Abstract

In this study, we present geometrical and kinematical analysis of Moreton wave observed in 2012 June 3rd and July 6th, recorded in H-$\alpha$ images of Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG) archive. These large-scale waves exhibit different features compared to each other. The observed wave of June 3rd has angular span of about $70^{\circ}$ with a diffuse wave front associated to NOAA active region 11496. It was found that the speed of the wave that started propagating at 17.53 UT is about $931\pm80$ km/s. The broadness nature of this Moreton wave can be interpreted as the vertical extension of the wave over the chromosphere. On the other hand, the wave of July 6th may be associated to X1.1 class flare that occurred at 23.01 UT around the 11515 active region. From the kinematical analysis, the wave propagated with the initial velocity of about $994\pm70$ km/s which is in agreement with coronal shock velocity derived from type II radio burst observation, $v\sim1100$ km/s. 2. Light Pollution Observations in Indonesia

Abstract

Light pollution is a growing concern in the world. It affects many walk of lives, including human health, the degradation of nocturnal animal habitat, and the inability of the astronomers to observe dimmer objects. We in Space Science Center of LAPAN (Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space) try to mitigate this through a coordinated observation of light pollution using Sky Quality Meter equipments which are located in several LAPAN’s stations [Agam (West Sumatra), Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Sumedang (West Java), Garut (West Java), Pasuruan (East Java), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), and Biak (Papua)]. The observations has been conducted since 2018 in stationary and moving modes, and the results are then sent to a central database which is located in Space Science Center in Bandung (West Java). The results showed that there are some variations of light pollution across Indonesia. In this respect most of the stations have moderate pollution as can be seen from the values of Biak, Agam, Sumedang, and Pontianak (20.0, 19.5, 19.6, and 17.7 mpsas respectively). On the other hand, the stations which are located near or in cities have high light pollution (Bandung and Pasuruan with 17.1 and 18.0 mpsas, respectively). A particular station (Garut) has low light pollution (20.6 mpsas). The data of these observations are presented in a website to be accessed by interested parties.

Abstract

In this paper, results of moving campaigns of night sky brightness measurement over Greater Bandung area are reported as a part of the first step to mitigate the level of light pollution in the area and its multidimensional impact. Though the campaigns were not commenced in ideal condition in terms of cloud cover and moon light contamination, some statistical treatment and moonlight correction were performed to improve the quality of the data. The obtained value of sky brightness range from ~17 mpsas at downtown region to ~20 mpsas at Haurgombong, Sumedang which is more than 30 km away from the city center. It is in agreement with monthslength stationary measurements of sky brightness over Bandung, Lembang, and Sumedang. R-square (R^2) between this in-situ measurement and the average nighttime radiance map from Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite Day/Night Band (VIIRS-DNB) was found such that empirical relation between the two variables can be utilized to create the map of sky brightness over Greater Bandung area. From this map, it was found that majority (~90%) of the existing tourism destinations, hotels, and resorts in the region belong to the third class of astro-tourism site where only bright celestial objects are observable. Better locations (class 2) can be found in Ciwidey, Cikole-Ciater, and Padalarang regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
