El artículo da cuenta del proyecto de innovacióndocente llevado a cabo durante el curso 2020-2021 en los estudios de Grado en Educación Infantil y Primaria de la Universidad de las Islas Baleares, concretamente en las asignaturas de Pensamiento y contextos educativos contemporáneos y Fundamentos de la Educación Musical. El objetivo fundamental era aproximar al alumnado a nuestro pasado educativo más reciente, desde una perspectiva experiencial y vivencial próxima, a través de testimonios orales, trabajando la evolución de la escuela y la innovación pedagógica en la educación infantil y primaria desde la perspectiva de sus protagonistas (alumnado y profesorado).

Abstract

The TESS mission searches for transiting exoplanets by monitoring the brightness of hundreds of thousands of stars across the entire sky. M-type planet hosts are ideal targets for this mission due to their smaller size and cooler temperatures, which makes it easier to detect smaller planets near or within their habitable zones. Additionally, M~dwarfs have a smaller contrast ratio between the planet and the star, making it easier to measure the planet's properties accurately. Here, we report the validation analysis of 13 TESS exoplanet candidates orbiting around M dwarfs. We studied the nature of these candidates through a multi-colour transit photometry transit analysis using several ground-based instruments (MuSCAT2, MuSCAT3, and LCO-SINISTRO), high-spatial resolution observations, and TESS light curves. We present the validation of five new planetary systems: TOI-1883b, TOI-2274b, TOI2768b, TOI-4438b, and TOI-5319b, along with compelling evidence of a planetary nature for TOIs 2781b and 5486b. We also present an empirical definition for the Neptune desert boundaries. The remaining six systems could not be validated due to large true radius values overlapping with the brown dwarf regime or, alternatively, the presence of chromaticity in the MuSCAT2 light curves.

Abstract

Recent discoveries of Earth-sized planets transiting nearby M dwarfs have made it possible to characterize the atmospheres of terrestrial planets via follow-up spectroscopic observations. However, the number of such planets receiving low insolation is still small, limiting our ability to understand the diversity of the atmospheric composition and climates of temperate terrestrial planets. We report the discovery of an Earth-sized planet transiting the nearby (12 pc) inactive M3.0 dwarf Gliese 12 (TOI-6251) with an orbital period ($P_{\rm{orb}}$) of 12.76 days. The planet, Gliese 12b, was initially identified as a candidate with an ambiguous $P_{\rm{orb}}$ from TESS data. We confirmed the transit signal and $P_{\rm{orb}}$ using ground-based photometry with MuSCAT2 and MuSCAT3, and validated the planetary nature of the signal using high-resolution images from Gemini/NIRI and Keck/NIRC2 as well as radial velocity (RV) measurements from the InfraRed Doppler instrument on the Subaru 8.2 m telescope and from CARMENES on the CAHA 3.5 m telescope. X-ray observations with XMM-Newton showed the host star is inactive, with an X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratio of $\log L_{\rm X}/L_{\rm bol} \approx -5.7$. Joint analysis of the light curves and RV measurements revealed that Gliese 12b has a radius of 0.96 $\pm$ 0.05 $R_\oplus$, a 3$\sigma$ mass upper limit of 3.9 $M_\oplus$, and an equilibrium temperature of 315 $\pm$ 6 K assuming zero albedo. The transmission spectroscopy metric (TSM) value of Gliese 12b is close to the TSM values of the TRAPPIST-1 planets, adding Gliese 12b to the small list of potentially terrestrial, temperate planets amenable to atmospheric characterization with JWST., Comment: 29 pages (20 pages in main body), 13 figures (10 figures in main body). Abstract

Sub-Neptunes with $2-3R_\oplus$ are intermediate in size between rocky planets and Neptune-sized planets. The orbital properties and bulk compositions of transiting sub-Neptunes provide clues to the formation and evolution of close-in small planets. In this paper, we present the discovery and follow-up of four sub-Neptunes orbiting M dwarfs (TOI-782, TOI-1448, TOI-2120, and TOI-2406), three of which were newly validated by ground-based follow-up observations and statistical analyses. TOI-782 b, TOI-1448 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b have radii of $R_\mathrm{p} = 2.740^{+0.082}_{-0.079}\,R_\oplus$, $2.769^{+0.073}_{-0.068}\,R_\oplus$, $2.120\pm0.067\,R_\oplus$, and $2.830^{+0.068}_{-0.066}\,R_\oplus$ and orbital periods of $P = 8.02$, $8.11$, $5.80$, and $3.08$\,days, respectively. Doppler monitoring with Subaru/InfraRed Doppler instrument led to 2$\sigma$ upper limits on the masses of $<19.1\ M_\oplus$, $<19.5\ M_\oplus$, $<6.8\ M_\oplus$, and $<15.6\ M_\oplus$ for TOI-782 b, TOI-1448 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b, respectively. The mass-radius relationship of these four sub-Neptunes testifies to the existence of volatile material in their interiors. These four sub-Neptunes, which are located above the so-called ``radius valley'', are likely to retain a significant atmosphere and/or an icy mantle on the core, such as a water world. We find that at least three of the four sub-Neptunes (TOI-782 b, TOI-2120 b, and TOI-2406 b) orbiting M dwarfs older than 1 Gyr, are likely to have eccentricities of $e \sim 0.2-0.3$. The fact that tidal circularization of their orbits is not achieved over 1 Gyr suggests inefficient tidal dissipation in their interiors., Comment: Accepted for publication in AJ, 32 pages, 17 figures, 6 tables

Abstract

We report the confirmation and mass determination of a mini-Neptune transiting the M3.5 V star TOI-4438 (G 182-34) every 7.44 days. A transit signal was detected with NASA's TESS space mission in the sectors 40, 52, and 53. In order to validate the planet TOI-4438 b and to determine the system properties, we combined TESS data with high-precision radial velocity measurements from the CARMENES spectrograph, spanning almost one year, and ground-based transit photometry. We found that TOI-4438 b has a radius of Rb = 2.52 +/- 0.13 R_Earth (5% precision), which together with a mass of Mb=5.4 +/- 1.1 M_Earth (20% precision), results in a bulk density of rho = 1.85+0.51-0.44 g cm-3 (28% precision), aligning the discovery with a volatile-rich planet. Our interior structure retrieval with a pure water envelope yields a minimum water mass fraction of 46% (1-sigma). TOI-4438 b is a volatile-rich mini-Neptune with likely H/He mixed with molecules, such as water, CO_2, and CH_4. The primary star has a J-band magnitude of 9.7, and the planet has a high transmission spectroscopy metric (TSM) of 136 +/- 13. Taking into account the relatively warm equilibrium temperature of T_eq = 435 +/- 15 K, and the low activity level of its host star, TOI-4438 b is one of the most promising mini-Neptunes around an M dwarf for transmission spectroscopy studies., Comment: Accepted for publication on Astronomy & Astrophysics

Abstract

The maned wolf is a South American canid considered a keystone species of the Cerrado. We performed a genetic assessment of maned wolves that inhabit a small remnant fragment of the Cerrado in Brazil. We collected 84 fecal samples over a year and also included two tissue samples from road–killed animals. We successfully identified the species, sex, and individuals using molecular markers. Using microsatellite loci analysis we identified 13 different individuals, eight females and five males. The genetic variability level found and the high number of individuals detected indicates the presence of an open population.

Abstract

Planets with orbital periods shorter than 1 day are rare and have formation histories that are not completely understood. Small ($R_\mathrm{p} < 2\; R_\oplus$) ultra-short-period (USP) planets are highly irradiated, probably have rocky compositions with high bulk densities, and are often found in multi-planet systems. Additionally, USP planets found around small stars are excellent candidates for characterization using present-day instrumentation. Of the current full sample of approximately 5500 confirmed exoplanets, only 130 are USP planets and around 40 have mass and radius measurements. Wolf 327 (TOI-5747) is an M dwarf ($R_\star = 0.406 \pm 0.015 \; R_\odot$, $M_\star = 0.405 \pm 0.019 \; M_\odot$, $T_{\mathrm{eff}}=3542 \pm 70$ K, and $V = 13$ mag) located at a distance $d = 28.5$ pc. NASA's planet hunter satellite, TESS, detected transits in this star with a period of 0.573 d (13.7 h) and with a transit depth of 818 ppm. Ground-based follow-up photometry, high resolution imaging, and radial velocity (RV) measurements taken with the CARMENES spectrograph confirm the presence of this new USP planet. Wolf 327b is a super-Earth with a radius of $R_\mathrm{p} = 1.24 \pm 0.06 \; R_\oplus$ and a mass of $M_\mathrm{p} = 2.53 \pm 0.46 \; M_\oplus$, yielding a bulk density of $7.24 \pm 1.66 $\,g cm$^{-3}$ and thus suggesting a rocky composition. Owing to its close proximity to its host star ($a = 0.01$ au), Wolf 327b has an equilibrium temperature of $996 \pm 22$ K. This planet has a mass and radius similar to K2-229b, a planet with an inferred Mercury-like internal composition. Planet interior models suggest that Wolf 327b has a large iron core, a small rocky mantle, and a negligible (if any) H/He atmosphere., Comment: 26 pages, 19 figures. Accepted for publication in A&A

Abstract

The Extreme Universe Space Observatory on a Super Pressure Balloon 1 (EUSO-SPB1) was launched in 2017 April from Wanaka, New Zealand. The plan of this mission of opportunity on a NASA super pressure balloon test flight was to circle the southern hemisphere. The primary scientific goal was to make the first observations of ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray extensive air showers (EASs) by looking down on the atmosphere with an ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence telescope from suborbital altitude (33~km). After 12~days and 4~hours aloft, the flight was terminated prematurely in the Pacific Ocean. Before the flight, the instrument was tested extensively in the West Desert of Utah, USA, with UV point sources and lasers. The test results indicated that the instrument had sensitivity to EASs of approximately 3 EeV. Simulations of the telescope system, telescope on time, and realized flight trajectory predicted an observation of about 1 event assuming clear sky conditions. The effects of high clouds were estimated to reduce this value by approximately a factor of 2. A manual search and a machine-learning-based search did not find any EAS signals in these data. Abstract

Two quintuple layers of strong topological insulator Bi2Se3 are coupled by a Bi bilayer in BiSe crystal. We investigated its electronic structure using angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to study its topological nature. Dirac like linearly dispersive surface state bands are observed on the 001 surface of BiSe and Sb doped BiSe, similar to Bi2Se3. Moreover, the lower part of the SSBs buries deep in the bulk valence band. Overlap region between the SSBs and BVB is large in Sb doped system and the SSBs deviate from the Dirac like linear dispersion in this region. These results highlight the role of interlayer coupling between the Bi bilayer and the Bi2Se3 QLs. Furthermore, we observed a large intensity imbalance in the SSBs located at the positive and negative k parallel directions. This asymmetry pattern gradually reverses as the excitation energy scans from low 14eV to high 34eV value. However, we did not observe signal of surface magnetization resulting from the intensity imbalance in SSBs due to hole-generated uncompensated spin accumulation in the photoexcitation process. The main reason for this could be the faster relaxation process for photo hole due to the presence of the Bi bilayer between the adjacent Bi2Se3 QLs. The observed photon energy dependent intensity variation could be a signature of the mixing between the spin and the orbit texture of the SSBs.

Abstract

Among the technologies involved on Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse and OLAP have been widely used to identify, collect, process, integrate and analyze information for decision making, thus promoting business management. Data stored in a data warehouse used by conventional OLAP systems is structured in nature. However, data such as text documents, images and videos, characterized as semi or unstructured data, may also contain information of great value to business. In this context, we applied the systematic review methodology with the purpose of identifying, extracting and summarizing the main research results focused on the integration of unstructured data in data warehouse environments. We identified forty two studies which studies were classified in order to identify ongoing research subjects and potential gaps as future trends.

Abstract

A new powerful longitudinal diagnostics is being developed for the two CERN's antiproton machines, the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) and the Extra Low ENergy ANtiproton (ELENA) ring. The longitudinal diagnostics receives data from the Low-Level Radiofrequency (LLRF) system via optical fiber. Real time processing of gigabit data-streams is enabled by its computational resources and real-time operating system. Measurement of intensity, bunch length and turn-by-turn bunch profiles are available for bunched beams. Intensity, momentum spread and average frequency will soon be measured for debunched beams. The system will provide essential input to setup and monitor RF and cooling systems. It will also be used by operators to monitor each machine's performances and the overall efficiency of the antiproton chain. This paper shows the data acquisition/processing mechanism and preliminary bunched beam results for AD. Abstract

BackgroundDysfunction or loss of limbal stem cells can result in limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD), a disease that cause corneal opacity, pain, and loss of vision. Cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation (CLET) can be used to restore stem cell niche homeostasis and replenish the progenitor pool. Transplantation has been reported with high success rate, but there is an unmet need of prognostic markers that correlate with clinical outcomes. To date, the progenitor content in the graft is the only parameter that has been retrospectively linked to success.MethodsIn this study, we investigate extracellular micro RNAs (miRNAs) associated with stem/progenitor cells in cultivated limbal epithelial cells (cLECs). Using micro RNA sequencing and linear regression modelling, we identify a miRNA signature in cultures containing high proportion of stem/progenitor cells. We then develop a robust RNA extraction workflow from culture media to confirm a positive miRNA correlation with stem/progenitor cell proportion.ResultsmiR-6723-5p is associated with cultures containing high proportion of stem/progenitor cells, and is detected in the basal layer of corneal epithelium.ConclusionsThese results indicate that miR-6723-5p could potentially serve as a stem/progenitor cell marker in cLECs.

Abstract

Gravitationally lensed supernovae (LSNe) are important probes of cosmic expansion, but they remain rare and difficult to find. Current cosmic surveys likely contain and 5-10 LSNe in total while next-generation experiments are expected to contain several hundreds to a few thousands of these systems. We search for these systems in observed Dark Energy Survey (DES) 5-year SN fields -- 10 3-sq. deg. regions of sky imaged in the $griz$ bands approximately every six nights over five years. To perform the search, we utilize the DeepZipper approach: a multi-branch deep learning architecture trained on image-level simulations of LSNe that simultaneously learns spatial and temporal relationships from time series of images. We find that our method obtains a LSN recall of 61.13% and a false positive rate of 0.02% on the DES SN field data. DeepZipper selected 2,245 candidates from a magnitude-limited ($m_i$ $<$ 22.5) catalog of 3,459,186 systems. However, there is a clinical need to automate the real-time measurement of diuresis using Internet of Medical Things devices, allowing continuous monitoring of urine flow. A systematic review of scientific literature, patents, and available commercial products was conducted, leading to the conclusion that there is no suitable device to fulfill this need. We identified six characteristics that such a device should possess: minimizing contact with urine, detecting changes in flow patterns, the ability to record minute-by-minute data, capable of sending early alerts, not relying on exclusive disposable components, and being user-friendly for clinical professionals. Additionally, cost-effectiveness is crucial, encompassing the device, infrastructure, maintenance, and usage. Plain Language Summary: Continuous monitoring of urinary output in intensive care patients provides vital insights, potentially revealing low cardiac output, renal hypoperfusion, or deteriorating renal function. Currently, these measurements are done manually, prompting a need for automated, real-time monitoring using Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices. Current automatic urinometers are not widely used due to high costs, maintenance requirements, and logistical complications. However, we propose developing an affordable, updated urinometer that meets clinician needs and can be widely used in hospitals.This innovation would enable early intervention strategies to reverse or improve renal perfusion and prevent potential toxic treatments. The shift from manual to automated monitoring is likely, facilitating real-time data integration such as blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature. This can lead to personalized medical approaches and predictive algorithms for renal function deterioration.As technology, IoMT, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) evolve, these advancements will be indispensable for hospital medicine, supporting precision medicine and efficient clinical operation. While we cannot predict the definitive method for continuous diuresis measurement, we anticipate the adoption of these technologies in the near future, improving diagnostics and clinical practice. Abstract

Large-scale astronomical surveys have the potential to capture data on large numbers of strongly gravitationally lensed supernovae (LSNe). To facilitate timely analysis and spectroscopic follow-up before the supernova fades, an LSN needs to be identified soon after it begins. To quickly identify LSNe in optical survey datasets, we designed ZipperNet, a multi-branch deep neural network that combines convolutional layers (traditionally used for images) with long short-term memory (LSTM) layers (traditionally used for time series). We tested ZipperNet on the task of classifying objects from four categories -- no lens, galaxy-galaxy lens, lensed type Ia supernova, lensed core-collapse supernova -- within high-fidelity simulations of three cosmic survey data sets -- the Dark Energy Survey (DES), Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), and a Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) imaging survey. Among our results, we find that for the LSST-like dataset, ZipperNet classifies LSNe with a receiver operating characteristic area under the curve of 0.97, predicts the spectroscopic type of the lensed supernovae with 79\% accuracy, and demonstrates similarly high performance for LSNe 1-2 epochs after first detection. We anticipate that a model like ZipperNet, which simultaneously incorporates spatial and temporal information, can play a significant role in the rapid identification of lensed transient systems in cosmic survey experiments., Comment: Published in ApJ

Abstract

We present LMT/AzTEC 1.1mm observations of $\sim100$ luminous high-redshift dusty star-forming galaxy candidates from the $\sim600\,$sq.deg $Herschel$-ATLAS survey, selected on the basis of their SPIRE red far-infrared colours and with $S_{500\mu\rm m}=35-80$ mJy. With an effective $\theta_{\rm FWHM}\approx9.5\,$ arcsec angular resolution, our observations reveal that at least 9 per cent of the targets break into multiple systems with SNR $\geq 4$ members. The fraction of multiple systems increases to $\sim23\,$ per cent (or more) if some non-detected targets are considered multiples, as suggested by the data. Combining the new AzTEC and deblended $Herschel$ photometry we derive photometric redshifts, IR luminosities, and star formation rates. While the median redshifts of the multiple and single systems are similar $(z_{\rm med}\approx3.6)$, the redshift distribution of the latter is skewed towards higher redshifts. Of the AzTEC sources $\sim85\,$ per cent lie at $z_{\rm phot}>3$ while $\sim33\,$ per cent are at $z_{\rm phot}>4$. Abstract

Frequency Response Functions (FRFs) are one of the cornerstones of musical acoustic experimental research. They describe the way in which musical instruments vibrate in a wide range of frequencies and are used to predict and understand the acoustic differences between them. In the specific case of stringed musical instruments such as violins, FRFs evaluated at the bridge are known to capture the overall body vibration. These indicators, also called bridge admittances, are widely used in the literature for comparative analyses. However, due to their complex structure they are rather difficult to quantitatively compare and study. In this manuscript we present a way to quantify differences between FRFs, in particular violin bridge admittances, that separates the effects in frequency, amplitude and quality factor of the first resonance peaks characterizing the responses. This approach allows us to define a distance between FRFs and clusterise measurements according to this distance. We use two case studies, one based on Finite Element Analysis and another exploiting measurements on real violins, to prove the effectiveness of such representation. In particular, for simulated bridge admittances the proposed distance is able to highlight the different impact of consecutive simulation `steps' on specific vibrational properties and, for real violins, gives a first insight on similar styles of making, as well as opposite ones., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, submitted to "The 27th International Congress on Sound and Vibration" (ICSV)

Abstract

High-temperature superconducting cuprates exhibit an intriguing phenomenology for the low-energy elementary excitations. In particular, an unconventional temperature dependence of the coherent spectral weight (CSW) has been observed in the superconducting phase by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), both at the antinode where the d-wave paring gap is maximum, as well as along the gapless nodal direction. Here, we combine equilibrium and time-resolved ARPES to track the temperature dependent meltdown of the nodal CSW in Bi-based cuprates with unprecedented sensitivity. We find the nodal suppression of CSW upon increasing temperature to be ubiquitous across single- and double-layer Bi cuprates, and uncorrelated to superconducting and pseudogap onset temperatures. We quantitatively model both the lineshape of the nodal spectral features and the anomalous suppression of CSW within the Fermi-Liquid framework, establishing the key role played by the normal state electrodynamics in the description of nodal quasiparticles in superconducting cuprates., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures; Supplementary Materials available upon request

Abstract

The long-term brightness evolution of the great comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) presented a remarkable opportunity to study the behavior of its coma over four years. We used approximately 2200 total visual magnitudes published in the International Comet Quarterly taken from 17 observers during the period of 1995 July - 1999 September to create a secular lightcurve. In order to account for observer differences, we present a novel algorithm to reduce scatter and increase precision in a lightcurve compiled from many sources. It is implemented in a publicly available code, ICQSPLITTER. This code addresses the differences among observers by using a self-consistent statistical approach, leading to a sharper lightcurve, and improving the precision of the measured slopes. To first order, the comet's lightcurve approximately follows a r$^{-4}$ response for both pre- and post-perihelion distances. Interestingly, the pre-perihelion data are better fit with a fifth-order polynomial with inflection points at 4.0, 2.6, 2.1 and 1.1 au. We analyze these specific regions and find that they are associated with physical phenomena in the comet's evolution. Contrary to other reports, the lightcurve shows no evidence for the comet having been in outburst at discovery. Afrho values derived from the visual lightcurve data are consistent with a r$^{-1.5}$ dependence on heliocentric distance, which is similar in shape to those derived from spectroscopy and narrow-band photometry. We present correlation equations for visual magnitudes and CO and H2O production rates, which are consistent with the pre-perihelion visual magnitudes increasing almost entirely due to CO outgassing until a heliocentric distance of about 2.6 - 3.0 au. We also present two correlation equations that should prove highly useful for observation planning and data analysis, and can be generalized to be applicable to other comets., Comment: 30 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables, submitted to the AAS Journals

Abstract

EUSO-Balloon is a pathfinder mission for the Extreme Universe Space Observatory onboard the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM-EUSO). It was launched on the moonless night of the 25$^{th}$ of August 2014 from Timmins, Canada. The flight ended successfully after maintaining the target altitude of 38 km for five hours. One part of the mission was a 2.5 hour underflight using a helicopter equipped with three UV light sources (LED, xenon flasher and laser) to perform an inflight calibration and examine the detectors capability to measure tracks moving at the speed of light. We describe the helicopter laser system and details of the underflight as well as how the laser tracks were recorded and found in the data. These are the first recorded laser tracks measured from a fluorescence detector looking down on the atmosphere. Finally, we present a first reconstruction of the direction of the laser tracks relative to the detector., Comment: 18 pages, 14 figures

Abstract

It has been shown that self-assembled chains of active colloidal particles can present sustained oscillations. These oscillations are possible because of the effective diffusiophoretic forces that mediate the interactions of colloids do not respect the action--reaction principle and hence, a Hopf bifurcation is possible even for overdamped dynamics. Anchoring the particles in one extreme breaks the head-tail symmetry and the oscillation is transformed into a traveling wave pattern and thus the chain behaves like a beating cilium. The net force on the anchor, estimated using the resistive force theory, vanishes before the bifurcation and thereafter grows linearly with the bifurcation parameter. If the mobilities of the particles on one extreme are reduced to mimic an elongated cargo, the traveling wave generates a net velocity on the chain that now behaves like a moving flagellum. The average velocity again grows linearly with the bifurcation parameter. Our results demonstrate that simplified systems, consisting only of a few particles with non-reciprocal interaction and head-tail asymmetry show beating motion and self-propulsion. Both properties are present in many non-equilibrium models thus making our results a general feature of active matter.

An investigation was conducted to determine whether the measurements of stereoacuity obtained with the stereoacuity reference test (TNO Test) show an agreement with a computer stereoscope video game.Methods: Thirty-two subjects (mean age 9.37± 2.00 years) with an amblyopia history were selected for a blind and randomized study of stereoacuity improvement through a new random dot game. A masked examiner measured the stereoacuity three times per subject using the TNO test (at the beginning, at the end and after 6 months of the treatment). A second masked examiner measured stereoacuity using the new computerized game after the TNO masked evaluation.Results: The Pearson’s correlation coefficient one test against the other was r2 = 0.767 and the Bland–Altman plot was r2= 0.069 (mean difference − 0.03 log sec). Using three categories: poor (840– 300 seconds of arc), coarse (480– 210 seconds of arc) and moderate–fine stereoacuity (210– 30 seconds of arc). Positive predictive values were 89.5% for moderate–fine; 72.7% for coarse; and 90.0% for poor stereoacuity. In addition, the agreement was evaluated using the Kappa coefficient (K= 0.743) with a 0.95 confidence interval and lower and upper Kappa limits were (0.628 and 0.858), respectively. Kappa coefficient and limits were still good when analyzing data before (K =0.663, 0.420 and 0.906) and after the treatment (K= 0.765, 0.632 and 0.899).Conclusion: The Computerized Stereoscopic Game test allows the measure of stereoacuity. Abstract

Las actuaciones previstas en el ámbito de las ramblas mineras que desembocan en el Mar Menor (Región de Murcia) están incluidas en el programa de medidas del PGRI de la Demarcación del Segura, son compatibles con las establecidas en la Directiva Marco del Agua y con la Estrategia de la Comisión Europea sobre Infraestructura Verde. Estas actuaciones están declaradas de interés general del Estado. La solución de cada medida se ha planteado con el compromiso del equilibrio entre minimizar el impacto de las inundaciones, evitar al máximo posible la contaminación de la laguna y del acuífero y recuperar las dinámicas naturales, cumpliendo con los objetivos operativos del Marco de Actuaciones Prioritarias para recuperar el Mar Menor. Por este motivo, el análisis de viabilidad realizado ha incluido los beneficios que producen estas actuaciones frente al riesgo de inundación y la contaminación por metales del Mar Menor evitados.

Abstract

Debido a las condiciones climatológicas, geomorfológicas y a la antropización de las cuencas, la identificación de aquellos álveos o cauces naturales sobre los cuales se delimita el dominio público hidráulico no siempre resulta sencilla en todos los territorios. Por este motivo es necesario disponer de un inventario de cauces que permita diferenciarlos o distinguirlos de otros tipos de vías de escorrentía o flujos de agua, según indica el borrador de la modificación del RDPH. El MITERD ha impulsado la redacción de una guía técnica que proporcione las herramientas para la identificación de los cauces y su diferenciación de otras vías de escorrentía en zonas complejas, donde el conjunto de la red de drenajes está formado por vaguadas, cañadas, canales y encauzamientos, además de los cauces naturales. Con ella se pretende facilitar la labor a las Administraciones Públicas competentes y de forma muy significativa a la Administración hidráulica.

Abstract

En los últimos 5 años se ha producido un cambio sustancial en los datos de partida y en la manera de construir los modelos hidrológicos. Para dos casos de estudio: (i) el análisis de la DANA 2019, en las vegas media y baja del río Segura y (ii) la determinación de los caudales de avenida de los tramos ARPSI y las principales ramblas de la cuenca de la rambla de Viznaga, se han elaborado modelos hidrológicos contando con información relevante de dos avenidas de gran magnitud, cartografía LiDAR y simulaciones hidráulicas de detalle de la zona de estudio. En ambos casos se confirma que en cuencas de ríos con marcada componente bidimensional en las que se generan brazos secundarios, los modelos hidráulicos bidimensionales arrojan información relevante y complementaria sobre la dinámica de los flujos que permiten desarrollar modelos hidrológicos semidistribuidos complejos más próximos a la realidad del terreno.

Abstract

The Extreme Universe Space Observatory on a Super Pressure Balloon 1 (EUSO-SPB1) was launched in 2017 April from Wanaka, New Zealand. The plan of this mission of opportunity on a NASA super pressure balloon test flight was to circle the southern hemisphere. The primary scientific goal was to make the first observations of ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray extensive air showers (EASs) by looking down on the atmosphere with an ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence telescope from suborbital altitude (33 km). After 12 days and 4 h aloft, the flight was terminated prematurely in the Pacific Ocean. Before the flight, the instrument was tested extensively in the West Desert of Utah, USA, with UV point sources and lasers. The test results indicated that the instrument had sensitivity to EASs of EeV. Simulations of the telescope system, telescope on time, and realized flight trajectory predicted an observation of about 1 event assuming clear sky conditions. The effects of high clouds were estimated to reduce this value by approximately a factor of 2. A manual search and a machine-learning-based search did not find any EAS signals in these data. Here we review the EUSO-SPB1 instrument and flight and the EAS search.

Abstract

A major goal of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is to make accurate images with resolutions of tens of milliarcseconds, which at submillimeter (submm) wavelengths requires baselines up to ~15 km. To develop and test this capability, a Long Baseline Campaign (LBC) was carried out from September to late November 2014, culminating in end-to-end observations, calibrations, and imaging of selected Science Verification (SV) targets. This paper presents an overview of the campaign and its main results, including an investigation of the short-term coherence properties and systematic phase errors over the long baselines at the ALMA site, a summary of the SV targets and observations, and recommendations for science observing strategies at long baselines. Deep ALMA images of the quasar 3C138 at 97 and 241 GHz are also compared to VLA 43 GHz results, demonstrating an agreement at a level of a few percent. As a result of the extensive program of LBC testing, the highly successful SV imaging at long baselines achieved angular resolutions as fine as 19 mas at ~350 GHz. Abstract

We present initial results of very high resolution Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of the $z$=3.042 gravitationally lensed galaxy HATLAS J090311.6+003906 (SDP.81). These observations were carried out using a very extended configuration as part of Science Verification for the 2014 ALMA Long Baseline Campaign, with baselines of up to 15 km. We present continuum imaging at 151, 236 and 290 GHz, at unprecedented angular resolutions as fine as 23 milliarcseconds (mas), corresponding to an un-magnified spatial scale of ~180 pc at z=3.042. The ALMA images clearly show two main gravitational arc components of an Einstein ring, with emission tracing a radius of ~1.5". We also present imaging of CO(10-9), CO(8-7), CO(5-4) and H2O line emission. The CO emission, at an angular resolution of ~170 mas, is found to broadly trace the gravitational arc structures but with differing morphologies between the CO transitions and compared to the dust continuum. Our detection of H2O line emission, using only the shortest baselines, provides the most resolved detection to date of thermal H2O emission in an extragalactic source. The ALMA continuum and spectral line fluxes are consistent with previous Plateau de Bure Interferometer and Submillimeter Array observations despite the impressive increase in angular resolution. Finally, we detect weak unresolved continuum emission from a position that is spatially coincident with the center of the lens, with a spectral index that is consistent with emission from the core of the foreground lensing galaxy., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures and 3 tables, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal Letters

Abstract

We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) 1.3 mm continuum images of the asteroid 3 Juno obtained with an angular resolution of 0.042 arcseconds (60 km at 1.97 AU). The data were obtained over a single 4.4 hr interval, which covers 60% of the 7.2 hr rotation period, approximately centered on local transit. A sequence of ten consecutive images reveals continuous changes in the asteroid's profile and apparent shape, in good agreement with the sky projection of the three-dimensional model of the Database of Asteroid Models from Inversion Techniques. We measure a geometric mean diameter of 259pm4 km, in good agreement with past estimates from a variety of techniques and wavelengths. Due to the viewing angle and inclination of the rotational pole, the southern hemisphere dominates all of the images. The median peak brightness temperature is 215pm13 K, while the median over the whole surface is 197pm15 K. With the unprecedented resolution of ALMA, we find that the brightness temperature varies across the surface with higher values correlated to the subsolar point and afternoon areas, and lower values beyond the evening terminator. The dominance of the subsolar point is accentuated in the final four images, suggesting a reduction in the thermal inertia of the regolith at the corresponding longitudes, which are possibly correlated to the location of the putative large impact crater. These results demonstrate ALMA's potential to resolve thermal emission from the surface of main belt asteroids, and to measure accurately their position, geometric shape, rotational period, and soil characteristics., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal Letters

Abstract

We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations from the 2014 Long Baseline Campaign in dust continuum and spectral line emission from the HL Tau region. The continuum images at wavelengths of 2.9, 1.3, and 0.87 mm have unprecedented angular resolutions of 0.075 arcseconds (10 AU) to 0.025 arcseconds (3.5 AU), revealing an astonishing level of detail in the circumstellar disk surrounding the young solar analogue HL Tau, with a pattern of bright and dark rings observed at all wavelengths. By fitting ellipses to the most distinct rings, we measure precise values for the disk inclination (46.72pm0.05 degrees) and position angle (+138.02pm0.07 degrees). We obtain a high-fidelity image of the 1.0 mm spectral index ($\alpha$), which ranges from $\alpha\sim2.0$ in the optically-thick central peak and two brightest rings, increasing to 2.3-3.0 in the dark rings. The dark rings are not devoid of emission, we estimate a grain emissivity index of 0.8 for the innermost dark ring and lower for subsequent dark rings, consistent with some degree of grain growth and evolution. Additional clues that the rings arise from planet formation include an increase in their central offsets with radius and the presence of numerous orbital resonances. At a resolution of 35 AU, we resolve the molecular component of the disk in HCO+ (1-0) which exhibits a pattern over LSR velocities from 2-12 km/s consistent with Keplerian motion around a ~1.3 solar mass star, although complicated by absorption at low blue-shifted velocities.
