The Alpine Orogenic Belt with numerous porphyry Cu-Mo-Au mineralizations, starts from EasternEurope continues through Turkey and the Caucasus and extends into Iran and Afghanistan. The studyarea of the Eastern Pontides is in this orogenic belt. Using fi eld and laboratory studies an attempt hasbeen made to establish the origin of Yeşilbağlar, Kaban and Köprübaşı alteration zones in the Olurarea (Erzurum). In the study area Early Eocene Coşkunlar volcanics and sub volcanic rocks havecontact with the Oltu çayı volcanics of Early-Middle Jurassic. Alteration in the study area effects theseOltuçayı and Kaban volcanics. In the study area mineralizations are present in the alteration zones.Disseminated, stockwork, vein/veinlet and fi ssure type mineralizations are present in the Coşkunlardacite. Paragenesis in the alteration zones are pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, pyrrohotite,quartz, calcite and barite. FT-IR and XRD studies showed the presence of clay, sulphate, sulphur,carbonate, silicate and oxide minerals in the alteration zones. Field and petrographical studiesshowed that alteration types in the Yeşilbağlar, Kaban and Köprübaşı areas are, advanced argillicargillic,pyropylitic and sericitic. They are similar to the alterations present in the upper part of themineralizations in the porphyry systems of the Alpine Orogenic Belt. In the Eastern Pontides starting inEarly Jurassic, continuation of subductions resulted in closure of the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan ocean andin Early Eocene the Taurid platform collided with the Eurasian active continental margin. Data fromthe study area indicate the presence of alteration zones in the upper part of the buried porphyry systemand the possibility of mineralized parts in the deeper parts of the system.

This study comprises some geological and geochemical researches of Inanmış (Oltu-Erzurum) Cu field. MTA has been proceeding geological research around Oltu-Narman-Tortum (Erzurum) district which host the study area, since 2004, in the context of ""Eastern Anatolian Polymetal Exploration Project"". The study area, located on the southern magrin of the Eastern Pontides, is within the topographic map sheet on the H47 a2. In the study area, from oldest to youngest, pre-Cretaceous and Cretaceous aged basic volcanics, lower and upper Cretaceous aged limestones, Eocene aged clastic rocks, and acid-basic rocks intruding basic volcanics are observed. The youngest unit in the field is Quaternary aged alluvium. Igneous rocks observed in the field have undergone intense alteration and mineralization. High Cu content and small amount of Au values detected from soul and rock samples, pervasive hydrothermal alteration, porphyry-textured acid and intermediate dykes, network of quartz - of calcite vein-veinlets, brecciated structur and the presence of chalcopyrite and bornite ore minerals indicate that Inanmıs mineralization show many similarities to porphyry type Cu-Au mineralization. Bu çalışma; Oltu-Narman-Tortum (Erzurum) cıvarında MTA tarafından 2004 yılında ""Doğu Anadolu Polimetal Aramaları Projesi"" kapsamında etütlerine başlanan Erzurum-Oltu-İnanmışköyü Cu sahasının jeolojik ve jeokimyasal çalışmalarını kapsamaktadır. Çalışma bölgesi, Doğu Pontitlerin güney kenarında Tortum-H 47a2 paftasında yer almaktadır. Çalışma alanında yaşlıdan gence doğru, Kratese öncesi ve Kratese yaşlı bazik bileşimli volkanitler, Alt Kratese ve Üst Kratese yaşlı kireçtaşları, Eosen yaşlı kırıntılı kayaçlar ve bazik bileşimli kayaçları kesen asidik ve bazik kayaçlar gözlenir. Sahadaki en genç birimler ise Kuvaterner yaşlı alüvyonlardır. Sahada gözlenen magmatik kayaçlar alterasyon ve cevherleşmeden etkilenmişlerdir. Toprakta ve kayaçlarda saptanan yüksek Cu ile anomali düzeyindeki altın değerleri, çok yoğun olarak gözlenen hidrotermal alterasyon, porfirik dokulu asidik ve ortaç bileşimli dayklar, yer yer ağsal olarak gözlenen kuvars kalsit damar/damarcıkları, breşik yapılar ile kalkopirit ve bornit türü cevher minerallerinin varlığı, İnanmış sahanın porfiri tip Cu-Au cevherleşmelerine benzerlik gösterdiğinin önemli göstergeleridir.
