Abstract

Blazars are beamed active galactic nuclei known for their strong multi-wavelength variability on timescales from years down to minutes. We aim to investigate the suitability of the twisting jet model presented in previous works to explain the multi-wavelength behaviour of BL Lacertae, the prototype of one of the blazar classes. According to this model, the jet is inhomogeneous, curved, and twisting, and the long-term variability is due to changes in the Doppler factor due to variations in the orientation of the jet-emitting regions. We analysed optical data of the source obtained during monitoring campaigns organised by the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) in 2019-2022, together with radio data from the WEBT and other teams, and gamma-ray data from the Fermi satellite. In this period, BL Lacertae underwent an extraordinary activity phase, reaching its historical optical and gamma-ray brightness maxima. The application of the twisting jet model to the source light curves allows us to infer the wiggling motion of the optical, radio, and gamma-ray jet-emitting regions. The optical-radio correlation shows that the changes in the radio viewing angle follow those in the optical viewing angle by about 120 days, and it suggests that the jet is composed of plasma filaments, which is in agreement with some radio high-resolution observations of other sources. The gamma-ray emitting region is found to be co-spatial with the optical one, and the analysis of the gamma-optical correlation is consistent with both the geometric interpretation and a synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) origin of the high-energy photons. We propose a geometric scenario where the jet is made up of a pair of emitting plasma filaments in a sort of double-helix curved rotating structure, whose wiggling motion produces changes in the Doppler beaming and can thus explain the observed multi-wavelength long-term variability., Comment: In press for A&A

Abstract

We study the broadband emission of Mrk 501 using multiwavelength observations from 2017 to 2020 performed with a multitude of instruments, involving, among others, MAGIC, Fermi's Large Area Telescope (LAT), NuSTAR, Swift, GASP-WEBT, and the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. Mrk 501 showed an extremely low broadband activity, which may help to unravel its baseline emission. Nonetheless, significant flux variations are detected at all wave bands, with the highest occurring at X-rays and very-high-energy (VHE) γ -rays. A significant correlation (>3 σ ) between X-rays and VHE γ -rays is measured, supporting leptonic scenarios to explain the variable parts of the emission, also during low activity. This is further supported when we extend our data from 2008 to 2020, and identify, for the first time, significant correlations between the Swift X-Ray Telescope and Fermi-LAT. We additionally find correlations between high-energy γ -rays and radio, with the radio lagging by more than 100 days, placing the γ -ray emission zone upstream of the radio-bright regions in the jet. Furthermore, Mrk 501 showed a historically low activity in X-rays and VHE γ -rays from mid-2017 to mid-2019 with a stable VHE flux (>0.2 TeV) of 5% the emission of the Crab Nebula. The broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) of this 2 yr long low state, the potential baseline emission of Mrk 501, can be characterized with one-zone leptonic models, and with (lepto)-hadronic models fulfilling neutrino flux constraints from IceCube. We explore the time evolution of the SED toward the low state, revealing that the stable baseline emission may be ascribed to a standing shock, and the variable emission to an additional expanding or traveling shock.

Critical Race Mixed Methodology (CRMM) is a transformative mixed methods approach that combines CRT within a mixed methods design. In this article, we reflect upon our experience using and publishing a CRMM explanatory mixed methods study in a higher education journal's special issue focused on mixed methods research. We discuss the benefits of using CRMM as a transformative method. Then, we share the challenges of using CRMM. We also provide recommendations for engaging in CRMM research within psychology.

6. Conceptualization of Motion in Persian Compound Verbs: A Cognitive Approach

Abstract

Motion is considered as a fundamental concept in human cognitive system that could be represented in all languages differently. The present paper is going to explain that how lexicalization happens in motion compound verbs. This research is analytical descriptive, and is going to study the lexical meaning of the none-verbal elements and main verb elements such as (do, give, become, hit, eat, go, take, come, pull) according to Talmy’s theory(1985) ,and to find the amount of lexicalization of these verbs in Persian language which is divided into verb-framed and satellite-framed combined verbs. Another aim is to show the semantic meaning between its constructions. Thus, 100 combined verbs collected as non-head framed construction which consisted of mentioned verbs from Fargang-e-Sokhan (Anvari,1381). The results indicate that lexicalization happens both in root and satellite. It also shows that the meaning components of each head framed construction causes that special satellite accompanied with the mentioned verbs, thus the more fertility in satellite, the more lexicalization. Other results show that Persian compound verbs are more satellite-framed than verb-framed. Another result shows that according to Slobin’s theory (1960), speakers of verb-based languages as persian languags languages tend to remove the component of path in sentences.

7. Numerical Black Hole Solutions For A Timelike Bumblebee Field

Abstract

This work builds on a paper by Casana et al. [1], in which they calculated an exact, spherically symmetric solution to the Einstein equations in the presence of a bumblebee vector field. We extend their solutions by introducing a timelike component to the vector field. We are able to obtain series solutions to the Einstein equation in the presence of this field. We then demonstrate that these solutions recover flat spacetime. Our results cast doubt on the physical viability of this model, but a more thorough proof is required.

8. Is the friction angle the maximum slope of a free surface of a non cohesive material?

Abstract

Starting from a symmetric triangular pile with a horizontal basis and rotating the basis in the vertical plane, we have determined the evolution of the stress distribution as a function of the basis inclination using Finite Elements method with an elastic-perfectly plastic constitutive model, defined by its friction angle, without cohesion. It is found that when the yield function is the Drucker-Prager one, stress distribution satisfying equilibrium can be found even when one of the free-surface slopes is larger than the friction angle. This means that piles with a slope larger than the friction angle can be (at least) marginally stable and that slope rotation is not always a destabilising perturbation direction. On the contrary, it is found that the slope cannot overpass the friction angle when a Mohr-Coulomb yield function is used. Theoretical explanation of these facts is given which enlightens the role plaid by the intermediate principal stress in both cases of the Mohr-Coulomb criterion and of the Drucker-Prager one. It is then argued that the Mohr-Coulomb criterion assumes a spontaneous symmetry breaking, as soon as the two smallest principal stresses are different ; this is not physical most likely; so this criterion shall be replaced by a Drucker-Prager criterion in the vicinity of the equality, which leads to the previous anomalous behaviour ; so these numerical computations enlighten the avalanche process: they show that no dynamical angle larger than the static one is needed to understand avalanching. It is in agreement with previous experimental results. Furthermore, these results show that the maximum angle of repose can be modified using cyclic rotations; we propose a procedure that allows to achieve a maximum angle of repose to be equal to the friction angle ., Comment: 21 pages + 1 page, 12 figures

9. The identification and characterisation of genes expressed in adult human testis

Abstract

By the identification and isolation of cDNAs expressed specifically in the human testis I aimed to identify novel genes involved in spermatogenesis and/or spermiogenesis. Using Differential Display Reverse Transcriptase-PCR (DDRT-PCR) on RNA from a range of tissues which were selected to be logically related to testis functions I isolated a number of short cDNA fragments. Tissue-specific expression was confirmed by using RT-PCR with gene-specific primers. Three genes were examined in detail: Entire transcripts were sequenced by primer walking along cDNA templates generated by 5'RACE and the size of full-length cDNAs was confirmed by Northern analysis. The chromosomal locations of the genes were determined by two methods. Firstly by PCR amplification using gene specific primers of a panel of rodent somatic cell hybrids that each contain a single human chromosome Secondly, genomic clones (BAC or a PAC) were hybridised in situ to human metaphase chromosomes (FISH). Using the BAC clones, some genomic gene structure was determined. In this way I have isolated and characterised three novel genes from testis, TSGA10, GNG2 and T2G3. Testis Specific Gene A10 (TSGA10) is not expressed in a variety of tissues functionally related to testis nor is it expressed in either testes of two infertile patients or in foetal testis. The TSGA10 gene (GenBank Accession no. AF254756) consists of 3038 nucleotides spread over 19 exons and contains an open reading frame of 698 amino acids and one alternative splice site. RT-PCR results using RNA prepared from foetal and tumour tissues showed that transcripts from this gene are also present in squamous cell carcinoma, parotid and thyroid tumours, benign prostate hypertrophy and almost all foetal tissues though with different levels of expression in different tissues. Several ESTs with almost 100% homology to the TSGA10 transcript exist in the databases but all are probably derived from testis apart from three which were isolated from tumour tissues. This pattern of expression suggests that TSGA10 has a role in actively dividing cells and possibly in cell division and mitosis. The mouse homologue of this gene was also cloned and characterised. The gene GNG2 is a G protein subunit. The gene T2G3 is another novel gene. Both have been characterised to a lesser extent than TSGA10.

Abstract

Introduction: Physical inactivity has been linked with many non-communicable diseases and it is now a major health problem in many countries. The aim of this research was to study the level of physical activity in the students at basic medical ssciences in Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This research was a cross sectional-descriptive study and its sampling method was census. The number of students from Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences at basic medical sciences who consented to participate in the study was 220. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (long form) was used to collect data. SPSS version 16 was used for analysis of the obtained data. The significance level was considered less than 0.05. Results: From 221students attending this project, 36 (16.3%) students were males and 185 were females. In this study, 33.5% (74 students), 61.5% (136 students) and 5% (11 students) had, respectively, low, moderate and severe physical activity. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between physical activity and body mass index (P=0.003) and life location (P=0.012) and gender (P=0.001). Conclusion: Approximately one third (33.4%) of the students had low physical activity and moderate and severe physical activity was more than the female students. It seems that some interventions should be designed for increasing the level of physical activity among the students in order to determine the current status and present solutions for improving the present situation.

Abstract

Introduction: Urinary incontinence is a common occurrence during pregnancy, which disrupts the quality of life of women and also requires a huge cost for treatment, due to the lack of such studies in the city of Yazd, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of and the factors associated with stress urinary incontinence after childbirth in Yazd in 2015. Methods: This study was a descriptive- cross sectional study, which included women 4 months after the last delivery referred to Shahid Sadoughi hospital. 500 of them were selected by convenience sampling and their information was obtained through SandviK questionnaire. The data were analyzed via SPSS 16 using chi-square test and T test. Results: Prevalence of stress urinary incontinence after childbirth in this study was 32.4 %. The frequency of urinary incontinence increased in women with one delivery (3.3%), two deliveries (27.6%) and three deliveries (61.1%). The frequency of urinary incontinence after giving birth in a hospital or home was 31.2 % and 76.9 %, respectively, which shows a significant difference (P =0.001). Conclusion: The results of this study show that the frequency of urinary incontinence in women in Yazd is high. With regard to social and medical importance of urinary incontinence, it needs to perform some effective strategies for prevention and treatment of urinary incontinence in the city of Yazd.

Introduction: Diabetes is the most common and important metabolic disorder in pregnancy period. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes and its risk factors in Meibod County Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out using registered data of diabetes screening program for all pregnant women living in Meibod town during the years 2013-2014. In first gynecology visit, FBS test was conducted for 1209 pregnant women who had no past record of diabetes. According to existence or lack of risk factors, participants went through glucose 3-hour tolerance test (OGTT) with 75 grams of glucose. The data were analyzed using SPSS software (Vs. 18) by Chi-squared, t-test, and logistic regression test. Results: Mean age of women with gestational diabetes was 27.8±5.85 while it was 26.1±5.35 for healthy women. There was significant relation between age, body mass index, parity, family record of the diabetes, and history of gestational diabetes (P=0.000). There was no significant relationship between gestational diabetes and history of hypertension, gestational diabetes, stillbirth, spontaneous abortion, child's weight of 4 kg or more at birth, and fetal abnormalities in previous pregnancies. Abstract

Introduction: An effective vaccine against HCV infection is not available. The non-structural protein 3 (NS3) of the virus as an important immunogenic candidate has been utilized in various modules. Nanostructured polymers have been recently used for efficient vaccine and drug delivery. The aim of the current study was the synthesis of rNS3-G2 conjugate and preliminary evaluation of its immunogenicity. Methods: The dendrimer was synthesized and conjugated with purified recombinant NS3 (rNS3) protein. The physicochemical properties of the conjugate were evaluated by Zeta potential, FT-IR spectra and confirmed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Immunogenicity of the conjugate was assessed in BALB/c mice. Results: Synthesis and conjugation of dendrimer G2 with the protein were confirmed and immunological assays showed that the conjugated form of the antigen induced higher titer of IgG compared to rNS3 antigen alone. Conclusion: The results showed that the antigenic structure of rNS3 was maintained when conjugated with the biodegradable and biocompatible G2 dendrimers and the immunogenic properties of the antigen were enhanced. Therefore the new formulation may have potential as a vaccine candidate.

Abstract

Angiogenesis, as the process of new vessel formation from pre-existing vessels is dependent on a delicate equilibrium between endogenous angiogenic and antiangiogenic factors. However, under pathological conditions, this tight regulation becomes lost which can result in the formation of the different diseases such as cancer. Angiogenesis is a complex process that includes many gene products that are produced by different cells. Each of the processes influenced by specific genes that their expression can be regulated by hypoxi inducible factor-1 (HIF-1). Hypoxia, the imbalance between the oxygen in need and the oxygen available, usually occurs in tumors and ischemic cardiovascular diseases. In order to overcome this challenge, tumors regulate and control the expression of genes related to angiogenesis, cell cycle and metabolism using hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1). HIF-1 was first recognized as a transcription factor involved in hypoxia-induced erythropoietin expression. As angiogenesis pathway molecules are being described, this factor has been characterized as a key transcription regulator for these molecules. In this review article, after discussing HIF-1 structure and characterization, the role of this important factor in angiogenesis and cancer as a pathological case and finally, the clinical applications has been evaluated. Articles related to the key words of hypoxia, HIF-1 and angiogenesis were searched from valid databases such as Springer Link, google scholar, Pubmed and Sciencedirect. Then, the articles related to the role of hypoxia and HIF-1 in activation of genes that are involved in angiogenesis and cancer were searched and selected for this study. Studies show that, HIF-1 activation of genes including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), etc., induced angiogenesis in the tumor cells. Furthermore, the activation of genes such as insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2), transforming growth factor α (TGF-α) and MAPK and PI3K signaling pathway will also enable the survival and proliferation of tumor cells. Abstract

In 2021 BL Lacertae underwent an extraordinary activity phase, which was intensively followed by the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) Collaboration. We present the WEBT optical data in the BVRI bands acquired at 36 observatories around the world. In mid 2021 the source showed its historical maximum, with R = 11.14. The light curves display many episodes of intraday variability, whose amplitude increases with source brightness, in agreement with a geometrical interpretation of the long-term flux behaviour. This is also supported by the long-term spectral variability, with an almost achromatic trend with brightness. In contrast, short-term variations are found to be strongly chromatic and are ascribed to energetic processes in the jet. We also analyse the optical polarimetric behaviour, finding evidence of a strong correlation between the intrinsic fast variations in flux density and those in polarisation degree, with a time delay of about 13 h. This suggests a common physical origin. The overall behaviour of the source can be interpreted as the result of two mechanisms: variability on time scales greater than several days is likely produced by orientation effects, while either shock waves propagating in the jet, or magnetic reconnection, possibly induced by kink instabilities in the jet, can explain variability on shorter time scales. The latter scenario could also account for the appearance of quasi-periodic oscillations, with periods from a few days to a few hours, during outbursts, when the jet is more closely aligned with our line of sight and the time scales are shortened by relativistic effects., Comment: 15 pages, 16 figures, submitted to MNRAS

Abstract

The astrophysical journal / Supplement series 266(2), 37 (2023). doi:10.3847/1538-4365/acc181, We study the broadband emission of Mrk 501 using multiwavelength observations from 2017 to 2020 performed with a multitude of instruments, involving, among others, MAGIC, Fermi's Large Area Telescope (LAT), NuSTAR, Swift, GASP-WEBT, and the Owens Valley Radio Observatory. Mrk 501 showed an extremely low broadband activity, which may help to unravel its baseline emission. Nonetheless, significant flux variations are detected at all wave bands, with the highest occurring at X-rays and very-high-energy (VHE) $γ$-rays. A significant correlation (>3σ) between X-rays and VHE $γ$-rays is measured, supporting leptonic scenarios to explain the variable parts of the emission, also during low activity. This is further supported when we extend our data from 2008 to 2020, and identify, for the first time, significant correlations between the Swift X-Ray Telescope and Fermi-LAT. We additionally find correlations between high-energy γ-rays and radio, with the radio lagging by more than 100 days, placing the γ-ray emission zone upstream of the radio-bright regions in the jet. Furthermore, Mrk 501 showed a historically low activity in X-rays and VHE $γ$-rays from mid-2017 to mid-2019 with a stable VHE flux (>0.2 TeV) of 5% the emission of the Crab Nebula. The broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) of this 2 $γ$r long low state, the potential baseline emission of Mrk 501, can be characterized with one-zone leptonic models, and with (lepto)-hadronic models fulfilling neutrino flux constraints from IceCube. Abstract

Background and Objective: Poor sleep, poor quality of sleep and sleepiness are among the common problems as-sociated with learning, memory and educational performance in children and adolescents. Considering the lack of pre-vious literature in this field, especially in the city of Yazd, Iran, a number of high-school students of the city participat-ed in a study to assess sleep problems and influencing factors. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 740 high-school students in Yazd were selected using multi-stage cluster random sampling method. The data were collected using Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), reliability and validity of which had been proved (with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.8). After encoding questionnaires, correlation and chi-square tests were used to evaluate the impact of corresponding factors on sleep quality via SPSS software. Results: Of 740 students, 39% had sleep disturbances that had significant relationship with variables of gender, field of study, father's occupation, and father's education. Mean PSQI score did not have significant relationship with varia-bles of mother's education, body mass index (BMI), students’ birth, and mother's job. Furthermore, 16.7% of students were unsatisfied with their sleep pattern, while 3.5%, 58.7%, and 21.1% were very unsatisfied, satisfied, and very satis-fied, respectively. Conclusion: Teenagers’ sleep may be affected by different factors such as sex, field of study, father's occupation, and father's education. Change in environmental and family condition could improve sleep disturbances, educational, and occupational performance.

Mumps outbreaks among previously vaccinated young adults raise concerns regarding waning vaccine immunity. This study identified, described and assessed the changing incidence of mumps cases following mumps-containing vaccination (MMR/MMRV) in a non-mumps outbreak setting. Potential cases between 1996 and 2018 were identified by the international classification of disease codes or by mumps laboratory test orders among Kaiser Permanente Northern California members. The peak integral flux above 200 GeV measured with the nightly binned light curve is (8.8 ± 0.4) × 10−7 photons m−2 s−1, or ∼37% of the Crab Nebula flux. Multiwavelength observations from X-ray, UV, and optical instruments are also presented. A moderate correlation between the X-ray and TeV gamma-ray fluxes was observed, and the X-ray spectrum appeared harder when the flux was higher. Using the gamma-ray spectrum and four models of the extragalactic background light (EBL), a conservative 95% confidence upper limit on the redshift of the source was found to be z ≤ 0.31. Unlike the gamma-ray and X-ray bands, the optical flux did not increase significantly during the studied period compared to the archival low-state flux. The spectral variability from optical to X-ray bands suggests that the synchrotron peak of the spectral energy distribution (SED) may become broader during flaring states, which can be adequately described with a one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model varying the high-energy end of the underlying particle spectrum. The synchrotron peak frequency of the SED and the radio morphology of the jet from the MOJAVE program are consistent with the source being an intermediate-frequency-peaked BL Lac object. © 2022. Abstract

We evaluated whether parental clinical conditions were associated with fever after a first dose of measles-containing vaccine (MCV) in the child in a cohort study including 244,125 children born in Kaiser Permanente Northern California between 2009 and 2016 who received MCV between ages 1 and 2 years. Each child was linked with his/her mother and father when possible. Parental clinical conditions present before and after their child’s birth were identified. We defined fever in the children as clinic and emergency department visits with a fever code 7–10 days after a first dose of MCV (“MCV-associated fever”). We evaluated parental clinical conditions associated with MCV-associated fever using multivariate logistic regression analyses. After adjusting for multiple factors, including healthcare utilization, maternal fever [odds ratio (OR) = 1.19, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06–1.32], fever after MCV (OR = 5.90, 95% CI 1.35–25.78), respiratory infections (OR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.10–1.31), migraine (OR = 1.14, 95% CI 1.05–1.24), syncope (OR 1.14, 95% CI 1.01–1.27), and essential thrombocythemia (OR = 1.93, 95% CI 1.15–3.25) were significantly associated with MCV-associated fever. Paternal respiratory infections (OR = 1.15, 95% CI 1.05–1.27), fever associated with respiratory infections (OR = 1.47, 95% CI 1.23–1.76), and vitiligo (OR = 1.63, 95% CI 1.06–2.53) were significantly associated with MCV-associated fever. Parental clinical conditions, specifically fever alone and fever associated with respiratory infection, are associated with fever in their child 7–10 days after MCV.

Abstract

Objective: To detect whether the preoperative combined administration of rectal diclofenac and paracetamol is superior to placebo or rectal diclofenac alone for pain after abdominal hysterectomy. Materials and methods: Ninety female patients (American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I-II), scheduled for abdominal hysterectomy were recruited to this double blind trial and were randomized to receive one of three modalities before surgery: rectal combination of diclofenac and paracetamol, rectal diclofenac alone or rectal placebo alone which were given as a suppository one hour prior to surgery. The primary outcomes were visual analogue pain scores measured at 0, 0.5, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 24 hours after surgery and the time of first administration and also total amount of morphine used in the first 24 hour after surgery. A 10 cm visual analog scale (VAS ) was used to assess pain intensity at rest. Results: In patients receiving the combination of diclofenac and paracetamol total dose of morphine used in the first 24 hour after surgery was significantly lower (13.9 ± 2.7 mg) compared to diclofenac group (16.8± 2.8 mg) and placebo group (20.1 ± 3.6 mg) (p < 0.05). VAS pain score was significantly lower in combination group compared to other groups all time during first 24 hours (p < 0.05). There had been a significant difference between combination group and the two other groups in terms of the first request of morphine (p < 0.05). Conclusion: According to our study Patients who receive the rectal diclofenac-paracetamol combination experience significantly a lower pain scale in the first 24 hour after surgery compared with patients receiving diclofenac or placebo alone. Their need to supplementary analgesic is significantly later and lower compared to placebo and diclofenac alone.

32. Conceptualization of Motion in Persian Compound Verbs: A Cognitive Approach.

Abstract

Motion is considered as a fundamental concept in human cognitive system that could be represented in all languages differently. The present paper is going to explain that how lexicalization happens in motion compound verbs. This research is analytical descriptive, and is going to study the lexical meaning of the none-verbal elements and main verb elements such as (do, give, become, hit, eat, go, take, come, pull) according to Talmy's theory(1985), and to find the amount of lexicalization of these verbs in Persian language which is divided into verb-framed and satellite-framed combined verbs. Another aim is to show the semantic meaning between its constructions. Thus, 100 combined verbs collected as non-head framed construction which consisted of mentioned verbs from Fargang-e-Sokhan (Anvari,1381). The results indicate that lexicalization happens both in root and satellite. It also shows that the meaning components of each head framed construction causes that special satellite accompanied with the mentioned verbs, thus the more fertility in satellite, the more lexicalization. Other results show that Persian compound verbs are more satellite-framed than verb-framed. Another result shows that according to Slobin's theory (1960), speakers of verb -based languages as persian languags languages tend to remove the component of path in sentences. Abstract

The main point of this paper is to identify the key features and load transfer mechanisms controlling friction fatigue of piles under cyclic loading. Numerical modeling makes use of an advanced elastoplastic state dependent constitutive model, the ECP model, also known as Hujeux's model. Therefore, the cyclic loading simulations allowed the identification of three levels of friction degradation, depending on the amplitude of the previous maximum load cycle. Furthermore, the analysis also offers useful insights regarding the modification of the pile static resistance once it has been cyclically loaded. All analyses are carried out considering nondisplacement piles in Toyoura sand. Key words: friction fatigue, cyclic, nonlinear, Toyoura sand. L'objectif principal de cet article est d'identifier les caracteristiques cles et les mecanismes de transfert de charge qui controlent la fatigue de friction de pieux soumis a des charges cycliques. Abstract

Introduction: Physical inactivity has been linked with many non-communicable diseases and it is now a major health problem in many countries. The aim of this research was to study the level of physical activity in the students at basic medical ssciences in Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This research was a cross sectional-descriptive study and its sampling method was census. The number of students from Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences at basic medical sciences who consented to participate in the study was 220. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (long form) was used to collect data. SPSS version 16 was used for analysis of the obtained data. The significance level was considered less than 0.05. Results: From 221students attending this project, 36 (16.3%) students were males and 185 were females. In this study, 33.5% (74 students), 61.5% (136 students) and 5% (11 students) had, respectively, low, moderate and severe physical activity. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between physical activity and body mass index (P=0.003) and life location (P=0.012) and gender (P=0.001). Conclusion: Approximately one third (33.4%) of the students had low physical activity and moderate and severe physical activity was more than the female students. It seems that some interventions should be designed for increasing the level of physical activity among the students in order to determine the current status and present solutions for improving the present situation.

Abstract

As space-based Earth observations are delivering a growing amount and variety of data, the potential of this information to better support disaster risk management is coming into increased scrutiny. Disaster risk management actions are commonly divided into the different steps of the disaster management cycle, which include: prevention, to minimize future losses; preparedness and crisis management, often focused on saving lives; and post-crisis management aiming at re-establishing services supporting human activities. Based on a literature review and examples of studies in the area of coastal, hydro-meteorological and geohazards, this review examines how space-based Earth observations have addressed the needs for information in the area of disaster risk management so far. We show that efforts have essentially focused on hazard assessments or supporting crisis management, whereas a number of needs still remain partly fulfilled for vulnerability and exposure mapping, as well as adaptation planning. A promising way forward to maximize the impact of Earth observations includes multi-risk approaches, which mutualize the collection of time-evolving vulnerability and exposure data across different hazards. Opportunities exist as programmes such as the Copernicus Sentinels are now delivering Earth observations of an unprecedented quality, quantity and repetitiveness, as well as initiatives from the disaster risk science communities such as the development of observatories. We argue that, as a complement to this, more systematic efforts to (1) build capacity and (2) evaluate where space-based Earth observations can support disaster risk management would be useful to maximize its societal benefits.
