In this study, the effect of Ti-B (0.05-0.7 wt.% Ti, 0.01 - 0.13 wt.% B) and Sr additions (0.05-0.7 wt.%) on the hardness, ultimate tensile strength (UTS), strain and fatigue properties of the gravity cast Zn-Al-based ZA-12 alloy was investigated. While the Ti-B additions had no significant effect on the hardness of the alloys, the Sr additions lowered the hardness by a small amount. UTS and fatigue resistance of the ZA-12 alloy increased with 0.05 wt.% Ti, but the addition of 0.05 wt.% Sr to the standard alloy did not change these properties significantly. In excess of 0.05 wt.% Ti and Sr, the UTS and fatigue resistance of the alloys decreased and reached a lower value than that of the standard alloy. The failure strain only increased for the ZA-12 alloy containing 0.05 wt.% Ti, then decreased with further increase in Ti content. The failure strain values of the alloys decreased with addition of Sr. Metallographic examination indicated that the addition of Ti-B strongly modified the microstructure of the standard ZA-12 alloy, but Sr did not. Ti and Sr have also formed complex-shaped intermetallic compounds, which were identified as Al5Ti2Zn and Zn5Al3Sr by X-ray diffraction and EDS analyses. It can be suggested that these particles cause a decrease in UTS, fatigue resistance, and strain to failure of the ZA-12 alloy.

The effect of strontium additions in mass fractions of (0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 1) % to a magnesium alloy (Mg-3Sn) was investigated in this work. The alloys were gravity cast under a controlled atmosphere. The mechanical properties and the microstructures of the above alloys were examined and recorded. The results revealed that an addition of strontium to the above alloy had significantly affected its microstructure. The X-ray diffraction results showed that in all of the obtained alloys the main phases were a-Mg and Mg2Sn, and that the strontium-based intermetallics were not detected. The hardness values increased with the increasing strontium content. The highest yield strength, tensile strength and elongation were exhibited by the Mg-%3Sn-%0.1Sr alloy. V tem delu je bil preiskovan učinek dodatka masnih deležev stroncija (0,05; 0,1; 0,2; 0,5 in 1) % magnezijevi zlitini (Mg-3Sn). Zlitine so bile gravitacijsko lite v kontrolirani atmosferi. Preiskane in ugotovljene so bile mehanske lastnosti in mikrostruture navedenih zlitin. Rezultati so pokazali, da dodatek stroncija pri tej zlitini močno vpliva na mikrostrukturo. Rezultati rentgenske difrakcije so pokazali, da so glavne faze a-Mg, Mg2Sn v preiskovanih zlitinah, niso pa bile odkrite intermetalne faze na osnovi stroncija. Vrednosti trdote so naraščale z naraščajočo vsebnostjo stroncija. Najvišja meja plastičnosti, najvišja trdnost in največji raztezek se je pokazal pri zlitini Mg-%3Sn-%0,1Sr.

06.03.2018 tarihli ve 30352 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanan “Yükseköğretim Kanunu İle Bazı Kanun Ve Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamelerde Değişiklik Yapılması Hakkında Kanun” ile 18.06.2018 tarihli “Lisansüstü Tezlerin Elektronik Ortamda Toplanması, Düzenlenmesi ve Erişime Açılmasına İlişkin Yönerge” gereğince tam metin erişime açılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, magnezyum-alüminyum esaslı bir alaşım olan Mg-6Al alaşımının üretimi, kontrollü atmosferde, sıkıştırma döküm yöntemi kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonrasında manganez ve titanyum elementi ayrı ayrı ağırlıkça % 0,1, 0,2, 0,3 ve 0,4 oranlarında ilave edilmiştir. Daha sonra AM60 alaşımına kalay alaşım elementi ağırlıkça % 0,5, 1, 2 ve 4 olarak ilave edilmiştir. Elde edilen bilgiler doğrultusunda Mg- %6 Al- %0,3 Mn-% 0,3 Ti alaşımının en iyi mekanik özelliklere sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu nedenle bu araştırma için Mg-%6 Al- %0,3 Mn- %0,3 Ti alaşımı 8 kg ’lık ana alaşım olarak üretilmiş ve A1 olarak kodlanmıştır. Ana alaşıma ağırlıkça % 0,3, 0,5, 1 ve 2 oranlarında Stronsiyum (Sr) alaşım elementi sıkıştırma döküm yöntemi kullanılarak ilave edilmiş ve üretilen alaşımlar sırasıyla A2, A3, A4 ve A5 olarak kodlanmıştır. Daha sonra ana alaşıma ağırlıkça %1 kalay (Sn) ilavesi gerçekleştirilmiş ve alaşım B1 olarak kodlanmıştır. Kalay miktarı sabit tutulmak koşulu ile çeşitli oranlarda Sr (ağırlıkça % 0,3-0,5-1-2) alaşım elementi sıkıştırma döküm yöntemi kullanılarak sırasıyla B2, B3, B4 ve B5 alaşımları üretilmiştir. Elde edilen alaşımlara sertlik, çekme ve darbe deneyleri uygulanmıştır. Optik mikroskop (OM) ve taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) kullanılarak mikroyapı çalışmaları gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ayrıca XRD kullanılarak faz analizi yapılmış ve mikroyapı çalışmaları desteklenmiştir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda, Mg-6Al alaşımının mikroyapı ve x-ışınları çalışması; alaşımın α-Mg, alüminyumca zengin α-ötektik ve ötektik dönüşüm esnasında dentritler arasında oluşan β- Mg17Al12 intemetalik fazlarından oluştuğu tespit edilmiştir. Tane boyutu analizi ile Mg-6Al alaşımının ortalama tane boyutu 107 µm olarak hesaplanmıştır. Titanyum ilavesi ile Mg-6Al alaşımında yeni bir faza rastlanmamıştır. Buna karşın, ağırlıkça %0,3 Mn ilavesinden sonra, Mg-6Al alaşımında AlMn intermetalik fazı oluşmuştur. Ayrıca alaşımın tane boyutu, artan Ti ve Mn miktarı ile azalmıştır. Mg-6Al-0,3Mn alaşımına Sn alaşım elementi ilave edilmesi ile elde edilen alaşımın SEM ve X-ışınları çalışmalarından kalayın bir miktarının α-Mg fazı içerisinde çözündüğü ve kalan kısmının Mg2Sn intermetaliğini oluşturduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ön çalışmalardan sonra ana alaşım olarak üretilen A1 (Mg- %6Al-%0,3Mn-%0,3Ti) alaşımının x-ışınları analizi sonucu alaşımda α-Mg, α-Ti, βMg17Al12 ve Al8Mn5 fazlarının varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Sr ilaveli alaşımların X-ışınları analizlerinde ek olarak Al4Sr ve Mg17Sr2 fazları tespit edilmiştir. B1 (Mg-%6Al-%1Sn- %0,3Mn-%0,3Ti) alaşımının X-ışınları analizi sonucu alaşımda α-Mg, α-Ti, β-Mg17Al12, Mg2Sn ve Al8Mn5 fazlarının varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Sr ilaveli alaşımların X-ışınları analizlerinde ek olarak Al4Sr ve SrMgSn fazlarının oluştuğu tespit edilmiştir. A1 ve B1 alaşımlarının tane boyutunun Sr ilavesi ile azaldığı tespit edilmiştir. Mg-6Al alaşımının sertlik ve çekme mukavemeti değeri sırasıyla 40 Brinell ve 144 MPa olarak bulunmuştur. Mg-6Al alaşımına ağırlıkça % 0,3’e kadar mangan ve titanyum ilavesi ile alaşımın sertlik ve çekme mukavemeti değeri artmıştır. Mg-6Al-0,3Mn alaşımına Sn ilavesinin, alaşımın sertliğini ve çekme mukavemetini arttırdığı gözlenmiştir. Benzer sonuçlar A1 ve B1 alaşımına Sr ilavesi ile de elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca A1 (Mg-6Al-0,3Mn0,3Ti) alaşımının darbe direnci 16 Joule elde edilmiş ve % 1 Sr ilavesine kadar arttığı tespit edilmiştir. B1 (Mg-6Al-1Sn-0,3Mn-0,3Ti) alaşımının darbe direnci 18 Joule olarak bulunmuş ve A grubu alaşımlarda olduğu gibi, B1 alaşımının darbe direnci % 1 Sr ilavesine kadar artmıştır. In this study, magnesium-aluminium based alloy (Mg- Al 6 wt.%) were produced under a controlled atmosphere by a squeeze-casting process and then, the effect of manganese and titanium, which were added as 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 wt.%, on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg- 6Al alloy were investigated. After experience was gained from a pre-study, the Mg-%6Al-%0,3Mn-%0,3Ti alloy was produced as a master alloy and it was called as “A1”. Then, different levels of the strontium (0.3, 0.5, 1 and 2 wt.%) were added into this master alloy and it was called as A2, A3, A4 and A5, respectively. The master alloy with tin 1 wt.% was prepared and called as “B1”. Then, four alloys with different strontium content (0.3, 0.5, 1 and 2 wt.%) by using B1 alloy were prepared and called as B2, B3, B4 and B5, respectively. The microstructure of all alloys was investigated using optical and scanning electron microscope. Phases presented in these alloys were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy methods, and their grain sizes were measured by an image analyzer. The mechanical properties (i.e. hardness, tensile and impact strength) of all alloys were investigated. Metallographic studies and X-ray diffraction analysis of Mg-6Al showed that its microstructure mainly consists of primary α-Mg dendrite grains with eutectic phases (e.g. Al-rich α-Mg + β-Mg17Al12 ) surrounding their boundaries. The grain size of Mg-6Al was measured as 107 µm. The XRD spectrums of the alloys with Ti showed that its addition did not result in the formation of Ti-based any new phase. However, the XRD spectrums of Mn containing-alloys showed that the AlMn was detected in the Mg-6Al-0.3Mn alloy. Besides, the grain size of Mg-6Al decreased with increasing Ti and Mn concentration. Metallographic studies of Mg-6Al-0.3Mn alloy containing Sn showed that some Sn was solved both in the primary α-Mg grains and the β-Mg17Al12, with the rest of Sn, a new polygonal Mg2Sn intermetallic phase was occurred at the grain boundaries. After pre-studies, metallographic studies and X-ray diffraction analysis of the A1 (Mg-%6Al-%0,3Mn-%0,3Ti) showed that the A1 alloy consists of α-Mg, α-Ti, β-Mg17Al12 and Al8Mn5 phases. Sr-containing alloys consists of Al4Sr and Mg17Sr2 phases, as well. X-ray diffraction analysis of B1 alloy mainly consists of α-Mg, α-Ti, β-Mg17Al12, Mg2Sn and Al8Mn5 phase. In addition to this, Al4Sr and SrMgSn intermetallics were formed after Sr addition to B1 alloy. The grain size of A1 and B1 alloys decreased with increasing Sr concentration. The hardness value and ultimate tensile strength (σ UTS) value of Mg-6Al alloy was measured as 40 Brinell and 144 MPa, respectively. The hardness value and UTS of Mg-6Al alloy increased with increasing Ti and Mn concentration. The hardness value and UTS of Mg-6Al0,3 Mn alloy increased with increasing Sn addition. A similar trend is also observed in the A1 and B1 alloys containing Sr. The impact toughness of A1 and B1 alloys was measured as 16 and 18 Joules, respectively. The impact toughness of A1 and B1 alloys was increased until 1 wt. % Sr.

Alüminyum ve alaşımlarını pek çok uygulama için uygun ve ekonomik kılan özelliklerin başında; görünümü, hafifliği, işlenebilirliği, fiziksel ve mekanik özelliği ve korozyon dayanımı gelmektedir. Fakat alüminyum alaşımlarının aşınma dirençleri düşüktür. Aşınma dirençlerinin de iyileştirilmesi için alüminyum alaşımlarına çeşitli takviye elemanları ile hem çekme mukavemetleri hem sertlikleri hem de aşınma dirençleri iyileştirilebilmektedir. Metal Matrisli Kompozit malzemelerin yüksek elastik modül, mukavemet, aşınma dayanımı gibi üstün fiziksel ve mekanik özelliklerinden dolayı son yıllarda üretimleri ve kullanımları yaygınlaşmıştır Sahip oldukları iyi özelliklere rağmen, kompozit malzemeler, üretim maliyetlerinin yüksek olmasından dolayı kullanımları endüstriyel olarak istenen seviyelere henüz ulaşamamıştır. Metal matrisli kompozit malzemelerin elde edilmesinde en önemli adım üretim aşamasıdır. Bu durumda, kompozit malzemenin nihai özelliklerini düşürmeyecek matris ve takviye fazlarının seçiminin bilinçli yapılması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışma da, matris malzemesi olarak seçilen alüminyum bazlı LM6 alaşımıdır. Kompozit malzemeler, hidrolik soğuk kamaralı basınçlı döküm yöntemiyle 1 00 MPa basınç altında %5, %10, %15 hacim oranlarında alümina partikül ilavesi ile üretilmiştir. Bu üretim metodunun, kompozit üretimine uygulanabilirliğini belirlemek amacıyla, üretilen kompozitlerin partikül dağılımı ve döküm kalitesini tespit etmek için yoğunluk ölçümleri ve metalografik çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Üretilen numunelere sırasıyla sertlik, mukavemet ve aşınma testleri yapılmıştır. Takviyesiz LM 6 alaşımına göre sertlik değerleri, kompozit malzemelerde hacim oranı arttıkça ve partikül boyutu azaldıkça sertlik değerlerinin arttığı gözlenmiştir. Çekme mukavemetimiz, hacim oranımız ve partikül boyutumuz arttıkça düşmektedir. Üretilen malzemeler ayrıca detaylı aşınma deneyi yapılarak ağırlıkça aşınmalarının yanında sürtünme katsayıları da tespit edilmiştir. Aşınma deneyleri sonucunda artan hacim oranıyla kompozitlerin aşınma direncinin arttığı, artan yük ile ise aşınma direncinin düştüğü tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte partikül boyutunun artmasıyla aşınma direncinin arttığı belirlenmiştir. LM 6 alaşımına AI2O3 partikül ilavesi ile sürtünme katsayısı değerlerinde ise belirgin bir değişim gözlenmemiştir. But the wearing properties of aluminum alloys are very poor. By adding some reinforcing elements to aluminum alloys in order to improve the wearing resistance; there are also improvements are observed on tensile strength, hardness and wearing resistance. Nowadays the production and the employment of the Metal Matrix Composite materials are increased because of their high physical and mechanical properties such as high elastic module, strength and wearing resistance. Despite those good properties; composite materials could not reach an industrial scale because of their high production costs. The most important step in producing a metal matrix composite is the production. In this step, the matrix and the reinforcing phases should be selected according to some basis that will not lower the final properties of the composite. In this study; matrix material selected as LM6 alloy. Composite materials are produced by adding 5 %, 10 %, % 1 5 per volume alumina particulars by using cold pressurized die casting method under 1 00 MPa. In order to determine the suitability of this method to composite materials; density measurements and metallographic studies were done to prove the particulate dispersion and the casting quality. Hardness, strength and wearing tests were done to samples respectively. It was observed that the hardness values are lowered with the increasing volume ratio and the decreasing particulate size according to un-reinforced LM6 alloy. Tensile strength decreased with the increasing volume ratio and particulate size. The materials that are produced were also investigated by wearing studies in order to examine the weight loses and the friction coefficient. After the wearing tests it was observed that with the increasing volume ratio, the wearing resistance of the composites increased and with the increasing load the wearing resistance decreased. Also the wearing resistance decreased with increasing particulate size. After the AI2O3 particulate reinforced to the LM 6 alloy it was observed that the friction coefficient changed drastically. xi

Bu tez çalışmasında magnezyum alaşımı olan AZ91 malzemeleri üzerinde yapılan çalışmalara yoğunlaşılmıştır. AZ91Mg alaşımlı malzemeler, günümüzde kullanmaktan vazgeçemediğimiz pek çok alanda karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bunlardan en önemli saha olarak otomotiv sektörünü gösterebiliriz. Günümüzde çevreye duyarlı araçların üretilmesindeki hassasiyetin arttığı göz önünde bulundurulduğunda AZ91 Mg alaşımlı malzemelerin önemi anlaşılmaktadır. Çünkü daha önce de ifade ettiğimiz gibi araçların ağırlığındaki azalma doğrudan yakıt tüketiminde de bir tasarruf sağlayacaktır. Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW gibi büyük otomotiv firmalarını ele aldığımızda; vites kutusu, ön akslar, yakıt tankı gibi parçalarda Mg alaşımlı malzemeleri kullanmışlardır. Ayrıca Savunma Sanayii tarafından yürütülen Alüminyum ve Çinko bazlı Mg alaşımları döküm teknolojisi ve sürecinin kazanılması, insanlı ve insansız helikopterlerde yüksek yoğrulma direncine sahip ağırlığı düşük gövde parçalarının üretilmesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. When we consider big automotive companies such as Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW; gear box, front axles, fuel tank components such as Mg alloy materials used. In addition, the casting technology and process of Aluminum and Zinc-based Mg alloys carried out by the Defense Industry have been achieved, and the production of low-weight body parts with high kneading resistance in manned and unmanned helicopters. Tüm dünyada yaygın olarak kullanılmakta olan paslanmaz çelik, ülkemizde de endüstriyel toplumun her alanında kullanılmaktadır. Türkiye'de paslanmaz çelik üretimi yapılmamakta, bu alandaki ihtiyaçların tamamı yurtdışından karşılanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada yurt dışından ithal edilen 316L kaliteye sahip olan ve 5,5 mm çapında olan filmaşine soğuk deformasyonla tel çekme uygulanması ve tel çekme sonrasında parlak tavlama yapılması çalışılmıştır. Öncelikle gelen filmaşin çinko-fosfat kaplama prosesinden geçirilmiş ve kuru yağlayıcılar ile belirlenen redüksiyon oranları ile haddelerden geçirilmiştir. Telin her haddeden geçişi sonrasında telden numuneler alınmış ve proses boyunca teldeki mekanik ve mikroyapısal değişimler incelenmiştir. İç yapıda deformasyon kaynaklı olarak ɑ'-martenzitik yapının oluştuğu gözlemlenmiştir. Martenzitik dönüşüme uğrayan teller H2 içeren inert ortamda tavlanmış ve tavlama sonrasında ithal edildiği hali olan filmaşin ile aynı mikroyapı elde edilmiş, ASTM A 580-13b standardının istemiş olduğu özelliklere uygun teller üretilmiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler: 316L, Paslanmaz Çelik, Parlak Tavlama, Tel Çekme. There is no stainless steel production in Turkey and all the needs in this field are met from abroad.In this study, it was tried to apply wire drawing with cold deformation of wire rod having a diameter of 5,5 mm and having 316L quality imported from abroad and to perform bright annealing after wire drawing. First, the incoming wire rod is passed through a zinc-phosphate coating process and than passed through drawing dies with reduction ratios determined by dry lubricants. After each pass of the wire, samples of drawn wires were taken and mechanical and microstructural changes during the process were investigated. It has been observed that in the microstructure, ɑ'-martensitic structure occurs as a result of deformation. The Martensitic transformed wires were annealed in an inert atmosphere containing H2 and the same microstructure as the imported wire rod was obtained after annealing, and the appropriate wires were produced according to the specifications of ASTM A 580-13b.Keywords: 316L, Stainless Steel, Bright Annealing, Wire Drawing. 83

Bu çalışmada, Mg-4Sn-1Y (magnezyum-kalay- itriyum) alaşımına farklı ağırlık oranlarında zirkonyum (ağırlıkça %0.01, 0.05 ve 0.1) ilave edilmiş; ergitme için indüksiyon fırını kullanılarak koruyucu atmosfer için de %96 CO2 ve %4 SF6 (sülfür hegzaflorid) gaz karışımı kullanılmıştır. Döküm yöntemi olarak soğuk kamaralı basınçlı döküm yöntemi kullanılmış olup, üretilen malzemelerin mikro yapı analizleri XRD, SEM ve EDS çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Üretilen malzemelerin mekanik testleri oda sıcaklığında yapılmıştır. Malzemelerin korozyon testleri için tuzlu su çözeltisi kullanılarak kütle kayıpları ölçülmüştür. Elde edilen test sonuçları incelendiğinde Mg-4Sn-1Y, Mg-4Sn-1Y-0,01Zr, Mg-4Sn-1Y-0,05Zr ve Mg-4Sn-1Y-0,1Zr alaşımların `biyobozunur malzeme` olarak kullanılabilmesi için gerekli olan mekaniksel ve korozyon özelliklerini taşıdığı sonucuna varılabilir. Son yıllarda otomotiv sektörünün en önemli konu başlıklarından bir tanesinin araç ağırlığını düşürmek ve çevresel sorun olan CO2 emisyonunun azalmasını sağlamaktır. Bu nedenle otomotiv sektöründe hafif metallik malzemeler önemini her gün arttırmaktadır. Magnezyum(Mg) alaşımları sahip olduğu düşük yoğunluğu ve iyi mukavemet/ağırlık oranı ile hafif malzemelerden bir tanesi olarak kabul edilir. Magnezyum alaşımlarının düşük yoğunluğuna rağmen iyi mekanik özellikler elde edilemediği için alaşımlama yeterli olmamaktadır. Bunun sonucu olarak son yıllarda araştırmacılar üstün fiziksel ve mekanik özelliklere ulaşılabilecek magnezyum esaslı kompozitlerin geliştirilmesine yönelmiştir. Henüz istenilen sonuçlar elde edilemediği için geçtiğimiz bir kaç yıldır magnezyum alaşımlarına Nano-partikül takviyesi yapılmakta ve mekanik özellikleri iyileştirilmeye çalışılmaktadır. Bu çalışma da Mg-5Sn alaşımı matriks olarak kullanılmıştır. Daha sonra soğuk kamaralı basınçlı döküm yöntemi ile %1 ve 2 hacim oranlarında nanoAl2O3 ilave edilerek Nano-kompozitler oluşturulmuştur. Üretilen nano-kompozit malzemelerin X-ışınları analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Mekanik test olarak sertlik ve çekme deneyleri gerçekleştirilmiş ve bu sonuçlar alan taramalı elektron mikroskobu (FE-SEM) ve EDS analizleri ile desteklenmiştir. In recent years, one of the most important targets is to lower the growing environmental impact with the further reduction of CO2 emission via more lightweight vehicles for transportation industry.Therefore, the importance of light metals is increasing in past years.With lower density and specific strength ratio, Magnesium (Mg) alloys are one of the potential candidates among lights structure metarials for industrial applications. Hence, a lot of researchers have been studying magnesium-based composites for more excellent mechanical properties such as elastic module, yield strength. Especially, by adding some nano reinforcing particles to magnesium alloys in order to improve the elevated temperature properties are interested by scientists because of their excellent properties compared with micro particles.Mg-5Sn alloy will used for matrix and then, composite materials were produced by adding %1 and 2 volume fractions of nano Al2O3 components particularby using cold chamber pressure die-casting method.After casting of the alloy and composites, the samples were produced for mechanical and metallographic examinations. The mechanical tests will be content the hardness and tensile testing. The metallographic tests will be consisting field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray analysis. 66

Bu çalışmada, yüksek basınçlı döküm yöntemi kullanılarak magnezyum-kalay esaslı alaşımların üretimi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Saf magnezyuma (Mg) ağırlıkça %4 kalay (Sn) elementi ilave edilmiş ve üretilen Mg-4Sn alaşımı ana alaşım olarak belirlenmiştir. Daha sonra Mg-4Sn esaslı alaşımlara ağırlıkça %1, 2 ve 4 oranlarında seryum(Ce), lantanyum (La) ve itriyum (Y) nadir toprak elementleri ilave edilmiştir. Üretilen Mg-4Sn, Mg-4Sn-xCe, Mg-4Sn-xLa ve Mg-4Sn-xY (x=%1, 2 ve 4) magnezyum alaşımlarının biyobozunur malzeme olarak kullanımı araştırılmıştır. Her bir alaşımın mikroyapısal, mekaniksel ve korozyon özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Alaşımların mikroyapı özellikleri alan emisyonlu taramalı elektron mikroskobu (FE-SEM), enerji dağınımlı element (EDS) analizi ve X-ışını difraksiyon (XRD) analizi kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Bu analizler yardımı ile magnezyuma ilave edilen alaşım elementlerinin oluşturduğu fazlar tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen alaşımların mekanik özelliklerinin belirlenmesi için nanoindentasyon, mikrosertlik ve çekme testleri yapılmıştır. Nanoindentasyon ve mikrosertlik testleri gerçekleştirilerek her bir alaşımın nano ve mikro sertlik değerleri ile indirgenmiş elastik modül değerleri ölçülmüştür. Çekme testleri ile alaşımların akma ve çekme mukavemetinin yanı sıra yüzde uzama değerleri de tespit edilmiştir. Alaşımların biyokorozyon davranışlarını incelemek üzere yapay vücut sıvısı olarak kullanılan Hanks dengeli tuz solüsyonu (Hanks Balanced Salt Solution; HBSS) içerisinde, potansiyodinamik polarizasyon testi ve kütle kaybı yöntemi ile alaşımların korozyon hızları tespit edilmiştir.Mikroyapı analizleri sonucunda ilave edilen Ce, La ve Y nadir toprak elementlerinin Mg-4Sn alaşımının mikroyapısını önemli ölçüde etkilediği, yeni intermetalik fazların oluştuğu, dane boyutunu değiştirdiği tespit edilmiştir. Mg-4Sn alaşımına; Ce, La ve Y alaşım elementlerinin artan ağırlık oranlarında ilave edilmesiyle bütün alaşımların nano ve mikrosertlik değerleri ve indirgenmiş elastik modül değerlerinin arttığı görülmüştür. Yapılan çekme testleri ile Mg-4Sn alaşımına ağırlıkça %2 Ce ilavesi ile akma ve çekme mukavemeti değerinin arttığı görülmüştür. Daha fazla Ce ilavesiyle akma mukavemeti değerinin sabit kaldığı, çekme mukavemeti değerinin ve yüzde uzama değerinin ise artmaya devam ettiği tespit edilmiştir. Mg-4Sn alaşımına La alaşım elementi ilavesinin artması ile ana alaşımın akma mukavemeti ve yüzde uzama miktarı artmış, fakat ağırlıkça %2 La ilavesine kadar ana alaşımın çekme mukavemeti değerini artırırken daha fazla La ilavesi çekme mukavemeti değerini bir miktar düşürmüştür. Ana alaşıma Y elementi ilavesi akma mukavemeti ve yüzde uzama değerini artırırken, çekme mukavemeti ağırlıkça %1 Y ilavesi ile artmış, fakat daha fazla Y ilavesi ile düşüş göstermiştir. Yapılan mekanik testler, mikroyapı analizinden elde edilen veriler ile birlikte yorumlanmıştır. Alaşımların biyokorozyon davranışını incelemek üzere gerçekleştirilen korozyon testleri sonucunda Mg-4Sn alaşımına Ce ve La ilavesinin ağırlıkça %1 olması halinde ana alaşımın bozunma hızını azalttığı, daha fazla oranlarda Ce ve La ilavesinin ana alaşımın bozunma hızını arttırdığı tespit edilmiştir. Mg-4Sn alaşımına ilave edilen Y miktarının artması ile alaşımın korozyon direncinin arttığı, ağırlıkça %4 Y ilavesi ile en iyi sonucun elde edildiği görülmüştür.Yapılan çalışmalar sonucunda Mg-4Sn alaşımına ilave edilen Ce, La ve Y alaşım elementlerinin ilave oranlarının alaşımın mikroyapısal, mekanik ve korozyon özelliklerinde önemli etkilere sahip olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Alaşımların mekanik ve biyokorozyon özellikleri göz önünde bulundurulduğunda Mg-4Sn-1Ce ve Mg-4Sn-1La alaşımlarının biyobozunur magnezyum alaşımı olarak kardiyovasküler stent olarak kullanılabilirliğinin olduğu, Mg-4Sn-2Y alaşımının ise biyobozunur ortopedik implant malzemesi olarak kullanılabilir olduğu düşünülmektedir. In this work, magnesium-tin based alloys were produced by high pressure die casting method. Pure magnesium (Mg) was added in an amount of 4% tin (Sn) and the produced Mg-4Sn alloy was identified as the main alloy. Subsequently, cerium (Ce), lanthanum (La) and yttrium (Y) rare earth elements were added to the Mg-4Sn based alloys in ratios of 1, 2 and 4% by weight. The use of Mg-4Sn, Mg-4Sn-xCe, Mg-4Sn-xLa and Mg-4Sn-xY (x = 1, 2 and 4) magnesium alloys as biodegradable materials was investigated. The microstructural, mechanical and corrosion properties of each alloy have been determined. Microstructure properties of alloys were investigated using Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy Dispersive Element (EDS) analysis and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. With the help of these analyzes, phases formed by alloying elements added to magnesium were determined. Nanoindentation, microhardness tests and tensile tests were performed to determine the mechanical properties of the produced alloys. Nanoindentation and microhardness tests were used to measure the elastic modulus values of each alloy with reduced nano and micro hardness values. Tensile tests were also determined the elongation values of the alloys as well as yield and tensile strength. To investigate the biocorrosion behaviors of alloys, corrosion rates of alloys were determined by using Hanks Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) as the artificial body fluid, potentiodynamic polarization test and mass loss method.It was determined that rare earth elements of Ce, La and Y added of the microstructure analysis significantly affected the microstructure of Mg-4Sn alloy, formed new intermetallic phases and changed grain size. Mg-4Sn alloy; the addition of Ce, La and Y alloying elements at increasing weight ratios showed that nano and microhardness values and reduced elastic modulus values of all alloys increased. Tensile tests showed that the yield strength and tensile strength values increased with addition of 2% wt. Ce to the Mg-4Sn alloy. It was determined that the yield strength value remained constant while the tensile strength value and the elongation value contiuned to increase with the addition of more Ce. With the increase of the La alloy element addition to the Mg-4Sn alloy, the yield strength and elongation of the main alloy increased, but increased the tensile strength value of the main alloy to 2% wt. La addition, while the addition of La reduced the tensile strength value slightly. While the main alloying addition of Y element increased the yield strength and percent elongation, the tensile strength increased by 1% wt. addition but decreased by more Y addition. The mechanical tests were interpreted together with the data obtained from the microstructure analysis. As a result of the corrosion tests carried out to investigate the biocorrosion behavior of the alloys, the addition of Ce and La to the Mg-4Sn alloy decreased the corrosion rate of the main alloy if the Ce and La additions were 1% by weight and the addition of Ce and La at more ratios increased the corrosion rate of the main alloy. It has been found that with the increase of the amount of Y added to the Mg-4Sn alloy, the corrosion resistance of the alloy increases and the best results is obtained with addition of 4% Y by weight.As a result of the studies, it has been concluded that the addition ratios of the alloying elements Ce, La and Y added to the Mg-4Sn alloy have significant effects on the microstructure, mechanical and corrosion properties of the alloy. Mg-4Sn-1Ce and Mg-4Sn-1La alloys can be used as biodegradable magnesium alloy as a cardiovascular stent and Mg-4Sn-2Y alloy can be used as biodegradable orthopedic implant material when mechanical and biocorrosive properties of alloys are taken into consideration. 152

In the study,different weight ratios of cerium (0.5, 1 and 2%) were produced in controlled atmosphere bycold chamber pressure die-cast method to Mg-6Al- 0,3Mn-1Sn (magnesium-aluminum- tin) alloy.The effect of -1Sn alloy on mechanical properties has been investigated. In this study, an attempt has been made to examine the wear response of some modified Zn-Al based alloys and a conventional bearing bronze (SAE 660) at the sliding speeds of 0.5 ms(-1), I ms(-1), 1.3 ms(-1), 1.7 ms(-1) and 2 ms(-1) using applied load of 30 N and 45 N. The standard ZA-8 alloy and modified with 1% Ph, PX, Sn and 1% Cd alloys have been subjected to a pin-on-disc wear test under dry condition. A conventional bearing bronze has also been subjected to identical tests with a view to assess the working capability of the modified Zn-A1 based alloys with respect to existing ones. The results have shown that the ZA-8 alloy and modified with Ph, Sn and Cd alloys revealed higher wear resistance when compared with bearing bronze. In addition, wear resistance of ZA-8 based alloys increased with increasing sliding speed up to 1.7 ms-1 for 30 N and 1.3 ms-1 for 45 N, respectively. But it decreased with increasing sliding speed. The addition of Ph to the ZA-8 alloy increased wear resistance of the alloy for all of the sliding speeds at 30 N and 45 N, while the addition of Cd increased wear resistance of the ZA-8 at 45 N. But Sri alloying element caused worse wear resistance for ZA-8 alloy. On the other hand, the friction coefficients of ZA-8 and modified alloys are higher than that of the bearing bronze. Metallographic studies showed that the addition of Pb, Sn and Cd resulted in modifying on the microstructure of ZA-8 alloy. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this study, metal-matrix composites of an aluminum-silicon based alloy (LM6) and Al2O3 particles with volume fractions of 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 and in size of 44, 85 and 125 mu m were produced using pressure die-casting technique. Density, hardness, tensile strength and wear properties were examined. The density values of the composites increased by adding Al2O3 particle. The hardness of the composites increased with increasing particle volume fraction and with decreasing particle size. The tensile strength of the composites decreased with increasing particle volume fractions and size. The wear rate of the composites decreased with increasing particle volume fraction and with decreasing particle size but increased proportionally to the applied load. Wear mechanism for the surface of the unreinforced alloy was plastic deformation, whereas for the composites it was the layer deformation on the surface of the composites. (C) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. In this study, the effect of silver (0, 0.2, 0.5, and 1 wt.%) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a magnesium-based alloy (Mg-Al 6 wt.%-Sn 1 wt.%-Mn 0.3 wt.%-Ti 0.3 wt.%) were investigated. The alloys were produced under a controlled atmosphere by a squeeze-casting process. X-ray diffractometry revealed that the main phases are alpha-Mg, alpha-Ti, beta-Mg17Al12 and Al8Mn5 in the all of alloys. In addition to, Al81Mn19 phase was found with Ag additive. Besides, the amount of beta-Mg17Al12 phase was decreased with increasing the amount of Ag. The strength of the base alloy was increased by solid solution mechanism and decreasing the amount of beta-Mg17Al12 phase with addition of Ag. Furthermore, existence of Al81Mn19 phase can be acted an important role in the increase on the mechanical properties of the alloys. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
