Background: Amidst current misinformation, media literacy is an essential competency for nursing professionals. This study aimed to analyze the level of media health literacy among Spanish undergraduate nursing students, stratifying the results by gender, region, and other associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at five Spanish universities (N = 416) using the Spanish version of the Media Health Literacy (MeHLit-SV) Questionnaire. Results: Students presented an average media health literacy score of 48.73 points. The media health literacy level was significantly higher among students from universities in the central and northeastern regions of Spain (ANOVA Test, p = 0.0002), those who had previously studied in a city (ANOVA Test, p = 0.001), those who combined their studies with employment (ANOVA Test, p = 0.001), and those residing in communities with fewer than 500 inhabitants (ANOVA Test, p = 0.001). No differences were found based on gender. Conclusions: The media health literacy level of the students was deficient and varied according to socio-economic and socio-educational factors. Understanding the literacy level of future nurses and promoting the inclusion of this competency in their education will enable them to become leaders in improving the population's health self-care. In recent years, there has been an increase in the practice of chemsex, which is becoming an increasingly serious public health problem. The complex interaction between chemsex and mental health underscores the need to understand the psychological, social, and environmental factors that influence this practice. Methods: A qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was conducted in the community of Madrid, Spain to explore the depth of the chemsex phenomenon through a thematic analysis. Between April and June 2024, interviews were conducted with 15 MSM (gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men) who participate in these practices, using purposive and snowball sampling. Results: three main themes were identified, namely, (T1) contextualization of the practice, (T2) factors associated with chemsex, and (T3) strategies and interventions for risk and harm reduction. Conclusion: Chemsex is a phenomenon that combines sexual practices with substance use in complex social environments, presenting significant risks to physical, mental, and sexual health. It is necessary to implement public health interventions to mitigate these risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Chemsex has been defined as the deliberate use of drugs for prolonged sexual intercourse between gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM). Drugs associated with chemsex can trigger mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, risk of psychosis and suicidal ideation, social isolation, stigmatization, and even loss of impulse control and lack of coping strategies. Currently, the increase in illicit drugs in a sexual context is considered an outbreak of a public health emergency. Objective: The aim of this study is the construction and validation of the Chem-Sex Inventory (CSI), a new scale to assess the mental health risk of chemsex behaviors. Methods: A cross-sectional design was conducted to study 563 participants. Data were collected through an online questionnaire between January and April 2023, and the construct validity of the CSI was assessed through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The sample was, on average, 36 years old (SD: ±9.2). The majority of gender identity was cisgender (97.7%). A factor structure was found that can be summarized in four dimensions: emotional instability, risk of psychosis, altered body perception, and risk of suicide. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) presents adequate reliability values, with a Cronbach's alpha above 0.87 for all dimensions and a McDonald's omega above 0.88 with a good fit of the 42 items. Conclusions: Our study has shown that the Chem-Sex Inventory (CSI) scale has factorial validity and could be used in clinical practice and research to measure the behavioral contribution of the chemsex phenomenon in MSM. The phenomenon of chemsex has emerged as an essential public health issue in recent years. This systematic review aimed to investigate currently available harm reduction strategies and to evaluate the efficacy of the corresponding interventions. Methods: A systematic review of the scientific literature related to harm and risk reduction strategies and the effectiveness of chemsex interventions. Between January 2024 and May 2024, the articles were retrieved from the electronic databases Pubmed, Web of Science, Scopus, PsycInfo, Cochrane, Dialnet, CUIDEN, and SciELO. The review protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database (registration number CRD42024508953). The inclusion criteria were as follows: (I) original studies published in peer-reviewed journals, (II) studies exploring harm reduction interventions for chemsex, and (III) studies reflecting the efficacy of harm reduction interventions for chemsex. Two reviewers independently selected articles by title, abstract, and full paper review and extracted data. Two authors described the selected studies and assessed their methodological quality. Results: The systematic review comprised six scientific papers that met the selection criteria and were obtained from five countries. Although a limited number of studies were included, it was observed that they presented a medium–high methodological quality. Programs evaluated interventions to reduce harm from chemsex, such as a web-based intervention that improved self-efficacy to refuse risky behaviors and accept HIV testing. The studies suggested that peer-led programs can be effective, especially with facilitators who have experienced chemsex dependence. Conclusion: Harm reduction strategies in chemsex are effective and should be promoted by health professionals. Interventions should be accessible, personalized, and non-judgmental to provide appropriate care and support, ensuring a comprehensive and effective public health response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: The increase in indications for hematopoietic cell transplants (HCTs) has led to the development of new care options after said transplant, such as home care after transplantation, which improves the patients' quality of life. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the differences in the appearance of post-transplant complications between patients having underwent autologous HCT with at-home post-transplant modalities and those under in-hospital post-transplant care. Materials and Methods: An observational, analytical, longitudinal, and retrospective study of cases and controls. All transplanted people in the domiciliary model since 2020 are included as cases (20 subjects). For each case, two controls (40 subjects) are proposed among patients who received an autologous transplant in a hospital in the last five years with a similar demographic and pathological base profile in each case. Results: No significant differences were found between cases and controls, except for the Karnofsky value, which was higher in people receiving home treatment (91.7% vs. 87.74%; p = 0.05). The average number of days of the process post-transplantation was more significant at home (processing days 22.4 ± 2.6; post-transplantation days of 16.4 ± 2.08 versus 21.21 ± 4.18, with a mean of 15.51 ± 3.96 days post-transplant (days of the process p = 0.022; days post-transplant p = 0.002)). There is a more significant presence of neutropenic fever, mucositis, and positive blood cultures in the post-transplant patients who remain in the hospital. In contrast, the patients receiving home care post-transplantation undergo significantly more weight loss. Regarding the odds ratio of the appearance of adverse events, in the hospital setting, it is up to 8.5 times more likely to encounter neutropenic fever, 4.63 times more likely for mucositis, and 6.65 times more likely for the presence of pathogens in blood cultures. Conclusions: The home care modality in the post-transplant phase does not show an inferiority in conditions in the management and safety of the patient concerning the appearance of adverse events. However, more significant weight loss is detected in patients at home, and an increased risk of episodes of neutropenic fever, mucositis, and positive blood cultures for patients in hospital settings. The coronaviral pandemic has led to a shift in traditional teaching methods to more innovative approaches, such as high-fidelity patient simulation (HFPS), which can improve students' clinical judgment and decision making for quality patient care. A modified guideline was introduced to enhance students' satisfaction and self-confidence in learning through HFPS. The study involved 189 baccalaureate nursing students, with 92 in the intervention group and 97 in the control group. The intervention group received the modified HFPS guideline, while the control group received standard treatment with basic instruction. After the HFPS debriefing session, students provided narrative feedback on their learning experiences. The quantitative results showed that students in the intervention group reported a significant improvement in satisfaction and self-confidence in learning compared to the control group. The modified HFPS guideline provided clear guidance for students to learn and apply knowledge and skills more effectively, leading to increased engagement during interactive simulation sessions. The results suggest that the HFPS guideline should be added to the curriculum to enhance students' satisfaction and self-confidence in learning, even for junior students. After the pandemic, innovative teaching methods, such as HFPS, can be necessary and beneficial for healthcare professional training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to determine the degree of alarm fatigue and mental workload of ICU nurses, and to clarify the relationship between these two variables. A cross-sectional, descriptive research design was used. Data were collected from 90 nurses working in four ICUs in Seoul, Republic of Korea, using a questionnaire determining their degree of alarm fatigue and mental workload. Data were collected from 6 March to 26 April 2021 and were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The average alarm-fatigue score was 28.59 out of 44. The item with the highest score was "I often hear a certain amount of noise in the ward", with a score of 3.59 out of 4. The average of the mental workload scores was 75.21 out of 100. The highest mental workload item was effort, which scored 78.72 out of 100. No significant correlation was found between alarm fatigue and mental workload. Although nurses were consistently exposed to alarm fatigue, this was not directly related to their mental workloads, perhaps owing to their professional consciousness as they strived to accomplish tasks despite alarm fatigue. However, since alarm fatigue can affect efficiency, investigations to reduce it and develop appropriate guidelines are necessary. This study was not registered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION. The increasing in life expectancy, together with the changes in the epidemiological pattern have caused an increase in the number of people who will need to receive palliative care. Nursing professionals must have adequate training in order to take care of people with chronic diseases in an advanced phase and / or at the end of life. Several organizations talk about the nurses’ key role in the provision of palliative care, as well as the fact that every professional must receive at least a basic training in this area, which should be given during their degree training. Even so, training in palliative care in nursing degree is very heterogeneous in our country, and not all Colleges have training in this area. A validated instrument to assess the level of nursing knowledge in palliative care is the Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing (PCQN), developed by professors from the University of Otawa and which has been used in several researches and translated into different languages (Korean, Persian, French and Thai). PURPOSES: - Develop a Spanish version of the PCQN (PCQN-SV) and analyze its psychometric properties. - Analyze the level of knowledge in palliative care of both Spanish registered nurses and nursing students, and develop a predictive model of this level of knowledge. - Analyze palliative care contents of the different nursing degree study plans. - Asses the utility of Internet and Internet-based social networks as a tool for data collecting and analysis in research processes. METHODS: To develop the Spanish version, a translation / back-translation process was followed, after which each question of the PCQN-SV was evaluated by a group of experts to determine the content validity indexes of every item and the global questionnaire. Subsequently, the questionnaire was piloted through a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in a Spanish hospital, which also served to analyze the internal consistency and difficulty of such instrument. After the piloting and the implementation in the PCQN-SV of some modifications suggested, a study was designed to measure the level of knowledge in palliative care of nursing professionals, in which an online questionnaire was used. This questionnaire was disseminated using Facebook and Twitter. In addition, this diffusion was analyzed by measuring the correlation between the number of times the questionnaire was shared and the responses that were received. To measure the level of knowledge in palliative care of the group of nursing students, and after piloting the questionnaire among a group of students from the University of Valencia, a multicenter study in which five nursing faculties cooperated was designed. Finally, a content analysis of the Spanish nursing degree programs was carried out in order to show the frequency of appearance of several key concepts in the field of palliative care. In the studies designed to measure the level of knowledge in palliative care of both nursing professionals and students, some population descriptive variables were also collected. The subsequent bivariate analysis allowed us to analyze relationships between variables, as well as to identify which variables could be explanatory of the differences obtained, so as to elaborate with them a binary logistic regression model that could be used as a predictor of the final results in the PCQN -SV. RESULTS. The Spanish version of the PCQN has shown adequate levels of global content validity (CVI = 0.83) and internal validity (Cronbach's alpha= 0.64 and KR-20= 0.71), as well as an adequate distribution of items with high, low and medium difficulty. In the group of nursing professionals, we found a percentage of correct answers in the PCQN-SV of 61.38 %, with statistically significant differences according to their training and professional experience in palliative care, the type of training received and the scope in which they developed their activity assistance. Both previous experience and training in palliative care have been shown to be predictive variables of the results in the PCQN-SV: the subjects with experience or training in this area have about 50% probability of obtaining a percentage of correct answers in the questionnaire above the average of their population. In the group of nursing students, we found a percentage of correct answers in the PCQN-SV of 54.02%, with statistically significant differences depending on the course and the faculty in which they were enrolled, as well as having received training in palliative care. Both academic year and training in palliative care have been shown to be predictive variables of the results in the PCQN-SV: the students with training in this field have about a 70% probability of obtaining a percentage of correct answers in the questionnaire above the average of their population. Moreover, as they get enrolled into a superior course, the probability of obtaining results superior to the average increases by 35%. On the other hand, the analysis of the utility of social networks showed an important influence on the number of responses obtained (we found a correlation between the number of times the questionnaire was shared and the number of responses received), but it did not influence the results obtained in the PCQN-SV. The content analysis of the training programs identified the low presence of concepts such as "advanced disease" and "quality of life", and showed the heterogeneity of the training offered to nursing students. CONCLUSIONS. The PCQN-SV has shown to be a useful tool to measure the level of knowledge in palliative care of nursing professionals and students as well as to identify aspects to improve in their training. The groups of Spanish professionals and nursing students obtain results in the PCQN-SV, indicators of their level of training, that could be considered low-average and that would improve with both theoretical and practical training in this field.

- Abstract
Introduction: Media health literacy emerges as a response to the vast array of informational disorders prevalent in media communications. Given the absence of a measurement tool for this type of literacy in Spanish-speaking communities, the aim of the present study is to conduct a cross-cultural adaptation of the Media Health Literacy (MeHLit) questionnaire into Spanish and to analyze its psychometric properties in a sample of nursing students., Methods: The Spanish version of the MeHLit questionnaire (MeHLit-SV) was obtained through a process involving translation, back-translation, evaluation of the proposed items by a group of 22 experts, and a pilot study with 80 Spanish nursing students. Content validity was assessed using each item's content validity index (CVI) and Aiken's V (VdA), while internal consistency was evaluated through Cronbach's Alpha., Results: Following the translation and adaptation process, the final version of the MeHLit-SV comprised 21 items organized into five dimensions. The CVI values exceeded 0.82 for all items, and the overall content validity index (S-CVI) was 0.9. Furthermore, the results of Aiken's V surpassed the threshold considered acceptable (0.70). After piloting, the questionnaire demonstrated high internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.936., Conclusion: The findings of this research support the reliability and validity of the MeHLit-SV for use among nursing students to measure their level of media health literacy. This questionnaire, with satisfactory psychometric properties and ease of administration, is an useful tool for assessing whether individuals possess the necessary skills to accurately analyze health information they encounter on a daily basis., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024 Navas-Echazarreta, Juárez-Vela, Martínez-Sabater, Gea-Caballero, Chover-Sierra, Echaniz-Serrano, Ruiz de Viñaspre-Hernández, Jodrá-Esteban, Sánchez-Conde, Fernández-Rodrigo, Rodríguez-Calvo and Satústegui-Dordá.)
