Abstract

The goal of this paper is to settle the study of non-commutative optimal transport problems with convex regularization, in their static and finite-dimensional formulations. We consider both the balanced and unbalanced problem and show in both cases a duality result, characterizations of minimizers (for the primal) and maximizers (for the dual). An important tool we define is a non-commutative version of the classical $(c,\psi)$-transforms associated with a general convex regularization, which we employ to prove the convergence of Sinkhorn iterations in the balanced case. Finally, we show the convergence of the unbalanced transport problems towards the balanced one, as well as the convergence of transforms, as the marginal penalization parameters go to $+\infty$.

Abstract

We introduce the von Neumann entropy regularization of Unbalanced Non-commutative Optimal Transport, specifically Non-commutative Optimal Transport between semi-definite positive matrices (not necessarily with trace one). We prove the existence of a minimizer, compute the weak dual formulation and prove $\Gamma$-convergence results, demonstrating convergence to both Unbalanced Non-commutative Optimal Transport (as the Entropy-regularization parameter tends to zero) and von Neumann entropy regularized Non-commutative Optimal Transport problems (as the unbalanced penalty parameter tends to infinity). To draw an analogy to the Non-commutative case, we provide a concise introduction of the static formulation of Unbalanced Optimal Transport between positive measures and bounded cost

Abstract

While in principle exact, Kohn-Sham density functional theory -- the workhorse of computational chemistry -- must rely on approximations for the exchange-correlation functional. Despite staggering successes, present-day approximations still struggle when the effects of electron-electron correlation play a prominent role. The limit in which the electronic Coulomb repulsion completely dominates the exchange-correlation functional offers a well-defined mathematical framework that provides insight for new approximations able to deal with strong correlation. In particular, the mathematical structure of this limit, which is now well-established thanks to its reformulation as an optimal transport problem, points to the use of very different ingredients (or features) with respect to the traditional ones used in present approximations. We focus on strategies to use these new ingredients to build approximations for computational chemistry and highlight future promising directions.

Abstract

This is a comprehensive review of the strong-interaction limit of density functional theory. It covers the derivation of the limiting strictly correlated electrons (SCE) functional from exact Hohenberg-Kohn DFT, basic aspects of SCE physics such as the nonlocal dependence of the SCE potential on the density, equivalent formulations and the mathematical interpretation as optimal transport with Coulomb cost, rigorous results (including exactly soluble cases), approximations, numerical methods, integration into Kohn-Sham DFT (KS SCE), and applications to molecular systems, an example being that KS SCE, unlike the local density approximation or generalized gradient approximations, dissociates H$_2$ correctly. 6. A Non-Commutative Entropic Optimal Transport Approach to Quantum Composite Systems at Positive Temperature

Abstract

This paper establishes new connections between many-body quantum systems, One-body Reduced Density Matrices Functional Theory (1RDMFT) and Optimal Transport (OT), by interpreting the problem of computing the ground-state energy of a finite dimensional composite quantum system at positive temperature as a non-commutative entropy regularized Optimal Transport problem. We develop a new approach to fully characterize the dual-primal solutions in such non-commutative setting. The mathematical formalism is particularly relevant in quantum chemistry: numerical realizations of the many-electron ground state energy can be computed via a non-commutative version of Sinkhorn algorithm. Our approach allows to prove convergence and robustness of this algorithm, which, to our best knowledge, were unknown even in the two marginal case. Our methods are based on careful a priori estimates in the dual problem, which we believe to be of independent interest. Finally, the above results are extended in 1RDMFT setting, where bosonic or fermionic symmetry conditions are enforced on the problem.

7. Optimal Transport losses and Sinkhorn algorithm with general convex regularization

Abstract

We introduce a new class of convex-regularized Optimal Transport losses, which generalizes the classical Entropy-regularization of Optimal Transport and Sinkhorn divergences, and propose a generalized Sinkhorn algorithm. Our framework unifies many regularizations and numerical methods previously appeared in the literature. We show the existence of the maximizer for the dual problem, complementary slackness conditions, providing a complete characterization of solutions for such class of variational problems. As a consequence, we study structural properties of these losses, including continuity, differentiability and provide explicit formulas for the its gradient. Finally, we provide theoretical guarantees of convergences and stability of the generalized Sinkhorn algorithm, even in the continuous setting. The techniques developed here are directly applicable also to study Wasserstein barycenters or, more generally, multi-marginal problems.

Abstract

We approach the problem of learning continuous normalizing flows from a dual perspective motivated by entropy-regularized optimal transport, in which continuous normalizing flows are cast as gradients of scalar potential functions. This formulation allows us to train a dual objective comprised only of the scalar potential functions, and removes the burden of explicitly computing normalizing flows during training. After training, the normalizing flow is easily recovered from the potential functions.

9. Entropy-Regularized $2$-Wasserstein Distance between Gaussian Measures

Abstract

Gaussian distributions are plentiful in applications dealing in uncertainty quantification and diffusivity. They furthermore stand as important special cases for frameworks providing geometries for probability measures, as the resulting geometry on Gaussians is often expressible in closed-form under the frameworks. In this work, we study the Gaussian geometry under the entropy-regularized 2-Wasserstein distance, by providing closed-form solutions for the distance and interpolations between elements. Furthermore, we provide a fixed-point characterization of a population barycenter when restricted to the manifold of Gaussians, which allows computations through the fixed-point iteration algorithm. As a consequence, the results yield closed-form expressions for the 2-Sinkhorn divergence. As the geometries change by varying the regularization magnitude, we study the limiting cases of vanishing and infinite magnitudes, reconfirming well-known results on the limits of the Sinkhorn divergence. Finally, we illustrate the resulting geometries with a numerical study.

Abstract

This paper exploit the equivalence between the Schr\"odinger Bridge problem and the entropy penalized optimal transport in order to find a different approach to the duality, in the spirit of optimal transport. This approach results in a priori estimates which are consistent in the limit when the regularization parameter goes to zero. In particular, we find a new proof of the existence of maximizing entropic-potentials and therefore, the existence of a solution of the Schr\"odinger system. Our method extends also when we have more than two marginals: we can provide an alternative proof of the convergence of the Sinkhorn algorithm with two marginals and we show that the Sinkhorn algorithm converges in the multi-marginal case.

12. How Well Do WGANs Estimate the Wasserstein Metric?

Abstract

Generative modelling is often cast as minimizing a similarity measure between a data distribution and a model distribution. Recently, a popular choice for the similarity measure has been the Wasserstein metric, which can be expressed in the Kantorovich duality formulation as the optimum difference of the expected values of a potential function under the real data distribution and the model hypothesis. In practice, the potential is approximated with a neural network and is called the discriminator. Duality constraints on the function class of the discriminator are enforced approximately, and the expectations are estimated from samples. This gives at least three sources of errors: the approximated discriminator and constraints, the estimation of the expectation value, and the optimization required to find the optimal potential. In this work, we study how well the methods, that are used in generative adversarial networks to approximate the Wasserstein metric, perform. We consider, in particular, the $c$-transform formulation, which eliminates the need to enforce the constraints explicitly. We demonstrate that the $c$-transform allows for a more accurate estimation of the true Wasserstein metric from samples, but surprisingly, does not perform the best in the generative setting., Comment: 23 pages

RESUMO: Na educação em ciências, diferentes autores apontaram a importância de pensar como sexo/gênero pode ser incorporado às pesquisas e às práticas didáticas, visando a superação de desigualdades. Tendo como contexto aulas de biologia no ensino médio, analisamos as interações de um grupo de estudantes para compreender como sexo/gênero influenciam as normas sociais de construção do conhecimento. Encontramos evidências que indicam desequilíbrio na igualdade moderada dos integrantes do grupo, sendo mais valoradas as contribuições dos meninos cis. O uso dos padrões públicos de análise garantiu a visibilidade e aceitação dos argumentos das meninas cis. Discutimos como o reconhecimento de que as normas sociais de construção do conhecimento em sala de aula são influenciadas por sexo/gênero pode contribuir para pesquisas sobre aprendizagem epistêmica, assim como auxiliar docentes no estabelecimento de práticas que contribuam para a construção de um ambiente equitativo para a aprendizagem epistêmica.

Abstract

Neurocysticercosis, a parasitic infection of the central nervous system (CNS), is a significant public health issue globally, including in Brazil. This article presents a case report of a 44-year-old male patient residing in the rural area of Roraima, the northernmost region of Brazil within the Amazon Forest. The patient, with chronic HIV infection, acquired the Taenia solium helminth, resulting in neurocysticercosis development. Remarkably, the diagnosis of neurocysticercosis was not initially apparent but emerged through meticulous analysis following a motorcycle accident. The absence of seizures, a common clinical manifestation, complicated the diagnostic process, making it an uncommon case of NCC, which may be related to co-infection. As the patient’s condition progressed, multiple complications arose, requiring additional medical attention and interventions. This case underscores the immense challenges faced by healthcare teams in managing neurocysticercosis effectively. It emphasizes the critical need for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to provide optimal care for such complex cases. The study’s findings underscore the importance of raising awareness and implementing improved strategies for tackling neurocysticercosis, particularly in regions where it remains a prevalent concern.

My contribution will be developed on three levels. First of all I will investigate Voegelin’s conception of race in his early work, considering in particular its relation with political communities. Philosophical anthropology becomes for Voegelin the instrument to understand political ideas as originated by the experience of human being as a corporeal-psychic unity. Secondly, I will focus on two concepts characterizing the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead that resonate in Voegelin’s thought concerning race, science and political communities, namely those of ‘climate of opinion’ and ‘fallacy of misplaced concreteness’. Finally, I will develop a critical consideration of Voegelin’s anthropology, testing its validity in front of contemporary issues, such as ecology, the pandemic and the crisis of democracy

The strong-interaction limit of the Hohenberg-Kohn functional defines a multimarginal optimal transport problem with Coulomb cost. From physical arguments, the solution of this limit is expected to yield strictly-correlated particle positions, related to each other by co-motion functions (or optimal maps), but the existence of such a deterministic solution in the general three-dimensional case is still an open question. A conjecture for the co-motion functions for radially symmetric densities was presented in Phys.~Rev.~A {\bf 75}, 042511 (2007), and later used to build approximate exchange-correlation functionals for electrons confined in low-density quantum dots. Colombo and Stra [Math.~Models Methods Appl.~Sci., {\bf 26} 1025 (2016)] have recently shown that these conjectured maps are not always optimal. Here we revisit the whole issue both from the formal and numerical point of view, finding that even if the conjectured maps are not always optimal, they still yield an interaction energy (cost) that is numerically very close to the true minimum. We investigate a number of formal properties of the adiabatic strictly-correlated electrons (SCE) functional, relevant for time-dependent potentials and for kernels in linear response time-dependent density functional theory. Among the former, we focus on the compliance to constraints of exact many-body theories, such as the generalised translational invariance and the zero-force theorem. Within the latter, we derive an analytical expression for the adiabatic SCE Hartree exchange-correlation kernel in one dimensional systems, and we compute it numerically for a variety of model densities. Ampros, Anfas, Aspanias, Atades, Gautena, Gorabide y Plena inclusión presentan una investigación cuyo objetivo es evaluar el impacto del plan individualizado en el que se incluyen los objetivos personales, la calidad de vida y la percepción de las personas. Se establecen puntos de referencia en un análisis longitudinal de los resultados. Con carácter previo a la elaboración del plan individual de cada persona, se han evaluado las necesidades de apoyo y la calidad de vida. En total, han participado 77 personas con discapacidad con diferentes necesidades de apoyo. Los objetivos de cada plan individual se han valorado al finalizar el primer año y al acabar el segundo, momento en el cual se volvieron a aplicar las escalas antes citadas. Se observan diferencias significativas en los resultados obtenidos en función de las necesidades de apoyo y la valoración que realizan los profesionales según los años de contacto con la persona con discapacidad. Se deben tener en cuenta las diferencias por la edad de los participantes, los problemas de comportamiento y la consecución de los objetivos individuales.

A più di un decennio dalla pubblicazione di 'A Secular Age', Charles Taylor, all’interno della lectio inedita contenuta in questo volume, si sofferma su alcuni snodi teorici tracciati nell’imponente studio sulla secolarizzazione, nonché su alcune importanti sfide emerse in quest’arco di tempo. Mentre, secondo molti, il trascorrere degli anni avrebbe dato luogo a un ulteriore e inevitabile declino della religione dall’orizzonte dell’esperienza umana fino a una sua progressiva scomparsa, oggigiorno ci troviamo di fronte a un’anomalia alla quale Taylor non si sottrae e della quale intende rendere ragione. La nostra epoca è caratterizzata, oltre che da terribili tragedie a livello globale, anche da una “cultura dei cercatori” i quali, nella fede religiosa così come nei diversi ambiti della vita, cercano una risposta ai loro interrogativi di senso. Tale ricerca spirituale, che vede coinvolti sia credenti, sia non credenti, si configura secondo i termini di un “viaggio” che investe tanto la questione della propria identità, quanto la riflessione etico-politica. Questa indagine viene condotta dal pensatore canadese all’interno dei tre saggi pubblicati nel volume, dominati dall’interrogativo circa ciò che è bene essere e amare a scapito di un’etica di stampo procedurale: solo affrontando tali sfide, infatti, sarà possibile sviluppare una riflessione adeguata concernente il senso del vivere e del con-vivere in una società post-secolare

Abstract

Nell’ambito della riflessione antropologica e filosofico-politica contemporanea emerge una tensione, molto spesso irrisolta, tra un’esigenza di libertà individuale e socio-politica che, sovente, assume i toni di una vera e propria rivendicazione sul piano dei diritti e una profonda esigenza relazionale con l’altro e con gli altri da sé. Quest’ultima, talvolta, si traduce nel bisogno di un rapporto stabile e profondo, configurandosi perfino come esigenza di «appartenenza» a un’identità culturale, religiosa o socio-politica che, a sua volta, definisce, almeno parzialmente, alcuni aspetti della propria identità. All’interno del dibattito filosofico-politico contemporaneo, le posizioni assunte in merito a tale tematica sono tra loro divergenti: si va dall’individualismo di matrice liberale a forme di collettivismo, da un comunitarismo olista a prospettive liberali anch’esse oliste e, ancora, da un repubblicanesimo radicato nel primato della libertà individuale a una visione di repubblicanesimo «critico». Abstract

This contribution intends to put forward some critical reflections aimed towards the rethinking of public space as a space of encounter and reasonable dialogue, contrary to the tendency propogated by the debates that stimulate many western democracies, in which – in order to guarantee a peaceful coexistence between the people who foster different cultural and religious perspectives among themselves – an ethics of control as well as that which Charles Taylor defines as “code fetishism” are appealed to. The cultural challenge that we are up against is recognizing the centrality of the search for fulfillment in the public sphere: this is at the base of a new form of being, which is likewise capable of regenerating sociopolitical community.

Abstract

Republic Act (RA) 9994, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizen Act of 2010, was enacted into law to provide more benefits to the elderly and deliver full support to their well-being (Inabangan et al., 2019). The benefits are essential as most of them no longer hold jobs, and financial stability can be challenging if not fatal. The current laws and policy provisions on food and medicine discount and the granting of a social pension to underprivileged senior citizens are only palliatives at best. However, they stretch the limited incomes of these individuals and their supporting families who live below the poverty level. The purpose of the study is to assess the level of awareness and extent of availment on the benefits under RA 9994 of senior citizens in a highly urbanized city of Negros Occidental as well as the relationship between awareness and availment. Likewise, explore the challenges encountered by senior citizens in availing their benefits under RA 9994.

Las personas con discapacidad intelectual y del desarrollo con necesidades específcas de comunicación utilizan formas comunicativas que habitualmente pueden resultar limitadas y difíciles de intuir por la mayor parte de las personas lo que, por ende, disminuye su efcacia. En este trabajo se propone una metodología que se sustenta en la utilización de sistemas alternativos y aumentativos de comunicación junto con la metodología de planifcación centrada en la persona. En él la tecnología se pone al servicio del proyecto de vida de la persona y se implica a su círculo de relaciones para mejorar su calidad de vida y generalizar el uso de los sistemas de comunicación en todos sus contextos vitales.

Neste trabalho investigamos a relação entre a autonomia dos estudantes para tomar decisões referentes às transformações do conhecimento ao longo do processo investigativo e seu engajamento com práticas epistêmicas numa atividade de ensino baseado em investigação. Partimos das hipóteses de que os momentos com maior diversidade de práticas epistêmicas estariam associados às transformações performadas pelos alunos ao longo do processo investigativo, e que os mesmos momentos teriam alto grau de autonomia dos estudantes. Como procedimento, mapeamos a ocorrência de práticas epistêmicas nas interações discursivas de dois grupos de estudantes ao longo de uma atividade de ensino por investigação sobre dinâmica populacional. A partir desse mapeamento, identificamos os episódios com maior diversidade de práticas epistêmicas e, nestes, analisamos as interações discursivas buscando caracterizar a situação didática que promoveu essa maior diversidade. Nossas análises revelaram que os dois grupos de estudantes conduziram suas investigações de formas distintas, realizando as transformações do conhecimento (dado → evidência → padrão/modelo → explicação) em diferentes momentos e de maneira não-linear. Também tivemos evidências que os momentos de transformações ao longo do processo investigativo eram constituídos por processos de construção de consenso e de decisão. Com apenas uma exceção, a proposição da ação que se converteu em consenso nos grupos fora feita por estudantes, o que revelou que atuavam com autonomia nesse processo. Concluímos que a ocorrência de uma maior diversidade de práticas epistêmicas se relacionou com os momentos de transformações do conhecimento e com contextos investigativos que promoveram a autonomia dos estudantes para conduzir a investigação.

Abstract

This paper establishes new connections between many-body quantum systems, One-body Reduced Density Matrices Functional Theory (1RDMFT) and Optimal Transport (OT), by interpreting the problem of computing the ground-state energy of a finite dimensional composite quantum system at positive temperature as a non-commutative entropy regularized Optimal Transport problem. We develop a new approach to fully characterize the dual-primal solutions in such non-commutative setting. The mathematical formalism is particularly relevant in quantum chemistry: numerical realizations of the many-electron ground state energy can be computed via a non-commutative version of Sinkhorn algorithm. Our approach allows to prove convergence and robustness of this algorithm, which, to our best knowledge, were unknown even in the two marginal case. Our methods are based on careful a priori estimates in the dual problem, which we believe to be of independent interest. Finally, the above results are extended in 1RDMFT setting, where bosonic or fermionic symmetry conditions are enforced on the problem.

Abstract

Objective: To describe the application of the nursing model “Primary Nursing” to patients submitted to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.Method: Convergent-care research conducted from June to December 2016 with 20 nursing professionals from the Bone Marrow Transplant Service of a Brazilian Public Hospital. The results were obtained with the administration of a semi-structured interview. Thematic analysis described by Creswell was used in data analysis.Results: Six thematic categories based on the applicability of the Primary Nursing model emerged, as follows: Ambience and care process; Knowing the patient; Interpersonal relations; Favorable and unfavorable aspects; Organization of the care process; and Nursing Process.Conclusion: The study reports improvements and difficulties in the nursing care process with the application the Primary Nursing model, but proved above all to be a viable nursing model for the care of patients submitted to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Abstract

Within contemporary plural societies it is very common to experience of moral diversity on various issues. Does this phenomenological account necessarily lead to accept moral subjectivism and skepticism as inevitable conclusions? If we tackle the issue from a foundationalist standpoint, it seems hard to find a common ground for dialogue. Moreover, the multiplication of desires and their claim to offer a normative criterion for human action might lead us to abandon the possibility of a common moral enterprise, and to delegate the solution of dilemmas to a system of norms or moral rules. While engaging in a critical dialogue with C. Taylor and M. MacIntyre, I will argue that we need to follow the path of practical reason in order to avoid skepticism, starting from common fundamental dispositions toward ‘good’ and ‘right’. Moreover, we do not need to overcome desires, as their dynamic leads us beyond the limits of moralism to discover a constellation. of meanings crucial for human life. Lastly, I will argue that the possibility of tackling moral disagreement without surrender to scepticism depends on a dialogue developed within a network of narratives interacting with each other through which practical reason can detect the incarnation of those goods worthy of our love and allegiance. Therefore, moral disagreement might be addressed, rather than from a dialectical perspective (responsible, in turn, of generating further oppositions), from a dialogical one, in which the ‘exchange of reasons’ (dià-logos) embodies the work of the practical reason within a narrative context.

Nei mesi di pandemia che abbiamo vissuto abbiamo potuto riscontrare come un atteggiamento morale che enfatizzi in modo spropositato la dimensione del controllo nel tentativo di conseguire un maggiore senso di “sicurezza”, tanto sul piano personale quanto su quello sociale, si sia rivelato incapace di mantenere le sue promesse e, soprattutto, come – ultimamente – non possa costituire un orizzonte adeguato del nostro vivere e del nostro con-vivere. Abstract

This study identified relevant topics in litter research in Brazil, highlighting aspects, terms, and interconnected analyses. Using Google Scholar, 300 articles with the term "litter" in the title were selected, and their abstracts were analyzed with the Iramuteq software. A variety of sampling and analysis methods related to the production, accumulation, and decomposition of litter were identified. The results highlight terms such as "decomposition," "soil," "nutrient," and "forest," showing a higher recurrence in specific methodologies and vegetation types. The analysis also revealed a significant gap in non-forest environments, indicating the need for more comprehensive studies. The application of IRAMUTEQ and the broad scope of Google Scholar proved effective in organizing and interpreting large volumes of textual data. This research contributes to the advancement of knowledge about litter, demonstrating the utility of scientometric approaches and highlighting the need for new investigations to promote the sustainability and conservation of Brazilian ecosystems. Abstract

Gliobastomas are neoplasies that present themselves to be the most malignant among the astrocytic tumors. Their prognosis is ominous, with few years of survival. As we are dealing with such an aggressive illness, whose treatment is still so greatly limited, this study has had as objective to carry out a bibliographical revision to clarify the mechanisms of this illness and the advances in its treatment. One concludes that, despite the progress in the treatment of glioblastoma, it is still necessary to achieve more advances, by means of current promising researches, thus improving the quality of life of these patients.

Abstract

While in principle exact, Kohn–Sham density functional theory—the workhorse of computational chemistry—must rely on approximations for the exchange–correlation functional. Despite staggering successes, present-day approximations still struggle when the effects of electron–electron correlation play a prominent role. The limit in which the electronic Coulomb repulsion completely dominates the exchange–correlation functional offers a well-defined mathematical framework that provides insight for new approximations able to deal with strong correlation. In particular, the mathematical structure of this limit, which is now well-established thanks to its reformulation as an optimal transport problem, points to the use of very different ingredients (or features) with respect to the traditional ones used in present approximations. We focus on strategies to use these new ingredients to build approximations for computational chemistry and highlight future promising directions. Abstract

In political philosophy and in social ethics, multiculturalism offers an important contribution to understand the claims of minorities which had been previously discriminated against, excluded, or under-recognized by the dominant culture, providing contemporary society and politics with a hermeneutic of the common good inseparable from collective identities. Nowadays, it is impossible to develop a philosophical reflection on the human being and his/her agency regardless of the challenges of cultural/religious pluralism and the diversity of goods pursued within multicultural societies (in philosophy, the meaning of “multiculturalism” is always prescriptive, as multiculturalism represents a normative response to the fact of diversity). The debate on multiculturalism has emerged in the 1960s in Britain, in Canada, in Australia, and later on in the USA and in the rest of Europe. Nowadays the debate on multiculturalism is still crucial and expands the reflection toward interculturalism. Both multiculturalism and interculturalism, if interpreted as always perfectible perspectives, offer a crucial contribution to the contemporary debate on identity and difference in politics, recognizing the value of difference as an essential condition for establishing a genuine national identity which is distant from the one propounded by populism and nationalism. In my chapter, I consider some of the most important philosophical justifications for multiculturalism: Will Kymlicka’s liberal theory of multiculturalism, Charles Taylor’s politics of recognition, Bhikhu Parekh’s strong multiculturalism, and Chandran Kukathas’ modus vivendi liberalism. I also consider various critiques on multiculturalism. Finally, the term has been analyzed within a European sociopolitical context and its related institutions (the Council of Europe, the Council of the European Union, and the European Commission).

Abstract

O câncer de colo uterino (CCU) representa o quarto tipo de câncer mais comum entre as mulheres no mundo. No Brasil, é a neoplasia maligna que mais acomete o trato genital feminino e são esperados 16.590 casos novos para 2020. Seu pico de incidência situa-se entre mulheres de 40 a 60 anos de idade. O principal agente promotor da lesão precursora é o Papilomavírus Humano (HPV), identificado em mais de 95% dos casos. Além disso, fatores ligados à imunidade, à genética e ao comportamento sexual podem influenciar os mecanismos ainda incertos que determinam a regressão ou a progressão para lesões precursoras ou câncer. Considerando que o câncer de colo do útero é uma das prioridades da política de saúde pública do país, este trabalho avaliou o perfil epidemiológico das mulheres diagnosticadas com carcinoma invasor de colo uterino, atendidas na unidade de oncologia ginecológica de um hospital público e terciário, situado no Distrito Federal, utilizando como metodologia o estudo retrospectivo, quantitativo, transversal, descritivo e observacional. Foram identificados os principais fatores de risco, visando proporcionar diagnósticos precoces e tratamentos menos invasivos, além de estratégias de ação e intervenção mais eficazes a esta população.

They furthermore stand as important special cases for frameworks providing geometries for probability measures, as the resulting geometry on Gaussians is often expressible in closed-form under the frameworks. In this work, we study the Gaussian geometry under the entropy-regularized 2-Wasserstein distance, by providing closed-form solutions for the distance and interpolations between elements. Furthermore, we provide a fixed-point characterization of a population barycenter when restricted to the manifold of Gaussians, which allows computations through the fixed-point iteration algorithm. As a consequence, the results yield closed-form expressions for the 2-Sinkhorn divergence. As the geometries change by varying the regularization magnitude, we study the limiting cases of vanishing and infinite magnitudes, reconfirming well-known results on the limits of the Sinkhorn divergence. Finally, we illustrate the resulting geometries with a numerical study.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The main aim of this study is to review the agenda for research priorities of mental health in Brazil. METHODOLOGY: The first step was to gather 28 experts (22 researchers, five policy makers, and the coordinator) representing all mental health fields from different geographical areas of the country. Participants were asked to list what they considered to be the most relevant mental health research questions for the country to address in the next 10 years. Seventeen participants answered this question; after redundancies were excluded, a total of 110 responses were collected. As the second step, participants were asked to rank which questions were the 35 most significant. The final step was to score 15 items for each of the 35 selected questions to determine whether it would be a) answerable, b) effective, c) deliverable, d) equitable, and e) effective at reducing the burden of mental health. The ten highest ranked questions were then selected. RESULTS: There were four questions addressing primary care with respect to a) the effectiveness of interventions, b) "matrix support", c) comparisons of different models of stepped care, and d) interventions to enhance identification and treatment of common mental disorders at the Family Health Program. The other questions were related to the evaluation of mental health services for adults and children/adolescents to clarify barriers to treatment in primary care, drug addiction, and severe mental disorders; to investigate the cost-benefit relationship of anti-psychotics; to design interventions to decrease alcohol consumption; and to apply new technologies (telemedicine) for education and supervision of non-specialists. CONCLUSION: This priority-setting research exercise highlighted a need for implementing investments at the primary-care level, particularly in the family health program; the urgent need to evaluate services; and policies to improve equity by increasing accessibility to services and testing interventions to reduce barriers for seeking mental health treatment.INTRODUÇÃO: O principal objetivo desse estudo foi revisar a agenda de prioridades em pesquisa em saúde mental no Brasil. MÉTODO: Foram selecionados 28 especialistas (22 pesquisadores, cinco legisladores e o coordenador) de diferentes regiões. Responderam ao que consideravam mais relevante em pesquisa para a saúde mental para os próximos 10 anos. Dezessete responderam e configuraram 110 questões, que foram reavaliadas por eles, com atribuição de escore, a partir de 15 itens distribuídos segundo grau de responsividade, eficácia, aplicabilidade, equidade e impacto na redução da carga da doença mental. 35 questões, e dentre elas as 10 mais bem pontuadas, foram destacadas. RESULTADOS: Prevaleceram indicações para estudos de efetividade das intervenções, matriciamento, comparação entre modelos de intervenção e detecção e tratamento de transtornos mais prevalentes na Estratégia da Saúde da Família. Avaliação de serviços quanto às barreiras ao tratamento; custo-efetividade dos antipsicóticos, intervenções contra efeitos do álcool e outras drogas, e aplicação de tecnologias (telemedicina) para educação e supervisão dos generalistas foram outros. CONCLUSÃO: Apontou-se para necessidade de investimentos na saúde mental na atenção primária à saúde; avaliação do sistema de serviços de cuidados de saúde mental, e pesquisas para romper barreiras ao acesso e à equidade no tratamento dos transtornos mentais.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION. In this investigation, the psychometric properties of the Goratu Questionnaire entitled "Perceptions of people with intellectual disabilities" will be analysed. The investigation was carried out on a non probabilistic sample of 414 students from Compulsory Secondary Education as well as High School, from 5 private/concerted educational centres. METHOD. The questionnaires were carried out during the period 2017-2019 at 15 classrooms. For the elaboration of the questionnaire, an exhaustive bibliographic review was carried out and several areas of inquiry were identified from personal narratives of 8 adults with ID. Its reliability is obtained through the Cronbach a coefficient and its validity through an exploratory factor analysis applying the principal components method for factor extraction and a subsequent factor analysis to determine the optimal number of those factors. RESULTS. The Goratu Questionnaire is comprised of 5 dimensions with a total of 15 items, which explain 52.193% of the total variance and displays an adequate reliability index (a=.719). DISCUSSION. The psychometric results have been adequate obtaining values ​​higher or equal to the recommendations that the tools designed for the evaluation of social realities must satisfy. Therefore, the questionnaire can be considered useful to know the perception of students toward people with ID. The study raises some limitations such as the size and characteristics of the sample, as well as the pertinence of a possible confirmatory analysis., INTRODUCCIÓN. RESULTADOS. El Cuestionario Goratu consta de 5 dimensiones con un total de 15 ítems, que explican el 52.92% de la varianza y cuenta con un índice de fiabilidad aceptable (a=.719). DISCUSIÓN. Los resultados psicométricos han sido adecuados al obtenerse valores superiores o iguales a las recomendaciones que deben satisfacer los instrumentos diseñados para la evaluación de realidades sociales. Por ello puede considerarse un instrumento útil para conocer la percepción del alumnado en relación con las personas con DI. El estudio plantea algunas limitaciones como el tamaño y características de la muestra, así como la pertinencia de un posible análisis confirmatorio.

OBJECTIVE: Developed by the Ministry of Education, the Qualis evaluation criteria have strongly impacted the scientific production of Post-Graduation Programs. A new set of more stringent criteria has been proposed for Qualis. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of the new Qualis criteria on the scientific production of Post-Graduation Programs in psychiatry over the last 10 years. METHOD:We extracted data from annual reports published between 1998 and 2008, and compared performance measured in terms of the old Qualis rating criteria and the new set of criteria. RESULTS: There was a 25% increase in the number of Information Science Institute-indexed articles in the second five-year period, which rose from 1,213 to 1,518. While, according to the old Qualis criteria, 84% of the Information Science Institute production would have been classified as highly-rated (IF > 1), only 17% of the papers were classified as highly-rated (A1) according to the new Qualis rating criteria. Most papers (65%) were assigned to intermediate categories (B1 and B2) with an IF < 2.29. DISCUSSION:All psychiatric Post-Graduation Programs have increased their production, but by favoring quality over quantity, the new rules have proved to be more useful for discriminating among the scientific production.OBJETIVO: Nosso objetivo foi analisar o impacto dos novos critérios de avaliação de publicações científicas (Qualis) sobre a produção científica de Psiquiatria ao longo dos últimos 10 anos. Os critérios de avaliação do Ministério da Educação têm refletido em forte impacto na produção científica dos Programas de Pós-Graduação. MÉTODO: Extraímos dados dos relatórios anuais publicados entre 1998 e 2008 e comparamos os desempenhos medidos em termos dos antigos critérios de avaliação Qualis e dos novos conjuntos de critérios. RESULTADOS: Houve um aumento de 25% no número de artigos indexados no Information Science Institute no segundo período de cinco anos, que passou de 1.213 para 1.518. Embora, de acordo com os critérios de anteriores do Qualis, 84% da produção Information Science Institute tenha sido classificada como de alta qualificação (IF > 1), apenas 17% dos trabalhos foram classificados como de alta qualificação (A1), de acordo com os novos critérios de avaliação Qualis. A maioria dos trabalhos (65%) foi atribuída a categorias intermediárias (B1 e B2), com IF < 2,29. DISCUSSÃO:Todos os Programas de Pós-Graduação de psiquiatria aumentaram sua produção, porém, favorecendo a qualidade ao invés da quantidade, as novas regras provaram ser de mais utilidade para discriminar a produção científica.
