In the Mediterranean region, particularly in Antalya, southern Türkiye, rising forest fire risks due to climate change threaten ecosystems, property, and lives. Reduced soil moisture during the growing season is a key factor increasing fire risk by stressing plants and lowering fuel moisture content. This study assessed soil moisture and fuel moisture content (FMC) in ten fires (2019–2021) affecting over 50 hectares. The Fire Weather Index (FWI) and its components (FFMC, DMC, DC) were calculated using data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, EFFIS (8 km), and ERA5 (≈28 km) satellite sources. Relationships between FMCs, satellite-based soil moisture datasets (SMAP, SMOS), and land surface temperature (LST) data (MODIS, Landsat 8) were analyzed. Strong correlations were found between FWI codes and satellite soil moisture, particularly with SMAP. Positive correlations were observed between LST and FWIs, while negative correlations were evident with soil moisture. Statistical models integrating in situ soil moisture and EFFIS FWI (R: −0.86, −0.84, −0.83 for FFMC, DMC, DC) predicted soil moisture levels during extended fire events effectively, with model accuracy assessed through RMSE (0.60–3.64%). The SMAP surface (0–5 cm) dataset yielded a lower RMSE of 0.60–2.08%, aligning with its higher correlation. This study underlines the critical role of soil moisture in comprehensive fire risk assessments and highlights the necessity of incorporating modeled soil moisture data in fire management strategies, particularly in regions lacking comprehensive in situ monitoring. Objectives: This study aimed to examine factors associated with strabismus in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and the relationship between strabismus and macular ectopia. Materials and Methods: Patients with ROP were divided into three groups: Group 1, patients with spontaneous regression (n=45); Group 2, patients who received laser treatment (n=70); and Group 3, patients who underwent surgical treatment (n=91). Rates of anisometropia, amblyopia, nystagmus, macular ectopia, and retinal pathologies were evaluated and their impacts on strabismus development were determined. Disc-to-fovea distance (DFD) was measured from color fundus photographs and the correlation of macular ectopia with severity of strabismus was evaluated. Results: A total of 206 patients were included. Rates of anisometropia, amblyopia, nystagmus, macular ectopia, retinal pathologies causing vision loss, and strabismus were higher in Group 3 (p=0.0001) and correlated with higher stages of ROP (p=0.0001). Macular ectopia (p=0.005), retinal pathologies (p=0.005), and amblyopia (p=0.012) had the strongest impact on strabismus development in ROP patients. DFD and strabismus severity were not significantly correlated (p=0.364). Mean visual acuity (VA) was significantly higher in orthophoric patients compared to those with esotropia and exotropia (p=0.027). Esotropic patients had lower VA compared to patients with exotropia, but this finding was not statistically significant (p=0.729). Conclusion: Presence of macular ectopia, retinal pathologies, and amblyopia were the most strongly correlated risk factors for strabismus development in ROP patients. DFD was not associated with severity of strabismus. Exotropia was mostly related to higher DFD and a possible relationship between esotropia and lower VA was observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In recent years, there has been an increase in the use of anti-TNF-α therapies in the treatment of rheumatological diseases. Aim: The aim of this study was to develop a subcutaneous anti- TNF-α treatment adherence scale and investigate and confirm the reliability and validity of this new instrument. This methodological study was performed in an university hospitals between April 2018 and March 2019. The sample of the study (n:165) consisted of individuals who were completed the first month of SC anti TNF-α treatment. The research data were collected by using an individual introduction form and the newly developed Anti TNF-α Treatment Adherence Scale. In the analysis of the data, the test-retest reliability analysis, validity analysis, factor analysis, structural equation model and internal consistency analysis were used. Results: The item-total test correlation values were determined to be between 0.33 and 0.71. In the fit index calculations, it was found that the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation was 0.10, Goodness of Fit Index was 0.999, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index was 0.998, Comparative Fit Index was 0.926; and χ² was 2.670 (p<0.001). Cronbach α coefficient was calculated as 0.690 for factor 1, 0.765 for factor 2, 0.628 for factor 3 and 0.671 for the overall scale. Conclusion: In this study, Anti TNF-α Treatment Adherence Scale was determined that it is a valid and reliable scale. It is the first assessment tool that can be used in the evaluation of drug adherence in SC Anti-TNF-α treatment performed by patients / their relatives due to rheumatologic and all inflammatory diseases. This study is the translation of the treatise titled al-Tadhīn li al-Tazyīn alā wajh al-tabyīn of Ali al-Qārī al-Harawī (d. 1014/1605), one of the Hanafī scholars. The issue of raising the index finger in the tahiyyāt is examined in the treatise. Before he wrote al-Tadhīn, Ali al-Qārī wrote another treatise on the same subject called Tazyīn al-ibāra li tahsīn alishāra, and in that treatise he presented his evidences and the opinions of the majority of scholars in a comprehensive manner on the subject of raising the index fingers while reciting tahiyyāt, and criticized those who say that there is no raising the index finger in tahiyyāt. He heavily criticized the Hanafi jurist Lutfullāh al-Kaydānī (d. 750/1349), who is the author of Fiqh al-Kaydānī, and one of opponents who held the extreme point of view. Upon these criticisms, Ali al-Qārī stated that he received a letter from one of the leading scholars of his time, without mentioning his name, who read the aforementioned al-Tazyīn which raised certain questions in his mind. As a response to this letter, Ali al-Qārī wrote his treatise titled al-Tadhīn li al-Tazyīn alā wajh al-tabyīn. In conclusion, in his treatise titled al-Tadhīn, after listing the views of the Hanafis who were against raising the index finger in tahiyyāt Ali al-Qārī discussed the concepts of “absolute mujtahid”, “mujtahid in the madhhab”, “mujtahid in issues” and “makruh” one of the defining rules in Islamic jurisprudence and finally severely criticized al-Kaydānī. Persistent fetal vasculature (PFV) syndrome is characterized by abnormal regression of the fetal hyaloid system and may occur in various forms. In this report, two atypical cases associated with posterior capsular defect and ectopic lens material located along Cloquet's canal are discussed. Ultrasonography of these patients presenting with bilateral total cataracts revealed a hyaloidal stalk extending from the optic nerve head to the retrolental area. During lensectomy, it was observed that lens particles were moving anteriorly from the central mid-vitreous to the aspiration port and that the posterior capsule was developmentally defective. There was no pathological vascular remnant, rather the lens material partially filled Cloquet's canal through the opening in the posterior capsule and created a pseudo-stalk appearance on the preoperative ultrasonography. We aim to discuss possible mechanisms underlying these cases, which may help to improve our understanding of the PFV spectrum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the e?ect of strabismus surgery on subfoveal choroidal thickness (CT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Measurements of subfoveal CT in patients who underwent strabismus surgery were obtained by enhanced depth imaging optic coherence tomography (EDI-OCT). Patients were grouped as those who had had one rectus muscle surgery (superior; inferior; medial or lateral; or resection or recession) (Group 1) and those who had had inferior oblique muscle surgery (myectomy) (Group 2). The CT in patients was measured preoperatively and at one day and one week postoperatively. RESULTS: Included in the study were 41 eyes of 41 patients. It was found that the preoperative, first day postoperative, and first week postoperative mean subfoveal CTs in Group 1 were 390.57±89.54 µm, 415.23±91.77 µm, and 394.8±90.97 µm, respectively. The preoperative and first-day postoperative comparison revealed an increase in CT (p=0.002). However, when the first day postoperative and first-week postoperative measurements were compared, a statistically significant decrease was found (p=0.007). In Group 2, the preoperative, first day postoperative, and first week postoperative mean subfoveal CTs were 347.75±83.58 µm, 332.75±84.95 µm, and 332±79.15 µm, respectively. The preoperative and first-day postoperative comparison showed a decrease in CT that was not statistically significant (p=0.532). CONCLUSIONS: Rectus muscle surgery causes an increase in subfoveal CT, which is possibly caused by the altered choroidal microcirculation mechanical traction during surgery and by postoperative in?ammation. We did not see a similar increase in Group 2; this may be due to the relaxation of the inferior oblique muscle’s traction in the macular region and a relatively low level of postoperative in?ammation.

- Abstract
Anahtar kelimeler: Premature Retinopatisi, şaşılık, makuler ektopi The aim of this study is to examine associated factors of strabismus in patients with retinopathy of prematurity, and relationship between strabismus and macular ectopia. The study was carried on in Pediatric Ophtalmology and Strabismus, and Retina Clinics of Department of Ophtalmology in Gazi University School of Medicine and medical records of the patients who had been followed up due to rethinopathy of prematurity (ROP) between June 2002 and March 2018 were evaluated retrospectively. There were 206 patients included in the study. Patients were divided into three groups as; Group 1: patients with spontan regression (n:45), Group 2: patients who received laser treatment (n:70) and Group 3: patients who had undergone surgical treatment (n:91) and the correlation of the treatment modalities with the long term complications of ROP was examined. Associated factors of strabismus and the relationship between disc-fovea distance and strabismus were also evaluated.Long term complications of ROP (myopia, vision deficity, anisometropia, ambliopia, aphakia, nystagmus, macular ectopia and retinal pathologies) were found to be significantly higher in severe ROP patients. Anisometropia, ambliopia, aphakia, nystagmus, macular ectopia and retinal pathologies were significantly higher in patients with strabismus compared to ortophoric patients and were considered as predisposing factors for strabismus development in ROP patients. Ambliopia, macular ectopia and retinal pathologies were found to be highly correlated with strabismus in regression analysis. Despite the exact relation between macular ectopy and strabismus, there was no significant correlation found between disc-fovea distance and the severity of strabismus (p=0,364).Key words: rethinopathy of prematurity, strabismus, macular ectopy

Within the scope of the thesis study, interpolation methods used for evaluating spatially varying data and for presenting the information obtained from the data via maps were investigated. A method for generating an open source web based interpolation map for the most commonly used interpolation methods is presented. Today, many commercial Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software are used in the production of interpolation maps. However, this situation causes the users to pay a large amount of money or use cracked programs. Although there are open source softwares, which can create interpolation maps, users are faced with the situation of installing a program to generate an interpolation map. In addition, users need to have experiment on these programs. However, with the web-based mapping method that we recommend, users will be able to evaluate and analyze their location based data which is based on location via internet without the need for program usage information or setup, from anywhere in the world, with just an internet connection and a web browser. It will also be open to other people to develop since it is an open source tool and is accessible via the internet. A tool is developed that users can produce their own isarithmic map entering their data over the Internet. 64

Objective: Migraine is one of the most common debilitating diseases characterized by pulsating headaches continued from a few hours to several days, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. There have been claims of a relationship between migraine headaches and refractive errors and binocular vision anomalies. In this study, we aimed to evaluate optometric and ortoptic findings in patients with migraine headache and to compare with healthy subjects. Methods: This study includes 58 patients with migraine and 50 healthy subjects. Asthenopic symptoms, fotofobia, and visual symptoms of the patients were noted. Detailed ophthalmological examinations were performed containing spherical refractive error, astigmatic refractive error, spherical equivalent (SE), best-corrected visual acuity, slit lamp biomicroscopy, fundus examination. Also, ortoptic examination was performed icluding ocular motility, fusional reserves, and stereopis measurements. Results: Myopia and astigmatism were more frequent in migraine patients and near fusional convergence amlitudes were lower when compared with the control subjects (p=0.020, p=0.019, p=0.00 respectively). Conclusion: This study suggests that refractive errors and insufficiency of fusional mechanisms may make a negative contribution to migraine headache. Therefore, people who experience migraine headaches should have opthalmological examinations regularly to ensure that their refractive errors and ortoptic abnormalities are appropriately managed. We develop a theory in which there are couplings amongst Dirac spinor, dilaton and non-Riemannian gravity and explore the nature of connection induced dilaton couplings to gravity and Dirac spinor, when the theory is reformulated in terms ofthe Levi-Civita connection. After presenting some exact solutions without spinors, we investigate the minimal spinor couplings to the model and in conclusion we cannot find any nontrivial dilaton couplings to spinor. 37

Aim: To assess the clinical and genetic characteristics of children diagnosed with retinoblastoma (RB) at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine's Department of Pediatric Oncology., Methods: All cases diagnosed with RB and received treatment and follow-up in the Ophthalmology and Pediatric Oncology Department, October 2016 to May 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. The RB1 gene was analyzed by next-generation sequencing (NGS) technique in DNAs obtained from peripheral blood samples of the patients., Results: This study included 53 cases with 67 RB-affected eyes during the study period. The mean age was 24.6 (median: 18.5, range: 3-151)mo. There were 15 (22.3%) Group D eyes and 39 (58.2%) Group E eyes. The RB1 gene was sequenced by the NGS method in 19 patients. Heterozygous RB1:NM_000321.3: c.54_76del (p.Glu19AlafsTer4) variant was detected in a 15-month-old female with bilateral RB. Heterozygous RB1:NM_000321.3: c.1814+3A>T variant was detected in a 5.5-month-old male with bilateral RB. The intronic RB1:NM_000321.3: c.1332+4A>G variant was detected in patient 14, a 13-month-old male with unilateral RB. The RB1:NM_000321.3: c.575_576del (p.Lys192SerfsTer10) variant was found in an 18-month-old female with an allele frequency of 37%. These variants have not been reported in the literature and mutation databases., Conclusion: Four novel variants are described and one of them is found in two different patients. This data is crucial for assessing prognosis. It serves as a guide for estimating the long-term risk of secondary malignancy as well as the short-term risk of developing additional malignancies in the same eye and the other eye., (International Journal of Ophthalmology Press.)

- Abstract
Background/aim: To compare the clinical use, image quality and viewing angle of a commonly used contact wide angle viewing (WAV) system (Advanced Visual Instruments (AVI) Panoramic Imaging Systems, NY, USA) with a commonly used noncontact WAV system (Leica RUV800, Leica Microsystems, Switzerland)., Materials and Methods: Images of 42 consecutively operated eyes were obtained with both systems at the same surgical stages and were compared for image quality using the Imatest Master 4.5.13 (Imatest LLC, Boulder, USA) software. The viewing angles of the images were calculated using the optic disc sizes measured from the OCT and infrared fundus images. The 68-degree AVI lens was compared with the 90-dioptre (D) Leica RUV800 lens, while the 130-degree AVI lens was compared with the 132-D Leica RUV800 lens. The surgical assistants were asked to grade the difficulty of holding the lens in place from 1 to 10, 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most difficult., Results: The contact system provided wider viewing angles with higher quality compared to the noncontact system both under fluid and air media. The difference was clinically significant in eyes with impaired corneal clarity, very high myopia, or small pupil. The difficulty of holding the lens in place ranged from 4 to 7, and decreased gradually with practice., Conclusions: Both WAV systems provided high image quality and adequate viewing angles in most cases. However, the contact system appeared to provide a superior image quality and/or a wider viewing angle in more challenging situations. The difficulty of holding the contact lens in place was found to be moderate., Competing Interests: The authors report no conflict of interest, or any financial interest in any of the materials and methods used or described, (This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.)
