Introducción. Los meningiomas son tumores extraaxiales que son originados a partir de las células de la aracnoides y son los tumores primarios más frecuentes del sistema nervioso central (SNC), adicionalmente existe un 70% mayor de probabilidad de que alguno de los hijos de una persona con tumor primario pueda presentarlo en algún momento de su vida, como es el caso de la persona reportada. Objetivo. Describir los cuidados perioperatorios de enfermería de una persona con diagnóstico médico de meningioma parietal izquierdo con base en el Proceso de Atención de Enfermería. Material y método. Estudio de caso observacional, descriptivo, con aplicación del proceso de enfermería y las taxonomías NANDA, NOC y NIC. Resultados. Durante el preoperatorio se logró una disminución significativa del nivel de ansiedad a través de la escucha activa y la explicación del procedimiento quirúrgico. Durante el transoperatorio se realizaron cuidados propios de la enfermera especialista quirúrgica, lo que permitió una recuperación inmediata y mediata en el postoperatorio, en el cual se obtuvo mejoría principalmente en la memoria. Discusión. Diversos estudios demuestran que los efectos secundarios posteriores a la cirugía dependen de las condiciones de cada persona, es por ello que se debe garantizar la atención hacia las respuestas humanas de las personas que son intervenidas quirúrgicamente, puesto que se ha justificado la alta incidencia de diversidad de secuelas o complicaciones. Conclusión. Es importante la aplicación del Proceso de Atención de Enfermería en el área quirúrgica pues garantiza una atención holística en la persona sometida a una intervención.

Background: Electronic health records kept by nurses when caring for perioperative patients are essential for ensuring the quality and safety of care. Objective: To identify the nursing focuses and interventions reported by nurses in electronic health records when caring for perioperative patients. Methodology: A retrospective observational study was conducted in the Central Operating Room and the Ambulatory Surgery Unit. The nursing documentation in the electronic health records kept from December 2016 to December 2022 were analyzed, in a total of 50,732 nursing focuses and 451,003 interventions. Results: The most frequently identified nursing diagnoses in nursing records were hypothermia (35.5%) and surgical wound (34.7%). Nursing interventions with referential integrity were of the observing type. Conclusion: Th nursing records about perioperative patients in the health information system focus on surveillance parameters related to safety and infection during the intraoperative period. Objetivo: evaluar el desperdicio generado por el procesamiento de instrumental quirúrgico consignado en cirugías ortopédicas electivas y proponer un modelo para el cálculo del desperdicio asociado al procesamiento de instrumental quirúrgico consignado. Método: estudio de caso, cuantitativo, descriptivo-exploratorio, realizado en un hospital universitario grande, en dos fases: (1) retrospectiva, mediante la consulta de registros administrativos de cirugías ortopédicas electivas canceladas, con previsión de uso de materiales consignados, para identificar las subespecialidades con mayor demanda; y (2) prospectiva, por medio de observaciones directas, no participantes, del procesamiento de instrumental quirúrgico consignado preparado para las cirugías identificadas, y de la propuesta de un modelo para el cálculo del desperdicio asociado al procesamiento de estos materiales. Resultados: se identificaron las cirugías de artroplastia de cadera, artrodesis de columna y artroplastia de rodilla con mayor demanda, resultando en 854 cajas de instrumental quirúrgico consignado procesado y sin uso. El desperdicio del procesamiento se estimó en R$ 34.340,18 (US$ 6,359.30). Conclusión: la ecuación propuesta permitió calcular el desperdicio relacionado con la producción y la no utilización de cajas de instrumental quirúrgico consignado para procedimientos ortopédicos, y puede equipar a los enfermeros para la planificación basada en datos institucionales, asistenciales y financieros, con el objetivo de aprovechar mejor los recursos por medio de la identificación del desperdicio.

Objetivo: Medir la tasa de adherencia al registro electrónico de la escala Munro en el periodo perioperatorio. Método: Estudio de cohorte retrospectivo basado en el análisis de historias clínicas en el año 2022, en un gran hospital privado filantrópico de la ciudad de São Paulo -BR. Los datos de cumplimentación se extrajeron en un informe de Excel y se analizaron en función de si se había cumplimentado la escala. Resultados: Se analizaron 22.743 registros de la escala Munro, correspondientes a 11.892 historias clínicas electrónicas. La tasa de adherencia fue del 98,45% en la fase preoperatoria, del 61,73% en la intraoperatoria y del 90,14% en la postoperatoria, con una tasa media del 83,44%. Los fallos en el registro estaban relacionados con la ausencia o cumplimentación parcial de los ítems de la escala y con la realización de la fase intra o postoperatoria sin evaluar la fase anterior. Conclusión: Este estudio contribuye a la práctica profesional al mostrar la necesidad de intervenciones educativas y mejoras en los procesos intraoperatorios para aumentar el cumplimiento de la evaluación de riesgos.

Objetivo: verificar la validez clínica de la proposición de un nuevo diagnóstico de enfermería denominado sed perioperatoria, basado en la precisión diagnóstica de sus indicadores clínicos, incluyendo la magnitud del efecto de sus factores etiológicos. Método: estudio de validación clínica diagnóstica con 150 pacientes quirúrgicos en un hospital universitario. Se recogieron variables sociodemográficas e indicadores clínicos relacionados con la sed. Se utilizó la técnica de análisis de clases latentes. Resultados: se propusieron dos modelos de clases latentes para las características definitorias. El modelo ajustado en el preoperatorio incluía: labios resecos, saliva espesa, lengua espesa, ganas de beber agua, informe del cuidador, garganta seca y deglución constante de saliva. En el postoperatorio: sequedad de garganta, saliva espesa, lengua espesa, constante deglución de saliva, ganas de beber agua, mal gusto en la boca. Los factores relacionados “temperatura ambiente elevada” y “sequedad de boca” se asocian a la presencia de sed, así como las condiciones asociadas “uso de anticolinérgicos” e “intubación”. La prevalencia de sed fue del 62,6% en el preoperatorio y del 50,2% en el postoperatorio inmediato. Conclusión: la proposición diagnóstica de la sed perioperatoria mostró buenos parámetros de precisión de sus indicadores clínicos y efectos etiológicos. Esta propuesta en una taxonomía de enfermería permitirá una mayor visibilidad, apreciación y tratamiento de este síntoma.

Introduction: pulmonary thromboendarterectomy is the treatment of choice and the only potentially curative option for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary arterial hypertension. Objective: To integrate the information available in the scientific literature on nurse involvement in pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. Method: integrative review for which a search of primary articles was carried out in databases such as: CUIDEN, SAGE, Springer, Scholar, Scopus, Taylor and Francis, PubMed, ScienceDirect and LILACS. Search strategies were defined in both English and Spanish, no period was established, a database was built with the information obtained and this was integrated in a narrative way. Results: 8 articles were included, 5 of them were topics reviews. Nurse plays a critical role, participating in the different intervention phases within the surgical context, promoting the patient’s hemodynamic evolution; skillfully detecting problems related to cardiac output, severe changes in pulmonary pressure, ventilatory needs applied to the patient and hydroelectrolytic management; it also dominates the complications that are the cornerstone derived from the procedure. Conclusions: The nurse plays in the processes of understanding the diagnosis, preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phase; However, there are limitations in the production of knowledge in this event of interest from nursing. Objective: to analyze the contributions of auriculotherapy to the health of nursing professionals in perioperative units. Method: exploratory, descriptive study developed with eight nursing professionals from perioperative units of a teaching hospital in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul. Data collected with semi-structured interview. Discursive textual analysis was applied. Results: a central category was built: repercussions of auriculotherapy for perioperative nursing professionals; it was unitized into a base unit and three categories of analysis. Conclusion: auriculotherapy proved to be a beneficial practice for the health of perioperative nursing professionals, while helping to relieve symptoms such as anxiety, stress, tiredness, irritability, bruxism and gastrointestinal discomforts, as well as improving sleep, interpersonal relationships with family members and the work team, reducing tobacco use and weight loss. Objective: to evaluate the intensity and discomfort caused by thirst in patients in the immediate postoperative period. Method: exploratory-descriptive study developed with patients hospitalized in the post-anesthetic recovery room of a public hospital in Paraná. Individuals over 18 years of age, of both sexes, with preserved cognitive function, hospitalized from June 2021 to January 2022, were evaluated. Thirst intensity and discomfort were measured by specific scales. Results: 150 patients were evaluated, with a mean of 43.9 years. Most were male (65.3%), without comorbidities (68.7%), underwent spinal anesthesia (58%) and orthopedic surgery (59.3%), with ongoing serotherapy (92.7%). The mean surgery time was 1.5 hours and 14.6 hours of fasting; 72.7% of the sample verbalized thirst, and 37.6% complained spontaneously. Conclusion: the research participants presented moderate intensity (6.6) and discomfort (7.6) of thirst in the postoperative period, making it necessary to discuss institutional intervention protocols to reduce such event. Objective: to evaluate the clinical predictors for dry eye and the nursing diagnosis Risk of dry eye in postoperative patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Method: cross-sectional study conducted between May and August, 2017. The sample was 157 adult patients undergoing elective surgical procedures. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: the clinical diagnosis of dry eye prevailed in 85.35% of patients, and the nursing diagnosis Risk of dry eye in 14.65%. Statistical differences were observed between hyperemia, excessive tearing and insufficient Schirmer test with the diagnosis of ocular dryness in the right eye and with the diagnosis Risk of dry eye. In the left eye the Schirmer test was insufficient. Conclusion: hyperemia, excessive tearing and insufficient Schirmer test are relevant perioperative clinical predictors to promote preventive measures and/or early detection of dry eye. Objective: to identify the leadership perceived by perioperative nurses and to determine the role of leadership predictors of patient safety in the operating room. Method: descriptive and explanatory study in a sample of 1,001 nurses, using the patient safety questionnaire in the operating room and Quinn’s leadership instrument adapted to health. The IBM SPSS Statistics application, version 25.0, was used in the data processing. Result: all leadership dimensions were higher than the midpoint of the scale (M>4). A minimum value was observed in the role of Innovator (M=4.63) and maximum in the Producer (M=5.04). The regression models allowed pointing out that leadership roles are predictors of patient safety in the operating room, especially the roles Monitor, Producer and Facilitator. Conclusion: perioperative nurses have moderately positive perception of leadership exercise, indicating the need to promote the development of different leadership roles exercised by perioperative management nurses. Objective: to assess the risk for the development of injuries related to surgical positioning. Method: a crosssectional study with a sample comprised by adults undergoing elective surgeries (n=146) in Paraná, Brazil. The Risk Assessment Scale for the Development of Injuries arising from Surgical Positioning was applied, with extraction of sociodemographic variables. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed. Results: men (49.3%) and women (50.7%) presented equal distribution of appointments, mostly in the Orthopedics specialty (39.7%). The following stood out as per the scale applied: use of conventional mattress + cotton field cushions as a support surface (100%); supine position (78%); upper limbs with opening less than 90º (70.5%); regional anesthesia (54.1%), and surgical time of 1h-2h (46.6%). A mean score of 17.6±3.29 points was found and 75.3% of the sample presented low risk for the development of injuries related to surgical positioning. Background: The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) program is a perioperative care pathway that aims to improve surgical outcomes and patient recovery. Nurses have a key role, particularly in preoperative consultations. Objectives: To plan, implement and evaluate the preoperative nursing consultation included in the ERAS® program. Methodology: This is a descriptive, quantitative study with three phases: planning (development of guidance documents), implementation (consultations), and evaluation (through a questionnaire and audit platform). The study was conducted with two non-probability samples, one without consultations before the ERAS® program implementation (n = 65) and the other with consultations (n = 93). Results: Ninety-six consultations were held, with 74.2% of the patients reporting they were very satisfied and 59.1% considering the information transmitted very important. If new surgery was needed, all patients (100.0%) stated they would want a consultation. The mean length of hospital stay reduced from 7.09 to 6.73 days (p = 0.044), and the time to recover autonomy in mobilization decreased from 3.48 to 2.00 days (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The consultations were important for patients, had high levels of satisfaction, and positively impacted the recovery of autonomy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introducción: La infección del sitio quirúrgico ocupa el tercer lugar entre las infecciones adquiridas en los servicios de salud, lo que representa un problema importante de salud pública, presente en aproximadamente el 15% de las que se encuentran en pacientes hospitalizados, y uno de los tipos de lo más probable para este evento son las cirugías traumatología ortopédica. Objetivo: Verificar la asociación entre los factores de riesgo y la presencia de infección del sitio quirúrgico en cirugías traumatológicas. Materiales y métodos: Estudio prospectivo descriptivo, cuantitativo, realizado entre agosto y octubre de 2017 con 84 pacientes. Los datos sobre el paciente, el procedimiento y los signos de infecciones del sitio quirúrgico, encontrados en el tercer y décimo día postoperatorio, se obtuvieron mediante un formulario. Resultados: De las variables estudiadas, se comportaron como factores de riesgo para la infección del sitio quirúrgico: tabaquismo, diabetes y edad mayor de 50 años. La edad fue el principal factor de riesgo relacionado con el paciente, presente en 31, 36,9% de los casos. El dolor, el edema y la hiperemia fueron los signos más frecuentes de infección. Discusión y conclusiones: Los factores de riesgo relacionados con el paciente son más relevantes en la asociación con la infección del sitio quirúrgico en comparación con los relacionados con el procedimiento. Background: Preoperative information provision is a strategy used by nurses to control elective surgical patients' anxiety levels. A tool for assessing this information will improve the quality of nursing care. Objective: To develop and validate a preoperative information assessment scale. Methodology: Psychometric study. A Likert-type 15-item scale was developed based on a literature review and the researchers' experience. The scale was applied to 200 patients undergoing elective surgery in the preoperative period. Construct validity was assessed through exploratory factor analysis, principal components method, Varimax orthogonal rotation. Results: The KMO measure (0.92) and Bartlett's test of sphericity confirm the model's suitability. Two factors were extracted with the exploratory factor analysis, explaining 53.48% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha for the total scale was 0.903. Conclusion: The final version of the scale has good psychometric properties and allows assessing the patient's perception of the information received. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The theory of transpersonal caring is useful in understanding critical moments in the health-disease process such as the experience of major surgery. This study aims to evaluate the religiousness and spiritual well-being of patients hospitalized in the preoperative period of heart surgery from the perspective of Jean Watson’s transpersonal caring. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between January and June 2017 at the surgical wards of a university cardiology hospital in northeastern Brazil. 174 participants were evaluated in the preoperative period of cardiac surgery using the Duke University Religion Index and the Spiritual Well Being Scale. Results: The results showed that patients made significant use of religion to maintain their spiritual well-being in the preoperative period. The analysis of the results found was carried out based on Jean Watson’s theory of transpersonal caring. Discussion and conclusion: Existential crisis experienced by patients in the face of cardiac surgery, which involves restrictions, imposed changes and uncertainty, has an impact on the maintenance of well-being and its spiritual dimension which, in a transpersonal analysis, is a dimension of the individual’s integral health. Objetivo: Evaluar una intervención enfermera sobre el nivel de conocimientos de los pacientes sobre los cuidados postquirúrgicos en un hospital de II nivel de complejidad. Materiales y métodos: Proyecto de gestión del cuidado utilizando como referente metodológico el marco lógico adaptado. Se formuló una estructura conceptual-teórico-empírica para la investigación, que artículo los conceptos de Adaptación de Roy, educación de la teoría de la incertidumbre en la enfermedad de Mishel y se formularon los indicadores empíricos a partir de los diagnósticos, clasificación de resultados y las intervenciones enfermeras para dar solución al problema de la práctica. La muestra estuvo conformada por 101 pacientes adultos, con riesgo quirúrgico I y II, que fueron intervenidos quirúrgicamente y permanecían hospitalizados. Se aplicaron como instrumentos de recolección de información previo y posterior a la intervención una valoración verbal de los sentimientos sobre la cirugía y evaluación de conocimientos sobre los cuidados posquirúrgicos. La intervención incluyó educación personalizada, proyección de videos y explicación con folletos. Resultados: el uso de la intervención permitió mejorar los resultados con relación al nivel de conocimientos en actividad, dieta, cuidados de la herida y los signos y síntomas de infección, pasando de un nivel de conocimientos inicial nulo o bajo (1, 2) a un nivel sustancial o extenso (4 o 5), según la escala de resultados. Conclusión: la intervención educativa es efectiva al mejorar el nivel de conocimientos de los pacientes con relación a los cuidados posquirúrgicos, así como los pacientes le asignan un significado positivo a la cirugía y la describen como una oportunidad. Aim: to evaluate the quality of the preoperative nursing visit check list data in a university hospital in northeastern Brazil. Method: cross-sectional study from July to December 2017. The parameters non-fulfillment and reliability of data were used. For the calculation of incompleteness, the scoring system proposed by Romero and Cunha was adopted. Reliability was measured by the Kappa indicator. Results: 203 preoperative visit sheets were analyzed; 68.2% of the variables (15 of 22 variables analyzed) had a percentage of non-fulfillment ranging from >5% to 9.9%, classified as very low/low nonfulfillment. Considering the Kappa values, 81.8% of the studied variables had data reliability considered almost perfect. Conclusion: The quality of the preoperative visit check list data is satisfactory, since the non-fulfillment of most of the analyzed variables is very low/low and the agreement analysis indicated that the information is robust and reliable. Objective: to assess the prevalence, intensity and discomfort of the thirst of the orthopedic surgical patient and the correlations with the demographic and clinical-surgical variables. Method: cross-sectional, quantitative and analytical study with 78 patients in the Post-Anesthetic Recovery Room of a teaching hospital. Results: eight patients (10.3%) reported thirst spontaneously. Its mean intensity was 4.8, and the discomfort, 5.0. The attribute dry mouth was the most prevalent, followed by desire to drink water and dried lips. Intensity correlated significantly with discomfort of thirst in the group of patients from 21 to 40 years. There was a relationship of prevalence between presence of thirst and all the attributes of the Perioperative Thirst Discomfort Scale, with the exception of the attribute bad taste in the mouth. Conclusion: the thirst of the orthopedic surgical patient is prevalent in the postoperative period, with moderate intensity, but considerably uncomfortable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
