Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of the use of midazolam as monotherapy, compared to the associated use of midazolam and hydroxyzine for minimum and moderate sedation of children in dental offices, using data obtained from clinical trials. Material and Methods: A systematic review protocol was developed and registered on PROSPERO (CR42020208633). An electronic search was carried out in Pubmed, Lilacs, Science Direct, Open Gray, Web of Science, and central Cochrane Library. No language restrictions were included. Clinical trials were carried out with children aged 0-12 years, using midazolam as monotherapy compared to the use of midazolam associated with hydroxyzine to verify the effectiveness and safety of oral sedation. The quality of the studies was individually assessed and grouped using the RoB 2 (Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials) and GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) systems, respectively. Results: A total of 749 studies were found. After analyzing the inclusion and removal of duplicates, two studies were analyzed for the quality of evidence. Through this analysis, it was possible to verify the very low level of scientific evidence on the superiority of the efficacy and safety of the combined use of midazolam and hydroxyzine for oral sedation in children in dental offices. Conclusion: The conflicting results and limitations of the studies enabled to establish that there is insufficient evidence to support the use of these drugs combined. There is only evidence for the use of midazolam as monotherapy.

A proposta é apresentar o processo do trabalho de animação junto à pesquisa em desenvolvimento sobre o feminino e sagrado feminino na pós graduação em arte e cultura visual da FAV UFG. Na animação discorro sobre símbolos e significados do sagrado, aliado a tecnologia e essa relação de discrepância entre eles sendo aprofundado em uma narrativa do projeto de pesquisa. Trazendo reflexões acerca do processo de criação e o aspecto intuitivo e sensível dessa etapa. Palavras-chave: Processo de criação, quadrinhos, animação, arte e tecnologia, sagrado feminino. The proposal is to present the animation work process together with the ongoing research on the feminine and sacred feminine in the postgraduate course in art and visual culture at FAV UFG. Objetivo: O presente trabalho objetiva avaliar a produção científica publicadas nos anais do Congresso da Sociedade Brasileira de Pesquisa Odontológica (SBPqO) acerca da prótese total convencional. Metodologia: Foi realizado um estudo observacional retrospectivo, a partir da observação indireta e a análise de dados secundários, baseado nos trabalhos apresentados na Reunião Anual da SBPqO no período de 2014 a 2018. Foram analisados as variáveis nível de satisfação e qualidade de vida; deslocamento e inclinação; vínculo ao serviço público; infecção e contaminação; técnicas de moldagens; higiene; planejamento; estabilidade e retenção; e, materiais utilizados. Além disso, foram coletadas informações das subdivisões de regiões e estados, com o objetivo de verificar dentro da prótese total o panorama no Brasil no intervalo de cinco anos. Os dados foram catalogados e analisados com o auxílio do software SPSS na versão 16, e apresentados por meio da estatística descritiva. Resultados: Os resultados encontrados mostram que as Regiões Sudeste e Nordeste representam 56,9% e 24,7% da produção científica nacional sobre prótese respectivamente; 79,57% dos trabalhos foram realizados em instituições públicas; os temas mais pesquisados sobre prótese total é o nível de satisfação dos usuários e estabilidade da prótese; o número de publicações é muito flutuante ao longo dos anos. Conclusão: Conclui-se que existem muitas lacunas a serem abordadas sobre próteses totais, como os materiais disponíveis, planejamento e técnicas de moldagem. Objectives: To evaluate the influence of photobiomodulation with infrared laser (IRL) in the rat pulp tissue after bleaching, considering the immunolabeling of interleukin (IL)-23 and hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α. Methodology: The right and left molars of forty rats were divided into groups: Control – with placebo gel and Bleached – with 35% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Half of the rats received one IRL application on both sides, establishing a split-mouth design, which resulted in 4 groups with 20 hemi-maxillae each: Control, Bleach, IRL, and Bleached-IRL. Rats (n=10) from each group were euthanized, at 2- and 30-days mark, and the pulp tissue was evaluated using inflammation and immunolabeling scores. Palatability and swallowability in the pediatric population are perceived as true challenges in the oral administration of medication. Pediatric patients have high sensitivity to taste and reduced ability to take solid dosage forms, which can often lead to a poor therapeutic compliance. It is crucial to find new strategies to simplify the oral administration of drugs to children. The present paper reports the development of a new hydrogel vehicle adapted to the pediatric population. Several polymers with similar properties were selected and adjustments were made to obtain the desired characteristics of the final product. The developed formulations were studied for organoleptic properties, rheology, mucoadhesion properties, preservative efficacy, and stability. Physical and chemical compatibilities between the vehicle and several drugs/medicines, at the time of administration, were also studied. Six final formulations with different polymers, odor, and color were chosen, and no known interactions with medications were observed. Material and Methods: Polyethylene tubes containing materials or empty tubes for control were inserted into the subcutaneous tissues of 30 rats. After 7, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days, the rats were killed and the tubes were removed for analysis using hematoxylin-eosin staining, von Kossa staining, and under polarized light. Inflammation was graded through a score system; the thickness of the fibrous capsule was classified as thin or thick; the biomineralization ability was recorded as present or absent. The results were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test (p0.05). After 30, 60, and 90 days, mild inflammation, and a thin fibrous capsule were observed in all groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: All materials had structures positive for von Kossa and birefringent to polarized light. CER epoxy resin showed biocompatibility and biomineralization similar to CER water and MTA. Methodology: Sixteen Wistar rats were used. Periapical periodontitis was induced in the four first molars in each animal. The animals were arranged into two groups: control (C)—rats with periapical periodontitis; and caffeine (CAF)—rats with periapical periodontitis under caffeine administration protocol. The CAF animals received 10 mg/100 g of body weight/day of caffeine via gavage starting fifteen days before PP induction and continuing for thirty more days until euthanasia. As amidoximas possuem sao amplamente aplicaveis e importantes para os setores industriais, biologicos e farmacologicos. No campo dos compostos bioativos, as amidoximas destacam-se por apresentarem acao frentes a diferentes celulas patologicas, alem de atuarem como pro-farmacos de amidinas em meio biologico. Contudo estudos envolvendo amidoximas estruturalmente mais simples sao pouco comuns, especialmente a respeito do perfil toxicologico desses compostos. Em concordância com a importância desses compostos o presente trabalho objetivou sintetizar a 4-Bromobenzamidoxima e verificar sua toxicidade frente as larvas de Artemia salina Leach. A sintese da respectiva amidoxima foi realizada a partir da correspondente arilnitrila comercialmente disponivel. O composto alvo foi caracterizado utilizando as tecnicas espectroscopicas usuais (IV, RMN 1 H e 13 C). O bioensaio toxicologico do composto alvo com a A. salina apresentou uma toxicidade acentuada com CL 50 igual a 38,549 μg/mL, valor obtido atraves do software estatistico do software POLO-PC. Esse resultado motiva a utilizacao da 4-Bromobenzamidoxima em outros testes biologicos, incluindo em celulas ou ate mesmo animais, na busca de encontrar um novo farmaco.

Objective: Evaluate and compare the antimicrobial efficacy of four different commercially available children’s toothpastes on bacteria growth inhibition from oral microbiota of young children. Material and Method: The toothpastes tested contained: 1100 ppm sodium fluoride, xylitol and 750 ppm sodium fluoride, xylitol and 500 ppm sodium fluoride, and xylitol and triclosan. Twenty 18 to 30 month-old children were selected. Nonstimulated saliva samples were collected and inoculated on brain heart infusion (BHI) agar. Toothpaste dilutions were applied into the agar wells and incubated at 37ºC for 24 hours in microaerophilic conditions. Saline and 0.12% chlorhexidine were used as controls. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de identificar quais são os principais cimentos endodônticos que promovem a alteração de cor dental, além de mostrar quais outros caminhos podem ser seguidos, a fim de evitar o prejuízo estético do dente tratado. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma busca em inglês dos artigos através da base de dados PubMed, MedLine, Cochrane e Lilacs, no período de 2005 a 2020. Resultados: Observou-se que a maioria dos cimentos testados promoveram alterações de cor, especialmente materiais à base de óxido de zinco-eugenol e agregado trióxido mineral, quando aplicados em dentes anteriores, devido à estrutura delgada desse dente. Isso ocorre devido a componentes químicos presentes nesses materiais. Os componentes biocerâmicos são os que promovem menores alterações, quando comparados aos outros materiais citados neste estudo. Considerações Finais: A adequada limpeza da câmara pulpar é fundamental para evitar a descoloração dental após o tratamento endodôntico. O clareamento dental interno e a utilização do agente adesivo dentinário podem ser alternativas para melhorar a estética devido ao escurecimento dental provocado pelos obturadores endodônticos.

Objective: To evaluate the pulp tissue of rat molars after pulpotomies with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Biodentine TM (BDT) and calcium hydroxide (CH) mixed with sterile saline solution (24 hours, 72 hours, 7 days and 15 days), through correlating MPO activity with active neutrophils and MMP8 activity with tissue remodeling . Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the periodontal status of teeth indicated for undergoing endodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: Two hundred and nine teeth were evaluated using probing depth tests at three vestibular and three palatine/lingual sites before the patients underwent treatment. Teeth that presented up to 3-mm probing depth were considered as healthy. Those that presented at least one site with probing depth >3 mm were considered periodontally compromised. The data were statistically analyzed by means of applying the Chi-square test, with a level of significance of 5%. Results: Of the total of 209 teeth evaluated, 40 (19.10%) presented periodontal compromise. There was statistically significant difference related to the compromised teeth of patients of the female gender (22.80%) compared with teeth of patients of the male gender (12.30%) (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Fewer than 20% of the teeth evaluated presented a periodontal compromise. Patients of the female gender presented a higher number of periodontally compromised teeth than patients of the male gender.

Guava is a typically tropical fruit highly perishable with a short shelf-life due to intense metabolic activity after harvested. In attempt to minimize the problems related to the postharvest, we evaluated the physiochemical characteristics and antioxidant system in guava fruits under chitosan coating at concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3% stored at 25 °C during 96 h. The chitosan suppressed the respiratory rate, fresh weight loss, firmness and skin color with delay in the degradation of chlorophyll. In the treatment with 2% and 3% of chitosan in the solid soluble content and ascorbic acid were reduced; retarded the loss of titratable acidity during 96 h after treatment. These treatment induced significant decreases in the phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity and significantly increases of peroxidase Activity. Our results suggest that chitosan effectively prolongs the quality attributes in guava fruits after harvesting due to increases in the antioxidant processes, delaying the ripening during room temperature of storage.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical, radiographic and histological outcomes of the dentin-pulp complex from primary molars after pulpotomy with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and 15.5% ferric sulfate (FS). Thirty-one primary molars were randomly allocated into MTA or FS groups. Clinical and radiographic evaluations were recorded at 3-, 6-, 12- and 18-month follow-up. Teeth at the regular exfoliation period were extracted and processed for histological analysis. Clinical and radiographic data were tested by statistical analysis (p≤0.01). Histological outcomes were analyzed descriptively. All of the treated teeth presented clinical success over the experimental periods. Both groups exhibited 100% of radiographic success at 3, 6 and 12 months. At the 18-month follow-up, one tooth from FS group presented inter-radicular radiolucency (p>0.01). Histologically, the treated teeth presented pulp vitality and absence of inflammatory infiltrate into the connective tissue. Only MTA group showed hard tissue barrier surrounded by odontoblasts over the pulp stumps. Both MTA and 15.5% FS are effective for pulpotomies of primary teeth. Although MTA is considered the first-choice material, FS may be a suitable alternative when treatment cost is an issue. Trinta e um molares decíduos foram alocados aleatoriamente nos grupos MTA ou SF. As avaliações clínicas e radiográficas foram realizadas aos 3, 6, 12 e 18 meses de acompanhamento. Os dentes no período regular de esfoliação foram extraídos e processados para análise histológica. Os dados clínicos e radiográficos foram analisados estatisticamente (p≤0,01). O resultados histológicos foram analisados descritivamente. Todos os dentes tratados apresentaram sucesso clínico ao longo dos períodos experimentais. Ambos os grupos exibiram 100% de sucesso radiográfico aos 3, 6 e 12 meses. Aos 18 meses de acompanhamento, um dente do grupo SF apresentou radiolucidez interradicular (p>0,01). Histologicamente, os dentes tratados apresentaram vitalidade pulpar e ausência de infiltrado inflamatório no tecido conjuntivo. Somente o grupo MTA mostrou barreira de tecido duro rodeada por odontoblastos sobre os cotos pulpares. MTA e SF 15,5% são eficazes para pulpotomias de dentes decíduos. Embora o MTA seja considerado o material de primeira escolha, o SF pode ser uma alternativa adequada quando o custo do tratamento é um problema.

Os traumatismos dentários constituem um problema de saúde de alta frequência em crianças e adultos jovens, e estão associados a consequências psicológicas, funcionais e ainda estéticas. A necrose pulpar é uma das principais consequências após o trauma dental, implicando, dessa forma, na falha do desenvolvimento radicular dos dentes permanentes recém erupcionados, os quais em razão disso permanecem com paredes finas e ápice aberto. O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever uma opção de tratamento que permite, ao mesmo tempo, o fechamento do ápice radicular e o reforço das paredes apicais em dentes imaturos que apresentem status de necrose pulpar após esses sofrerem trauma. Foi utilizado como técnica a apicificação com aplicação única de hidróxido de cálcio. O presente trabalho permitiu concluir que a apicificação com hidróxido de cálcio é uma alternativa de baixo custo, facilmente aplicável na rotina clínica e que apresenta altas taxas de sucesso no tratamento de dentes imaturos traumatizados.

O tratamento de dentes com rizogênese incompleta e necrose pulpar representa um grande desafio para a terapia endodôntica, principalmente pela fragilidade das paredes radiculares desses dentes. Uma terapêutica que pode ser realizada é a revascularização pulpar com o objetivo de substituir estruturas danificadas, incluindo estruturas dentinárias e radiculares, bem como células do complexo dentino-pulpar com um tecido que permita a continuação da formação da raiz em espessura e tamanho. Esses procedimentos demonstraram ser capazes de promover o desenvolvimento continuado da raiz, aumentando assim a espessura e a resistência das raízes anteriormente finas e propensas à fratura. Este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar, através de uma revisão da literatura, um estudo sobre a revascularização pulpar e sua importância clínica no tratamento de dentes acometidos por necrose pulpar e cuja formação apical ainda não se completou. Para este estudo, foi realizado um levantamento na plataforma PubMed, em que foram incluídos artigos publicados entre 2004 e 2021. A revascularização pulpar pode ser considerada como uma alternativa promissora como tratamento para dentes com rizogênese incompleta e necrose pulpar, tendo vantagens potenciais em relação ao tradicional processo de apicificação.
