Background: Different sizes of arch could influence in digital methods to obtaining dental impressions and 3D models. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the accuracy of two intra-oral scanners and conventional impression methods for the fabrication of working casts. Methods: Conventional impressions of a reference cast were obtained. Digital impressions were obtained with two intra-oral scanners: Cerec Omnicam (CO) and 3Shape Trios (ST). The obtained digital stereolithographic casts were printed on Zenith D 3D printer. The reference cast and fabricated casts were scanned with a bench top scanner and saved in STL format. All STL records were analyzed in specific software: complete arch (CA), partial arch (PA) and prepared teeth area (PT). One-way and two-way analyses of variance were performed to compare the accuracy, followed by the Tukey test. Results: No significant intergroup differences in trueness and precision were observed for the two intra-oral scanners. 3D printed casts had the lowest trueness when complete arch was analyzed and differed statistically from the stone cast. For complete arch precision, stone cast presented better results, however statistically different only from the CO. Conclusions: The two intraoral scanner systems had similar accuracy. Stone casts had higher trueness than 3D printed casts for CA. For CA precision, 3D printed cast presented similar results to the stone cast.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico In order to test the stability of dentinal tubules occlusion promoted by tubular front sealing agents to corrosive / abrasive challenges, the aim of our study is to evaluate the occlusion and stability of tubule-occluded products for the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. Fifty sound tooth were randomly assigned in five groups (n=10), CL: Self Adhesive Sealant (Clinpro XT), TM: Calcium phosphate (Teethmate Desensitizer), GL: Glutaraldehyde (5% Gluma Desensitizer), NP: nano calcium phosphate (Nano P), 5% potassium oxalate (Painless). They were prepared to expose dentinal tubules of the cervical region, just below the cement enamel junction, submitted to treatment and later the challenges with hydrochloric acid and brushing, to simulate oral cavity of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The analyzes were performed by counting, area and perimeter of the tubules, surface roughness, volume variation, height and angle vertical step, using the laser confocal microscope to evaluate the power of tubule-occluding agents and durability after the acids challenges and brushing. All criteria evaluated were submitted to appropriate statistical analysis. The effectiveness of the tested agents was evidenced in relation to time periods, all groups showed statistical differences between the initial and after treatment stages however only the CL, TM, GL groups did not achieve statistical differences between treatment and post challenge stages, proving stronger. When compared between groups, the CL was the only group that promoted complete obliteration of all dentinal tubules, maintained this obliteration after the challenges, and presents statistics differences in relation to the other groups in all variables. The use of desensitizing agents is effective in dentinal tubule occlusion. The CL, TM, GL agents were more resistant against biocorrosive-erosive challenges; the CL group was group that promoted better tubule obliteration. The surface roughness was higher for the CL group after the challenges. O tratamento da hipersensibilidade dentinária é controverso, devido à falta de estudos que comprovam a efetividade e longa duração dos protocolos, assim como a sua estabilidade frente aos eventos de biocorrosão e abrasão que ocorrem na cavidade oral, principalmente em pacientes que sofrem de refluxo gastroesofágico. Esse tratamento é embasado nos princípios de vedamento do túbulo dentinário ou da dessensibilização das terminações nervosas periodontoblásticas dentro de cada túbulo. O objetivo do nosso trabalho foi avaliar o poder de obliteração e a durabilidade de produtos obliteradores para o tratamento da hipersensibilidade dentinária. Cinquenta (50) terceiros molares hígidos, foram preparados de modo a expor túbulos dentianários da região cervical, logo abaixo da junção cemento-esmalte e divididos aleatoriamente em cinco grupos CL: Selante autoadesivo (3M ESPE CLINPRO XT) (n=10), TM: Fosfato de cálcio (TEETHMATE DESENSITIZER KURARAY NORITAKE DENTAL INC.) (n=10), GL: Glutaraldeído 5% (GLUMA DESENSITIZER HERAEUS®) (n=10), NP: Fosfato de cálcio nano estruturado (NANO P FGM®) (n=10), PL: Oxalato de Potássio 5% (PAINLESS). Foram submetidos ao tratamento e posteriormente a desafios com ácido hidroclorídrico e escovação, para simular a cavidade oral, em pacientes portadores da doença do refluxo gastroesofágico. As análises foram realizadas por meio de contagem e perímetro dos túbulos, rugosidade de superfície e variação de volume, altura e degrau vertical utilizando microscópio confocal a laser, para avaliar a capacidade de obliteração dos produtos e a estabilidade após os desafios ácidos e de escovação. The objective of this clinical study was to determine the effect of adding desensitizing agents in homemade experimental whitening gel Carbamide peroxide 16%. 60 young patients were selected (between 18-28 years), who used randomly (by lottery) the whitening gel DA (with desensitizing agent) or whitening gel CO (without desensitizing agent) characterized as control of a double-blind study, ie the patient and the evaluator did not know the product that was being used. Teeth 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 were bleached. The guidelines of how to apply the bleaching agents were performed by an experienced and calibrated team, and the application accompanied by examiners in several phases. To measure the color we used a Visual Range Vita Classical through visual inspection by the evaluators and patient information. A comparative test regarding each individual stimulation caused by mechanical attrition and thermal probe with clinical test was done (air syringe) in order to verify the presence of sensitivity in three phases: before treatment, after 7 and 14 days. Data were collected using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) adapted to four criteria: no pain, mild pain, moderate pain and severe pain. The correlation of the data x teeth sensitivity were obtained separately, and tabulated for further comparative analysis. The results showed that there was no difference between the groups in terms of bleaching effect. In the post-operative sensitivity test, the subjects who used the product without desensitizing showed higher levels of sensitivity in different types of teeth, regardless of sex or age. It was concluded that the addition of desensitizing agent in the carbamide peroxide 16% whitening gel produced less post-bleaching sensitivity index. We emphasize that from the teeth evaluated, the premolars showed higher sensitivity index, followed by the canines and incisors. There was no difference in the bleaching capacity of the products used, demonstrating that the addition of desensitizing did not affect the efficacy of the treatment.
