1. RDP: Ranked Differential Privacy for Facial Feature Protection in Multiscale Sparsified Subspace

Abstract

With the widespread sharing of personal face images in applications' public databases, face recognition systems faces real threat of being breached by potential adversaries who are able to access users' face images and use them to intrude the face recognition systems. In this paper, we propose a novel privacy protection method in the multiscale sparsified feature subspaces to protect sensitive facial features, by taking care of the influence or weight ranked feature coefficients on the privacy budget, named "Ranked Differential Privacy (RDP)". After the multiscale feature decomposition, the lightweight Laplacian noise is added to the dimension-reduced sparsified feature coefficients according to the geometric superposition method. Then, we rigorously prove that the RDP satisfies Differential Privacy. After that, the nonlinear Lagrange Multiplier (LM) method is formulated for the constraint optimization problem of maximizing the utility of the visualization quality protected face images with sanitizing noise, under a given facial features privacy budget. Then, two methods are proposed to solve the nonlinear LM problem and obtain the optimal noise scale parameters: 1) the analytical Normalization Approximation (NA) method with identical average noise scale parameter for real-time online applications; and 2) the LM optimization Gradient Descent (LMGD) numerical method to obtain the nonlinear solution through iterative updating for more accurate offline applications. Experimental results on two real-world datasets show that our proposed RDP outperforms other state-of-the-art methods: at a privacy budget of 0.2, the PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of the RDP is about ~10 dB higher than (10 times as high as) the highest PSNR of all compared methods., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures

6. Integrated Waterflooding Effect Evaluation Methodology for Carbonate Fractured–Vuggy Reservoirs Based on the Unascertained Measure–Mahalanobis Distance Theory.

Abstract

The waterflooding effect evaluation of carbonate fractured–vuggy reservoirs constitutes a comprehensive multiple-information decision-making process involving quantitative unascertained measure theory. This paper establishes a novel comprehensive methodology to evaluate the waterflooding effects of carbonate fractured–vuggy reservoirs for the first time. A new evaluation grading criteria is proposed using the Mahalanobis distance method based on the multi-index comprehensive unascertained measure theory derived from a modified five-scale analytical hierarchy process–entropy weight method. The actual field data from the carbonate fractured–vuggy reservoirs and the nine evaluation indices are specifically applied to demonstrate the calculation process for the construction of the grading system model on the waterflooding effects and to verify the accuracy of the Mahalanobis distance method by comparing the calculation results with the Minkowski and Euclidean distance methods. The proposed methodology facilitates the effective evaluation of the waterflooding strategies implemented in carbonate fractured–vuggy reservoirs with three categories; the ones with outstanding performance usually demonstrated favorable index characteristics, with substantial contributions to the enhanced oil recovery, manifesting with complete well patterns, a balance in the injection–production dynamics, excellent waterflooding utilization, and control competence. In contrast, fractured–vuggy units with fair waterflooding performance revealed limitations in the enhanced oil recovery. It can also be inferred that the mediocre waterflooding performance of the fractured–vuggy units is associated with incomplete well patterns, an imbalance in the injection–production dynamics, low waterflooding utilization, and a negligible waterflooding effect. The results in this study show that this newly proposed integrated model can effectively assess the waterflooding effects quantitatively and provide a more precise scientific basis for evaluating the waterflooding effects in carbonate fractured–vuggy reservoirs, with potential applicability in other fields. Abstract

Convolutional neural networks (CNN) have become essential for many scientific and industrial applications, such as image classification and pattern detection. Among the devices that can implement neural networks, SRAM based FPGAs are a popular option due to their excellent parallel computing capability and good flexibility. However, SRAM-FPGAs are susceptible to radiation effects, which limits its application on safety critical applications. In this paper, the reliability of an accelerator based on the advanced Instruction-Set Architecture is evaluated based on hardware fault injection experiments. Each main module of the accelerator is evaluated separately, and the impact of parallelism and model features on the accelerator reliability is also examined. The experimental results reveal some important conclusions in terms of general hardware reliability and also of the particular model reliability. First, over 99% of SEUs on the computation modules will cause accuracy loss, and the reliability improves for higher parallelism. Second, a large portion of SEUs on the data mover and the instruction scheduler will cause system corruptions due to abnormal interactions with the ARM or other modules. Third, nonlinear activation and pooling layers are effective in reducing the effect of SEUs on computation modules, so models that use these layers tend to be more robust. The results provide a deep understanding of the impact of errors on CNNs implemented on ISA based FPGA accelerators (e.g., the Xilinx DPU).

11. Dyeing Procedures of Polyester Fiber in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Using a Special Dyeing Frame

Abstract

Supercritical CO2 fluid dyeing, a new type of anhydrous dyeing technology, has the advantage of high uptake rate, short dyeing process, recycling of dyes and CO2, and zero discharge. This study investigated a dyeing technique of loose fibers using supercritical CO2 as solvent to replace water. Based on the existing characteristics of the self-developed supercritical CO2 dyeing equipment, a special dyeing frame of loose fibers was designed. Using the dyeing frame and inner and outer dyeing processes, polyester fibers were dyed with disperse red 153# maternal dyes at temperatures of 80–140?, pressures of 17–29MPa and time of 20–80min, respectively. The experimental results revealed that the dyeing performance of fibers was good on the dyeing frame, as well as with a favorably increased temperature, pressure and time. Dyeing temperature had a strong influence on the color yield. The dyeing results were compared with those of polyester fibers dyed with disperse red 153# dyes. With the special dyeing frame of loose fibers, color fastness to washing and artificial light was generally similar to conventional aqueous medium methods.

13. The Conservation and Application of Three Hypothetical Protein Coding Gene for Direct Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Sputum Specimens.

Abstract

Background: Accurate and early diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) is of major importance in the control of TB. One of the most important technical advances in diagnosis of tuberculosis is the development of nucleic acid amplification (NAA) tests. However, the choice of the target sequence remains controversial in NAA tests. Recently, interesting alternatives have been found in hypothetical protein coding sequences from mycobacterial genome. Methodology/Principal Findings: To obtain rational biomarker for TB diagnosis, the conservation of three hypothetical genes was firstly evaluated in 714 mycobacterial strains. The results showed that SCAR1 (Sequenced Characterized Amplified Region) based on Rv0264c coding gene showed the highest conservation (99.8%) and SCAR2 based on Rv1508c gene showed the secondary high conservation (99.7%) in M. tuberculosis (MTB) strains. SCAR3 based on Rv2135c gene (3.2%) and IS6110 (8%) showed relatively high deletion rate in MTB strains. Secondly, three SCAR markers were evaluated in 307 clinical sputum from patients in whom TB was suspected or patients with diseases other than TB. The amplification of IS6110 and 16SrRNA sequences together with both clinical and bacteriological identification was as a protocol to evaluate the efficacy of SCAR markers. The sensitivities and specificities, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of all NAA tests were higher than those of bacteriological detection. In four NAA tests, IS6110 and SCAR3 showed the highest PPV (100%) and low NPV (70% and 68.8%, respectively), and SCAR1 and SCAR2 showed the relatively high PPV and NPV (97% and 82.6%, 95.6% and 88.8%, respectively). Conclusions/Significance: Our result indicated that SCAR1 and SCAR2 with a high degree of sequence conservation represent efficient and promising alternatives as NAA test targets in identification of MTB. Moreover, the targets developed from this study may provide more alternative targets for the development of a multisite system to effectively detect MTB in samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
