.179), insulin (p= 0.296), HbA1c (p= 0.468) and amylase levels (p= 0.069) levels were not statistically significant but there is statistically significant decrease in pancreatic volume after treatment (p= 0.002). Postoperative chemoradiotherapy is able to prolong survival and decrease recurrence in operated gastric cancer patients. In our prospective study, we could not identify any statistically significant finding related to pancreatic toxicity or its presentation on biochemical parameters except pancreas atrophy in one-year period. Although, there was not any self-reported diabetes mellitus at early period it, follow-up needed for late toxicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the main topics of debate in the specialized literature is the analysis of the efficiency of public and private investments and the impact of investments related to economic development, especially at the level of the European Union. The research methodology used in this paper involves data analysis, observation, modeling and interpretation of sensitivity analysis results. I will present the performance of the operational programs in Romania from the two 7-year multiannual budgeting periods of the European Union, 2007 - 2013 and 2014 - 2020. The purpose of this paper is represented by the analysis of investments made through European funds in Romania as well as the way in which the efficiency of these investments can be increased so that European money can lead to an increase in the quality of life in our country. In this paper I want to contribute to the development of literature by analyzing the limits of the use of European funds in Romania in the field of infrastructure and in a future paper I want to extend this analysis to other countries in the European Union. The absorption rate in the period 2007 - 2013 at the level of Romania was about 90%, Romania losing about 2 billion euro, enough money to achieve 400 kilometers of the highway at an average cost of 5 million euros per kilometer. From my point of view, the money received from the European Union has changed Romania for the last 14 years since the accession of 2007. Regarding the financial allocation for the period 2014 - 2020, there is a 72% increase for the Regional Operational Programme, so that for the regional development the beneficiaries have available 6.86 billion euros compared with 3.96 billion euros as they were allocated per funding periods 2007 - 2013. The North East Region, which is one of the least developed region in the European Union, has a lower allocation than the West Region, one of the most developed regions in Romania. This aspect is paradoxical and does not support the balanced territorial development and the reduction of the gaps between the regions.

OBJECTIVES: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) can be described as a clear and constant fear of the individual for being judged by others in the social milieu and being mocked by others. Although SAD is a treatable disorder, there is a diagnostic confusion due to many factors such as the difficulty in recognizing the symptoms of the disease. There are several scales currently available for SAD symptom measurement; however, some of them are long scales and should be answered by the patient and do not include physiologic manifestations. The Brief Social Phobia Scale (BSPS), which is a scoring system scored by the clinician, has an important place among these scales. There are three different subscales, which are fear, avoidance, and physiological symptoms on the BSPS. The aim of this study is to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the BSPS. METHODS: The BSPS, sociodemographic data form, Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI I–II), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Scale were applied to 55 patients with social phobia (31 males, 24 females) who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV) criteria. Internal consistency of the scale was measured and the factor analysis was performed after applying Kaiser Meyer Olkin and Bartlett tests to assess the construct validity. To test the concurrent validity of the scale, Pearson correlation coefficient was computed between the BSPS and the LSAS. Its correlation with STAI I–II, BDI, BAI, and GAF was also investigated. RESULTS: The Turkish version of the BSPS showed sufficient internal consistency. As a result of the factor analysis, a five-factor structure that accounts for 71.4% of the total variance was obtained and the loading of factors differs from the original study. Moderately strong correlation was found between the BSPS and the LSAS scores. There was a mild correlation between the total score of the BSPS and the STAI-I and BDI. There was a moderate correlation between the total scale score of the BSPS and the STAI-II and BAI scores. CONCLUSIONS: As a result of the validity and reliability studies, it has been determined that the Turkish version of the BSPS can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool in detecting SAD. It was found that there were unique anxiety findings that distinguish SAD from the other anxiety disorders. It is thought that the inclusion of such important symptoms within the applied scale will also benefit clinical practice.

This article explores how men living in Istanbul talk about the sociality of house and care work – vacuuming the house, cooking, doing the laundry – in their everyday lives. It shows how these tasks are crucial for understanding contemporary Turkish men and how they are intertwined with notions of masculinity. This research is part of a larger study conducted between 2008 and 2010 across Turkey exploring the negotiation of masculine subjectivities by married men. Overall, the men’s narratives indicated a relationship in transition with both their children and their wives, where dilemmas and contradictions were presented with the emerging modernist discourse of egalitarianism (Boratav, Fişek, Eslen-Ziya 2017 and 2014). In this paper, such dilemmas reflected in the egalitarianism discourse between the genders are studied in relation to the division of labour within the household. While the data were collected before the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that the existing trends in so-called ordinary days will enable us to understand the extent to which gender roles are either challenged or re-constructed at home during extraordinary times.

The effect of the amount of carbon nanotubes on the electrical and optical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT)-zinc oxide nanocomposites was investigated. In this study, carbon nanotubes were prepared by chemical vapor deposition in a fluidized reactor. The diameters and lengths of the carbon nanotubes that were synthesized were determined by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy to be 20–30 nm and a few micrometers, respectively. Then, CNTs were added to commercial zinc oxide powder to prepare the nanocomposite. The structural, optical, and electrical properties of the samples were characterized by various techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-vis absorption, and electrical transport measurements. The room temperature conductivity σ25 values of the undoped ZnO and ZnO doped with 0.1% CNTs, 0.2% CNTs, and 5% CNTs were found to be 6.55×10-5, 5.46×10-4, 1.23×10-3, and 2.83×10-2 S/cm, respectively. The optical band gaps of the composites were determined by the Kubelka-Munk theory based on the analysis of diffuse reflectance. The results that were obtained indicated that the electrical and optical properties of ZnO semiconductors can be improved by the incorporation of CNTs. However, the ZnO lost some of its distinctive properties when excess amounts of CNTs were used in the ZnO-CNT composites.

Purpose: We investigated the neurological outcome of 38 late-diagnosed phenylketonuria patients with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalography (EEG), visual evoked potentials (VEP), intelligence quotients (IQ) and examined the correlation of these parameters with the age and the plasma phenylalanine levels of patients at diagnosis.Material and Methods: Thirty-eight late-diagnosed classic phenylketonuria patients were enrolled in the study. Plasma phenylalanine levels were measured by spectrofluorometric method. MRI was evaluated by a pediatric neuroradiologist. Ankara developmental screening inventory (ADSI) and Wechsler intelligence scale for Turkish children (WISC-R) test were performed to detect IQ scores. Porteus Mazo test adapted for Turkish children intelligence test were performed to all children. The EEG of all patients were recorded. VEP was used to measure the electrical activity in the brain to visual stimulus. Results: The high plasma phenylalanine levels and late-diagnosis were associated with low IQ scores, pathological EEG, and pathological VEP patterns. High PA levels were also associated with more serious white matter signal abnormalities. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated the impact of early diagnosis and low levels of phenylalanine at diagnosis on the intellectual, neurological development and visual outcomes.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are rare childhood neoplasms, with benign clinical course. Although etiology of IMTs are not clear, recent studies have reported that IMT is a true neoplasm rather than a reactive or inflammatory lesion. IMTs are rarely seen in adults and tracheal involvement is also rare both in adults and also in children. We describe a 16-year old female patient who was misdiagnosed and treated as asthma in another center for a few months and presented with acute respiratory distress due to upper airway obstruction. Computerized tomography (CT) of the chest and rigid bronchoscopy revealed a mass lesion that was nearly totally obliterating tracheal lumen. Bronchoscopic resection was performed under general anesthesia and the final pathological diagnosis was tracheal IMT.

Primary benign tumors of the trachea are uncommon. These tumors may cause tracheal occlusion and lead to a misdiagnosis of asthma. Ectopic parathyroid adenoma (EPA) can be seen anywhere between the mandibular angle and the mediastinum. The distal part of the trachea is a rare location for EPA, and EPA obstructing the endotracheal lumen has not been reported in the literature. We herein describe a 52-year-old female with a several-year history of asthma treatment who presented with progressive dyspnea. Computed tomography revealed a mass that was obstructing the tracheal lumen. Total mass excision was performed via endobronchial treatment, and pathologic examination revealed EPA.

Background: Oxidative stress is involved in several pathologic conditions such as metabolic or cardiovascular disease, and in aging. Oxidative damage of biomolecules increases with age. Melatonin is the main neurohormone of the pineal gland and specific antioxidants may act against age-related oxidative damage. Objective: This study investigated the effects of administration of melatonin on aging-related parameters such as total oxidant status (TOS), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and lipid hydroperoxide (LOOH) levels and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in the heart and liver in a rat model of aging. Methods: Young (3-month-old) and aged (24-month-old) male Wistar rats were divided into control and melatonin-treated groups. Melatonin was given for 21 days (10 mg/kg/day). At the end of the treatment period, TOS, TAC, H2O2, and LOOH levels were measured. Results: H2O2 in the liver, but not in the heart, was found to be increased in aged rats. Melatonin treatment diminished H2O2 in the heart of both group of rats compared with those of untreated control rats. Melatonin treatment also led to a decrease in H2O2 in the liver of aged rats. LOOH were found to be increased in both tissues of aged rats whereas melatonin treatment decreased LOOH levels in heart and liver tissues of aged rats. In the young rats melatonin also inhibited LOOH in liver. TAC in heart and liver was not found to be statistically different between young and aged rats. In young rats, melatonin treatment resulted in an increase in TAC that was associated with increased H2O2. In the liver and heart of the rats, TOS was increased with age and was ameliorated by melatonin treatment. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that there is no dramatic overall decline in the antioxidant system with age. However, total oxidant status increased with age. Melatonin has a restorative effect on oxidative status.

Fatty acid composition of the muscle lipids of Carassius gibelio, Pseudophoxinus anatolicus, Sander lucioperca, Tinca tinca, Vimba vimba tenella and Capoeta capoeta in Sugla Lake were determined. In all species, palmitic acid (13.25- 18.54% of total fatty acids) and oleic acid (11.93-34.23% of total fatty acids) were identified as major saturated fatty acid (SFA) and monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), respectively. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) was found to be the major polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) in T. tinca, C. capoeta, C. gibelio, P. anatolicus and S. lucioperca while the predominant PUFA of V. vimba tenella was eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). S. lucioperca contained more ω3 fatty acids than the other fish species. The percentages of total ω3 fatty acids were higher than those of total ω6 fatty acids in all species. Since P. anatolicus is endemic and endangered, this species should be protected and produced for future marketing.

Summary: Objective: To investigate the importance of urinal neopterin detection carried out together with cervical smear test, in the diagnosis of cervical cancer. Methods: In this study, urine samples were collected from randomly selected vulvovaginitis’ women who attended hospital and an independent control group. The participants were classified into two representative sample groups and a control group; 1st Group: 35 women with vulvovaginitis, whose ages varied fro 21 to 42 and who had no viral infections, and chronic inflammatory diseases and no smoking habit, but had complaints of vaginal discharge. 2nd Group: 25 women aged between 38–52 with no smoking habit, who applied to hospital with complaints of vaginal discharge, and cervical cancer was diagnosed for them as the result of biopsy, but no associated treatment of cancer had been carried out yet. 3rd Group: A control group with 30 women who aged between 20 and 28, with no smoking habit, and who had not taken part in sexual activities yet. They had no complaints from any type of tumors, and viral infections or chronic inflammatory diseases. Urinalysis was carried out for each group member’s urine sample in order to measure the level of neopterin. Neopterin was estimated by HPLC. Some statistical analyses were done by SPSS Windows 10.0 and were analyzed by Oneway Annova test. (p=0.000) Meaningful differences between the groups were determined by Post Hoc Tukey Test. Results: The mathematical results of neopterin levels for the groups revealed that the level of Group 1 was significantly higher than the level of Group 3 (p= 0.0001). When the levels of Group 1 and 2 were compared with each other, a significant difference was determined (p=0.004). Also, the difference in the levels of Group 2 and 3 was found to be significant (p=0.0001). Conclusions: If the results of this study were not confounded by another factor, then we can deduce that an increment in the level of neopterin may be considered as a risk factor that should warrant further investigation of cervical cancer. Then, the detection of urinal neopterin level as a noninvasive test done together with cervical smear can increase the sensitivity of smear test.

Purpose: Besides the evident positive effect on body development, physical activity has proven to boost executive functions, especially if the exercises are enriched with cognitive stimuli. Previous studies have shown that introducing challenging exercises in the physical activity routine can also enhance motivation. Therefore, enriching a physical education program with cognitively challenging exercises may also foster children’s motivation during physical education classes, where the motivation is high at the beginning of the school year and low at the end of it. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to test if a sport program enriched by cognitive stimuli may improve kids’ motivation or take them out from a state of amotivation along the school year. Methods: A sample of 342 school children (203 boys, 139 girls) took part in the study. Participants were asked to complete a battery of motivation and perceived social support questionnaires before and after they completed the ESA Program, a sport program enriched with cognitive stimuli. Moreover, parents of these children attended four seminars about the importance of supporting children for the practice of regular physical activity (PA). A control group consisting of children that attended the ordinary physical education school class was also included. Results: A repeated measures MANOVA model showed that the ESA Program was able to improve children’s general motivation, in particular the intrinsic motivation. The program was not effective in social support, but, independently from the group, the family social support in sports activities decreased for females. Conclusion: Apart from cognitive improvement, the ESA Program can have beneficial effects on children’s sports motivation in physical education, but not on perceived social support. Keywords: motivation, social support, enriched sport program, physical education, gender difference.

Purpose: The effects of physical exercise on executive functions (EFs) are well documented. EFs are involved in daily activities, and their development determines the quality of people’s future life, both in terms of mental health and quality of life. The purpose of the current paper is to evaluate the effects of a physical education program, elaborated within the Enriched Sports Activity Program (ESA Program), an Erasmus + Project, on EFs, namely, visuospatial working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and task switching. Method: Data were collected on November 2017 (t1) and May 2018 (t2). At t1, a sample of 357 children from four European countries (Italy, Germany, Lithuania, and Turkey) performed a cognitive test battery made up of Digit Span Forward/Backward, Stroop Task, and Trail Making Test (TMT), whose order was randomized. From November until May, classrooms from the experimental group followed the ESA Program, while classrooms from the control continued with the ordinary physical education class. At t2, children from both experimental and control groups performed again the cognitive battery. Result: The repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant effect of the ESA Program on the TMT B and on Digit Span Backward, but no significant effects were found on Digit Span Forward and Stroop Task. Conclusion: The introduction of a sport program enriched with cognitive stimuli has beneficial effects for children working memory and cognitive flexibility. Keywords: training program, high-order cognitive abilities, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, physical education class, working memory.

Functional movement deficiencies cause falls and injuries in adults. Functional strength training (FST) is emerging as a new training method for athletes, middle-aged and older adults, to improve functional movement: The present study was conducted in order to investigate the effects of FST on balance and functional movement in healthy and independent middle-aged adults. The sample for this study consisted of 46 physically active individuals (24 female and 22 male). A total of 46 subjects were divided based on randomly into the functional strength training (FST) group (n = 26) aged: 51.55 ± 3.73 years; height: 168.69 ± 8.8 cm; body mass: 75.88 ± 12.18; and traditional strength training (TST) group (n = 20) age: 52.85 ± 4.01; height: 166.9 ± 9.98; body mass: 76.15 ± 10.45. Each group performed 24 sessions of a training protocol three-time a week. The functional movement was assessed using the functional movement screen (FMS) protocol. Balance performance was determined by using the balance error scoring system (BESS). Bodyweight and body fat ratio were measured using bioelectric impedance. There was a significant statistical difference between FMS total scores after an eight-week FST in the FST group. After the intervention, the functional strength group tended to have significantly better balance control than the traditional strength group (p = 0.01). Statistically, significant differences were observed between pre-test and post-test in the intervention group on BMI, body fat, and body mass (p = 0.01). There were not found significant differences in balance control and FMS score in TST group. As a result of this study, FST positively affected the FMS total score and balance performance in middle-aged adults. Early detections of the deficiencies in functional movement and balance in the middle ages may reduce the risk of insufficiency and fall in adults through targeted functional strength training intervention.

Background: Physical fitness in youth is a predictor of health in adulthood. The main objective of the present study was to understand if an enriched sport activity program could increase physical fitness in a population of schoolchildren. Methods: In a sample of 672 children aged 10.0 ±, 1.90 years, different motor skills were tested by the 1 kg and 3 kg ball throw (BT), the standing broad jump (SBJ), the 30 m sprint (30mS), the leger shuttle run (LSR), the illinois agility test (IGT), and the quadruped test (QT). Within the controlled-trial, the intervention group (ESA) underwent an additional warm-up protocol, which included cognitive enhancing elements, for 14 weeks while the control group continued with ordinary exercise activity. Results: A significant increase was present regarding the 1 kg and 3 kg BT, the SBJ, the 30mS, and the IGT, while no significant difference was shown regarding the QT and the LSR in the ESA group between pre and post intervention. In the control group, no differences were present for any test except for the QT and the LSR post-test. Conclusion: A 14-week structured physical intervention had moderate effects regarding throwing, jumping, sprinting, and agility in a sample of schoolchildren.
