- Abstract
Sesquiterpene pyridine alkaloids (SPAs), as a main class of components in Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f., possess a variety of bioactivities, such as immunosuppressive, insecticidal, and anti-tumor activities. SPAs can be structurally classed into four subtypes: wilfordate-, evoninate-, iso-wilfordate-, and iso-evoninate types. Our previous study unveiled ten new wilfordate-type SPAs, named wilfordatine A-J, isolated from the roots of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f., several of which exhibited significant immunosuppressive activities. As an extension and augmentation of the previous findings, we have now isolated one new iso-wilfordate-type SPA, wilfordatine K ( 1 ), alongside three new iso-evoninate-type SPAs, wilfordatines L-N ( 3 - 5 ), and six known analogs. Their structures were characterized by the extensive use of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis, as well as HRMS data. Interestingly, compounds 4 and 6 were found to exhibit potent inhibitory effects on the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced HEK293/NF-κB-Luc cells, with IC
50 values of 1.64 μM and 9.05 μM, respectively. Notably, these two compounds had no influence on the cell viability at a concentration of 100 μM. Consequently, they hold significant promise as potential anti-inflammatory candidates for further exploration and development.- Published

4. 3-O-Methyl-D-Glucose Blunts Cold Ischemia Damage in Kidney via Inhibiting Ferroptosis.

- Abstract
Background: The glucose derivative 3-O-methyl-D-glucose (OMG) is used as a cryoprotectant in freezing cells. However, its protective role and the related mechanism in static cold storage (CS) of organs are unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of OMG on cod ischemia damage in cold preservation of donor kidney., Methods: Pretreatment of OMG on kidney was performed in an isolated renal cold storage model in rats. LDH activity in renal efflux was used to evaluate the cellular damage. Indicators including iron levels, mitochondrial damage, MDA level, and cellular apoptosis were measured. Kidney quality was assessed via a kidney transplantation (KTx) model in rats. The grafted animals were followed up for 7 days. Ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury and inflammatory response were assessed by biochemical and histological analyses., Results: OMG pretreatment alleviated prolonged CS-induced renal damage as evidenced by reduced LDH activities and tubular apoptosis. Kidney with pCS has significantly increased iron, MDA, and TUNEL
+ cells, implying the increased ferroptosis, which has been partly inhibited by OMG. OMG pretreatment has improved the renal function (p <0.05) and prolonged the 7-day survival of the grafting recipients after KTx, as compared to the control group. OMG has significantly decreased inflammation and tubular damage after KTx, as evidenced by CD3-positive cells and TUNEL-positive cells., Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that OMG protected kidney against the prolonged cold ischemia-caused injuries through inhibiting ferroptosis. 5. Dietary resveratrol supplementation on growth performance, immune function and intestinal barrier function in broilers challenged with lipopolysaccharide.

- Abstract
This study discusses the effects of resveratrol (RES) on the productive performance, immune function and intestinal barrier function of broiler chickens challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Two hundred and forty 1-day-old male Arbor Acres broilers were randomly divided into 4 groups of 6 replicates each, with 10 broilers per replicate. This experiment used a 2 × 2 factorial design with dietary factors (basal diets or basal diets supplemented with 400 mg/kg RES were administered from d 1 to 21) and stress factors (intraperitoneal injection of 0.5 mg/kg BW of saline or LPS at 16, 18 and 20 d of age). The results showed that LPS challenge had a significant adverse effect on average daily gain (ADG) in broilers at 16 to 21 d of age (P < 0.05), whereas the addition of RES to the diet inhibited the LPS-induced decrease in ADG (P < 0.05). RES also alleviated LPS-induced immune function damage in broilers, which was manifested by the decrease of spleen index (P < 0.05) and the recovery of serum immunoglobulin M and ileal secretory immunoglobulin A content (P < 0.05). The LPS challenge also disrupts intestinal barrier function and inflammation, and RES mitigates these adverse effects in different ways. RES attenuated LPS-induced reduction of villus height in the jejunum and ileum of broilers (P < 0.05). LPS also caused an abnormal increase in plasma D-lactic acid levels in broilers (P < 0.05), which was effectively mitigated by RES (P < 0.05). LPS challenge resulted in a significant decrease in mRNA expression of occludin in the intestinal mucosa (P < 0.05), which was mitigated by the addition of RES (P < 0.05). RES significantly decreased the mRNA expression of toll-like receptor 4, nuclear factor kappa-B and tumor necrosis factor alpha in the ileum tissue stimulated by LPS (P < 0.05). Taken together, this study shows that RES exerts its beneficial effect on broilers challenged with LPS by alleviating immune function damage, relieving intestinal inflammation and barrier damage, and thus improving growth performance., (Copyright © 2023. Catalytic conversion of CO
2 into high value-added chemicals using renewable energy is an attractive strategy for the management of CO2 . However, achieving both efficiency and product selectivity remains a great challenge. Herein, a brand-new family of 1D dual-channel heterowires, Cu NWs@MOFs are constructed by coating metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on Cu nanowires (Cu NWs) for electro-/photocatalytic CO2 reductions, where Cu NWs act as an electron channel to directionally transmit electrons, and the MOF cover acts as a molecule/photon channel to control the products and/or undertake photoelectric conversion. Through changing the type of MOF cover, the 1D heterowire is switched between electrocatalyst and photocatalyst for the reduction of CO2 with excellent selectivity, adjustable products, and the highest stability among the Cu-based CO2 RR catalysts, which leads to heterometallic MOF covered 1D composite, and especially the first 1D/1D-type Mott-Schottky heterojunction. Considering the diversity of MOF materials, the ultrastable heterowires offer a highly promising and feasible solution for CO2 reduction., (© 2023 The Authors. 7. Real-World Utilization, Barriers, and Factors Associated With the Targeted Treatment of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Patients in China: A Multi-Center, Hospital-Based Survey Study.

- Abstract
Objectives: To explore the utilization, barriers, and factors associated with the targeted treatment of Chinese metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients. Methods: A total of 1,688 mCRC patients from 19 hospitals in 14 cities were enrolled from March 2020 to March 2021 using stratified, multistage cluster sampling. The use of targeted therapy and any barriers patients experienced were collected. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the factors associated with initiating targeted treatment. Results: About 51.6% of the patients initiated targeted therapy, of whom 44.5%, 20.2%, and 35.2% started first-, second-, and third-line treatment, respectively. The most reported barriers were high medical costs and a lack of belief in the efficacy of targeted therapy. Patients treated in the general hospital, diagnosed at an older age, less educated, and who had a lower family income, no medical insurance, poor health-related quality of life, metastasis outside the liver/lung or systemic metastasis, a shorter duration of mCRC were less likely to initiate targeted therapy. 8. Highly efficient and stable thermally activated delayed fluorescent palladium(II) complexes for organic light-emitting diodes.

- Abstract
Transition metal complexes exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) remain underdeveloped for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Here, we describe a design of TADF Pd(II) complexes featuring metal-perturbed intraligand charge-transfer excited states. Two orange- and red-emitting complexes with efficiencies of 82 and 89% and lifetimes of 2.19 and 0.97 μs have been developed. Combined transient spectroscopic and theoretical studies on one complex reveal a metal-perturbed fast intersystem crossing process. OLEDs using the Pd(II) complexes show maximum external quantum efficiencies of 27.5 to 31.4% and small roll-offs down to 1% at 1000 cd m
-2 . Moreover, the Pd(II) complexes show exceptional operational stability with LT95 values over 220 hours at 1000 cd m-2 , benefiting from the use of strong σ-donating ligands and the presence of multiple intramolecular noncovalent interactions beside their short emission lifetimes. This study demonstrates a promising approach for developing efficient and robust luminescent complexes without using the third-row transition metals.- Published

10. Excess selenium intake is associated with microalbuminuria in female but not in male among adults with obesity: Results from NHANES 2009-2018.

- Abstract
Introduction: Selenium is a critical trace element with antioxidant activities that has been related to the preservation of kidney function. Few studies, however, have looked at the effects of excess selenium on kidneys. The purpose of the present study was performed to investigate the relationship between dietary selenium intake and the prevalence of microalbuminuria in American adults with obesity., Methods: A total of 8,547 participants with obesity in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) with the age of 19 years or older were included in the present study. Multivariable regression and subgroup analyses were performed to examine the association between dietary selenium and microalbuminuria in the two genders, separately. A selenium intake above the median was defined as high selenium intake., Results: Dietary selenium intake was significantly higher in men compared to women (139.49 μg/day vs. 101.06 μg/day; P < 0.0001). Among female participants, the prevalence of microalbuminuria was significantly higher in participants with a high selenium intake compared with those without a high selenium intake (13.82 vs. 9.96%; P = 0.008), whereas this difference did not exist in male participants (10.79 vs. 11.97%; P = 0.40). - Abstract
Background: Deep-learning-based computer-aided diagnosis (DL-CAD) systems using MRI for prostate cancer (PCa) detection have demonstrated good performance. Nevertheless, DL-CAD systems are vulnerable to high heterogeneities in DWI, which can interfere with DL-CAD assessments and impair performance. This study aims to compare PCa detection of DL-CAD between zoomed-field-of-view echo-planar DWI (z-DWI) and full-field-of-view DWI (f-DWI) and find the risk factors affecting DL-CAD diagnostic efficiency., Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 354 consecutive participants who underwent MRI including T2WI, f-DWI, and z-DWI because of clinically suspected PCa. A DL-CAD was used to compare the performance of f-DWI and z-DWI both on a patient level and lesion level. We used the area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristics analysis and alternative free-response receiver operating characteristics analysis to compare the performances of DL-CAD using f- DWI and z-DWI. The risk factors affecting the DL-CAD were analyzed using logistic regression analyses. P values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant., Results: DL-CAD with z-DWI had a significantly better overall accuracy than that with f-DWI both on patient level and lesion level (AUC
patient : 0.89 vs. 0.86; AUClesion : 0.86 vs. 0.76; P < .001). The contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of lesions in DWI was an independent risk factor of false positives (odds ratio [OR] = 1.12; P < .001). Rectal susceptibility artifacts, lesion diameter, and apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) were independent risk factors of both false positives (ORrectal susceptibility artifact = 5.46; ORdiameter, = 1.12; ORADC = 0.998; all P < .001) and false negatives (ORrectal susceptibility artifact = 3.31; ORdiameter = 0.82; ORADC = 1.007; all P ≤ .03) of DL-CAD., Conclusions: Z-DWI has potential to improve the detection performance of a prostate MRI based DL-CAD., Trial Registration: ChiCTR, NO. - Abstract
Since Costello et al. proposed the concept of pseudocapsule of pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs) in 1936, many studies have been published on its occurrence, development process, histopathology, and morphology. Pseudocapsule has been proposed as the anatomical interface between PitNETs and normal pituitary gland, therefore the so-called pseudocapsule-based extracapsular resection (ER) technique was developed as an extracapsular surgery method for PitNETs,which differs from the conventional intracapsular resection (IR). In recent years, ER has also been widely used in patients of different tumor types, sizes, and age groups, because the pseudocapsule can be identified more clearly under the endoscopy. Endoscopic transsphenoidal resection for PitNETs has become the preferred surgical method. We reviewed relevant literatures in the past 10 years, showing that ER could achieve better rate of gross total resection (GTR) and biochemical remission, and reduce tumor recurrence than IR, without increasing postoperative complications. The morphology of nano-Cu
2 O profoundly determines its catalytic performance. Here, we provide two universal and reliable techniques to modify the surface of nano-Cu2 O. First, we detail steps for the systematic tuning of the exposed facets of nano-Cu2 O ranging from low index to high index using reductant-controlled technique in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate. Second, we describe steps for facet-directed precipitation in which the morphology-dependent ZIF-8 (a type of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks) shells on different nano-Cu2 O are well introduced. Rationale: Vulvar melanoma is a rare and aggressive tumor with a high risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis. The prognosis is poor with a 5-year overall survival rate of only 46.6%. Management of vulvar melanoma remains a clinical challenge. Recent evidences have shown that immune checkpoint inhibitors are effective in the treatment of vulvar melanoma., Patient Concerns and Diagnoses: A 63-year-old woman with vulvar malignant melanoma suffered inguinal lymph node metastasis after vulvectomy and chemotherapy. She underwent inguinal lymph node dissection and inguinal radiotherapy. The tumor progressed again and she received immunotherapy., Interventions: The tumor progressed again, and she was admitted to our hospital and received toripalimab combined with apatinib and abraxane., Outcomes: After 6 cycles of immunotherapy, the efficacy achieved partial remission. 15. Incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in 2017 and the time-trend from 2010 to 2017 in Henan province, China: a population-based registry study.

- Abstract
Background: Henan province is an area with a serious disease burden of colorectal cancer (CRC) in China. Understanding the current incidence and mortality and the time-trend is critical to formulate and optimize prevention and control strategies for CRC. However, the current incidence and mortality and time-trend of CRC in Henan province, China have not been reported., Methods: CRC data was got from the Henan Provincial Central Cancer Registry of China in which the data was submitted from local cancer registries. Combined with the census data, the incidence, mortality, proportion, age-standardized rate by Chinese population (ASRC), age-standardized rate by world population (ASRW), and cumulative incidence and mortality (0-74 years old) of CRC by urban and rural population, gender, and age groups were estimated. The average annual percentage change (AAPC) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) of ASRC from 2010 to 2017 were analyzed., Results: In 2017, it was estimated that there were 20,275 new cases and 10,046 deaths of CRC in Henan province. The crude incidence was 18.73/100,000, with an age-standardized incidence rate by Chinese population (ASIRC) of 13.97/100,000 and age-standardized mortality rate by world population (ASIRW) of 13.78/100,000. The cumulative incidence was 1.66%. The mortality rate was 9.28/100,000, with an age-standardized mortality rate by Chinese population (ASMRC) of 6.49/100,000 and an age-standardized mortality rate by world population (ASMRW) of 6.45/100,000. The cumulative mortality rate was 0.69%. The ASIRC and ASMRC were higher in urban areas (15.89/100,000, 7.19/100,000) than in rural areas (13.13/100,000, 6.20/100,000), and higher in males (15.53/100,000, 7.44/100,000) than in females (12.48/100,000, 5.66/100,000). The age-specific incidence reached the peak at age of 80-84, and the age-specific mortality reached the peak at age 85. From 2010 to 2017, the overall ASIRC and ASMRC showed a steady trend (P>0.05), while an upward trend was observed in the mortality rate in urban males (AAPC =3.4, 95% CI: 0.2-6.7, P=0.040)., Conclusions: The incidence and mortality of CRC were high in Henan province, and higher in urban areas and males. - Abstract
Background: It is great of significance to figure the time-trend of esophageal cancer (EC) and its current status for effective prevention and control, especially in EC high risk areas. As one of world-renowned high-risk areas, the epidemiology of EC in Henan has not been recently updated. Therefore, we aimed to depict the status quo of EC and analyze its time-trend in Henan., Methods: The EC data were extracted from the Henan Provincial Cancer registry database derived from the population based cancer registry system, which covered 30.51% of the whole population in Henan and were qualified according to national and international guidelines. The incidence and mortality of EC were estimated by area (rural/urban), gender, and age groups. The age-standardized rates (ASRs) were calculated according to the Segi's population. Joinpoint regression was used to calculate annual percentage change (APC) and average annual percentage change (AAPC) to evaluate the time-trend of EC., Results: As estimated, there were 29,913 new EC cases in Henan, 2018. The crude incidence and the age-standardized incidence rate by world standard population (ASIRW) was 27.43/10
5 and 19.96/105 , respectively. The incidence in males and rural was 1.83 and 1.51 times higher than that in females and urban areas, respectively. Meanwhile, it was estimated that 22,688 deaths occurred in 2018. The crude mortality and the age-standardized mortality rate by world standard population (ASMRW) were 20.80/105 and 14.47/105 , respectively. Similarly, males and rural areas had higher mortality compared with females and urban areas. The age-specific incidence and mortality of EC showed significant increasing after 60-64 years group. In general, the time-trend of incidence (APC: -8.9, P<0.001) and mortality (APC: -7.6, P<0.001) of EC showed a significant decreasing trend since 2014, and downward trend were also observed in rural areas for incidence (APC: -5.2, P<0.001) and mortality (APC: -3.9, P<0.001) from 2010 to 2018., Conclusions: The EC incidence and mortality in Henan has exhibited a significant declining trend in past years. Nonetheless, the disease burden remains high, especially in males and rural areas. 17. Abundance and Niche Differentiation of Comammox in the Sludges of Wastewater Treatment Plants That Use the Anaerobic-Anoxic-Aerobic Process.

- Abstract
Complete ammonia oxidizers (comammox), which directly oxidize ammonia to nitrate, were recently identified and found to be ubiquitous in artificial systems. Research on the abundance and niche differentiation of comammox in the sludges of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) would be useful for improving the nitrogen removal efficiency of WWTPs. Here, we investigated the relative abundance and diversity of comammox in fifteen sludges of five WWTPs that use the anaerobic−anoxic−aerobic process in Jinan, China, via quantitative polymerase chain reaction and high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and ammonia monooxygenase gene. In the activated sludges in the WWTPs, comammox clade A.1 was widely distributed and mostly comprised Candidatus Nitrospira nitrosa-like comammox (>98% of all comammox). The proportion of this clade was negatively correlated (p < 0.01) with the dissolved oxygen (DO) level (1.7−8 mg/L), and slight pH changes (7.20−7.70) affected the structure of the comammox populations. Nitrospira lineage I frequently coexisted with Nitrosomonas, which generally had a significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) with the DO level. Our study provided an insight into the structure of comammox and other nitrifier populations in WWTPs that use the anaerobic−anoxic−aerobic process, broadening the knowledge about the effects of DO on comammox and other nitrifiers.

18. Adversarial training for prostate cancer classification using magnetic resonance imaging.

- Abstract
Background: To use adversarial training to increase the generalizability and diagnostic accuracy of deep learning models for prostate cancer diagnosis., Methods: This multicenter study retrospectively included 396 prostate cancer patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (development set, 297 patients from Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People's Hospital and Eighth People's Hospital; test set, 99 patients from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University). Two binary classification deep learning models for clinically significant prostate cancer classification [PM1, pretraining Visual Geometry Group network (VGGNet)-16-based model 1; PM2, pretraining residual network (ResNet)-50-based model 2] and two multiclass classification deep learning models for prostate cancer grading (PM3, pretraining VGGNet-16-based model 3; PM4: pretraining ResNet-50-based model 4) were built using apparent diffusion coefficient and T2-weighted images. These models were then retrained with adversarial examples starting from the initial random model parameters (AM1, adversarial training VGGNet-16 model 1; AM2, adversarial training ResNet-50 model 2; AM3, adversarial training VGGNet-16 model 3; AM4, adversarial training ResNet-50 model 4, respectively). To verify whether adversarial training can improve the diagnostic model's effectiveness, we compared the diagnostic performance of the deep learning methods before and after adversarial training. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to evaluate significant prostate cancer classification models. Differences in areas under the curve (AUCs) were compared using Delong's tests. The quadratic weighted kappa score was used to verify the PCa grading models., Results: AM1 and AM2 had significantly higher AUCs than PM1 and PM2 in the internal validation dataset (0.84 vs. 0.89 and 0.83 vs. 0.87) and test dataset (0.73 vs. 0.86 and 0.72 vs. 0.82). 20. Status and associated factors of cross-regional healthcare-seeking among patients with advanced colorectal cancer in China: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

Background: The imbalanced allocation of medical resources leads to the occurrence of cross-regional healthcare-seeking in China. Due to the low cure rate, advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) patients may seek cross-regional healthcare for high-level medical facilities. Investigating status of cross-regional healthcare-seeking and its associated factors among advanced CRC patients is important for policymakers to understand access to health services and improve the quality of oncology services., Methods: From March 2020 to March 2021, a cross‑sectional, nation-wide, hospital-based, multi-center survey was conducted. Nineteen hospitals in seven regions were selected by multi-stage stratified sampling. All eligible CRC patients in the selected hospitals were invited to participate in the current study. The outcome variable, cross-regional healthcare-seeking, was defined as seeking health facilities outside the local administration policy of medical insurance. The demographics, clinical information, and medical treatment history of each eligible CRC patient in stage III or IV, were collected through the patients' self-reporting or medical records by trained interviewers. Univariate and multivariate logistic analyses were used to explore the associated factors of cross-regional healthcare-seeking. All statistical analyses were conducted using SAS 9.4., Results: A total of 4,589 individuals with advanced CRC were included. The average age of the patients was 60.1±11.6 years, and 59.5% were males. About 37.5% of the patients suffered from metastatic CRC at first diagnosis. Approximately 36.5% of the patients had sought cross-regional health care previously, and among them, 31.9% had encountered problems. The most common problems included complicated procedures (95.3%), unreimbursed expenses of outpatient service (71.0%), and reimbursement delay (59.4%). Logistic regression analysis showed that patients who completed undergraduate or above [odds ratio (OR) =1.40, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.13-1.73], had an annual household income of more than 100,000 Chinse Yuan (CNY) (OR =1.46, 95% CI: 1.21-1.78), and had metastasis at diagnosis (OR =1.33, 95% CI: 1.18-1.51) were more likely to seek cross-regional health care., Conclusions: About one third of advanced CRC patients seek cross-regional health care, and 31.9% had encountered problems. 21. The choice of medical facility and associated factors among Chinese advanced colorectal cancer patients: a cross-sectional multi-center study.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) poses a significant public health burden worldwide. The investigation of the choice of medical facility among CRC patients is helpful for understanding access to health services and improving quality of oncology services to optimize health outcomes. However, there are limited studies on the topic. The objective of this study was to investigate the choice of medical facility and its associated factors among advanced CRC patients., Methods: This cross-sectional multi-center study included a total of 4,589 individuals with advanced CRC from 19 hospitals in 7 geographic regions in China. Participants were recruited by multi-stage stratified sampling. In the first stage, two cities in each geographic region were selected through simple random sampling. In the second stage, one tertiary cancer hospital and/or one general hospital were selected in each city. Data on medical experience and demographics were collected via a questionnaire during face-to-face interviews. Explanatory variables were selected based on the Andersen behavioral model. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the factors associated with the level of medical facility for the first treatment., Results: Hospitals at the prefecture level were the most common medical facility sought by advanced CRC patients for initial medical care (44.9%), the first definite diagnosis (46.3%), the first treatment (39.5%), and regular follow-up (38.9%). However, the first priority was changed to hospitals at the national level for the second treatment (38.0%) and after recurrence and metastasis (45.9%). Female {odds ratios (ORs) ranged from 1.31 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-1.71] to 1.41 (95% CI: 1.07-1.87)} and relatively well-educated individuals [ORs ranged from 1.74 (95% CI: 1.20-2.53) to 7.26 (95% CI: 4.18-12.60)] preferred to seek higher-level health facilities. Individuals with metastatic CRC at diagnosis were more likely to visit hospitals in provincial capitals versus hospitals at the county level (OR =1.68, 95% CI: 1.27-2.22). Individuals with "good" health-related quality of life (HRQOL) (OR =0.63, 95% CI: 0.49-0.81) were less likely to seek hospitals at the prefecture level compared with hospitals at the county level., Conclusions: There is a need to improve the oncology services for CRC patients, including the optimization of referral reform policy and the promotion of quality of primary healthcare service. 22. Knowledge and awareness of colorectal cancer risk factors, screening, and associated factors in advanced colorectal cancer patients: a multicenter cross-sectional study in China.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the 3rd most common malignancy globally, and its disease burden is increasing rapidly in China. But CRC patients' knowledge and awareness of CRC have not yet been examined, which could facilitate the identification of targeted population from public for intervention., Methods: A nationwide multicenter cross-sectional survey was conducted in 19 tertiary hospitals (10 cancer hospitals and 9 general hospitals) from March 2020 to March 2021 in China. During study period, all Stage III and IV CRC patients were invited to complete a semi-structured survey that had been designed to collect information about their socio-demographic characteristics, and knowledge and awareness of CRC risk factors and screening. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with their knowledge and awareness., Results: In total, 4,589 advanced CRC patients were enrolled in this study, of whom, 46.2% were from tertiary cancer hospitals, and 59.5% were male. Patients had a mean age of 60.1±11.6 years. Before diagnosis, 65.1% of the patients had no related knowledge of the CRC risk factors, and 84.9% were unaware of the CRC screening-related information. Only 30.4% of patients had actively sought to acquire CRC-related knowledge before diagnosis. The 3 most common knowledge sources were relatives or friends who had been diagnosed with CRC (13.2%), popular science television/broadcast shows (12.9%), and community publicity and education (9.6%). Generally, knowledge and awareness were positively associated with better education level [odds ratios (ORs) ranged from 1.49 to 2.54, P<0.001], annual household income ranged from 50,000 Chinese Yuan (CNY) to 100,000 CNY (OR =1.32, P<0.001), being manual laborer (OR =1.25, P<0.001) and being white-collar worker (OR =1.47, P<0.001)., Conclusions: Advanced CRC patients' knowledge and awareness of CRC were severely limited before diagnosis. 24. Thin-slab maximum intensity projection of CT angiography for collateral score and clot burden score evaluation: comparison with conventional CT angiography.

- Abstract
Background: This study aimed to exam the effects of thin-slab maximum intensity projection (TS-MIP) of computed tomography angiography (CTA) for collateral score (CS) and clot burden score (CBS) evaluation in patients with large-vessel-occlusion (LVO) stroke in the anterior circulation., Methods: Of 241 consecutive patients with LVO stroke admitted to our center between August 2015 and June 2020, 187 patients were enrolled. CS and CBS were evaluated on conventional CTA and TS-MIP separately. Outcome at 90 days was classified as good if modified Rankin scale (mRS) was ≤2 and as poor if mRS was >2. The correlations between CS and CBS and clinical outcomes were assessed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to determine the diagnostic values of CS and CBS. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the independent predictors of 90-day good clinical outcomes., Results: The correlation coefficient for clinical outcomes was significantly better for CS based on TS-MIP than that based on conventional CTA (-0.444 vs. -0.285, P=0.039); no significant difference was found in the CBS evaluation (TS-MIP: -0.356 vs. conventional CTA: -0.320, P=0.348). For predicting good clinical outcomes, TS-MIP-based CS was associated with larger area under the curve (AUC) (0.709 vs. 0.609, P=0.004) and higher sensitivity (69.1% vs. 42.0%, P=0.001) than CS based on CTA. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, the factors independently associated with good outcomes were National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score at admission (OR =1.147; P<0.001), TS-MIP-based CS (OR =0.326; P<0.001), final modified treatment in cerebral infarction (mTICI) score of 2b/3 (OR =0.098; P<0.001), and hemorrhagic transformation (OR =3.662; P<0.001)., Conclusions: TS-MIP-CTA is superior to conventional CTA for evaluation CS and CBS, and TS-MIP-based CS may be a useful predictor of clinical outcome., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest: All authors have completed the ICMJE uniform disclosure form (available at https://dx.doi.org/10.21037/qims-21-170). 25. Construction and Validation of a Lung Cancer Risk Prediction Model for Non-Smokers in China.

Background: About 15% of lung cancers in men and 53% in women are not attributable to smoking worldwide. The aim was to develop and validate a simple and non-invasive model which could assess and stratify lung cancer risk in non-smokers in China., Methods: A large-sample size, population-based study was conducted under the framework of the Cancer Screening Program in Urban China (CanSPUC). Data on the lung cancer screening in Henan province, China, from October 2013 to October 2019 were used and randomly divided into the training and validation sets. Related risk factors were identified through multivariable Cox regression analysis, followed by establishment of risk prediction nomogram. Discrimination [area under the curve (AUC)] and calibration were further performed to assess the validation of risk prediction nomogram in the training set, and then validated by the validation set., Results: A total of 214,764 eligible subjects were included, with a mean age of 55.19 years. Subjects were randomly divided into the training (107,382) and validation (107,382) sets. Elder age, being male, a low education level, family history of lung cancer, history of tuberculosis, and without a history of hyperlipidemia were the independent risk factors for lung cancer. Using these six variables, we plotted 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year lung cancer risk prediction nomogram. The AUC was 0.753, 0.752, and 0.755 for the 1-, 3- and 5-year lung cancer risk in the training set, respectively. In the validation set, the model showed a moderate predictive discrimination, with the AUC was 0.668, 0.678, and 0.685 for the 1-, 3- and 5-year lung cancer risk., Conclusions: We developed and validated a simple and non-invasive lung cancer risk model in non-smokers. Objectives: We aim to explore and analyze the related influencing factors of liver and cardiac iron overload in MDS patients detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)., Methods: We have detected cardiac T2* and liver T2* by MRI in 105 MDS patients. Among them, 20 patients accepted MRI examination before and after iron chelation therapy (ICT). Results : We found that adjusted ferritin (ASF) was significantly correlated with liver T2* and cardiac T2*. RBC transfusion volume, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and age were the related factors of cardiac T2*, while RBC transfusion volume and erythropoietin (EPO) were related factors of liver T2*. After ICT, the changes of ASF and liver T2* were earlier than cardiac T2*. Chronic hepatitis but virus copy normal's has no significant effect on liver iron deposition., Conclusion: These results showed special attention should be paid to these related influencing factors of liver and cardiac T2* expression when we evaluated iron overload and detected the efficacy of ICT in MDS patients.

27. Calculation of Apparent Diffusion Coefficients in Prostate Cancer Using Deep Learning Algorithms: A Pilot Study.

Background: Apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) obtained with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) are highly valuable for the detection and staging of prostate cancer and for assessing the response to treatment. However, DWI suffers from significant anatomic distortions and susceptibility artifacts, resulting in reduced accuracy and reproducibility of the ADC calculations. The current methods for improving the DWI quality are heavily dependent on software, hardware, and additional scan time. Therefore, their clinical application is limited. An accelerated ADC generation method that maintains calculation accuracy and repeatability without heavy dependence on magnetic resonance imaging scanners is of great clinical value., Objectives: We aimed to establish and evaluate a supervised learning framework for synthesizing ADC images using generative adversarial networks., Methods: This prospective study included 200 patients with suspected prostate cancer (training set: 150 patients; test set #1: 50 patients) and 10 healthy volunteers (test set #2) who underwent both full field-of-view (FOV) diffusion-weighted imaging (f-DWI) and zoomed-FOV DWI (z-DWI) with b -values of 50, 1,000, and 1,500 s/mm
2 . ADC values based on f-DWI and z-DWI (f-ADC and z-ADC) were calculated. Herein we propose an ADC synthesis method based on generative adversarial networks that uses f-DWI with a single b -value to generate synthesized ADC (s-ADC) values using z-ADC as a reference. The image quality of the s-ADC sets was evaluated using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), root mean squared error (RMSE), structural similarity (SSIM), and feature similarity (FSIM). The distortions of each ADC set were evaluated using the T2-weighted image reference. The calculation reproducibility of the different ADC sets was compared using the intraclass correlation coefficient. The tumor detection and classification abilities of each ADC set were evaluated using a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and a Spearman correlation coefficient., Results: The s-ADCb1000 had a significantly lower RMSE score and higher PSNR, SSIM, and FSIM scores than the s-ADCb50 and s-ADCb1500 (all P < 0.001). - Abstract
Background: Chronic neuropathic pain is a frequent sequel to peripheral nerve injury and maladaptive nervous system function. Divanillyl sulfone (DS), a novel structural derivative of 4,4'-dihydroxydibenzyl sulfoxide from a traditional Chinese medicine Gastrodia elata with anti-nociceptive effects, significantly alleviated neuropathic pain following intrathecal injection. Here, we aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of DS against neuropathic pain., Methods: A chronic constrictive injury (CCI) mouse model of neuropathic pain induced by sciatic nerve ligation was performed to evaluate the effect of DS by measuring the limb withdrawal using Von Frey filament test. Immunofluorescence staining was used to assess the cell localizations and expressions of Iba-1, ASC, NLRP3, and ROS, the formation of autolysosome. The levels of NLRP3-related proteins (caspase-1, NLRP3, and IL-1β), mitophagy-related proteins (LC3, Beclin-1, and p62), and apoptosis-related proteins (Bcl-XL and Bax) were detected by Western blotting. The apoptosis of BV-2 cell and caspase activity were evaluated by flow cytometry., Results: DS significantly alleviated the neuropathic pain by increasing the mechanical withdrawal threshold and inhibiting the activation of NLRP3 in CCI-induced model mice. Our findings indicated that DS promoted the mitophagy by increasing the LC3II and Beclin 1 and decreasing the levels of p62 protein in BV-2 cell. This is accompanied by the inhibition of NLRP3 activation, which was shown as inhibited the expression of NLRP3 in lysates as well as the secretion of mature caspase-1 p10 and IL-1β p17 in supernatants in cultured BV-2 microglia. In addition, DS could promote mitophagy-induced improvement of dysfunctional mitochondria by clearing intracellular ROS and restoring mitochondrial membrane potential., Conclusion: Together, our findings demonstrated that DS ameliorate chronic neuropathic pain in mice by suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by mitophagy in microglia. DS may be a promising therapeutic agent for chronic neuropathic pain.

29. Synthesizing High- b -Value Diffusion-weighted Imaging of the Prostate Using Generative Adversarial Networks.

Purpose: To develop and evaluate a diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) deep learning framework based on the generative adversarial network (GAN) to generate synthetic high- b -value ( b =1500 sec/mm
2 ) DWI (SYNb1500 ) sets from acquired standard- b -value ( b = 800 sec/mm2 ) DWI (ACQb800 ) and acquired standard- b -value ( b = 1000 sec/mm2 ) DWI (ACQb1000 ) sets., Materials and Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included 395 patients who underwent prostate multiparametric MRI. This cohort was split into internal training (96 patients) and external testing (299 patients) datasets. To create SYNb1500 sets from ACQb800 and ACQb1000 sets, a deep learning model based on GAN (M0 ) was developed by using the internal dataset. M0 was trained and compared with a conventional model based on the cycle GAN (Mcyc ). M0 was further optimized by using denoising and edge-enhancement techniques (optimized version of the M0 [Opt-M0 ]). The SYNb1500 sets were synthesized by using the M0 and the Opt-M0 were synthesized by using ACQb800 and ACQb1000 sets from the external testing dataset. For comparison, traditional calculated ( b =1500 sec/mm2 ) DWI (CALb1500 ) sets were also obtained. Reader ratings for image quality and prostate cancer detection were performed on the acquired high- b -value ( b = 1500 sec/mm2 ) DWI (ACQb1500 ), CALb1500, and SYNb1500 sets and the SYNb1500 set generated by the Opt-M0 (Opt-SYNb1500 ). Wilcoxon signed rank tests were used to compare the readers' scores. A multiple-reader multiple-case receiver operating characteristic curve was used to compare the diagnostic utility of each DWI set., Results: When compared with the Mcyc , the M0 yielded a lower mean squared difference and higher mean scores for the peak signal-to-noise ratio, structural similarity, and feature similarity ( P < .001 for all). Opt-SYNb1500 resulted in significantly better image quality ( P ≤ .001 for all) and a higher mean area under the curve than ACQb1500 and CALb1500 ( P ≤ .042 for all)., Conclusion: A deep learning framework based on GAN is a promising method to synthesize realistic high- b -value DWI sets with good image quality and accuracy in prostate cancer detection. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have achieved prominent efficacy in the treatment of numerous cancers, which is the most significant breakthrough in cancer therapy in recent years. However, ICIs are associated with a series of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Pneumonitis is an uncommon but potentially fatal irAE. In the case reported here, a patient with advanced small cell lung cancer (SCLC) had rapid progression of disease following chemotherapy and received ICIs. The patient experienced severe immune-related hyperthermia followed by immune-related pneumonitis. 31. Comparative Study on Iron Content Detection by Energy Spectral CT and MRI in MDS Patients.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the difference between dual energy spectral computed tomography (DECT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) used to detect liver/cardiac iron content in Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients with differently adjusted serum ferritin (ASF) levels. Method: Liver and cardiac iron content were detected by DECT and MRI. Patients were divided into different subgroups according to the level of ASF. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was applied in each subgroup. The correlation between iron content detected by DECT/MRI and ASF was analyzed in each subgroup. Result: ROC curves showed that liver virtual iron content (LVIC) Az was significantly less than liver iron concentration (LIC) Az in the subgroup with ASF < 1,000 ng/ml. There was no significant difference between LVIC Az and LIC Az in the subgroup with 1,000 ≤ ASF < 2,500 ng/ml and 2,500 ≤ ASF < 5,000 ng/ml. LVIC Az was significantly higher than LIC Az in the subgroup with ASF <5,000 and 5,000 ≤ ASF ng/ml. In patients undergoing DECT and MRI examination on the same day, ASF was significantly correlated with LVIC, whereas no significant correlation was observed between ASF and LIC. After removing the data of ASF > 5,000 mg/L in LIC, LIC became correlated with ASF. There was no significant difference between the subgroup with 2,500 ≤ ASF < 5,000 ng/ml and 5,000 ng/ml ≤ ASF in LIC expression. Furthermore, both LIC and liver VIC had significant correlations with ASF in patients with ASF < 2,500 ng/ml, while LVIC was still correlated with ASF, LIC was not correlated with ASF in patients with 2,500 ng/ml ≤ ASF. Moreover, neither cardiac VIC nor myocardial iron content (MIC) were correlated with ASF in these subgroups. Conclusion: MRI and DECT were complementary to each other in liver iron detection. In MDS patients with high iron content, such as ASF ≥ 5,000 ng/ml, DECT was more reliable than the MRI in the assessment of iron content. But in patients with low iron content, such as ASF < 1,000 ng/ml, MRI is more reliable than DECT. - Abstract
Glioma is the most common and lethal malignant intracranial tumor. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as pivotal regulators in the tumorigenesis of glioma. However, the role of lncRNA urothelial carcinoma-associated 1 (UCA1) in glioma genesis is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the underlying function of UCA1 on glioma genesis. The results demonstrated that UCA1 was upregulated in glioma tissue and indicated a poor prognosis. UCA1 knockdown induced by si-UCA1 significantly suppressed the proliferative, migrative, and invasive activities of glioma cell lines (U87 and U251). Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assay verified the complementary binding within UCA1 and miR-122 at the 3-UTR. Functional experiments revealed that UCA1 acted as an miR-122 sponge to modulate glioma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion via downregulation of miR-122. Overall, the present study demonstrated that lncRNA UCA1 acts as an endogenous sponge of miR-122 to promote glioma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, which provides a novel insight and therapeutic target in the tumorigenesis of glioma.

33. Comparison of Postnatal Growth Charts of Singleton Preterm and Term Infants Using World Health Organization Standards at 40-160 Weeks Postmenstrual Age: A Chinese Single-Center Retrospective Cohort Study.

There remains controversy regarding whether the growth charts constructed from data of term infants, such as those produced by the World Health Organization (WHO) standards, can appropriately evaluate the postnatal growth of preterm infants. This retrospective cohort study, conducted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University in Jinan China, aimed to compare the postnatal growth charts of singleton preterm and term infants using WHO standards at 40-160 weeks postmenstrual age (PMA). A total of 5,459 and 15,185 sets of longitudinal measurements [length/height, weight, head circumference (HC), and body mass index (BMI)] from birth to 160 weeks PMA were used to construct growth charts for 559 singleton preterm (mean PMA at birth, 33.84 weeks) and 1,596 singleton term infants (born at 40 weeks PMA), respectively, using the Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape (GAMLSS) method. Z-scores (prematurity corrected) were calculated using WHO Anthro software. Compared to WHO standards, all parameters of preterm infants were increased, especially in terms of length/height and weight; the gap between the two almost spanned two adjacent centile curves. Compared to term controls, the length/height, weight, and BMI of preterm infants were higher at 40 weeks PMA, surpassed by term infants at 52-64 weeks PMA, and quite consistent thereafter. The HC of preterm infants at 40-160 weeks PMA was quite consistent with both term controls and the WHO standards. The Z-scores for length/height, weight, and BMI of preterm infants relative to the WHO standards gradually decreased from 1.20, 1.13, and 0.74 at 40-44 weeks PMA to 0.67, 0.42, and 0.03 at 132-160 weeks PMA, respectively; Z-scores for HC of preterm infants rapidly decreased from 0.73 to 0.29 at 40-50 weeks PMA, and then fluctuated in the range of 0.08-0.23 at 50-160 weeks PMA. Preterm infants had higher growth trajectories than the WHO standards and similar but not identical trajectories to term infants during the first 2 years of life. 34. Heterogeneous synthesis and electrochemical performance of LiMnPO 4 /C composites as cathode materials of lithium ion batteries.

In this study, a facile yet efficient interfacial hydrothermal process was successfully developed to fabricate LiMnPO
4 /C composites. In this strategy, the walls of carbon nanotubes were employed as heterogeneous nucleation interfaces and biomass of phytic acid (PA) as an eco-friendly phosphorus source. By comparing the experimental results, a reasonable nucleation-growth mechanism was proposed, suggesting the advantages of interfacial effects. Meanwhile, the as-synthesized LiMnPO4 /C samples exhibited superior rate performances with discharge capacities reaching 161 mA h g-1 at C/20, 134 mA h g-1 at 1C, and 100 mA h g-1 at 5C. The composites also displayed excellent cycling stabilities by maintaining 95% of the initial capacity over 100 continuous cycles at 1C. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that the superior electrochemical performances were attributed to the low charge-transfer resistance and elevated diffusion coefficient of lithium ions. 35. The Potential Benefits of HPV E6/E7 mRNA Test in Cervical Cancer Screening in China.

- Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the clinical performance of the HPV E6/E7 mRNA test in cervical cancer screening in China. A hospital-based study was conducted with mRNA, DNA, and liquid-based cytology (LBC) as primary screening tests. Each woman with a positive result received colposcopy with lesion-targeted-biopsy. Histopathological diagnosis was used as the gold standard. The total agreement of HPV DNA and mRNA was 90.7% (95%CI: 87.9, 92.9) with a kappa value of 0.81. The positive rates of HPV DNA, mRNA, and LBC increased with the severity of histopathology diagnosis, from 25.5, 19.1, and 11.4% in normal to 100.0% in SCC, respectively. The sensitivities for mRNA to detect CIN2+ and CIN3+ were 93.8% (95%CI: 89.7-96.4) and 95.7% (95%CI: 91.3-97.9), respectively, which were not different from HPV DNA testing (95.7% [95%CI: 92.0-97.7], 96.3% [95%CI: 92.1-98.3]), but higher than LBC (80.4% [95%CI: 74.5-85.2] and 88.8% [95%CI: 83.0-92.8]). The specificities for mRNA to detect CIN2+ (79.0% [95%CI: 74.2-83.0]) and CIN3+ (70.5% [95%CI: 65.7-74.9]) were higher than HPV DNA testing (71.0% [95%CI: 65.9-75.7], 62.8% [95%CI: 57.8-67.5]), but lower than LBC (84.5% [95%CI: 80.1-88.0] 79.8% [95%CI: 75.4-83.6]). All tests were more effective in women older than 30 years. HPV mRNA test showed excellent agreement with the DNA test, with similar sensitivity and a higher specificity in detecting high-grade cervical lesions. Complete ammonia-oxidizing (comammox) bacteria play key roles in environmental nitrogen cycling and all belong to the genus Nitrospira , which was originally believed to include only strict nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (sNOB). Thus, differential estimation of sNOB abundance from that of comammox Nitrospira has become problematic, since both contain nitrite oxidoreductase genes that serve as common targets for sNOB detection. Herein, we developed novel comammox Nitrospira clade A- and B-specific primer sets targeting the α-subunit of the ammonia monooxygenase gene ( amoA ) and a sNOB-specific primer set targeting the cyanase gene ( cynS ) for quantitative PCR (qPCR). The high coverage and specificity of these primers were checked by use of metagenome and metatranscriptome data sets. Efficient and specific amplification with these primers was demonstrated using various environmental samples. Using the newly designed primers, we successfully estimated the abundances of comammox Nitrospira and sNOB in samples from two chloramination-treated drinking water systems and found that, in most samples, comammox Nitrospira clade A was the dominant type of Nitrospira and also served as the primary ammonia oxidizer. Compared with other ammonia oxidizers, comammox Nitrospira had a higher abundance in process water samples in these two drinking water systems. We also demonstrated that sNOB can be readily misrepresented by an earlier method, calculated by subtracting the comammox Nitrospira abundance from the total Nitrospira abundance, especially when the comammox Nitrospira proportion is relatively high. The new primer sets were successfully applied to comammox Nitrospira and sNOB quantification, which may prove useful in understanding the roles of Nitrospira in nitrification in various ecosystems. IMPORTANCE Nitrospira is a dominant nitrite-oxidizing bacterium in many artificial and natural environments. The discovery of complete ammonia oxidizers in the genus Nitrospira prevents the use of previously identified primers targeting the Nitrospira 16S rRNA gene or nitrite oxidoreductase ( nxr ) gene for differential determination of strict nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (sNOB) in the genus Nitrospira and among comammox bacteria in this genus. We designed three novel primer sets that enabled quantification of comammox Nitrospira clades A and B and sNOB with high coverage, specificity, and accuracy in various environments. With the designed primer sets, sNOB and comammox Nitrospira were differentially estimated in drinking water systems, and we found that comammox clade A predominated over sNOB and other ammonia oxidizers in process water samples. Accurate quantification of comammox Nitrospira and sNOB by use of the newly designed primers will provide essential information for evaluating the contribution of Nitrospira to nitrification in various ecosystems., (Copyright © 2020 American Society for Microbiology.)

37. Autografts vs Synthetics for Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

To describe the outcomes of autografts and synthetics in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction with respect to instrumented laxity measurements, patient-reported outcome scores, complications, and graft failure risk. We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE for published randomized controlled trials (RCT) and case controlled trials (CCTs) to compare the outcomes of the autografts versus synthetics after cruciate ligament reconstruction. Data analyses were performed using Cochrane Collaboration RevMan 5.0. Nine studies were identified from the literature review. Of these studies, three studies compared the results of bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) and ligament augmentation and reconstruction system (LARS), while six studies compared the results of four-strand hamstring tendon graft (4SHG) and LARS. The comparative study showed no difference in Lysholm score and failure risk between autografts and synthetics. The combined results of the meta-analysis indicated that there was a significantly lower rate of side-to-side difference > 3 mm (Odds Ratio [OR] 2.46, 95% confidence intervals [CI] 1.44-4.22, P = 0.001), overall IKDC (OR 0.40, 95% CI 0.19-0.83, P = 0.01), complications (OR 2.54, 95% CI 1.26-5.14, P = 0.009), and Tegner score (OR -0.31, 95% CI -0.52-0.10, P = 0.004) in the synthetics group than in the autografts group. This systematic review comparing long-term outcomes after cruciate ligament reconstruction with either autograft or synthetics suggests no significant differences in failure risk. Autografts were inferior to synthetics with respect to restoring knee joint stability and patient-reported outcome scores, and were also associated with more postoperative complications., (© 2020 The Authors. - Abstract
Purpose: The proportion of cured gastric cancer patients has drawn the attention of patients, physicians, and healthcare providers after comprehensive prevention and control measures were carried out for several years. Therefore, the relative survival and cure fraction were estimated in our study., Methods: Population-based cancer registration data were used to estimate survival and cure fraction. A total of 7585 gastric cancer cases (ICD10:C16.0 ~ C16.9) were extracted and included in the final analysis. Cases were diagnosed in 2003-2012 and followed until the end of 2017. Relative survival was calculated as the ratio between the observed survival through the life-table method. The expected survival was estimated by the Ederer II method. The cure fraction was estimated using flexible parametric cure models stratified by age and calendar period when the cases were diagnosed., Results: The 5-year relative survival of cardia gastric cancer increased with the calendar period of 2003-2004, 2005-2006, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, and 2011-2012 (27.5%, 28.3%, 33.5%, 38.2%, and 46.8%, respectively). The increasing trend along with the calendar periods was also observed in cure proportion of cardia gastric cancer (24.8%, 25.2%, 31.7%, 36.0%, and 43.1%, respectively). Notable improvement of cure proportion was observed in the period of 2011-2012, compared with the initial period of 2003-2004. There was an improvement of 79.8% among all gastric cancer subjects, and it was 74.1% and 55.7% in cardia gastric and noncardia gastric cancer subjects, respectively. The median survival of "uncured" patients showed no significant improvement along with the calendar periods in all age groups., Conclusions: Notable improvement of gastric cancer relative survival and cure proportion was observed in Linzhou during 2003-2012., (© 2020 The Authors. - Abstract
Nine new gastrodin derivatives, including seven p-hydroxybenzyl-modified gastrodin ethers (1-7), 6'-O-acetylgastrodin (8), and 4-[α-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 →6)-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy]benzyl alcohol (9), together with seven known derivatives, were isolated from an aqueous extract of Gastrodia elata ("tian ma") rhizomes. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic and chemical methods as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1-4, 7, 10, and 11 were also isolated from a reaction mixture by refluxing gastrodin and p-hydroxybenzyl alcohol in H
2 O. As both gastrodin and p-hydroxybenzyl alcohol exist in the plant, the reaction results provide evidence for the production and increase/decrease of potential effective/toxic components when "tian ma" is decocted solely or together with ingredients in Chinese traditional medicine formulations, though the isolates were inactive in the preliminarily cell-based assays at concentrations of 10 μM. Moreover, using ultra-performance liquid chromatography high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (UPLC-HRESIMS), 4, 7, 10, and 11, as well as component variations, were detectable in the freshly prepared extracts of different types of samples, including the freeze-dried fresh G. elata rhizomes.- Published

40. Toward Green Production of Chewing Gum and Diet: Complete Hydrogenation of Xylose to Xylitol over Ruthenium Composite Catalysts under Mild Conditions.

- Abstract
Xylitol is one of the most famous chemicals known to people as the essential ingredient of chewing gum and as the sugar alternative for diabetics. Catalytic hydrogenation of biomass-derived xylose with H
2 to produce high-value xylitol has been carried out under harsh reaction conditions. Herein, we exhibit the combination of Ru NPs with an environmentally benign MOF (ZIF-67) to afford a heterogeneous composite catalyst. Complete conversion of xylose with 100% selectivity to xylitol was achieved at 50°C and 1 atm H2 . This is the first successful attempt to produce xylitol with ambient pressure H2 as well as the first time to achieve a 100% selectivity of xylitol for applicable catalysts. We also proved the universality of the Ru@ZIF-67 towards other hydrogenation processes. Under 1 atm H2 , we achieved 100% conversion and >99% selectivity of 1-phenylethanol at 50°C for the hydrogenation of acetophenone. This is also the first report of hydrogenating acetophenone to 1-phenylethanol under 1 atm H2 , which confirms that our result not only contributes to enhance the industrial yields of xylitol and reduces both the economical and energy costs but also provides new perspectives on the other hydrogenation process with H2 ., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing financial interest., (Copyright © 2019 Cai-Juan Liu et al.)- Published

41. Improvement of Corrosion Resistance of Waterborne Polyurethane Coatings by Covalent and Noncovalent Grafted Graphene Oxide Nanosheets.

The amphiphilic graphene derivative was prepared by covalent grafting of graphene oxide (GO) with isophorone diisocyanate and N , N -dimethylethanolamine and then noncovalent grafting of GO with sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate. The results obtained from infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the short chains were successfully grafted onto the surface of GO. Subsequently, scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy results showed that the modified GO (IP-GO) has the best dispersibility and compatibility than GO and reduced GO in the waterborne polyurethane matrix. The relationship between the corrosion resistance of composite coatings and the dispersibility of the graphene derivative and the compatibility of the graphene derivative with a polymer matrix were discussed. The anticorrosive properties were characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis and salt spray tests. Through a series of anticorrosion tests, it is concluded that the anticorrosion performance of a composite coating with 0.3 wt % IP-GO is significantly improved. 42. Basilar Artery Tortuosity Is Associated With White Matter Hyperintensities by TIMP-1.

- Abstract
Background and Purpose: To test the hypothesis that the imbalance between matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) may play a potential role in bridging vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) with lacunar infarction (LI) and white matter hyperintensities (WMH)., Methods: We studied 212 patients with vertigo who underwent multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests for VBD, LI, and WMH identification. We investigated biomarkers of VBD with magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) via various physical characteristics of the vertebrobasilar arteries (VBAs). Similarly, LI and WMH biomarkers were extracted using T2-weighted and fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images. We first determined which of these neuroimaging markers were significant identifiers of VBD, LI and the different grades of WMH. We then sought to draw potential mechanistic conclusions from these MRI-derived parameters, by associating the aforementioned biomarkers with MMP and TIMP serum levels in patient blood samples using non-parametric statistical tests., Results: MMP-9 serum level was significantly higher in vertigo patients with VBAs dilation and basilar artery (BA) elongation compared to those with healthy arterial size, and the ratio of MMP-9/TIMP-1 level were higher in those patients. TIMP-1 level was also markedly higher in vertigo patients with BA tortuosity than those without BA tortuosity. The bending length (BL) of the BA was positively correlated with TIMP-1. The length, BL, and tortuosity index of the BA, as well as serum levels of TIMP-1 were greater in patients with higher WMH grades compared to those with low WMH grades. The vertebral artery and BA diameters, and the levels of MMP-2, -3, -9, TIMP-2 and cathepsin L were similar in patients with different WMH grades., Conclusion: In vertigo patients, we found various probably associations between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 with arterial alterations linked to both VBD and WMH that may help with the diagnosis and treatment of such diseases in the future.

43. Comprehensive analysis of population genetics of Phoxinus phoxinus ujmonensis in the Irtysh River: Abiotic and biotic factors.

- Abstract
As a widely distributed species along the Irtysh River, Phoxinus phoxinus ujmonensis (Kaschtschenko, 1899) was used as a model to investigate genetic diversity and population structure as well as the influence of environmental factors on population genetics. In this study, we specifically developed 12 polymorphic microsatellite loci. The analysis of microsatellite and mtDNA markers revealed a high and a moderate genetic diversity across seven populations, respectively. Moderate differentiation was also detected among several populations, indicating the impact of habitat fragmentation and divergence. The absence of isolation by distance implied an extensive gene flow, while the presence of isolation by adaptation implied that these populations might be in the process of adapting to divergent habitats. Correlation analysis showed that abiotic factors like dissolved oxygen, pH, total dissolved solids, and conductivity in water as well as biotic factors like plankton diversity and fish species diversity had impact on genetic diversity and divergence in P. phoxinus ujmonensis populations. 44. Atherosclerosis in intracranial or extracranial vessels in diabetic patients and the association with stroke subtype.

- Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with increased prevalence and severity of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and location of atherosclerosis in intracranial and extracranial vessels in diabetic patients and to investigate their association with ischemic stroke subtype., Methods: Diabetes patients (n=128) and nondiabetic patients (n=195) were enrolled. Brain MRI, MR angiography, and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) imaging findings in the two groups were retrospectively compared. The characteristics of atherosclerosis (prevalence, location, severity) and collateral flow in diabetic and nondiabetic patients and their association with stroke subtype were analyzed., Results: Atherosclerosis in extracranial vessels was more common in diabetes patients than in nondiabetic patients (43.8% vs . 23.1%; P<0.001). Symptomatic stenoses were commonly in the proximal internal carotid artery (ICA) and proximal vertebral artery (pVA). Diabetes patients were more likely to have lacunar infarction (49.2% vs . 32.3%; P=0.002) and less likely to have large artery infarct (36.7% vs . 48.2%; P=0.042). DM (OR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.96-4.30; P=0.006) and age >65 years (OR, 2.55; 95% CI, 1.24-5.22; P=0.011) were independent risk factors for lacunar infarct. Diabetes patients with symptomatic extracranial stenosis or occlusion, combined with good collateral circulation, had significantly higher risk of lacunar infarction than nondiabetic patients (47.8% vs . 30.5%; P=0.045)., Conclusions: DM aggravates the severity of extracranial atherosclerosis. 45. Solvent-assisted coordination driven assembly of a supramolecular architecture featuring two types of connectivity from discrete nanocages.

- Abstract
The rapid development of supramolecular chemistry provides a powerful bottom-up approach to construct various well-defined nano-architectures with increasing complexity and functionality. Compared to that of small and simple nanometric objects, the self-assembly of larger and more complex nanometric objects, such as nanocages, remains a significant challenge. Herein, we used a discrete nanocage as the monomer to successfully construct a novel three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular architecture, which comprises two types of nanocage building units with different connectivity, using the solvent-assisted coordination-driven assembly approach. The mechanism of this supramolecular assembly process was investigated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) studies, which identified for the first time the formation of a nanocage dimer intermediate during the assembly process. The assembly of discrete nanocages into a 3D supramolecular architecture led to remarkable enhancement of stability and gas adsorption properties.

46. Effect of transformer noise on the neurophysiology of SD rats.

- Abstract
Transformer noise is a type of environmental sound that causes discomfort to individuals. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of relatively long-term periods of transformer noise on the behavior and neurophysiology of SD rats. A total of 90 healthy SD rats with normal hearing were randomly divided into two experimental groups (65 and 60 dB group) and a control group. The experimental groups were exposed to recorded transformer noise for 8 weeks (sound level limits: 65 or 60 dB) and the control group was maintained under the same conditions without noise stimulation. Changes in physiological growth (weight tests), behavior (tail suspension and open field behavior tests) and neurophysiology (glutamate, γ-aminobutyric acid, dopamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, the morphologies of hippocampi) following noise exposure were recorded and compared. The results revealed that rats exhibited normal physiological growth, with no significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Following noise exposure, no significant differences were observed in the results of behavioral experiments (tail suspension and open field behavior tests) between the experimental and control groups. In addition, there were no significant differences in glutamate, γ-aminobutyric acid, dopamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine levels or in the morphologies of hippocampi between groups. In conclusion, exposure to transformer noise with a sound level limit of 65 dB sound pressure level (SPL) or 60 dB SPL (spectral range, 100-800 Hz) for 8 weeks (10 h/day) had no significant impact on the behavior and neurophysiology of SD rats.

47. Chemical Source Searching by Controlling a Wheeled Mobile Robot to Follow an Online Planned Route in Outdoor Field Environments.

- Abstract
In this paper, we present an estimation-based route planning (ERP) method for chemical source searching using a wheeled mobile robot and validate its effectiveness with outdoor field experiments. The ERP method plans a dynamic route for the robot to follow to search for a chemical source according to time-varying wind and an estimated chemical-patch path (C-PP), where C-PP is the historical trajectory of a chemical patch detected by the robot, and normally different from the chemical plume formed by the spatial distribution of all chemical patches previously released from the source. Owing to the limitations of normal gas sensors and actuation capability of ground mobile robots, it is quite hard for a single robot to directly trace the intermittent and rapidly swinging chemical plume resulting from the frequent and random changes of wind speed and direction in outdoor field environments. In these circumstances, tracking the C-PP originating from the chemical source back could help the robot approach the source. The proposed ERP method was tested in two different outdoor fields using a wheeled mobile robot. Experimental results indicate that the robot adapts to the time-varying airflow condition, arriving at the chemical source with an average success rate and approaching effectiveness of about 90% and 0.4~0.6, respectively.

The discovery of complete ammonia oxidizers (comammox) refutes the century-old paradigm that nitrification requires the activity of two types of microbes. Determining the distribution and abundance of comammox in various environments is important for revealing the ecology of microbial nitrification within the global nitrogen cycle. In this study, the ubiquity and diversity of comammox were analyzed for samples from different types of environments, including soil, sediment, sludge, and water. The results of a two-step PCR using highly degenerate primers (THDP-PCR) and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) supported the relatively high abundance of comammox in nearly half of all samples tested, sometimes even outnumbering canonical ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB). In addition, a relatively high proportion of comammox in tap and coastal water samples was confirmed via analysis of metagenomic data sets in public databases. The diversity of comammox was estimated by comammox-specific partial nested PCR amplification of the ammonia monooxygenase subunit A ( amoA ) gene, and phylogenetic analysis of comammox AmoA clearly showed a split of clade A into clades A.1 and A.2, with the proportions of clades A.1, A.2, and B differing among the various environmental samples. Moreover, compared to the amoA genes of AOB and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA), the comammox amoA gene exhibited higher diversity indices. The ubiquitous distribution and high diversity of comammox indicate that they are likely overlooked contributors to nitrification in various ecosystems. IMPORTANCE The discovery of complete ammonia oxidizers (comammox), which oxidize ammonia to nitrate via nitrite, refutes the century-old paradigm that nitrification requires the activity of two types of microbes and redefines a key process in the biogeochemical nitrogen cycle. Understanding the functional relationships between comammox and other nitrifiers is important for ecological studies on the nitrogen cycle. Therefore, the diversity and contribution of comammox should be considered during ecological analyses of nitrifying microorganisms. In this study, a ubiquitous and highly diverse distribution of comammox was observed in various environmental samples, similar to the distribution of canonical ammonia-oxidizing bacteria. The proportion of comammox was relatively high in coastal water and sediment samples, whereas it was nearly undetectable in open-ocean samples. - Abstract
The treatment of advanced triple-negative breast cancer, which failed in first-line or second-line therapy, is a significant challenge. We conducted this retrospective study to explore the efficacy and safety of apatinib and capecitabine as the third-line treatment for advanced triple-negative breast cancer.This retrospective study involved 44 advanced triple-negative breast cancer patients who failed in first-line or second-line therapy in Tangshan People's Hospital from January 2016 to February 2017. Twenty-two patients received apatinib and capecitabine, while 22 patients were treated with capecitabine monotherapy as third-line therapy. The progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and adverse events were compared between 2 groups.The apatinib and capecitabine group exhibited a higher PFS than capecitabine group (P = .001). Meanwhile, ORR and DCR in apatinib and capecitabine group were better than in capecitabine group (P = .042; .016). The 2 groups showed no significant difference in adverse events except degree I-II bleeding (P = .021). Both the apatinib and capecitabine and the capecitabine regimens revealed good tolerability.The apatinib and capecitabine regimen can achieve a better efficacy and similar serious adverse events compared with capecitabine regimen as the third-line treatment for advanced triple-negative breast cancer.

50. Integrated application of antegrade and retrograde recanalization for femoral-popliteal artery chronic total occlusions: outcomes compared with antegrade recanalization.

Background: To investigate the efficacy of retrograde recanalization for chronic total occlusion (CTO) of femoral-popliteal artery in patients with peripheral arterial disease., Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, all patients who had undergone endovascular recanalization for femoral-popliteal CTOs at our center from June 2011 to October 2014 were included. Patients' demographics, immediate and follow-up outcomes were analyzed., Results: A total of 205 patients with 238 CTOs were enrolled. In total, successful recanalization was achieved in 228 CTOs (95.8%). The antegrade procedure was successful in 196 CTOs. The retrograde procedure was successfully performed in 32 CTOs after failed antegrade procedure. Ankle-brachial index increased from 0.48±0.18 to 0.79±0.16 in antegrade group vs. 0.41±0.13 to 0.76±0.13 in retrograde group (P=0.438). Pulse score increased from 0.48±0.50 to 2.30±0.76 in antegrade group vs. 0.48±0.51 to 2.30±0.79 in retrograde group (P=0.771). At 12 and 24 months, primary patency rate was 86.2% (169/196) and 51.5% (101/196) in the antegrade group, and 75.0% (24/32) and 43.8% (14/32) in the retrograde group, respectively (P=0.346). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed limb salvage rates of 85.7% in the antegrade group vs. 78.1% in the retrograde group (P=0.198)., Conclusions: Retrograde recanalization is effective for CTO of femoral-popliteal artery after the failure of an antegrade procedure; immediate outcomes and mid-term patency and limb salvage rate are comparable with that of antegrade procedure., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.
