Intercultural contact is a well-studied phenomenon and particularly relevant in the context of migration. However, research in this field often treats immigrants as independent entities and ignores their role in social structures. An approach that can account for the complex dynamics and relational interdependencies underlying immigrants’ acculturation processes is the social network approach. We illustrate the value of bringing in a personal social network perspective to the study of intercultural contact with two cases: (1) Eritrean and Syrian refugees in Germany and (2) Ecuadorian, Moroccan, Pakistani, and Romanian immigrants in Barcelona, Spain. We conclude with some thoughts on the conceptual and methodological benefits of the social network approach and some reflections on policy implications., easy social sciences No. 66 (2021): Content Meets Structure - Social Network Perspectives Starting Point and Frequency: Year: 1989, Issues per Year: 2, easy social sciences

No. 66 (2021): Content Meets Structure - Social Network Perspectives Starting Point and Frequency: Year: 1989, Issues per Year: 2, easy social sciences

- Abstract
Among interviewing context factors, the level of interviewer experience has been observed to be associated with item nonresponse rates in surveys (Singer et al., 1983, Bailar et al., 1977; Pickery & Loosveldt, 1998). The findings regarding the direction of this association, however, are equivocal. This dissertation addresses competing theories behind the relationship between interviewer experience and item nonresponse. The explored experience types are general interviewer experience, gained via survey administration during a lifetime, and within-study interviewer exposure, gained during administration of a particular study fielding period. Item nonresponse was measured via respondents’ “don’t know” responses. To date, methodological studies examining the relationship between interviewer experience and data quality focused on standardized interviews. As the interviewing technique—standardized or flexible—relates to data quality, this dissertation discusses the relationship between interviewer experience, exposure, and item nonresponse in both conventional standardized and flexible calendar interviews. Participants sampled from the 2001 Panel Study of Income Dynamics study were interviewed via telephone. This dissertation used a random sample of these interviews to examine the study-relevant verbal behaviors used by both interviewers and respondents during the question administration process in 165 calendar and 162 standardized interviews. The interviewer and respondent behaviors studied are: 1) Interviewer deviation from conventional ideals, 2) Interviewer and respondent interpersonal dynamics, and 3) Interviewer and respondent retrieval strategies. Overall, interviewer experience and exposure are positively associated with item nonresponse in both standardized and calendar interviews. The inclusion of the three sets of verbal behaviors moderated this relationship. The association between interviewer and respondent behaviors and item non-response changed depending on

Doğu ve Batı Türkistan'da konuşulan Eski Türkçe yazı dilinden gelişen, İlk îslamî Türk edebî dili Karahanlı Türkçesidir. XI. Karahan Tirkish is the first literary language of the early Islamic period which developed from the old Turkish of East and West Türkistan. In this period, (XI-XIII th centuries) Kasgarlx Mahmûd has completed his extraordinary dictionary in 1973, Dxvanu Lug It-it-Turk which reflects the vocabulary of Turkic dialects of XI. th century. Originally, Kasgarlx uses the Arabic punctuation system in the preparation of Divân. Thus, the short vowels of Turkish words are written as vocalized vowels, and the long vowels are displayed by letters of prolongation. However, he not always followed this rule, on the contrary, in most cases he displayed short vowels with letters of prolongation under the influence of Uigur punctuation system. For this reason, it is not possible to determine the long vowels in Turkish words by simply examining the punctuation system of Dîvân. Thus, to achieve this end, one must refer to comperative method. Throughout this study the long vowels are not displayed seperately* all vowels are given as short vowels Kasgarlx has classified Turkish words according to the phonetic structure of Arabic words and divided hisvx dictionery into eight chapters. These eight chapters or `books` appear in the dictionary in the following order: 1. The Book of Hemze 2. The Book of Salim 3. The Book of Muzaaf 4. The Book of Misal 5. The Book of Three eonsonant stems 6. The Book of Four consonant stems 7. The Book of Gunne 8. The Book of Words endinging in double consonants Each book further divided into two sections / nouns and verbs, where nouns preceeding verbs. Naturally, the dictionary uses the terms of Arabic Grammer. This study tries to determine the derivational suffixes by analysing the language material presented in Divân. These suffixes are categorized under four headings: 1. Denominal noun suffixes 2. Denominal verb sufixes 3. Deverbal noun suffixes 4. Deverbal verb suffixes There are also other words in Dîvân which are formed through the process of combination. Such words are listed under the heading, `Word formation through combination` as a seperate chapter in the study. 196
