Abstract

Indole ring is widely represented in natural compounds, as well as in a great variety of drugs. In this paper, the synthesis of a 5-hydroxybenzoindole derivative carrying a pyridyl substituent on position 1 is reported. Abstract

The synthesis of a new tetracationic porphyrin derivative is described. Contrary to the best known derivatives in the literature, which are derived from 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-4-pyridylporphyrin (TPyP), in this procedure we start from 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(4-carboxymethoxyphenyl)porphyrin (TPPCOOMe), obtained by the condensation reaction between pyrrole and 4-formylbenzoate. The reaction is carried out in refluxed xylene, avoiding the use of halogenated solvents. The final product, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(4-(3-carbamoyl-pyridyl)-methylphenyl)porphyrin bromide (P15p), exhibits four cationic portions that make it soluble in water and suitable for G4 stabilization. The choice to synthesize a derivative of TPPCOOMe is based on the idea of having a possible stabilizer that, unlike those obtained from TPyP, shows the cationic moieties farther from the porphyrin core and thus closer to the phosphate groups present on the G4 loops. Abstract

The acid-promoted epoxidation of vegetable oils was studied using a variety acidic ion exchange resins as heterogeneous acid catalysts. Quantitative and selective epoxidation of a series of vegetable oils with different composition of saturated, mono-, di- and tri-unsaturated fatty acids was obtained upon identification of the more efficient catalyst and experimental conditions. Furthermore, optimized reaction conditions were successfully applied to the epoxidation of a waste cooking oil, thus extending our procedure to the valorization of a biowaste, an area of increasing importance within a more sustainable society. The use of quantitative 1H NMR besides making accurate evaluation of the amounts of reagents to be employed and of the selectivity, allowed facile and rapid quantification of mono-, di- and tri-epoxides, thus providing an indirect indication on the fatty acid composition of the vegetable oils, even in the presence of very low quantities of linolenic acid.

11. Copper-Catalyzed Synthesis of -Amino Acids Featuring Quaternary Stereocenters

Abstract

The first general asymmetric synthesis of -disubstituted -amino acids via Cu-catalyzed ring opening of non-strained lactones with amines is reported. This approach features ample scope, operational simplicity and wide functional group diversity. The catalytic process allows to access a series of highly functionalized enantioenriched -amino acids featuring quaternary stereocenters with excellent enantiomeric ratios up to 98:2 and excellent yields up to 98%.
