The geometry and kinematics of unconventional engine mechanism FIK1 are described in the paper. Transformation of the piston linear movement to rotational movement is done by a swinging board, a baseboard and a crankshaft. The paper describes the trajectory and acceleration of an observed point on the swinging board in all three planes as well as the kinematics of the piston movement. The principle of the unconventional mechanism FIK1 is protected by patents No. 283742 and No. 283743. A mathematical model of the mechanism and some significant results are presented.

The pilot injection strategy is a widely used approach for reducing the noise of the combustion process in direct injection diesel engines. In the last generation of automotive diesel engines up to several pilot injections could occur to better control the rate of heat release (ROHR) in the cylinder as well as the pollutant formation. However, determination of the timing and duration for each pilot injection needs to be precisely optimised. In this paper an experimental study of the pilot injection strategy was conducted on a direct injection diesel engine. Single and double pilot injection strategy was studied. The engine rated power is 100 kW at 4000 rpm while the rated torque is 320 Nm at 2000 rpm. An engine operating point determined by the rotation speed of 1400 rpm and torque of 100 Nm was chosen. The pilot and pre-injection timing was widely varied in order to study the influence on the combustion process as well as on the fuel consumption.

The paper compares the features of suburban real driving cycles performed with CORRSYS DATRON measurement equipment on routes in the region of Žilina, Slovakia. It observes differences in the maximum and average vehicle velocities and the amount of braking in relation to the elevation profile of each individual cycle. Consumed braking power was also calculated in the different cycles in order to review the potential electricity regeneration capabilities of hybrid electric vehicles, operating on the same routes. The change in braking energy depending on vehicle mass and presence of grade on the routes in the measured cycles was also assessed. The calculations and plotting were done by using Matlab software.

Yb-doped optical crystal fluorides are promising as novel lasing cores. Here, the co-doping with Na+ ions leads to lattice charge and structural compensation. For achievement of high-intensity laser emissions such materials structurally high-ordered should possess monocrystalline properties. TEM SAED analysis indicates that the entire range of conditions for Bridgman-Stockbarger crystal growth approach in our case, for attaining of the desired single crystal growth, is properly selected.
