106. Low Calf Circumference Predicts Nutritional Risks in Hospitalized Patients Aged More Than 80 Years.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine whether low calf circumference (CC) could predict nutritional risk and the cutoff values of CC for predicting nutritional risk in hospitalized patients aged ≥ 80 years. A total of 1,234 consecutive patients aged ≥ 80 years were enrolled in this study. On admission, demographic data, CC, and laboratory parameters were obtained. Patients with Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002) total score ≥ 3 were considered as having nutritional risk. CC values were significantly lower in patients with nutritional risk compared to those in patients without nutritional risk [27.00 (24.50-31.00) vs. 31.00 (29.00-33.50], P < 0.001]. CC was negatively correlated with age and nutritional risk scores. Logistic regression analysis of nutritional risk revealed that body mass index, albumin level, hemoglobin level, cerebral infarction, neoplasms, and CC (OR , 0.897; 95% confidence interval, 0.856-0.941; P < 0.001) were independent impact factors of nutritional risk. Nutritional risk scores increased with a decrease in CC. In men, the best CC cutoff value for predicting nutritional risk according to the NRS-2002 was 29.75 cm. In women, the cutoff value was 28.25 cm. CC is a simple, noninvasive, and valid anthropometric measure to predict nutritional risk for hospitalized patients aged ≥ 80 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Summary: Background: The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system is the most widely used staging system for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the classifications of early (BCLC‐A) and intermediate (BCLC‐B) stage HCC remain controversial. Aim: To refine the staging of BCLC‐A and ‐B. Methods: A total of 986 patients with HCC undergoing liver resection from two institutions formed the training cohort, and 694 from another institution were the validation cohort. Time‐dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the performance of tumour size in predicting overall survival (OS), and determined the optimised cut‐off. Discriminatory performance was evaluated using Harrell's concordance index (C‐index). Results: Patients with multiple tumours exceeding Milan criteria but within up‐to‐seven criteria had similar OS and disease‐free survival (DFS) to those with multiple tumours meeting Milan criteria, and were assigned to the modified BCLC‐A stage. The area under the ROC curve of tumour size for predicting OS was 0.778, and the diameter of 7 cm was the optimal cut‐off to identify patients with single tumours who had higher OS than BCLC‐B stage patients. Due to the similar OS, patients with single HCCs >7 cm were assigned to the modified BCLC‐B stage. The C‐indexes of the modified BCLC classification for OS and DFS were higher compared to the original version. The findings were supported by the validation cohort. Conclusions: The modified staging of BCLC‐A and ‐B, based on single tumour >7 cm and multiple tumours beyond up‐to‐seven criteria, could be more accurate to predict the prognosis of HCC patients. Abstract

In this paper, the influences of the different forms of nucleon-nucleon (NN) cross sections on the rapidity distributions and the in-plane flows of nucleons in reactions 60Ca+60Ca and 60Ni+60Ni are studied by using IBUU04 transport model with the moment-dependent symmetry potential. The calculation results indicate that (1) the discrepancies of the rapidity distributions and in-plane flows corresponding to different forms of NN cross sections are large, (2) the sensitivity of the in-plane flow to the NN cross section still holds when the new form of moment-dependent symmetry energy is adopted, and (3) the influence of the N/P ratio of reaction systems on the transverse flow calculated with a certain NN cross section is more obvious when the incident energy is near the balance energy.

Abstract

In the present paper, the effective mass and energy of kaon in dense and hot nuclear matter is studied. Our special attention is paid to the comparison of various definitions of quasi-particle model of kaons used in transport theories. The effective mass of kaon defined in popular mean field theory increases with increasing of the density of nuclear matter, while the quantity used in covariant kaon dynamics decreases with the density increasing. The properties of mean field acting on kaon by hot and dense nuclear matter depends not only on the form of quasiparticle model of kaons, but on the motion of nucleons around it.

148. Mapping and identification of QTLs for seed fatty acids in soybean (Glycine maxL.)

Abstract

Soybean is one of the world's most important sources of vegetable oil. The oil content and fatty acid ratio have attracted significant attention due to their impact on the shelf-life of soybean oil products and the consumers' health. In this study, the high-density genetic map derived from Guizao 1 and Brazil 13 was utilised to analyse the quantitative trait loci of palmitic acid (PA), stearic acid (SA), oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA), linolenic acid (LNA) and oil content. A total of 54 stable QTLs were detected in genetic map linkage analysis, which shared six bin intervals. Among them, the bin interval on chromosome 13 (bin106-bin118 and bin123-bin125) was detected as stable QTLs in multiple environments, linked to OA, LA, and LNA. Eight differentially expressed genes (DEGs) within these QTLs interval were determined as candidate genes according to the joint investigation of parental resequencing, bioinformatics and RNA sequencing data. All these results will be conducive to breeding soybean with the ideal fatty acid ratio for food, and provide the genetic information basis for mining genes related to fatty acid and oil content traits in soybean.

150. Time and department distribution of hypoglycemia occurrences in hospitalized diabetic patients

Abstract

Hypoglycemia occurred on hospitalized patients would result in severe complications. So we monitored the blood glucose of hospitalized patients with diabetes in 14 clinical departments from January to December 2013. Totally 105728 cases of blood glucose were monitored and 1374 cases of hypoglycemia were detected. The incidence of hypoglycemia was 1.29%. Among which, 317 cases of severe hypoglycemia were detected and the incidence of severe hypoglycemia was 0.29%. The peak periods of hypoglycemia were 0:00∼2:00, 22:00∼24:00, 2:00∼4:00, 8:00∼10:00 and 10:00∼12:00.The symptomatic hypoglycemia accounted for 47.01%, The asymptomatic hypoglycemia accounted for 52.98%. The incidence of hypoglycemia was 1.49% in medical departments and 0.87% in surgical departments. It is suggested to be vigilant of high risk periods of hypoglycemia, detect and treat asymptomatic hypoglycemia timely and rationally administer antidiabetics to prevent hypoglycemia.
