1. Model-driven design and implementation of discrete event control for a machine tool control system

Abstract

Design and implementation of discrete event control for machine tool control system is extremely complicated. In current industrial practice, designers tend to derive implementations from a rough system design in terms of system specification analysis. Such an implementation-based method leads to ad hoc system design and implementation, with system performance that relies highly on the designers' experiences. Usually a long 'cycle and debug' stage is needed to. x errors after a prototype system has been built. In addition, it is always difficult to build a new system by modifying an existing one when the specification is changed. In this paper, the authors propose a model-driven method to enhance the design and implementation of discrete event control for a machine tool control system. Based on the system specification, an executable model is first built. This model is then evaluated by simulation to eliminate the design errors before implementation. Finally for system implementation, a separate process engine with operation rules is obtained from the model. A key module of machine tool control system is used to illustrate the proposed method.

2. An intelligent NC program processor for CNC system of machine tool

Abstract

NC program interpreting is one of the most important tasks of CNC in machine tool system. The existing CNC systems only support vendor-specific NC program input, which restrict the applying of other similar functional NC programs with different program format. Especially for those users owning several machine tools with different CNC from the same provider, the diversity of NC programs dramatically increases their cost and time on operator training and machine tool maintenance. In order to deal with the variety of NC program, an intelligent NC program processor (NCPP) is proposed in this paper. The proposed NCPP has a novel structure with separated NC specification dictionary and processing engine, which ease the CNC system to adapt to a new NC program specification by only updating the NC specification dictionary (NCSD). This paper explains the NC specification dictionary structure by using EBNF representation, which is further implemented in tool command language, an embedded script language tool. Meanwhile, the unchanged processing engine has been designed from a compiler's point of view to process the data dictionary. A NCPP prototype is built to evaluate the proposed design. Case study shows that the proposed NCPP handles different NC program inputs successfully. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract

We have found chaotic responses observed in the capacitance-npn-transistor pair and have clarified its mathematical characteristics and physical mechanism. It is a very simple circuit compared with any chaos-generating circuits ever proposed and can be implemented by typical BiCMOS process for integration, yet its characteristics contain many functions and are easily controllable. We also proposed an application of this circuit to a neuron circuit and simulated its characteristics in detail. Abstract

The nonpinchoff model for a short channel MOSFET enables the interpretation of the ambiguous boundary between the saturation and linear portion of the MOSFET. Two-dimensional Poisson equations are solved using accurate horizontal electric fields. The advantage of this model over conventional models arises from the disappearance of the point where the horizontal electric field moves toward infinity. This point is normally called the pinchoff point.

Abstract

Little is known about the temporal changes in Helicobacter pylori density and B-cell clonality during the evolution from chronic gastritis to gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Biopsied specimens from 28 patients with chronic gastritis who developed gastric MALT lymphoma (group A) and from 24 similar patients who did not (group B) during an equivalent follow-up period (mean, 42 months) were retrospectively scored for histological features of MALT lymphoma (0 to 5) and H. pylori density (0 to 3). B-cell clonality was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). During the observation period, the H. pylori density in group A decreased significantly in comparison with group B; the mean change in H. pylori density (final minus initial density) per 1000 days was -1.4 for group A and +0.2 for group B (P < 0.005). Monoclonality was detected more frequently in group A (79%) than in group B (21%; P < 0.005), and it preceded the histological evidence of malignant transformation in 64% of those patients who showed monoclonality in group A. These results suggest that H. pylori is thus more closely associated with the precursor or initial phase in the genesis of gastric MALT lymphoma than with the later phase, as its density decreases as the tumor progresses. The detection of B-cell monoclonality by PCR is thus of possible use for predicting the histological genesis of gastric lymphoma.

Abstract

1. The effects of betaxolol, (+/-)-1-[4-[2-(cyclopropylmethoxy) ethyl] phenoxy]-3-(isopropylamino)-2-propanol hydrochloride, a beta 1-selective adrenoceptor antagonist, on voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels were investigated in single smooth muscle cells from guinea-pig mesenteric artery and portal vein using a whole-cell variant of the patch-clamp technique. Ca2+ channel currents were recorded with bath solutions contained 10 mM Ba2+ for arterial cells and 2 mM Ca2+ for venous cells. 2. Betaxolol inhibited Ca2+ channel currents dose-dependently in both mesenteric artery cells and portal vein cells. The two isomers, (+)-betaxolol and (-)-betaxolol (relative beta-antagonistic efficacies of 0.1 and 1, respectively), had similar potencies for inhibiting Ca2+ channel currents in portal vein cells. Propranolol did not inhibit the currents. Thus the inhibitory action of betaxolol on Ca2+ channel currents was independent of the beta-adrenoceptor. 3. The inhibitory action of betaxolol on Ca2+ channel currents was compared with that of diltiazem and of nifedipine in mesenteric artery cells. The current inhibition depended on the stimulation frequency with all drugs (use-dependent block). All drugs also accelerated the current decay and shifted the voltage-dependent inactivation curve in a negative direction. 4. In conclusion, betaxolol inhibited Ca2+ channel currents in vascular smooth muscle cells. The mode of inhibitory action was similar to that of diltiazem and nifedipine. Our results suggest that betaxolol is a unique beta-adrenoceptor antagonist that has a direct inhibitory action on voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels in vascular smooth muscle cells.
