Abstract

The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the R value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of Ruds and R at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than 2.6% at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 1.9%. Together with the previous precise R measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84–3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision R measurement near the charmonium production threshold.

Abstract

The product of the electronic width of the ψ(2S) meson and the branching fraction of its decay to the muon pair was measured in the e+e−→ψ(2S)→μ+μ− process using nine data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.5 pb−1 collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider:Γee×Bμμ=19.3±0.3±0.5eV. Adding the previous KEDR results on hadronic and leptonic channels, the values of the ψ(2S) electronic width were obtained under two assumptions: either with the assumption of lepton universalityΓee=2.279±0.015±0.042keV or without it, summing up hadronic and three independent leptonic channelsΓee=2.282±0.015±0.042keV. Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we have determined the values of R at thirteen points of the center-of-mass energy between 1.84 and 3.05 GeV. The achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.9% at most of the energy points with a systematic uncertainty less than 2.4%.

Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we have measured the values of Ruds and R at seven points of the center-of-mass energy between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV. The total achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.3% at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 2.1%. At the moment it is the most accurate measurement of R(s) in this energy range.

Abstract

We present the analysis of all KEDR data on the determination of J/ψ and ψ(2S) masses. The data comprise six scans of J/ψ and seven scans of ψ(2S) which were performed at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider in 2002–2008. The beam energy was determined using the resonance depolarization method. The detector and accelerator conditions during scans were very different that increases the reliability of the averaged results. The analysis accounts for partial correlations of systematic uncertainties on the masses. The following mass values were obtained:MJ/ψ=3096.900±0.002±0.006 MeV,Mψ(2S)=3686.099±0.004±0.009 MeV. These results supersede our previous measurements published in 2003 and 2012.

Abstract

Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the J/ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay J/ψ→γηc as well as ηc mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained Γγηc0=2.98±0.18−0.33+0.15keV, Mηc=2983.5±1.4−3.6+1.6MeV/c2, Γηc=27.2±3.1−2.6+5.4MeV. Keywords: Charmonium, Radiative decays

At the VEPP-4M collider the record accuracy of 10−6 of an absolute beam energy calibration was achieved with the resonant depolarization technique in the energy range including the J/ψ, ψ(2S), ψ(3770) resonances as well as the τ - lepton production threshold. This report discusses the methods, equipment and the results.

Abstract

The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the $R$ value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than $2.6\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $1.9\%$. Together with the previous precise $R$ measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84-3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision $R$ measurement near the charmonium production threshold., arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1610.02827 and substantial text overlap with arXiv:1510.02667

Abstract

The product of the electronic width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fractions of its decay to hadrons and electrons has been measured using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The obtained values are $$ \begin{array}{c}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=5.550\pm 0.056\pm 0.089\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{\mathrm{hadrons}}\left(J/\psi \right)=4.884\pm 0.048\pm 0.078\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=0.3331\pm 0.0066\pm 0.0040\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}.\hfill \end{array} $$ Γ e e J / ψ = 5.550 ± 0.056 ± 0.089 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ hadrons J / ψ = 4.884 ± 0.048 ± 0.078 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ e e J / ψ = 0.3331 ± 0.0066 ± 0.0040 keV . The uncertainties shown are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the result presented and the world-average value of the electronic branching fraction, one obtains the total width of the J/ψ meson: $$ \Gamma =92.94\pm 1.83\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}. $$ Γ = 92.94 ± 1.83 keV . These results are consistent with the previous experiments.

Abstract

We present the analysis of all KEDR data on the determination of J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) masses. The data comprise six scans of J / ψ and seven scans of ψ ( 2 S ) which were performed at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in 2002–2008. The beam energy was determined using the resonance depolarization method. The detector and accelerator conditions during scans were very different that increases the reliability of the averaged results. The analysis accounts for partial correlations of systematic uncertainties on the masses. The following mass values were obtained: M J / ψ = 3096.900 ± 0.002 ± 0.006 MeV , M ψ ( 2 S ) = 3686.099 ± 0.004 ± 0.009 MeV . These results supersede our previous measurements published in 2003 and 2012.

Abstract

Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the J / ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay J / ψ → γ η c as well as η c mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained Γ γ η c 0 = 2.98 ± 0.18 − 0.33 + 0.15 keV , M η c = 2983.5 ± 1.4 − 3.6 + 1.6 MeV / c 2 , Γ η c = 27.2 ± 3.1 − 2.6 + 5.4 MeV .

Abstract

The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the J / ψ meson has been measured using direct J / ψ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The result Γ e + e − ( J / ψ ) / Γ μ + μ − ( J / ψ ) = 1.0022 ± 0.0044 ± 0.0048 ( 0.65 % ) is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for J / ψ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.

Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we have determined the values of R at thirteen points of the center-of-mass energy between 1.84 and 3.05 GeV. The achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.9 % at most of the energy points with a systematic uncertainty less than 2.4 % .

Abstract

A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the ψ ( 2 S ) resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in three scans of the ψ ( 2 S ) – ψ ( 3770 ) energy range. Fitting the energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the ψ ( 2 S ) we obtained the mass value M = 3686.114 ± 0.007 ± 0.011 − 0.012 + 0.002 MeV and the product of the electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons Γ e e × B h = 2.233 ± 0.015 ± 0.037 ± 0.020 keV . The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third uncertainty quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the single-photon e + e − annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this work. Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments. Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the total width of the ψ ( 2 S ) : Γ e e = 2.282 ± 0.015 ± 0.038 ± 0.021 keV , Γ = 296 ± 2 ± 8 ± 3 keV . These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than any of the previous experiments.

The upper limit on the leptonic width of a narrow resonance Γ e e R ⋅ Br ( R → h a d r ) 120 eV has been obtained (at 90% C.L.).

Abstract

We present a study of the inclusive photon spectrum from 6.3 million J/ψ decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of the radiative decay J/ψ → ηcγ, ηc width and mass. Taking into account an asymmetric photon line shape we obtain: Mηc = (2978.1 ± 1.4 ± 2.0) MeV/c2, Γηc = (43.5 ± 5.4 ± 15.8) MeV, [Formula: see text].

Abstract

The products of the electron width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fraction of its decays to the lepton pairs were measured using data from the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The results are Γee×Γee/Γ=0.3323±0.0064(stat.)±0.0048(syst.) keV, Γee×Γμμ/Γ=0.3318±0.0052(stat.)±0.0063(syst.) keV. Their combinations Γee×(Γee+Γμμ)/Γ=0.6641±0.0082(stat.)±0.0100(syst.) keV, Γee/Γμμ=1.002±0.021(stat.)±0.013(syst.) can be used to improve the accuracy of the leptonic and full widths and test leptonic universality.

Abstract

The status of the experiment on the precise $\tau$ lepton mass measurement running at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the $\tau^+\tau^-$ cross section behaviour around the production threshold. The preliminary result based on 6.7 pb$^{-1}$ of data is $m_{\tau}=1776.80^{+0.25}_{-0.23} \pm 0.15$ MeV. Using 0.8 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $\psi'$ peak the preliminary result is also obtained: $\Gamma_{ee}B_{\tau\tau}(\psi') = 7.2 \pm 2.1$ eV., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures; The 9th International Workshop on Tau-Lepton Physics, Tau06

Abstract

An experiment, using the new detector Kedr, on the precise measurement of the τ-lepton mass is being readied on the VEPP-4M. The resonance depolarization method is used for absolute calibration of the particle energy. The main difficulty in using a polarized beam at the τ-lepton production threshold (1777 MeV) is the closeness of an integral spin resonance (1763 MeV). Experiments observing the polarization of particles in VEPP-4M after injection of the polarized beam from the VEPP-3 storage booster with different detunings from resonance have been performed. For comparison, the depolarization time of a beam due to quantum fluctuations in the presence of characteristic disturbances of the guiding field is calculated. The temporal stability of the energy indications is studied.

Abstract

Using the MD-1 detector at the VEPP-4e+e− strorage ring we have measured the inclusive Λ and370-1 production rates in direct Γ(1S) decays $$\begin{gathered} \left\langle {n_\Lambda (\Upsilon (1S)_{dir} )} \right\rangle = 0.194 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.017, \hfill \\ \left\langle {n_\Xi - (\Upsilon (1S)_{dir} )} \right\rangle = 0.038 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.009. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The Λ momentum spectrum in direct Γ(1S) decays was obtained.

Abstract

Analyzing the data recorded with the MD-1 detector operated at the VEPP-4 storage ring we have determined the ϒ(1S) resonance leptonic partial width and mass. We find $$\begin{gathered} \Gamma _{ee} = 1.29 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.03keV, \hfill \\ M = 9460.59 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.05MeV/c^2 \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ M=9460.59±0.09±0.05 MeV/c2. This new value of the ϒ(1S) mass should supersede the previously published value [11] based on almost the same statistics.

Abstract

The total cross section for γγ→hadrons was measured as a function of the invariant massW of the system (1.25 to 4.25 GeV) at thee+e−-collider VEPP-4 with the detector MD-1. For the first time the data were obtained by detecting both scattered leptons with almost zero emission angles. The mean squared four momentum transfer 〈q2〉 is −0.005 GeV2, the rmsW resolution is 100–250 MeV. The data on the mean charged multiplicity 〈nC〉 are well described by the function 〈nC〉=(1.62 ±0.37)+(1.83±0.45)·ln(W(GeV)). TheW dependence of the total cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction σ(nb)=240+270/W(GeV).

In the experiment withe+e−-beams performed at the VEPP-4 storage ring with the MD-1 detector we have measuredBμμ, the branching ratio for the decay of Υ(1S) state intoμ+μ−. We obtainedBμμ=(2.12+0.20+0.10)%. It is shown that the continuum and resonance interference should be taken into account. High precision mass measurements in $\Psi$ and $\Upsilon$ families performed in 1980-1984 at the VEPP-4 collider with OLYA and MD-1 detectors are revisited. The corrections for the new value of the electron mass are presented. The effect of the updated radiative corrections has been calculated for the $J/\Psi(1S)$ and $\Psi(2S)$ mass measurements.

Results of a measurement of the two-photon widths of thea2, η′, η with the detector MD-1 at thee+e− collider VEPP-4 are presented. The specific feature of this experiment is tagging of at least one scattered electron. Abstract

A new high precision measurement of the $J/\psi$- and $\psi'$-meson masses has been performed at the VEPP-4M collider using the KEDR detector. The resonant depolarization method has been employed for the absolute calibration of the beam energy. The following mass values have been obtained: $M_{J/\psi} = 3096.917 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.007$ MeV, $M_{\psi'} = 3686.111 \pm 0.025 \pm 0.009$ MeV. The relative measurement accuracy has reached $4. 10^{-6}$ for $J/\psi$ and $7. 10^{-6}$ for $\psi'$, approximately 3 times better than in the previous precise experiments., Comment: 12 pages, 4 tables, 10 figures

Abstract

The method of resonance depolarization has been used for the absolute energy calibration of storage ring VEPP-4. The beam polarization was measured by the up-down asymmetry of the synchrotron radiation back-scattered on the colliding beam. By scanning the ϒ resonance with the MD-1 detector, we obtained a massM=9460.59 ±0.12 MeV.

Abstract

A high precision measurement of the υ-meson mass has been performed at the storage ring VEPP-4 using the MD-1 detector. Abstract

In investigating the e + e − → e + e − γ process the radiation probability is oberved to be substantially less than that calculated in the standard QED. The effect is due to the fact that the characteristic impact parameters in the process are much greater than the transverse sizes of the colliding beams. The Compton scattering γ-spectrum of the synchrotron radiation by a colliding beam is measured.

Abstract

The average mass of the K + and K − was measured in the reaction e + e − → φ → K + K − at the VEPP 2M storage ring as the difference of the energy of the colliding beam and the kaon kinetic energy and was found to be 493.670 ± 0.029 MeV. The energy of the colliding beams was determined by the resonance depolarization method. The kaon kinetic energy was found from range measurements in nuclear emulsion.

This has allowed the accuracy of the mass measurement to be improved by a factor of ten. The following mass values of ϒ, ϒ′ and ϒ″ -mesons have been obtained: M ( ϒ )=9460.6±0.4 MeV, M ( ϒ ′)=10023.8±0.5 MeV, M ( ϒ ″)=10355.5±0.5 MeV.

Abstract

We report the final results of a study of the ψ ( 3770 ) meson using a data sample collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The data analysis takes into account interference between the resonant and nonresonant D D ¯ production, where the latter is related to the nonresonant part of the energy-dependent form factor F D . The vector dominance approach and several empirical parameterizations have been tried for the nonresonant F D N R ( s ) . Our results for the mass and total width of ψ ( 3770 ) are M = 3779.2 − 1.7 + 1.8 − 0.7 + 0.5 − 0.3 + 0.3 MeV , Γ = 24.9 − 4.0 + 4.6 − 0.6 + 0.5 − 0.9 + 0.2 MeV , where the first, second and third uncertainties are statistical, systematic and model, respectively. For the electron partial width two possible solutions have been found: ( 1 ) Γ e e = 154 − 58 + 79 − 9 + 17 − 25 + 13 eV , ( 2 ) Γ e e = 414 − 80 + 72 − 26 + 24 − 10 + 90 eV . Our statistics are insufficient to prefer one solution to another. The Solution (2) mitigates the problem of non- D D ¯ decays but is disfavored by potential models. It is shown that taking into account the resonance–continuum interference in the near-threshold region affects resonance parameters, thus the results presented cannot be directly compared with the corresponding PDG values obtained ignoring this effect.

Abstract

Abstract

A comparison of the electron and positron anomalous magnetic moments has been performed using the resonance depolarization method for the VEPP-2M storage ring beams. It has been shown, that the difference between anomalous magnetic moments of electron and positron doesn't exceed 1.0 × 10 −5 with 95% confidence level in agreement with CPT-theorem prediction on equality of the particle and antiparticle magnetic moments. The achieved accuracy is two orders better than that available up to now.

Abstract

The authors have performed experiments to measure the lifetimes and dimensions of electron and positron beams in relation to the number of particles in the beam, in various conditions in the absence of coherent oscillations. From the results they have isolated effects due to mutual scattering by the particles in the beam. The theoretical results are in good agreement with these experiments. The authors have studied the effect of compensating ions on the characteristics of the electron beam.

Abstract

We describe recent results from the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4Mcollider. They include: a search for narrow resonances between 1.85 and 3.1 GeV, a test of leptonic universality by comparing partial widths of the J/ψ resonance into electron and muon pairs, a determination of the main parameters of the ψ(2S) and a measurement of ψ(3770) parameters.

Abstract

We plan to measure the mass of /spl tau/ lepton near the threshold of its production with an accuracy 10/sup -4/ or better in the experiment with the detector KEDR at the e/sup +/e/sup -/ collider VEPP-4M using the method of resonance depolarization for calibration of particle energy. The scenario of the experiment, the developed systems of polarimeters and the depolarizer are described. Some points regarding beam polarization and energy calibration accuracy are considered.

Abstract

The results of 2 γ-quantum annihilation of e+e− pairs at the total energy of 2E = 1 GeV and large angles of the outgoing quanta are given. Simultaneously the same apparatus detects the elastic scattered electrons. Comparison of the measured ratio of γ-quanta to electrons with the calculated ratio, allows us to obtain the validity limit of quantum electrodynamics Λ > 1.3 GeV.
