Two interpretations of Keynes's General Theory pervade economic discussion. The mainstream rigidity imperfectionist approach assumes macroeconomic variables deter price structures from reaching Walrasian equilibrium. Post-Keynesian supporters deviate from this approach and consider Keynes as a revolutionary departure from traditional economics. A third view seeks to transcend differences between the two dominant approaches by assuming market functions of the multiplier process.

A research study proposes that behaviour under uncertainty depends not only on expectations, but also the agent's evaluation of adequacy of the available evidence on which the expectations are based. A proposition derived from Keyne's argument in the 'General Theory' argues that behavioral functions need to be augmented by a credence variable. In his 'A Treatise on Probability,' Keynes attempts to develop his probability theory as a non-demonstrative logic to provide a rational basis for dealing with special situations. Research implications of the proposed model are provided.

This study analyzes reasons for the successful of the Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball as described in the bestseller, Moneyball. Benchmarking analysis is conducted to quantify the extent of Oakland's achievement. The use of player performance analysis to develop a knowledge-based "David" strategy is investigated. The difficulties of applying the Moneyball approach in more complex invasion team sports are discussed. A hierarchical structural model of an invasion game is proposed as a conceptual framework and its application illustrated using data from English Premiership soccer. The technological, conceptual, and cultural barriers to the transferability of the Moneyball approach to other sports are assessed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
