Abstract

The exclusive reaction $\pi^- p \to \eta \pi^0 n$, $\eta \to \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^0$ at 18 GeV$/c$ has been studied with a partial wave analysis on a sample of 23~492 $\eta \pi^0 n$ events from BNL experiment E852. A mass-dependent fit is consistent with a resonant hypothesis for the $P_+$ wave, thus providing evidence for a neutral exotic meson with $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$, a mass of $1257 \pm 20 \pm 25$ MeV$/c^2$, and a width of $354 \pm 64 \pm 60$ MeV$/c^2$. New interpretations of the meson exotics in neutral $\eta \pi^0$ system observed in E852 and Crystal Barrel experiments are discussed., Comment: p3, rewording the paragraph (at the bottom) about the phase variations. p4, rewording paragrath "The second method ..." . p4, at the bottom of paragrath "The third method ..." added consistent with the results of methods 1 and 2"

Abstract

We report on a study of the reaction, $\gamma p \to p \pi^+\pi^+\pi^-\pi^-\pi^0$, at an incident photon energy of 19.3 GeV. The most significant feature of this reaction is $\Delta^{++}$ production which occurs with a cross section of $0.6\pm 0.1 \mu$b. An upper limit is set for the cross section for the reaction, $\gamma p \to \Delta^{++}b_1^-(1235)$, and a search is made for resonances decaying to $b_1^\pm\pi^\mp$., Comment: 5 pages using REVTex, epsfig, 5 eps figures included

Abstract

E687 has been a highly successful experiment on charm physics at Fermilab collecting approximately 100,000 fully reconstructed charm events. Still recently, after seven years since last data taking, E687 has produced world class physics results, the latest of which will be summarized in this article.

Abstract

We report measurements of charm particle production asymmetries from the Fermilab photoproduction experiment E687. An asymmetry in the rate of production of charm versus anticharm particles is expected to arise primarily from fragmentation effects. We observe statistically significant asymmetries in the photoproduction of D+, D*+ and D0 mesons and find small (but statistically weak) asymmetries in the production of the D+s meson and the A+c baryon. Our inclusive photoproduction asymmetries are compared to predictions from nonperturbative models of charm quark fragmentation.

Abstract

A partial-wave analysis of the reaction π−p→ηηπ−p at 18 GeV/c has been performed on a data sample of approximately 4000 events obtained by Brookhaven experiment E852. The JPC=0−+π(1800) state is observed in the a0(980)η and f0(1500)π decay modes. It has a mass of 1876±18±16 MeV/c2 and a width of 221±26±38 MeV/c2. The JPC=2−+π2(1880) meson is observed decaying through a2(1320)η. It has a mass of 1929±24±18 MeV/c2 and a width of 323±87±43 MeV/c2. Both states are potential candidates for non-exotic hybrid mesons.
