Objectives: To investigate the effects of Cervical Mobilization (CM) and Clinical Pilates Exercises (CPE) in Cervigogenic Headache (CHA)., Methods: The 37 patients were randomized into the 3 groups. The CM for 1st group, CPE for 2nd group and CM+CPE for 3rd group were applied 3 days/a week for 6 weeks. Pain frequency, pain intensity, number of analgesic, were recorded. The posture was measured by Posture Screen application, the cervical range of motion by the CROM device, deep neck flexor muscle endurance by the pressurized biofeedback device. Evaluations were applied 2 times as pre-post treatment., Results: In within-group comparison a decrease in pain parameters, neck-shoulder postural deviation and an increase DNFE and CROM were observed in all groups ( p <0.05). In between-group comparison pain frequency, intensity and number of analgesics were significant changes in the CM and CM+CPE groups according to CPE (respectively p <0,001, p =0,001, p =0,018). Head and shoulder angulation were significant in the CPE and CM+CPE groups according to CM (respectively p =0.009, p =0,011). It was determined that the cervical right lateral flexion range of motion and right rotation were significant changes in the CM and CM+CPE groups according to CPE (respectively p =0,026, p =0,040). DNFE were significantly increased in CM+CPE according to CM and CPE ( p =0.001)., Conclusion: This study suggests that it would be beneficial to add CM and CPE to the treatment plans of patients with CHA., (Copyright: © Neurosciences.)

Background and Objectives : Physiotherapy approaches are used to eliminate the problems caused by cervicogenic headache (CHA), known as secondary headache associated with the structures of the upper cervical region. This study aimed to investigate the effects of cervical mobilization (CM) with clinical Pilates exercises (CPE) on pain, muscle stiffness and head-neck blood flow in CGH. Materials and Methods : A total of 25 patients participated in this randomized controlled study and were randomized into either the CM group or the CM+CPE group. All treatment methods were applied 3 days a week for 6 weeks. The outcome measure was headache intensity and frequency, the number of analgesics, muscle stiffness and vertebral artery (VA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) blood flow. Headache intensity was measured by a visual analogue scale, muscle stiffness by a myotonometer and blood flow by Doppler US. Evaluations were repeated after 6 weeks of treatment. Within-group comparisons were made by the Wilcoxon signed rank test, and between-group comparisons were made by the Mann-Whitney U test. Results : After treatments in the two groups, headache intensity and frequency and the number of analgesics decreased, the muscle stiffness of the suboccipital, upper trapezius and sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscles decreased, and the blood flow of the ICA and VA increased ( p < 0.05). There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of headache intensity ( p = 0.025) and muscle stiffness in SKM ( p = 0.044) in favor of the CM+CPE group. Conclusions : Non-pharmacological treatment approaches have an important role in CHA related to the upper cervical region. This study suggests that it would be beneficial to add CM in combination with CPE to the non-pharmacological treatment of patients with CHA.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between physical activity level and disease severity, anxiety level, sleep quality, and fatigue in patients followed up with COVID-19 diagnosis., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 111 volunteer patients who were receiving treatment with COVID-19 diagnosis at the Chest Diseases Polyclinic, Sanko University, Sani Konukoğlu Practice and Research Hospital, Gaziantep, Turkey between May 2021 and July 2021 were included in the study and classified clinically and radiologically. They were evaluated on the basis of demographic characteristics, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Fatigue Severity Scale., Results: Approximately 63% of the patients did not have a habit of exercise, while 52.3% of our patients were clinically mild cases, and 33.3% had normal lung tomography. While clinical disease severity was not associated with exercise habits, sleep quality was impaired in clinically severe patients., Conclusion: The results of our study suggested that physical inactivity is common. Anxiety is a frequent symptom in COVID-19 cases and also COVID-19 negatively affects sleep quality., (Copyright: © Saudi Medical Journal.)

Scientific research continues on new preventive and therapeutic strategies against severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). So far, there is no proven curative treatment, and a valid alternative therapeutic approach needs to be developed. This study is designed to evaluate the effect of quercetin in COVID-19 treatment. This was a single-centre, prospective randomized controlled cohort study. Routine care versus QCB (quercetin, vitamin C, bromelain) supplementation was compared between 429 patients with at least one chronic disease and moderate-to-severe respiratory symptoms. Demographic features, signs, laboratory results and drug administration data of patients were recorded. The endpoint was that QCB supplementation was continued throughout the follow-up period from study baseline to discharge, intubation, or death. The most common complaints at the time of hospital admission were fatigue (62.4%), cough (61.1%), anorexia (57%), thirst (53.7%), respiratory distress (51%) and chills (48.3%). The decrease in CRP and ferritin levels was higher in the QCB group (all Ps were < 0.05). In the QCB group, the increase in platelet and lymphocyte counts was higher (all Ps were < 0.05). QCB did not reduce the risk of events during follow-up. Adjustments for statistically significant parameters, including the lung stage, use of favipiravir and presence of comorbidity did not change the results. While there was no difference between the groups in terms of event frequency, the QCB group had more advanced pulmonary findings. QCB supplement is shown to have a positive effect on laboratory recovery. While there was no difference between the groups in terms of event frequency, QCB supplement group had more advanced pulmonar findings, and QCB supplement is shown to have a positive effect on laboratory recovery/results. Objective: This study aimed to develop the Turkish version of Identification of Functional Ankle Instability (TV&#95;IdFAI) scale and evaluate its validity and reliability., Methods: A total of 100 participants (54 men and 46 women; 50 volleyball players and 50 sedentary individuals) between 18 and 38 years of age were included this study. The construct validity, reference validity, sensitivity, specificity, and test-retest reliability of TV&#95;IdFAI were evaluated. For the test-retest reliability, the scale was applied to all participants again in 10-14 days. A correlation between the scale scores and test-retest results was examined with intraclass correlation coefficient. To evaluate the construct validity, a factor analysis method was used. For reference validity, a sports physician evaluated all participants and the clinical diagnoses were compared with total score of the scale. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated to evaluate the classification success of the scale with specified cutoff., Results: TV&#95;IdFAI scale was grouped under two separate factors. It was determined that the variance for factor 1, factor 2 and for scale was 46.68%, 15.70%, and 62.38%, respectively. There was a statistically significant relationship 0.74 (95% CI 0.64-0.84; p<0.001) between the physician's diagnosis and TV&#95;IdFAI in terms of reference validity. The sensitivity and specificity of TV&#95;IdFAI was 0.61 and 0.80, respectively. The reliability of TV&#95;IdFAI was 0.94 (95% CI 0.92-0.96; p<0.001)., Conclusion: This study shows that TV&#95;IdFAI is a simple, easy to apply, reliable, and valid scale to define functional ankle instability in Turkish population., Level of Evidence: Level II, Diagnostic study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the short term effects of home exercise program and virtual reality exergaming in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SAIS)., Methods: A total of 30 patients with SAIS were randomized into two groups which are Home Exercise Program (EX Group) (mean age: 40.6 ± 11.7 years) and Virtual Reality Exergaming Program (WII Group) (mean age: 40.33 ± 13.2 years). Subjects were assessed at the first session, at the end of the treatment (6 weeks) and at 1 month follow-up. The groups were assessed and compared with Visual Analogue Scale (based on rest, activity and night pain), Neer and Hawkins Tests, Scapular Retraction Test (SRT), Scapular Assistance Test (SAT), Lateral Scapular Slide Test (LSST) and shoulder disability (Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI))., Results: Intensity of pain was significantly decreased in both groups with the treatment (p < 0.05). The WII Group had significantly better results for all Neer test, SRT and SAT than the EX Group (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Virtual reality exergaming programs with these programs were found more effective than home exercise programs at short term in subjects with SAIS., Level of Evidence: Level I, Therapeutic study., (Copyright © 2017 Turkish Association of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between body composition, anaerobic performance and sprint performance of amputee soccer players. Fifteen amputee soccer players participated in this study voluntarily. Subjects' height, body weight, body mass index, body fat percentage (Jackson and Pollock formula) and somatotype characteristics (Heath-Carter system) were determined. The sprint performance at 10m, 20m and 30m was evaluated, whereas the counter movement jump (CMJ), relative CMJ (RCMJ), squat jump (SJ) and relative SJ (RSJ) tests were used for the determination of anaerobic performance. The results of the Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis indicated that body composition was significantly correlated with CMJ and SJ (p < 0.01), on the other hand, no measure of body composition was significantly related to the other component (p > 0.05). A significant correlation was found between CMJ, RCMJ, SJ, 10 m, 20 m and 30 m sprint performance (p < 0.05); whereas, in contrast, no measure of body composition was significantly related to the 10 m, 20 m and 30 m sprint performance (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the findings of the present study indicated that sprint performance was described as an essential factor in anaerobic performance whereas body composition and somatotype play a determinant role in anaerobic and sprint performance in amputee soccer players.

The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the left ventricular dimensions, mass index and function in school-aged swimmers by echocardiography. The study group consisted of 82 swimmers who participated in a systematic swimming training for at least six months, and the control group consisted of 41 sedentary children of similar age, sex and weight. In the study group, left ventricular dimensions and wall thicknesses, aortic root and left atrium diameters, and left ventricle mass index were significantly greater than the normal children (p < 0.05). However, there was no difference in the left ventricular systolic function (ejection fraction, shortening fraction) or in the left ventricular filling characteristics (p > 0.05). In conclusion, in childhood swimmers there was a significant increase in left ventricular dimensions, wall thicknesses and mass index, but no differences in the systolic function and filling characteristics of the left ventricle. Thus, information on endurance training participation is necessary to interpret quantitative echocardiographic data.
