The article challenges the popular belief that smartphones and social media are causing anxiety in young people. Instead, the author argues that it is often parents who are overly anxious about their children's phone use. The evidence linking phone use to mental health issues in young people is limited and inconclusive. The decline in outdoor play among children predates the widespread use of smartphones and is influenced by changing parental attitudes towards safety. The author suggests that open dialogue is more effective than trying to control teenagers' behavior based on anxieties. [Extracted from the article]
