- Abstract
This paper presents a strategy based on binary labelling of nodes for the creation of anti-loop formulations from existing strategies. This strategy prevents by default the formation of odd cycles, therefore it can have important role in iterative procedures based on generating subtour elimination constraints. It can also be used to modify the classic strategies used in problems associated to graphs. In this paper we focus on this last application. The behavior of this strategy is analyzed with two problems associated with graphs, the Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem (ATSP) and the Steiner Problem, where two configurations that modify the Miller-Tucking-Zem- lig proposal to avoid cycles are compared. The experimental analysis shows that this strategy keep a good convergence, highlighting its use for the Steiner problem.

- Abstract
This paper presents two novel formulations for scheduling problems, namely order- position hybrid formulation (OPH) and order-disjunctive hybrid formulation (ODH), which extend and combine parts of existing formulation strategies. The first strategy (OPH) is based on sequence position and linear ordering formulations, adding relationships between constraints that allow relaxing some decision variables. The second approach (ODH) is based on linear ordering and disjunctive formulations. In this work, we prove ODH to be the most efficient formulation known so far. The experiments have been carried out with a large set of problems, which consider single machines and identical parallel machines. Computational results show that OPH is better than the rest of the existing formulations for the case of weighted completion objectives, while ODH turns out to be the best approach for most scenarios studied.

- Abstract
Manganese (Mn) induces cognitive disorders and basal forebrain (BF) cholinergic neuronal loss, involved on learning and memory regulation, which could be the cause of such cognitive disorders. However, the mechanisms through which it induces these effects are unknown. We hypothesized that Mn could induce BF cholinergic neuronal loss through oxidative stress generation, cholinergic transmission and AChE variants alteration that could explain Mn cognitive disorders. This study shows that Mn impaired cholinergic transmission in SN56 cholinergic neurons from BF through alteration of AChE and ChAT activity and CHT expression. Moreover, Mn induces, after acute and long-term exposure, AChE variants alteration and oxidative stress generation that leaded to lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation. Finally, Mn induces cell death on SN56 cholinergic neurons and this effect is independent of cholinergic transmission alteration, but was mediated partially by oxidative stress generation and AChE variants alteration. Our results provide new understanding of the mechanisms contributing to the harmful effects of Mn on cholinergic neurons and their possible involvement in cognitive disorders induced by Mn., Banco Santander, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Depto. de Farmacología y Toxicología, Fac. de Veterinaria, TRUE, pub

- Abstract
Paraquat (PQ) is a widely used non-selective contact herbicide shown to produce memory and learning deficits after acute and repeated exposure similar to those induced in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the complete mechanisms through which it induces these effects are unknown. On the other hand, cholinergic and glutamatergic systems, mainly in the hippocampus, are involved on learning, memory and cell viability regulation. An alteration of hippocampal cholinergic or glutamatergic transmissions or neuronal cell loss may induce these effects. In this regard, it has been suggested that PQ may induce cell death and affect cholinergic and glutamatergic transmission, which alteration could produce neuronal loss. According to these data, we hypothesized that PQ could induce hippocampal neuronal loss through cholinergic and glutamatergic transmissions alteration. To prove this hypothesis, we evaluated in hippocampal primary cell culture, the PQ toxic effects after 24h and 14 consecutive days exposure on neuronal viability and the cholinergic and glutamatergic mechanisms related to it. This study shows that PQ impaired acetylcholine levels and induced AChE inhibition and increased CHT expression only after 14days exposure, which suggests that acetylcholine levels alteration could be mediated by these actions. PQ also disrupted glutamate levels through induction of glutaminase activity. In addition, PQ induced, after 24h and 14days exposure, cell death on hippocampal neurons that was partially mediated by AChE variants alteration and cholinergic and gultamatergic transmissions disruption. Our present results provide new view of the mechanisms contributing to PQ neurotoxicity and may explain cognitive dysfunctions observed after PQ exposure., Banco Santander, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Depto. de Farmacología y Toxicología, Fac. de Veterinaria, TRUE, pub

16. Jano Bifronte: el poder de la contradicción

- Abstract
The two heads of Janus Bifronte looking towards opposite faces are the contrast between opposites: the contradiction between the past and the future, between the territorial scale and the scale of detail, between the local and the universal, between craftsmanship and technology or between the deductive method (from the general to the particular) and the inductive method (from the particular to the general), in addition to other pairs of opposites. This paper will analyze as case studies the Projects 6 and Projects 9 courses of the E.T.S. de Arquitectura from the Universidad de Granada.

Molecular rotors are a subclassification of molecular machines and are vital for the develop of innovative technologies in various fields. This paper explores exclusively the light-driven hemithioindigo (HTI) based molecular rotors, varieties, synthetic routes, photoisomerization mechanism, and its physical, chemical, and photochromic properties. For this, an exploratory analysis was carried out, from which it was concluded that one of the properties that gives these rotors an advantage over other structures is their extremely fast unidirectional rotation when irradiated with visible light. In addition, their multiple applications and development prospects derived from the exploit of their properties, making these compounds an interesting proposal for innovation in scientific research. The Master in Architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), known as Máster Habilitante (March) has been implemented at Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) since the 2015-2016 academic year. As part of its content, the Qualifying Master's Degree contemplates the preparation and presentation of a Trabajo Fin de Máster (TFM), which includes the declared continuity "of reason" of the old Trabajo Fin de Carrera (PFC) in the new teaching organization, according to expresses the current Curriculum (Plan 2010). The recent implementation of this new mode of access to the professional qualification of architects graduated from the UPM, as a consequence of the international homologation processes framed in the process initiated by the Bologna Declaration (1999), has produced an immediate but not always thoughtful comparative analysis with the previous system, that of the PFC. The objective of this paper is to provide an adequate conceptual framework for the comparison between Trabajo Fin de Máster (TFM) and Proyecto Fin de Carrera (PFC) at ETSAM, through the formulation of some of its pedagogical bases [1]. Among these, the role of the temporary constraint [2] assumed by the new system will be highlighted, in which the preparation of the TFM is associated with a period of a single year, as well as the group work dynamics associated with the idea of "classroom" , "laboratory" or Design Studio, which connect the new teaching methodology with well-known international experiences, from the Italian Laboratori di Laurea to the Dutch MSc Design Studios. The validity of the figures of the "teacher" and the "disciple", inspired by the mythical stories about the Renaissance workshop, and more generally the studentteacher relationship, must be critically reconsidered in the new situation, in which times and processes are subject to pre-established guidelines and controls [3]. On the other hand, and beyond the contrast with the PFC, the role that the definition of an architectural program or content plays in the development of the new TFM, as well as the possibility that its development is assimilated to a research process with original contributions that go beyond the concept of "demonstration" of professional skills.

- Abstract
This paper presents a sliding mode control (SMC) for the "full-bridge Buck inverter–DC motor" system when a photovoltaic (PV) panel is considered as the power supply. The control executes the trajectory tracking task related to the angular velocity of the DC motor shaft without the need for electromechanical sensors. The proposed control is validated through realistic simulation results via Matlab-Simulink. In this regard, the system is constructed by using the electronic components of the specialized power systems library of Simscape. The results of the following four case studies are presented: (i) The performance of the closed-loop system considering two desired angular velocity profiles and three different incident solar irradiance shapes on the PV panel. (ii) An analysis associated with the primary energy source. (iii) A comparison of the proposed SMC versus a passive control. (iv) A study of the current ripple and its relationship with the execution of the tracking control task on the angular velocity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
[EN] The architect Javier Peña Peña (Madrid, 1913-Almería, 1976) compiled, between 1964 and 1976, a collection of 525 drawings of capitals that he requested from other colleagues, many of them renowned masters of Spanish architecture such as Alejandro de la Sota, Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza, Miguel Fisac, Fernando Higueras or Julio Cano Lasso, among others. The design of a capital reveals a critical, theoretical and intellectual positioning; it reflects the interest towards a certain technical and structural proposal; and it is claimed as a synthesis of intentions about what the contemporary architectural project is for us.This paper, which uses a taxonomy, will establish familiarities of the different capital designs, and will look for possible chronological relationships between each drawing and the professional and academic biographies of each of the authors., [ES] El arquitecto Javier Peña Peña (Madrid, 1913-Almería, 1976) recopiló, entre 1964 y 1976, una colección de 525 dibujos de capiteles que solicitaba a otros colegas, muchos de ellos reconocidos maestros de la arquitectura española como Alejandro de la Sota, Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza, Miguel Fisac, Fernando Higueras o Julio Cano Lasso, entre otros. - Abstract
A management connection is classified as ”in-band” when it requires IP connectivity between the administrator’s equipment and the device to be configured. Examples of this type of configuration session are accesses based on SSH, telnet, HTTPS, HTTP or SNMP. In all these cases, application layer protocols that run on top of the full TCP/IP stack are used. These kinds of sessions are most commonly used by network management workgroups because they facilitate remote administration. When for some reason (initial configuration of the device, serious configuration error, network incident, etc.) it is not possible to reach the devices to be managed, an ”out-of-band” connection must be used, i.e. a connection that does not use the organization’s IP network to access device management. Usually this type of access is done with a physical connection between the administrator’s machine and the console port of the network equipment to be configured. This type of access does not require IP connectivity, but forces the administrator to make a physical connection, which greatly limits remote management. In the Cybersecurity Master’s Degree, students must configure routers, switches and firewalls in several subjects. La aplicación web desarrollada se encuentra disponible en el siguiente repositorio de Git: https://github.com/jlgsanchez/TFG.git [Abstract] Network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) can be managed using two distinct strategies: ”in-band” and ”out-of-band”. Currently, the administration of these devices is done ”in-band”, through SSH connections from a virtual management machine. When students make a configuration error, the network devices are isolated and must physically go to the classroom to recover connectivity. This work aims to provide a solution to this problem by developing a web application that facilitates access to a console hub accessible through an ”out-of-band” network, i.e., a network other than the one used by students for internships. Another problem with these practices is that the network equipment must always be turned on, even if the students are not going to use it for a long period of time (e.g. a weekend). To minimize this problem, the application also has an integrated power management mechanism, which facilitates the remote powering on of the network equipment on demand by the students. The mechanism is unclear for the reported protective effect of hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning against oxidative stress in tissues, and the distinct effects of hyperbaric oxygen applied after stress. The trained mice were divided into three groups: the control, hyperbaric oxygenation preconditioning, and hyperbaric oxygenation applied after mild (fasting) or hard (prolonged exercise) stress. After preconditioning, we observed a decrease in basal levels of nitric oxide, tetrahydrobiopterin, and catalase despite the drastic increase in inducible and endothelial nitric oxide synthases. Moreover, the basal levels of glutathione, related enzymes, and nitrosative stress only increased in the preconditioning group. The control and preconditioning groups showed a similar mild stress response of the endothelial and neuronal nitric oxide synthases. At the same time, the activity of all nitric oxide synthase, glutathione (GSH) in muscle, declined in the experimental groups but increased in control during hard stress. The results suggested that hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning provoked uncoupling of nitric oxide synthases and the elevated levels of GSH in muscle during this study, while hyperbaric oxygen applied after stress showed a lower level of GSH but higher recovery post-exercise levels in the majority of antioxidant enzymes. We discuss the possible mechanisms of the redox response and the role of the nitric oxide in this process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[Abstract] The intermittency and instability of renewable energy systems, especially on a large scale, influences the quality and reliability of the grid. For this reason in particular, energy storage has become necessary to enable the full integration of renewable energies and to definitively decarbonize the energy sector. The different types of energy storage are classified as mechanical, electrical, thermal, electrochemical and chemical. Some of these types have commercially mature technologies such as pumped hydroelectric power plants, compressed air systems (CAES), batteries or some chemical storage systems. Pumped-storage power plants are the most mature technology and the one with the largest installed capacity in the world nowadays. The problem is that it is very limited by geography, like CAES. Battery systems can become a great opportunity as soon as it is possible to correct some problems such as shortage of materials, replacing them with others, or the current cost of some of the technologies. Large investments in the development of these systems are achieving these objectives and the cost of batteries is becoming lower and lower. Chemical storage systems such as hydrogen or ammonia provide a practical solution to large-scale storage without geographical limitations. Large-scale renewable energy plants combined with batteries and/or chemical storage systems are an effective method of storing surplus renewable energy for short and/or long periods of time and allow a free emissions energy sector. Throughout history, different pandemics have plagued humanity. Of all of them, except for Covid-19, since there has not yet been time to bring it to the big screen, there have been numerous representations in commercial cinema, some very relevant from the point of view of cinematographic quality and scientific quality. with which the scripts are documented. It would be unattainable to list each and every one of them. Therefore, in this article it is proposed to offer readers an example of each of these pandemics (Plague, Smallpox, Cholera, Flu and HIV) that may be useful for teaching and health education of the population.

In the last years, pattern-based programming has been recognized as a good practice for efficiently exploiting parallel hardware resources. Following this approach, multiple libraries have been designed for providing such high-level abstractions to ease the parallel programming. However, those libraries do not share a common interface. To pave the way, GrPPI has been designed for providing an intermediate abstraction layer between application developers and existing parallel programming frameworks like OpenMP, Intel TBB or ISO C++ threads. On the other hand, FastFlow has been adopted as an efficient object-based programming framework that may benefit from being supported as an additional GrPPI backend. However, the object-based approach presents some major challenges to be incorporated under the GrPPI type safe functional programming style. In this paper, we present the integration of FastFlow as a new GrPPI backend to demonstrate that structured parallel programming frameworks perfectly fit the GrPPI design. Additionally, we also demonstrate that GrPPI does not incur in additional overheads for providing its abstraction layer, and we study the programmability in terms of lines of code and cyclomatic complexity. In general, the presented work acts as reciprocal validation of both FastFlow (as an efficient, native structured parallel programming framework) and GrPPI (as an efficient abstraction layer on top of existing parallel programming frameworks). This work has been partially supported by the European Commission EU H2020-ICT-2014-1 Project RePhrase (No. 644235) and by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through TIN2016-79637-P “Towards Unification of HPC and Big Data Paradigms”.

[EN] The article exposes the creative, design and phenomenological process of the project design and construction of the Jacaranda House (2016-2018), a single-family exempt house located in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar, in Almería. Jacaranda House is built with an exposed concrete structure and formwork using the traditional system of wooden boards. In addition, the walls are built with rustic brick in some of its exterior faces. Jacaranda House work aims to presents itself as if it was an inhabited structure, an infrastructure arranged on the desert landscape of Cabo de Gata. The formal abstraction of this landscape coexists with the organicism with which the terracing of the plot and the garden is resolved. The following article is developed with the help of the plans, drawings and diagrams, as well as the final photographs and images of the construction process. A brief theoretical and historical reflection on the use of exposed concrete in domestic architecture will be linked to the description of the construction job., [ES] El artículo expone el proceso creativo, proyectual y de concepción fenomenológica del proyecto y construcción de la Casa Jacaranda (2016-2018), una vivienda unifamiliar exenta situada en el Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Níjar, en Almería. - Abstract
CRUE-CSIC (Acuerdos Transformativos 2021), Cadmium (Cd) single and repeated exposure produces cognitive dysfunctions. Basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN) regulate cognitive functions. BFCN loss or cholinergic neurotransmission dysfunction leads to cognitive disabilities. Thyroid hormones (THs) maintain BFCN viability and functions, and Cd disrupts their levels. However, Cd-induced BFCN damages and THs disruption involvement was not studied. To research this we treated male Wistar rats intraperitoneally with Cd once (1 mg/kg) or repetitively for 28 days (0.1 mg/kg) with/without triiodothyronine (T3, 40 µg/kg/day). Cd increased thyroid-stimulating-hormone (TSH) and decreased T3 and tetraiodothyronine (T4). Cd altered cholinergic transmission and induced a more pronounced neurodegeneration on BFCN, mediated partially by THs reduction. Additionally, Cd antagonized muscarinic 1 receptor (M1R), overexpressed acetylcholinesterase S variant (AChE-S), downregulated AChE-R, M2R, M3R and M4R, and reduced AChE and choline acetyltransferase activities through THs disruption.

In this work we study in a general way the scheduling of jobs in intervals, focusing on the problems of scheduling jobs in variable intervals. At the beginning, a more theoretical vision of this type of problems is developed, then, to enter into the experimentation with three models, which will be seen first in a mathematical way, and then implement them in the Lingo language. It also includes an algorithm and its implementation in Python to extract the model data from a battery of problems. Finally, based on the execution times of the problems generated, a comparison will be made between the behaviors of the three models studied in relation to the problems executed to end up finding the most suitable one to solve them.
