OBJECTIVES: During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical education programs were challenged to optimize learning while balancing social interaction with exposure risk. In response, our internal medicine (IM) residency program transitioned to "simulcast" educational sessions. In simulcast sessions, multiple small groups of learners met in person in separate rooms and connected to the large-group session via videoconferencing. This qualitative study describes IM residents' perceptions regarding the advantages and disadvantages of learning in simulcast compared to virtual and in-person settings during the pandemic. METHODS: Categorical IM residents at Penn State during the academic year 2020-2021 were invited to participate. Eligible residents participated in one 30-min virtual, semistructured focus group. We used inductive thematic coding to analyze resident responses. RESULTS: Forty-eight percent (n = 29/60) of invited residents participated in focus groups. In the simulcast setting, participants felt more accountability to participate in their small groups compared to a larger group or virtual setting. Educational experiences varied based upon facilitator skill level. Overall, in-person settings were preferred to virtual, when possible, due to increased social connection. Respondents identified educator enthusiasm and presentation quality as key to engagement regardless of setting. CONCLUSION: Residents had variable responses to the simulcast setting based upon their comfort with participation by group size, desire for social connection, and perception of teaching strategies. The key identified pitfalls to simulcast teaching were resident discomfort in small groups, heterogeneous learning experience, lack of engagement, and technology challenges. These pitfalls can be mitigated through strategic distribution of learners in groups, trained facilitators, and interactive teaching modalities. Given that simulcast and mixed (simulcast, virtual, and in-person) teaching settings are here to stay postpandemic, anticipating pitfalls and creating adaptable educational content that translates in multiple settings is crucial. Introducción: Los estudios epidemiológicos actuales destacan la gravedad de los problemas de salud mental en adolescentes. El papel de la educación como estrategia de afrontamiento y como necesidad de la educación integral es determinante, sin embargo, ha recibido poca atención científica. Objetivo: Revisar las investigaciones con intervenciones educativas para el desarrollo de competencias sociales y emocionales en educación física en educación secundaria (11-18 años) para conocer su estado actual. Metodología: Se analizaron la calidad de los estudios, los modelos pedagógicos que fundamentan las intervenciones y sus contenidos e instrumentos de evaluación. Se realizó la búsqueda desde 2013 hasta marzo de 2024 en las bases de datos de Web of Science y PubMed utilizando el método PRISMA, excluyendo los estudios con diseño exclusivamente cualitativo. Resultados: El número de estudios incluidos fue de 11. El análisis indicó un bajo nivel de calidad de los estudios y una gran diversidad de modelos educativos, instrumentos de medida, variables a estudiar y tipos de intervención. Todos los estudios indicaron mejoras en las competencias socioemocionales de los participantes. Los modelos de educación deportiva, responsabilidad emocional y social y aprendizaje cooperativo, así como actividades de resolución de problemas, fueron las intervenciones más eficaces. Conclusiones: El desarrollo de esta línea de investigación requiere seguir los criterios de calidad analizados en este estudio, mayor profundidad en la descripción y evaluación de la fidelización de las de intervenciones globalizadas que desarrollen las cinco competencias socioemocionales fundamentales.

Abstract Background The theory of planned behavior (TPB) is recognized as an effective theory for behavior change. The aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of two TPB-based educational interventions on oral self-examination (OSE) behavior and the related TPB constructs among adults in Tehran, Iran, in 2022. Methods This randomized controlled trial involved 400 healthy individuals recruited from 20 urban comprehensive health centers in the southern part of Tehran, Iran. The health centers were randomly assigned to two control (PowerPoint) and intervention (WhatsApp) groups (200 individuals in each group). In the control group (the recipient of the routine care), participants received a 20-minute lecture through a PowerPoint presentation and a pamphlet. In the intervention group (the recipient of an additional intervention alongside the routine care), participants were educated through messages and images on WhatsApp along with having monthly group discussions. Data was collected at baseline, as well as at 1- and 3-month follow-ups using a structured questionnaire. The outcomes assessed included OSE behavior and the related TPB constructs: intention, attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. Linear and logistic generalized estimating equations (GEE) regression models were used to evaluate the impact of the interventions with STATA version 17. Results Of the total participants, 151 (37.75%) were men. The mean ± standard deviation (SD) of ages in the PowerPoint and WhatsApp groups were 39.89 ± 13.72 and 39.45 ± 13.90, respectively. OSE and the related TPB constructs showed significant differences between the groups at the 1-month post-intervention assessment. The effect of PowerPoint was more significant in the short-term (one month), while both methods showed similar effectiveness after three months, specifically in relation to OSE and the TPB constructs. At the 3-month post-intervention assessment, there were significant increases in OSE (OR = 28.63), intention (β = 1.47), attitude (β = 0.66), subjective norm (β = 2.82), and perceived behavioral control (β = 1.19) in both groups (p

Background & Objectives: Cephalometric tracing education in orthodontics necessitates a thorough review of human anatomy. Juggling expertise in two fields poses a challenge for professors. A collaborative solution, such as the team teaching model where two professors jointly instruct students, was explored in this study to investigate its impact on teaching cephalometric tracing to dental students in Zanjan during 2021-2022. Materials & Methods: This quasi-experimental study involved the participation of all 67 dental students across two semesters in 2021 and 2022. In a shared classroom setting, the orthodontist traced the cephalogram image on the whiteboard, and immediately the radiologist described the related bones using software. This interactive teaching approach persisted throughout the class. At the conclusion of each session, students were given a teaching satisfaction form and a researcher-developed questionnaire containing anatomy questions. Descriptive statistics, including frequency and percentage, were employed, and a Paired T-test was conducted for analytical statistics (p-value = 0.05). Results: The overall satisfaction percentage of students was 79.75% (563 of 706 response).The highest level of satisfaction was related to the satisfaction with the teaching method. The highest level of dissatisfaction was related to saving time. A comparison of the mean scores of the pretest and posttest showed no significant increase in learning. Conclusion: Student satisfaction with team teaching is notably high, particularly in relation to the teaching method. However, challenges related to time efficiency were identified as a drawback of this teaching model. Taking into account the study's limitations, it was concluded that team teaching did not significantly impact the learning rate.

This paper analyses the use of social media by Uruguayan teachers, as well as the role of educational models on the Twitter/X platform. This is a mixed (quantitative-qualitative) study based on a survey of 206 teachers, a social media analysis of the Twitter/X platform, and in-depth interviews with nine leading educators identified on it. The results show that teachers use social media, in general, to find resources, learn from others and stay up to date with current developments in education. Leading educators, on the other hand, are particularly active on Twitter/X, where they share their opinions, thoughts and resources. They have training and professional experience in education and value the interaction, teaching and influence they generate on social networks. At present digital transformation of the society faces the problem of a shortage of a highly qualified personnel - specialists in the field of the latest information technologies, intellectual scientists with a high-quality fundamental education. The solution to this problem lies in the introduction of new educational models and technologies. The purpose of the research is to study the strategy for the formation of a new conceptual scheme of modern education. It has been emphasized that two leading educational models are currently being successfully implemented and complement each other: the classical model of «completed» education with the basic principle of «education once and for life», covering the need of the society for the generation and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the storage of cultural ideals, and the second model, called the «lifelong education model», which meets the principle of «lifelong education», corresponding to the rapid changes in technology and the nature of digital transformations of the society. The article pays special attention to new educational technologies such as: 1) analytical technologies, which are based on the analysis of big data from educational institutions in real time; 2) adaptive (or intellectual) learning, which is based on the principles of personalization of learning and building an individual educational trajectory; 3) Smart education, using learning tools in an interactive educational environment with elements of distance and mobile education. The methodological basis of the research is a systematic approach and general methods of scientific knowledge, such as analysis, synthesis, generalization. The relevance of the topic is associated with increased attention to the problem of matching the quality of the Russian education with the promising tasks of the digital transformation of the Russian society. Key conclusion. A high professional level of the personnel reserve, which will be able to practically implement state digitalization programs, is possible and is associated with the construction of a new concept of modern education.

Background: Many General Practitioners (GPs) are unable to manage musculoskeletal disorders, chronic diseases, and disabilities. Objectives: This study aimed to design, implement, and evaluate a virtual Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) course for medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This pre-experimental study used the ADDIE model. The statistical population was all fifth-semester medical students of Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Iran, who chose the PMR course in 2020 - 2021. Educational content and exams in the two fields of musculoskeletal and rehabilitation were virtually compiled. Learners were evaluated based on their knowledge (with exams), attitudes, and satisfaction (with researcher-made questionnaires). Data were analyzed using SPSS16 software with descriptive statistics. Results: The final exam scores of nearly half of the 55 learners were above 17. About 80% of the students had a positive attitude, and 75% of them were satisfied at the end of the course. They believed this course is a suitable link between the basic and clinical fields, and acquiring rehabilitation skills is necessary for GPs. Conclusions: Combining musculoskeletal with rehabilitation topics, not neglecting practical aspects such as physical examination, and using educational videos led to the improvement of students' knowledge, attitude, and satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of TPB-based educational interventions on oral cancer-related knowledge and tobacco smoking behavior in an Iranian adult population in 2022. Methods In this randomized controlled trial, a total of 400 healthy individuals were enrolled. The study was implemented in 20 urban health centers in the south of Tehran, Iran. The health centers were randomly allocated into two intervention groups. In group PowerPoint (PP), the participants received education through a 20-minute PowerPoint presentation complemented by a pamphlet. Group WhatsApp (WA) was educated via WhatsApp messages and images. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire at baseline, and at one- and three-month follow-ups. The outcomes were evaluated in terms of knowledge, tobacco smoking behavior, and the related model constructs i.e. intention, attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. Generalized estimating equations (GEE) regression models were applied to assess the effect of interventions on repeated measurements of the outcomes. All analyses were conducted using STATA Software Version 17. Results Out of all the participants, 249 (62%) were women. The mean and standard deviation (SD) of age were 39.67 and 13.80 years. Overall, group PP had a significantly higher score of knowledge compared to group WA (β = 0.43, p = 0.005). No significant differences were found between the groups with regard to tobacco smoking and the related TPB constructs, except for attitude with a higher score in group PP compared to group WA (β = 0.50, p = 0.004). Abstract Background It is essential to empower young people to promote reproductive health (RH) and develop effective educational programs to prevent risky behaviors. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting students’ attitudes towards RH based on the ecological model and then design an educational program. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 461 female students aged 18–29 in the north of Iran. This study was done in two stages. In the first stage, factors affecting the attitude towards RH including demographic questionnaire, interpersonal communication skills, family communication pattern, depression, stress and anxiety, body self-image, and self-confidence were determined. In the second stage, an educational program was designed based on the most effective factors. Independent t-test, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression were employed using SPSS version 20 software. Also, STATA version 15 software was utilized for statistical modeling to predict the best predictive model of attitude towards RH. Results 47.7% of students had a good attitude toward RH. The majority of students had problems with interpersonal communication skills (60.7%). Also, 28.5% experienced depression, 35.8% anxiety, and 12.8% stress at different levels. More than a quarter of the students (26.5%) had poor body self-image and 18.7% had Undesirable self-esteem. Interpersonal skills (P = 0.002), family communication pattern (P = 0.004), stress (p = 0.019), anxiety (P = 0.001), and body self-image (P = 0.034) have a significant relationship with the attitude towards RH. The multiple regression showed that the most important effective factor on RH is the dialogue orientation of family communication pattern (P = 0.041), stress (P = 0.002), and anxiety (P = 0.001). Conclusion Stress and anxiety management training and the use of dialogue orientation in the family communication pattern for young female students are recommended based on the scientific model.

This is an experience report lived by a group of the Public Health Course of a public university in the State of Pará, by students from the Nursing and Medicine Course of Pet-Saúde, and dental students from a private university in Pará. The planning period took place from June to September 2022 in the municipality of Belém-Pará. The objective was to present the experience of the class during the training process, its practices, experiences and transformations from the 1st Exhibition of Popular Education in Health. The field activities were developed at the University of the State of Pará and at the state full-time school, which is part of the Paraíso dos Pássaros Family Health Strategy. The developed sample demonstrated a wealth of knowledge exchanges, interdisciplinarity and intersectionality, necessary in the implementation of actions of popular education in health together with the Health at School Program. Throughout the course, changes were observed in the students' conceptions and practices, through the systematic construction of knowledge, empowerment and critical reflections about reality. Ledge formation presents a significant challenge in endodontic treatment. Yet, there is still a lack of educational tooth models for hands-on practice. This study aimed to create and evaluate a tooth model for ledge management practice. A natural tooth with curved roots was collected for scientific use under ethics committee approval. Following initial root canal preparation, the tooth was scanned using micro-computed tomography (μCT) and 3D reconstructed. A K-file, created via computer-aided design (CAD), was partly inserted into the root canal wall of the 3D reconstructed tooth. By subtracting the K-file from the tooth, a tooth model with a root canal ledge was produced. The model was then 3D printed for a hands-on workshop. An eight-item Likert-scale questionnaire was administered to 20 postgraduate students and 10 endodontists to assess the model's quality and training effectiveness. In addition, the success rate of bypassing and correcting the root canal ledge was documented. The feedback from both the students and experts was positive, and the results of the Mann–Whitney U test indicated no statistically significant differences found between the two groups (p > 0.05). The success rate of the students and the experts was 85% and 100%, respectively. In future applications, this novel tooth model is expected to address the existing gap in endodontic education and provide benefits for dental practitioners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Despite controversy regarding its validity and clinical usefulness, manual examination findings still have an important role for manipulative therapies. As an example, somatic dysfunction (SD) remains central to osteopathic practice.This study aims to explore the experienced osteopaths' attitudes concerning SD and its role in osteopathic practice. This qualitative research could contribute to building a consistent paradigm for manual intervention in all musculoskeletal manipulations. Methods A thematic analysis with grounded theory elements was used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews carried out between February and April 2021. A purposive sample of twenty professional osteopaths with past experience in osteopathic care was chosen to reflect the phenomenon's variety. The data analysis was done inductively and in tandem with the recruiting to keep track of data saturation. Results Eleven osteopaths participated in the study. Three main themes emerged from the data analysis: (1) SD as a safe tissue-touch-based communication tool between operator and person complex adaptive health system; (2) The treatment of SD is shareable between osteopaths, other health professionals, and the patients involved in the therapeutic pathway improving body awareness and health; (3) The development of the SD concept in research and practice to better clarify osteopathic profession identity and definition. Conclusions A panel of expert osteopaths consider the concept of SD as a valuable tool integrated into the osteopathic evaluation and treatment process. The shared concept and clinical application of SD is informed by person-centered care concepts and from the fields of neuroscience, cognitive and complexity science. Our study reports a common need among osteopaths to develop an evidence-based framework of SD to allow the best development of the osteopathic profession.

Background. 70% of cases where there is a tear in the perineal tissue at the time of delivery, either spontaneously or with an episiotomy, require perineal suture treatment. Postpartum mothers who experience a delivery with an episiotomy indicate that they experience a higher level of pain. Objectives. The educational model “Perineal Self Care Protocol” is an educational intervention model with a web-based application method for postpartum mothers at home. Material and methods. This research was conducted in the working area of the Medan Sunggal and Medan Amplas health centres with a sample size of 138 women who were divided into 2 groups, namely the intervention group (the Medan Sunggal working area) and the control group (the Medan Amplas work area). A sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling with the aim of identifying self-efficacy assessment is done by “Perineal Self Care Protocol” education module for 4 consecutive days. Results. In the results of this research, there was an increase in postpartum mother’s self-efficacy with a significance value of p < 0.005, where 10 items of self-efficacy that have been shown to increase with the development of education through the website have been found to increase. Conclusions. In the results of this research, there was an increase in postpartum mother’s self-efficacy with a significance value of p < 0.005, where there were 10 items of self-efficacy components that were proven to increase with the development of education through the website. AIMThe goal of this study was to identify strategies for teaching health advocacy for undergraduate nursing students. BACKGROUND Although health advocacy is a core skill of professional nursing practice, there are challenges in the health advocacy approach in nursing education. METHOD The databases LILACS, IBECS, BDENF, Medline, Web of Science, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library were searched, without limit of time and language, for this scoping review; 11 articles were included. Data were analyzed and synthesized in a narrative form. RESULTS The following teaching strategies emerged: theoretical exposition and supervised clinical internship, technology-enhanced simulation, clinical experience, experiential learning, simulated social experiences, digital story making, and narrative pedagogy. The topic was taught according to several themes: economic disparity, health legislation, LGBTQ+ population, elder health, mental health, health policies, concept of advocacy, and nontechnical skills. The transformation of educational processes, derived from the technological disruption that has taken place in the educational field, has allowed for the development of certain methodologies and techniques that place emphasis on the students as an active element in their own learning. Among these methodologies is learning based on video games. Serious games are video games with an explicit educational objective, that facilitate the generation of motivating contexts, promoting relevant experiences, and with the possibility of creating challenges of a systemic nature. With a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology, this study analysed the pedagogical models and/or approaches that are implemented in the teaching–learning processes brought about by the use of serious games, with the aim of evidencing the potentialities derived from the conception of the video game as an educational resource. The results show a clear conceptual network in relation to the analysed subject, with little interaction between selected studies. A variety of pedagogical models were identified, pertaining to the use of serious games as an educational resource in the classroom context. In Morocco, Islam is the state religion and Islamic education is part of the curriculum. At the same time, current educational reforms promote a competence-based approach and soft skills. This article highlights the existing tensions in curricula and teaching practices for Arabic, French and English in the national education system, between two conceptions of citizenship: one, focused on Arab-Muslim identity,seeks to construct pious and reverential citizens of the kingdom, while the other, resolutely pragmatic and liberal, endeavours to train autonomous, productive and competitive citizens in the global economy.

Objective: To determine the level of the technical skills development of the medical student in performing surgical sutures through a virtual teaching model. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive and longitudinal study was carried out that evaluated some skills of 24 undergraduate medical students, without prior surgery knowledge to perform surgical sutures (simple and crossed interrupted suture) through virtual teaching of the course of surgical technique (virtual classrooms, synchronous videoconferences, inanimate and ex vivo simulation models and telementoring). Results: In relation to the simple interrupted suture, there was a significant improvement in the OSATS (objective structured assessment of technical skills) from 6 ± 0.28 to 28 ± 2.6 as well as the rubric of the finished suture from 5 ± 0.28 to 24 ± 1.5 and a decrease in the time to perform the suture from 44 ± 13 seconds to 33 ± 9 seconds at the end of the course (p = 0.0001). In relation to the cross interrupted suture, there was a significant improvement in the OSATS from 6 ± 0.28 to 27 ± 2, as well as the final suture from 5 ± 0.28 to 24 ± 1.7 and a decrease in the time to perform the suture from 66 ± 21 seconds at 56 ± 11 seconds, in favor of the post-test. Conclusions: There is an adequate development of technical competencies in medical students for the realization of simple and crossed interrupted sutures through the proposed virtual teaching model.

Objective: Schools can be an effective arena for food education. The Tasty School is a tailored teacher-driven food education model that provides tools for implementing food education in primary schools. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the Tasty School model on pupils' eating patterns and experiences. We also aimed to assess the implementation strength of the Tasty School.Design: A quasi-experimental study was conducted during one school year 2019-2020 in fifteen intervention and ten control schools. The intervention schools implemented the Tasty School food education model. The pupils completed web-based baseline and follow-up questionnaires in class during a school day. The principals were interviewed after the intervention. The data were analysed using a mixed-effects model for repeated measures, accounting for the implementation strength and selected standardisation effects.Setting: A total of twenty-five general Finnish primary schools.Participants: 1480 pupils from grades 3-6 (age 8-12 years) from five municipalities in Finland.Results: Percentages of pupils eating a balanced school meal increased in schools where food education was actively implemented (P = 0·027). In addition, pupils' experience of social participation in school dining strengthened in schools where the Tasty School model was implemented (5-point scale mean from 2·41 to 2·61; P = 0·017).Conclusions: Healthy eating patterns can be promoted by the active implementation of food education in primary schools. The Tasty School model offers a promising tool for developing healthy eating patterns and increasing social participation among pupils not only in Finland, but also potentially in other countries as well. Abstract Global health degree programs are now offered by institutions of higher education in most world regions. Based on our review of the curricula for many of these programs, we identified five domains that are central to current global health education. “Parity” emphasizes health equity as the ultimate goal of global health. “People” comprises the social, economic, cultural, and political contributors to health and access to medical care for individuals and communities. “Planet” encompasses various aspects of globalization and environmental health that affect population health. “Priorities” and “practices” include the values, data, and tools used to design, implement, and evaluate partnerships, policies, programs, and other global health interventions in countries of all income levels. The pandemic is likely to increase student demand for global health education from the undergraduate through the graduate and professional levels. Our “5 Ps model of global health education” provides a comprehensive framework for the core student learning objectives for global health today. Knowledge of each of these domains is essential for preparing students for meaningful experiential learning and skilled professional practice in global health.

The latest paradigm shifts in heritage didactics focuses to the need of participation and subjective experience in educational designs and, during the last years, several researches have arisen around plastic and visual education and its use as tools for mediation between people and heritage. The aim of this article is to analyze the academic production on heritage education through PVT (plastic and visual techniques) in journals of the Web of Science Core Collection (WOS) databases in the last 10 years (2010-2020). Bibliographic searches and analyses were performed through high-impact indicator analysis, making microspecialized searches in WOS. Bibliometric techniques were applied to identify the main lines of research, topics and PVT. The data were processed with VOSviewer and an in-depth qualitative analysis. In relation to the results, four approaches have been observed: a first approach focused on the communication of heritage, a second one focused on the use of plastic techniques as a form of expression, a third one focused on the use of ICT as an educational tool, and a fourth one focused on the experiential relationship with the environment.

The present study aims to discuss the state of the art inherent in pedagogical-didactic research on the education of gifted students. To this end, a systematic review of scientific texts published between 2011 and 2021 was carried out. The present article is organized as follows: introduction to the topic; definition of the objectives, research questions, and methodological protocol; selection, evaluation, and synthesis of the abstract studies; discussion and evaluation of the results; and conclusions. Multiple tools for identifying the gifted students (for use by psychologists, pedagogists, educators, and teachers) emerge from the findings of the present study. The texts highlight numerous instructional and educational programming models for gifted students in all school grades. The main model is the SEM—(Schoolwide Enrichment Model). The present review shows a conspicuous production on gifted education, with the predominance of recently published articles (indicative of vivid interest in the topic) and of American origin. This geographic predominance, which does not cover the European and eastern parts of the world, may depend on the fact that the databases used [Scopus and Web of Science (WoS)] select results based on the use of English. This review reveals gaps and emerging trends in gifted education research, suggesting possibilities and future perspectives.

Ledge formation presents a significant challenge in endodontic treatment. Yet, there is still a lack of educational tooth models for hands-on practice. This study aimed to create and evaluate a tooth model for ledge management practice. A natural tooth with curved roots was collected for scientific use under ethics committee approval. Following initial root canal preparation, the tooth was scanned using micro-computed tomography (μCT) and 3D reconstructed. A K-file, created via computer-aided design (CAD), was partly inserted into the root canal wall of the 3D reconstructed tooth. By subtracting the K-file from the tooth, a tooth model with a root canal ledge was produced. The model was then 3D printed for a hands-on workshop. An eight-item Likert-scale questionnaire was administered to 20 postgraduate students and 10 endodontists to assess the model’s quality and training effectiveness. In addition, the success rate of bypassing and correcting the root canal ledge was documented. The feedback from both the students and experts was positive, and the results of the Mann–Whitney U test indicated no statistically significant differences found between the two groups (p > 0.05). The success rate of the students and the experts was 85% and 100%, respectively. In future applications, this novel tooth model is expected to address the existing gap in endodontic education and provide benefits for dental practitioners.

Background: Despite controversy regarding its validity and clinical usefulness, manual examination findings still have an important role for manipulative therapies. As an example, somatic dysfunction (SD) remains central to osteopathic practice.This study aims to explore the experienced osteopaths' attitudes concerning SD and its role in osteopathic practice. This qualitative research could contribute to building a consistent paradigm for manual intervention in all musculoskeletal manipulations. Methods: A thematic analysis with grounded theory elements was used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews carried out between February and April 2021. A purposive sample of twenty professional osteopaths with past experience in osteopathic care was chosen to reflect the phenomenon's variety. The data analysis was done inductively and in tandem with the recruiting to keep track of data saturation. Results: Eleven osteopaths participated in the study. Three main themes emerged from the data analysis: (1) SD as a safe tissue-touch-based communication tool between operator and person complex adaptive health system; (2) The treatment of SD is shareable between osteopaths, other health professionals, and the patients involved in the therapeutic pathway improving body awareness and health; (3) The development of the SD concept in research and practice to better clarify osteopathic profession identity and definition. Conclusions: A panel of expert osteopaths consider the concept of SD as a valuable tool integrated into the osteopathic evaluation and treatment process. The shared concept and clinical application of SD is informed by person-centered care concepts and from the fields of neuroscience, cognitive and complexity science. Our study reports a common need among osteopaths to develop an evidence-based framework of SD to allow the best development of the osteopathic profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality devices are enabling technologies that may facilitate effective communication in healthcare between those with information and knowledge (clinician/specialist; expert; educator) and those seeking understanding and insight (patient/family; non-expert; learner). Investigators initiated an exploratory program to enable the study of AR/MR use-cases in acute care clinical and instructional settings.Methods: Academic clinician educators, computer scientists, and diagnostic imaging specialists conducted a proof-of-concept project to 1) implement a core holoimaging pipeline infrastructure and open-access repository at the study institution, and 2) use novel AR/MR techniques on off-the-shelf devices with holoimages generated by the infrastructure to demonstrate their potential role in the instructive communication of complex medical information.Results: The study team successfully developed a medical holoimaging infrastructure methodology to identify, retrieve, and manipulate real patients’ de-identified computed tomography and magnetic resonance imagesets for rendering, packaging, transfer, and display of modular holoimages onto AR/MR headset devices and connected displays. Holoimages containing key segmentations of cervical and thoracic anatomic structures and pathology were overlaid and registered onto physical task trainers for simulation-based “blind insertion” invasive procedural training. During the session, learners experienced and used task-relevant anatomic holoimages for central venous catheter and tube thoracostomy insertion training with enhanced visual cues and haptic feedback. Direct instructor access into the learner’s AR/MR headset view of the task trainer was achieved for visual-axis interactive instructional guidance.Conclusion: Investigators implemented a core holoimaging pipeline infrastructure and modular open-access repository to generate and enable access to modular holoimages during exploratory pilot stage applications for invasive procedure training that featured innovative AR/MR techniques on off-the-shelf headset devices.

Objective: To evaluate the perception of postgraduate trainees of ophthalmology about One Minute Preceptorship. Study Design: Mixed method study Place and Duration of Study: Department of Ophthalmology Peshawar Medical College, Peshawar from Jun 2020 to Dec 2020. Methodology: Ten post graduate FCPS trainees of Ophthalmology were included in this study. The participants were introduced to and practiced One Minute Preceptorship for a period of 01 month in the outpatient clinic. A questionnaire for study was filled anonymously after taking an informed consent, which included ten closed ended and three open ended questions to assess the efficacy of One Minute Preceptorship model in improving practical skills like focused history taking, case presentation, clinical diagnosis and devising an effective management plan. Results: One Minute Preceptorship model is an effective learning and teaching tool for improving case presentation skills (90%), identifying disease presentation (70 %), clinical diagnosis (60%), identification of risk factors (80%) and understanding the management plan (70%).Qualitative analysis of One Minute Preceptorship model usage showed improved clinical evaluation skills, more efficient time consumption, prompt clinical diagnosis and provision of self-reflection to the learner. Conclusion: OMP model can be employed as an effective learning and teaching tool in an outpatient clinical setting in postgraduate Ophthalmology training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background Dental and oral diseases can have negative impacts on children’s quality of life. The aim of this study was to determine the predictors of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in the children aged 2–5 years old. Materials and methods A total number of 288 children aged between 2 and 5 years were selected and stratified by gender from three community health centres located in the city of Jahrom, south of Fars Province, Iran. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire whose validity and reliability was confirmed. The questionnaire was completed by parents/caregivers of the children. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed with quality of life as the dependent variable and, based on covariance structural analysis, evaluated the goodness of fit of the resulting structural equations models. Stories of reconciliation is a transmedia experience that collects the memories of people who have lived with violence and war in Colombia. Their stories are the script of an animated feature film and an interactive documentary. This project, directed by Carlos Santa and Rubén Monroy, was born in 2015, in response to the need to open opportunities for animation students at SENA - Center for the Graphic Communication Industry, will be linked to industry and development of real projects, in such a way that they will strengthen their performance as animators and the creative industry companies will generate confidence in their training. It was an experience in which it was mixed, or better, reconciled technique, research, artistic expression and forms of commercial and experimental production, in order to contribute to the construction of social fabric; which guides students to develop critical thinking related to such a complex issue as the war in Colombia.

Background Patient safety events (PSE) are opportunities to improve patient care but physicians rarely report them. In a previous study, residents identified knowledge regarding what constitutes a PSE, perceived lack of time, complexity of the reporting process, lack of feedback, and perceived failure to resolve the issue despite reporting to be barriers limiting their PSE reporting. The residency programs and system patient safety and quality improvement departments created targeted interventions to address identified barriers. Objective Assess effectiveness of targeted interventions on improving PSE reporting rates amongst residents. Methods As part of a multi-residency patient safety project, interventions were created to focus on the removal of barriers to reporting PSE identified previously. Post-interventions, an identical cross-sectional survey of the residents at the same two community teaching hospitals was conducted from Sept to Dec 2018 through an online questionnaire tool. Results 78 out of 149 residents (52.3%) completed the survey. We found a significant improvement in the number of residents who endorsed reporting a PSE in the past 1 year (51.2% vs 23.5%, p = 0.001), as well as during the course of their training (52.6% vs 26.5%, P = 0.001). There was also a significant decrease in the number of residents who were unsure of how to report a PSE (p = 0.031) as well as those who viewed medical error as a sign of incompetence (p = 0.036). Conclusion Our study demonstrates that simplifying the PSE reporting process, improving knowledge and acceptance of patient safety/quality improvement principles and promotion of a just culture improves resident PSE reporting.

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is the most effective treatment for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Adherence to treatment after CABG surgery is very important. One of the educational models used in this regard is the BASNEF (Belief, Attitudes, Subjective Norms, and Enabling Factors) model. The present study aimed to assess the effect of an educational intervention based on BASNEF model on adherence to treatment in patients after CABG surgery.METHODS: The present study was a randomized clinical trial. In this study, 72 patients who had undergone CABG surgery participated in the two intervention and control groups. Patients in the intervention group took part in 4 40-minute educational sessions based on BASNEF model after discharge. The patients in both groups completed the Modanloo Adherence to Treatment Questionnaire (MATQ) ‎and a researcher-made ‎BASNEF model questionnaire before the intervention, after the educational intervention, and at the 3-month follow-up. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, chi-square test, Man-Whitney test, and repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). Mauchly’s sphericity test was used for testing sphericity and the Greenhouse-Geisser correction was used in the case of lack of sphericity. All P-values of less than 0.05 were considered significant.RESULTS: The total score of the MATQ and its subscales had significantly improved in the intervention group after the intervention compared with the control group (P < 0.050). In addition, the mean scores of the model constructs (knowledge, attitude, behavior intention, subjective norms, and enabling factors) had significantly improved after the intervention in the intervention group in comparison with the control group (P < 0.050).CONCLUSION: The educational intervention based on BASNEF model improved adherence to treatment in patients after CABG surgery. Moreover, the model constructs improved in the intervention group in comparison with the control group after the intervention.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders account for up to one in four of general-practice consultations and almost one third of complaints in primary-care clinical practice. However, an insufficient amount of time and importance is given to their teaching in most medical schools. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the acquisition of musculoskeletal competences in our institution, in order to identify flaws and propose changes to correct and improve the musculoskeletal curriculum. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study conducted in São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS: First to fifth-year medical students were enrolled in a survey using the Freedman and Bernstein musculoskeletal examination, in order to evaluate the acquisition of musculoskeletal competencies. Categorical data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Continuous data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The level of significance was set as P < 0.05. RESULTS: A total of 545 students completed the questionnaire: from year 2, 115/167 (29.6%); from year 3, 118/138 (30.4%); from year 4, 98/130 (25.3%); and from year 5, 57/110 (14.7%). None of the students achieved the pass mark (established as 70%). The level of confidence in performing musculoskeletal examination was very low (3.7 ± 2.2; n = 386) and bore no relationship to the percentage of correct answers in the questionnaire (r = 0.331; 95% confidence interval, CI: 0.239-0.417; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Undergraduate teaching is the only exposure most general practitioners have to orthopedic problems. Universities are concerned about the adequacy of the musculoskeletal programs taught in their institutions. Student scores were found to be unsatisfactory in all the topics evaluated.
