O presente artigo propõe a elaboração de um Tesauro de Filosofia Antiga – o Ágora – para ser utilizado como instrumento pedagógico de ensino, no qual o professor de Filosofia do Ensino Médio pode se valer como recurso metodológico para aulas mais dinâmicas e participativas. A problemática se origina das dificuldades inerentes a prática docente no cenário nacional atual, marcado pelas disputas políticas e ideológicas, bem como a completa adoção das novas tecnologias por parte dos estudantes. A pesquisa é de natureza teórica e com abordagem qualitativa, e configura-se, de acordo com os meios e os fins, como bibliográfica e descritiva, respectivamente. Para garantir a estruturação do Tesauro de modo a atender o aspecto educacional, foi incluído a teoria da Linguística Textual, bem como as diretrizes de construção de Tesauros sob o viés de pesquisadores e das normas internacionais de padronização, como a ISSO. As etapas metodológicas da pesquisa foram divididas em quatro: a seleção e escolha dos recursos bibliográficas; o levantamento dos termos e atribuição de conceitos fundamentais; a etapa de categorização que estrutura os descritores do Tesauro; e a utilização do software THESA para a construção do Tesauro. A conclusão que alcançamos é que o Ágora se revela um poderoso aliado educacional, uma vez que as notas explicativas podem oferecer definições objetivas de conceitos e correntes filosóficas importantes, interligadas a partir de relações lógico-semânticas.

El desarrollo de las competencias informacionales, como lo son el acceso, la evaluación y el uso de la información, ocupa un lugar preponderante en la formación inicial docente. Al respecto, se comparte un estudio cuyo objetivo es analizar aspectos del ‘qué’ y el ‘cómo’ de la investigación sobre competencias informacionales en la formación inicial docente, reto asumido desde una revisión sistemática de 24 artículos en Scopus y Web of Science del periodo 2013-2023. Los resultados revelan la prevalencia del enfoque cuantitativo, y los objetivos de investigación se enmarcan en cuatro horizontes de estudio: la evaluación, la formación, la relación con otras competencias, y otros agentes.

Com a Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais em vigor desde 2020 no Brasil, muitas organizações estão sendo levadas a implementar práticas de tratamento de dados. Isso tem sido foco de diferentes áreas do conhecimento como Ciência da Informação, Gestão da Informação e Tecnologia da Informação. Tais áreas tem buscado entender e incorporar os requisitos legais da Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais no contexto dos processos organizacionais e como implementá-los por meio de sistemas de informação. Neste contexto, uma dificuldade enfrentada é a realização do tratamento de dados por meio de serviços web (p.ex., coleta, armazenamento, processamento, exclusão) disponibilizados e acessados por diversos sistemas de informação, inclusive entre distintas organizações. Identificar quais serviços realizam tratamento de dados pessoais e, com base nisso, realizar práticas em conformidade com a Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais, é um aspecto fundamental. Neste trabalho, é proposta uma abordagem para enriquecimento semântico de descrição de serviços web REST usando anotações baseadas na OpenAPI e em uma ontologia de referência do domínio de Privacidade de Dados (OntoPrivacy). A partir dessa abordagem espera-se fornecer mais informações, por meio de meta-dados, sobre quais as operações de tratamento um serviço realiza e quais os tipos de dados sensíveis são manipulados. Em conjunto com a abordagem, foi desenvolvido um software (Privacy Finder) que dá suporte à localização automática das anotações nas APIs de serviços descritas. A solução proposta foi aplicada à Application Programming Interface Pix do Banco Central do Brasil com forma de validação. Ademais, a solução foi analisada à luz de trabalhos correlatos existentes na literatura, assim como de produções técnicas cujos registros de programas de computador encontravam-se na base do Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Intelectual, o que evidenciou também uma tendência no crescimento de tais produções, principalmente, a partir do ano de publicação da referida lei.

Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary area that uses biological systems, living organisms and derivatives to modify specific products and processes. In agribusiness, Biotechnology plays a fundamental role in large-scale food production, being considered essential to face food crises. This bibliometric study aims to analyze and present the advances and applications of Biotechnology in the agribusiness sector, using the scientific production available in the main Web of Science database from 2018 to 2023. Biotechnology applied to agriculture encompasses genetic engineering techniques to improve plants, animals and microorganisms. In addition to contributing to food security, this area is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goalsof the United Nations2030 Agenda. It was found that Biotechnology is a transversal theme that covers more technical areas, with a mix of topics such as nanotechnology, genetic engineering, regulatory issues, risks and positive and negative impacts, innovation, forms of seed reproduction, sustainability and green applications. Authors, institutions and countries that stood out are from: United States, China, India, United Kingdom, Brazil, Korea, Poland, France and Germany. This research demonstratedadvances and applications in order to reduce negative risks, innovations arising from new techniques and the technical and legal challenges faced by researchers in this field of study and provided valuable insights, contributing to the development of Biotechnology applied in agribusiness, promoting not only scientific and technological advances, but also addressing social and environmental issues.In addition to demonstrating that biotechnological applications in agribusiness range from genetic improvements in agricultural crops to the creation of biodegradable materials and sustainable solutions.

O Poder Judiciário brasileiro, em seu planejamento estratégico,desponta como pioneiro na incorporação dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Agenda 2030 da Organização das Nações Unidas.Tal evidência permeia o objetivodeste estudono intuito deanalisar a gestão de sustentabilidade na perspectiva dos bibliotecários servidores dos Tribunais Regionais Federais. Quanto aos procedimentos metodológicos empregados, em relação aos procedimentos técnicos configura-se como bibliográfica e documental, em relação aos objetivos do estudo caracteriza-se como exploratória e descritiva. Para o tratamento dos dados adotou-se abordagem qualitativa,pontualmente a técnica de análise de conteúdo, apartir dos resultados provenientes da aplicação de questionário semiestruturado. Verificou-se que do total de 27 Tribunais Regionais Federais analisados, seguem o padrão metodológico do Conselho Nacional de Justiça, priorizando as dimensões ambiental e econômica do Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Pode se inferir que,embora agestão de sustentabilidade dos respectivos Tribunais não esteja devidamente alinhada com os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável,manifestainteresse no desenvolvimento de governança responsável,colocando a questãoem pauta. Constatou-se que a participação dos bibliotecários nas ações de sustentabilidade é limitada, mesmo com o reconhecimento da importância do alinhamento com a Agenda 2030. Nesse contexto, evidencia-se a relevância de os tribunais ampliarem suas ações de sustentabilidade, incluindo osbibliotecários servidores no planejamento, gestãoe execuçãodessas ações, visando uma gestão inclusiva, equitativa, sustentável e informacional. Por fim, destaca-seque as competências que detêm os bibliotecários, efetivamente, deveriam conscientizar e mobilizar e promover a Sustentabilidade Informacional no Poder Judiciário.

Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar o processo de regulação normativa do acervo acadêmico das Instituições de Ensino Superior, públicas e privadas, vinculadasao Sistema Federal de Ensino. Tal processo é entendido como parte da política pública arquivística. A partir de 2013 o Ministério da Educaçãovem editando diversas portarias e notas técnicas regulando e orientando a produção e a guarda do chamado acervo acadêmico. Os documentos também foram objeto de um decreto federal. A metodologia da investigação apoiou-se no estudo das normas sobre o acervo acadêmico, esquadrinhadas à luz de conceitos arquivísticos e da legislação basilar da política pública arquivística brasileira. Como resultado da pesquisa, restou demonstrada a imprecisão sobre o conceito de acervo acadêmico ao longo do tempo. Também foi percebido o descompasso, ou aincongruência, entre os conceitos e os procedimentos definidos nas normas sobre tal conceito e a teoria arquivística, inserida na literatura do campo. Tal descompasso prejudicou a implantação da política pública arquivística voltada para as Instituições de Ensino Superior, visto que as normas estabelecidas pelo Ministério da Educaçãoforam marcadas por lacunas, omissões, imprecisões e falhas conceituais

A literatura infantil é um dos dispositivos para compor o repertório social e colaborar com a formação identitária das crianças. Nesse trabalho refletiu-se acerca da presença de protagonistas negros na literatura infantil brasileira e as possibilidades de mediações visandoàeducação antirracista na escola. Trata-se de uma investigação de natureza qualitativa usando a metodologia da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, tendo como principais documentos os sites governamentais e institucionais onde foram localizadas as obras de literatura infantil brasileira com protagonistas negros, publicadas a partir da Lei n.11.645/2008 e reconhecidas pelos prêmios: Jabuti, Fundação Nacional do Livro Infantil e Juvenil, e Biblioteca Nacional. As buscas nos referidos documentos digitais permitiram identificar as obras: Obax, Hortência das tranças, Contos de Moçambique e Da minha janelacom os prêmios citados, usando como recorte temporal as premiações realizadas entre 2008 e 2022. Posteriormente essas obras foram analisadas e serviram de base para a construção de um instrumento pedagógico para o bibliotecário escolar. As análises mostraram que as quatro obras atendema todos os princípios elencados na Diretrizes curriculares nacionais para a educação das relações étnico-raciais e para o ensino de história cultura afro-brasileira e africana.Conclui-se que o número de obras de literatura infantil com protagonistas negros premiadas no Brasil ainda é pequeno e as existentes necessitam de divulgação para ampliar sua circulação e uso.

O trabalho ora apresentado faz parte da tese de doutoramento e teve como objeto a avaliação de documentos realizada sob a perspectiva do tipo documental em contraponto àavaliação de documentos sob a perspectiva dos “assuntos”, no contexto do Poder Executivo estadual brasileiro. Objetivou-se conceituar e analisar a avaliação como função arquivística aplicada aos documentos de arquivo, tendo como base o tipo documental e o assunto, realizando um estudo sobre os métodos e as formas de utilização de cada tipo de abordagem, visando obter como resultado a definição de qual deles possui mais potencialidades a partir de uma realidade definida. O estudo foi realizado na perspectiva da análise implementada nas tabelas de temporalidade e destinação de documentos produzidas no âmbito dos Programas de Gestão de Documentos dos Estados do Rio de Janeiro e Minas Gerais. A escolha de aferir a utilização dos instrumentos de gestão nessas duas perspectivas se dá pelanecessidade de contribuir para os arquivos públicos do Poder Executivo estadual e para os arquivistas, no que se refere à importância de decidir por uma metodologia aplicável, já no momento de concepção dos instrumentos de gestão, especialmente a tabela de temporalidade de documentos. Adotou-se o estudo de caso comparado visando, a partir de elementos comparáveis, obter dados sobre as características do processo avaliativo em cada um dos arquivos selecionados para a pesquisa. O tipo documental utilizado como parâmetro de definição da série demonstrou sua capacidade de contribuir para um processo avaliativo mais próximo da objetividade, principalmente quando comparado ao “assunto”.

As ações culturais em âmbito editorial, educativo e de difusão cultural poderiam ocorrer de modo virtual, ampliando o seu escopo quanto ao seu papel social, educacional e cultural no tocante à função arquivística. Essa investigação teve como objetivo geral analisar os serviços de ação cultural digital nos arquivos públicos das capitais, localizados naregião nordeste doBrasil. A pesquisa foi de natureza exploratória e descritiva com abordagem qualitativa.Foram analisados sessenta sites de instituições arquivísticas localizadas nas nove capitais do Nordeste brasileiro, que constam no Cadastro Nacional de Entidade Custodiadora de Acervos Arquivísticos e no Diretório Brasil de Arquivos. A coleta de dados foi acrescida de levantamento de bibliografia na Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação e no GoogleScholare de questionário aplicadoàs instituições via GoogleForms. Por meio desse levantamento, foram gerados um quadro eváriosgráficos, analisados com base na leitura e na interpretação de literatura especializada. Como resultados, observou-se que os arquivos investigados, em sua maioria, não trabalham com atividades voltadaspara ações culturais digitais; apenas dezoito instituições, mesmo com a pós-pandemia. Sem dúvida, a internet foi uma ferramenta importante neste período como forma de comunicação. Contudo,os arquivos ainda se centram nas atividades de organização e de guarda, privando-os de sua natureza cultural e educacional. Constou-se que a administração necessita implementar estratégiasquanto ao uso da tecnologia em instituições arquivísticas em prol da difusão dos acervos e da promoção do conhecimento, atravésdos sites das instituiçõesarquivísticas. Conclui-se que a ação cultural digital pode ser usada como ferramenta para garantir a popularização e o acesso ao patrimônio documental dos arquivos para a relevância dos serviços de difusão. A falta de execução dessas políticas na prática arquivística, mesmo depois de um período pós-pandemia, demonstra a necessidade dos gestores públicos em revisar suas ações, sugerindo aos arquivos estudados o uso do software Access to Memorycomo plataforma de acesso e de difusão/transparência ativa.

Este estudo tem como objetivo principal analisar a produção científica brasileira nos últimos 30 anos sobre arquivologia e memória.Para isso, foram coletados 26 artigos na Base de Dados Referencial de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informaçãono período de 1990 a 2020. A pesquisa é de caráter exploratória, documental e descritiva. Utiliza-se do método da Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin para estabelecer critérios para os indicadores e as categorias de análise. Foram definidos cinco indicadores, de acordo com a frequência em que apareceram nos 26 artigos, sendo: a memória nos arquivos públicos; relação entre memória, história e arquivos; patrimônio, memória e identidade; arquivos e seus acervos como fontes de informação; e políticas públicas de memória e arquivos. E para as categorias de análise estabeleceram-se três: memória e arquivos; fontes de informação; e patrimônio documental. A partir dos dados analisados, ficou evidente a relação entre arquivologia e memória, no entanto, apesar dessa estreita no empirismo ou no dia a dia dos arquivos, ainda está sendo produzida de uma forma muito tímida, ou seja, num período de 30 anos, apareceram no total 26 woartigos. O estudo reitera a existência de uma relação intrínseca entre a arquivologia e a memória, especialmente em aspectos como a preservação do patrimônio documental e os arquivos como fontes de informação histórica e cultural. O estudo revela uma conexão significativa entre arquivologia e memória no contexto brasileiro, mas também destaca a necessidade de ampliar os esforços de pesquisa e políticas públicas para melhor entender e valorizar essa relação do ponto de vista acadêmico.

A institucionalização e consequentemente a preservação de arquivos pessoais de mulheres é quantitativamente menor quando comparado aos arquivos pessoais de homens, nas instituições de salvaguarda de acervos. Desta forma este artigo visa refletir as formas de disponibilização dos arquivos pessoais de mulheres institucionalizados. Para tal, discutiremos a elaboração de instrumentos de pesquisa como forma de ampliação do acesso a esses arquivos. A metodologia se deu por meio de revisão de literatura de caráter descritivo sobre arquivos pessoais, arquivos pessoais de mulheres e na pesquisa nos instrumentos de pesquisa institucionais para compararmos a quantidade de arquivos considerando a perspectiva de gênero. Ainda que em menor número a acessibilidade desses arquivos potencializa as pesquisas sobre mulheres contrapondo a sua invisibilidade histórica. Essa acessibilidade pode ser ampliada por meio de elaboração de instrumentos de pesquisa, mas deve ser atrelado aos usos de tecnologia objetivando uma maior divulgação.

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo saber em que medida as políticas públicas brasileiras Plano Nacional do Livro e Leitura e Política Nacional de Leitura e Escrita se harmonizam com o Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável 4, de educação de qualidade, da Organização das Nações Unidas sob uma perspectiva de sustentabilidade social. Para esse fim, foi necessária uma pesquisa de método misto, devido às abordagens quantitativa e qualitativa para lidar com os dados. Escolhemos o método de pesquisa Análise de Conteúdo para analisá-los. Especificamente, usamos a técnica de análise categórica e estabelecemos um sistema de codificação. As políticas públicas Plano Nacional do Livro e Leitura e Política Nacional de Leitura e Escrita se unem a apenas três das dez metas do Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável 4, sendo elas: (1) garantir processos de aprendizagem significativos (meta 4.1); (2) oferecer bolsas de estudo para o desenvolvimento profissional (meta 4.b); e (3) desenvolver programas de formação de professores (meta 4.c). Entretanto, foram observados outros vínculos não relacionados a esse Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Eles dizem respeito ao seguinte: (1) direitos autorais e economia do livro; (2) práticas sociais de leitura; (3) ambientes de aprendizagem onde promover a leitura; (4) pesquisas e estudos sobre a cadeia produtiva do livro e o mercado de consumo de informação; (5) uso da tecnologia para aprimorar as práticas de promoção da leitura; e (6) simbolismo durante as atividades de promoção da leitura. O estudo conclui que apesar do potencial das políticas públicas brasileiras de promoção da leitura para alavancar uma educação de qualidade no âmbito da sustentabilidade social, os documentos analisados ​​não apresentam correlações significativas com o Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável 4 da Agenda 2030. Isto sugere que o Plano Nacional do Livro e Leitura e a Política Nacional de Leitura e Escrita devem, até 2030, incorporar os sete requisitos que faltam do Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável de Educação de Qualidade (metas 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 e 4.a), evidenciar todas as dez metas e estabelecer uma política pública para a promoção da leitura baseada no desenvolvimento sustentável.

A interdisciplinaridade está na gênese da Ciência da Informação como área do conhecimento, porém há controvérsias, e se faz necessário ampliar as investigações. O objetivo deste artigo foi investigar as relações interdisciplinares e suas intensidades na Ciência da Informação brasileira. Foi uma pesquisa exploratória, de natureza aplicada e com abordagem quantitativa. A amostra analisada compreendeu a produção científica registrada na Plataforma Lattes de 359 docentes atuantes em 26 Programas de Pós-Graduação stricto sensu em Ciência da Informação do Brasil, no período de 2013 a 2020, totalizando 1529 registos bibliográficos de artigos com estrato Qualis. Como técnicas de análise de informações foram utilizadas a bibliometria e o algoritmo Apriori, para a construção de Regras de Associação, com base nas áreas de atuação dos coautores. Os resultados alcançados compreendem um conjunto de indicadores: 1] evolução das práticas de coautoria; 2] distribuição das áreas heterogêneas autodeclaradas; 3] identificação do core interdisciplinar da Ciência da Informação, formado pelas áreas: Ciência da Computação, Educação, Administração, Comunicação e Museologia e; 4] principais temáticas investigadas pela Ciência da Informação, em suas práticas interdisciplinares. Conclui-se que a geração de Regras de Associação a partir das áreas de atuação e da produção científica, autodeclaradas na Plataforma Lattes, pelos docentes atuantes nos Programas de Pós-Graduação, contribui para a compreensão das intensidades e relações interdisciplinares na Ciência da Informação brasileira

Predatory journals exploit the open access model for profit, often publishing papers with minimal or nonexistent peer review. Predatory publishing stings can identify predatory publishers and increase awareness of the problem, but there are no guidelines for effective stings. We propose that stings should include peer review red flags that would stop the sting from being accepted by reputable journals, be followed by a public sting statement to alert others to the predatory journal identified and predatory publishing in general, and avoid both payment to predatory publishers and risk to the stinger.

Se brindan los resultados de una investigación en torno al comportamiento informativo del personal investigador como usuarios de los sistemas de información geográfica (SIG) del Instituto de Geografía de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Este tipo de usuarios ocupa el primer lugar de uso de estos sistemas en comparación con otros usuarios, a saber, técnicos académicos y estudiantes. Además, cabe mencionar que el objeto de estudio de estos investigadores es el espacio geográfico, donde el mapa constituye una fuente básica de información. El planteamiento del problema para esta investigación parte de las siguientes interrogantes: ¿Cuál es el perfil de los investigadores como usuarios que utilizan los sistemas de información geográfica? ¿Cómo es el comportamiento informativo de los investigadores como usuarios de los sistemas de información geográfica en el Instituto de Geografía de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México? ¿Cuáles son las variables del comportamiento informativo en el uso de los programas informáticos de sistemas de información geográfica? ¿De qué maneras el personal de las bibliotecas puede apoyar al investigador como usuario de los sistemas de información geográfica? Se aplicó una metodología cualitativa, la técnica de grupo focal.

El propósito de este trabajo es presentar la metaevaluación del modelo para evaluar la alfabetización informacional, denominado Evalfin, para determinar su valor y posibilidades de mejora y, a partir de los hallazgos, ofrecer una nueva propuesta gráfica. Se desarrollaron dos etapas de análisis, la primera fue desde la perspectiva de las experiencias de aplicación para analizar los resultados y la segunda desde un enfoque teórico para examinar el diseño del modelo. Los resultados confirman que es un buen modelo por la robustez y solidez de su estructura, pero también revelan la necesidad de mejorarlo para que pueda aplicarse por otros expertos. Se identificó que el principal problema es la interacción de sus componentes porque sus alcances no estaban bien definidos de acuerdo con la estructura del enfoque de sistemas. Esta investigación es importante porque es la primera metaevaluación sobre modelos de evaluación en alfabetización informacional y porque aporta un método de evaluación, un mapa de enfoques de evaluación y una estructura con enfoque de sistemas que puede ser de utilidad para valorar otros modelos similares.

El artículo caracteriza la investigación de los bibliotecólogos chilenos en el periodo 2000-2023, por medio de las publicaciones indexadas en Google Scholar, Scopus y Web of Science. Con enfoque metodológico cuantitativo y alcance exploratorio, se estudiaron 218 artículos desarrollados por 72 bibliotecólogos. Como resultado, se identificó la producción individual, número de citas recibidas, índice h e índice i10, destacando las métricas de tres investigadores. Además, se analizó la distribución temporal de los artículos, que tiende al alza en los últimos cuatro años, motivada por nuevos autores, estudios de posgrado en el extranjero e incentivos para investigadores y académicos. Los artículos fueron publicados en revistas latinoamericanas (61.5 %), europeas (36.2 %) y estadounidenses (2.3 %); el 70.4 % en idioma español. Sus temáticas abarcan: Uso de la información y sociología de la información (17.3 %); Usuarios, lectura y alfabetización (14.2 %); Bibliotecas como colecciones físicas (11.9 %); Ciencias de la salud (11.9 %); Tecnología de la información y tecnología de bibliotecas (11.5 %), entre otras. Las conclusiones señalan la importancia de conocer y difundir la producción científica de los bibliotecólogos chilenos y de fomentar la incorporación de nuevos investigadores, en colaboración con grupos interdisciplinarios.

El artículo presenta los resultados de un ejercicio de análisis relacional de los perfiles de egreso de los programas en archivística y bibliotecología, realizado en el contexto del Proyecto de Innovación Curricular que adelanta la Escuela Interamericana de Bibliotecología de la Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia). La pregunta estuvo orientada a indagar sobre las características de los perfiles de egreso, en términos de afinidades y diferencias, de los programas en archivística y bibliotecología en América Latina y el Caribe entre 2021 y 2022. Esto implicó una revisión crítica de los programas y sus capacidades para incorporar tendencias y necesidades del mercado laboral. El estudio utilizó el método de investigación documental y consultó la información publicada de los sitios web de 45 programas en archivística y 81 programas en bibliotecología. Los resultados dan cuenta del análisis de los programas considerando las categorías identificadas con sus respectivos enfoques. Como conclusiones, se destaca la ratificación del núcleo duro de las formaciones centrado en la gestión documental para la archivística y en la organización y tratamiento de la información para la bibliotecología, y la existencia de diferencias más que sutiles en los perfiles con base en su adscripción a una facultad o escuela específica.

The Mekong River Basin, a lifeline for millions in Southeast Asia, faces a multifaceted challenge: balancing cooperation for sustainable development with the competing geopolitical interests of regional and global powers. This paper explores the Mekong Cooperation Frameworks (MCF), a web of partnerships between the Mekong countries and external actors. This paper delves into the strengths and weaknesses of various MCF frameworks, including the Mekong River Commission (MRC), Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC), Mekong-Japan Cooperation (MJC), Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI), Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC), and Mekong- Republic of Korea Cooperation (Mekong-ROK). Each framework offers unique approaches to infrastructure development, water resource management, and socio-economic progress, but also faces limitations. Beyond existing frameworks, this paper also provides suggestions for the characteristics of successful Mekong-Russia Cooperation (MRUC) within the MCF. The author further analyses the complex geopolitical landscape of the Mekong region. The Mekong countries must navigate the influence of China, a major player in infrastructure projects and water management, while also engaging with the United States, Japan, and other regional powers. Frameworks like the LMI and Friends of the Lower Mekong appear to counter China's dominance, while the MLC raises concerns about transparency in water resource management. This paper proposes some recommendations to ensure the Mekong River remains a symbol of regional cooperation and prosperity. Strengthening the MRC through enhanced regulatory power and fostering greater regional cooperation on water management and environmental protection is crucial. The author also emphasizes leveraging existing ASEAN mechanisms for collective action and advocating for a unified approach to the Mekong. Conclusively, this paper argues that navigating the geopolitical complexities of the Mekong region requires a delicate balancing act. By fostering cooperation within the MCF, strengthening regional institutions, and advocating for a unified approach, the Mekong countries can ensure the Mekong River serves as a bridge for a sustainable and prosperous future.

The article analyzes the role of continuity in the development of Japan's defense sector at the present stage. The study examines the key steps of the Japanese leadership towards strengthening of national security policy against the backdrop of a tendency to gradual transition from the implementation of defensive measures to the formation of a base for offensive operations. The work also emphasizes Washington's serious influence on Tokyo's decision to significantly increase Japan's military power. Particular attention is paid to the current defense course of the Kishida Fumio administration in the context of growing regional threats from China and North Korea. Attempts to pursue a hybrid policy are noted, which involves balancing between promoting measures to strengthen the defense sector and confirming with the anti-war sentiments prevailing among the Japanese population.

The major powers are becoming more interested in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) due to its strategic location. They believe that increasing their presence in the area helps to achieve a number of national goals, particularly enhancing their influence in the Asia-Pacific region as a whole as well as in the countries of mainland Southeast Asia. The article examines the US and China’s approaches to the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) in light of their rivalry. This analysis additionally demonstrates that every power has a unique way for creating integration mechanisms in order to draw the GMS nations under its influence. The paper also focuses on the evaluation of Russia's capabilities. The author points out that given China's and the United States' long-standing presence in the area, Russia, which has a number of interests there, must take the proper measures to establish its place and role in the region.

This paper's purpose is to examine the cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Vietnam, with a focus on its significance for the EAEU in ASEAN. The present state of affairs is considered from the perspective of Vietnam's ties with the EAEU, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. The study is based on the dynamics of Vietnam's trade turnover with each of these countries, including import and export of goods, the structure of their categories, investment volume, and the number of investment projects in each country. The analysis of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the EAEU is another focus of the article, as well as identifying the FTA's function and its possible prospects. An independent attempt is made to define Vietnam's primary benefits and obstacles when compared with other ASEAN members. The paper’s findings can be applied to enhance bilateral relations between Vietnam and EAEU countries.

The article examines the content of “state overseas interests”, which is an important Chinese diplomatic concept, and studies the role those interests play in the country's foreign policy strategy. The work analyzes a relatively wide range of Chinese research literature, conceptual and regulatory documents related to the PRC’s policy to protect its overseas interests. The author concludes that the Chinese leadership adheres to a narrow materialistic interpretation of overseas interests and does not regard their protection as an existential need as compared to the “core interests” of the country. At present, Beijing's pursuit of its overseas interests exhibits protective nature and is aimed at promoting country’s economic development, implementing foreign economic initiatives, improving international image and deepening its relations with other states. This situation is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future, but the emergence of more serious threats to China's overseas interests may bring about new changes in the country's foreign policy strategy.

With the formation of a new technological paradigm and global competition for leadership in the digital space, the attention of experts is shifting towards the growth of political, economic and R&D influence of Eastern countries, which imposes new demands on research methods and tools. The article summarizes the experience of enhancing the academic research process through involving young IT professionals in the Oriental studies in competitive mode. During two weeks of the “Hackathon” contest organized by Yandex Cloud, Napoleon IT and AI Talent Hub in collaboration with the experts from the Institute on Oriental Studies and the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, contestants were challenged to develop a chat bot employing generative models and machine translation to analyze news flows of East Asian countries, primarily China and Japan. A review of the winners’ approaches and solutions proves overall feasibility of the idea and shows that many specific linguistic and engineering tasks that were relevant only recently have already been successfully solved. Therefore, when planning and developing next-generation digital tools, it is necessary to operate at functionally and semantically higher levels of generalization closer to human reasoning.

Japan has a number of specific interests in the Arctic region, which in their current form emerged near the end of the 2000s. Firstly, the authors discuss using the transport capabilities of the Northern Sea Route, which can potentially have a significant positive effect on the development of the Japanese economy not only by diversifying hydrocarbon supply routes, but also as a shorter logistics leg for the export of goods, mainly to European countries. Secondly, the exploitation of the natural resources of the Arctic is of great importance for Japan – whereas it is a resource-deficient country, participation in such projects is always relevant. It is obvious that Japanese interests in the Arctic region will be far from practical implementation without interaction with Russia, despite the serious deterioration of bilateral relations due to Japan’s accession to anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Western countries in connection with the Special military operation in Ukraine. Cooperation with Russia in the Arctic region is still ongoing, mostly within the framework of the joint implementation of the Arctic LNG-2 energy project. However, there are other areas, which will also be discussed in this article.

Goal: The main goal of this paper is to examine and analyse in detail the existing services for people with disabilities at the Library of the University Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy, physical access to the building, access to the funds, content, and services, and on that track recognize possibilities of further improvement of services for blind and visually impaired users of the Library. Methodology: As a sample for this research the Library of the University Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy was chosen to analyse services that the Library offers to blind and visually impaired students, starting from the definition of disability of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and IFLA’s Glossary of Terms and Definitions, followed by IFLA’s Library Services to People with Special Needs Section. This research is based on selected IFLA guidelines Access to libraries for people with disabilities, which starts from the library’s environment, key categories from its physical space to access to materials and services. The paper also discusses the guidelines of the Library for the blind in the information age: Guidelines for the development of functions and services that provide an overview of all significant aspects of library and information services for the blind, from their historical development, legal and strategic frameworks on which such services directly depend, to users, staff, and the development and management of collections and services. Based on the IFLA guidelines, the paper analyses the following key categories: physical access to the Library’s premises, materials, assistive technology, trained staff, websites, and cooperation with other institutions, strategic documents, and evaluation. In addition to international acts, the paper also examines BH key regulations, such as the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination, which explicitly mentions this category of persons. Results: The analysis showed a significant adaptation of services to selected key categories, but also revealed the possibilities of improving these services, which are listed in the Conclusion, and recognized substantial successful segments of serving other users with disabilities, not only blind and visually impaired users. Based on the analysis, in the last chapter of the paper, in the Conclusion, the possibility of applying the framework plan for the development of these services of the Library of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo on other academic libraries in Bosnia and Herzegovina is highlighted, and it points to the importance of cooperation with other institutions that serve blind and visually impaired users, and with whom it is possible to exchange resources for work, assistive technology of different types, but also experiences in working with users with disabilities. Originality: This paper presents selected IFLA guidelines for people with disabilities as a theoretical basis. The development of the themed services of this Library can serve as a model for other academic libraries in the BH environment.

Goal: The goal of this paper is to address the ethics in cataloging and the concept of critical cataloging, as a sub-movement of critical librarianship, as well as to highlight the intersection of ethics with critical in cataloging. It also provides an overview of the most relevant academic papers, articles, and documents in this field, with a special focus on the Cataloging Code of Ethics, the first comprehensive, collaborative, and internationally accepted Code specific to the profession. This code was published in 2021 by the Cataloging Ethics Steering Committee (CESC), which includes representatives from three library associations from three different countries: the American Library Association (ALA), the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), and the Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA-FCAB). Approach/methodology/design: Using content analysis, this paper presents relevant research on ethical cataloging. Through the methods of comparison, analysis, and synthesis, an inductive approach is used to establish a theoretical framework for the subject of the research. Results: The results show that, particularly in the last two decades, this topic has gained significant attention within the cataloging community. Catalogers, aware of their role in building information architecture, have begun to critically reflect on their profession and articulate the need for a document that provides guidelines for ethical organization of metadata. Social relevance: The research advocates that the power to organize knowledge and the power to name, held by catalogers, must be balanced with professional ethics. A critical approach to the profession and the Cataloging Code of Ethics can aid in this process, which could have positive implications for society as a whole. Originality/value: The originality of this paper lies in its critical examination of a cataloging trend that has not yet been discussed in our region.

The goal: The aim of the work is to draw attention to the cartographic material of Ottoman origin as a very exhaustive historical source for the study of the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Approach/methodology/design: In the course of the research, an insight was made into the historiographical production so far in order to determine to what extent cartographic material of Ottoman origin was recognized as a historical source. A comparative analysis of the content offered by the found map from 1853 compared to earlier Ottoman maps showing the territory of today’s Bosnia and Herzegovina and its surroundings was performed. The paper presents the basic characteristics and content of the mentioned map and tried to figure out the reasons and context of its creation. The results: In principle, the found cartographic material provides prerequisites for a more detailed approach to the study of the general history of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on the mentioned sources. The map analyzed here provides new data on the administrative arrangement of the Bosnian eyalet in the middle of the 19th century, the borders of the mentioned area, the location of deposits of mineral resources, and the like. Restrictions: Since only one map from the entire corpus of maps of Ottoman origin found so far, on which the territory of today’s Bosnia and Herzegovina is represented, was analyzed, the final results of the research will be presented only after processing the entire corpus. Practical application: The practical application of this research is reflected in the fact that the new data offered by the map will be able to be incorporated into the scientific material not only of specialized literature but also of school textbooks. In addition, information on potential deposits of various ores can represent a guideline in the specified branch of industry. Originality/value: The presentation of cartographic material of Ottoman origin of this area is a novelty because the content of the mentioned maps as well as the notes it offers are written in Arabic script in the Ottoman Turkish language, which makes it a complex material for research. With this work, he provides the scientific, professional and general public with some of the useful material contained in the maps.

Goal: To present grammatical works in Arabic, Turkish, and Persian that were created, copied, inherited, and used as compulsory textbook literature in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the 16th to the 19th centuries. For this purpose, research was conducted in the manuscript collections of public libraries, archives, and institutes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Approach/methodology: Using the method of analysis and comparison of data collected by direct inspection of manuscript works, with the use of references and information about manuscripts contained in the catalogs of the collections, the selection of materials and the selection of reference works for analysis were carried out. Results: Show and valorize the modalities and scope of production and reception of manuscript grammatical works and their practical use in given contexts. We will pay special attention to the grammars written by Bosniak authors in oriental languages and their contribution to the development of the grammatical tradition in Bosnia. Originality/value: Bearing in mind the documentary character of the manuscripts as first-class historical sources, the research, analysis, and conclusions reached will not only represent a contribution to the study of linguistic history in Bosnia but also provide an incentive for further research in that direction.

Goal: The paper will present the library collection of the Babusaade Ahmed Agha based on one of the three existing waqfiyas of this benefactor, preserved in the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul (TS.MA.d. 6927). The waqfiya describes the establishment of a madrasa and its accompanying library in Mostar in the mid-17th century. The work will also offer a comparison of this collection with the Gazi Husrev-beg Library collection in Sarajevo, as the majority of the preserved titles from the mentioned collection can be found in this central heritage institution. Approach/Methodology: Using the identification method, we determined the exact titles and authors of the endowed books and manuscripts, for which numerous lexicographical dictionaries and manuscript catalogs were consulted. The classification of works by subject areas was based on the Flügel and Ahlwardt models. Regarding the presence of works from the original collection established by the Babusaade Ahmed Agha, the main research base was the Gazi Husrev-beg Library collection in Sarajevo, which provided direct access to works from the mentioned collection, as well as published catalogs of manuscripts in Oriental languages from this institution. Results: The paper highlights data related to the titles and authors of works from the library collection that was part of this educational institution. Based on this information, insight was provided into the thematic and content diversity of the mentioned library. Particularly interesting is the fact that this waqfiya contains the oldest mention of a librarian (1653) in Mostar, along with his duties and responsibilities regarding the preservation of the manuscript collection. In addition to this, the paper discusses the current state of the collection, aiming to determine the extent of preservation of the manuscript holdings from this 17th-century Mostar library. Originality/Value: In scientific and expert circles, it was known that there was a waqf established by the Babusaade Ahmed Agha, but it was not widely known what he left behind as a legacy for his fellow citizens in Mostar. This paper specifically discusses his legacy in Mostar based on primary sources, as well as the provisions he established to specify how this waqf would function. The waqf of Ahmed Agha was very important for the cultural life of Mostar in the second half of the 17th century.

Goal: Legal deposit is a complex system of multiple benefits, and by mapping adapted legal deposit regulations from 1945 to 1995 in Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the aim of this research is to look at the development of the legal deposit in the context of redefining its coverage and the legislatively defined goals of the legal deposit. Approach/methodology/design: By researching the previous literature and reviewing official publications, that is examining the titles and full texts of published regulations in the printed editions of official publications, the relevant regulations related to the legal deposit in Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, federal and republican decrees, decisions, orders, laws for legal deposit were mapped. Results: The analysis of the mapped sixteen regulations, indicates the expansion of legal deposit coverage on a continuous basis, and reveals changes in the perception of the legal deposit values. Legal deposit was initially reduced in the regulations to its function of building library collections, which, however, must be viewed critically in the context of censorship background, while newer regulations respect its values in terms of building of national bibliographies, preservation and protection of cultural heritage, and more important, use of materials that have the designation of public good. Originality/value: This research thematizes the development of the legal deposit system in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 1945 to 1995, by gathering selected regulations related to legal deposit, adopted in this time period, for the first time in one place, as a basis for further research of this institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Goal: The main objective of this paper is to investigate, analyse and present how the Uniri Digital Library is organised. Methodology: The paper gives an overview of important activities which the University of Rijeka Library has in cooperation with the University of Rijeka and the University constituents2 taken to increase the number of objects stored and published in the institutional repositories. Results: The paper analyses digital objects stored and published in the Uniri Digital Library by the type of papers and openness. The analysis has identified insufficient openness of objects in spite of legal regulations and storage obligations on the national and institutional levels. Data suggests that it is necessary to establish new evaluation and reward system in implementing the practices of open science, but also to continuously perform education and raise awareness about the importance of open scientific information. Originality: The paper presents the theoretical concept and the legal framework for the establishment of the Uniri Digital Library. Until the adoption of the Digital Library Standard, the Uniri Digital Library was called University of Rijeka3 Repository.

Objective: This paper aims to explore the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in academic libraries in Croatia and its potential impact on library services. It seeks to present the challenges and opportunities in AI implementation and the factors that may influence its adoption. Methodology: To research the application of AI in academic libraries, a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques, was employed. Specifically, an online survey consisting of 21 open- and closed-ended questions was conducted. The survey targeted academic libraries in Croatia to gather comprehensive data on the current state of AI implementation. Results: The research showed a low response rate to the survey, with only 22%, as AI implementation in Croatian academic libraries is still in its early stages. The results revealed that barriers such as a lack of funding, expertise, and institutional support hinder wider adoption, along with concerns about AI’s impact on critical thinking and human roles. The lack of training and strategic planning around AI oversight may have contributed to the low response rate, complicating the drawing of firm conclusions. However, the survey did indicate the potential for AI use in the surveyed higher education libraries, as they recognise its possible benefits in work processes and user experiences. Originality: This study is among the first to explore the current state and future implications of AI adoption in academic libraries in Croatia. It provides insights into the challenges and opportunities of AI implementation and its potential impact on library services in the country.

Goal: Intangible cultural heritage represents “living” culture transmitted from previous to future generations, making it vital to preserve the cultural identity of a people. In this regard, and considering that no comparative analysis of metadata standards for the processing of intangible cultural heritage in the digital environment has been carried out, this work aims to offer metadata standards that will apply to the processing of this type of heritage. Methodology: The research was performed by analyzing Dublin Core, CCO, VRA Core, CDWA, and MODS metadata standards. Along with the assessment of their quality using a descriptive method, and their comparative analysis, the applicability of selected metadata standards for the processing of intangible cultural heritage was examined on the example of the Jumps from the Old Bridge in Mostar, which represent the intangible cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Results: The research results through the research questions of the work show that of the selected metadata standards, Dublin Core and MODS can be used for the processing of intangible cultural heritage, which illustrates an example of metadata processing with metadata chosen standards. Discussion: The application of Dublin Core and MODS metadata standards for the processing of intangible cultural heritage is confirmed by examples of good practice in cultural institutions in Europe and the world. Both metadata standards, through the description of the digital object described by a set of descriptive elements, enable better organization and management of the digital object online. Besides being used to describe various objects and being widely acceptable, the advantages of these standards compared to other standards are that they contain elements that offer a detailed description of an object of intangible cultural heritage expressed in XML syntax. Also, the simplicity of implementation and high interoperability of both standards facilitate meta-search over the global network and access to the necessary information in the digital environment. Originality: This research represents the first research of its kind that provides a comparative analysis of selected metadata standards for the processing of intangible cultural heritage. The importance of the existence of metadata standards is reflected in the key role in the contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage, which especially refers to the intangible cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina for future generations and the promotion of its importance in a wider social and cultural context.

Goal: The goal of this research is to explore the patterns related to authorship and collaboration of authors of the papers published in the journal Bosniaca: Journal of National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 1996 to 2023. Approach/Methodology: During the selection and preparation of the corpus for analysis, bibliographic identifiers of published papers were analysed, and Subramanyam K. formula was used for calculation of the degree of collaboration. A total of 328 papers and 392 authors by occurrence were analyzed (227 unique authors). Results: Identification data of published papers in the period from 1996 to 2023 are gradually stabilizing, and standardization of bibliographic data is accompanied by the strengthening of the international network of authors, and the indexing of the Journal in bibliographic and citation databases. The number of single-authored papers published in the Journal is 85.98%, while the degree of collaboration in Bosniaca from 1996 to 2023 is 0.14, with the number of co-authored papers increasing from 2019. Of those analyzed, the largest number of unique authors comes from Bosnia and Herzegovina (132), followed by the countries of the region (69), and when it comes to the gender structure of unique authors, women are far more represented (159 authors, 70.04%), of which the majority, 88 female authors, also come from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Limitations: This research does not have firm criteria for selecting papers for analysis, also, nonstandardized listing of identification data of paper published in the first issues of the Journal, and manual entry of collected data can affect the research results and possible errors. Originality/value: So far in Bosnia and Herzegovina no bibliometric analysis of Bosnian and Herzegovinian journals in the field of library and information sciences have been conducted. As a contribution to such analysis, this paper presents the first bibliometric analysis of journal Bosniaca: Journal of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Background: The progress of social sciences in Indonesia is evident through the surge in research activities, as showcased by publications in globally respected journals. A study by Putera et al. points out that, for the first time between 2002 and 2004, Indonesian authors ranked social sciences among the top five fields with international publications. Since the 1998 reform era, the social sciences have encountered exciting opportunities and significant challenges. These challenges underscore the urgent need for further development. Significant efforts are needed to enhance the presence and impact of Indonesian social science thought globally.Objectives: To identify hotspots and trends in research from Indonesia in social sciences from 1999 to 2023 and also to identify dominant research clusters, their alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and prevalent methodologies to serve as a guide to future research and policymaking.Methods: We employed bibliometric analysis and VOSviewer visualization to examine articles by Indonesian authors in the Scopus database, to group the articles into clusters based on their research focus, and to examine their alignment with various SDGs.Results: We identified five dominant research clusters: (1) climate change and environmental governance, (2) Sunda Isles and archaeological evidence, (3) urban development, (4) rural development and economic impact, and (5) empowerment and food security. Each cluster had a specific focus and relevance to different SDGs. The most cited articles predominantly used qualitative methods – particularly narrative research – whereas methods such as action research, ethnography, grounded theory, and phenomenology were underrepresented.Conclusion: Our findings emphasize the need for continued support and diversification of research methodologies to enhance the impact of social science research in Indonesia. Future research could explore underrepresented methodologies to provide a more holistic understanding of social phenomena.

With the growth of open educational resources (OERs), academic libraries have an opportunity to play a vital role in facilitating access, use, and development of OERs. This study explored the management practices of OER initiatives in Nigerian public university libraries. A sequential mixed method was adopted for this study using the sequential explanatory strategy. Quantitative method was used to gather data to inform the study population for the qualitative part of the study. The quantitative data was analysed descriptively, while the qualitative data was analysed thematically; both data were integrated into the discussion of findings to provide robustness and complementarity. The study revealed variability across institutions in the completeness of OER projects. It also found key drivers and challenges of integrating OERs in these institutions. While this study provided recommendations based on the findings, it also made suggestions for librarians seeking to expand their role in OER adoption through strategic leadership, faculty partnerships, and advocacy. The findings of this research contribute to the on-going discourse on OER adoption, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities facing academic libraries in sustaining OER initiatives.

This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the scientific literature about artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and job displacement from 1984 to 2024. Utilizing the Scopus database, 225 relevant documents were retrieved and analysed using R Studio and VOSviewer. The analysis reveals significant trends in publication growth, citation metrics, and collaborative networks among researchers and institutions. Notable findings indicate a marked increase in research output during key technological advancements, highlighting the evolving discourse surrounding the implications of AI and automation on the workforce. This study identifies prevailing themes within the literature through keyword analysis and explores the interconnectedness of research contributions across various domains. This bibliometric review aims to provide a foundational understanding of the current landscape and future directions in studying AI, automation, and job displacement.

Volume 10 of the series La Biblioteca di Francesco Maria II Della Rovere contains the reconstruction bibliographical reconstruction of a portion of the Libraria durantina that belonged to the last Duke of Urbino. The precious collection was semantically organised into seventy shelves and became in 1667 the founding nucleus of the Biblioteca Universitaria Alessandrina in Rome by will of Pope Alexander VII. The Alessandrina also holds the manuscript 50, dating from the first half of the 17th century, which contains the catalogue of the roveresca collection arranged alphabetically by authors and titles. Through transcription of the codex, it was possible to search for the editions in modern catalogues and, subsequently, to identify the specimens belonging to the Duke kept in the Biblioteca Alessandrina, easily recognisable thanks to the possession note ‘VR’ written in ink on the title pages. Enriched with a wealth of photographs, Volume 10 is devoted to seven of the above-mentioned seventy scans and has led to the identification of more than 1,500 editions pertaining to the classes of Ius Canonicum, Ius Civile, Ethica, Oeconomica, Politica, De principatu, De re aulica, Moralia varia, Sententiae, Proverbia, Rhetorica, Poetica, Historica, De re Militari Architectura et Mechanicis. The legal sections have been analysed in the essay that opens the volume, while with this short contribution we would like to focus on some subsections focusing on the education of children and women, praise and criticism of women, and paremiographic literature.

Of the Libraia impressa that Francesco Maria II della Rovere collected and organised between the end of the 16th century and the first thirty years of the 17th century in Casteldurante - a Bibliotheca universalis of imperishable fame, transferred in 1667 at the behest of Pope Alexander VII to the newly established Biblioteca Alessandrina - a manuscript inventory still exists. It is a unique document (today B.U.A., Ms. 50) also in terms of complexity and care in its editing, divided into three parts: a systematic topographical catalogue, a catalogue by authors and works - in which the authors are listed in alphabetical order under their proper names - and a list of headwords from the surname to the name of the authors themselves. Starting with an analysis of the organisation of the sub-scansia De architectura militari (part of Scansia 42 De re militari, Architectura et Mechanicis) and comparing it with the copies that belonged to the duke that are now in the Biblioteca Alessandrina, Daniela Fugaro tackled some of the library-economic problems related to the constitution and management of the Durantine collection not only in the specific context of the Duchy of Urbino, but also after its devolution to the Holy See. The choice of the topic of fortifications and military architecture was dictated by the consideration that Federico da Montefeltro, Francesco Maria I and Francesco Maria II considered the art of war an essential tool for asserting their autonomy vis-à-vis the Papacy, to which, however, they were closely linked. The virtuous practice of arms also remained for the last della Rovere family a conditio sine qua non of good governance. To achieve satisfactory results, Francis Mary II took as his models both Francis Mary I, the valiant soldier and founder of the dynasty, and Federico da Montefeltro, the condottiere who had brought the Duchy of Urbino to its first splendour.

This contribution considers a selection of volumes from the Durantine book collection that belonged to Francesco Maria II Della Rovere. The theme of the research is the 10 shelves dedicated to ‘history’ where once there were more than 1700 books that represented about 1/10 of the more than 13,000 of the original library divided into 12 subject groups. The selection of books covered by the descriptions and thoughts proposed here, identified thanks to the fifth volume dedicated to the Storia, edited by Simona De Gese and Fiammetta Sabba, of the work conceived by Alfredo Serrai and edited by Fiammetta Sabba on the Biblioteca di Francesco Maria II Della Rovere, was intended to connect the personal interests of Francesco Maria II with the national and international political events that involved the Duchy of Urbino in a period of great changes that were also reflected in the choice of books for the libraria. In fact, sifting through the books that the duke purchased with the advice of the Jesuit Paolo Beni, one discovers editorial novelties that reflect the tastes of an era as well as the ambitions of the duke, who was engaged in the years of the establishment of this modern printed library in a policy of relaunching his dynasty, which he felt he had to anchor more firmly to the origins of the prestige of the house and, therefore, to the cultural operations elaborated at the time of Federico Montefeltro, as well as the military ones carried out by Francesco Maria I.

The Collezione di pubblicazioni coloniali italiane, the cartographic collection and the photographic collection of the Central Directorate of Colonial Affairs (Direzione Centrale degli Affari Coloniali) of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs were assembled in early 1911 by a group of colonial officers and scholars for the Turin International Exhibition (Esposizione Internazionale di Torino), which took place between 29th April and 19th November, 1911. The work was carried out with the aim of representing what Italy could produce at an institutional level in the field of ‘colonial culture’, and to demonstrate what Italian colonial institutions could do in order to generate interest and propaganda. In December 1911, the aforementioned group was framed in a new Research Office (Ufficio Studi). While the ‘Esposizione’ was still open, on 29 September, the Italo-Turkish War began, ending the following year, on 18 October. A month later, on 20 November 1912, the Ministry of Colonies (Ministero delle Colonie) was born. After a brief transition period, the Research Office moved to the new Ministry and remained active for almost half a century: documents tell us that it worked until a few years after the closure of the Ministry of Italian Africa (Ministero dell’Africa Italiana, 1953) within the Office for the Affairs of the Suppressed Ministry of Italian Africa of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (Ufficio per gli Affari del Soppresso Ministero dell’Africa italiana della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, 1954-55). Together with the Research Office, the three collections - which currently stand among the most important bibliographic, cartographic and photographic sources concerning Africa and the Italian colonies in Italy - were transferred. This work follows in detail the events that led to the formation of these collections and lists the material that is still available at the “IsIAO Library” - African and Oriental Collections of the National Central Library of Rome (“Biblioteca IsIAO” - Sala delle Collezioni Africane e Orientali della Biblioteca nazionale centrale di Roma).

After a brief introduction outlining the object of the research – the Grande Galleria, inaugurated in 1608 at the behest of Duke Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy – and a concise review of the most recent secondary literature on the subject, the contribution focuses on the sources useful for its reconstruction, which provide information about its physical and conceptual space. The reorganization of the Library in the 18th century, along with subsequent dispersions, led to the loss of traces of the bibliographic units once housed within the Grande Galleria. The digital environment and technological innovations may help reconstruct this complex and multifaceted artefact. The recreated space thus becomes not only a virtual environment but also a symbolic and conceptual context, paving the way for new studies and reflections.

The paper presents some reflections inspired by Editoria e storici dell’arte nell’Italia del secondo dopoguerra, edited by Paolo Soddu and Franca Varallo (Viella, 2024). The chapters of this book survey some episodes and figures of the process that led historiographic-artistic studies to be assimilated with cultural publishing, thus gaining a wider and more diversified audience than experts and amateurs of the “beautiful book”. At the same time, they focus on the actors (first and foremost the “intellectual-publishers” and the publishing houses), circuits, modes, and practices of the Italian cultural system around and through the lens of historiographic-artistic and figurative art-related publishing production, including books and magazines. Therefore, by placing art and art history within the framework of cultural life in the second half of the 20th century, this volume allows us to grasp aspects that contribute to enriching our knowledge.

After a reconstruction of the origins and nature of the library of Francesco II Maria della Rovere, the author reflects on the interest and value that such a collection still holds today, especially in light of its completeness and documentary richness.
